"Problematic" is an understatement, my friend. This meta is extremely bad for the game.
Just like I've said on another thread, survivors don't leave gens because everything else they can do (healing, totems, chases) has suffered with unnecessary changes. To counter that, killers stack slowdown after slowdown.
And in the end, no one has fun.
-
Honestly, none.
The only thing I want regarding maps is a classic pack / mode / anything that can give us access to the old maps again. I miss the visuals, the atmosphere, everything.
I really really want the maps I loved back.

Yes, i would also go slightly further and hide totems a bit better. I know they can do it, totem spawns were not always as god awful as they are now. That would give those useless totem find perks an actual reason to exist.
I agree completely.
For instance, I remember original Badham had an absolutely goated totem spawn which is leagues ahead most totem spawns currently in the game.
Yes, hex perks are easy to fix. It just needs to be done.

Since you are probably talking about old old Ruin - no. This would be the most stupid thing ever. Original Ruin was extremely unhealthy. And since it was paired with PGTW, even more frustrating to go against.
Geez, my friend, don't need to be that aggressive. I'm always respectful to you.
As for the topic in question, agree to disagree I suppose. Because that Ruin was easily my favorite perk in the game, I used it on every killer and I loved seeing it as survivor.
It was perfect: it gave the killer a powerful tool to defend gens while giving survivors a secondary objective. Of course, there is the issue of totem spawns being far too obvious and sometimes the perk didn't last for as long as it should, but that is an easy fix.
The way I see it, and based on my own experience with this game, everyone wins.

Like others have said, older Legion sucked way more than current one. You're point would be much stronger if you didn't even mention him, imo. Easily the worst designed killer they've ever released, aside from maybe SM. All the others, well, I can agree on - Even though Trickster doesn't feel that bad anymore, imo.
I dislike both versions of Sadako.
I dislike both versions of Skull Merchant.
I miss old Freddy, but fear we'll never get him back. The Hillbilly changes... I still don't know what the hell BHVR was on.

Don't lose hope, my friend. Not as long as I am here.

I think the perfect example of what you described and how it would work in DBD is the Hallowed Blight.
Over 2 years ago I even made a small poll here to see which event was everyone's favorite, and that one clearly won. The Hallowed Blight seems to be what an ideal DBD event looks like.

No, the solution is to give survivors something else to do. When Ruin was still meta, survivors would spend a good amount of time, searching the totem. That is downtime survivors don´t spend on gens. We simply need something else apart from gens for survivors to do.
Gas cans, to refill gens have been proposed several times. Its just something else to do than hug gens all match.
The best part is that we already have the solution.
Ruin.
Ruin is the solution. It only needs a reversion.

People have been against MMR for a long long time, going as far back as the old CoD and Halo 2 days when TrueSkill came around.
And it just doesn't work here. I don't think it ever will, actually.
-
Ah, so we were on the same page, then.
Nice!
Anyway, please someone bring this perk back. I need it.

I thought you were talking about OLD old ruin. My bad.
The fact that we've had 4 different versions of Ruin just made this so confusing.
To clarify, I'm talking about this Ruin:
This is the Hex: Ruin that was in the game when I first started playing, and I think it still is my favorite killer perk.
Is it the same Ruin you were thinking of?

I thought it was cool, too. Though you can't not notice that it stomped low mmr lobbies. BHVR's trying to move away from that design.
I was actually talking about the older Ruin, before MMR even existed, but the same principle apply.
That is just the incorrect perk to nerf, you know? Providing a powerful effect for the killer while giving survivors a secondary objective is perfect. And even the lowest of MMR (or Ranks, back then) will eventually learn what they have to do.

