As much as I hate to say it, just telling people to stop wont do anything. Toxic players will never ever change. Unless they get perma banned. But that won't happen.

This is too right. Whatever is fundamentally skewed about someone to make them act like that can't be changed. And of course, like any good online game, DbD will never ban them.

  • That sweet, sweet Kindred. If it's missing from a character, I lose my mind. Also, and I may get hate for this, Urban Evasion. Like others do with Iron Will, I use this to escape. It's saved my ass a billion times by letting me circle obstacles and stay ahead of the killer's FOV.

I don't currently have a must-have killer perk, I mostly play just one killer. However, once I get BBQ teachable, it'll probably be that. I used to turn my nose up at it, until I actually looked at it and saw that it gives bonus BP.

  • It's really not about the killer, it's about people not being able to adapt to the gameplay for it, you being good at it, and them not accepting that they haven't adapted. Some killers are easier to pick on than others because they're powerful in their own right, or they're abused by trolls to ruin the game for other players. Spirit is scary, but she isn't terrible to play against if you know how to survive. She's got tells and ways to avoid her notice. Of course, add-ons can kind of disrupt the usual expectations, but like I said, you must adapt to survive.

Just remember, it's not you, it's them. You can always give them a friendly reminder that if they want to escape, they can work on improving their skill. Or just tell them to git gud, it's really up to you.

  • There's some risks I don't really wanna take, like trying to get someone off the hook while Bubba's staring them in the face.

  • Yeah, there's a lot of variables here and I think others summed it up pretty well. If you want your survs to have a chance after doing all of that, it's best to not use basement hooks at all. Some are overly cautious because they've been burned by the infamous Basement Bubba, some are new and too nervous to attempt those saves, some just don't care. But seeing three people all basement hooked at once... I do some stupid [BAD WORD] while playing survivor, but even I might be wary about that.

Of course, I had a similar incident happen recently where the killer was a Bubba, and downed two people and hooked them close together. I assumed he was camping and didn't go in for the saves, just did gens because I considered the match lost, especially when he found the third surv a minute later. They all jumped on me at the end of the match like I was the bad guy, but again. This ain't my first rodeo. I'm used to tons of campers wasting my time with bait hooks.

I didn't mean specifically you, i meant you and your team, if it happens that fault from all of you. And even if you are on the same gen you can split up and he won't be able to do it, don't run in the straight line like a sheep

Sure, jump into a closet and hope you can hit space faster than he can. Vault a window and hope hit validation doesn't bone you. Just keep running and hope he's not using add-ons that increase his chainsaw tantrum for longer than you can dodge.

He's an absolutely ridiculous killer. He's easy to play, easy to abuse, and awful to deal with if you aren't on a coordinated team with discord. At least then, they have a chance to maximize the time they have while Bubba's staring their hooked team member in the face for 45 seconds. People here love to ######### about Unbreakable, but after enough matches with slugging Bubbas who just run their chainsaw out as long as possible to get as many survs as they can, I'm seriously thinking about putting it on all my characters. I'm tired of getting dunked on by a stupid [BAD WORD] character that should be easy to handle because people play him to troll and ruin the game for other players.

Hahaha yeah i kinda forgot about the fact that sabotaged hooks didn't respawned ๐Ÿ˜‚

They indeed did a lot of improvements over the years, but i just found it hilarious that the person I replied to said in never was survivor sided.

That cracked me up and I thought about this dark page in dbd history ๐Ÿ˜‚

For real for real. The early days were rough.

    all my friends who are good at the game dislike farming because it's boring. Seems like the community is split into two with this one;

1st Group: Bad Players - Love farming no matter what

2nd Group: Good Players - Hate Farming, or only farm under certain conditions (like 6x BP during events and using offerings)

Sounds like you and your friends are pretty boring yourselves.

I prefer what some have called "scary farming." You play like it's for real, but you take every pallet to the face, you let people heal, you scare them off gens and kick them, you chase them, down them, hook everyone twice, and once you've gotten your points and you're pretty sure they have theirs, the game is basically over and they skedaddle out the gate. It doesn't need to be everyone standing in a line waiting to be downed, hooked, and healed.

Also, I currently don't have BBQ so I go with Distressing/Beast of Prey/Thrill of the Hunt. I like to think it makes me work harder.

P.S. If I see anyone play streamers or cake, I instantly go into farming mode. Maximize those gains, bro.

  • According to the forums, the reports basically go in a bin somewhere that gets dumped at the end of each week. They do nothing.

  • Yeah, uh... They stopped doing events, so now everything is like, DIY or whatever. It was kinda disappointing, I forgot which days some of the sweaters were and I missed Felix and Zarina. It's supposed to show on the in-game news each time you log in, but my news thing must be busted because it pops up maybe 25% of the time? Sometimes I forget it exists.

