- Open the DbD forums
- See a post with the sentiment "survivors can't have anything nice."
- Open the thread and see that the "nice" thing in question is the opposing role being so completely obliterated that only the top ~5 Killers would be viable.
- Lol
Jokes aside, It's actually incredibly frustrating the amount of people who are staunchly defending the PTB changes, even when confronted by the ojective reality that the system had major oversights that rendered it unable to be safely pushed to live. It's not even a matter of opinion — it is a verifiable fact that the system failed to account for an unacceptable number of things.
Take Twins for example, a Killer whose power is completely reliant on slugging. Given that the anti-slugging system completely removes slugging as a viable strategy, you'd expect Twins to receive some kind of a rework, compensatory buff, or exception to the system to keep them playable despite the changes. Did this happen? No. It was overlooked.
What about trap Killers whose powers facilitate controlling an area of the map, making it difficult to reliably use the unique hook bonuses. Were they accounted for? No, it was overlooked. Meaning their ability to defend generators would be considerably weaker due to the perks being nerfed and their inability to utilise the unique hook benefits.
What about perks like Breakdown which make Survivors unhookable? Surely the anti-slugging system wouldn't punish Killers for slugging when the Survivors are the ones who forced the Killer's hand. Nope. Again, it was overlooked.
What about Killers who cannot choose which Survivors they kill? Onryo and Pig have little control over who dies to their power as the counterplay is in the hands of the Survivors. Surely they won't be punished for Survivors' misplays? Nope. The system didn't account for that.
I could go on, but you get the idea.
It's actually scary how many people just refuse to engage when you bring these up. Instead of going "Alright yeah, that's an oversight that needs ironed out.", they hit you with a downvote and bury their head in the sand so they can continue pushing the narrative that this was unreasonable Killer mains on a crusade to make Survivor as awful as possible. Like, no… Lots of us also play Survivor, and also want to see improvements come to the role. But this was clearly not a good implementation of that and needs further work.
People are acting like BHVR has completely scrapped and and all possible improvements for Survivor, when it was very clear in their statement that they've just temporarily pushed them back. It's exhausting.
At this point its just like when a kid says to the parent 'How come [sibling] always gets [X] and I only get [Y]'. Literally every time I open this up. It annoys me when its killers doing similar stuff too but this just feels weird.
Of course a company who just got flamed for a full week (by multiple affiliated content creators btw) is going to delay and make changes. They just got every bit of evidence that this is a bad change and now they (rightly) need to reconsider at least some numbers and at most entire mechanics.

I'm not a toxic player, at least not on purpose. Almost every match I have, killers are friendly to the other 3 players that are constantly blocking me In corners until the killer comes. Showing me off when I'm hiding, opening lockers I'm in etc.
I main Thalia, used to main Meg. It doesn't seem to be my charecter main. How can I stop this?!
potentially they don't like you hiding, even if your team gets you killed don't stop playing how you want to play. Stealth is very valid in multiple circumstances (like if you are the only one on death-hook) and its a good skill to have, just try to leave that comfort zone every now and then.

Sure… but small incremental changes are much easier to gauge their effect than a full blown Sledgehammer.
Like lets say Elusive was all that was needed to seriously cramp tunneling. If you only explore this mechanic as part of those Sledgehammer changes you don't get to see it in action.
What if we made it so loud noise notifications are disabled within the smoke of Fog Vials (and give them more charges, cause dear God they got over nerfed). Maybe the killer HUD fog effect they have on the hook rework that obscures an unhook can be used when a survivor is caught in the Fog, so that trying to tunnel/interrupt a hook is more ambiguous makes it so you can get baited/duped around the hook? Maybe you can take Reassurance and fake a Fog on a hooked Survivor to bait the killer and waste their time for more gen presure.
I don't disagree, incremental changes have their benefits but they probably panicked after the ptb exploded and want to hold it back if you get what I mean. If anti-tunnel needs redoing they probably want to give everything another look over and maybe (just maybe) this'll mean the patch will have less bugs with more time spent on it.
Also I do like that strat for the fog vials it sounds like it'd be really fun tbh.

Why not add: -
- Elusive
- No Clip with Endurance
- Remove the unhooked Survivors aura from Floods of Rage
This part is relatively unintrusive and would certainly be worth throwing up to the PTB/live to see their effect on the game. You can then look at adding further effects if needed.
May be that they want it to be an entire package which will all be released together. I think that would also let people chill out a bit after this ptb before showing the new stuff off.

