  • Harming hands sounds pretty cool, I'd like to see that added, and hasten healing is an interesting concept, plus they are atagnistic to each othr so would be interesting to see them in the same chapter.

using exhaustion for faster abilities particularly could be an interesting use for exhaustion perks (no way should it be applied to gen repair tho) and have a set of perks for it. Although they did muck up the explanation of the exhaustion stae on the survey.

So after much pestering from my friends I finally caved and got dbd. I decided to try out the killer side of things to see which one I feel comfortable playing and I really think the doctor is quite fun. Any tips on how to play him effectively?

There are a couple good builds with him.

My personal favourite is distressing, coulraphobia, sloppy butcher and unnerving presence. It fits his basekit very well and on smaller maps like midwich and meat plant it can really hinder the survivors and give you breating space. Regardless of what build you use I would run sloppy butcher on him, doctor gets a lot of value out of it since you can disrupt heals verys easily with static blast

Messing around with his terror radius is pretty fun. If you use dark devotion you can send the obsession off to seek a heal then do a static blast to reveal them and anyone trying to help them.

  • Maybe get some custom lobbies together.

Public playlists are full of sweaty salty players but a custom is nice and chill, no bp or ranks to worry about so people just kick back and chill. Test new builds, muck around with mechanics.

  • It's hit and miss. I've had auto didact heals with 3 skill checks and some with only 1.

yes i have. some wesker player used to use it in gideon's map. I have escaped vast majority of matches that I have seen perk get used.

When I run it on midwich or meat plant, so survs are most of the time in my TR, almost no healing gets done.

yeah because there is little reason to heal..

It would be broken and almost impossible to play against. If you're that dismissive of it you clearly didn't give it much thought.

right.... doctor overpowered. not a skill issue.

Then clearly it was a pretty weak wesker, besides that's not a great example, it's the haemorrhage that makes it nasty us wesker doesn't muck with skill checks likr doctor. Having all survs on the map perma injured as soon as they're hit is incredibly strong so idk why you're saying there is "little reason to heal" killer stumbling across an injured surv is generally a pretty easy down. Especially with a killer who has pretty solid antiloop like doctor.

you mean make coulraphobia a usable meta perk on doc. wow a perk that is blocking healing. so overpowered. shrug.

Coulraphobia is already a usable meta perk for doctor lol. Genuine question, have you ever come up against coulraphobia in a survivor game? Both slowing healing by a lot AND skillchecks that are way too fast to hit. combined with how madness disrupts skill checks and throwing in sloppy butcher for good measure would make it literally impossible to heal outside of stuff like syringes and inner healing, which is negligible because survs can't see killer before match so would not be able to stack those. Applying that across the entire map for the whole game is absolute madness.

I run coulraphobia and sloppy on my doctor anti skillcheck build, along with distressing. When I run it on midwich or meat plant, so survs are most of the time in my TR, almost no healing gets done.

It would be broken and almost impossible to play against. If you're that dismissive of it you clearly didn't give it much thought.

  • Absolutely not. Aside from anything else applying coulraphobia across the entire map all the time would be absolutely broken.

  • Yh game balance feels ######### right now.

High mmr survs are so efficient, killers have no breathing space and often have to resort to camping and tunneling to secure extra hook states and kills.

Low mmr killers tend to steamroll so hard, I can count on 2 hands the number of good games I've played in the last month. And by good game i mean reasonably close where you couldn't really call who was gonna win in the first 3 minutes.

  • I play him occasionally. But there are so many killers in the game now. There are a lot of killers I simply don't see anymore because people don't main them. And people are less likely to main a newer killer. Like over 50% of my killer games I play demo, the rest is usually to do daily rituals or challenges. The only other killers I play off the cuff when I want a break from demo are clown, knight or deathslinger.

    Mind to see this screenshot?

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/RBVKV22F1GVI/189f62c6c7c61-screenshoturl.jpg

I'm fairly new to the game (I've been playing for three months now) and as some of my friends said I can adapt and learn quickly... I don't think the MMR takes that into consideration but that is normal you know it's just an algorithm just 0's and 1's.

Now I don't know how the MMR works (if someone could explain what does it take into consideration I'll appreciate it) but If I learned something is that most of the time prestige means much more than rank, with that said ######### IS THE GAME DOING PAIRING ME WITH PRESTIGE 79???!!!!!

And look prestige not always means skill but as you can see I got clapped, I got folded like laundry folded like I was an omelette.

Of course they T-bagged and one of them trash to talked through a ps chat (I didn't screenshot that because I deleted the conversation) Is just an anecdote I wanted share.

