  • Steam messes things up a lot. From the sounds of it, a lot of files failed to validate and need to be redownloaded. The only advice or instruction I can really give you is to let it finish the download and then see if the game is working after that.

Interesting comment there. I do take that attitude in-games as well but when people want to get an achievement they want to be able to obtain it.

i find it irritatingly hard at red ranks and feel as if they’re not as achievable as survivor adepts. I think the only thing that’s good about them at the moment is that they’re a challenge. But both sides are far from balanced

But I still hold my opinion about the emblem system... it is odd and feels awkward as opposed to the survivor emblems and I hope we see some sort of change in the future to encourage killers to keep playing

Sorry, I should have been clearer, my comment was referring to the matchmaking issues that you mentioned.

When it comes to achievements, I agree with you, although I'd rather see the devs focus on improving the game than fixing the achievements if they have to prioritise one over the other.

The emblem system is awful for both sides. I'm personally really looking forward to the matchmaking changes, if only because there's no way it could get any worse.

I don’t mind matchmaking. I don’t know why everyone complains about it. Maybe because I started this game in the BETA on my old account where you’d be matched with all ranks from around the world from what I remember.

A new victory system would be nice seeing as the new changes make the end game feel “quashed”

I don't have huge issues with it, I take a very casual "you win some, you lose some" attitude to the game most of the tiem. But some people take it very seriously, and they don't like feeling like they were set up to fail. And admittedly, it's generally more fun to play against an opponent with whom you're more or less evenly matched.

Thanks for the heads up and feedback. I feel as if they definitely SHOULD change/revert the Merciless victory requirements and killers may feel a little less punished.

That's true, it might help people to feel a bit better about recent changes. Who knows, maybe we'll see an overhaul of the victory system along with the new matchmaking 🤷

  • Almo has commented on this topic before and explained the situation. Basically, they can't change the achievements themselves because Microsoft and Sony won't let them (although Valve won't care). They could change the requirements for a Merciless Victory again, which is something he would like to look into at some stage, it's just not high priority right now.

    achievement-changes.PNG achievement-changes-2.PNG
  • Yeah, but as long as it's possible within the mechanics of the game, even if it's unfair or a huge pain, they won't let them change it.

But they changed the achievement for Legion, didnt they?

    Which one?

  • @themirrortwin said:

@Peanits could this achievement be reworked?

Possibly on PC, but not on consoles. Valve doesn't care, but Microsoft and Sony are really stingy about changing the achievements. As long as it's still technically possible to achieve, they won't let you touch it.

Or he could be rolling back, it does happen... sometimes.

Not sure if someone can roll back multiple times in a row though, at least I think that's how often this happens to the OP.

That's one reason why the game might not be registering his recent purchases, yes.

  • The game is always changing. If your friends quit the game over one change because they would rather stop playing altogether than adapt and try to get better, they probably wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway.

  • Tunneling is not toxic and it's always okay.

However, if you're trying to make sure everyone has a good time and you're asking when it's okay to tunnel under that premise, I would say tunneling is acceptable if there is no one else for you to chase, or if the alternative is letting them escape the match.

I had no idea there was a login bonus. I always drain my bloodpoints before i get off every night. I started keeping track of it. Tuesday into Wednesday was an extra 17k bloodpoints and last night into today was 11k bloodpoints. It’s always a nice surprise.

You shouldn't be getting bloodpoints just from logging in. The most likely explanation I can think of is that the game just isn't registering your last few purchases for whatever reason. I would report it as a bug, and/or contact Support and see if they can help you out.

Maybe this game done correctly is not meant to be AAA. I wonder if anyone has ever thought of that. Maybe if they realized it's a niche cult classic type they'd fix it and balance it for a smaller player base.

You're basically saying keep it the way it was by their own admission, never intended to be, for the sake of numbers.

Yes. Because numbers are important. Because multiplayer games die when they don't have multi players.

