So you're using Steam and Twitch (each third party software) to gain a competitive advantage?
I do completely agree with your earlier post that the game should have voice communication built in, as it's impossible to balance without it.
Steam profile viewing is built into the game. Players advertise their Twitch with their in-game names. No 3rd party services are used.

It's what most killers do now they are tired of the toxicity of swf do there daily and leave lobby dodge when they see 3 to 4 items being used
I check Steam profiles, TTV, matching names, matching outfits, or four of the same item. Four items isn't an instadodge from me, especially if I can fit in Franklin's.

No. Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.

Because the game came out in 2016 and any game such as this which does not allow friends to play together or bans for comms would die pretty quickly. It's called commercial suicide and a game is designed to make money afterall.
While comms give and advantage they are not the same as 3rd party software to show auras constantly or increase speed.
The real question is why do you think that any dev team of a mulyiplayer coop assymetrical game would not allow friends to play together using comms.
The question is, why did they balance their game without comms in mind if they're encouraging their use? The game isn't balanced for comms, so they provide a competitive advantage.
And using 3rd party software for a competitive advantage is the definition of cheating.
They need to buff solo q with proximity comms and rebalance the game from there if they expect and encourage the use of 3rd party communications software.
It's unfair to the other players otherwise.

I can emote to follow and point at where the hex is to a random teammate as well.
You act as if it is that big of a deal. If you suck in solo queue you are going to suck in SWF too. Skill is not dictated by any amount of comms information.
In other words telling the person who immerses most of the time “Hey the killer is coming your way!” Isn’t going to somehow make them better at running the killer.
I don’t buy this whole “gap” because in over 5k hours I have had more matches where I’ve won while facing SWF. Many times they are weaker because they are easily baited due to them being ultra-altruistic.
Making killers stronger (especially those who do not need it) could overtune them and make them less balanced, and nobody wants to play on easy mode.
SWF obviously want to play on easy mode with comms, though.

If You go to the official DBD discord where they made a lobby you can join to meet others and create an swf to play with. You can also create a room there and play the game using comms.
It has been stated many times comms is not cheating as this myth has been going on since 2016.
This brings up a good question.
Why does BHVR encourage their players to utilize a 3rd party software that provides a competitive advantage? You don't encourage people to utilize 3rd party cheat engines or bypasses, but you do encourage 3rd party chat software that allows survivors to bypass the use of information perks, freeing up perk slots and allowing them to coordinate in a way that solo players cannot...
If using 3rd party software for a competitive advantage is cheating, then why does BHVR encourage survivors to use 3rd party software for a competitive advantage on one of their official platforms?

you know i agree with this. when play with swf , killer should have 6-8 perk. because swf already coordinated with other player on pre games, which player bring BT, DS , detective hunch perk, prove thyself, Object of Obsession. it makes swf stronger. Thats why when facing a swf group killer should be able to bring 6-8 perk.
I don't think extra perks is the best answer... Providing extra aura reading for survivors, allowing them to see one another under certain conditions, and proximity comms would help to even out SWF and Solo. From there, giving the killer an aura ping every sixty seconds or so... Maybe even increasing the killer's base speed by 1% across the board would be enough to even the playing field.
Of course, whatever they're doing for the early game rework will help, too.

Dbd is one of the few games I can think of that a friend group has an advantage over because of the 4v1 aspect. Compared to other games where it's more team based. It's such a massive advantage, and considering the state of the game. It's severely difficult to pressure a decent swf, due to 4 people having communication, and you are a single person doing it all on your own as killer. No matter how good you are with that killer. It just becomes stupid how easy it can be in a friend group. Solo is a much better time, because it allows fair play.
It makes me miss Evolve.

great idea guys and when all killers quit or switch to survivor how are survivors going to play?
Precisely. Numbers are already falling...
Sidenote: BHVR is hiring a head of QA and QA team lead, so they don't currently have QA management. It explains the issues they've been having recently.
Second Sidenote: They're working an a new unannounced IP, so it looks like they're diverting resources away from DBD...

if i run one of the two though, its going to be corrupt on setup killers such as Hag or Trapper.
Corrupt actually has negative synergy with Hag. It pushes survivors into you while you're setting up your web, interrupting your setup phase. Hag works best with Ruin in my opinion.

Players like this are what's wrong with this game.