I think its him and if not…. The thing is, I believe that kill rates will drop dramatically after the changes. Yes, camping, tunneling, and slugging are frustrating, but I think the developers have interfered too much with the killers' gameplay in the past. What's left for the killers to do? They can't do this, they can't do that, and it's getting worse and worse. Either genre regression/block perks are getting nerfed, or other obstacles are being put in the killers' way. The MMR system is solely responsible for this. Everyone wants to win, and that's the main problem.
Killers who have the most hooks should be the best in the game, and if they manage to get kills, maybe they should get a small bonus on their MMR or something like that, but this blunt kill/escape system doesn't work anymore. And why? Because the survivors are constantly complaining. Killers, too, for that matter, because the generators fly too fast. It's always the same arguments. That's a fact.
yeh I agree. I remember tunnelling in almost every game I've played, BG3 target the hardest hitter, Battlefront 2 just tunnel the weak link in heroes vs villains. There are very few games where it doesn't exist and I feel like punishing it too heavily would just make these games less fun as it looks like it might with dbd.
Although I haven't checked it yet because I'm on a break from dbd because when you eat the same food too much you eventually get sick of it.

They're still heavily tweaking 2v8 and integrating killers and maps into it. A lot of their IP is not compatible with it yet.
true but what I meant tho was like a pre-emptive announcement, I feel like that would harbour a ton of use for BHVR in both generating hype and getting feedback on what the players would actually want for that mode. But idk maybe I'm just giving them too much grace.
-
If that's the goal, why not just announce that 2v8 is going to become the new flagship mode?
I feel like there's some merit to this idea tho, but its probably more like 2v8 was the testing ground for these new changes not the origin.
-
I mean, they're nice but if we're thinking of this like a carrot and stick. The stick is way too big for the majority of the killer cast and the carrot is practically a baby carrot.
-
depends if the killer is good/ fun to play

Cause Killers need significant changes to function will in the new game mode and those changes need to be tested too.
As well as changes to other Killers from recent feedback.they also need to program the bots so they aren't either a free win as survivor or killer.

Yeah seems a lot more fun of a choice now. I want a Boon class though
I think boons should be something for every class but if you choose to bring one then you sacrifice most of your power in exchange for being to get it back and give it to others in the boon radius. I think hexes should be similar.

I think the term "broken" talks about code and bugs rather than power-wise. Do the Ghoul and the Clown are overpowered now? Yes. Are they seriously bugged and not working as the developers intended? Not really. And Kill-switch is only for bugged that affects the matches hugely.
this is what I meant. I meant broken as in not working, not overpowered.
-
@AcesSpeedo said:
why did last stand get kill switched but the ghoul and clown didnt lmao
anyways i will be dc-ing the moment i hear the ghouls terror radius from here on out as i have reached my limit. thanks.
edit: so let me get this straight, when a perk isnt bugged (last stand) but doesn't work as intended it gets killswitched but when a killer power isnt bugged (ghoul) but doesnt work as intended, it gets left as is for months??? I WILL NOT BE GASLIT BY THIS COMMUNITY. I WILL NOT BE GASLIT BY THIS COMMUNITY. I WILL NOT BE GASLIT BY THIS COMMUNITY. I WILL NOT
Last stand was bugged tho and didn't work as intended. The hitbox when you vault a window doesn't slide with your character it teleports to the other side. On last stand it teleported too fast, therefore giving invulnerability when vaulting windows, therefore it got killswitched.
I assume you're referring to kidnap tech with the ghoul, and if you are then yes he works as intended. It's an unintended interaction with his power that will take a lot more time to correct because it's his power that's the problem. It stops you in place (as its meant to) and while the survivor is stuck he vaults (as he is meant to when he hits a vault). It's just two interactions his power has working one after another, it sucks but he's not broken, he's just working too well.
And clown is the furthest thing from broken, he runs as he is meant to. Even if it sucks to go against.
-
bait used to be funny
-
because ghoul isn't broken. You can argue he's overpowered or unfun but he works as intended. Same story for clown.
Last stand is bugged, therefore it is killswitched.
-
I think a lot of the issues come from the engine update. To put it simply they had to transplant all the code to a new engine, so if it worked well enough before hopefully the actual code causing the issue should be fixed rather soon. It's possible this wouldn't be necessary, but in the case that the issues are actually a massive coding error (and not just a discrepancy between the engine versions) then I'd 100% suggest sacrificing a chapter. New content cannot be profitable if it does not work, as much as I like houndmaster, this is why she's unpopular.
EDIT: forgot to clarify that I meant recent issues in the first sentence.
-
This is a cute way to play. However, of a survivor makes it free enough I will gladly tunnel. I don't mean being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I often show mercy in that situation. I mean having been hooked, seen that I had forever entwined and agitation and still going for flashlight saves and sabo's. This is something I had a few days ago and it was hilarious.

