We all have 200 ping and are getting foreigners and I have messaged any Australians I have come across to get their opinion and they said their in the ######### too and some are quiting. My western au friend is always getting the foreign server too.
I see. That does seem odd, since PC at the very least definitely has Sydney servers, as noted by other commenters.
@Almo, are you able to confirm whether or not the dedicated servers for all platforms are in the same locations?

don't mind him, he literally will defend the devs til he dies, I would recommend contacting steam/xbox/ps and ask for a refund, tell them the game is literally unplayable at this point, and most of the time they will actually listen. people really shouldn't stand for this #########
What you're recommending isn't possible as far as I'm aware, since I don't believe any of the platforms in question grant refunds on games that have been played for more than an hour or two. Also, I'd appreciate it if you didn't spread untruths about me, please and thank you.
-
How do we know that there's no Xbox server in Sydney?
-
Completing the objective. If I get a 3-4K as killer, or if I escape as survivor, then I won. Fun is irrelevant - I often lose but still have fun, and I occasionally win but take no enjoyment in the fact.
-
I have a great computer, so I play on ultra at 100% resolution and it's still pretty smooth. I know low is better strategically, but I'd rather lose a pretty game than win an ugly one π

The next killer will be the one announced with the 4th DBD anniversary, so I think it'll be a licensed killer. Doing a licensed killer such a big event would bring a lot of eyes to the game
I'd be surprised if they did that, considering it would require them to hold off on the DLC release for an extra month at least. They usually release new chapters every three months, which would mean that the next one is due in May, but the game's anniversary isn't until mid-June.
-
It might be reportable, but we'd need more details. Were you playing survivor or killer, and if survivor, were you being blocked by the killer or another survivor? What was going on elsewhere in the game? Survivor-on-survivor bodyblocking for extended lengths of time like that is always bannable, but survivors blocking the killer never is, and killers bodyblocking survivors is only bannable if they are taking the game hostage in doing so.
-
What you're describing is absolutely bannable and taken very seriously. There are two possibilities as to why nothing happened: the first is that they felt there wasn't enough evidence to take action, which would make sense if they themselves are unable to see the post-game chat (to my knowledge, it's never been confirmed whether they can or not). I always submit a Support ticket with screenshots just in case, to make sure they have sufficient evidence, using the link FireHazard posted above. Make sure to submit under the "Additional player report information" category. If you do have screenshots, I would strongly advise you to follow up your report with a ticket to ensure appropriate punishment.
The second, and in my opinion more likely, possibility is that the team are just very busy at the moment and have a lot of requests to get through. Sometimes it takes more than 1-2 days for a Support ticket or player report to be seen and processed (since I believe they go to the same place), so it's possible that they just haven't got to yours yet and that's the only reason why that player hasn't been punished.

But didn't the Ghost face chapter release around the same time the 5th year anniversary began? I'm sure it did from what I can remember.
That's true, but I don't believe that was intentional, it's just that they release DLC every three months and the anniversary last year happened to be three months after the previous DLC release. This year, the DLC is due in May and the anniversary is in June, so it's unlikely that they'll coincide.
-
@Elena said:

Hopefully and will the 5th year anniversary come with a new chapter too?
I don't know. My guess would be probably not, since the next chapter is likely to come out around May and the one after that in July-August, so they probably won't coincide with anniversary celebrations. It's not impossible that they might celebrate a bit early such that the celebrations do coincide with the next chapter release, but I don't expect them to do that simply because it would probably be too much work for them to be planning a chapter release and an anniversary at the same time. If I were a dev, I would try to get the chapter out a few weeks before the anniversary so that we can focus just on celebrating when the time comes.

Aside from Chapters, do you know if there will be any events soon?
I'm not a developer, so unfortunately I don't know for sure. I doubt we'll be getting any more of the old kind of events, with secondary objectives included, any time soon, but I do expect that we'll get something for the game's fourth anniversary in June. I'm expecting at least a Blood Hunt, and almost certainly a lot more than that, since they've been amping up the anniversary celebrations every year and last year's was pretty spectacular.

