I, as a killer main, do NOT want to see SWF go away.
But let's be honest...a group of 4 rank 2 survivors is not as effective as a group of 4 rank 2 survivors using voice coms. THAT is a fact.
This game can balance perk for perk...without a doubt. For most every aspect of the game, there is a perk or offset.
Don't like flashlights, take Lightborn. Don't like pallets, take Spirit Fury. Not good at looping, take Metal of Man. Need heals, Self Care. The list goes on and on....what will NEVER be balanced is the chance that the survivors are using real time information. It just cannot be done. Buff a killer strong enough, fast enough, reduce hooks needed to sacrifice, and you have just blown balance for survivors without voice coms out of the water. I would say give SWF limited perks MIGHT work, but I haven't ran a perks or add on with my Dweet for weeks now, and I'm still above a 70% survival rate.
Might be interesting though. In SWF, 4 players, 8 perks split between them...in ANY combination...2 survivors with 4 perks, 2 with no perks....all 4 with 2 perks each. My be fun.

My ONLY regret in this game.
I know, for a fact, I could have at least gotten to P2 on Billy. But that was back when I thought "stealth" was part of a tactic for Killers. I saw the rewards and thought, "Why the hell would I want to light up like a beacon in the night"?
And that was during the days of window juking as part of the game. Normally I don't give a ######### about things like cosmetics....but this one, for whatever reason, still stings to this day.
-
Just play the ######### game....damn.

Running ANY combination of perks is valid. Feel free to criticize as you have, I just don't understand this unwritten rule that IF a killer has specific perks, win/lose, it somehow diminishes the results.
Going skydiving? Want a reserve chute? No, really, don't want it huh? Okay, go get em tiger!

AGAIN....I find out about ######### like this from another member of these forums. I didn't even know this was a thing...this sucks.
-
It would be nice....but it's been my experience that the average console player isn't very loyal. In a P2P environment that makes most games a cash grab more than a community. Not all, but most PC gamers will use their rig to find the community supporting the game they play. The community will help with the games longevity. Not all, but most console players don't seek out a game community. They watch their friends list and what games their friends are playing. Migrating from game to game based on their social circle as opposed to a community to keep and eye on, it's not long before the console gamer moves to a different game.
Example: Take this community, the PC crowd is going to be bigger, of course, the game started out on PC. BUT, if you were to break down the platforms, you would probably see that the console community here has already been through at least 2 "generations" of members. So yeah, probably not worth it.
-
Even if "balanced"....meaning; when played to it's fullest potential, the game will never feel balanced because of the infinite variable....the players.
Truth be told, this game has always favored survivors...but it's not the design of the game or it's mechanics. It's kind of just the way it happens.
When I talk about it's fullest potential, I'm talking about mistakes and errors. In this game, the killer is an opportunist at best. Killer do nothing actively to catch and hook survivors if you really think about it. They patrol the map waiting for survivors to expose themselves from hiding or make mistakes on skill checks.
Remove survivor mistakes completely, a 100% error free survivor match, and the killer won't get a single hook. No matter how "good" the killer might be...without survivor errors, your just walking around a map watching gens be completed.
The nerf to BNP confirmed this a while ago.

I guess what I'm getting at is this:
This game, the Dev communication is honestly the worst I've ever witnessed. I don't say that as an insult...just a sincere criticism.
It's like a UI....if you HAVE to explain it, go back to the drawing board. Been here for a while now and only recently learned about a sort of "Dev tracker":

BEHAVIOUR®, DEAD BY DAYLIGHT® and their respective logos are registered trademarks of Behaviour Interactive Inc. in Canada, the United States of America and/or other countries. All other trademarks are properties of their respective owners.I had to bookmark this SOB because I couldn't find it anywhere within the forums. Then this thing with double BPs...honestly, the only support it's seen is from a few threads here in the forums started by other members. Only NOW, did I find out it's in the Dev Activities. Even then...there was so much confusion about the start time, a Dev had to produce a temp countdown clock. Again...the announced start date was correct, I won't argue that...but it still feels off.
But look at this....now I'm just thankful I kind of know where to look for events. But again...