The problem is that's the whole map and thats every coldwind variant.
These are terrible but they work decent with lithe or something. I see them more as stall tiles than full on looping tiles where I can potentially set up a save but yeah, they suck to be stuck on.

I dont know if anybody else has experienced this, but this is the second match in a row where i have spawned directly into a blights terror radius, and he has just started dunking on people IMMEDIATELY.
can we get a patch soon here to fix like, literally anything, clown, spawn points, anything?I had this when I ran lethal on knight, literally they were on the other side of the tile next to me and I was able to start a hunt practically instantly.
-
You don't buy the ghoul dlc for ken, you buy it for forever entwined.
As for the traps, maybe like pig with tv's said keep 2 for late game. Then maybe try running something like a hex that'll also waste survivor time and give them something else to worry about on top of the 2 early traps.
I know that plaything (or whatever they renamed it after Cenobite left) is decent for this but I can see something like nothing but misery or devour hope being other decent options.
Also ghoul isn't S he's A below Dracula.

Yeah the perk can get you up, but you need tenacy, boon heal , soulguard + the perk.
Yeah obviously if you are in a pallet stun situation and the killer cant pick you up you have time to get up, but it still requires healing someone else or yourself. But i asume "yourself" isn't intented here.they were both visibly enjoying themselves, and I think those synergies should stay just make it proc at 40-50% that way things like gen kicks aren't punished since as killer the natural inclination after a down is to kick a gen (when available) then pick up. I'd love to try out this perk synergy tbh I just don't yet have exponential or soul guard unlocked.

This serves no purpose. This is only hatred. I'm hoping it amuses someone. But as far as critique of this game goes, it's not even critique. It's simply, hatred.
I think I finally snapped today. I looked upon the godless beast which is Dead by Daylight, and saw a greater monster than I saw a monster hiding under the beasts stomach. So many decisions other players couldn't comprehend, I had made excuses for the design of. Things like, giving survivors the offering to group each other up, and killers the one that spreads them all out. I thought Behavior was intentionally giving both sides the option to handy cap themselves to get better at the game, and I respected the idea behind it.
But now, in a game against the ghoul. I had teammates her healing. AGAINST GHOUL! Like they would against Legion, but that was fine. Because they could have been new. They didn't know healing against kaneki was pointless. But then, I watched as a bot, got in my way of finishing a generator, just so it could come up and start twerking, telling me we should heal, and I realized, "oh. Behaviour literally doesn't play their game anymore."
Stop making the bots, heal against killers they're not supposed to heal against, please.
this went a direction I did not expect but can support

I think for me, they could have just capped the uses and maybe done away with the noise suppression and allowed noise.
My main point and I’m going to stand on business for this is if you release or make things more advantageous for the opposite side than the side using it, why would you pick it for your side? There needs to be a reason for it to be picked on the side using it. That’s just the natural path of logic in PvP for a very vast majority of people.
tbh if the noise was just left normal I'd probably be okay with higher opacity even.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had any issues with unreasonably high ping in matches since the hotfix yesterday.
My placement isn't perfect and I'm currently in a region where my ping is 90-130ms at best. But yesterday after uploading hotfix it jumped to 400-500... I somehow managed to hook the survivors 3 times but then I realized that neither me or them were having fun playing this. Forced to DC. It's impossible to play on the survivor as well, I was forced to DC again.
Have others had any serious server and optimization issues? Or should I just wait 2 months before moving to another region where the game servers at least nearby...I live in the UK so my closest server is london, therefore I don't usually experience high ping. However I sometimes see EU players (like someone from slovakia yesterday) and they always have the highest ping imaginable and not in the hit through pallets way but in the fly in the other direction randomly way. So its definitely a server issue. Maybe BHVR is experiencing server problems since the FNAF and TWD chapters and all their new players.

