Lol you didn't play with the old matchmaking. SBMM has proven to be objectively better in multiple ways including statistics and data.

I played with it for an entire year and being a new player back then was significantly easier and matches were much more balanced. Now the system just feeds 8 hour Megheads to cracked 8k hour Blights. Very good system indeed! And we don't have access to official stats so the only ones we have are watching high level players getting ~80% winrate as opposed to the desired 50% on both ends of the spectrum. The matchmaking is functionally worthless by all standards.

  • Sadly, the matchmaking is at its absolute lowest in DBD's history and the development team is too arrogant/incompetent to wanting to fix it and actually fix it. I heavily empathize with anyone being a new player right now, it's a miserable experience and there's no words of encouragement I can give. Hope that VHS will be good feels very lackluster, but until there's actual competition in this genre, DBD is going to reign supreme in its sad, sad state.

  • The sad thing is, BHVR is especially slow to make decisions, so the issue of power creep is even more noticeable in DBD than in some other games. Just consider how long it took them to give Trapper the one extra trap people were telling them for years. And he is still thrash tier without the reopening addon and a map offering.

  • About 3 or 4 days ago. I usually run into one every month.

  • @Satelit said:

After the security issue with the last PTB definitely not.

If you are talking about the IP leak that hackers could exploit for DDOS attacks, that's still in the main game every lobby you enter lol

  • Blight and Nurse.

  • The moment we have Boon:Decisive Strike I'm never entering another lobby without it. As a SoloQ player it's so frustrating to see that 2/3rds of my teammates don't have it when every single match boils down to how fast can the Blight tunnel out the first survivor.

  • Still better than SoloQ. Barely, but better.

  • I once renamed myself to "Horsie Perk OP". I had 3 sacrificial ward offerings from Killers in 10 matches and I didn't have the perk equipped. Good times.

  • The last official info that I recall is that any new killer that you haven't played yet starts with -200 MMR points compared to the one that has the most. So if you hit the soft cap of 1900 with say Trapper and then bought Nemesis, you'll start with 1700 MMR points.

But in practice MMR doesn't work so all the technical information is meaningless.

  • 9 out of 10 games one of the survivors spawn on top of ruin. No, I actually started counting, it really is 9 out of 10 matches, I put on Lethal Pursuer just to check.

  • "Do the totems instead of the gens" build:

Hex: The Thrill Of The Hunt

    Hex: Haunted Ground

    Hex: Plaything

    Hex: Undying

I legitimately 4k-ed on more than one occasion.

  • Blight, Blight, Blight, Nurse, Blight, Blight, Blight, Blight, Blight, Nurse, Nurse, Blight, Blight, Blight.

  • I honestly can't tell with this matchmaking anymore. Some days it will be adorable potato survivors running around and then at other days by the end of my first chase three gens popped. And it doesn't matter if you win or lose you will continue to see those survivors until you log out and start a new day.

  • "Did you have fun?"
I wonder when was the the last time someone earnestly gave a 5 rating.

  • 1) Nerf Blight (I mean basekit, adrenaline vial and alchemist ring never should have been a thing, delete them forever)

    2) There's nothing fun about VS-ing a Hillbilly. If he is good at curving he is going to hit you no matter what.

And before someone accuses me of being a survivor main, I don't think there's anything hot about the take that the maps need a heavy rebalance to make them fair or that SWFs are OP.

  • I genuinely don't know. People say that COH killed him, but I didn't see him that often even before boons. I'm glad either way, Oni's soloq stomping power is up there with Nurse and Blight. Absolutely despise games vsing him.

  • Silent Hill is just perfect.

  • As others have said it, it's Legion. Which is a shame, because I actually quite liked them prior to the COH meta.

  • I understand your frustration but you can't deny the fact that no hockey team has ever lost a match because they camped the generators.

  • Kindred: So much value in basically every game, it's crazy good.

DS: It's 2022, there isn't a single DBD match where someone doesn't get tunneled.

  • The truly sad thing is that if they had just only tweaked the emblem system so that it was tremendously more difficult to pip up, it would have been a totally serviceable system. Unlike this absolute miserable failure.

  • New accounts start at 900. Soft cap is 1900. The system is willing to work with 400 points of difference. Maximum possible gain is 50 I think? So theoretically you can start facing the creme of the creme after you have won 12 games. Obviously not very likely, but we have plenty of Killer mains who in all likelyhood have multiple times the soft cap, yet the system gives them people with 8 hours in the game. The system is functionally useless.

  • Had a very nice Bubba yesterday that let us farm and leave after somebody DC-ed five seconds into the match. Cheers to that person!

  • I see you don't play hockey. Or else you would understand the arcane arts of escape=good, MMR ignoring values anyway for quicker matches. Sad!

  • SoloQ survivor is pretty much half luck after gold let alone red. Blight that runs OP addons? Some survivor DC-s. Nurse? Sweet, sweet DC value baby!

With the matchmaking being as it is, Killer is pretty easy even if you do run into a few seal team sixes every now and again.

SFW survivors can do it pretty reliably.

  • I would say that in addition to his unrivaled faceamping ability to secure 1 or 2 kills every game no matter what, it's also important to note that he is a very well rounded killer. His skill ceiling isn't as high as someone like Blight, Nurse or Oni, but his instadown chainsaw is very powerful (especially now with the COH meta). My games are consistently good with him even if I get a seal team 6 that demolishes me in 6 minutes. When I get really tilted playing Trapper, Legion or Wraith, switching to Bubba is a surefire way to get a good match to finish the day on.

  • Worse. It was supposed to address lower level play, but it didn't do such a thing, it now pairs up people with 8 hours with killers that have 8000 hours. If you watch any big name streamer, you'll see that survivor mains who escape most of their matches go up against killers that you can literally spin around in the open 5 times, and killer mains are brutally massacring little baby survivors with maybe one looper that understands the basics just isn't good at it. It's an abysmal failure that would get you an F grade if you handed it in as your semester project in university.