New killer syndrome. The first killer games wiil be mentally easy and your mmr will skyrocket, lot of newish killers will suddenly hit a pretty brutal mmr ceiling. I had exactly the same thing when I started playing killer. Early games were easy but 2/3 months in I started getting mad skilled bully squads absolutely wrecking me until I learned to counterplay them.

Plus tbf you did pretty good imo, sure it was only 1 kill, but that surv had reasonable bp so you clearly didn't just facecamp or tunnel for an early kill. Your bp total is also quite high so looks like they game took a while and you gave them a run for their money. How many hooks did you get total?

  • @Seraphor said:

Yes, 'you can't force people to play the game' is true.

The problem is that DBD players are fickle and will choose to 'not play the game' for some truly pathetic reasons.

    Tru dat.

Reminds me of my funniest DCs. I'd seen 3 torches in lobby so I switched to lightborn. Got my first down, and sure enough as I'm picking up, a nea emerges from the shadows for a flashlight save. Soon second or two after I finish pickup and start moving to a hook I hear the DC sound. Assumed the surv I picked up ragequit and start trying to find the nea but then suddenly i get stunned and an injured surv is running away.

The Nea DCd the second she realised I had lightborn. I never even layed a finger on her 🀣 ironically it caused me to drop the survivor I was carrying which is what she was trying to do. Always gives me a chuckle.

  • Yh i noticed that recently, could've sworn one of them was supposed to do mangled

That's late, how much they cost? It's really unfortunate they were removed in 2021 when ST season 4 came out in 2022 like in 2021 most already forget the series almost. Vecna would make really cool killer. But netflix wants instead make those puzzle games...

I was bidding on ebay, spent Β£70 on it, so like $85-90 i think?

    And there's always season 5 πŸ‘€

Bit of a pipe dream probably. Netflix seems to be a bit iffy when it comes to making smart decisions lol.

Oh 100% Overwatch is more toxic, but that's not the subject of discussion here. It's that a ranked mode wouldn't make all the sweaty players just play that mode exclusively.

In Overwatch, you have Arcade for goofing off, Quickplay for a quick match with no ranking, and competitive for increasing your rank. In QP, you've got: "It's just qp lol. Why are you trying?", "We're warming up for comp", and then you've got the premades who just want easy games.

The first example is people who are just testing out new heroes, not even trying to progress the objective. The second example is a group of 3 - 5 who use qp matches to "warm up" for comp, and proceed to steamroll your uncoordinated team with all meta picks. The third example is a 5-man premade who just wants to ruin everyone elses fun.

Ironically, the ranked mode is far more chill and less sweaty than quickplay because people derank for losing and nobody wants to be stuck in Bronze hell.

I'm not saying a casual playlist is going to be exclusively casual players. You definitely see some sweaty teams in quickplay. But there will be more of a correlation. In my overwatch quickplay games i have some bad games where we get steamrolled by sweats with diamond challenger titles, and I also have a lot more decent, even, fun games. A lot more than I do on dbd. With my killer mmr i have to sweat out my ass most games to avoid a 0/1k, and my survivor games I'm generally dying constantly because I can't get my friends to swf, I dislike playing with online strangers and solo q games are hot trash. There's not really any way for me to kick back and relax on dbd, i have to play hard practically all of the time, and honestly I've never come across an online game that makes me work so hard because it only has one sbmm playlist.

Ranked would be exclusively players playing hard to win just like in OW. Casual would be a mix just like in quickplay. Never claimed this solution would 100% fix every game. But it would shift the balance of players in the correct direction so people would find the game more enjoyable. One playlist would be full of people who want to be there, the other would be a mix. But if all the sweaty players are playing ranked, basic maths suggests that there would be less hardcore players in the casual playlist.

What you're saying essentially is that if a change doesn't make the game perfect, it isn't worth doing. That way nothing would get done.

That is very optimistic take indeed. I would like it very much I didn't buy nancy back then I just started playing seriously in september 2021 so I though she was no more than skin and my friend advice not to buy her for perks which become free... But she is in fact very funny sounding skin. I do really like some of her cosmetics but back then I didn't even have any cosmetics. Well my friends at least don't have any of them even they started playing in late 2020s.

Yh i got lucky, started playing august 2022 and got hold of a physical copy of the nightmare editiom for xbox. (Only way to get stranger things in xbox currently)

But I'd love to be able to buy more cosmetics, particularly for demo as he's my killer main.

Plus if they did stranger things I reckon they'd do a chapter with vecna as a killer which could be really cool.

I noticed that I get less kills than before so I decided to change that now. I play less too nowadays but still it's been while I reached good kill total number.

