Well just some friendly advice: you should refrain calling people slurs or thinking they are terrible for thinking a certain way. Different cultures breed different values and morals. Trying to force a way of thinking on someone has been attempted in the past...and even many nazis believed they were morally right at the time. It's a dangerous way of thinking and I hate to see anyone go down that path. Also before you say anything, no, I wasn't talking about what you said to me. Just some advice from someone who would see you be a good person. Cheers.

Oh also one thing I forgot.

If a culture exists to explicitly exclude specific types of people for nothing more than a biological trait they cannot control, then this culture is inherently flawed. Even if it's what they believe if right, its still flawed. To use your example of the Nazis (bit extreme but I'll roll), they believed they were right but nobody else would say they were from an objective perspective.

It's like you're asking me to respect the Nazis as it was just part of their culture which, no thank you, I'm good.

Unless I completely missed the mark in which case do correct me, please.

Honestly, in the US, even where I live out in the country, people don't care.

You might get some jokes, or some questions, but nobody ever really comments negatively on it.

Hell, even at my private Christian school (it was the best school in the area and my parents had grown up poor so they wanted the best) half of the football team was openly gay for each other and nobody really said anything about it.

A shame it isn't the same where you live.

If I'm being honest it's mostly the adults. One of my besties at college is Christian and when I told her someone asked me out she literally screamed in excitement lmao

I am a bit curious about that last paragraph, by any chance do you not live in a western country?

No, I do. Europe, to be precise.

For me, it's more the social stigma. Jfc people are absurd when it comes to "OH MY GOD YOU'RE ######### A GUY" when if it was a girl they'd be fine with it.

I'm well aware, though, that it's perfectly legal where I live. Under the law there's no issues.

Many others do not have this luxury and they need representation in their culture even more than I do.

Pretty arrogant of you to think you know anything about me don't you think? You throw around trash terms like "homophobic" because it's a terrible way to say someone else's way of thinking is irrelevant and should be ignored. A bit hateful, arrogant and discriminatory wouldn't you say? Maybe I'm just tired of reading the same boring stuff over and over.

That's, not what I was getting at. At all. In the slightest. I didn't call you explicitly homophobic nor do I believe you to be.

"Just, have lgbtq+ relationships represented in the same degree and most people are happy. If you're not happy with that one you're either far too demanding or homophobic, cause we just want equality in representation."

I was saying that if you aren't happy with equality in representation with straight people, you're either really entitled or homophobic. I didn't say you specifically were, I was talking to a group of people who may or may not exist in this thread and may or may not read it.

I'm sorry if my point was unclear, just know I didn't mean to insult you in any way.

"Maybe I'm just tired of reading the same boring stuff over and over."

So am I, trust me. Coming up to 3 years and I see the same discussions every day, at leas the Forum Representation Wars™ are only like 4 times a year instead of daily.

But know what I'm also tired of? Not being represented in lots of media and having people decide what I can and cannot do in private behind closed doors with complete consent.

Edit: be it legally (not me) or be it just through others around me deciding it's right or wrong (applies to me) but having no actual sway.

👀 not really but thanks for taking the bullet I guess. I just skim read most the walls.

I dont beleive in what you are saying because that way of thinking just leads to peoples opinions being dismissed and causing an echo chamber.

Everyone experiences different things, im sure I have had a completley different life to someone of the same sexual orentation and race, so whos opinon should be held more higher?🤷‍♂️

Well i bit the bullet so, ######### it, might as well get shot.

"Everyone experiences different things, im sure I have had a completley different life to someone of the same sexual orentation and race, so whos opinon should be held more higher?"

Out of mine and yours? Neither. We're both gay and so even though we've had different experiences they've allowed us to form our own conclusion on the subject of representation. If, say, it was a trans woman or a cis woman on the subject of representation, or a gay man and a straight man in the subject of gay rights, then imo you should take the opinion of the trans woman/gay man over the cis woman/straight man. They've had to experience the struggles so their opinions should be higher.

But, say, in terms of your fears of it being an echo chamber, yeah I can see where that'd come from. But imho every gay person should have their opinion on gay representation taken with equal value (unless they're literally saying every straight man should be burnt in carpet as retribution for what their ancestors did, in which case lock them up ASAP), with straight people still having an opinion and being allowed to have an opinion, but having said opinion be held with less value (not no value, less value) than that of a gay man.

To use an example earlier, it's like a trained fitness coach vs a coach potato on the subject of healthy living.

To be fair, I don't think anyone liked the Frank and Julie tome.