Or maybe like every 15 sec aurareading for 2sec. (the numbers are adjustable ofcourse). Or you could make that this effect doesnt work in a 16m radius around the killer so if the killer is chasing somebody, the other survivers know THAT hes getting chased but not where.
those would all work. Kindred is a powerful effect and I feel like giving it out in whole for free would be too much, but soloque needs something along these lines that way the survivor environment gets much more level between SWF and solo.
-
@taktak1 said:
Hello im Killer Main, and yes i am suggesting a survivor buff.
I dislike that the skilldifference between randoms and SWF ist very high. This is because for example when somebody is hooked in a SWF group they can talk to each other who goes to rescue and the other stay at the gen while in a random group all people are running towards the hook or nobody does.
Sometimes i have somebody that i hook that dies on the first hook just because noone comes.
To lessen this effect i think the 2nd part of kindred should be basekit, so as soon as somebody is hooked the Auras of all Survivors are revealed to each other. This effect would mainly be a benefit for non-voicechat groups. Since Voicechat SWF know where they are anyway.
I think giving them full aura reading on all survivors may be slightly strong for a basekit buff. I'd probably say reveal the aura of the closest survivor to the hook because remember, a swf is almost never perfectly coordinated and this may just buff them massively.

I’m definitely not the only one who’s curious about this, but I definitely feel like there are some choices that would make perfect sense for this game. In my personal opinion, I would love to have some one Bane from Batman or Violator from Spawn as killers for the game, and even on the survivor end of things I’d love to see someone like John Constantine or Hank Pym. There are so many options that can work in this game to the point where I’m genuinely curious on what the Devs themselves would think.
I want conquest from invincible or homelander personally. They both have very saturated tones IG but they both have the temperament to be scary.
-
I usually float between a lot of killers, but the ones who are most accurate to the label are Xenomorph and Knight.
Xenomorph because I thought hey he looks cool (at this point I hadn't watched the film), and I just got good with him. Now I have way more appreciation for him having seen the films and not to mention, the sound design is peak.
Knight was the second killer I actually tried at getting good at, and I loved him so much. I like the feeling of being in command, like in a strategy game, and knight really captured that well. Then his big rework came and I solidified him as my secondary.
Recently I've been playing a lot of houndmaster though.

maybe you ended up on the 4th dimension server.

I agree, we've seen it just now with the fog vials when for all we know the devs are just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing if it sticks. This is a new item and to me it just seems that the devs are testing on the widest platform they have to get the best data and feedback they can. The response is perplexing to me.
-
My only issue was the ambient noise and the fact they messed with spirit + singularity's powers. Other than that there was nothing wrong with them.
The opacity was definitely hit too hard, but I doubt they'll stay like that forever. A lot of people liked these (including me when I played survivor) and I assume BHVR is testing the extremes. Without the Iri add on the only use case is probably to hide scratch marks.
Although, I think they need to have some opacity difference between killer or survivor (for killer its a bit more opaque) because when using them altruistically I sometimes messed up my friend to the point he banned me from using them.
-
I agree on the clown buff, fog vials and ghoul. Clown needs reverting, the ghoul needs his counterplay given more thought and I think the vials need to have at least their opacity increased again (I can see where they were coming from with the volume and limit tho).
However I'd argue springtrap is a lot weaker than you've represented. Sure his door placements should be oriented more so they're facing gens so survivors can see the display but other than that he's pretty much Low A-High B. Nowhere near the level of current ghoul and clown. He can be oppressive, but if you counter the axe he basically becomes powerless Oni or blinkless nurse. The only other thing to think about is his undetectable, but I'd say he needs that, its what gives him his bite.

We still don't know if the charge nerf will actually do much.
For example, will Vigo's Fog Vial have 5 charges, and one of the add-ons will add an extra charge on top of that? Because I don't think most people are using this item over 6 times in the same match.
yeah true, and if they do, the chests still exist. Hopefully the next chapter has a perk like pharmacy for fog vials. Adding that with limited uses should provide extra steps for people specifically wanting to meme with them because it is fun to use but I don't think unlimited uses are healthy at all.
-
I don't say this to invalidate what you're feeling, but maybe hold off on the uninstall. Fog vials are very new, they were never not gonna be tossed around and messed with like this because BHVR needs to see how they work best.
I still forsee fog-vials having good things in their future. And hopefully the limit isn't low like 1 or 2 but is something like 4 or 5. Also remember that the next chapter is an original chapter and it'd be a shame if there were no perks surrounding this item since there are so many concepts and ideas they could provide.
edit: adding this to illustrate my first point

Yeah there's good and bad here. I would've done 37% rather than 33 and left the Iri as it was but the volume is a very good change.
