Yeah I mean that is why im a little annoyed about how balancing in this game is right now, if it was simply that they had to release patches into the live server without the PTB then I understand a bit more. But they HAVE the PTB so I dont know why they can't try some big LF buffs or Freddy buffs or Wraith buffs, because then at least if it did prove to be too powerful they can just adjust it without fear of it being in the live servers.

@IronWolf115 I always wonder why they can't just try these changes on the PTB, however I'm just happy that there's one person who is thinking like me. Developers, go for it :)

Nothing to lose, it's a test site for a reason. It literally exists to test changes and prevent catastrophic imbalances/bugs reaching the live build.

Exactly, I honestly would just go crazy on the PTB and try all different things and then take it from there

Instead of losing control of movement, how about just losing control of the camera? Either it's stuck looking forward, or it's stuck looking back; whichever is more balanced.

I actually like the idea of the camera being forced back for a few seconds, that would practically make the survivors blindly try to find a pallet

  • I like the idea of a resident evil chapter, I also think silent hill would fit really well into this kind of game

  • I remember when everyone said Leatherface was overpowered.
    Strange times we live in.

  • @Someissues said:
award winning chilli is garbage, Leatherface 100% needs ultra rare addons, it's weird he doesn't have it, the devs originally thought he would be a overpowered killer but he's clearly not

making his chainsaw sprint longer sounds nice btw

Thanks for the feedback! And I think his chilli add-ons would be much better if they buff his acceleration. But there are many add-ons which are useless for LF ( such as the ones that make his chainsaw quieter )

  • @SaltyKiller said:
He doesn't have many good add-ons now does he?

The Chili doesn't do anything noticeable. The ones that effect repair and heal speed are only temporary because reasons. Ones that quiet his saw are completely pointless as they are with Billy.

I think he needs completely different add-ons. Keep the ones that effect his charge but change everything else.

An Ultra Rare that permanently cripples them and makes it so they can't heal to full would be pretty sweet.

Yeah I mean his chilli add-ons would be much better if they buff his acceleration, but there are add-ons such as the ones that make his chainsaw quieter. What use is that add-on on LF? LF add-ons need to be reworked, as well as him getting direct buffs to make him better.

So, I honestly didn't wanna make a post like this but after several games of similar situations, I just wanted to share.

I'm playing as Leatherface, I'm playing very very poorly. I allowed a survivor to run me around the map for the whole game, mostly due to my own stubbornness and partly because I should have hit her several times and missed due to my own bad plays.

I end up catching her as the exit doors light up, I decided that since I played poorly and chased this person I was gonna make sure I get the kill. Her survivor buddies decide that's not gonna happen and try everything to save her, I ended up chainsawing one as they took her off the hook, so I got 2 for the price of one. Then as the first person died I had a second on the hook, yes I camped again and yes her survivor friend ran in and I chainsawed her and bam, three kills out of one of the worst games I've ever played.

However, at the end of the game, they tell me I'm ######### and that I need to learn to play and am a camper. Now I'll acknowledge I camped but only because the exit gates where open.

I guess the whole point to this is, why do survivors tell killers who kill them that they are #########? I mean they had ample time to leave and I'd have only had 1 kill but they made the choice to stay and get killed for it. Does their bad judgment make me the bad guy here?

Part of it as well maybe that you were using Leatherface. Lots of survivors associate LF with camping so they were prob salty that it happened to them. You did absolutely the right ( and only possible ) thing though, it was their fault that they screwed up.

  • @Wolf74 said:
    1. Please give that perk an indicator if you are far enough to trigger it (just like Devour Hope).
    2. Remove the exposed indicator, so that the attack comes by surprise.

Love this idea, I also kind of thought that maybe when the person is affected by MYC, a little indicator comes up when you are chasing them so that you know who its is, but this may be a little too powerful.

  • Ah ok I actually didn't know that ( I hate playing leatherface lol) well, even then, it would maybe be pretty crazy, and annoying, but I'm no professional on the character.