Each to their own really. I'm just not fussed by my numbers anymore, or my monthly rank. I just want to enjoy the game, and I like helping other players enjoy the game a bit more. When I let a surv go we both know I'd beat them so I still get a challenge and the feel of winning. I just sacrifice like 1-2k bp so the surv can get 7k plus and a survival 😊

If blight can go without any nerf there is no any reason to nerf demo that add on makes him A tier killer for me so it's not too strong.

Yh for sure. There are killers that definitely needed rebalancing much more than demo. I honestly don't know why they are messing with him, sonce he isn't even buyable anymore. I'm just going to be optimistic and take it as a sign that maybe stranger things is going to make a return 🀞

  • Usual survivor story, solo q sucks absolute ass. And sweaty swfs always dominate.

  • @ExcelSword said:

Seriously, ever since the bots were released, I have heard so many players parroting this.

I admit, the game has unfun issues, things that need to be addressed. Things that are unfun to play against.

But when did everyone decide that it suddenly okay to DC? Why is Dead by Daylight the only game I know that this has apparently become okay?

Seriously, I don't care about forcing people to stay in the game, but it is normal in pretty much every other team based game that isn't free for all with back-fill to punish and decentivise people leaving their matches constantly.

Nobody forces you to stay, but its expected you will be hit with penalties for doing it frequently. These games also have unfun things. I don't like getting instantly sniped out of spawn, or dying to a grenade I never saw.

Again, I understand that the game is unfun at times, but I had a teammate literally kill themselves on hook because they get gen grabbed by a pig. "You can't force him to play the game" Yeah but the devs with the leaver penalty can at least prevent him from immediately queueing into another match where he is free to screw his team out as soon as his ego is bruised.

It's the rallying call of players who believe they should be able to ragequit at the slightest provocation regardless of how it ruins the games for other players.

Kind of like the survivor version of killers saying "I'm not responsible for your fun"

Clearly you've never played Overwatch. Arcade? Sweaty. Quickplay? Sweaty. Competitive? Surprisingly less sweaty.

Overwatch was much easier to get into than dbd. And in my experience overwatch is way more toxic

  • @Snowball777 said:

    Longer queues = No.

Also it doesn't matter, butthurt players will just join casual play to stomp people looking to relax.

Only way casual play will be acceptable is if it doesn't allow SWF.

Or perhaps have an upvote/downvote based system of matchmaking. We have an upvote button in dbd already, not quite sure why as it doesn't do anything as far as I know.

Utilise it, overwatch has a similar system with endorsements, you see the endorsement level of a player and you know that if it is high they are generally liked by other players.

If a killer or swf sweats out and makes games unpleasant for players they get downvoted and matched against each other.

Obvs not a perfect system but there are ways to make it work. Even if casual had it's own sbmmr you'd get the sweaty toxic players matched more often against each other if they repeatedly stomp other players.

And perhaps queue times might not be as long if dbd was better at retaining players. I picked it up a year ago, and I thoroughly enjoy it but I'm unusual. Ive racked up 40 days playtime in a year. πŸ‘€ probably a bit much now that I think about it. But the friends i got into the game have all decided it isn't fun because it's such a punishing experience. Some people I try to get into dbd straight up refuse to play it because it has a reputation as being so hostile to new players. I certainly struggled for a long time and nearly quit the game early on because it simply wasn't fun, didn't feel like I had a chance when I played as surv. If a casual playlist was a bit more accessible then perhaps more players would stick with dbd.

  • @MrCrowBard said:

This comes up fairly often and I still don't understand why you'd think people playing in unranked would play any different to how people play today? You'd still get the 60min SM games, camping killers, BNP swfs and stun squads in casual that you see today.

Balancing around ranked and unranked means the devs have twice the work to balance around and a vocal amount of people already feel like not enough time is spent on overall balancing in the right way. Fracturing it would drive more work and overall make a worse experience for players.

I'm not saying EVERYBODY will suddenly play nicely. Gaming doesn't work like that.

But it will certainly lessen the issue, the sweaty players who want to win at all costs will more naturally gravitate towards ranked play. And in the casual playlist you'll be more likely to run into other more casual players. Not 100% of the time but certainly more than currently happens.

  • @rvzrvzrvz said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515671#Comment_3515671

It's not going to work if I'm a mean killer I will queue in casual and still tunnel and camp just to ruin your games, only way is to fix it with gameplay mechanics make it impossible or very punishing to hard tunnel, it will need some balancing with gen speed but it's doable, or as a bandaid make DS useful again

I mean it'll still happen but it will lessen it. And how would you mechanically change the game to discourage it? Co ordinated swfs already have a pretty easy time of things right now, if you speed up gens the problem gets worse and it will cause more tunneling/face camping. If you drop gen speeds then solo q and lower mmr survs will have an even worse time of it.

