It doesn't work in short sized loops if the killer positions themselves accordingly. Many times I have mind-tricked survivors into thinking I am running a certain way, change my position at the last second and they usually end up running into a wall or overshoot their DH where I am inside the pallet and they cannot throw it down.
Also, If the killer has bloodlust and is a ranged killer no amount of DH will help that survivor out.
Nah honestly tho dead hard into a wall sounds like a CLASSIC baby David move
Are you SURE you're not low MMR

You're interpreting that them not understand the concept of a grind when they're expressing displeasure at the fact that it exists at all.
Also, I told you how much I play directly in the post, hun.
I never said they didn't know what a grind is, my point was they didn't know why the grind might benefit BHVR by keeping players invested in the game. There is a reason LOADS of games these days are designed to be grindy, it isn't an accident.
You told me this in the post: "I went 20+hours a week to 10+ hours every couple of months until recently when I started to playing Mikaela and doing the halloween tome."
You told me how much you used to play until recently when Mikaela came out. So I don't know how often you have played since then, nor do I care really.

Yes I did, but it isn't like anyone who has DH slotted has the ability to use it for distance at ANY given loop.
I said the advantage comes from it being a perk, and being there at the right place and at the right time. Something that is not mentioned amongst you, because apparently variables only count when the killer has instead the advantage to use perks that they utilize where they get downs and kills they wouldn't have otherwise gotten.
The dodge is like what, 1-2 metres? So you can use it at any loop which has a straight edge of longer than that, right?
Which I think would make it work at pretty much any sized tile in the game

How does it not support my point when I am expressing that since the grind is bad so I don't really bother with it anymore? One can play this game and not grind in it. I just make do with what I have now since I can go months at a time not even touching this game. Like I said before, I'm not playing for the grind.
My point has been always will be that the grind is prohibitive to full enjoyment of the game and should be lessened or removed.
You shouldn't have to spend millions and millions bloodpoints and hundreds of hours of game time to get the basic tools to play the game.
You have this weird thing where you're not wanting people to make assumptions about whether or not you know or understand the grind, but you keep making the assumption that is what I am doing. Hunny, I've got not enough time or energy to assume anything about you, but you don't have to waste words explaining why the grind is still here.
Most people on this forum have a general idea of the why, how, and what in relation to the grind.
lol I don't know how often you play, all you told me was you got back into the game since Mikaela. My point was, after 3 years, you are still coming back to the game, it may be for whatever reason, it may not be for the grind, its for collectibles. Fine whatever.
"Most people on this forum have a general idea of the why, how..."
I disagree, cause I see threads like this all the time, and everyone always says the same things around "why is it here", or "why can't we remove it"

Just because you guys think DH isn't balanced doesn't mean it isn't. I play killer like you guys and I don't have issues with it. It can be annoying sometimes, but that's about it.
"I play Killer once a month for challenges and always ######### on the baby survivors, DH isn't a problem because only the baby David's run it"
@RainehDaze said:
I'm not sure why "knowing how to play around Dead Hard" is even relevant, here.
Since the problem is that: A) all the survivor perks that need playing around before they have been shown or definitively ruled out benefit everyone and have a distorting effect on the meta by their existence, and B) Dead Hard has elements that can't be played around because it can now be triggered only after you stop (and if you don't stop, you never attack, so you're screwed either way).
lol just bait it out bro

Ruin is the main hex most killers have to use right now
Trust me, if hexes didn't light until active, you would see a lot of Killers running Devour.
Anyway, anything that makes Ruin used less and other hexes more is good IMO. Variety is the spice, and all that.
Also I haven't ran Ruin in ages, always seems to go quick for me. Much prefer Blood Favour atm.

