DS is the sole reason that tunneling is not as rampant as it already is now.
There are some killers who have a self sense of honor about not tunneling off the hook - but the majority, yeah they would do it way more if the threat of DS was not in the picture.
I try not to tunnel; but if we meet again after you escape and you're still vulnerable? Yeah, I'll bop ya one.

Almost every single high level game it’s always DS, Unbreakable, some exhaustion perk (usually dead hard) and then a perk of your choice.
I think it’s an issue that stems from DS being sort of being both a little too powerful and unreplaceable. The game does nothing to discourage tunneling without the use of perks, and because tunneling is so powerful for killer survivors are kinda forced into using DS.
I feel like the only way to ‘fix’ DS is to make some sort of anti-tunneling measure base kit (not sure what this would be) and then take DS in some other direction.
Buffing a lot of the crap perks would also go along way, as some are just kinda useless.
I think it's less of an issue with DS specifically. And more that DS is an obvious symptom of a larger problem overall.
We have a handful of strong perks on either side and of you assume most people want to win, and winning to them is a 4k or an escape, they'll use the most effective means at their disposal to achieve that goal.
Instead of -just- reworking high tier meta perks, I'd like to see BHVR intentionally break their meta for a couple days or a week every month.
Like, give us a mini-bloodrush (1.25-1.6x-ish) for a weekend or a week, and just BREAK a couple different perks each time. Then revert them when the events over.
We'd all get to experiment, get some extra BPs, and maybe some changes will be awesome and stay. And if the changes suck, it was only for a week.

Most people tend to watch content creators if their personality/opinions align with their own.
Take Scott for example, he is one of the most analytical when it comes to DBD, he has always been open about his opinions on killers like Spirit yet still attempts to remain objective in his videos. People who always agree with what he says may not be agreeing because he is their favorite streamer, but because his views match their own. I fall into this category myself.
I've been really liking Scott's talking videos.
My only issue is that he seems to assume all players will play optimally 100% of the time, unless they're absolute taters. I always find myself wanting to argue from the perspective of the other 85-90% of the player base that's just consistently okay at the game, lol.

I just usually run Franklin's. Not to troll, I just like to use it as a slow-down/bait tool.
I noticed a lot of survivors got greedy for their items, and I found it helpful.
Later on, though, I figured out how to be a little sneaky about the clicky-clicky peeps. I guess people don't really expect FD, so I let them get brave and then make them drop the flashlight. Then I have a good idea of where they're gonna come back to after I'm done chasing their friend.

If they are so unimportant, then it wouldn't be such a big deal to make it available for everyone?
You're correct, it would be a non-issue.
But the devs decided not to, so I was just suggesting it might be a better use of your time to move on.
This feels a little like trying to argue one's way into getting more Christmas presents.

Just rework OoO and fix SWF.
Random toilet thought: what if OoO nagated all other aura reading? Like, you run OoO you can only see the killer when you proc it. No stacking with bond, no empathy, no maps, etc. And none of the default aura reading.
Wouldn't necessarily stop SWFs, but it would take some of the shine off so you might see it less in general.

If this is supposed to encourage me to open my wallet, it's having the exact opposite effect! If you can't even muster up some extra bloodpoints or shards as filler, I can't imagine the premium rift is gonna be much more satisfying.
And why do I get a notification after every single match I don't open it to go 'claim my reward'? That's some primo trolling.
I care approximately 0% about cosmetics even at the best of times, so I'm not the target audience regardless, but good lord could this be any more lazy and obvious? It's the most barebones battle pass concept I've seen so far, so much empty space.
You pay $10, play the rift, and get your $10 back. If you pay nothing and play the rift, you also still get your money back.
Plus, you can just look at the stuff in the rift and decide if you want to pay $10 or not. You literally don't even have to look at it ever.
Let's worry about more important things in the game. Kay?