  • The ideal solution would of course be to make an actual, functioning SBMM. However, as long as Patrick is in charge, I would feel more comfortable with no system at all. At least random chance will give us some fun games.

  • Favorite: As a SoloQ survivor, nothing quite beats the feeling of a bunch of randoms coming together and pulling off some really high risk basement prison break. It's just so satisfying when everything clicks despite not having the ability to really communicate and we all safely get out.

Least favorite: very highly skilled killers. Getting an 8k hour Blight or Nurse is just a question if we all die within 2 minutes or 3.

  • Also don't forget that if a survivor wiggles free when you are standing on a ledge, they will be really slow after the fall and it might give you the edge that you need. That's how I got the last Claudette on Haddonfield of all places.

  • Sadly, the current matchmaking system is very much broken with new players going up against people who have plenty of experience under their belts. Unfortunately, the only real thing that one can do is to bear with it until they get good. It sucks, I know, but thanks to Patrick, this is now the way of things.

  • As a last, desperate measure, you could change your name to "Hatch Challenge", there are the occasional non sociopathic killers that will let you have it.

  • And even if you escape low ELO hell, you'll find yourself trapped in the ELO Ping Pong Zone where you face a 10k hour nurse slugging everyone in less than 120 seconds, only to be bumped down to face an average killer that's beatable, only to be bumped back up to the 12k hour alchemist ring Blights etc.

  • Sadly, MMR doesn't work.

  • Absolutely! I would love to practice looping/flashlight saving timing in a less stressful environment. None of my friends are interested in DBD so I have nobody to practice with and as such I only improve in normal matches, much to the dismay of my teammates who probably bash their head against the keyboard when I drop a pallet too early or too late to save them.

  • Step 1: master Nurse.

    That's it, there's no step 2.

  • Quite miserably. I decided to give Legion a go after COH was introduced to the game. Pain, suffering, agony even.

  • The only time I play him is when I get a daily or a tome archive, he just doesn't feel fun to play as. Which is sad, since hitting survivors with a baseball bat should be almost as satisfying as punching them in the face with Nemesis. Main Event is garbage too.

  • Did you play survivor to see if the other end of the spectrum is just as broken?

Sadly that's HOW it's supposed to work but you can't have a SBMM in asymmetrical game like DbD. The game is ment for the 1 Killer to have more power than the 4 Survivors while making it that the Survivors have enough items and Perks to give them a chance at escaping. It will always be a 1v4 game that can't translate well with SBMM.

We have Survivors that will crawl and hide most of the match and escape while the Survivors that loop the Killer, make risky saves, bodyblock , etc don't survive and the game says the ones who hide all match have more skill than the latter. As broken as the emblam system was it gave more balanced matchmaking, and I'm not saying that it didn't have its own issues but was better than this

Also there are fewer Killers playing so it will match a Killer with let's say 1500 MMR will get paired with a team with a average MMR of 3000 or more. (That's just a example I don't know how the blasted system works)

New accounts start at 900. Soft cap is 1900. The matchmaking system is willing to work with a 400 gap. At 1500 as a Killer, you can almost play with babies one match and then get an elite death squad next game. It's just like hockey!

I'd like to think MMR would works the more you play. After each bad match you go down until you hit that level where you can enjoy yourself.

Maybe get to a point where you win a match, and lose the next on purpose so you can stay at a more chill level.

Idk. All I know is I can't play this game at high MMR it's a miserable experience sweating for 3 or 4 hooks and spending all match breaking pallets and walking

I've played over 800 matches with SBMM enabled and there is no difference between now and back then. 9 matches against Nurses and Blights who all mastered their respective killer and 4k before 3 gens are done, then a match against some 200 hour killer that can't even use his power properly getting stomped with 2 hooks and repeat ad infinitum. Nobody is playing against the people they should.

  • Guys, guys, I know that at first glance it looks bad that the matchmaking system is pairing people up at random. But have you ever played hockey?

  • Agree. All the people shouting at the top of their lungs that people will DC, people DC all the time anyway. And if they have a large penalty already, they'll just run at the killer or unalive themselves on hook. The penalty isn't solving a problem.

  • Would be nice if depiping got removed. Stuck at gold rank 3 because good luck getting 5 matches in a row where there's enough to do to earn your pips.

  • It was horrible even in the testing period. At least in the emblem system you had to do stuff to get to Rank 1. SoloQ could be utter hell, but at least a portion of the matches were balanced. Now it's either 4k at 3 gens left or 2 hooks for the killer and we are all out. Literally unplayable.

  • Props to the Tapp on Azarov today that ran the Bubba for the first 3 gens and then patiently waited to die in the basement so we could all get out.

It's opposite, since all the survivors loves gen simulator and escaping at 3 minutes, if you don't tunnel out a person you have no chance to "chasing and having fun", it's literally the only option remaining to play for fun.

Without tunneling, you'll likely to get 5 gens done within sub two digit hit or so... I mean don't expect everyone to playing at low MMR, even if you are playing on extremely low MMR.

    Stepped on a toe I see :)

  • Some people just never mature emotionally. If they don't 4k every single game that they play they feel that their PP has decreased in size. And since tunneling is the most efficient and reliable way to 4k, it's a predictable end result. They don't care about chasing and having fun, for them, 4k is the only thing that brings fulfillment.

If you bodyblock, pig has more reason to tunnel because she can pressure all bodyblockers that way.

I understand the utility of it, I'm just surprised that every single one did it. Normally, you can at least entice the occasional killer that way. We did break up and cranked out gens so there were 2 people getting out, but this trend is wild.