Dedicated Servers | The Player Test Build learnings
Where? Is it posted on the forums? If it is, why not just add a hyperlink?
I'll end on this....I've been around a gaming for a long time now. From 2002 - 2006 I was a NA league admin for TWL (Teamwarfare League). I handled matched for MOH:AA, COD, and COD2. I handled disputes, hacking accusations, challenges, tournament rules, challenges.
In 2006 I became a Bounty Hunter Senator for Star Wars Galaxies (Tucheck). Senators from all professions worked with the community liaison for the developers and the game (GreyPawn).
None of this makes me an "expert"...that's not my intention. I'm simply illustrating my frustration with a perceived inefficiency in communication. Perhaps, I'm willing ot admit, that for whatever reason, times have changed and I'm the one out of touch. Everyone else finds this information with the greatest of ease, and I'm just left in the dark because I'm not "trying hard enough", I guess. Then I revert back to my Principal Skinner mentality and think, "No, it's the devs who are wrong".
Look....bottom line, it's their game they want people to play. It's their information they are trying to get to people...this double DBP event kicks off in 22 hours, and with less than a day, again, the only reason I know, is because I watched a Q&A that was recorded because I was at work when it was made. Should I just consider myself lucky to have known about the Q&A and call it a day. Okay....at the end of the day, it's looks almost intentional.
-
I feel the urge...
Complete Hex build..
Hmm: Huntress, Devour, Ruin, Thrill
I would run Haunted, but I don't buy DLC....and come on, 3rd Seal? I'd only run 3rd seal to be ironic.
Any bets on how long it takes to get all 4?
-
I'll agree...I feel as though I've missed most events because they are not announced obviously.
One sec...let me check Twitter. Okay back...nope. Nothing mentioned there. David King body pillow, cosmetics, and EGC...nadda on the event. Last post was Apr. 25 about dedis.
Nothing mentioned here.
Where else would I expect a DBPs announcement?
A casual mention in a Q&A was all it got. Who the hell runs the PR for this game?
-
I take issue with changes from time to time....but I'm always willing to report problems that negatively effect both killers and survivors.
I don't have a problem with flashlights, looping, pallets, MoM, DS, or gen rushing.'
The only real problem I can think of is the way in which totems are handled in game. Totems can be very powerful, this much is understood....but the combination of poor placement 70% of the time, as well as the spoon fed notification to survivors is a bit much in my opinion.
-
Yes. Why?
-
@Plu said:
I run Ruin on my killers if they have it unlocked but I'm planning of replacing it for something more useful and more chase oriented.
For NOED i don't run it because I don't like it, it's cheap and I could be using something that worked for the entire game instead of just at the end.
NOED has changed the entire game for me more than once.
Sweaty try hards, no doubt. MoM, flashlights, body blocking...all of it. I use their arrogance against them. Even had the gates open. BBQ with NOED on Billy...just back and forth across the map. The totem was right behind the first guy I hooked.
I understand the "grimy" feeling of it...and survivors call me trash all the time for being a Billy with NOED. I'm like, come on!!!! How many perks are off limits? So now...I ignore it..if they don't DC first.
-
I do not run Ruin, I do run NOED.
Kind of the trade off.
Billy: Nurses calling, BBQ (obviously), NOED...I switch out Lightborn/Franklin's Demise/Thanatophobia
Alternate build for fun: Distressing/Overcharged/Unnerving Presence/Stridor
So yeah, I guess sometimes I don't run either. But....I'm only rank 7....so, don't need perks for try hards.
HAD to edit....my favorite set up of all time was: Huntress Lullaby/Distressing/Unnerving Presence/Overcharge I had an amazing amount of success with this build before the game started announcing to survivors that there is a totem out there to find. Then maps got even bigger, making protecting the totem they were looking for almost impossible to last. Although, within the last week I did get a 5 stack on the PTB....it was shown in my bug report video.
-
MoM is becoming more popular. When I see it proc, it's not a big deal. Go hit them again.
My ONLY complaint is that it ignores insta downs for Bubba and Billy. Does MoM ignore the "exposed" status effect?
-