Before I'll tell you why this all mess is one big hypocrisy let me state a few things:
1) I'm legacy owner myself. I'm not craving for making legacy not exclusive because I want it (though I'm lacking some pieces so that's partly the case). I'm asking for making legacy available because I believe it is not fair to people who didn't get to farm it and it is also unfair to some other ex-exclusive owners in light in BHVR's statements against exclusivity.
2) I'm not saying Legacy should be just given to everybody. It could and should take some work to do. Maybe farm devotion 10, maybe farm equally difficult bloodweb like in 2016 or farm 6 prestiges etc. The point is to make legacy AVAILABLE to everyone. So everyone could have a chance to EARN it and not have to buy accounts with it, hack it or simply look at others who have it and be jealous.
3) It doesn't matter whether legacy is good type of skins or not. People have different tastes and many of them would like to earn such skins because they liked them, no matter how bad they are.
Now, I'll be taking my information from these posts, which I consider BHVR's official position on that topic: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/103996/developer-update-november-2019#latest
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/164287/news-unlocking-event-cosmetics
If there are more posts, clips etc where they add more to their position about exclusivity, please share them here so I have more to add to my point. Let's begin.
My main thesis is
"Keeping legacy entirely exclusive, while distributing Event cosmetics and PAX2016 skins is a huge hypocrisy".
In November 2019 BHVR has decided, that they would like to move away from exclusivity and they wanted PC and console players be equal in that situation. Another reason were scammers, who sold exclusive skins for insane money and just took money without giving the code. For that reason they distributed different exclusive skins to people on all platforms available at the moment, with an exception of event skins (distributed on june 23) and legacy skins, which developers decided not to distribute for the following reasons (which they at least have stated in their blog):
- The difference between the Legacy items and the event items is that Legacy was earned before a major rework of the Bloodweb system
- To award Legacy to the rest of the community would severely alienate and undermine that part of the community that has been with us since 2016.
On first and even on second glance these reasons sound pretty fair. Sadly, they are not and here's why:
Difference between event skins and legacy skins
So, the first reason BHVR decided that legacy is not something worth distribution/making available, while event skins are is that Legacy skins were earned before a bloodweb rework and required a lot of work to earn.
However, BHVR seems to forget, that people didn't "just get" event skins for nothing. They also put a lot of work in earning these skins, which wasn't something easy aswell. Game in 2017, 2018 also had a lot of gamebreaking bugs or things that made it very hard to play. Yeah, it was "different" kind of effort, yet there was a lot of effort needed nonetheless.
Basically, BHVR implies that the effort people put into earning event skins is not enough to be taken into consideration, while the effort people put into earning legacy skins was enough to make these people "better" than other? BHVR undervalues effort people put into earning event skins and overvalues effort people put into earning legacy.
That's hypocrisy.
AWARDING X WOULD ALIENATE AND UNDERMINE THAT PART OF THE COMMUNITY
BHVR also says they wouldn't like to "alienate and undermine" certain parts of community. Isn't what they did with exclusive skins owners and event skins owners later? What makes these parts of the community worse than the legacy owners part? Because they joined later?
They are also using word "alienate", which I don't really understand here. Wouldn't "alienate" mean what it means if they highlighted that certain part of the community, making it worse/better than others? In case of legacy, this part of the community is already alienated by having what others don't. That part of the community is already alienated by BHVR's special treatment, which makes them different from other people. Making that part of the community equal to others, like they did with some other parts of the community wouldn't "alienate" anyone.
If this is not hypocrisy, I don't know what is then.
we hope to put an end to shady resellers and scams
If you didn't know, shady resellers and scammers don't sell only exclusive pax skins. They also sold legacy: accounts with legacy, accounts with hacked legacy and simply hacked legacy (give us login&pass to your acc, anon, and some money, we promise we give you legacy). Why not put an end to scammers selling exclusives AT ALL and not just reduce the spectre of stuff they are trying to use to scam you?
Please don't say these are rare. You can google or make a search on sites like ebay and you will easily find that filth there.
giving event skins to everyone gives them to those who lost them.
BHVR says:
To put it simply: there is no way for us to verify who earned these items legitimately, as they weren't stored in the same way we currently store items. Since then, we have reworked our storage system and item tracking and made sure that if a similar issue occurs, we should be able to easily restore items.
What should I add here? Oh yeah, people who lost their legacy because of a bug. They have put that "extremely valuable" effort and BHVR seems to be caring about such people very much, as BHVR refuses to undervalue their efforts in getting legacy. Why hasn't BHVR done anything about these people yet? There are a lot of ways to restore legacy, proving it with a steam achievement or a screenshot. Or are these people WORSE than those who got lucky and haven't lost their progress because of the bug? Are these people worse than those who lost their event skins? Why BHVR can't apply same rules to everyone? Why does BHVR feel the need to constantly undermine certain parts of the community, while overvaluing others? Or they just can't not to do that?? This is just another display of BHVR's hypocrisy on that topic.
people might feel disappointed, but we believe it's for the best.
While we do understand that some players may feel disappointed by having us award these items to people who may not have taken part in these events, we believe that we do this in the community's best interests.
Once again. If it's about event skins, then "it is for the community's best interests", but when it's about legacy, then "it's different".
One. Big. Hypocrisy.
please be consistent, bhvr.
If you refuse to go that path to its very end you should turn back. Return exclusivity to the skins you distributed (at least to those skins, that can be tracked by steam inventory), apologise to the people you robbed of skins and move on and never return to that. However, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't turn back.
If you still will to stay with the opinion you've shown in the posts I've linked above, don't be hypocrites. Apply the same rules to legacy, make it AVAILABLE to everyone. Don't try to sit on two chairs. Be fair to everyone. Make all players have same opportunities to get skins they would like to.
IN CONCLUSION
I would add more, if I find more "official" posts. I would personally like to find the post where one of devs says "you got to use these skins earlier", was it Peanits, right? Any help would be appreciated.
And to you, community managers and mods, who, I'm pretty sure, are going to read that post, please don't answer if you're going to answer with a generic "Legacy is diFfErEnT". Just don't. Thanks.
P.S.
I'm pretty sure I've crossed the line with that post, though I don't care much. I respect BHVR for what they have achieved with DbD so far, yet I can't remain positive about all their decisions. I apologise for my rude statements, yet I can't keep them to myself, because I believe that's undeniable truth. If I broke some rules with that posts and I get banned, then so be it, as it is all about sending a message, which I hope reaches the right person.
You do realize its just different colored pixels, right?
There are more important things to deal with. Chill, bruh.