Good to know, thanks. I also want to clarify something, I do not have fun to camp, in fact I do not do it, I even always try to go for the survivor who is healthy to give the injured person a chance to recover, but when the game ends in seconds and all the engines already they were completed, sometimes I need to stay with the only survivor I have hung up to at least get a kill, but it is obvious that it is bad to be a killer who wants to at least be able to kill 1 player 😑

But when they say they are going to report me for that, I really don't know what else to do, do I play in a friendly way and don't kill anyone? I waste my time and let everyone win because everything I do is wrong? I am glad to know that if they report me for that I will not have problems. Many also complain that I am a tunneler but I really can't remember who was on the hook when there are 2 people injured together, when all the survivors are the same character is impossible for me to know who is about to die, I don't want to ruin the survivors' game and that they do not get points, the idea is that we can all have a good time, but it is difficult to be new to try to remember all those "rules" that the killers have, and thus prevent them from saying that they are going to report me or that I have no moral for killing them

Even though it sucks for the survivor, most people consider it pretty fair play to camp a hooked survivor in the endgame in order to secure a kill.

My advice to you would be to ignore everything anyone says. It's great that you want everyone to have fun, and I would encourage you to keep up that mentality of good sportsmanship, but don't throw games because you're worried about being attacked for it. Be a good sport, aim for a fun game for everyone involved, but also do your best and if you want to win, play to win. That's how I play, and it's really the most that can be expected of you.

If other people still try to trash talk you or insult your morality, they're the ones being unreasonable, and that's a problem with them, not you. There are some people who will never be satisfied unless you throw the game into their laps. Ignore them, move on, and if they take it too far you can always report them for abuse and harassment.

Thank you for saying it nicely, its good to know someone can actually have the patience to deal with people like OP

I do understand your impatience. I just find that people, especially new people, tend to respond better to kindness in general. And I can understand OP's frustration as well - it's the same frustration I feel when my American friends have no clue what Celsius means so I have to translate every temperature I mention in my head! But that's just a fact of life, we can't expect every person or piece of media we encounter to cater to our personal experience.

  • Fun. It's a game, after all. I don't imagine that there's anyone who cares more about winning than they do about having fun, because people only care about winning because they find winning fun or fulfilling.

  • I apologise for the rudeness of the commenter above me. But this sort of feature really isn't necessary. Everyone else in the world has had to learn roughly how long a foot is in order to engage with American media, it's really not difficult to do it the other way around. If it helps, a metre is just over three feet - around 3.3 feet, I believe.

  • @Mastropiero said:

Is there any possibility that my game has some error and that for a failure I am red rank as killer? I really can't understand it, I find it hard to believe that as a killer the survivors are always red rank and when I'm a survivor the killer is always red/purple rank and my teammates are green rank as me. God, I hope it's a bug in my game because it's really incomprehensible that something like this happens in 99% of my games

I don't want you to misunderstand me, I believe in what you tell me, but it's really hard to understand that a game is that unfair

You're correct, there is actually a bug with matchmaking at the moment where the game will register killers as being at a different rank from what they are, and so match them inappropriately with survivors. There are other issues with the matchmaking system as well, though, so your problem might equally be one of those.

The good news is, the developers are working hard on trying to fix the issues and the matchmaking system is about to be overhauled, so hopefully you won't have to deal with this sort of thing for much longer. If it's too frustrating for you, you can always take a break and come back to the game after the new system is implemented, but if you would like to power through in the knowledge that it will soon hopefully be fixed, you can do that too.

As for people insulting you in the post-game chat, that's not unusual unfortunately. You should know that you won't get in trouble with the developers for camping or using NOED, though. Even if the survivors threaten to report you, it won't do anything. If the chat bothers you, I would advise either muting the chat altogether - there is a button you can click to hide the chat box - or just quitting immediately after the game ends and not sticking around to read anything they might have to say.

  • You're not the first to report this issue - I would advise filing a bug report at the link below, including any relevant details such as your platform, build, etc.

    Bug Reports subforum: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/bug-reports

  • How is it a scam? Who would buy cosmetics for killers without knowing that killer is first-person?

    "Don't be negative, no insults"

-Calls everyone criticizing the game children

    Nice bait thread.

As they explained in subsequent comments, OP isn't taking issue with criticism in general, they're taking issue with people who take their complaints to destructive levels. And it's true that there are a lot of people on the forums who act like spoiled children when something in the game doesn't go their way, which is why making the distinction between constructive and nonconstructive criticism is so important.

  • I do think player feedback is important, and player ideas are great to have. The devs have implemented good player ideas in the past - I've heard that Hex: Haunted Ground was one example.

