Lights Out and Chaos Shuffle, one of the most unique and fun game modes DBD cooked up.

Lights Out going back to DBD's old roots and actually try to make it a scarier game. No Perks, no BS, no Terror Radius, nothing but a dark fog covering the entire map.

Chaos Shuffle, gives killers and survivors random perks and addons that it feels like gambling for a specific loading out or perk you want, it was chaotic and fun.

But now in the 10.0.3 patch, the two modes are coming back after 2v8 DOMINATED the lifecycle these past couple of years and…

    Ummm..

    BHVR?

What on Earth are these changes?

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/YQE0GAYV07RY/image-2026-07-23-215739057.png

    First things first. LIGHTS OUT.

Survivors holding the Lantern will now grant them Windows of Opportunity for absolutely free just by holding it.

BHVR.. What is this? Lights Out is meant to be this sort of return to form like gamemode where it's pitch dark and you cannot see anything unless you got the candle from the Castlevania iteration. WHY ARE WE GIVING SURVIVORS WINDOWS FOR COMPLETELY FREE?!

This just defeats the entire purpose of the mode for being this more dark and scarier vibe of the game because a Survivor can basically hold the lantern all the entire game and basically to map out the entire trial by doing sweet F All while the killer gets absolutely NOTHING to compensate for this.

CHAOS SHUFFLE on the other hand is the most alarming. Every single perk and add-on are basically available to be used randomly in Chaos Shuffle, more specifically add-ons that completely change the killer's power or make their abilities completely useless, like Sadako Tapes, Scratch Mirror Myers, etc.

Basically meaning "you playing a Michael Myers in a Chaos Shuffle Match, got Scratch Mirror but no Haste Perks? Sorry.. Unlucky. Good luck walking 500 miles to a survivor on gen permanently slowed down."

Literally, Chaos Shuffle and Lights Out in the previous incarnations since 2024-2025 is FINE, no changes required. Quality of Life fixes and sorting Dredge's Nightfall problem in Lights Out? I'd be sold on it, but giving Survivors completely FREE information on walls, pallets and vaults by grabbing a light source and basically allow add-ons that COMPLETELY disable the killer's power depending on the killer is baffling at best and completely ruining these game modes at worst.

The only gamemode that isn't affected by changes like this is 2v8, the mode that is starting to lose it's steam and having the most barebones changes.

This is tinfoil hat theory and this may sound absolutely stupid, but the main reason why these outlandish changes is because DBD Twitter [more specifically Twitter survivor mains] literally cannot handle it when their toys are taken away from them, especially in Light's Out case. They can't use perks to nyoom their way out of the map, they can't use perks to give killers the middle finger like DS or slugging builds. They want the game played by themselves or get an edge in winning the game so BHVR gave them free Windows for the sake sabotaging what makes Lights Out great.

As for the Chaos Shuffle changes.. I don't even know WHAT their reason for that is. Did BHVR forget WHY this was implemented? Just so Killers don't get screwed over by addons that screw them over in the match. Why are we enabling that? Because at this rate, I'd rather play Kaneki or any killer that is barely affected by these changes instead of getting screwed over by a game of chance.

Now before you go and throw your "Killer Main" accusations at me, I play a lot of survivor, when really I want to play more killer, but with these constant patches of perks that rarely seen the light of day getting nerfs, [Thank god Sprint Burst and Vigil nerfs are one step fowards on the right track] refusing to killswitch Streetwise due to a gamebreaking bug a long time ago until the community forced them to put their foot down, the absolute boding of Skull Merchant and over-nerfing thanks to the 3 Gen meta with her, the absolute destruction of perks that forces survivors to rethink their strategy like Franklin's Demise, The Black Banquet being the most hilariously bad and underwhelming event from BOTH sides giving survivors legal cheats and throwing poison for killers and the entire Walking Dead Chapter period.

This is starting to become absolutely ridiculous as time goes on and I'm not sure if I'm going to be there for the 11th anniversary or not. But the little bit of nerfs like 2 second Sprint Burst and 40% Vigil is giving me a TINY bit of hope, some semblance of hope we might be getting on the right track.