Hmm.. based on PC's DLC:
Nurse 2016
Myers 2016
Hag 2016
Licensed in 2016: 1
Bill (L4D2) 2017
Doctor 2017
Huntress 2017
Leatherface 2017
Freddy 2017
Licensed in 2017: 3
Pig 2018
Clown 2018
Spirit 2018
Legion 2018
Licensed in 2018: 1
Plague 2019
Ash 2019
Ghostface 2019
Demogorgon 2019
Licensed in 2019: 3
Deathslinger 2020
So... to counter @Fibijean there IS a pattern.
So based on the current pattern there should only be 1 Licensed Killer this year.
But, this is not "factual" yet. It is clearly speculation but it still has a pattern oddly enough.
So expect about 1 Licensed character this year. If not less or more.
I'm about 90% sure that pattern is an incidental one, though. And it doesn't tell us anything about what we'll get for the next chapter as per OP's question, which is the kind of pattern I was referring to. Because so far this has been the pattern (O being original and L being licensed):
O, L, O, L, O, O, L, L, L, O, O, O, O, L, L, L, O, O.
Which isn't really a pattern. The next could easily be an L or an O. So it's probable that we'll get a licensed DLC this year, but we have no indication as to whether the next chapter will be that license or not.
-
More like they decided the best way to fix it was to nerf toolboxes significantly and introduce breakable walls to make chases easier around strong loops. Repair speeds are not the be-all and end-all of game speed.
-
I'm pretty sure the devs realise that a good proportion of the complaints fall into the "just bad at the game" category. Which is part of why they look to people like the Fog Whisperers for an indication of whether a mechanic is really problematic in high-level play.
However, they also look at the experience of newer players, because just because a mechanic is fair doesn't mean it's fun or accessible. And games, above all, should be fun. No one should feel miserable playing a game, and if they do, that can also be an indication that something is wrong.
The point being, there are a lot of factors that are considered when the devs look at player feedback, and the probable skill level of the players giving that feedback is one of them. I can guarantee that they don't just sit down and go, "well, most of the people on the forums are complaining about this so we'd better just nerf it with no questions asked".
-
If they were messing around just having a good time, that's frowned upon but not reportable. If they were working with the killer to sabotage you, that's reportable, but as @Huntar said, it needs to be clear that they were doing it with malicious intent and didn't just happen upon you while in a chase.
As for whether it's worth reporting, it's worth it if what they were doing is legitimately reportable (which it sounds like it wasn't, in your case) and if you have video evidence of the fact. You can still report someone for griefing without evidence, but it will most likely be dismissed since the Support team are very careful about banning people who they don't know for certain are guilty.
-
We don't know what to expect at this stage. They don't release in patterns, so whether the next killer will be licensed or not is anyone's guess. Not trying to stifle anyone's creativity, so speculate away, just trying to answer the initial question.
As for when we can expect Chapter 16, though, they release roughly every three months, so some time in May seems most likely, possibly even late April.
-
My guess would be that Off The Record will actually help you save Distortion tokens, in the same way that hiding in a locker does. The reason is to do with the wording of the two perks - Off The Record says "your aura will not be shown to the killer", and according to Distortion's description, it only actives "when your aura would be shown to the killer". Since Off The Record prevents this, Distortion doesn't meet the conditions for activation.
You would have to test it yourself, though, or find someone else who has, to be absolutely sure. But it would make no sense at all for them not to work together.

Seems like really bad latency. It might not have been your connection - since hit detection always prioritises the killer (in other words, if you got hit on their screen then you got hit), I believe you can get hit around corners like that just from the killer's ping being really high.

"though I think moving should also include performing actions. So it forces survivors to stand there and do nothing for ten seconds or risk revealing their locations to the killer. It seems fun and unique, and I say that as a survivor main."
I actually like that change a lot, seems fair.
"It's just a pity that the ranking system punishes it so unreasonably."
That's one of the issues with the ranking system we have. It rewards you for playing inneficiently and punishes you for playing efficiently.
"My only concern is with how it would be affected by latency, but I suppose if the survivors stop moving a second or two early to allow for latency, it shouldn't be much of a problem."
I don't think latency would really matter much in this scenario, especially when latency is working on hook shots and hatchet throws which are much more affected by it and they are working (all be it rough these days).
I have had huge issues with the emblem system pretty much since its implementation for that exact reason - it punishes people for playing too well, in spite of its alleged purpose as a measure of player skill.
The difference with things like hatchet throws is that I believe the killer's connection is given priority in those cases, which is why they seem to work. In this case, though, I'm imagining more of a scenario where the killer picks up the downed survivor and starts moving, but they see the other survivors' auras for the first second or so because on their screens, the pick-up happened a second later and they only stopped moving at that point. But as I mentioned, it shouldn't be too much of an issue because survivors can always play it safe by stopping their movement earlier than necessary to compensate for things like latency.
-
It's pretty annoying, but it's also fair enough in a way. Most killers don't enjoy 35 minute games where they're just constantly slugging one survivor and searching for the other either, but they consider it a necessary evil if they want to get all their kills.
Having said that, the Oni you mentioned sounds like they're just not a very nice guy. Not because they slugged, but because they felt the need to rub their victory in their opponents' faces afterwards.

