But how does NOED reward bad plays? The game obviously isn't over just because the last generator popped, the killer isn't being given a "get out of loss free" card, so how does NOED reward bad plays?

As a survivor it feels really, really bad to run a killer for 3-5 gens (a skillful play) and have the game taken from you because, after a long run, the killer finally got their lucky hit.

The folks calling that a free win are likely inarticulate, or upset. The large amount of pressure for lowered opportunity cost is what makes the perk feel bad to be hit with.

By the same token, I believe your insistence on not understanding the various, top-level arguments on this topic disingenuous, and I believe you asked this question in bad faith.

This is honestly just a rant, so I apologize, but ######### is this bullsh*t? I took a break from DBD for a long while and I just had my first match on that map.

Does it get easier to memorize or??? Holy balls. I couldn’t figure out where to go and chases were an absolute headache. I spent the whole time getting turned around & at the end decided to just open the doors for the survivors lmaooo.

It's actually quite easy to get a sense of the map as a survivor after you play it a few times. It's definitely different, and leads to slower games, but it's an interesting map with more depth than the initial frustration leads you to believe.

Ive played it a little less as killer, and the FPS view makes it a little claustrophobic, but I have to imagine that would also fade with time.

I don't think it's a S tier, but I'd give it a solid B, with flaws, for being different than just a flat map or a big cube.

  • Well, ideally, if they're not exploiting the unfair bits of the mechanics, they won't be affected. Right now the only thing that stops unsavory behavior is basically a gentlemens agreement. Most folks just wanna codify it.

  • @Thatgurl_again said:

I have said this before and I'll say it again. Ds is fine but what is not fine is how people use it. The abusers is the problem

    Well, yeah, duh. Lol

These discussions are usually about how to keep the effect the same, and eliminate exploitable mechanics.

Since we have folks who -WILL- abuse it, it helps to make abusing it too inconvenient to do.

    Why?

What was good enough to make you spend the money on it. And if you are willing how much have you spent on cosmetics in total?

I'm curious because it seems that BHVR keeps adding more and more cosmetics but I have only bought 1 and have gotten 1 battle pass in the past.

I wanted robotnik david. Also, I literally play every day and have tons of fun. Giving BHVR an extra $10 for the pass was a nice way to have more goals and support the game.

I've only ever bought cosmetics during sales. Same logic though. I play a lot, I can kick in a few bucks to keep the lights on.

Oh, you misunderstand. You get to punish the killer EVERY TIME THEY TUNNEL. The haste is kind of an afterthought, but that is a nice idea

Eh, that just seems like an unnecessaryily surv sided design choice. A one and done stun, possibly from each member of my team, isn't a tool to help us play better, it's a way to bully and be invulnerable off the hook.

The strike is decisive. Make yo decision. Make it count. You only get one. Etc...

And if they tunnel? Get better at chases? You'll probably lose them alot, but playing is better than not playing usually.

  • That's not a bad idea if they leave the timer long enough to heal. Can you take a hit 'officially' if the hit puts you to the ground?

  • @MythMage said:

Decisive Strike activates each time you are unhooked.

While Decisive Strike is active and you are picked up by the killer, you immediately stun the killer for 5 seconds, gain a 7% Haste status effect for 20 seconds, and become the Obsession.

Decisive Strike is disabled if any of the following happen:

-You begin working on a generator or an exit gate

    -You begin cleansing a totem

-You heal or are healed by another survivor for one health state

    -You unhook another survivor

Increases your chances of being the Killer's Obsession.

The Killer can only be obsessed with one survivor at a time.

Post this on another DS thread. This is undeniably the best direction for DS

Edit: Notice: no timer, no skillcheck

I'd agree except for the "whenever you're unhooked" part. It's fine as a one time get out of jail free, still very strong. (Oh, and maybe drop the haste to 7 seconds, then it's a double m1-boost)

The idea of killing the timer when you take a progressive action, or the killer commits to another player is about as perfect as I think we're gonna get, and I hope that's the direction new eventually go.

  • @HarleyQuinn said:

Undying is annoying. Especially with killers who run ruin or NOED. “Just do bones,” they say. Well it’s kinda tough when killers come right over to a totem they see being worked on. And not to mention by the time all totems are found, it’s wasted a lot of time & gens aren’t being completed.

If they removed the aura reading, I'd be fine with leaving it as it is. That little bit of extra info is too high value to be a BOGO.

  • @Skycerer said:

    Protip: Do gens.

Ruin is useless while u working the gen.

I mean...this is snarky but it's actually legit.

