Precisely. Old Freddy with mobility is a very sweet idea!

A killer becomes viable and people are complaining. Nothing new, just a good ole day looking at how everyone says everything in DBD is OP and needs a nerf.
At this point, I think most of us are already used to it :)

I think everyone forgets about the 50 percent slower gen speed while sleeping on old Freddy. People lost their ######### over NEW Freddy's pathetic slowdown compared to that..
It is because Old Freddy's slowdown was earned and could be avoided by waking up, something that was extremely easy to do. New Freddy's slowdown was weaker, but difficult to avoid and all the killer had to do was equip the right add-ons.

GeneralV is someone who will defend Old Freddy to the end, ignoring any and all evidence on how it's better for the game that old Freddy is gone. Just keep this in mind.
I never ignored your points, I tried to have a simple discussion. And you decided to drop it, a decision which I respected, giving my final reply without pressing the matter any further.
Besides I never called you out for disagreeing with me. Please don't do it yourself.

No, because even without moonwalking, Stab Wounds Study or Frank's Mixtape or any other add on combination he was uncoubterable in a 1v1. Unless the Legion player wasn't aware that they had eyeballs there was nothing you could do.
Your lovely person who played legion a lot on their release and faced just as many,
GoodBoyKaru.
PS. I know exactly what I'm talking about, so does my bf who agrees with me and he's literally a legion main. So do my friends who were around at the time, one of whom is an ex-legion main but has recently moved onto Huntress.
Old Legion should not and most likely will not ever come back for the overall health of the game. If you think that Old Legion was anywhere near healthy or counterable in a 1v1, you are objectively wrong.
Why did you mention Frank's Mixtape? I am going to have nightmares tonight...

A very long shot indeed.

Because he was extremely broken when he first released and it took the devs a long time to fix him. As for how I would change him, I literally have no idea.

Worry not, my friend, the rework shall fix it!

Holding W is more common because the word is out there, when it comes to high level play it was always present.
As for PTB Ghost Face, at least he had the chance of sneaking up on survivors, thinking about it they may be on the same level.
Trickster on release Ill admit, I was defending him at first but after he received his buffs it made me realize that he was worst than I thought, weakest killer? I still dont think so but he was close. Trickster now tho is definitely better than Old Freddy, his add ons and chase game are pretty good, problem is he's pretty map dependant
On the same level? I don't think so. Old Freddy had full stealth for non-sleeping survivors, mindgame potential, an insane slowdown and could make gens take forever if he wanted to.
PTB Ghostface had the worst power in the game, emitted a global sound warning every single time he activated it and completely lost it if survivors spinned their cameras. I think he was way worse.
As for current Trickster, I have no idea. Never gave him a shot.

It's kind of shocking how they haven't done this yet. It would take very little effort, yet be such a big improvement.
It is sad, to be honest. I mean, it is not like they don't know Old Freddy mains want their killer back.

If his "biggest advantage" was to allow survivors to:
-Complete gens right in front of him
-Do totems in front of him
-Being the only killer not being able to camp hooks even if he was forced to
-Turning generators that were in dead zones into now safe places because of how much distance a survivor could make before Freddy is finally able to hit them. (They could literally run 28m in any direction they wanted for free)
Then I think there was a problem
"Holding W" was always meta just like looping its just that more people are vocal about it because I guess some streamer said something and it blew up, its called "ressource management".
Also any mindgame Freddy was able to do, any other killer could of done as well. The "Mindgame" with Freddy was if a survivor stayed at a pallet while in dream transition he could move back and forth and use the popping in and out of reality to his advantage. Problem is this only worked on bad survivors since no good survivor in their right mind would camp a pallet.
Old Freddy was and will for ever he the weakest itteration of any killer in the history of DbD. And thats saying a lot considering PTB Ghost Face was a thing
The first three things you've mentioned are correct. That is precisely why the Incapacitated status effect would be perfect for him. As for the fourth, that wasn't always true. Freddy on release got slowed down for 1 second instead of 3, and even after his unnecessary nerf sometimes it was very easy to hit a survivor before they could reach a pallet or a window. Imagine that nowadays, with dead zones all over the place.
As for "holding W" I believe it is way more common today than when I first started playing DBD (2018), but this is based on my personal experience, so it might be wrong.
As for the mindgame, I've seen plenty of good survivors camping pallets during the Dream Transition, especially when Pill Bottle was present.
And no, I don't think he was the worst killer ever. PTB Ghostface was MUCH worse, and I speak from experience. Same thing with Trickster on release.