  • @rvzrvzrvz said:

The whole rank thing is funny with people playing like their life depends on it, you don't gain anything from a 4k in this game, iri 1 is 1 million BP that's like 5 games with cakes

Devs have increased killrates that's cool but they failed to make the game fun, it's really stale I get a camping killer half of the time, hard tunneling is meta it's the only way to play against good teams, kilers like blight/wesker can facecamp from 30 meters away that's probably why they're so popular, I can't wait to be facecamped by alien it's really a fun game atm..

plz focus on fun not killrates, no one cares

    @jamally093 said:

A side from camping tunneling is just annoying and overall boring. One gen went by ONE SINGLE GEN and all of a sudden that means let's tunnel one survivor. Okay I would get it if three gens went off back to back but one gen was done and all of a sudden that means let's tunnel. "Your fun is not my priority." I get it but still I don't see how you can find any fun in tunneling to me I find it just boring I'm seriously just trying to have a fun time playing the game since I still have hope the game is at least decent enough to enjoy.

Before you ask I have taken breaks from the game countless times.

At the end of the day tunneling is a winning strategy. I'm not a fan of it myself, definitely not when I'm playing surv. I understand late game tunneling to secure a kill or midgame for pressure, but i have a real thing against tunneling someone hard straight away and don't do it myself (unless there is a challenge or achievement to get)

It's hard to stop mechanically, the only way to stop tunneling really is to persuade players. And some players will want to win as easily as possible regardless of how unpleasant they make things for the others in the game.

My best suggestion is simply to separate ranked and casual play into 2 separate playlists. That way they could make the ranked experience more competitive and even.

  • Ooh interesting, I'm enjoying these comics. Always thought it would be cool to see them flesh out a few survivor backgrounds with regards to their sexuality. But didn't consider the killers.

Hehe yh i love playing iri demo in customs and hearing people when I jumpscare them 🀣

I'm a little disappointed at the nerf, but it was a little too strong. It'll still be pretty good, just gotta place portals towards the outside to get a better view while portalling.

Yeah I give hatch or gate way more than I get it myself partly because of that. I used to not like be that sweaty killer slugging desberately for 4K but instead being friendly one. Most survivors do get very happy when killer let's them escape. Recently though I have not given hatch for a while because im sweating to reach bigger kill total but I still don't slug. Maybe I farm few games at some point though with last 2.

Yh i kind of did it in reverse, used to sweat out the 4k when I started the game, but I'd say maybe 3 months in I mellowed a bit. After I got iri 1 for both roles i figured well I've done that now so stopped worrying about emblems and just play to enjoy now. And if I can help survs enjoy it a little more then why not let some go? I generally try to be nice to newer or low skill players. And mirror the energy I get, if survs are clearly a sweating swf ill play hardball, if they are a toxic bully squad I'll give them a few nods as they ascend after I counterplay their torches, if survs are chill or low skill I dial it back a notch and play around a bit to eke out the bp for everyone and be more chill.

Kate later wrote: "Shame on you." because I was using this build. A bit hypocritical when she was the one that actually disconnected from the match but I guess someone as toxic as me shouldn't complain. πŸ˜‰

I'd say this SWF got a bit unlucky. I understand that they weren't happy about this but calling this a toxic noob build and later on implying it's overpowered goes a bit far. I gave the Steve hatch but it turned out that was a mistake. The things he wrote are very much in line with those you can see.

This is probably the most funny match up I've had until now. I didn't even look at their items in the lobby. It just kinda happened.

Have you had similar moments where you either countered the killer's or the survivors' builds?

🀣 that made for funny reading. Imagine getting salty over a meme build. And shame on the Steve, should never talk ######### to killers after they are nice and let you go.

Also I ######### love your ingame name 🀣 and it's mad appropriate as a response to survs salty at your billy game.

  • As a demo main the iri combo is kinda cracked. On it's own it's fine but combine it with the other iri add on and it's nuts.

Like it's my lazy option when I just want to dominate a game with relative ease. Kinda weird to focus on tweaking demo (which is not available to get anymore) when there are other more relevant killers way more in need of balancing.

  • I give hatch/door to last surv mst of the time unless I have an achievement/ challenge that requires a 4k. Or if they aggravated me particularly.

Tbh a lot of the time I let 2 survs finish gens and go while I farm out extra bp spamming my power or breaking doors.