Okay I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but for the sake of the discussion topic I will admit that my swf group is on comms a lot. Not to bully the killer but to hangout and chat. Inevitably that leads to us giving each other pertinent information like shouting "Oh sh*t he's after me" or the occasional "I'm coming to save you"/"I got the save" as they come up in conversation. Hard to not talk about what you're doing right that second.
I will also admit this is cheating. I'm in no denial about that.
Personally I'd prefer it there was an unranked mode or something like that where me and my two friends could go to not mess with people who want to play the game as it was intended to be played but there isn't so when I want to play with friends that's where we end up.
That being said swf sweat squads suck. It's one thing to have a team actively cooperate against you and do well and another to have them seemingly being guided by the hand of God to counter everything you do so I get where this persons coming from. Its frustrating, unfair, and gets rid of any of the advantages killers get with information denial perks since they can just communicate everything that's going on. It also means they don't have to use perks or add-ons for extra information. Gives them the opportunity to use other perks that they'd otherwise not have room for if they wanted to use information gathering perks. So yeah its cheating and understandable to not want to play against those people who are also often rude, taunt the killer, and think that their own skill and not the massive advantage comms gives is the reason they destroyed the killer during the match. Plus it's kinda hard to tell if they're using comms till the game starts and you're penalized for leaving if you do realize that's the case mid game so you're often just stuck grinding through it.
Thank you for your honest and nuanced take on this. If more people were honest about the state of affairs like this, we'd be able to actually make progress toward a balanced game experience.

Actually it was stated on stream by McLean that SWF was always intended to be added in the game its just at the time they only had time to release the game with either that or kill your friends and they decided to add the latter first for the initial release.
time stamp @ 9.10 just in case it did not copy right.
But no mention of comms, especially 3rd party programs. Playing with friends is one thing; gaining a competitive advantage through the use of 3rd party software is completely different.

As a killer main, the one map I always feel that I have an advantage on (assuming I'm not fat shamed) is Sanctum of Wrath. High vantage point, small area, plenty of ways to sneak up on survivors.

I have to say this is not the case with every SWF, nor my SWF group- not only do they bring along dead weight (me), we've had dance offs, accidentally sandbagged one another, tried to meme with favorite Killers, etc. It's incredibly fun, but not a sweat SWF by any means. Sometimes SWF groups just want to enjoy hanging out 🤷♀️
You'll have to pardon me if I'm not willing to take the chance that a SWF group isn't actively communicating information between one another that they wouldn't otherwise have in game.
Whether you admit it or not, it is a form of cheating. If you use voice chat in DBD to communicate in-game information, then you are cheating. Full stop. I'm sorry, but that's true by definition.
Lobby dodging is the only way I can avoid that kind of cheating.

I highly doubt in their ability with this games code, servers pinging everyone's location, and things of that nature....also it's a stretch from the "grounded" sorta way they've done characters so far.
If they affected time at all, and honestly I don't think they do, I imagine it would be just regressing generators or undoing the last action's effect taken ie a heal or some such.
Rewinding time or the actual locations of everyone/everything I almost guarantee is never gonna happen.
It could honestly explain why the desync existed with dedicated servers; they could have updated the infrastructure of the game to support the power.
-
This was my thought, also. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time rewind idea is an issue balance-wise, though. But if that is the power, it could explain the desync issues as they updated the infrastructure to support location memory.

I don't know about you other killers, but I'm real damn tired of generators getting done before you can even get to them.
Either use gen slowdown to play a standard game, use Hag or Trapper to set up for a mid-late game, or run NOED/DH/Bloodwarden for true late game.
Those are the options excluding high efficiency mobile killers.

Any time that I single pip and manage 2k or more, then I consider that a win. Safety pip is a draw regardless of the number of kills. A 4k and a double pip, though? That's a crushing victory.

I'm sorry that so many people are blaming you for wanting to play a game while having epilepsy. They don't know what they're talking about or they would be more understanding; as someone with epilepsy, myself, I understand where you're coming from.
You should always separate yourself from the source of stimulation, especially if you feel an aura coming on. It's different for everyone, but I prefer complete silence alongside covering my eyes to help combat it. Focusing on my breathing helps. But, of course, my epilepsy is more controlled than some, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
As for things you can do in game, avoiding flashlights and not playing Doctor are the main ones. I haven't had any issues otherwise.
Best of luck!
For people who don't understand photosensitive epilepsy, it's caused by specific visual triggers. Most generally, this is a repeated pattern of dark and light in a rhythmic fashion. This is why strobe lights are a non-starter. But this also extends to simpler things. For example, I can't play FIFA games because watching the repeating black and white of the ball has caused seizures for me in the past; however, I can play most other games without issue. As it's so specific, the correct answer is not "then don't play the game." The correct answer is "do what is comfortable for you and avoid your triggers."