Which is all the more reason it should never be repeated. For lgbtq+ relationships or not. That... Mistake, let's say, can perish.

  • @HollowsGrief said:

Oh jeez, can we not start this again pleased? This is about as original as the "Spirit nerf" threads. Every character is A sexual and not a single one has any interest in any of the others. There you go now everyone is represented.

Except this isn't the case at all unfortunately. Frank and Julie, for one, as their entire tome was about it, but then also Nurse, David, and Felix in their own lore to a much lesser extent.

Just, have lgbtq+ relationships represented in the same degree and most people are happy. If you're not happy with that one you're either far too demanding or homophobic, cause we just want equality in representation.

  • @Itooshie said:

I have not read these giant walls of text debates. But here's my 2 cents.

    - I'm a homo, that is specifically, Asexual Gay Man.

    - Person of Ethnic Decent

I never feel this burning desire to be represented in media I consume, be it literature, gaming or visual media *Anime, TV, Movies

All I ask is that if we get a Queer character, let it not be a token. The backstory should not be revolved around their sexuality, it should just be a nice detail weaved into their life, not the defining characteristic of their personality.

A character like that, would make me happy. Thats what would represent me, a person that has many interests and hobbies that also happens to be gay. Its not hard, its not something that needs a big debate and its not something that will end the DBD world.

🤷‍♂️ Me being a gay and ethnic minority does not give me more of say/mean I am more right or wrong btw.

A straight white opinion has as much value as mine does if you ask me.

I see that last bit as being indirected towards me 👀

My point there was that if you don't have the experience your opinion shouldn't be held as highly than people who do have the experience, be it on representation or the benefits of eating healthy. If you disagree, cool. That joys of opinions am I right.

Let's just start over. I don't know you, you don't know me, there's no reason for us to be at each other's throats about it. There have obviously been misunderstandings and I would like to dial it back. I have nothing personal against you.

I came in with an opinion already quite well-formed from other walks of life, NOT this forum, and in doing so I likely came across as more combative than I intended to. I stand by my philosophy, but it appears as if this wasn't the proper time and venue in which to express it the way that I did.

I became more irritated as multiple arguments against me basically skipped past what I was trying to say and instead focused on the mere fact that I was in any way disagreeing, and yes, I was (and still am) absolutely incensed that I was called a homophobe. I take GREAT offense to that for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that I didn't intentionally insult anybody for having the views that they did. I never called anyone a lesser person, a hateful person, a "wrong" person, for having beliefs that differed than mine. And the funny thing is that our beliefs don't even differ. The only thing that differs is the way in which they're argued. Some see it as a kind request, others see it as an entitled demand. My point is that I see the latter far, FAR too often. And not just about sexuality, about EVERYTHING. I've been on this Earth for 43 years and this is the most miserably tribal political landscape I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Everyone has to argue. Everyone has to hate. Everyone else is the enemy.

I'm not saying that this describes you specifically. I didn't mean for it to be taken that way.

I agree, we should start over. Hey, I'm GoodBoyKaru (or Karu_TC if it's easier)! Nice to meet you Mike- I can call you Mike, right?

I think we're arguing for the same thing done in the same way, so allow me to gain your trust with a picture of a small koala

    received_1450289808670612.jpeg

Edit: yeah I hope I didn't come across as too confrontational when I started, idk if you could tell but it's kinda an important topic to me lol

  • Being gay is gross? Or trans?

Like, @miketheratguy was called homophobic earlier but I think this is an actual homophobic statement unless I'm reading it wrong.

In which case, if it is homophobic/transphobic, uh... Don't, I guess?

  • @Pulsar said:

Now that is another can of worms. Funnily enough, just the other day one of my black friends who I went to school with (his name is Hunter and he is studying medicine). He sat me down and told me all about the Tuskegee Study and used it as a reason why he'll wait to get a vaccine.

I have complicated feelings about LGBTQ and the community, but I doubt anyone would ever want to hear about it, so I try to be neutral and supportive.

Honestly being neutral and supportive is all most of us (and by most of us I mean the good people because let's face it every community ever in the history of existence has had some bad people in it) really could ask for.

  • Maybe not an entire event but a couple of cosmetics/charms I'd be down for.

I prefer keeping things, like, optional, if that makes sense. Like, you can play as David King in the bi-flag facepaint with the mlm flag on your waist as a charm, or you could not do it because you don't really care about it.