However, I don't think we should have a fan-designed chapter, because the truth is most players don't know as much as they think they do about game design or balance and would probably totally botch it. And I feel like it would be a bad idea to put the devs into a position where they're obliged to work with someone who doesn't know what they're talking about when it comes to design. It could get messy very easily.

Having said that, if the fan-made component was strictly limited to the character's lore and/or appearance, that would be something I could get behind.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/125327/calling-all-killer-mains-and-survivor-mains-this-needs-to-stop-hear-me-out

the only one being childish is you, at least looking at the way that you make your post with smileys and all that. You also fail to see that there is a geniue merit to some of these complains.

Killers have legitimate reason to complain as the math doesnt add up. 80 sec to do one gen, and there are 4 survivors. Each survivor can work on a different generator.

On the other hand, the killer has to deal with 12 chases (if you plan on 4k) that generally takes longer than 30 seconds. the math simply doesnt add up.

So when a perk changes that was meant to stall the game to even out the math, then obviously, killers will complain. They complain because the ball was never on their side of the half, it has and always will be, on the survivors side.

You're calling him out for using smileys? Really? So trying to be friendly is childish now?

  • That is interesting, I didn't know that either. I wonder if it can track Doctor's illusionary pallets as well?

  • @Mystix said:

@FireHazard oh nice :) It is awesome that you mix thing's up :) I main Spirit and Playing a lot of trapper at the moment and will be maining pig as well when I get the right perks for her, My BF mains Doctor and Legion, He also asked is there a recent Tier List at all you know off? I like Myers I just don't understand his Power but he is so scary and fast :)

Tier lists in DBD are a fairly objective thing, since everyone has their own opinions about which factors make up a "strong" killer, and what each killer's individual potential is.

I can give you a very general idea of the ranking, though opinions will differ so take this with a large grain of salt. Most people consider the strongest killer in the game to be either Nurse, Spirit or Freddy. Personally, I think it's Nurse, but she's a lot harder to play than the other two. Most would say that Hillbilly and Oni are also up there. Huntress, Ghostface, Hag, Myers and Plague are all considered by most to be fairly strong, although opinions differ on which of them are the strongest. Doctor and Pig sit around mid-tier in most rankings, and Trapper, Wraith, Clown, Cannibal, Demogorgon and Legion are generally thought of as the weakest killers in the game, although again, opinions differ as to who is the absolute worst.

  • @DudeDelicious I feel like this topic may be of interest to you.

  • DCing is not generally considered a valid play since, in order for something to be considered a legitimate tactic, it has to be performed while playing the game, and quitting the game is not playing the game.

It's also not a good idea for you to do, since DCing is actually a bannable offence if you do it too much, you will derank and you will lose any bloodpoints you earned that game, as well as any items you had.

  • I wouldn't be opposed to this. I think it's a good compromise between all the arguments I've seen made for and against keeping the MMR hidden.

9000 shards for a character doesn't take that long. I bought yui and oni with shards the day they came out and had like 3k left over. I don't play every day. And when i do its maybe 2 hours at a time. I have 14k now.

And I assure you, I'm aware of that, but that's not what the comment you originally took issue with was addressing.

The problem is we fall into a trap of shifting the problem around, while using specific scenarios as escape goat to justify questionable mechanics.

Op lost cause he play poorly, Ok, but what about everyone else who play better and still get can't stop 2 gens from propping right in the beginning of the game?

That's why people complain that killer is stressful. There is little to no room for mistakes.

"Guess the side of the map wrong in the beginning of the match, oh well, guess that's 2 gens before I get my first hook"

The game needs to be balanced around high skill lvl players, otherwise it's an inconsistent mess.

Maybe, but that's getting off-topic now. This thread is very specifically about the game OP played, and I was responding to that, not to overall issues with game balancing.

That is very true thank you :) What killer do you play? That is awesome that he is red with Trapper :) Trapper is awesome! You have been an amazing help, Thank you everyone for all the comments it is greatly appreciated :) Will definitely know where to ask questions and help :)

No problem! Feel free to come back here with any questions you might have 😊 FireHazard and I are usually around, and will be glad to help.

Personally, I'm a Doctor main mostly, but I also really enjoy Pig and have been getting into Plague recently as well. Apparently, I enjoy killers with good tracking potential who can interfere with survivors from a distance. I find Trapper very satisfying as well, probably for similar reasons.