I don't need someone who can't deal with Dead Hard to show me how to play the game. I have managed to deal with it on my own, and thankfully I don't need to come onto the forums to complain about it.
You can say I am wrong until the cows come home. The reason you think you are right is because unlike others in this very thread, I form my own opinion and don't fall into the trap of using the same tired scenario to prove my point.
I have 6.1k hours in this game. What does your time spent in this game have to do with anything? Are you trying to prove a point? LOL
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LZYAM4OAPZT1/untitled-1.png
Funny how I have more hours than you, but you are the one taking offense because by your own "principles" anyone with less hours ought to refrain from calling you inexperienced. Kind of ironic when you think about it.
Keep reaching dahrling.
https://c.tenor.com/jvVVeLICx1EAAAAM/wendy-williams-smoke.gif
Earlier in this thread you claimed that the common argument against DH was "You cannot bait it out in a specific loop"
I'm just trying to imagine spending 6K hours on DBD, and still not knowing what DH for distance is
-
@throwaway79465468797 said:
Most people nowadays immediately check for Ruin anyway
Yeah but:
- DH could not trigger until you hook 3 people (unless the speed kicks in earlier?)
- Crowd Control until someone fast vaults
- Third Seal until you whack someone
- Blood Favor until you whack someone
Sure there's more, thats just of the top of my head, but Ruin is not the main hex that would benefit from this.
-
Wait are you saying the angles are survivor-sided or killer-sided, cause I don't know whether to be enraged by, or rabidly agree with this post.

Nah because this would allow perks like Devour Hope to be consistently great, rather than just rarely great, and we can't have that now.

That being said you really are flat out wrong, that's not an opinion it's a statement of fact. Also to my ever lasting shame I have over 5000 hours on this game, over 3000 of them on killer so do refrain from calling me inexperienced as it just makes you come across as a fool.
Dude we already spent 3 pages worth of posts trying to convince these 2 and they are back to square one. Give up.
-
What I found funny is how cluelessly they played the basement after smashing the gens out that quickly
Quite often I've found even games against very new Survivors can quickly become stressful, simply by the fact you can't be everywhere at once, and you're always gonna let some gens slip through, and sometimes the 3-gen fails early.
Had a few games against obviously new Survivors, felt bad and eased up a bit for a minute or two, then boom, 3 gens pop across the map and you're screwed.

You lasted longer than me lol

I'm just gonna say that even as a new killer to the game, when I didn't know much about dead hard, I was only surprised by it once or twice. Then as I ran into more survivors using dead hard I knew how to play around it. Thus the effectiveness of dead hard went way down. The issue at higher MMR is stacking time saves, preventing slugging, and even preventing hooks that all add up to losses for the killer during the match. They should definitely be toned down.
You mention time saves though, DH used correctly can literally double a chase and be a MASSIVE time waste for the Killer. Also on slugging, anti-slugging is fine IMO, as you can mitigate that by not getting too greedy and leaving downs. Usually I'm only forced to slug because the chase got out of hand, and then went on even longer, and I now have to pressure gens and don't even have time to hook. When you multiply this by 4 survivors, I definitely think it is problematic

I mean I have watched both sides tell a story when it comes to streamers. There are those who think it is fair and those who do not.
Bottom line is that most of the complaints I see on here are "You cannot bait it out in a specific loop". Ok? That IS how the perk is supposed to work. You aren't suppose to be able to counter every single scenario out there. What is funny is that the same one keeps being brought up when like I said previously, there is an array or perks and playstyles (something that doesn't require to be part of the load out) that is instant specific for them to work.
It's nothing to do with a specific loop or tile.
If a Survivor is close enough to a window or a pallet, where they can use Dead Hard to reach the pallet before you are in hitting range, there is no way to "bait" that, because you can't get close enough to hit them.
Used this way, a skilled looper can DH to a pallet, drop it, and then if positioned well (near another pallet/loop etc), they can loop you for another 30 seconds or so.
You can't bait DH used for distance, because it's already used out of hitting range.

Because it is easy to bait out. Many times when a survivor is about to use it make it very obvious because they are baiting your swing.
If you want to focus on the portion where survivors get a “free get out of jail card” as many of you call it. There is a plethora of perks and playstyles on the killer side which have a significant lack of balance that I don’t see changing anytime soon… and they won’t. Because perks are just that PERKS. An advantage in a given specific scenario which you wouldn’t have had if you didn’t bother to slot it.
You can't bait out Dead Hard used to gain distance to extend a loop.