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/229785/unpopular-opinion-tunneling
The reason I hate tunneling is because it sucks out all the fun for the survivors. The one being chased will become increasingly frustrated while the others repair gens with almost no worry and become bored. Yes, it is a strategy. Is it viable. That's debateble. Are you a ######### wad for doing it? Absolutely. There's no way around it. How you play is ######### and unfun to go against no matter how you look at it.
Again, it's not the killer's responsibility to ensure that the survivors have fun. In fact, their responsibility is the opposite: kill the survivors as quickly as possible with a few gens done as possible. Hook them and take their items. That's it.
-
@apathyinc said:
Tunneling, like other things in this game, a tactic that makes the game easier for a player. A lot of people seem to want easy games so they sacrifice other player's fun to get what they want.

It's like Freddy as a perk.

Why would anyone pay someone for doing an objectively bad job?

I find it strange that you've seen positive performance increase. I feel like it's tanked after the update. What had been running very smoothly before now hitches constantly.
Because it's a lie that they're feeding us to try and placate us. If they don't do damage control immediately, DBD will die before the end of the year.
-
@Mandy said:
We have no plans to revert the changes, the vital system processes that have been changed will help us to build a better game in the future, the new updates has also had a positive effect on the performance of the game on all platforms.
We'd much rather improve the features upon Community feedback rather than just revert as this would remove lots of important fixes that we need to continue improving the game.
Cool story. Still losing players.

Pretty much this.
We also communicated in advance about the UI etc in our Q&A Stream where we explained that because console doesn't get a PTB we wanted feedback from that section of the Community, not just the small amount of players that played on the PTB.
We've confirmed that we're going through all the feedback that we've received since release of this patch on all platforms, and will address these in upcoming patches.
I'm confused, then. If the PTB is for feedback from PC and the live version is for feedback from console, then why not just let the QA team do its job, push to live anyway, and then take feedback after the fact to try and "fix" things the community objectively hates? Why go through the farce of the PTB in the first place? Why use the community like lab rats instead of having QA sort through the game?
-
So, if all four survivors are running this, the killer could gain 28% of haste...?
-
@ProfoundEnding said:
The purpose of the ptb isn't to fix any or most of the bugs/issues present in the patch released directly after that. Unless of course it's a game breaking bug.
It's purpose is so that the hot fix we get directly after the update doesn't take weeks longer then it usually does.
But even then, the hot fix still takes forever and doesn't address all of the issues. The devs push forward with features that get negative feedback, too. It seems like it's an exercise in arrogance and stubbornness.
-
@MeltingPenguins said:
A good PTB would look like this:
1 week ptb. one week pause. another week ptb with the updated version. repeat if necessary.
This. Exactly. Even if it disrupts their schedule, it produces a better, more enjoyable, and more polished game.

Note that the peak player count for the past 30 days is lower. The only reason that the Avg. Player count hasn't dropped more is because BHVR is offering login rewards to artificially inflate their numbers. Even if a player is only engaging with the game once a month or so, or even if they're taking a break due to the state of the game, chances are good that they'll take the time to login and get a free login reward.
BHVR is using this tactic to keep up appearances. It keeps the corporate suits happy, it convinces new players that the game has a healthy player base, and they use it to (falsely) discount commentary about player loss.
I haven't played the game in over a month. I entertained the Halloween login rewards, but I've stopped for the advent calendar. Until the game is in a better state, the game is down a killer, and survivor queue times are that much longer.

I've played both. I do my dailies, and I fill out my rift. However, I main killer. There are so many killers to choose from, so the gameplay can always be made to hold my interest with meme builds, etc.
Survivor is too boring, repetitive, and dependent on strangers (I don't believe in SWF because fairness and decency) to be entertaining for me. Maybe it's just my ADD, though.
-
Cypress mori is for entertainment purposes only.
-
That incentivizes long-term tunneling. Moris, by design, incentivize tunneling, but limiting it to only one survivor curbs tunneling as a tactic.
-
DH's invulnerability is fine. Using DH for distance isn't. It allows for the survivor to make it to another full loop that they wouldn't have otherwise been able to.
If DH allowed a survivor to tank a hit without a speed burst and forced them to mend afterward, then I'd be okay with it. It would be a self proc'd borrowed time without a speed boost after being hit. A killer could somewhat counter it with STBFL.