Indeed. The least they could do is give us some sort of toggle to let us choose between Modern and Old Freddy.
Precisely what I was thinking about. It saddens me that they haven't done it yet.

True, it's unpredictable nature would make the perk more threatening.
The amount of backlash I've seen for Modern Freddy is nearly unmatched. Behavior needs to swallow their pride and realize that the Freddy rework simply failed.
That is true. If they don't want to completely erase his new power, they could at least let us choose between old and new.
We know they still have the assets of his old power, hitting a survivor with the Endurance status effect is further prove of that. It is about time the devs admit that they've screwed up.

I don't blame you for forgetting this perk exists. It's honestly pretty bad most of the time.
But yeah, I can see this perk working very well on Old Freddy. Let's hope one day we get to test it.
Another advantage of this perk is the fact that it is unpredictable. I mean, who expects a killer to have it? And when they realise it, sometimes it is already too late.
We will get to test it, my friend, we will. I doubt BHVR will keep Freddy the way he currently is. I know I wouldn't.
-
Overbuffed? I don't think so. I had not played him since late 2019, and when I did give him a shot recently things felt so much better.

@QwQw said:

What about Dragons Grip? Since one of survivor's main ways of waking up is by interacting with a gen and getting a skill check, Freddy could force them to become exposed by kicking the gen if they want to wake up. If they stay asleep, they are incredibly vulnerable to Freddy, and if they touch the gen to try and wake up they get exposed. It's a win-win for Freddy.
Ok, I completely forgot about this perk because I've used it only once, for Adept Blight. But this is a very good suggestion.
They will be either exposed or vulnerable to the insane slowdown and they cannot hide because Dream Demon locked on through walls. I can see it working. I can definitely see it working.

Oppression could be counter productive if they fail on purpose. There is no extra regression and they could be quite far away.
Im interested about surge though since the gen blow up animation plays when it activates. Would that wake them up?
I was actually thinking about Oppression for information, but you're right on that one.
As for Surge, I think it would wake them up, but I am not sure. There is only one way of knowing...

I wonder what modern perks would be good on Old Freddy? Maybe Hex: Crowd Control for stopping survivors from vaulting over and over while they're falling asleep? It's an interesting prospect.
Sounds interesting, especially when going against people who actually played against him back in the day, as I suppose they would recall a few tricks. New Ruin and Oppression are also good choices, imo.
-
No, not anymore. With crossplay enabled it is rare for me to go against the same survivors, so I just ignore their names. But it wasn't always like that.
Back in the day when I first started playing, it was not unusual for me to run into some familiar faces from time to time, and we would often have a nice chat after the game, or in the lobby :)
Also, funny fact: a few days ago I actually faced a killer that I met back in the day, and we recognised each other. It was an interesting experience.

The problem is that how would we then buff old Freddy? He would get his teleport but what besides that? He would still be terrible at looping
Allow me to present to you an idea I've been working on:
Pull survivors into the Dream World
-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see glimpses of The Nightmare and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.
-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.
-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.
-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.
-Failed Generator Skill Checks can also wake up.
-Hooked Survivors wake up.
Special Ability: Dream Projection
-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.
-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.
-For each Survivor in the Dream World, the cool-down of using Dream Projection is reduced by stack-able 20%.
“You have nothing to worry about. This won’t hurt one… little… bit.” -Freddy Krueger
What do you think?

@Shroompy said:

Id rather have that than having a slower movememt speed for simply holding out your power like Old Freddy just to wait 7 seconds and only then being able to get a hit. He was and still is an M1 killer just now he has an ability that helps him in chase and map pressure. Yes, his power may be more generic but its far more effective. Old Freddy's "power" was a literal hinderance
His power was not a hinderance, it was his biggest advantage. Having to wait 7 seconds to hit a survivor was not a problem, especially back then when mindgames were much more viable since "holding W" wasn't meta. As for the other half of the chase, well, you shouldn't go for it until you were ready.