Also, funny how MMR gets brought up the moment DH is talked about. Yet no one talks about it when the killer has high MMR but the tile set ups are still trash for survivors.
But since that isn’t the topic of discussion if you are falling for window fakes you are a bad killer and you probably shouldn’t be facing that survivor’s MMR.
No one even mentioned window fakes, go and re-read.

Also I've been playing this game since 2016. I haven't maxed out a single character in 5 years.
Alright but earlier your point was in WoW the grind is for essentially prestigious items but in DBD it was to be able to play at all, but if you don't play for perks, and don't have all the perks unlocked, this doesn't exactly support your point, because not having all the perks has not stopped you from sticking around on the game for 3+ years.
I aint "going off", it's just people keep assuming I am unaware of the grind, or even want it, when I'm just trying to explain the fact why the grind might still be here.

You made your point, you don't approve of us enjoying silly matches. Thanks again.
Who said I didn't approve of silly matches. In fact I haven't played a serious game of DBD in weeks.
Just pointing out it gets really old after the first minute of chasing someone and not scoring a hit. Basement Bubba is where the real thrills lie.
But it's cool, I can stop bumping this thread if you like and we can let it die in peace.
-
IMO the main strength of Kindred is telling you when everyone else is on a gen or going for the unhook, so would agree with the main point of having Kindred base kit, minus the killer aura.
"I think it should work on stealth killer's too as long as they can be seen by a other survivor."
That just sounds like it'd end up being bugged, but makes sense if they could get it to work.

Oh you're right, I'm not saying they have the skill to deal with me in hardcore mode, I'm saying that if they taunt me, I kill them as if they do. I slugged 3 of them right after posting this thread, they just kept piling on despite my Starstruck. It happened so fast I went looking for the last survivor, but they were all in my pile by the hook. One of the shortest trials I've ever played, they were stupid, helpless babies.
They would have all escaped, but they decided baby nurse killing them all really fast would be more fun.
Yep I had a game like that last night as well. Literally only just got the Trickster, and must have got value out of Starstruck about 5x across 3 games, one of which resulted in a double slug.
It just gets to a point where you get the toxic ones who are also good at the game, that's when it stops being fun.
Usually the ones who go down like that end up DC'ing or are suspiciously absent from the post game lobby.

I grind, my reward for winning is being at an MMR where everyone brings the meta, 3 to 4 second chance perks each, at least one object calling out my every move, covers the map in boon totems, heals in 4-8 seconds, BNP toolboxes...
If fun is had, I don't care who wins at all. It's a ten minute game.
Well if chasing someone faster than you, and not scoring a hit all game, is fun, then go for it, you'll have a blast

I play like 3-4 killers and 2 survivors, none of which have all the perks because i can't be bothered to constantly grind.
I haven't played this game compulsively since late 2018. I went 20+hours a week to 10+ hours every couple of months until recently when I started to playing Mikaela and doing the halloween tome.
People say the grind is bad because it is. If you're new to the game then, sure, you might enjoy it, but I'm far from new and would just like to have perks without having to invest a ton of time. I have over 800hrs in this game and still don't have all the perks because newsflash, bloodwebs make you waste bloodpoints on map offerings, reagents, and other garbage to just get to the perks.
Then you have to buy the same perk three times which is both arbitrary and annoying as there is no real reason to have perk tiers. Perks shouldn't have a rarity tier, they're a basic component of the game that is actually crucial to have. Having the entity eating your bloodwebs is interesting at first, becomes genuinely bothersome when you're just wanting to get your perks rather than having them eat and RNG'd to god knows how many trips through bloodwebs.
lmao why are people explaining this to me, I am well aware the game is grindy
you are proving my point, despite hating the grind, you are still playing the game. You just said yourself there are still perks you want to unlock, hence, the point I made earlier about the grind itself providing a goal. You are still here after 3 years.
If you unlocked everything in year 1, you might have got bored of the game faster when you realised most of the perks and characters are not viable anyway.
But no, after 3 years you still haven't even maxed out a single character.