  • @Mystix said:

@Fibijean Okay thank you :) I am considering maining Pig as I really like her playstyle but is she too weak to use in meta? I thought Ghostface would be mid-high tier, So basically any killer that has a lot of pressure is good in mid-high tier? :)

Controversial opinion, but you can do well at high ranks with any killer as long as you're good enough at using them. Otzdarva, for example, dominates at red ranks as Trapper, who is typically considered to be among the weakest killers in the game. So if you enjoy playing Pig, I would absolutely encourage you to go ahead and play her 😊

To answer your second question, yes, in a broad sense, the killers that are easiest to apply pressure with tend to be the strongest. That's why all the top-tier killers are the ones with high mobility, because they have the best map control and also the ability to end chases quickly.

The important thing is to play to your strengths. Ghostface, like most stealth killers (Pig included) tends to benefit from anti-healing, hit-and-run type builds because while most of them are reduced to simple M1 in a chase, the strength of stealth killers lies in being able to get the jump on survivors and secure the first hit. So perks like Thanatophobia, Nurse's Calling and Sloppy Butcher tend to be quite effective on them.

Having said that, don't be afraid to try out non-meta builds that you think might be good or fun to use - you might find that you have more success with them than you expect!

  • How do we know that the only people at top ranks will be SWF? Did they end up releasing the details of how the MMRs are calculated after all?

  • The DBD "year" doesn't follow the calendar year. As Okapi said, they typically release roadmaps around the time of the game's anniversary in June.

  • @Mystix said:

@FleshTorpedo @FireHazard and Fibijean Thank you ever so much for your comments, Hazard I am watching the video now so helpful too watch and learn, Fibi I have never tried that so thank you as I seem too have most trouble with Ghostface and I seem too see him a lot everywhere, Apprantley he is Top Tier at the moment? @FleshTorpedo I completely agree with you, I think it is a stupid strategy but as Hazard said if they want to waste time body blocking then it gives the Killer more advantage and also when I see that in a game I usually know if it is a 3/4 stack, May I ask who would you say the Top Tier Killers are? Also I really think it is a cowardly move when they body block then Teabag... Saying that I was playing Ghostface earlier today and I had 1 hooked and 3 body blocking and they all died, So it does pay off it is just annoying and tideous :)

Ghostface isn't typically considered top tier (except perhaps by particular streamers), but most people consider him mid- to high-tier. Personally, I would probably say that the top tier killers, based on the strength of their power alone, are Nurse, Spirit, Freddy and maybe Hillbilly. But Spirit and Freddy are the strongest in terms of their strength to ease of use ratio.

  • @FireHazard said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1048763#Comment_1048763

I agree that in this circumstance video evidence might be required, but it doesn't explicitly state that it is so... optional? Probably. Hopefully he has video evidence of this beforehand if they ask for it, otherwise it's a bit too late for that.

I couldn't say exactly where, but I believe it's been confirmed in the past by Mandy that the team usually need video evidence for any offence that happens in-game - body blocking, hacking, working with the opposite team, etc. But feel free to tag her if you'd like confirmation.

  • Freddy's lunge has the same range as every other killer's, not counting Demo's Shred and Pig's Ambush since those are secondary powers, not basic attacks. It just looks longer relative to his body, because he's quite a small killer with quite a short weapon, so his weapon doesn't visually connect with survivors if they're on the edge of his lunge range. Pig has the same problem when she lunges normally.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1048615#Comment_1048615

I'm sorry, but if you don't want to come across as someone who defends everything the devs put out maybe you shouldn't try to blame one player for a problem that has been affecting many.

If good players are having trouble with the gen speed, how do you think it is for low skill players?

You can't just say "it's your fault you took to long to find them" as an excuse for Gen speed.

I can, if that's why they lost.

Not that I did say that - what I said was "It's hard to say whether generators were actually the problem there without seeing a video of your gameplay". They might have been, and they might not, but I can point out several major mistakes just in the way OP described the game that point towards the outcome of the match having more to do with lack of pressure than flaws in the game design.

I can see mistakes even in the video they posted, where they got a 4K. And that's fine, because they're rank 12, and no one should expect their gameplay to be flawless. But that doesn't mean it's not their fault if they lose. I never said, and never will say, that the game is perfectly balanced, but blaming the game for a loss when the player could have played better is a terrible habit to get into and helps no one in the long run.