I mean to be honest if they did decide to go for an infinite sprint, I wouldn't even mind too much if they put a downside on it such as his acceleration cap is slower.

  • Leatherface gets masks of all the killers curently in the game lol

  • @Nick said:
They said on the dev stream that it actually doesnt do anything

It does do something, it is just an extremely minor difference. The way his acceleration works is that LF builds up speed to a certain cap point, chilli makes him reach that cap point faster but doesn't actually make him go any faster. In order for chilli add-ons to be more viable, his acceleration needs a big buff to actually make him go faster.

  • Having no slow-down while revving is another change we discussed and I'd love to test. Both of these should be tested on the PBE, because Leatherface needs love.

Yeah I mean that is why im a little annoyed about how balancing in this game is right now, if it was simply that they had to release patches into the live server without the PTB then I understand a bit more. his chilli and award winning chilli aren't very influential in reaching his top speed. I think theres a video on youtube somewhere where it shows the affects of the chilli compared side by side with no chilli addons. There is almost no difference at all

Yeah I mean this ultra-rare idea really is really for a buffed version of LF where his acceleration does a lot more for him, thus so would his chilli

  • @MiisChEVouS said:
Instead of the chilli add ons having acceleration why dont you have it so leatherface can swing more times? once for the uncommon add on and twice for the very rare it would make these add ons viable for use because at the moment not many people bother using them

Hey there! The reason people don't use these add-ons is because Leatherface right now is VERY underpowered, and that includes his acceleration. He doesn't actually move much faster through acceleration so most people don't see any use in his chilli add-ons. If they buff acceleration to where he actually moves a lot faster you would see these add-ons used much more I believe.

Biggest buff they can give Leatherface for me? Make it so that if he breaks a pallet with his chainsaw and he still has swings left, he keeps going. That would give him a unique edge over Hillbilly in the chase itself. Couple that with the buffs @IronWolf115 suggested, and I think Leatherface could be really strong.

I agree. Awesome, I think with how many posts I have seen, we might actually make some progress in getting LF buffs!

  • @SaltyKiller said:
Pro tip: include a TLDR. No one has time for that #########.

Making him move faster when swinging the saw wouldn't do much. It would help but the difference wouldn't be too noticeable.

The BIG QOL change he needs is that he shouldn't be slowed down while revving the saw. That's the big kick to the balls for him. Because of that slowdown he can't bait them to throw down a pallet like Hillbilly. Not to mention that it's harder to catch up to them. If they use Sprint Burst or Lithe or even Dead Hard to get some distance he's screwed unlike Billy. Billy can catch right back up to them so long as they didn't make it to pallet land or window city.

A lot of people have different ideas on how to buff him. Some ideas are:

Making him way better at breaking pallets (assuming the first QOL change goes through). This can be achieved by having him recover much faster than Billy when breaking pallets AND when he swing his saw and they throw down a pallet he will either (A) always break it or (B) is not slowed down while breaking it so he could Juggernaut right through the pallet drop.

One of my ideas is that you lower his terror radius to about 24 like Hag is currently. This way you make more of a stealthy Billy when you put Monitor and Abuse on him. And it would be nice to have at least 3 Killers who would really benefit from Monitor and Abuse.

    Now, my TLDR:

Give him normal movement speed when revving the saw like Billy.

And either make him better at breaking pallets or give him a lower terror radius.

I also suggested making him able to break pallets more easily, but people thought that it was OP which I disagree with

  • I agree with this, the only thing I would add is that he moves at normal speed whilst revving the saw, so that he doesn't lose any distance on a survivor, and that his tantrum length is shortened because that is a huge hinderence to him.