It happens to me rarely when i play surv but I do get the odd killer that lets me go or farms the last 2, so they are out there. But like 95% of killers just sweat the 4k, even when I offer them a present πŸ₯²

It's impossible to police it but deliberately dying on hook early throws games so badly. I don't think it should be reportable but it would be good if they removed the potential for abuse.

Good way to do it would be to remove the penalty for trying to self unhook and decrease the chance to successfully self unhook and/or decrease the number of attempts you're allowed.

I wouldn't run lightborn as standard, I'll usually switch to it if I see 2+ flashlights or i suspect a bully squad just to make life easy. Flashlights are pretty easy to counterplay particularly if there is only one.

You could definitely do with some regression, pop synergises pretty well with nowhere to hide as does overcharge. All 3 together is a pretty decent combo. Blood favor and bamboozle together is a little overkill on the anti vaulting too. Bamboozle is more reliable, if you want to do well hex perks are very iffy. Perhaps swap bloodfavor for superior anatomy? Along with bamboozle you fly through vault locations and can catch survs unawares by prethrowing a tonic through the vault, slowed surv plus fast clown vault equals a cheeky hit.

My personal clown build I do well with is spirit fury, bamboozle, brutal strength and jolt. Ends chases quickly to help trigger jolt as much as possible. Usually combo the mangled + longer intoxication addons. Mangled adds a bit of heal pressure. But another addon tactic I like is garish makeup kit+ cigar box, antidote buffing yourself for aura reading is actually really good, especially against survs hiding near gens, it's like budget nowhere to hide plys you are hasted so you can catch them unawares.

Also out of interest what addons are you using? They can make a huge difference.

Edit: read the thread properly and saw your add ons. Not a fan of those ones, they just don't give enough value imo, better to place bottles carefully and get more value rather than spam them willy nilly.

Also random note, a handy tech with clown is if you hit the bottle high up, say the lights up above a gen, or high up on a tree it actually causes the gas to spread over a wider area. Good for saturating gens or prepping an antidote buff.

Yeah I think tunneling right at the start of the game should be punished more. Sometimes it is when killer chooses to tunnel wrong survivor but it should not be easiest stragedy to win. But sometimes killer has to tunnel first survivor when gens fly so game can't just force killer to hook others. Some basekit mechanic to slow down tunneling could be fine if gens speed also get slowed down or survivors get another objective.

Yh issue is there is no way to add a mechanic to stop tunneling in some situations but not others. It'll always be a bit of an issue

  • It varies.

Hard tunneling the first player you down when you realise that they can't run chase? Pretty unfun scummy move. But it guarantees an easy game. Ruins the game for that player.

Midgame, you are 2/3gens down and have the choice of pursuing the unhooked surv with 2 hooks states who is 8 secs away from an easy 1 hit down and kill, or the uninjured surv with 1 hook state. You need that pressure to keep the balance on your side. I know what my choice would be and I've done it many times. That kind of tunneling is just smart play, plus the surv has had time to actually play and achieve something.

But in my experience surv players usually cry foul when they get tunneled at any point. I once tunneled a vittorio with 1 gen left, one dead player, 2 double hooked hadn't seen her all game. I tunneled them for 3 full hooks states late game because i wanted to let the other 2 go.

That vittorio was PISSED. 🀣 got a lot of hatemail for that one. They even got a friend of theirs to message me saying I'd been reported to bhvr with video evidence πŸ˜‚

Aura reading is the strongest type of tracking, and this addon has it map wide... One could make a very good argument that it's the best tracking tool in the game. I feel like the reason more ppl don't use it is due to not knowing it was changed and getting use to using the same brown and yellow addons every game.

Might also be that most demo players are so experienced and simply dont use it because it makes the gamr very easy and boring. Personally I prefer to muck around with interesting builds. Only use the iri sweat build if I'm particularly fed up of survivors being trolls lol

The Plague addon requires survivors to be sick. The Demo addon instead was just a map wide aura read on demand. This nerf is leaving the addon in a good state, but now it has SOME requirement. You still get a map wide aura reading during the travel phase.

First smart opinion I've heard about this nerf lol. Lot of people on this thread clearly havent come up against an iri demo.

I main demo and I agree with this nerf, the 3 second mapwide aura read was insane, particularly combined with the undetectable boost after portalling. It was always my fallback build if I'd had a few frustrating killer games, run iri demo and I was guarenteed a win. In the last 6 months i had a single 2k game with that build, the rest were all 3/4ks.

  • Lol wut? I don't think this post proves what OP wants it to prove.

  • If people sweating that 4k for an adept or pips then it will happen. Personally unless I'm trying to adept I'll only do it if the last person has 0 or 1 hook state and i want to catch them. Then I'll usually let the slugee go