If the totem was up for 2 minutes, then it has done it's job has it not?
Considering it only takes one survivor to destroy and gens can take only 5 minutes....I guess that depends on your objective. I don't think it's worth it...which is why I don't run it.
-
I'm only at rank 9, but I never use ruin...so yeah, I mean if you're talking the top 5 maybe. Not sure how far I'll get using NC, NOED (because I don't use ruin), Lightborn, and BBQ.
-
@Chi said:
High risk high reward. This can happen, but it doesn't happen frequently enough that I would say it needs to be removed. It is just a risk you take when running a hex perk. I haven't seen a totem spawn like this in a very long time.
I'll do a little montage video for you. 10 matches wherein a hex totem is destroyed within the first 2 minutes.
The problem, honestly was when the devs decided to announce to the survivors that there was the presence of a hex totem. Before this change was introduced, hex totems stood a chance, and enjoyed a brief period of usefulness. I want to say this was sometime around Oct. 2017. Now, survivors load in and as soon as they see there is a hex totem, it's a 4 vs 1, and when I say 4 vs 1....I don't mean survivors vs killer, I mean 4 survivors vs. 1 totem. Stationary, visible, no skill checks...completely worthless. Oh, and with the size of some of these map, and the limited mobility of some killers....if you don't think this is an issue, you're not paying attention.
-
I'd take that placement spawn.
Mine usually spawn where you're standing....on the hill, like a beacon of light just calling out to survivors who are drawn to it like little mosquitoes in the night. From the furthermost reaches of the map, survivors come to my Hex: Lighthouse totem! They point, I laugh, we cry...good times had by all.
-
Nothing to fix.....stop telling me how to play Killer...that's the Devs job, they won't reward me unless I perform like a trained monkey and go through their checklist....even if it means survivors won't let me...die on hook/DC.
-
I'm just thinking tier II would be the teachable. I do think it would create diversity. Not everyone can loop the same, or hit skill checks. Some people just want to live and hid ALL THE TIME....others actively seek out the killer.
My declarative statement is that some diversity is better than none. And that's currently what we have....all survivors are equal and play no specific role by character.
Meg is Killer control, Claudette is on heals, Dweet is objectives manager, and David is just a soft warm pillow!
-
"Regarding holding the game hostage and banning: We do already act on these reports, however, there's not always somebody watching around the clock".
Making declarative statements? I, too, like to live dangerously.
Just asking for a little clarification.
3 survivors in the basement, 1 killer blocking the stairs, 1 survivor free to do whatever, current live server. This situation is a bannable offense? You said, "act", not "ban".
Same situation, current PTB status including EGC?
2 remaining survivors, both in the basement, killer blocking stairs. What course of "action" would this result? This one I can understand, as there is no other option to end the game.
However, last 2 survivors, EGC started, killer blocks the stairs...should not warrant an "action" as the game will progress and end.
I'm not trying to be glib, I promise. I'm not even trying to be argumentative. I'm asking you to confirm that "as long as the game can continue" there is no valid report.
3 survivors in the basement, 1 running around, killer blocks stairs, no EGC....until the moment the single survivor escapes...the killer is not holding the game hostage. However, as soon as that sole survivor powers all the generators, opens the gates, and leaves....one second past that (again, without EGC) the killer is now holding the game hostage. Is that bannable?

@FSB75 Remove ranks and you will just got a bunch of instances where a rank 1 is against a rank 20 and it will be a mess.
Ranks serve a purpose. Despite what people say, rank DOES mean something. If you are red rank, especially after the most recent changes, then you definitely know how to play the game. You might not be the best player but you will crush any newbie you come across.
My apologies for my semantics. HIDE ranks. Should help with clarity.

Thank you for the heads up. I didn't see an announcement and these forums don't have a "Dev finder" option (Where anytime a Dev or CM responds, those replies are listed).
I really hope the PTB was a success and you got as much productive feedback as you were hoping.
See you in the fog!