But for BHVR, PLEASE keep making some good updates to make the killer role feel decent again, especially for M1 and other lower tiers while slowly overtime tone down the other survivor perks that dominated the game over the years.

[PS make Hindered the only status effect not affected by Vigil and my life is yours]

Someone who not only came here to complain, but whose complaints are completely valid AND explained perfectly without sounding like the typical "my role needs buffed and theirs needs nerfed" argument?! Will you marry me?

Jokes aside, I've been looking into these game modes coming back soon and checking out the changes they announced, and you explained my thoughts on this perfectly.

Chaos Shuffle was never an exciting game mode to me. I only saw it as a way to avoid all the meta builds that made the game too easy for most or nearly impossible for lower-tier Killers (and everyone I play is considered B-tier or lower). It was also a way to discover Perks I never use and realize that I should include some of them more often, but more often than not, I was given a build that was useless or even negatively affected me. The new randomized add-ons make me not even want to play some Killers for the same reasons mentioned. Some add-ons will just make them completely incompetent unless you get lucky with Perks that balance out the negative effects.

Not much to say about 2v8. It was fun getting my friends, who never play Killer, to try it out with me. However, once they added and changed things to make Survivors stronger than before, my friends rarely down anybody and no longer want to sit in a queue for at least 20 minutes only to watch almost every Survivor escape consistently. So now I usually have to solo queue while BHVR seems to have gotten bored, as they hardly balance anything or add new Killers to the 2v8 roster.

Lastly, Lights Out was amazing. It actually made DBD the scary game of hide-and-seek it should have always been. The thematic second release for Castlevania was interesting as well. The Candelabra maybe needed to be tweaked a bit, but I'd take it in that form any day over the new Lanterns. Without Scratch Marks, a single Window or Pallet can leave a Killer dumbfounded in their tracks. The panicked sprinting through the dark, desperately trying to find a way to escape your pursuer, was Lights Out's entire charm and added to its fear factor. Now I don't even want to touch it as either Killer or Survivor.

One thing I think they should do is go back to thematic game mode releases like they did with Castlevania's Lights Out and Resident Evil's 2v8. The last 2v8 that was "themed" around Attack on Titan was a joke. It changed absolutely nothing in-game and was only advertised to sell cosmetics.

  • Unpopular DBD opinions that would get you downvoted?

Warning: if a video game opinion genuinely triggers you, don’t read this thread.😂

I applaud you @Venusa. Phrasing it in a way that not only invites people to share their controversial opinions, but also makes them think that they have a perfect opportunity to argue with you. That's the absolute best way to get majority of the community to engage in anything related to this game.

I'm not even being sarcastic. Trying to discuss or debate anything related to this game is a good way to get little or- even more likely- no reactions. However, as soon as it sounds controversial or provoking, it explodes into a entire discussion.

This isn't even intended as a insult towards the community. It's a observation. Any post that says something along the lines of "This meta perk is OP/needs nerfed", "This Killer is broken/perfect", or "There are to few/many Pallets" will get at least a few replies.

However if you say something like "What do you think about this game mode?" or "What do think about this as a improvement?", you'll be lucky to get a comment or two, sometimes just an insult towards you or your idea without any explanation.

So encouraging involvement without actually giving a hard focus for conversation is a perfect way to get many people involved, because now everyone is discussing… or arguing various topics on the same post.

  • Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen. Jason is being added via "Jason Universe" and not "Friday the 13th". It's a complicated ownership issue, but the best way I can sum it up is that, from what I understand, they can't use anything from the currently existing movies without getting more parties involved. They can use Jason and his mask, as well as Camp Crystal Lake I believe, but not any other characters like Tommy Jarvis or anything unique to the movies.

  • They are in pictures and videos like the one @MortalKombxt shared, but I remember it was at the 17 maybe 18 minute mark because I messaged my friends saying "I think it's just a static image" the same time they rode past. The timing made me laugh at the time.

  • My favorite part was the person riding past on their bike. In all of the confusion, it's impossible to tell what was intentional and what was ineptitude.