"It's nice that the new HT discourages slugging. I think that's good perk design, to introduce mechanics that reward "fun" gameplay rather than punishing people for employing unfun but effective tactics like slugging."
Agree completely.
"I'd be very hesitant to refer to hooking survivors as giving up pressure, though. Hooking and slugging are just different ways of applying pressure, and the former is usually better, except under particular circumstances."
While I agree that hooking is still applying pressure, they are quite different. You can apply pressure enough to win through slugging. You are not applying enough pressure through hooking alone to win against good survivors. You would need too many hooks with not enough time. In the current meta you win through snowballing, not hooking people one at a time. We're more just disagreeing on my verbiage though than the actual premise I suppose. I was meaning to speak more in generalities than specifically.
"HT may be counterable in the same way as BBQ, but it's worth noting that the counter is more difficult to pull off. With BBQ, you have about 3-10 seconds to find and get into a locker while the killer travels to the hook, but with HT you only have the time in between when the survivor goes down and when they get picked up if you want to avoid its effects completely."
That is true. I'm not sure if I think it's enough to make the perk overbearing though.
As you mentioned earlier I do very much like the perks design of encouraging "fun" game play though. I just worry they are gonna nerf it too much to where no one runs it since it won't be worth the cost and then it's a missed opportunity on a really well designed perk. For the massive amount of bonus blood points BBQ gives it would still need to be decently better information for it to be worth running instead to most people.
What if it stayed the same but only worked on moving survivors? So if they stood perfectly still it wouldn't show them unless they moved.
That's an excellent point you make about snowballing with game speeds as they currently are, and one that I'll admit I (stupidly) hadn't considered. It's just a pity that the ranking system punishes it so unreasonably.
I think, or at least hope, that the devs have learned their lesson about overnerfing things right out the gate. They have said so themselves fairly recently. The best course of action, and the one I expect them to take, would be to wait a few weeks, see how Hangman's Trick gets used, study the data and only then consider making some very careful changes if they turn out to be necessary.
I actually really love your suggestion about having it only work on moving survivors, though I think moving should also include performing actions. So it forces survivors to stand there and do nothing for ten seconds or risk revealing their locations to the killer. It seems fun and unique, and I say that as a survivor main. My only concern is with how it would be affected by latency, but I suppose if the survivors stop moving a second or two early to allow for latency, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

I can see why they would feel that way.
Keep in mind though, it requires you to down someone to get any value in the first place. Then it also requires you to pick them up, so it discourages you from slugging. This means you also are having to give up map pressure (slugging) to get its value as well. Also, just like BBQ the survivors can simply jump in a locker when someone goes down and avoid it entirely if they aren't able to simply walk away from any hooks.
Not saying it isn't very strong, it is. I just think people might be underselling its cost. It's better than BBQ but BBQ also has a blood point bonus attached with it as well. Even if Hangmans remained this way coming out of PTB I still think you'd see people running both because of their differences.
Oh yeah, I definitely don't think it's about to replace BBQ, but it is better. Perhaps not overpoweringly so, but it's a close call.
It's nice that the new HT discourages slugging. I think that's good perk design, to introduce mechanics that reward "fun" gameplay rather than punishing people for employing unfun but effective tactics like slugging. I guess we'll have to wait a bit and see what people do with it. Best not to nerf things straight out of the gate, but HT may or may not end up needing it in the long run.

Any hook. 16m of them.
And the minimum spawn distance between hooks is 20 metres, I believe... so that's basically map-wide aura reading as long as you're carrying a survivor. That's pretty powerful, I can understand why people might feel like it's too much.

Well yeah, that's fine (albeit morally questionable, perhaps), but that's just being selfish, not actively sabotaging your teammates. From what I can tell, from the devs' perspective, the former is acceptable, but the latter is to be discouraged.

A lot of survivors ive seen say "we don't have to work as a team" anyways, and not as a "i don't have to save" you kind of way
Well, there are two ways to interpret that, in a "you're on your own and I don't have to save you" kind of way, and in a griefing kind of way. And if they're saying it in a griefing kind of way, that's actually bannable, so maybe they should reconsider their position.
-
Probably because they don't want to pit the survivors against one another, since their survival typically depends to some degree on cooperation. Selfishness is okay, but hostility less so. There's a big difference between not putting yourself in danger to bail someone out and actively sabotaging their chances of survival.