Honestly, I can't do it for some reason. I've actually been trying on PTB to block the basement, and a survivor always seems to get by.
At this point, I've tried 3 slightly different positions about 3 times. I thought, right in the middle...that works, and makes sense. Nope, got around my right side. So I thought, maybe it just looks like the middle to me, but I'm not far enough right, so I'll just hug up on the right side a bit...nope, out the left.
I make sure not to swing at anyone....or hit anyone, I'm simply trying to stand and not move. I can't figure it out.
Tonight, I'm gonna try halfway down the stairs, and in the middle again.
-
Devs need to remove ranks...that's all there is to it. Originally used as a matchmaking tool for player, the thought was that it was a bonus to give payers something to play towards.
Ranks have had nothing but a negative effect of players. Devs can't get the pip system down, and use it in an effort to control player behavior. Problem is, most of these actions are out of the players control. As a killer, I hook a survivor, s/he dies on hook...there went a ton of emblem points. As a killer, I did my part. Survivor made a mistake, I capitalized on it, downed them, hooked them, and get less because they made sure they couldn't get saved. Interesting part about it...survivors lose out as well. Escaping becomes more difficult, no altruism points, no co-op points.
The rank system doesn't work unless players play exactly like the system is designed to reward players for being played.
I slug the 2nd to last survivor of every match, especially if I see them working on a gen. I use them as bait to see if the last survivor will at least attempt to help, or if they are just being non-productive hidey little bitches waiting for the hatch, The Devs think the killer closing the hatch will remove the hatch stand off situation....oh hell naws! The real hatch stand off takes place between survivors long before the killer finds the 2nd to last survivor.
Remove ranks, remove pips, and just play the damn game.
-
i was on a team and all 4 got slugged and then let bleed out. it says slugging is not bannable but what about all the team and no one got put on a hook.
The Killer loses BPs for bleed outs....but if BPs are not the objective anyway, I doubt it changes behavior.
I admire you for not DCing in this scenario.
-
What if they added a "don't rescue" feature?
Get hooked, press "insert key here", your aura turns red and you can't be saved.
Killers get robbed of a ton of BPs, but I'm sure that's not your concern. Killers only need 9 hooks from 4 survivors per match to be successful.
-
The current problem with DCs I think is the lack of ability to track them.
I honestly don't believe that when a player DCs, the game makes any note of it, or sends any information back to the "mothership". We all think it does because we get a "quitters" bonus as a killer because the game can acknowledge that there was a survivor at the start of the match, and in the middle of the match, the survivor neither escaped, nor was killed.
But I think that's the totality of limitations of the software. The game doesn't note a GUID, or the amount of times a particular survivor DCs...the game ONLY "knows" someone left. The game doesn't know who they are or send any information back to record the DC.
This kind of makes sense in the P2P environment. As the killer acts as the host...ANY and all information and event would have to be written and stored then accessed and sent back to the mothership. Could this easily be tucked away into the EULA? Sure. But it think it's a bit more complicated than that.
The last thing the Devs want to do is admit to being powerless to deterring DCing, let alone punishing negative gameplay. But that's the truth, in my opinion, nothing has been done because, currently, nothing can be done.
Enter the move to dedis...by using a 3rd party hosting server....you can bet your sweet ass they are getting all the information they could ever want about the playerbase. Who plays survivor, who plays killer, what add ons, how often. Hell, depending on the software, they will be able to tell you which player throws down the God pallet 2 minutes into a match. Believe me...having dedis will change the way in which the Dev can interact with the community. Who here really believes that the Devs access data on a killers rig and sends it back to them. This is why it was easy in the beginning for hacktards to "do bad #########". I won't talk about that. The message is more important than the example.
Lastly, I believe, with the introduction of Dedis....we are going to see real consequences. No one wants to lose players for any game, so bans might not happen right away...but the overall health of the game will flourish once the people who play the game, play the game.
-
No idea what a FMT is, but you kind of answered your own question. Use them or lose them.

Great ! Now I know why I get facecamped for no reason!
Read much? I provided a reason. A very specific reason.
Body blocking...no biggie.
Body blocking while I'm attempting to hook a survivor....face camp.
And don't go patting yourselves on the back like I'm going all try hard neckbeard German gaming kid.
It's more of a "matter of fact" attitude.
"Well, you're on the hook until death".
-
Survivor: I don't wanna be body blocked in the basement.
Killer: Don't go in the basement.
Survivor: But there's a chest down there.
Killer: Is it worth it?
Survivor: That's not the point. I should be able to go anywhere on the map.
Killer: You can go anywhere on the map.
Survivor: You're missing the point. I might get stuck down there.
Killer: So it's not worth it....don't do it.
Survivor: I'm trying to rescue another survivor.
Killer: Is it worth it?
Survivor: You're missing the point. I might get stuck down there.
Killer: So it's not worth it....don't do it.
Survivor: I want another escape route.
Killer: I was body blocked from the hook last match and a survivor got away.
Survivor: That's just the game mechanics working as intended.
Killer: And the map design of the basement isn't?
Survivor: You're missing the point.
Killer: I'm not sure that's true.
-
I've seen this EXACT some movement but as a killer.
Since I've started playing, about half a dozen times, while playing Bunny Mom, I've seen players, quite obviously, move from side to side, avoiding a hatchet thrown at them.
Now when I say side to side....I mean, 2 inches on my screen to the right or left. We've all played this game long enough to know what forward running to the left or right looks like, and I'm telling you, this looks like someone came in with a hook, pulled the survivor out of the path of the hook, and put them right back.
It still happens from time to time, and more often on smaller scales....like a sped up survivor moment (not DH, I know what that looks like)...I'll try to get a vid today of it.
Personally, I know it looks suspect as hell....bu after all these years, I think it's just the servers trying to make sense and get caught up to the game status (meaning where players are in relation to the world and each other in the world).
Pretty sure it's not hacks. But holy hell, if what I'm seeing is designed into the game as a rng mechanic, that would be very disappointing.