You can be glib if you want, but new characters, racial representation regardless, isn't a huge issue in the game right now.

I think bhvr is actually okay on this front. The cast is about 30% non-white. A little more if you pull out the licensed survs.
Plus a fair few of the killers are non-white. Wraith, Hag, Doc, Spirit, Oni, Plague, Joey (but he's just a skin really). It looks like they've been very mindful of making things more representative than the norm.

I like both of these, but here's another concept:
The proposed 5th perk slot could be a restricted slot containing one of the character's teachables. From level 1-24 it's tier 1, from 25-49 it's tier 2, and at level 50 it reaches tier 3. Perhaps you start with the level 30 teachable, upon reaching p1 it switches to the level 35 teachable, at p2 it switches to the level 40 teachable, and at p3 you get to choose the teachable.
Personally I think it adds more value to the prestige system rather than increased odds for rares and some bloody clothes.
I like the idea, but they'd have to change how prestige works a bit to get me interested.
I've never prestiged a character because of how much of a slog it is to get them back. Tbf, part of that is because I play dbd on three different platforms so splitting my time has a huge effect on me personally.
But the rewards of cosmetic and clout haven't been enough to make me bite yet. 🤔

I honestly don’t think this would matter much considering core builds include things like inner strength self care adrenaline to name a few that really don’t matter what tier it is like I’d have ds 3 inner strength 3 adrenaline 2 and self care 1 and it really wouldn’t change anything
That's fair. I didn't really consider that a lot of the perks don't change significantly between levels.