  • LF is in need of some big buffs. Personally I dont think that an increased movement speed overall is the way to go BUT I do feel that he need big changes to the chainsaw. Personally this is what I would like

1.Normal movement speed whilst revving the chainsaw
2.Acceleration buffed to make him go MUCH faster when in the saw sprint

Beyond that obviously more and better add-ons would be good like an ultra-rare and maybe some changes to his tantrum effect

LF should dominate at close range but right now ( hook camping aside ) Billy is actually better than him at even that. With LF it should be a case of " Ok I had to chase you down but now that im near you, you are screwed". But it just simply isn't like that right now

I am in the ball park that if Freddy and Wraith get buffs that actually help them out, LF will be the worst killer in the game so I REALLY want them to look into him. Basically Billy should be better than LF in mobility and generator pressure, but LF should be superior in close range punishing.

  • LF defenitely needs some major buffs. I personally don't think his overall movement speed should be increased BUT I think he needs to be able to do WAY more at close range than billy. LF is meant to be that close range dominator like "Ok I had to chase you for a bit but now that im near you, you are screwed". But right now Billy ( aside from hook camping ) does even that better than LF because he is just far more smooth and controllable. Personally the changes I would fight for are

    1. He keeps his base movement speed whilst revving the chainsaw
    2. His acceleration makes him go MUCH faster than it does right now ( after all he would only achieve his highest speed for a couple of seconds without add-ons )

Beyond that obviously more and better add-ons, like some ultra-rares would help and maybe some adjustments to his tantrum effect.

I am honestly in the ball park that if Freddy and Wraith get some buffs that actually help them out, LF will be the worst killer in the game so I REALLY want him to get looked into. Basically Billy should have far more mobility and pressure than LF, but LF should be a MUCH better closer range punisher than Billy.

  • Uh there are a lot of things to counter healing. Killers don't lose you most games, once you're found you're dead for the most part unless the killer is blind. I'm not sure you're rank 1 anything thinking that way. Especially since you think Nurse's calling is the only way to counter healing, have you played the game recently?

All the ways to counter healing and for tracking hurt players:
Perks: Thanatophobia, Nurse's Calling, Dying Light, Barbecue & Chilli, Overwhelming Presence (For Medkits), Coulrophobia, Bloodhound, Deerstalker, Franklin's Demise (For Medkits), Knock Out, Predator, Sloppy Butcher
Add-ons: Rusted Jaws, Coarse Stone, Fine Stone, Utility Blades, Begrimed Chains, Begrimed Head, Rusted Chains, Rusty Attachments, Rusty Head, Sulphuric Acid Vial

All the ways the game hands you ways to find survivors:
Perks: Barbecue & Chilli, Nurse's Calling, Bitter Murmur, Spies from the Shadows, Whispers, Territorial Imperative, Blood Warden,
Add-ons: Pussy Willow Catkins, Willow Wreath, "Restraint" - Class II, "Restraint" - Class III, "Restraint" - Carter's Notes, Class Photo, Black Box, Reflective Fragment, Glass Fragment, Mirror Shard, Vanity Mirror, Scratched Mirror, Amanda's Secret, Tattoo's Middle Finger, "All Seeing" - Mud, "All Seeing" - Spirit, "All Seeing" - Blood, "All Seeing" - White
    Other: Doctor

Then don't forget the instant down things:
Perks: Hex: No One Escapes Death, Hex: Devour Hope, Make your Choice
Add-ons: Diamond Stone, Redhead's Pinky Finger, Iridescent Head
    Other: Chainsaws, Myers

Thanatophobia is trash and ironically gets easily countered by self care, Nurses calling is by far the best and one of the only ways to track healing survivors, Dying Light is complete garbage which pretty much requires you to bring a mori, BBQ and chilli is easy to counter ( just walk one direction for a few seconds then go in another ), Overwhelming presence is just awful and not worth using a perk slot, Coulrophobia is only useful in tandem with Nurses calling ( which is half your perk slots right there ), Bloodhound is fine it does what it is meant to do not much to say there, Deerstalker is exclusively for downed survivors and has no impact on self care at all, Franklins Demise is not a very good perk because if you are hit by it you can just retrieve the item later, Knock out is the exact same as Deerstalker it has no impact on self care, Predator is one of the worst perks in the game right now and is actually a hinderence to killer players, Sloppy butcher is mainy useable in tandem with Bloodhound ( which in my opinion is not worth 2 perk slots ).