Streamers accuse people of sniping all the time to avoid looking bad, most of them are pretty crummy players. So it's a quick excuse.
You cannot be banned for stream sniping if you do, that has been stated by the DEVs. I don't know how stream sniping would help anyways, unless they are standing in one spot forever, since delay exists. Aura reading perks are 100x more reliable.
THIS!
It's a projection thing. Streamers care about their "quality of content", that even with a dozen or less viewers, they think other people care as much as they do.
It's a lot like people who come here with screen shots "complaining" about how much "hate" they got from a match because they were awesome. They aren't complaining, and everyone knows it...they want attention for a match no one else care about because no one here was a part of it.
I post ######### here as well from time to time, but it's more from a place of empathy and usually self deprecating all in good fun.
-
I only have one rule to be honest; Body blocking = face camp.
To hell with the rest of the game, to hell with rank and pipping, to hell with the rest of the survivors.
Teabagging/taunting....I don't care, you think it annoys me? I swear to you, it really doesn't. Makes me chuckle sometimes actually. It's just you wasting time, allowing either me to get closer or you're not repairing gens. Either way is fine with me.
Flashlights....part of the game, blind me all game if you want. Guess I should have taken "Lightborne".
Perks...DS, MoM, Adrenaline, ALL part of the game.
Looping....again, I played before bloodlust and Entity windows being blocked. having survived serious window juking...it's part of the game.
No, for me, body blocking is the biggest single immersion breaker. I feel 100% confident that if asked:
Is body blocking by survivors part of the design of the game, to be used as part of a strategy by survivors, or is it an unintended consequence of the collision physics in game.
The answer would be "unintended". The developers just can't find a better solution, or don't care about the issue as much as I do. Obviously they could remove collision....happens when a killer hits a survivor. The killer goes into a "weapon pause" animation, which phases the killer out of the world for those few seconds...BUT you kind of need collision to hit survivors. I'm rambling now, bot short of a direct quote from a developer....nothing will have me believe that the devs are fine with fearless survivors running up to the killer with every intention of just standing there.
-
As long as this game starts survivors 3 seconds distance from a killer that heads right for them there will be rage quitting As long as this game allows camping and tunnelling there will be rage quitting As long as there are sandbagging survivors and idiot survivors and trolling survivors there will be rage quitting.
As long as there are snowflakes, there will be rage quitting.
As long as people attach some pseudo sense of self esteem to this game, there will be rage quitting.
As long as people place any level of importance to rank, there will be rage quitting.
As long as the developers continue to remain impotent to rage quitters, there will be rage quitting.
As long as people feel the game is unfair because they didn't "win", there will always be rage quitters.
As long as I play the game, I won't give a ######### about rage quitters.

How does it feel to play killer with lag?)
The lag isn't the worst part of things right now.
The worst problem right now appears to be server load. Event triggers (such as gen repair, vaulting, even a player using Dead Hard) will cause the game state to shudder.
I'll kick a gen, and the timing will be completely out of sync...the gen may not actually be kicked, causing me to have to kick it again, or the kick will complete but I'm still locked in position. These things only happen for a second or a faction of a second, but when it happens dozens of times a game, it all ads up.
Bottom line, if everyone just runs around the map and does nothing...there is no discernible lag. No one rubberbanding or teleportation.
-
I do believe the current servers are virtual, not bare metal.
That said, it's possible that the current dedicated server experience will not be the final experience.
The best anyone can do is try them out if you wish. Report your findings here. If you find the game is unplayable or "un-fun", revert back to the current live P2P game.
I, personally, will be playing on the PTB servers until the double blood points event. I believe, moving forward, moving towards dedicated servers is the only option. There are a few issues facing the game that cannot be controlled with a P2P framework.
Players take these initial changes too seriously. Being critical of something is fine...feedback needs to communicate the extent to where these changes change the game. However, the "little hen/sky is falling" approach is not productive.
If nothing else, playing on the PTB is absolutely hilarious. There are players that still play this game like they bet their house on the outcome. I've had players DC on PTB....ON PTB and you're DCing? Seriously? It's PTB!!!!
See you in the fog...GL HF.

Have a good laugh at MY expense. Bottom line, 5 minutes of play before gens powered, 7 minutes of play AFTER the gens are powered. It was a blast though.
You are not alone.
FYI....good survivors understand to use the entirety of a 1st hook on all survivors, one at a time, to use that time to repair gens.
-
Anyway you want honestly.
I've face camped.
I've tunneled.
I've gen jockied.
I've done all of it.
I've done none if it.
There is no correct way, and each killer had different advantageous strategies.

You know there's a whole other planet, right? It's a good time for us in Europe.
I won't take too much time addressing this because most anything I say will come out as entitled or arrogant. Yes, although I'm American and I'm well aware the world is much bigger than "us". However, my ignorance leads me to believe that the U.S. has the largest market share for DBD, as well as the company being based in Canada...seems strange to hold an event happening in Canada tailored for Europe.
It's just my opinion, and not of much consequence either way.