At the time I was a survivor main who was only like a purple rank killer.
I think my build was something along the lines of BBQ, Old Ruin, Overcharge, and Bloodwarden/Noed. I know it wasn't the best, but then again neither was I at playing killer at the time.
That's actually one of the biggest reasons I want Old Freddy back. I want to see how he'd preform with the new perks we have, and now that I'm much better at killer I want to give him another shot.
Ah, I see. Well, it doesn't sounds like a bad build at all. That Overcharge alone already makes it better than mine lol.
And yes, it would be nice to see how he would perform with the new perks we have. Not to mention the lack of infinite loops (or most of them, at least).

Personally i found old freddy unique and very fun with his complete invis and then suddenly you feel yourself drifting to sleep. He was wraith but instead of uncloaking to hit you hed sleep you then smack you. Gave the survivors some warning to get to a loop.
And you are completely right, my friend. He was unique, fun, and extremely underrated.

Indeed it is, my friend. Indeed it is.
Out of curiosity, what was your build on him? I was actually thinking about this yesterday.
My build was something like Old Ruin, BBQ, Thanatophobia and Fire Up. Not the best Old Freddy build out there, but that was what my early 2019 self came up with.
-
@Northener1907 said:

That would be good buff for Old Freddy but he is still weak. Because survivors can awake so easyly. For more changes, survivors can not wake up each other + failing skill checks can not awake you. Only if you get hooked or you will go to clock. More buffs like that would make him good tier.
But no, we have boring killer right now.
Failing a Generator Skill-Check to wake up is okay, in my opinion. Some Old Freddy builds had Overcharge for this reason.
However, failing a healing Skill-Check to wake up was a problem. And trust me, I don't want to deal with a Self-Care mid-chase ever again.
-
New Freddy has one good thing going for him, which is Dream Projection. But other than that, he is just a generic killer, unfun to play as and against.
Old Freddy in the other hand was weaker, not as weak as most people say tho, but way more fun to play as. I would do anything to have my old killer back. I truly would.

Yes, as much as I like the teleport I wouldn't mind having Old Freddy back the exact same way he used to be. That is good enough for me.
-
@QwQw said:
Control+Alt Delete Modern Freddy and replace him with Old Freddy. Except the gen-teleport, that can stay.
Yep, that is precisely the way it should be done! Old Freddy with mobility would be sweet.
-
Do you even have to ask, my friend? If there is one killer who needs a change, it is our boy Freddy:
I am honestly quite satisfied with this change. I tried my best to come up with a perfect version of Freddy, one which made him strong fun to play as. I hope I've succeeded.
Edit: I forgot some extra details, here they are:
-The Nightmare’s Movement Speed Penalty for putting a survivor into the Dream Transition lasts for 1 second, as it originally was.
-The Nightmare has a 24 metres Terror Radius
-Dying Survivors who are healed to the Injured State aren’t automatically woken up.
-
Yeah, I can imagine just how frustrating that is. One of the reasons why I don't play Blight at all.
-
Fog offerings are nice, but they should have a more drastic effect. Basement offerings can go.
-
I was about to write an elaborate reply about how I agree that the current state of the game is not that good, then I would talk about the advantages of older versions and some other things.... And then I read the post.

Definitely not alone. A ton of survivors would love to see the old BT return.
I can understand why the devs nerfed it ages ago. The game was much more survivor-sided back then. But now that things have been balanced out more, I wouldn't mind seeing the perk return myself. BT back in the day really was a strong anti-snowball perk.
Yeah, perhaps I should've known some survivors actually want it back. But I am used to have unpopular opinions, so there is that.
And I suppose I understand why the devs changed it. Its anti-snowball potential truly is amazing, and perhaps it was a little bit too strong back in the day. However, the patch which changed it was 1.9.2 and everything that comes from that patch is questionable.

With old BT, your entire team could actually escape the basement alive.
Oh, I am surprised to see that, my friend. I was expecting to stand alone on this one.
I actually never experienced old BT myself, but I've seen countless videos about it. I think it was a very interesting perk, to be honest.
-
Gladly.
I admit it disheartens me to say, but Freddy is not in a good state right now, in my opinion. For the moment we are stuck with a watered down version of his new and generic power, together with some useless add-ons. Yes, he still is an A Tier killer, but at what cost?
His nerf did not address his issues, and was extremely unnecessary to begin with. But so was his first rework back in 2019.
The best thing to do with Freddy is to revert his rework. It is the right thing to do. Always has been.
-
This sounds like a very good idea. I wonder what they would do to my main, and what would be required in order to unlock the reward.