All of the add-ons that you mention are completely ability reliant, which means you would have to hit them with either the chainsaw, the hatchets or the bear trap etc. ( which chainsaw can be hard to hit on good survivors, hatchets are very inconsistent at the moment and bear traps are easily found by good survivors ).

Bitter Murmur is a terrible end game perk that, once again, has no impact on self care, Spies from the shadows is just awful because survivors can just crouch and birds wont activate, Whispers is an alright perk but it also is not a definitive location of a survivor, it just gives you a general vicinity on them, Territorial imperative is basement only so has no impact on self care and blood warden is an endgame perk that relies on you hooking a survivor AFTER the gates have been opened and has no impact on self care.

And finally NOED and Devour hope are hex perks that can be destroyed and once again have no impact on self care, and Make your choice gives the survivor the notification that they are exposed so they know to just avoid the killer and has no effect on self care

The point I am trying to make here is that very few of the things you mentioned actually affect self care directly. I personally believe self care should be removed entirely which would then promote far more team play by surviovors and add more risk to getting hit ( which right now there is very little risk )

  • Yup completely agree!

The Doctor has the same exact counterplay as the Clown. The Clown gasses a loop? Move to the next one. The Doctor shocks you? Calmly walk to the next nearest loop.

I mean you don't even need to do that for Clown. If you just camp the pallet as soon as you get to it and drop it, the fact he now has to go around or break the pallet offsets whatever the gas might do, unless he's stacking all duration addons.

Nevertheless the same is true of the Doctor, just move to the next loop. He has to slow down to switch stances and to shock. Pallets and structures are close enough such that you can safely just move to the next one.

Then all the Doctor accomplished was wasting his own time.

I feel doctor is in a somewhat similar position to Leatherface, he is slowed by certain actions that he shouldn't be slowed by.

  • @SaltyKiller said:
I'm for regular movement while revving which will let him mind game at pallet loop spots.

I was thinking of something that would help him and make him stand out more from Billy:

When you unleash the Saw, they down a pallet right as you're under it, he always destroys it and keeps his momentum. Maybe he's slowed down a tiny bit out of fairness but it would really differentiate him from Billy. And Survivor's can't complain because it'll be like facing Huntress at a pallet; just throw it down and move on if you don't want to get hit.

Nice man thanks for the feedback and I completely agree with those ideas!

  • @Mashtyx1 said:
After following the Clown on the dev streams and through people on youtube, I can't help but notice that his power is a throwable and he has normal movement speed. Yet the Huntress has a throwable and was balanced to have a hum that is further than her terror radius and is directional as well as having a reduced movement speed. Yes, I can see the argument that it's because her hatches do damage but with broken hitboxes and the fact the Clown can slow people now for 2 whole seconds to get a hit, has a instant down add-on just like the Huntress, and has a AOE power. I'd for one like to see her at least get normal movement speed and fixed hitboxes if anything.

Completely agree. The hitboxes are really bad on her hatchets. Personally I don't know if making her move faster is the way to go, but I definately think her humming should NOT be directional, I think it should be like freddy where it is just all over the place.

  • @Leatherbilly said:
We'll lose Tinkerer soon, really hope we get something soon. Leatherface will have endured 4 indirect nerfs now since release.

    1. Emblem system punishes defensive play, LF's sole reason to exist
    2. Emblem system gives one hit worth of Malicious to chainsaw instant downs
    3. Emblem system gives one hit worth of Chaser to chainsaw instant downs
    4. Tinkerer will no longer help him in any capacity post-rework

I agree. I really want them to make LF into a really good close range punisher, that way there would be things that LF would be better at ( such as looping and downing at close range ) and there would be things billy is better at ( such as generator pressure ).

As a side note Billy would obviously still be great at downing people at close range, it is just that LF would be better around loops.