  • In addition to what was said above, you'll also need to supply video evidence of what happened alongside the support ticket. Otherwise, the team probably won't be able to do anything to punish the players in question.

  • @Zeidoktor said:

What about Calm + Monitor and Abuse? Or would that be impractical due to the chase requirement for M&A?

Yeah, you could make it work, but as FireHazard said, you would basically be crippling your power for no real gain, since Static Blast is better as a location tool so you won't (or shouldn't) be using it often while in a chase.

  • @FireHazard said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1048586#Comment_1048586

I'm not sure what you mean by "The person on the hook" as the person on the hook doesn't have the ability to do anything if they're on said hook.

If you mean where the Survivor attempts to hide behind another hooked Survivor than you can simply just mind-game them by going back and forth from side to side until you double back on one side and hit them.

If you mean the person who's sitting on the hook (not actually hooked but they're standing under it) than you simply just go to the hook and than hit them out of the way, if anyone else attempts to get in the way than you also hit them one by one. If it takes the entire time to get that Survivor to wiggle off your shoulder than that means none of them are on Generators and, most likely, they're all in the Injured state after taking so many hits to prevent that Survivor (on your shoulder) from being hooked.

    as for ghostface

He's considered a Mid-Tier Killer, meaning he's neither the best or the worst Killer to use. GhostFace has a lot of potential in-game due to this power (NightShroud) giving him a 0 Terror Radius when active. NightShroud isn't perfect though, GhostFace can be broken out of it from a Survivor looking at him for a few seconds, GhostFace swinging his weapon, or grabbing a Survivor out/off of locker, window, etc.

Also, like Myers, he can give Survivors the "Exposed Status effect" by stalking them until their "circle meter" is fully charged in the bottom left hand corner on their play icon itself. This is hidden to the Survivors until you're marked, but for GhostFace he can see how far a Survivor is before they're marked.

Also, the Exposed Status effect is basically the equivalent to a one-shot down when applied to a Survivor. So when they have this status effect they can be put into the Dying State (I.E. downed instantly) in the Injured and Healthy states.

The differences between Myers and GhostFace is... quite a lot actually, but in terms of how they apply this status effect GF can only do this for one Survivor at a time, while Myers has his own Tier "Called Tier lll" that puts gives every Survivor the exposed status effect when active.

That's a different topic though, the point is GhostFace is a solid Killer to use and face, but he's still just an M1 Killer at his core, so nothing special happens in a chase except for basic chase mechanics that Trapper, Wraith, Pig, etc all do.

    how can I counter ghostface?

Well for one, GhostFace can actually be broken out of his 0 Terror Radius power. To do this you need to be facing the direction GhostFace is in (your body needs to face him) while also looking at GhostFace himself, after a few seconds you'll he'll a "surprised noise" get slightly louder until GhostFace is enveloped in a white aura and no longer has a 0 Terror Radius until his power recharges.

So, this is a way to put him back into the base 32 meter Terror Radius while also hiding behind rocks, since you can do this even if you're behind a decently sized rock and facing your body towards him. It's a bit finicky when you do it that way, but it can be done.

That's essentially it in terms of how to counter his power... since you can literally turn it off by doing that. If you want to know how to loop a basic M1 Killer or a Killer like GhostFace than i'd like to recommend a video below that'll teach you the fundementals of every basic tile in-game. A tile is essentially a loop and there is always the same tiles/loops in most maps, not every map has these basic tiles, but most of them do.

this video will explain how to use these basic tiles

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6QYjInzLeM&t=59s

(Side-Note) This video is slightly out-dated in terms of new maps that were introduced AFTER or maps that were reworked like Lery's for example. The video is still solid though and still goes over a lot of basic and intermediate tips that any beginner should learn about when playing as a Survivor AND even a Killer when facing said tiles.

Just as a side note, your body doesn't actually have to face Ghostface in order to break him out of stealth - I've done it many times while looking behind me during a chase. He just needs to be in the centre of your screen, and at least 20% of his body needs to be visible. But the mechanics of it can be a bit finnicky.

  • I always let Dwelfs go. It's good luck!

  • @Hex_BoopTheSnoot I gave it a go, just photoshopping the outfits out of the screenshots you provided. It's far from perfect, sorry about that, but hopefully it might suit your purposes?