Did they say that were excluded out of the intentional desire to do so because they didn't like the idea, or did they say that they were excluded because it just wasn't something that they happened to think about? There's a big difference.

Uh, word for word it's this:

    Screenshot_20210504_094514.jpg

Which can obviously be taken whatever way you want. I like to take it as a "We forgot about you guys, our bad, we've changed our plans you're gonna be included as well". Other people could see it as more malicious, of course.

Like I said, I'm really bad with words so my point probably didn't come across as I wanted it to

    I suppose that makes sense.

So it would be like someone without a medical background talking about performing surgery versus someone with a medical background talking about performing surgery?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160179#Comment_2160179

Yes, As a straight while male I have been represented and "included" in most walks of life. You're not incorrect about this. Implying that this is somehow a wrong that I should be held responsible for, as some of the rhetoric in this thread has done, isn't quite fair.

Let me be perfectly clear here: I have nothing, NOTHING against gays, trans, or anyone else who is not straight. If any of you actually knew me you wouldn't be saying half the things that you are. It's not your obligation to understand, nor my obligation to explain. But the fact is that I don't care if the game has gays, Muslims, Democrats, Republicans, Christians, Atheists, etc etc etc etc etc etc.

The only person I've seen here who seems to have an objective and neutral understanding of this discussion is Pulsar. My argument can be summarized in one sentence, which he did very eloquently (and I paraphrase) : I have nothing against certain types of characters being in this game. I just don't want them there to check boxes.

As for the comment that I am homophobic, based on nothing about me other than the argument that I don't agree with using aggression and insults to shame someone into "diversity" and "inclusion" (a comment which I see has been deleted, by the way), that was absolutely uncalled for. Tell me: Did I use the "f" word to describe any of you, simply because I didn't like the points I thought YOU were making?

"Yes, As a straight while male I have been represented and "included" in most walks of life. You're not incorrect about this. Implying that this is somehow a wrong that I should be held responsible for, as some of the rhetoric in this thread has done, isn't quite fair."

I wasn't trying to blame you for it! Oh my God, I'm so sorry if it came across like that, it really wasn't my intention! I'm really, really not good with words, and again I'm really sorry!

It's not that it's wrong and you should be responsible for it, it's moreso that if you don't go through a struggle your opinion on something should be taken with less value, if that makes sense?? I'm not trying to say "Meh, you didn't go through this so I'm morally superior" or anything like that, I don't wanna make an Oppression Olympics.

"But the fact is that I don't care if the game has gays, Muslims, Democrats, Republicans, Christians, Atheists, etc etc etc etc etc etc."

If you don't care, great. Let the people who do, for either side, have the discussions because if you truly don't care you'll just vibe on the sidelines (until you do, which from your next point is if they're just used to tick boxes).

"The only person I've seen here who seems to have an objective and neutral understanding of this discussion is Pulsar. My argument can be summarized in one sentence, which he did very eloquently (and I paraphrase) : I have nothing against certain types of characters being in this game. I just don't want them there to check boxes."

But we've seen how BHVR have handled straight relationships in the lore- for the most part subtly. Felix gets one line. David gets one word. Nurse has a couple of entries but it's still on her and her descent into madness. We don't talk about the Frank and Julie tome, like, ever.

+ with the CryptTV skins they've just ticked the boxes. Technically. So they wouldn't have to do anything else, I just hope they will. And that they'll do it right, which I think we're agreeing upon wanting it done right yet arguing with each other on it??

"As for the comment that I am homophobic, based on nothing about me other than the argument that I don't agree with using aggression and insults to shame someone into "diversity" and "inclusion" (a comment which I see has been deleted, by the way), that was absolutely uncalled for. Tell me: Did I use the "f" word to describe any of you, simply because I didn't like the points I thought YOU were making?"

I have a feeling this comment is more directed at the thread than at me so I'll leave this as my only answer to it

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160187#Comment_2160187

I know what you are getting at, but something rubs me the wrong way about that.

Isn't excluding people based off of things they can't control how we ended up in this situation to begin with?

    It's- not really the same.

It's like excluding white people from having an opinion on black struggles.

It's like excluding men from having opinions on what you can/can't do with your body if you're a woman.

It's like excluding, forgive the extreme example, someone who's never been sexually assaulted from the discussion of #########.

Your opinions can still be valid but honestly they don't hold as much sway as the people who actually experience things.

Black people have a much bigger voice on black struggles because they go through them. Women have a much bigger voice on women's struggles because they go through them, etc.