  • @M2Fream said:
Im all for a good killer buff, but I think both of these are too powerful

Sorry but I have to disagree, I think something along these lines would be very beneficial to LF but there would still be reasons to pick billy, huntress, nurse etc. over him. The movement speed whilst revving the chainsaw would only come in to effect when he has closed the distance on a survivor, which all he can do is run at them unlike Billy who has an extremely fast chainsaw sprint to close the distance. And the acceleration buff would only give him a large amount of speed for about 2 seconds without the chilli add-ons so he would still be able to be looped but it would be harder ( which is what he needs )

    Thanks for the feedback though!

  • @Leatherbilly said:
The first one would allow for mind games, both to fake rev and to actually rev and force a drop.

Considering he'd still get a speed boost when swinging, he would effectively surpass Hillbilly in close range lethality, and would allow him to mind game slightly better at loops.

Yes I feel that most killers dont get slowed too much for using their ability so for me it makes sense for leatherface not to either. I think that as I say his acceleration is a good idea it's just that the way it has been implemented is not good. I feel that LF should move fasted than Billy at max acceleration ( or at least as fast ) this also would be a huge buff to his chilli add-ons making them far more effective because he would reach that max speed quicker.

  • @ASpazNamedSteve said:
He definitely needs more to do around loops, he's pathetic around them as he currently is. So I definitely support 1. 2 is interesting but could really easily be too good, so I'm hesitant to support that one.

The only thing this fat, screaming oaf has over Hillbilly is the ability to down multiple people in one charge... but the ONLY time this ever happens is directly at hooks, hence all the camping Leatherfaces. He's just in a sad state, especially since he's been plagued with a brutal bug since his launch.

Maybe something could be done with his tantrum, one of his only unique qualities? Idk. He basically just needs more uses of his power other than hugging someone's back away from any vaults/pallets for enough time to down them.

Yes No. 1 is the buff im really aiming for, and 2 is more of an idea to play around with. LF is just far to weak on offence, hes not too bad at defence ( camping the basement lol ) but yeah I just don't see what his place is in the game right now but if they did some major buffs, he could be a VERY fierce close range killer with great payoff for chasing down survivors.

Tho, something along the lines of a faster speed while revving would be nice.

I understand what you mean, at the same time I feel that the nurse kind of already does this as she can just blink straight through a pallet so it is already kind of tried and tested. However if it does seem to be an issue then maybe he breaks through it and gets a small speed reduction for a second or two. BTW just so I am clear I still believe LF should still be stunned if the pallet is dropped correctly on him, forcing him out of his sprint.

    Thanks for the feedback though!

Nurse is arguably broken in my opinion.
She leaves very few room for survivor's skill (while other killers let WAY too much room for it.)

About the last part, it would make most experienced killers to just still stun, and he would destroy non experienced ones, which is not always that great of a solution.

What I'd like on him is an alternative power, such as : if you press M2 during his chainsaw rush, you suddendly dash forward over 10 meters, downing any survivor you hit, no AoE tho.
That would give him a scare factor as well as some mindgames and funny plays in corridors.

Hmm you see I think nurse is in a great position personally ( especially considering the current balance state of the game ) because she is very difficult to learn but with an extreme payoff for doing so.

About the stun I am a little confused about what you mean, I think you mean that it would take experienced survivors to stun him which, to me, would be a good thing because he would still have that heavy counter play by good survivors. Perhaps an option with that then would be if you successfully stun him mid chainsaw sprint, he is stunned for longer?

And about a new sub ability for him, I like that idea. I think it would have to be created with some love and care for it to be good but yeah I like it. I mainly dont want them to abandon his current concept though, I like the idea of a viciously powerful up close killer which LF could be, it's just that they didnt design him anywhere near well enough to fulfill that role

Its good to have these differences of opinion though, it hopefully will help to get LF in a great position.