Everyone thought this was going to be a big reveal or at least a good hint, but this was a pretty big fumble for the anniversary with the set-up and the execution so far.

  • I actually wanted to discuss the game and got completely ignored. I point out that the community loves to argue and not only do I instantly get replies, but immediately attacked.

2v8 I just find more interesting with it's potential and it's easier to consider balancing when there's less than 10 pre-made classes and a more limited roster compared to the hundreds of perks, most in need of being adjusted.

The "tourists" that play 2v8 were mostly people that used to play regularly and couldn't handle the stress of playing either side and the hate they got for being forced to run stale meta perks or Killers in order to have a fighting chance. Even if they do just play how they want and accept the consistent losses, they usually still received hate.

At least in 2v8, Killers has someone to lean on and survivors don't have to worry about busted perks.

  • ⬆️Proving my point.

  • My bad. I forgot for a moment that majority of this game's community only want to share opinions when they are not wanted or when the conversation is just Killer and Survivor players arguing to eachother about which side is worse.

  • I made a similar post not to long ago and I've played hardly any matches over the past few months due to how common this type of behavior has become to the point that none of my friends are willing to play anymore. It's incredibly rare that action is taken in cases like these. I've only received enforcement confirmation 2 or 3 times in the 7 years I've been playing.

Like @HPhoenix said, they don't do anything unless it's a hacker and they find evidence that proves it without a doubt. Lastly, @Crowman tentatively stated they may not even respond to submitted tickets, which I can guarantee they don't. I've submit at least 3 tickets with clear video evidence and never received confirmation of action. I only received responses that can be summarized to "We'll look in to it eventually".

I think there lies the issue. What you listed is stuff they are unlikely to ban someone for and some of the other stuff there is most likely not enough on the video to prove that's what happened.

I believe they only send a notification if the ban happens. If they don't take action you won't get a notification. I would need someone else to confirm that though. In the 5 years I've been playing I have only reported two people. One I received an notification that they got a ban there other time I didn't receive a notification of the outcome - guess because no action was taken.

If they don't care about punishing that kind of behavior, why do they have selectable categories for reporting players who do these things? That's very redundant and performative. It may sound pessimistic, but what I'm hearing is that the answer to my original question is one of my original predictions—that they simply don't care unless it involves exploits, specifically hacking.

u can submit screenshot and type those in the chat from image upload sites or links to ur vod, also nowdays u can simply copy past within the chatbox.

I guess so, but like I said, I play on console. That’s even more steps for console players than for PC players, since we have to download captures to a mobile device before we can upload them anywhere. We also have to manually type out links because we can’t just copy and paste.

Ultimately, isn’t it bizarre that players have to jump through extra hoops just to get a standard report acted on? From what I’ve heard, they won’t even do anything anyway unless it involves a hacker.

  • @azaxydbd said:

Yes, especially if you have evidence to share, i got so many people banned for exploits.

Ok, but do you play on PC? I play on console and none of my group ever receive confirmation.

  • @PleaseRewind said:

What are you reporting people for? Care to share examples?

As a console player, there's no point reporting Communication Abuse because we aren't given access to post game chat. I personally don't think I've ever seen a obvious hacker, so I rarely report for Exploits either. So it's primarily Gameplay Abuse/Trolling or Unsportsmanlike behavior. Being AFK for most or all of the trial, not participating by hiding or doing laps of the outskirts of the map the entire trial, rage quitting, survivors allowing themselves to be hooked or working with the Killer, Killers working with survivors, bodyblocking, holding the game hostage, etc.

    @azaxydbd said:

Yes, especially if you have evidence to share, i got so many people banned for exploits.

What do you mean by "evidence"? If you're using the in-game reporting system, you can type the reason for reporting after selecting a category, but I don't see any way of submitting recordings or screenshots through this system. There's not even a way to view match replays that I've ever seen.

When I do submit directly to the enforcement team, I have my console record the action in-game, download to my phone and trim it to less than 15 seconds before submitting it. It won't allow me to upload anything longer than that. The result is the reply emails I mentioned previously and I very rarely have ever seen confirmation in game.