That actually sounds quite fun! It would take time to figure out what works best with what. But hey I'm willing to spend extra time for some fun builds
I just like the idea of immediate counterplay, since right now perk countering is very abstract.
So you get a noed this game? You can play ASSUMING you'll get it next game, but that's pure luck.
Or they lucky dip purple flashlights? Woulda been nice to have Franklin's, too bad bud. :/
But if you could trash one perk for another, suddenly the game becomes dynamic in that regard.
Though I bet everyone would just have DS and BT and NOED in the chamber, lol.
-
@Slendy4321 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/181012/remove-teachables
Now this is just my way of thinking but why not add a 5th locked perk to every character in the game so that they're not just reskins. It could be the same for killer so that you still can freely choose 4 perks but you could also have a perk with a benefit and also a consequence. Just my thought tho
Either a fifth locked perk OR a 5th & 6th slot. But with a catch:
You want your 5th or 6th slot? You have to trade out one of your first 4. And you can only do it once per trial. (And not while the perks in cool down or something.)
That could be fun for killer or survivor. Basically add a mini-deckbuilding mechanic to allow some actual instant counterplay.
-
New Dynamic Perk Rules:
Level 3 perks: you get 2
Level 2 perks: you get 1
Level 1 perks: you get 1
You fill the slots in 3-2-1-3 order. If you swap a 2 to a 3 it becomes level 3 and vice versa.
You want the best perks? You gotta decide which ones are stronger in your build, and which ones take a hit.
Could be a fun way to nerd perks without nerf-nerfing them. And give you a little strategy on your surv build.
I know I get kinda bored with em and just basically run one or two. But some cheese juggling would be fun.

Another trick: reverse quick switch. 4 survivors equip items. Then last second switch to no item. Killer most Likely is going to waste perkslots with lightborn or Franklin's or waste a mori.
A Mori is never wasted. 😎👍
-
I didn't realize it was altered. But, regardless, I think Franklin's is one of, if not my #1, favorite killer perk.
It's won me a fair few games because survivors get greedy. lol
Survivor side it doesn't bother me too much because I rarely get utility out of my items. Like, I'm turds at flashlights, I use my toolboxes 30 seconds in, and medkits go quick.
Plus I die like 85% of the time anyway 😬😬😬 (I'm a bad survivor, lol)

I was surprised how clutch Plunderer can be for survivors. I ran it for a little while and had a couple situations where I was either able to get a much need high-end med kit while injured, or a toolbox for multiple gens, or a key when I was last on the map. I have played for a long time and only recently have I actually run that perk. Idk that I'd consider it part of my main build, but It was a nice change.
Plunderers in actually one of my favorite surv perks too. It's the Skinner box thing lol. Push button --> happy light go on.
But yeah, having a clutch medkit or key is awesome. I'm waiting for all my Franklin's karma to come up when I run it now, haha.
-
I think a big issue with player perception right now is that stated goals/playstyles (as set by the devs) and perceived goals/playstyles (as assumed by the players) don't line up with the apparent dominant strategies.
Survs will feel like they win if they escape. So they'll gen rush. The most effective means to that end.
Killers will feel like they win if they 4k, so they camp, tunnel, and slug. Again, the most effective means to that end.
The dissonance that occurs between these adopted playstyles and the playstyles the devs want to encourage is what I believe creates a lot of the frustration we see from community members.
-
Well it's barely been two and half months yet. Compared with the length of time old ruin was up, that's not very much.
I'm sure data has been gathered thus far. But is it representative? Maybe. But I wouldn't find it odd if they'd wanna run collections in the background for longer than ten weeks. And maybe test a few things out BTS before making public statements.
Given our track record of nuanced understanding and conversation in this community.

I did not know that that existed. But now that I do, it would be an awesome addition to the game. Not only as a learning tool, but an awesome addition for any streamer who wants to add a level of depth to their play VODs.