If you've been represented by default your entire life, you don't really get an opinion on why it's important. You can still talk about it, but your opinion should be held with a lot less importance than, say, trans women on the topic of representing trans women.

Which isn't the same as just point blank excluding lgbtq+ people from the game, which is what bhvr admitted to doing.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160183#Comment_2160183

And I think that's how it should be. I don't think many people will have an issue with that.

And that's all we ask for yet people will still take so much issue with the mere concept of lgbtq+ representation

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160179#Comment_2160179

I don't know if saying people's opinions don't matter based off of their sexuality and skin color is a great idea. I see what you meant, but that doesn't sound right to me.

I couldn't think of a way to word it better, unfortunately.

Basically if you've been represented almost all your life you don't get a say on why we should or shouldn't have representation, especially if you have it by default.

That's what I'm trying to get at if that makes sense??

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160176#Comment_2160176

I have zero knowledge on CryptTV so, I'll take your word for it.

I was also more referring to original Survivors less so than Killers.

Well, now that pre-established lgbtq+ characters will exist they probably won't be there to be a token but just, something like, instead of "He can't go to his ex, she doesn't want to see his face again" to "He can't go to his ex, he doesn't want to see hsi face again".

Bam, representation, it's a subtle detail, everyone is happy. Except the homophobes.

Look at how Apex does it. Their newest character, it's a throwaway line ("She has her women") & that's it. That's all people ask for- equal treatment to what heterosexual relationships have been like.

Cause despite being a skin they're technically legendary cosmetics so a completely different character

  • @miketheratguy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160107#Comment_2160107

Ah. I see. I get "special treatment" because I'm a straight white male, and the only way to change that is to force the game to have an equal amount of everything else. As I said, identity politics and forced diversity. Next time you see me demanding more straight white males, gimme a call.

This is going in a very unpleasant direction. I can't believe that I'm unable to even play a game where killers stalk survivors without having to be lectured about privilege. Be who you want. Celebrate who you are. If you're LBGT, cool. If you're a hardcore Libertarian, cool. If you're a black woman in a wheelchair, cool. But quit making demands of everyone else to cater to your specific identities under the umbrella of "diversity" and "tolerance". This goes for gays, straights, whites, blacks, men, women, everyone. It's a ######### video game. Be happy that exists, play it, and leave politics at the door. This isn't a world demographics simulator.

I'm leaving the discussion now before it gets worse.

I mean no offence but as a straight, white male you've been represented almost all, if not all, of your life, so it'll be difficult to get why representation is important. Just know that it's not a political agenda, it's a biological fact of people's lives.

And, honestly, I mean this in the nicest possible way but your opinion doesn't hold much sway in this discussion for the facts mentioned above. Because you've been represented your entire life.

Edit: THIS SOUNDS SUPER SHADY I'M SORRY!! I'm really bad at wording things.

Basically what I'm trying to say is if you don't have experience with something your opinion should be held with less importance than those with the experience. PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY 😭

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160136#Comment_2160136

It is a sentiment being thrown around, see the comment above mine.

I, personally, don't think sexuality has any place in a game about killing people and escaping a malicious god. It never should've been mentioned. It was though, and we can't exactly change that.

The thing I fear the most is BHVR adding in token representation, where the character only exists to check a box. I hope they don't do that, but I've seen it happen a lot.

Additionally, I've been called a racist by quite a few people because I "clearly targeted them using a Killer known for being racist." Considering the current climate of the world, those are dangerous accusations to be throwing at people, and I suspect adding in LGBTQ representation will make that worse. I don't think that should dissuade BHVR from adding in representation, but it is something to think on.

Ultimately, as long as it is done tastefully, like how Nurse's backstory/husband was done, I have no issue with it at all, and that's all that matters.

Okay so in regards to your fears on token representation see my reply here

So now absolutely nobody can complain that they'd be the "token gay character".

No character should be defined by their sexual orientation. Peoples' personal agendas invade enough of daily life, I like to play video games to get away from them. The Blight may be gay. The Plague may be trans. The Demogorgon may be heavily into amputee porn. I don't care. I don't want to know. It isn't necessary.

I don't want to see a LBQT killer any more than I want to see a BLM killer, a Trump supporter killer, a pro-life killer, a pro-choice killer, a sanctuary city killer, a white supremacist killer, etc etc etc etc etc. I don't want nor need to have divisive modern-day identity politics applied to the characters in my games for the sake of "inclusion" and arbitrary forced "diversity". All I care about is how they were killed and what made the Entity choose them.