Well, this is not a Nurse thread, but I'll give my quick opinion about her :
Imo, Nurse is indeed pretty hard to master. But she clearly shouldn't be AS REWARDING as she is now. A character being hard to play should allow more possibilities, not more strength. And when it comes to nurse, playing her better just make her way more destructive, rather than more versatile or anything, so it's not very interesting at least to me.

I just meant that only new survivors will have trouble about stunning him mid chainsaw rush, which will allow him to easily destroy new players and still have average to hard times against great players, tho, overall, I still consider that change to be too strong.

Well, ultimately I make this just to try and give the devs some ideas and community feedback from those ideas, and then let them decide how to handle it. Its just right now, Leatherface is undeniably a VERY weak killer for what he is meant to do and it feels right now that there is no reason whatsoever to play him over Billy. Either way we will just have to see what the future holds for him. I'm hoping they will look deeply into him after they address Freddy and Wraith

You're obviously right to voice your opinion.
Don't hesitate, I wouldn't mind seeing that guy getting some buffs tbh, since, as you stated, he's very weka and truly needs some love, as well as some more gimmicks to play with, which would give him more possibilities.

Yeah thats exactly it. But I really appreciate constructive criticisms like yours. That really is how we achieve proper balance!

The 2nd buff would definitely be too strong, as the survivor is already quite stuck in animation while dropping the pallet.

P.S. I definately think at the least he should move at full speed when revving his saw, after all it is kind of his gimmick in the movie

Him moving at normal speed while revving the chainsaw, or at least at 100% speed, would be super nice to have tbh. It would give him more mindgames at pallets where he could rev the chainsaw to make the survivor not to want to drop the pallet, and then commit in with the rush to try to get the one shot.

It would be similar to Billy in that matter, doing this kind of stuff :

Yes that would be real nice, and I hadnt actually though of it like that with mindgames so you make a very good point. I hope the devs come here to see some of the feedback from you guys!

It could be actually even deadlier on LF, since he could simply commit under the pallet after doing this and start to swing to eventually catch up on big loops, making him an actual threat in this kind of situation since you wouldn't only risk a M1 like you would with Billy.

It would give him a REAL possibility and some interesting mecanics to match up with Billy.

Yes, exactly. My ultimate aim with Leatherface is not about making him the new nurse where he is a huge counter to a lot of things, my aim really is to make it so that there are areas where Hillbilly is better than LF, and areas where LF is better than Billy. Whereas right now, it feels like that balance really isnt there. I know the devs said that they are focused on buffing Freddy and Wraith right now which is great, I just hope after that they may give Leatherface some love as well.

Ye, at the moment he only shines against ######### rescuers that have hard time to estimate when it's safe to rescue and when it's not. It's also obviously up to Leatherface to create these kind of situations, but still, it's usually very situational and rareful.

He definitely needs a few more tricks in the book in order for me to play it at least.

Yep, exactly. I hve to admit im losing some hope for the devs to see this because it seems they havent replied to anyone in the forums in a while. But still this discussion will be here at least and maybe they will come across it.

  • Also if I am being a bit more harsh, it is kind of dumb that you essentially counter LF chainsaw by looping a tree.

Just give him pretty women cosmetic. Everyone would be awe-struck just gazing at her beautiful RADIANCE

Lol, I think all that cosmetic would do right now is make him feel more violated when he gets pallet looped and then tea-bagged. I would love that cosmetic though I have to say

I agree Leatherface should be buffed a bit and I think your second point is a good idea. Leatherface should be one of the best killer close range, but he isn't. He is too slow and it's too easy to loop him right now. Some of his add-ons are really aweful too, wich makes it harder to get good add-ons from the bloodweb.

Thats exactly it, I feel Billy should have better long range capabilities, but Leatherface should be far more deadly up close. Especially because he has no tools to close the distance, you just have to kind of run at survivors.

  • Hey, thanks for your positive feedback! Another idea that I actually thought of yesterday is perhaps make it so that when Leatherface breaks a pallet with his chainsaw, instead of stopping his sprint, he actually carries on his sprint through the pallet. What do you guys think?
