Why do ppl pretend that MMR has changed anything?

You still get basicly random ppl

you either get sweaty tryhards or absolute potatos.

It was always random and you had basicly no control over it unless you played on a new account to smurf.

Some ppl either think for some reason MMR is perfectly accurate which means they think that only high skilled tryhards are at high mmr or some ppl say there matchmaking got worse. Ppl are just projecting everything on it cuz its always easy to blame something that got implemented.

Is mmr good and does it work well? No

Did the old ranking matchmaking work fine and was good? No

Do I have to say anything else?

  • Perfectly summed up my thoughts, it's almost completely random for me now which makes my games far more fun.

  • MMR annihilated my hope that the game will reach it's potential.

Two years on a system that gives us the exact same matchmaking as before.

Ye can be fun, I still prefer having more control over it, rather if I want to tryhard and get matched with tryhard ppl or not however I wouldnt say my experience has gotten worse BECAUSE of MMR. I would more so say that we got over the time much more tryharding swf squads or ppl.

Agree it was very dissapointing to see how they hyped it up just to give us that half ass ######### that even monkeys could do. Like for real even hearthstone has a better MMR and its a simple 1v1 game.

  • "Did the old ranking matchmaking work fine and was good? No"

IMO the old ranking matchmaking stopped working once they pretty much removed Rank Reset. When they added that you get only set back 1 Color, it started that:

    • Killers who dont really belong to Red Ranks are almost all the time in Red Ranks and face Survivors who belong there
    • Survivors who dont really belong to Red Ranks are almost all the time in Red Ranks and face Killers who belong there

Before, this would only happen near the end of a "season", but with the changes they have done, it happened basically immediatly.

And their reasoning behind this was pretty nonsense (in general AND because of something they did later) - the reasoning was that someone who does not have that much time to play will not be able to reach Rank 1. And IMO it is completely reasonable that players who play more, get more.

However, once they changed this, the overall quality of Survivors and Killers in Red Ranks really dropped. And at this point, they seem to have decided to implement an MMR-System in a casual game with lots of factors. And since you cannot take all those factors into account, they just boiled it down to escapes and Kills. Because, you know, if I play Blight and get 9 Hooks and a 1K I am worse than another Killer who gets 2K with way less Hooks than me.

You only really felt MMR the first month after implementation and afterwards, it is pretty much random. You can get really good Survivors one game and then stomp 4 Babies they next game. Or, you play against one of the best Killer players in the game one day and the next day, you face Killers who dont even know how to run common tiles.

And, the funny thing, and why I said that their decision to reduce Rank Reset was nonsense - now, you get set back to Ash IV, the lowest Rank possible, meaning that players who cannot play much, will not get as much as players who play a lot. Which was the sole reason why they changed Rank Reset back then AND which lead to these awful players in Red Ranks and this mess of MMR.

IMO if they would have tweaked the Emblem-System a bit and made Rank Reset harder again, it would have been way better.

  • Yeah I don't really notice a difference. They could have made zero changes and lied and people would still create their own narrative out of nothing.

    FINALLY

    Someone else thinks that way.

Red Ranks was never good per say, but it was way better before they made Rank Reset a joke.

The game will never reach it's potential unless a serious overhaul of management occurred, it's clear Behavior are complacent with letting this game remain flawed until fans begin to cut into their wallet.

Agree, I would even say the current emblem system with ranks (grades) is fine enough for the state of the game and THIS should be our matchmaking, sure potatos can also reach iridiscent 1 but it is WAY harder for them so you will have a smaller chance to meet those players rather then how it is right now with the mmr.

  • The truly sad thing is that if they had just only tweaked the emblem system so that it was tremendously more difficult to pip up, it would have been a totally serviceable system. Unlike this absolute miserable failure.

I'm going to have to..... Kind of disagree with you on that. Not totally though.

I agree, not all red ranks were equal and once they changed rank reset it was all blurry....and diluted and.... A sticky situation.

    BUT

As a fairly low skill killer i can tell you that once i faced red ranks (thanks botched match making) , even if for more skilled people like you they were bad, to me it was like a navy 6 squad and usually a bad experience.

So yes, ranks were by far not the whole story, but saying it meant nothing and they were all bad... That's where i feel like our opinions diverge.

    Exactly bing bong boy!

I'm dancing on the emblem systems grave hoping it never returns for ranking purposes. It was pure cancer on the survivor side on the higher end, several of the emblems rely on limited resources in a match so just safety pipping would often be a mission & you'd have to keep worrying about other survivors stabbing you in the back because they'd be after said resources too.

I lost count of the number of times I was left to die on hook because other survivors HAD to make sure they get at least 2 gens done just to black pip

things like this could always be tweaked, also keep in mind that many other killers also suffer from emblems still to this day. One shot Killers dont get compensated in the chase emblem for their insta downs, so you will most likely black pip if you are lucky and this is just one example of many.

  • Well I did notice that the first month of it constantly put my against sweats. I came back a week ago to get the event cosmetics on the same killer and got more of a mixed bag. So either people got their mmr boosted by good teammates or mmr got broken, and this was with no backfill. I would usually load in at the same times the survivors would in the pre-game lobby.

the reason is very simple, the max mmr (the cap) is pretty low, its not really that hard to reach it. You can reach it within a day or two of just playing, since ppl apperantly came back by time since MMR came out they all eventually reached the cap and now we are all within the same matchmaking basicly just like back then with the red ranks.