People's lives aren't politics. Sexual orientation is biological, so is skin colour. It's not political it's human lives.

Not to be rude or homophobic but... Why? This a game where killers chase survivors before they escape. This is all... pretty strange.

-bhvr have confirmed that they want to add lgbtq+ characters into dbd

-there are many examples of heterosexual relationships already in the game and have been since the very first chapter

-there's 0 examples of lgbtq+ relationships or characters in dbd

-bhvr have explicitly stated they were excluding lgbtq+ characters previously and wish to change that

That's the reason. It may not matter to you but representation actually saves peoples lives.

I'm not even sure what it is, but he will get a nerf with the upcoming patch. I think it has something to do with canceling his power. He might not be able to pull off a simple hit after canceling his power anymore. Even though I play him a lot, I don't even bother reading the patch notes anymore. But if you're interested, you can take a look.

already in the game, was a fix to the 0.2s POTD exploit. it didn't do much, he still feels amazing to play as until you get a 4man w-key squad

I can call you an exorcist, if you want.

Personally I get more demos and pigs than Spirits.

that might be helpful so long as they only take Rin and none of the others- we've actually gotten quite close (and by close I mean we all hate Rin).

Well come join me in California and sweat because of the heat instead of spirits.

I literally changed my display name to "play Spirit" and still nothing.

come to eu servers and you can find some more of them

as well as all the tunneling pigs :(

  • i wish i was blessed enough to be spirit free :(

pallets is a totally different story imo. pallets always been bugging after new releases, I've been playing this game since 2016 and never missed a patch and trust me the amount of times pallets have been bugged it's just countless. I 100% call that a buff. but no, not the chests they have to have adjusted the percentages for them.

im well aware pallets havent been the most consistent of things.

but if they wanted to buff survivors to compensate for the ds change why would they buff chests? they could subtly increase vaulting speed, accidentally re-introduce the wake up bug and suddenly it's basekit for everyone our bad, or give a whole new raft of shadowchanges that would be a lot more subtle than increasing chest luck.

it's only what I think it's not documentated. I find it kinda hard to belive it's a bug when it comes as a buff to survivors right after a big nerf to them in another section . DS

which explains why pallets still don't stun even after an attempted fix, because bhvr wanna shadowbuff them after nerfing ds and will soon nerf ooo.

it's not a bug, they raised the percantages of spawning rarer items right with the DS nerf I think it's a trial but not a bug.

please provide me documentation of where they said this. if it's a shadowbuff, which is seriously doubt cause they know how much that'd piss off every killer player ever, then okay. however, most "changes" are unintentional and, thus, game bugs :)

Only one happens on every single killer match. Killers being petty and watching a survivor die on the floor for 4 minutes is extremely rare, specially because the killer is losing points and pips by not hooking said survivor.

Meanwhile not a single survivor out there doesn't take great pleasure from denying the killer the hook points, even if the survivor wins nothin by just hiding and dying on th floor.

oh no a survivor has used their w key after i left them slugged so i shall now rant about how it happens every single game on the forums

either this is a massive hyperbole or it's time you learned that playing like that has consequences? like playing with 12 hooks or tunneling has consequences, theyre just different ones

  • Napkin without add-ons is arguably the strongest, definitely top 2, killers in DBD.

What've you been on and where can I grab some?

I feel like her being able to see where she is going to teleport shouldn't be a perk but rather a passive of hers. She's just so underpowered and easily looped.

  • We Aren't Gonna Live Forever (but I sure as hell am lasting longer than you).

Grants you the ability to mark one survivor. This survivor is permanently exposed and, if not sacrificed to the Entity within 120/100/80 seconds, will be forcibly disconnected from the trial.

    You are immune from sacrifice.

No one’s complaining about Deathslinger since his ability doesn’t ignore map props

This was made September 2020 when he came out before his nerf

also many, many people complain about slinger

  • honestly no. i think my record with this window is 12 times before the pig gave up chasing me. it's obnoxiously strong and they can have perma-los on you so depending on how tight you take it/they take it it can be a gameloser.

Whether or not your script is clear or well written doesn't change the fact that you will never have 50% of X scrip (let's say X=chest) mix up with Trapper and the other part with Wraith scrip. You can't break hooks by touching Trickster's scrip, they are not related/link in any way shape or form. That's just not how it work.

But by all mean, believe that all and every scrip in DBD is mix together and it's almost impossible to change or add something (because let's be honest, adding or changing a scrip there's not much difference)

If you think this then you clearly don't know how coding works.