Yeah, I like that as well. I'm a fan of creative builds, so the fact that they're trying to make the meta less prominent by boosting underused perks to viable levels can only be a good thing in my view.
-
You can only hear footsteps when there are no louder noises covering them up, like chase music. And they're hard to hear if someone is moaning. Usually I can hear other healthy survivors, or the killer if they don't have a terror radius.
-
Can I have five? I know it's against the rules, but I picked five. Guess I'm a rebel too, better add "Breakout" to the list π
Alert
I'm hyper-analytical about everything - myself, my relationships, my problems, other people's problems. If I can figure out how an issue or a person works and why, it helps me to understand the person better or find a solution to the problem.
Empathy
If someone else is suffering, I drop everything to do what I can for them. Even if I'm having a rough time myself, it doesn't matter to me if there's someone else who needs my help.
Head On
I'm very driven, and tend to go to one extreme or another. I'm not very good at doing anything to a moderate degree. Everything I do, I put absolutely everything I have into it.
Inner Strength
Even when things get really bad, I find strength to make myself keep going. I've learned to acknowledge that things aren't fine and I'm in a lot of pain, without letting it cripple me.
Tenacity
I tend to think of myself as being tenacious to a fault. If I'm emotionally invested in something or someone, I find it incredibly difficult to let go. Which makes me extremely loyal, but also what one might call "vulnerable to change".
-
Exactly what @LordGlint said. People are constantly comparing killers like this, because if you get really vague about it it's easy to say that something is basically the same as something else even when they're really not.
Hillbilly and Cannibal are basically the same because they both have instadown chainsaws. Clown and Freddy are basically the same because they both slow survivors. Oni and Hillbilly are basically the same because they both go fast and have an instadown. Huntress and Plague are basically the same because they're both ranged. Hag is basically the same as Trapper because they both place traps. Deathslinger is basically the same as Huntress because he can hit survivors with his power from a distance. Except none of those killers are actually anywhere near being the same thing.
I don't think they're running out of ideas, I'm sure they have lots, but I consider it a good thing from a game design perspective to have multiple killers that can make use of the same mechanic in very different ways (like Myers and Ghostface with the Exposed status effect, for example). I think constraining themselves to having to introduce a brand new mechanic with each killer would be a missed opportunity, creatively.
That's not to say that I don't look forward to seeing more new mechanics introduced to spice things up. My point is just that the fact that they're reusing some very vague concepts like "ranged weaponry" isn't in itself an indicator that they're running out of creative ideas, nor does it make every new killer essentially the same as another that came before it.
-
As FireHazard said, we don't know, but I personally believe and hope that we will eventually get cross-play between all platforms - that is, PC, PS4, Xbox and Switch - because all platforms will benefit from a larger player pool.
I don't believe that cross-play will happen between PC and consoles, however, until the devs are satisfied that the controls on both are equivalent - either by adding KBM support to consoles, or adjusting things like controller sensitivity to match what one can do with a mouse.
Mobile will surely be excluded, though, because it's not just the same game on a different platform, it's an entirely separate game with a separate development team behind it.
Bear in mind that this is just my personal speculation, though, not official information in the least.
-
Being camped is not a legitimate reason to quit the game and ruin it for four other people, nor is bad matchmaking. You committed to that match knowing those things might happen, you should see it through to the end. That's just common courtesy. This is exactly the kind of situation that DC penalties were designed to address.
-
No, you can't lagswitch on dedicated servers, so now that they've been rolled out to all platforms, it's no longer a thing. That person probably didn't realise that their own connection was just bad.

It's because grey ranks is a combination of actual newbies, griefers, and people who just wanna good off. There are also smurf killers to take into account
Why would the same not equally be true of the other side? Killers who just want to goof off, and smurf survivors?
And if the same is true of both sides, then surely the statistics surrounding "false" grey rankers would balance out, and what remains is a bunch of new players who still seem to have an easier time killing than they do surviving.

I think you greatly overvalue the complexity of playing survivor. It really doesn't take more than a few games to figure out Gens, totems, windows, pallets. It's really simple.
And yet, the kill rates are highest at grey ranks. Surely there's a reason for that.

I have to agree with OP.
GF is the singularly most frustrating killer to go against as a stealth survivor.
Its impossible to ensure GF is NEVER near the centre of your screen when you actually need to know where he is in order to do so.
Iβd be much more in favour of ditching the locator for a much longer killer instinct notification for those survivors that choose to intentionally reveal him.
Yes, as you can see from my later comment, it turned out I misinterpreted what OP's complaint was about. I've never had that problem myself, but I can see how it would be an issue.

According to yesterday's dev update (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/130537/developer-update-february-2020), all killer powers which can break pallets will also work on breakable walls. That includes chainsaws, Shred and the kanabo.
-
Yes, and no. In theory, there is a match making system, it's just not well-designed to begin with and has at least one major bug on top of that. So in practice, matchmaking doesn't work as intended half the time - although of course, other factors like time of day and region can also play into that, as they affect how large the available player pool is.
The issues with matchmaking are something everyone is aware of, including the developers themselves, which is why they're about to implement a new MMR-based matchmaking system which they're hoping will solve a lot of the issues with the current one.
Time will tell if that does turn out to be the case, but everything we know so far about the new system comes from this post: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/124795/status-update-matchmaking-changes