Than you haven't been here since the start.

Infinites, always fast vaults, tons of pallets, instant flashlights, BNP for a gen in a few sec, insta heals.

But yeah kept telling yourself It was never survivor sided ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

This, actually. They've done a lot of work to improve killers' playability. I wasn't around back in those dark days, but one of my friends was. He used to be able to go through an entire map with Jake Park and take down every hook.

For me its different. I started to getting rid of most of my information perks. While i did need to run BBQ for bloodpoints, i often played with NC or other info too.

When i played with Billy every match was a rush duel. Stop them with killing or all gens are done.

Info perks did make it easy against Self carer etc but now i think i should get the information with game knowledge and not with perks. I still playing with NC when its good for the killer like Ghostface or Wraith, but i dont play it on killers like billy.

I always liked sloppy and now i play more often with StbfL.

You're valid. Those perks are meant to improve on something you already have, not replace your sense of the game. Some people stack BBQ and Nurse's Calling, which seems excessive to me. It feels like they just want the perks to tell them where everyone is so they can get easy downs. Rhe redundancy feels like a big waste of a perk slot.

Even without NC, self-carers do more to mess with their team's flow than some killer perks do. Every time I see someone using it, my mind is blown.

  • @Izy said:

Most of the toxic survivors just don't understand killer. Their expectations of how a game should go often don't reflect what's reasonable for a killer to try and regain their momentum.

Survivors don't care if you 4k, they are never going to do you any favors. They will always try and stomp you. Their idea of fair is that they should be able to 1v1 you and that you shouldn't worry that there's 3 others out there.

You'll know deep down if you camped or intentionally tunneled at 5 gens. You'll never convince them to see from your perspective. Just gg and move on.

I hate to #NotAllSurvs you, but...

    Not all survs.

It really depends on how you approach the game. It's usually easy to tell what kind of killer you're working with by the second chase, kinda like it's easy to tell what kind of survivors you're working with if three gens pop while you were still downing your first hook. If I can already tell a killer is looking to maximize play and do a lot in a match, I relax a little. I still don't wanna get hit, but I'll poke around, open chests, unhook and heal. I will admit to getting scared by some killers just because of the character they're playing, and pushing harder because of that, though... [squints at Myers]

  • I never guard my Ruin, I know when it goes, it goes, but I also main Oni. By the time it's blown, I've hopefully gotten my juice and can dash the survivor who took it down.

This is making me want to try some new stuff though. I usually go with Sloppy (of course), Distressing/Infectious Fright over M&A/IF, but I could swap out my Ruin for Coulrophobia and see what happens... The Whispers thing is interesting... but I don't think I would like it on him. I can use an add-on to increase orb aura distance and literally watch them drop from someone on the other side of a wall. He makes a ton of noise when Wrath activates, and I feel like the combo of Whispers and his champion-level heavy breathing might make me miss something even more important, like someone entering a closet right behind me or rustling some cattails.

  • Full screen, but just because I hate the windowed edge. My monitor is big enough that size isn't an issue, I just really hate the bars...

  • I'd love something like this, because I can think of a few absolute trolls offhand I'd like to never play against ever again (one of whom blocked my friend in a basement corner and went afk for two hours, and another who plays the worst possible killer game and comes in chat afterward to talk about how he banged your mom, of course...) and at least one surv I'd never want on my team. But it's never going to happen because the player base isn't big enough and like people said above, some might try to abuse it to get easier matches. I know Overwatch's Avoid Player has a time limit, and you can only avoid a certain number of people, so maybe BHVR would be okay with something like that? It's just extremely unlikely.

  • There is only one completely awful build I find in this game, and it's the Insidious Basement Bubba. Is it an exploit? No. Is it taking advantage of readily available perks to make games as unrewarding as possible for survs? Yes. It's a troll build that still manages to chap my hide because solo survivors make stupid choices and turn what could have been a 3-escape with moderate blood points into a dumpster fire 4K with like 6k points, if you were really trying to grind through it.

If you're the unlucky bastard he caught first, you'll be lucky to get 3k. You get to be the lucky person who struggles against Iron Grasp/Agitation, still gets basement hooked, and now has the dubious honor of hitting space to give the other survs some time. Or you just rage quit and he chops down someone else.

At this point, if I enter a match with a Cannibal, I don't go to unhook unless I see someone else try it first. It sucks, but I don't wanna waste my time more than the killer already has.

  • So, there's a lot of circle-jerking from killers here saying that you don't need to be "well-mannered" because survs are just whiny. Yes, there are a lot of whiny survs. And then there are the ones who thrash you and have the nerve to tell you you're crap at this because they got a win. It's a double-edged sword. This is supposed to be a GAME.