I prefer to use the in-game system as it's less of a hassle, but I can't submit evidence there and console players weren't even able to type a reason until a update within the past year! We were only able to select a category and submit. Are PC players able to submit recordings or screenshots when reporting in-game? I've never heard of that before.

    @ShanoaLegendaryPlz said:

Im not sure how it works myself, and if the cheaters ever found out how it works theyd find a new way around it. Ive never used video evidence myself as i don't even know how to record stuff on the screen, but ive succesfully reported atleast 30 cheaters and atleast 5 or 6 griefers. The other thing i noticed is if you interact with griefers verbally its like it just voids your report. And the successful report thing takes 1-7 days or so. Sometimes long enough that i don't even remember who i reported lol. Nowadays i think the report system has drastically slowed down.

From what i understand it takes more than just you reporting them. Perhaps the other people that reported the same person, put in video evidence and then they tallied it all up and pushed the button finally.

Things like the instakill teleport to basement nurse seems to go through with bans the fastest as everyone they meet hands in a report and it piles up fast. That is if they don't end the game fast enough to bug the score screen like the recent bug

I've never talked to any of them verbally, but sometimes they end up sending toxic messages if they happen to also be a console player, but I don't think that voids a in-game report because Behavior doesn't have access to that.

Also, before my friends abandoned this game over the past year, We've reported people together for the same behavior and I never seen action taken. I'm beginning to think there is some sort of flaw with console reporting and it's extremely rare it's ever acted upon. I'm assuming all of you confirming that you do receive confirmation are all PC players. My friends on console have never received confirmation either during their time playing.

  • I completely forgot they changed the effect of that add-on. I thought it still swapped the colors of the gasses. That would have been even funnier if you won with only that.

  • @Steakdabait said:

Killer was doomed the second they gave it scamper. Think they would have learnt from having to straight remove it from chucky and then massively nerf it on the ghoul when they tried again but oh well. Killer is still absolutely brutal in the 1v1 after 3 nerfs but you just get so cucked by body blocking that it doesn't matter if the survivors actually play as a team

Honestly, I feel that the Chucky nerf was brutal. I wish they had just slowed scampers speed so it was similar to vaulting windows. That would allow survivors to still slow him down without completely gutting one of the two things he has an advantage in during a chase, and he would be able to avoid things like Chemical Trap a bit more easily.

Now his height is the only bonus he has, which is still very useful. I personally just liked scamper more than a crazy lunge attack. Since the nerf, they’ve kept slightly buffing Hidey-Ho to improve his stealth, but I really didn’t want him to become just another ambush killer.

  • I agree. I haven't played as or against Houndmaster for months. I encountered bugs multiple times that made me stop playing her. Some of which, deactivated my power for most of the match. Shame, I liked her playstyle, even if her cosmetics are lacking.

  • I've been honestly waiting for a Barry Wheeler skin for him ever since Alan Wake was added. Cover him in Christmas lights and he'd be my most played survivor.

Theyve already revealed that Dustin and Eleven are the new Survivors, with Eddie and Robin (Scoops Ahoy outfit from S3) as legendaries

I already found out from the video that dropped Dec. 25. I'm just pointing out that they aren't updating some of their media platforms.

  • I frequent 3 different platforms that BHVR updates from and it seems like they are in no hurry to update any of them most of the time. The one I visit the most still hasn't even announced what characters are coming out tomorrow. At this point, I only hear about things if they post a official video about it on their YouTube channel.

  • The Twins were in my top 3 killers when I first started playing this game regularly (outside of Halloween season). Now they are down to number 13 according to my stats.

Honestly, I would love to play them some more if they got some better cosmetics or added to 2v8. I'm not sure how they would work in 2v8. Also, Nature's Respite, Harrowing Time, and the Sailor/Stowaway skins are all good, but none of them are amazing.

You had me until you said Fortnite.

  • Chucky's new Christmas skin is the first one that comes to mind from recent additions.

  • When I made this discussion, it uploaded instantly with no issues. My other post was longer than this one and it popped up a message when I tried to repost nearly 2 weeks ago.