The current meta is the 2nd strongest killers have ever had (gen kick being 1st) tied with soloQ being completely unplayable at the moment with people constantly giving up.
I sincerely do not not how any killer player can complain rn outside of them having a skill issue.
My guess? Because it isn't fun.
Nobody likes those games where gens fly and there is little you can do about it. Much less those where people give up and you don't get to play. The way I see it, most players like extended trials where there is time for stuff to happen.
But you cannot ask survivors to not do gens because what else will they do?
Totems? Well, this one is the ideal secondary objective. But Ruin got a rework and a nerf, and Thrill of the Hunt got a nerf. Very few killers use hexes, and the ones who do have no means to protect them.
Healing? Unnecessarily nerfed. I blame CoH for that, a perk that I believe shouldn't exist, and the reluctance to bring Self-Care back to the meta.
Chase? Map reworks messed them up pretty badly. There are deadzones aplenty and those new tiles are awful to run.
Hide? Yeah, this one is viable.
But thats it. Unless the killer is Pig, there is nothing else for survivors to do other than gens. Therefore, gens fly. Killers stack gen slowdown to counter that and no one has fun. Welcome to modern DBD.
This is just my point of view, obviously, but it seems pretty accurate based on what I've seen since returning to the game.

This is the problem with solo queue vs SWF.
Now imagine a killer playing against a SWF squad that is using clock callouts and it feels exactly like this for the killer. The problem is matchmaking in this game is horrible and both sides can do extremely unfun things to the other side that completely make the game miserable to play. And the biggest problem? Is not that those unfun things exist. It is that those unfun things are the most effective way for either side to win. The most boring way to play the game, is also the most effective.
If they instead balanced the game around chases and hooks, instead of kills, made tunneling and camping impossible, and do something for killers to deal with the tools that SWF have you'd have a much more fun game. The ideal "solution" to solo vs SWF is quite simple. Create a ranked queue, that is 4 man SWF only and an unranked queue that is solo and duo only.
Then make balancing the win condition different in each of these modes. Perhaps in the ranked mode, the killer wins if they get a single kill to get a win, or perhaps the survivors move at 95% speed, or some other thing to make chases faster (hopefully not increase gen times). Additionally in the unranked mode, they can make tunneling and camping impossible. Maybe the basekit BT absorbs 2 hits and lasts 30 seconds. Maybe the AFC just teleports them to a different hook like PH.
It doesn't actually matter what changes are made, the point is, they balance the game differently for each queue. And now you can start seeing real change.
The biggest problem and cause of this all though? Is simply MMR. MMR creates a scenario where every single game you have to sweat hard to win. This is "fine" in the sense of, this makes matches more "fair" but the problem with this, is it eliminates all variety and fun of the game itself and because this game is so horribly balanced, it all falls apart. If you want MMR you must have a balanced game, if you don't have a balanced game, you shouldn't have MMR. Like, sure set it up so brand new players aren't playing with people who have 5k hours. But realistically MMR shouldn't really exist with the game in its current state.

What makes this even worse is that, several times, the feedback regarding MMR was negative.
There were warnings the system would cause problems.

Fair enough, I forgot about original BT. I think that'd still be overall worse than the version we have since that version can be used on every unhook and has a secondary effect now, but I did forget about it.
WGLF would just be flat weaker, if you revert it. If you just add the BP gain back, that'd be a buff, but it wouldn't be a reversion either. Same for Remember Me, if you just give it back those extra few seconds but take away the special attack buff, that's overall weaker, and if you keep the special attack buff it's not a reversion.
Fair enough, forget I said reversion for Remember Me and WGLF.
We give Remember Me 30 seconds again and the ability to work with special attacks.
Give WGLF the bloodpoint gains, but don't change the current effect.
And BT can be kept as a reversion because I think the original was a better perk overall, and it would work well if it was brought back to the game.

Wouldn't some of these be nerfs?
WGLF, Remember Me, and Borrowed Time were all buffed iirc. I'm a little less confident on Remember Me, I know it was buffed semi recently but I don't remember if it had a prior version to that which was stronger in some way. WGLF had its BP removed but gained an additional effect, so reverting that is nerfing it, and BT is only not used because it became basekit- the actual effect of the perk was buffed comparative to the way it was before.
Remember Me needs 30 seconds again.
WGLF and BBQ for bloodpoint gains.
And I am actually thinking about the BT that protected both survivors, but can only be used once per trial.