That said, I prefer to play by giving lots of chances for actual gameplay. As survivor, you generally get pretty crappy blood points (which is the entire reason I started playing killer). Ending a game as fast as possible is gonna make people not like you, because they get bad scores and no points. You may have noticed this game is super grindy, and points from a single match get you almost nowhere. You don't have to farm with them, but getting very skilled with a few killers and knowing how to control match tempo is helpful. I prefer big, loud, fast killers (Oni is my favorite) but if you're god tier as a Ghost Face, work that. Contrary to popular belief, killers have a lot of power, especially if you know how to make the most of their abilities. You can try what one dude said, not using add-ons, but I like the way they can change up your ability and they're kinda fun sometimes. Just don't count on them for your power, because that poster was right about people relying on them too much. Even a face-camping trash Bubba will get wrecked by skilled survivors if he's relying on those totally wack add-ons they love to use.

The more you rank up, the less matches will be skewed toward you, though. New survivors are often too timid or make very bad decisions, making them think you picked on them. If they're smart, they'll learn. If not, they're just doomed to be toxic, but hopefully you'll outrank them. I'd say things get less nasty with higher ranked survivors, but that's when you get the 4-player SWFs that will thrash you, then drag you in chat for being "bad at killer." You're not, they're just more powerful with communication. If they bully you in match, hang your usual playstyle and go hardball. Obviously, they don't think that this is a game meant to give both sides time to do their work and be rewarded, so don't let them get theirs.

If (god forbid) you reach Rank 1 as killer, just remember that playing badly, i.e., tunneling down a survivor that plays well, downing as many as possible at once for "easy" hooks, whatever other bad habits people pick up, aren't worth being Rank 1. I've seen Rank 1 killers make some terrible excuses for the crap they do to get a 4k, and in the end, people don't like them and tell them how they feel in the chat. Again, it's a game. Two sides playing together, working toward separate goals, but they still need each other to play. Tanking the opponent doesn't do either of you any good, it just makes for a miserable game, and if you aren't one of the absolute sickos who play badly just because they like making others miserable, don't do it.

Some of the most fun games I've had were when I was just trying to achieve a challenge or earn blood points. The survivors might have all escaped, but I still got a good score and all the sweet BP. You don't have to be gross and sweaty and kill everyone. Some killers think it's "their job" to kill everyone because "I'm the killer," and they'll do anything to do it. No, it's not a job, it's a goal to kill survivors, but it's not guaranteed, for the same reason it's not guaranteed that survivors survive. People make decisions that might or might not be helpful, they make mistakes, stuff happens, the game ends and you're either satisfied that it was a good match, or you're not. If you are, congrats! The game worked! If not, you re-queue and hope to have a better run next round.

TL;DR, Play the game to PLAY the game. Know that you and the survs are both important. Gaining rank doesn't matter if you're miserable or you're making others miserable.

Please, enlighten us with the counterplay to Spirit I'd love to hear that

    Don't get hit. Ez. /s

  • Love too see a game have a report system that does absolutely nothing. 10/10, five stars, BHVR

  • I really love running No Mither/Resilience/This Is Not Happening/Flex. It's just a big meme, if you go up against an Oni, he'll never not be using his Fury. I cross my fingers and hope not to get found for a long time because I know NM makes you an easy target, but it's amazing how fast things go when you run these.

If I want to be super extra for points, I go with Kindred/WGLF/We'll Make It/Prove Thyself and immediately bail on gens to unhook. Just heal them super fast right under the hook and bam, safe unhook done. If you gotta run, take the hit for them and still get the extra points.

On the Oni, I go with Distressing/Infectious Fright/a bunch of stuff to make people bleed. He gets lots of screams. You can hear him from like ten miles away, and I assume on small maps, its almost impossible to leave his terror radius.

  • I'm gonna back the poster who said Face Camp Bubba. The problem is that, when he's after you, it is 1v1. And once you're caught, you have to just hope like hell no one is stupid enough to come near you. Once you're dead, after having zero chance of escape, he moves on to someone else. Depending on add-ons, he can chase someone with that chainsaw for about eight seconds, which severely limits escape options, no matter how many vaults or pallets you have available. If you're on open ground, you're done for. Then he parks his pancake butt in front of the next poor sod who got caught, and the other two have to double-time it and hope that survivor doesn't try to unhook themselves and shorten their time limit.

If you want to get out of a match with a Bubba like that, EVERYTHING has to go right. Otherwise, he just shreds you like cheese and you lose a pip. It's an awful build made worse by people who run BBQ with it so their garbage score still gets them 32k blood points.

  • @The_Bootie_Gorgon said:

How is a killer friendly if they kill?