Not sure if it's because of the holidays or what, but this really has killed any urge I had to come up with any ideas for this game. The post was about Survivors in 2v8 and I was working on Killers in 2v8 until I noticed this. I'm putting it on hold until I figure this out or until I get annoyed and just give up on this game. The latter is starting to become more likely.

New accounts/accounts with small amounts of posts get flagged on their automated system to protect from spam if you do certain things. If you post too much or you edit your posts, they'll be flagged for a Mod to look at to make sure they're not spam.

Once a mod looks at them and approves them, they'll show up again. They don't really work the forums much on the weekend so your posts probably won't be back until Monday or so. The same thing happened to me when I first joined. If you post more, just make sure not to edit them at all after the fact.

I'm not sure how long before the system stops flagging edits, I think it's based on total post count? For me it was around 50-100 or so when I noticed I could edit. I don't 100% remember though.

Well it's been almost 2 weeks since I tried to repost it and it still hasn't appeared.

  • @TWiXT said:

Hag got nerfed a few months ago in a way that did 2 things to her power:

    1. Survivors can destroy Phantasms by slamming pallets on them.
    2. When using the Scarred Hand add-on, which makes Phantasms have collision with survivors, Survivors can pass right through the phantasms for 3 seconds if they get struck by the killer first.

That 2nd nerf to Hag has me wondering if, in the spaghetti code of this game, that nerf to hag affected Trapper in the same way, i.e. Survivors can pass over traps if they were recently struck by the killer.

OP, did you hit that survivor before they went over that trap, or did it just not activate?

No, it was a healthy survivor. I was playing 2v8 with a friend during this instance but it happens regardless of the gamemode or realm pretty often.

  • Thank goodness! I completely missed the livestream because I didn't hear about it until a day after. They should really mention these twitch drops are available when you check your inbox in-game. Alternatively, stop using Twitch drops all together, because they have issues properly unlocking once earned. I still haven't received the Legion Pumpkin Carving profile picture…

  • This isn’t the first time I've heard someone ask for bots with selectable difficulty and it won't be the last, I'm sure. It would definitely be nice, I agree. I practice against bots often and some Killer abilities are essentially useless against bots. I don't think this will happen anytime soon because BHVR is still focusing on the slugging, camping, tunneling prevention. From what we have seen this far, it may be a while before they figure out something that works.

  • I wasn’t a fan of this chapter when I first discovered it. I don’t really like the origin or lore of characters like this, but I understand that’s what some people enjoy. Before I even knew what her ability was, I expected her to have a ranged or dash attack because that’s simply what players tend to prefer these days. Her having both, with such a short cooldown, is incredibly brutal. Anytime I play as a Survivor and realize she’s the Killer, I seriously consider going AFK until the trial is over or just disconnecting.

As someone who used to enjoy playing Killers considered B-tier or lower, I didn’t enjoy playing as her either. I only played her once, using only her three base perks while staying in Head form the entire trial. I still managed to sacrifice three people and almost got the fourth.

People may argue that one trial isn’t enough to prove a character is overpowered or underpowered, but I’ve seen enough of other Killers — and enough Krasue matches — to realize how incredibly easy she is for an average player to use, even on their first try. I think I’ve only escaped from her once, and honestly, I don’t think the person I was queued against had much experience playing Killer. They still managed to get about seven or eight hooks before we all escaped, and I don’t consider myself particularly skilled in chases either.

The perks that came with her didn’t look too good, either. Especially Wandering Eye, which bizarrely seems to encourage tunneling. Exposing people with Ravenous doesn’t seem to fit her playstyle, since Head form can already down Survivors quickly, and Body form is really only useful for breaking pallets and infecting Survivors for Head form to finish off. Overture of Doom is basically a Hex version of Trail of Torment, but it only affects one Generator. Trail of Torment just seems better in my opinion, since it can affect any Gen you kick and lasts until a Survivor repairs it or it hits zero charges.

The only two positive things I’ll say about this chapter are that visually, the Krasue and Vee both look great, and the Krasue’s chase music is one of my favorites.

  • I just encountered the same thing in Mother's Dwelling. I have a video that I'm probably going to submit in a new bug report.