Totems in general need a comeback. COH, Ruin, Thrill can all make a comeback if they made buffed them slightly.
COH I don't know much about, tbh, never liked Boons.
But Ruin and Thrill? Those two suffered unnecessarily.

It doesn’t have to be completely reverted
Hell yes it does! Those are the good stuff, my friend.

-Ruin
-BBQ
-Thrill of the Hunt
-WGLF
-Remember Me
-Decisive Strike
-Self-Care
-Spine Chill
-Balanced Landing
-Iron Will
-Borrowed Time (I swear no one uses it anymore)
And if I've forgotten anything, someone please remind me later.
P.S: I wrote this while listening to Holding Out for a Hero and this felt epic.

As survivor, if I escape then I've won.
As killer:
0k or 1k - defeat
2k - tie
3k or 4k - victory

Technically my favorite map no longer exists, because while it is still in the game the rework ruined it for me.
But even if it is not there anymore, Old Léry's will always be my favorite map DBD had to offer.
I loved the creepy hospital atmosphere, it was so damn good. The map worked quite well with the way I play survivor, and it was excellent for Old Freddy, so I never had anything to complain about.
Good memories, my friend. Good memories.

If you say so, old friend.
I genuinely have no idea. Haven't played her recently and I've only seen her once since I came back to DBD.
-
Yeah, Spirit has fallen from grace. Maybe you can still do well with her, idk, but she is definitely not what she used to be.
And she is indeed pretty rare now, at least in my experience she is as rare as Freddy, and that sure as hell is a sign that something isn't right.
I will never ask for a killer to be fully reworked because of what happened to my precious Freddy, but I do think Spirit could use some reversions. We could go through the older versions of Spirit, see if there are any aspects of her power that can be brought back, or maybe a few add-ons.
Theres gotta be a way to do that without making her overpowered.

You're missing the point... I'm not advising you to swap to another Killer you've played alot. Any killer you've spent time on has its own MMR established. Killers you HAVEN'T tried yet...don't. Their baseline MMR is going to assume you're a little better than a complete newbie.
Ah, now I get it!
Though I don't think there is a killer I haven't tried yet that I am interested in.

Hag doesn't play like Freddy. She's fun, but the skillset you've learned doesn't really transfer. Maybe try Clown... just a suggestion. He's a 115% killer like Freddy who's power can also be used to shut down loops on the go.
No way I'm using Clown again, not after the hell it was to take him to P3.
Freddy and Hag are my favorites, but I'm not sure where in the MMR abyss my Hag is. I'll just have to find out, I suppose.

You ever mix up your killer abit? Each killer tracks a different MMR, so swapping to a different killer you don't normally play can provide a bit of relief as long as their toolkit isn't SUPER unique (Going from Myers to Pig as opposed to going from Myers to Nurse).
Nah, I basically only play Freddy.
If I were to mix up, it would be from Freddy to Hag, I suppose.

Thank you for taking the time to share those concepts and all the love you put into it <3
Having a killer that is fun for both sides is always a win. So its always worth fighting for it. Freddy is currently the only killer with the power (in concept) to drag ppl to another dimension (well, the Entity too but is not playable :P)...and is so underused...the dredge has a faster teleport and a scarier filter (nightfall).
We need Freddy to be more unique to use, a more interactive Dreamworld and fun, yet fair, counters.
Ah, it is a pleasure to share them, my friend <3
Yes, it is worth it. We all need Freddy to improve because his current state is unbearable, both for him and for survivors. There is also the matter of all Old Freddy mains, like me, who lost their killer with that patch 3.1.0
We deserve our killer back. I hope we get him.
-
I don't know what is going on with the matchmaking, but I am constantly getting sent to fight against survivors who are clearly more skilled than I am.
I don't think that is high MMR, but if it is then I don't belong there.
-
I never use Boons, so yeah I don't have it.