My first reaction when the gen fizzles isn't "gotta get ruin" it's "fuch, guess I'm here now."

Which does lead to riskier greed plays, but once you do it a dozen times youre like "okay, I'm not gonna get this whole gen done, but if I can get it to 70-80, and win my chase, I can sneak back, and then...."

Which, honestly, isn't awful. But it does suck if you and your team can't establish enough of a repair buffer to make those plays. Then the game just becomes "How long can I make the killer chase me to earn that kill, lol"

  • @White_Owl said:

I disagree. Chases are the core of the game, simply because it's in chases that there is interaction between players. As a survivor I prefer stealth over chases, but still a match without at least a good chase is a boring one. Not to talk about the killer pov, spending a lot of time trying to find someone to chase (= to play with) is extremely boring.

It's silly, but I really do love (and try to reinforce) the idea that we all just really want to play together.

Were humans and we never outgrow that, we just get cooler toys.

  • @Alphaphalt said:

And before salty survivor players come in here and try to Hour shame me, I have 2.8k hours with a roughly 50/50 split :DD

I mean...no shame...but your argument is shaky at best.

I love hiding. It's the ultimate "I outwitted you, nyah nyah"...

But you want to take away the part of the game where you....run away from the giant murder monster. In favor of a game where survivors sit in one spot so you can get cool slow kills?

Disregarding that a good chase is the most exciting thing ever, lol, this sounds less like a thoughtful examination of the state of the game and more like proposing an idea that you hope someone repeats back, so it feels validating.

Either troll...or, maybe not as ahead of the curve as you think.

Could be an interesting addition to Pig's RBTs. No more choice, you have a bear trap on, it's time to remove it.

That wouldn't be terrible if they reworked the keybox spawns so they're a little less RNG heavy.

Like, RBTs now are just a hassle if you get a hat before 3 gens pop. It'd be nice if they were SCARY but not unfun as a side effect. 🤔

"The Hardcore Base of dbd is in the minority" - When you are literally going back to back against these players on the few Killers you primarily play - then they are deffiently not the "minority". Like why don't you go waste someone elses time and lie in some other thread?

The game is currently facing terrible survivor que times because the Killers are all still leaving the game - it's no fun for them. There's no point for them to keep playing just for the other players amusement. Go soak your head, before coming to be toxic in my thread.

That was a reply to a discussion about balancing the game with a weight toward high ranks. That's why I swapped it.

Here I was making fun of you for being a jerk. At least get my lies right, homie. :D

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1734808#Comment_1734808

Wanna throw statistics at me like that, because many people have games back to back to back of straight Key's, and/or finding key's in the chest. Litterally you can take 1 perk and guarentee you're getting at least 1 key out of 2 chests.

Honeslty maybe we should just keep this thread up as "How many dismissive comments can we come up with, so that the Dev's never actually make playing Killer fun and rewarding"

I think maybe you should sit in the corner until you can post without being outright mean.

If you just wanna be gassed up for your bad game, not have a back and forth, maybe you should take a break until you can be polite?

    Ferrari?!

Lol, yeah I completely forgot how much of a “luxury” gaming experience it is to have frequent FPS drops and performance stutter.

Perspective, man. Glibness aside, a games service that works perfectly fine 98% of the time is the dang future.

It ain't perfect, but getting bent out of shape over dropped frames and ray tracing is gettin up their when we start talking about first world windmills.

    So we don't get a ps5 super performance boost....wooo?

  • This is like being mad your perfectly good ferrari doesn't become a super ferrari when you put new tires on...

  • This place is weird. You guys is weird.

  • Yeah, basically. Cujo or the GreatValu™ equivalent.

If the 18 killer doesn't use smell or sight in any special way a big dog would be a fun way to go for it

Players of DBD will forever limit their ability to grow and get better at this game if one cannot look beneath the surface of most of this game’s mechanics by embracing some abstract thinking, broad thinking, and insight into the nuances of BOTH roles in this game.

As @Orion summarised briefly in their recent post, when something usually isn’t giving the commonly expected effect, is usually when it’s giving its BEST effect. Thinking/anticipating how your load out alters your opponents behaviour is key.

I’ll throw around some examples here that Orion didn’t use, so you can better understand the train of thought.

Dragon’s Grip - If it never (or rarely) gives off a notification, guess what? It means survivors are allowing a gen (or gens) to regress for at LEAST half a minute without being touched (or some survivors have calm spirit). That’s HUGE. So even when the perk seemingly has “no effect” anymore, it in fact DOES have an effect in making survivors paranoid about touching regressing gens (particularly on high mobility killers).