Probably why they rage and cry all the time.
To be honest I kind of like it. I go easy on less-experienced players, but if a survivor is good enough to put effort into taunting, I assume they can deal with camping and tunneling. My favorite part of this game, killing people who wanted to make me mad.
My concern here is the levels survivors will go to make a player give up this game. New players shouldn't have to deal with that. Four people in afterchat berating a new player, maybe a kid.
I like the aggression, I think hating the people I'm killing makes it better. I like it when survivors are so dedicated to being ######### that they'll lose a game over it. Bubba will oblige.
That is the thing though, they don't have to necessarily be good to taunt. Slap on a Haddonfield or the Game offering, find the nearest safe pallet, drop it, and away you go, shake that booty. Doesn't take much skill to just run to the next loop and drop more tea bags.
Or just play in SWF, use a bit of communication and common sense, and you can escape most games and teabag at the gate.
If you got a 15 kill streak against me and my team on Halo, teabagging all the while, then you have my respect, and you earned that teabag.

This thread is about Dead Hard. Dead Hard is most problematic mid-chase, when used to extend a chase once you already got hit once, and link together loops. If you are getting injured before the 10 seconds is up, then you are bad at looping anyway. Fearmonger does nothing for Dead Hard.

Almost like we play this game because it's the only one of the genre people actually play, not because of the tedious grind.
As said earlier, I genuinely think its a bit of both
Imagine the grind wasn't there, we'd all have any perk we wanted. I think you'd get burnt out trying different builds in a week or 2, after realizing 80% of the perks are useless anyway. Genuinely feel the grind adds a purpose to the game, and to an extent means we see more variety as well, people have to choose what Killer/perk they want to grind for early on, and it leads to people having different things unlocked, rather than everything. But could also argue having everything unlocked easier would lead to more freedom to try different things. Difficult to say I guess.
But that being said, I still wish the grind wasn't there myself.

The grind in WoW rewards you with new and exciting skills, armor, weapons, achievements, and titles.
DBD's grind is awards you...the basic tools required to play the game. Full stop.
This is a spot where I will absolutely say the devs are having a jolly old laugh at player expense as they talk about wanting this game to be fun at all levels, but this grind isn't fun at any level of play when you have this many characters and perks to get. It sucks trying to learn new killers because you have to commit to a hellish RNG laden grind to get perks to test out builds every. single. time. Playing a new survivor is easier, but you can't just swap to a different survivor and run your favorite build. You have to grind for it which is insane as they're literally the exact same aside from their teachables. If you don't play the game a ton you're not going to have the iri shards to bypass leveling every killer and survivor to 40 to get their teachables added to the pool. The basic tools of the game shouldn't require a constant repeat of this grind and then when you add in prestige things get even worse because they make you burn everything you've been grinding for just to get a single piece of a blood cosmetic and marginally higher chance of rare items in the web? Year one, that was fine, Year five though? That's terrible.
WoW isn't perfect, but it does half way respect your time investment. You don't grind anywhere as hard or as long to get things in that game and it is a giant perpetual world where you literally have to walk to places.
Yeah so if BHVR have already given the message they want people to have fun at all levels, then they would have removed the grind years ago.
Yet it's still there.
and people still acting like it is bad for the game, yet they can't stop themselves playing it.
Almost as if... you are the one the grind is designed to get to play the game compulsively.

From all the players I've seen quit because of it being too grindy, it doesn't seem very good no.
I mean we're literally back to the point from earlier, where I said that for everyone you know who did leave, just assume many didn't. Some people will refuse to play grindy games, many others won't, ourselves included I guess?
BHVR will obviously be monitoring the player retention of their own game. They may be saving the "double bloodpoints" card for when enough people are leaving for it to be a major problem for their player numbers. It's a little convenient how they deploy the "double bloodpoints" weekend when the VHS beta comes out.
For now, we can assume that the grind is not scaring that many people off, because BHVR could fix it in an instant
(Heck, if the code was all server side for determining bloodpoints, they could do this without a game patch required)