It's all about how they do it. You know, like service with a smile and that kinda thing. They tell you "My Pleasure" at the end of the match.

  • Have to agree, I've seen the same issue in multiple matches.

  • I think I'd like to see another Bubba change, mostly so players can't build him into a near-impossible-to-escape monster. People have mentioned pallets and jumping windows, which are valid escape tactics, but if they down you in one hit, Iron Grasp/Agitation their way to a hook, throw you on, and park nearby with Insidious, you need the devil's luck to get back off.

  • I don't consider it friendly, I just consider it good sportsmanship and manners to occasionally let the last person escape. If a game is going well, and I know I've racked up a good number of points, I might as well. I don't do it if I see them behaving badly toward other survivors in match, though, and sometimes I get a little capricious and kill them all anyway. But some games, I just take the L because I don't follow anyone straight off the hook, I don't "proximity patrol," and I don't slug unless survivors are pulling ballsy moves and get in my way while injured.

Farming is something I don't do a ton, and if I do, I do it in as close a manner to normal game play as possible. I only hook each player twice, still do chases and the like, but I'll let them slap me with pallets and flashlight me.

  • Yeah I think plenty of people play both, because let's be real, the BP are usually better if you play killer. At least, if you play killer well.

People being mean just to be mean, and being unable to do anything about them, that's another matter entirely. For instance, one of my friends got in a game with a Trapper who body-blocked them in a corner of the basement after everyone else was dead. There was literally nothing they could do to escape except disconnect and take the resulting penalty. Eventually the Trapper disconnected, saving them the trouble, but it was bad behavior for no reason except to ruin someone else's time.

Meanwhile, there's a whole host of people who exclusively play Insidious Bubba builds and chainsaw as many people down as possible so it's impossible to help one another, then stand in front of the hook chainsawing them over and over as they slowly die. It's got nothing to do with not understanding the other side. These players know exactly what they're doing. They don't care. They're deliberately malicious because they enjoy ruining a game for other people.

  • I don't understand what happens when people start playing this game. The first thing I learned, admittedly with help from a friend, was to just find a gen and start on it. If you aren't running for your life, do a gen. If you're not cleansing a totem, do a gen. If you're not actually dying in some way, do a gen. If someone else is not actually dying in some way, do a gen (though starting out, that can be difficult and saving people is a thing I'm working on). If the dying person has Kindred and everyone else is running to save them... do a gen. The doors aren't going to magically open because you stayed hid from the killer real good. This isn't hide and seek. It can be intimidating, but you might have to get hit and die. That's what moves the game forward. It's also how you learn how not to get hit and die.

It can be tough, though. Even playing with rank 20s who are smart and have good game sense, you're with people who don't have the advantages of map knowledge and a full loadout of good, synergizing perks. I don't know what BHVR plans to do with its matchmaking, or if they can even change it without causing serious problems because there aren't enough players of similar rank to warrant matching them together. However, making everyone miserable with the current system, which seems to operate based on a monkey throwing darts at a username chart, isn't effective at keeping players in the game.

  • I kinda like the way this shakes out. I don't play Pig, but I've played against her a few times, and I think the slowdown helped her, but didn't really put pressure on the people wearing RBTs. In one match, I was able to run around for what must've been near half the game wearing one before I got too nervous and started looking for Jigsaw boxes.

I think having a killer who is built to slow down a match would be pretty helpful in the meta, and with a few tweaks, Pig could do it.

  • I've had a couple chases as survivor where the killer surprised me and I tried to sprint away, only to stay stuck in a crouch-walk and get downed moments later. Pretty sure it was lag/latency issue.

  • Heck, I don't care if they ban them for a week. Players who deliberately play in an unsportsmanlike way deserve something in return, and I don't consider camping/tunneling and gameplay with actual strategy "unsportsmanlike." Slugging everyone and letting them all bleed out for a match, repeatedly downing and picking up the last survivor in front of the locked exit gate, so they can't escape or die, these are things that disrupt the intended function of the game and warrant a response.

The repeated downing and picking up was something I saw in one of my own games tonight. Killer was a Nurse, took out three of us in maybe as many minutes, then toyed with the last one at the exit gate until they presumably got bored and threw him on a hook.

Don't @ me about dying to a Nurse in under 4 minutes.

  • Killers have a pretty wide rage of detection perks, including the ones that actually show survivor auras like BBQ and Bitter Murmur. Like survivors though, they usually choose not to use them, with the notable exception of BBQ. Where survivors prioritize second chance perks, killers prioritize slowdown, since detection is useless if you only detect four people each working on different gens ten miles apart.

Also, I'm pretty sure swf with discord works better than most detection perks anyway. That way survivors can do stuff like all work on different gens ten miles apart, and not waste perk slots for detection.