NOED - just say you got to endgame and your NOED DOESN’T activate. This tells you the survivors spent considerable time searching out every totem before popping the last gen. This may still not feel great, but with the survivors having spent that time doing so, you probably got downs/hooks/pressure before that point that you may not have been able to achieve had it not been for the extra time the survivors spent searching for totems.

Any Hex Perk - pretty much the same as above. So many killers lament how quickly some Hexes get cleansed, and playing the match with less perks. Guess what? Perks don’t win you matches. Your skill, wit, and a combination of how quickly you end chases and how distracted you keep the other survivors OUT of a chase are what determine if you win or not. So a cleansed Hex STILL provides YOU a benefit: at least ONE survivor floundering around hunting for that hex totem.

I’m not going to on and on with an extensive list of perks or add ons.

The point is that usually when something no longer has an effect is actually giving you the BEST effect if you’re smart enough to understand the opponents altered behavior and then think about how you USE that information.

Edit: damn auto correct. What the hell is “Clam Spirit”?!

Clam Spirit: you have an affinity for the shallow ones. Soft burbling noises and water spit are increased by 100% at all times.

  • I don't think lagswitching works with ded servers. I think it's just latency or something.

As a killer who sees this constantly, why do you feel the need to wait for the killer? Why can't you just leave and let us all move on to the next game? I really don't see this huge need for the survivors to need their hand held for 4 minutes to leave. Especially when a killer just got bulldozed over and really doesn't want to have people rub it in further.

I'll usually give a last hit, or leave my item as a thank you. Especially with cross platform and the lack of chat.

Some of us survs like to be good boys.

It can be done, they just need to lay off new content for once and focus on the game's health, and implement a practice mode while they're at it.

That's the thing though, they might not be able to get bots functional in the base game as readily as mobile. Since mobile is new, mostly ground up I'd assume, and likely built with scalability in mind in a way that wasn't realistic for early days dbd.

Like, maybe they want bots but as the game is now bots won't work? Or maybe the task is a lot bigger than we assume. Well have to see how it goes, given enough demand from the community.

  • After watching his video I thought about that. Bot mode would be amazing....but can it be feasibly implemented in base dbd?

We all know how cobbled together the game is, it was made years ago and bhvr has just, as naturally happens, become more capable in what they CAN do, but they're hobbled by the weight of what they weren't seasoned enough to accomplish when they first made the game.

Some of these big systemic changes we want...would they require complete overhauls? If they aren't required...would they be the best way to have most control?

Would there need to be a sequel to justify the work? Or could we literally just have a complete rebuild to serve as a "sequel".

Dbd's a little weird like that. It got bigger than it was meant to, and now it's kind of trapped by itself in some regards.

    Fucjin love it tho, lol.

  • Actually, now that I think about it I saw someone mention that as a PC killer they see survivors who look back less frequently. They hypothesized that this was because they're using a gamepad.

This might actually have more of a knock on effect than I would have imagined. It's not a stretch to assume that players with a less agile and precise camera would develop a playstyle that works around that.

While PC survs with MKb have their hyper precise camera controls and can play to that strength.

Dunno how much weight there is there, but it's interesting. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • As a primarily console survivor playing more on PC lately, I've noticed that I play more stealthily and patiently than similarly ranked PC players.

Not that one's better or worse, I'm just more likely to sneak and hide. And they're more likely to run and loop.

  • @TheWarNung said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1707037#Comment_1707037

Ah got ya. I'm guessing it's 4 WGLF and the full menagerie of healing perks.

In that case, in order to use this strategy they'll have to group up and all play together. This is always a blessing for the killer. Survivors who split up are always scarier than survivors who try to squad up and run as a pack.

Spread out the damage. Take advantage of their playstyle. Get as many injures as possible. Slug liberally and get multiple slugs going at once. I don't like to camp or recommend other people camp, but if every survivor is clustering around the hook then it's not really camping, now is it?

I haven't seen anyone trying out this combo but if it's anything like the For The People/WGLF/Soul Guard combo I've been seeing a lot of they're basically gift wrapping the game for you so they can meme around. Enjoy your present.

Haha, yeah, gift in disguise. That's what I was trying to reassure OP. That the tech basically counters itself because it's for the memes. :P

  • @TheWarNung said:

Is this the one about healing o the ground with WGLF? Because if they're using it you could just not slug.