@GRIG0 said:
It is truly a pity as a fan of ANoES. Many people here like @GeneralV and others have very cool concepts to make Freddy more fun.
Unfortunately I doubt we will ever get the original one since is another license (or his outfits/powers/voice lines for that reason).
But at least they could make him fun to use and verse, while giving him a more interesting Dreamworld that is more than a brightness filter. With the introduction of "The Void" during the Halloween event, they could take some inspiration for this other world.
Anyway, to my sadness I'm sure Freddy fits in the category of the infamous "expect to see changes in the next years 😭"
Hello there, friend!
I am glad to see that liked my concept! I aimed for something that would fix the issues Old Freddy mains had with him while keeping the killer unique and fun. Good to see that I succeeded.

My only issue with swamp is that I cannot play Freddy on Grim Pantry. I am all for dark maps but I draw the line at pitch black and last time I played Freddy there, it was pitch black in the main building and the other hut (or whatever that is). I literally could not see where I was going.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/CK4BVA7N505P/featured-bioshock.jpg
Rapture is a city deep under the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean. You don't need to know a whole lot about Bioshock but just think about how it could look like. Almost no light. Water everywhere around you. And the map is made of glass corridors and rooms with wood paneling, that are connected with thick metal doors. During Bioshock 1 and 2 Rapture is already in decline. You see rubbish everywhere and some leaks here and there with a few areas completely destroyed. I think, this would really fit in with the game.
Someone made a custom lobby theme for a potential Bioshock chapter and it sounds amazing. Deeply depressing and mournful but also beautiful and somewhat soothing.
That is... odd. I play on Grim Pantry a lot because Swamp is the only map in the game that I still enjoy, and I can see in there just fine.
Ah, I see. I don't know if the lore would fit or not, but the map has potential, that I have to say.

Maybe they could do that for a second game mode. That might be a quite easy to do actually. They probably still have the old files somewhere, so they would only need to upload them again, make some small adjustments (ensure newer killer powers work etc.), bind it into a new game mode and that should be about it.
I understand that many players enjoy the current graphics more because let's be honest the overall texture quality is way better than it used to be. But with the improvements they made, they also changed the color scheme a lot. Which is quite sad because this really looked unique. I wouldn't be surprised to find today's maps in other games, if it wasn't for the random pallets everywhere.
This is one of the reasons I want to see a Bioshock chapter one day. Rapture has so much potential for a great map. Imagine, being thousands of feet unter the surface, no way to escape but through those damn exit gates. Everywhere you go there are broken lights, some barely working others shut off completely. Through the glass corridors you see a shape in the distance but you keep on working on the gen because you know, that your team needs you. You finish the gen, leave the room and see as it shuts closed behind you, filling with water. Whatever was in there, it's gone now. You keep on walking through the corridors and BAM! You got hit by a hatchet, knive, chainsaw, cane, club, mace, hand or whatever.
If that was a thing, I'll tell ya: I would never see the regular mode again.
I respect people who enjoy the new maps, of course, as everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I don't like that I lost the maps I loved. Except Swamp, and when Swamp gets changed I'll have officially lost every map that I enjoyed. I desperately want a classic pack at this point. I need it.
Or they could let us choose between new maps and older ones. The game actually supports people playing in the same map with different lighting. That could potentially give me a disadvantage, but I couldn't care less: I would enjoy the old maps again, and that is what matters.
EDIT: i don't actually know anything about Bioshock, tbh. Never played it.

Ergh. Old Freddy was such a drag, to play as and against.
I know opinions are a fickle thing, but I really can't see how anyone would genuinely want him back. Dull, boring, and he wasn't even strong to make up for it like Pinhead is/was. Unlimited aura reading was just plain unfun to go against as a survivor.
Reeks heavy of nostalgia glasses to me, which is funny since I've been playing since the game launched all those years ago.
EDIT: Not that current Freddy is anything special either. He is, rather ironically, a snore.
Yes, I do remember you from another Old Freddy thread from years ago. I know you don't like him, even with the QoL improvements I've suggested.
It is alright though, I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.