If it's just really fast heals you could counter it with a killer with insta-downs. Or an addon that gives you insta-downs. Or a perk that gives you insta-downs. Or Plague. Or Legion/Deathslinger's Deep Wound status, which isn't affected by healing buffs. Or Nurse, who gives no s**ts about survivors trying to quickly heal on the other side of a pallet/window.

A player, Ayrun, made a video showing a silly combo that lets a team of three pick a fourth off the ground faster than the killer can clean their weapon.

It's cool, and fun, but kinda broken. But I was saying up top it seems to need so much effort to work it's only worth it for the memes.

  • @Unironicalygoth said:

Haha this is true I notice too that they usually end up bleeding out cause the constant slugging!

Yeah, it just seems like a good bit of fun that everyone will get sick of once the shine wears off, lol.

  • Farm them? lol

I watched video, I think I'm thinking of the right one, and while it's kinda nutty it seems like you need a lot of effort to make it it's worst.

Kinda like Otz's autodidact build. When it works it's awesome, but you have to change your entire play style and ignore objectives to make it work.

So you probably don't need a hard counter, since the effort-payoft ratio is probably wonky enough to deter people after a couple meme games.

If that fails? Ebony Mori. 😎👍

This is the attitude that lets stuff like this event happen

But..."happen" is so dramatic. What this all boils down to is folks not liking the quantity/quality of event luxury items.

It's reasonable to be irritated...but to push the needle past irritated into borderline boycott and righteous indignation is supremely silly.

If you don't want it, don't like it, don't need it: don't buy it. That's all. If that happens enough, the profit incentivized business that we treat like billy locked in the basement will notice lol.

    Tl;dr- chill bro, they're pixels.

  • @BigTimeGamer said:

Seriously, have you all never played the previous events? Before, you have alternate objectives such as gathering serum which could then be spent on cosmetics. Now, you have 3x Rift challenges that allow to get a measly 4k BP, and that's it aside from pumpkin gens and hooks. Replacing a fun, engaging event currency with a credit card is disgusting, and BHVR knew full-well what they were doing when they made it. This "apology" is just a response to attempt to appease people when their shot at skimming players for more money didn't fully pan out.

This is the same thing with Sets, they started out slow and continued to ramp them up when they saw they were profitable, if people happily accept a few shards and BP as compensation for the gutting of a previously enjoyable time, then the game will continue to deteriorate into a MTX hellscape.

This is a horror-esque game, yet COD and WoW have better Halloween events than it.

btw this is a company that rakes in money off of skins and the rift already, they aren't some 4 man dev team that deserves to be treated like Jesus Christ himself.

I don't get why so many players get bent out of shape when a business sells them more optional products for their already paid for product.

You aren't required to buy cosmetics to enjoy the game. We don't -need- extra mechanics to have the fun we already enjoy.

So we got a lackluster freebie this year? Big deal, lol. 2020 has had way worse problems than our collective BPS budget. 🤣

Along with this is terror radius music is really quiet so you only really start noticing an intense terror radius at about 12m. I would suggest to run MnA to get full value out of this.

Lol, that sneaky CTA at the end. I mean, it's obvs a bug and will probably go away in a nearby hotfix.

Although, Frank opens the box he only brings people to the box to try and control it. Pinhead on the other hand relishes in killing and torturing people. His hook chains could be traps, hold people like Pyramid head's cages. I feel like the cenobites are much better killers. Pinhead obviously the leader of the Cenobites.

But Frank would be such a great M1 brute~ 😍 Or very possibly a stealth killer oddly enough...🤔

He could have some sort of power based around his propensity for turning people into horrible dry husks, lol.

(EDIT: I forgot about his time as a murder-tadpole. He could be a size changing killer. Start the match as scrappy horrible frank, and morph into hulking monster frank by killing. Go from a power heavy stealth babbo, to a big punch and crush machine after a kill. 🤔)

I know he's not as recognizable, but I think it'd be fun.

  • I will always vote Frank Cotton over pinhead. (He's the guy who opens the box, pinhead is just the face we all know.)

But on a more general note, I'd love to see a quadrupedal killer. Like a giant dog or predatory animal. A killer that moves and attacks differently would be awesome.

Maybe something with a full-body jump, so you could have ranged attacks at the expense of accuracy. Like, letting nurse and huntress have a baby, lol.

  • I recorded a few games last night as bubba, and I felt that I probably shouldnt have gotten a good...20% of my hits? I know they're tweaking it and I wanna compare later because good hits feel RIGHT and bad hits feel waaaay off.

  • When in doubt (death impending) always boop the snoot.
