For balancing purposes.
If the devs balance around swf, then solo queue players will get steam rolled by killers.
If the devs balance around solo queue players, then killers will get steam rolled by swfs.
So they decided to bridge the gap between solo and swf, by giving solo information that swfs already get via comms. This way they can balance around killers and survivors as a whole.
So far no attempt was done to bring killers on the same level as swf squads. It's almost like the devs only play one role.
-
Two things immediately come to mind:
1) What on earth is that screen resolution?
2) Did this guy microwave his graphics card?
-
No amount of sex-appeal or fanservice could salvage the godawful gameplay on this new killer. She's downright awful and in need of an emergency rework.
-
The only thing this killer excels at is being made a fool of. I still don't get why she can't set up drones close to hooks, it'd be her only saving grace but even that is being denied. She's absolutely atrocious to play as. Easily on par with release Trickster, no kidding.
-
Incredible how survivors get to bully the first E-tier killer of the game. Only a single hook while they rushed 5 gens. This is downright unplayable. Where's the hotfix for this dumpsterfire?
Who the hell builds drones without giving them the ability to shoot at targets or blow themselves up? How are they of any actual help to the Skull Merchant?
-
Playing this killer only opens you up to relentless ridicule. They keep looping this killer throughout the game while the rest of the team is genrushing. NOED is the only saving grace and the reason why I even was able to secure a second kill. I only had 3-4 hooks throughout that match (including the endgame one).
-
Wanna know what's the worst part about this release? The fact that we had to wait FOUR entire months for such a severe disappointment. I can understand weak killers being released but making us wait so damn long for them is even worse. This is also the 2nd killer in a row who's objectively a failure. If the anniversary chapter is yet another original chapter then they seriously can say goodbye to any income for the rest of the year.
-
As if killers didn't struggle with perk diversity enough, now they're gutting scream related perks. And the perks which are deemed viable get nerfed, too. There's literally no way to placate the devs and survivor mains.
-
The game is severely survivor sided right now, the release of the Skull Merchant doesn't even address any of these issues and feels like another insult to killer players. I've drastically reduced my playtime these past weeks, only playing a single match per night at most before closing the game again. It's simply not fun anymore.
-
A severe disappointment.

Licensed characters aren't part of the discussion since BHVR has no real control over them.

I only spend money on licensed chapters, this is yet another original killer with an underwhelming power who will end up forgotten real quick. Only gonna use my iridescent shards, just like all the other times. I currently have over 40k saved up so that's nothing to me.

because m2 killers can’t m1?
M2 killers prefer to get their downs with their abilities, anything else is just an invitation to get looped for 5 gens.

Have you heard of… Jolt?
Jolt only triggers on m1 attacks so it's pretty much garbage on killers with m2 abilities.

Na na na, firstly we need to destroy Pain Resonance too. Buffs for Killer-Perks? U cant be serious, this is BHVR we are talking about. Holding Hands is the newest hobby in this dev-team. And bringing Auric-Cell-only cosmetics.
The greed is very much real. Pretty much every new cosmetic release recently was only available for auric cells and nothing else. Also despite claiming that they'd give us iridescent shard prices for skins that are over a month old there are still several skins in this game which are locked behind an auric cell paywall. Just take a look at Dredge for instance, his doll skin is still auric cell only.
-
M1 killers are literally unplayable. I recently made a thread about it and all I scored were around 20 losses in a row (with 2Ks being the best possible outcome). The moment I switched back to Pyramid Head I was winning games NONSTOP, infact I'm on a 30 winstreak with him right now and it doesn't even matter who my opponents are. They cannot win because chases are so short that I don't even need to worry about being genrushed. I don't rely on Eruption either, the perk's only a crutch for those who need it (aka M1 killers).
-
I do have a secret weapon which goes by the name "Triangle Father". Wanna know why I get so drastically different results on him? It's the fact that he can end chases almost instantly with his m2 ability. Combined with aura reading perks (I stack them on him) he always knows where his targets are but beyond that I'm also capable of predicting where survivors will run off to.
That type of skill however cannot be applied on m1 killers like those which I've been grinding on nonstop, they simply lose because their chasetimes are absurdly long. M2 killers are in league of their own, M1 killers meanwhile only exist to get bullied and made fun of.

It's honestly just ridiculous on some maps. You can just hold W from pallet to pallet to pallet to pallet and if you can't antiloop, it's basically impossible to ever get a down. It's fascinating, in a horrifying "why is this even possible as part of a game" way. Two people, in a completely non-interactive sequence.
######### like this is why I'm unironically bringing Brutal Strength these days, the average amount of pallets is far too high on maps. They need to halve their count at least otherwise survivors will keep abusing them until all gens are done and you're left with doing nothing but camping that one persky survivor who threw down every single one of them.
Before anyone bothers to say: why not switch targets then? Guess what, they ALL know about the pallets and abuse them equally efficient. I suppose it's due to Windows of Opportunity being a meta perk these days.

What perks are they running?
How many Hooks did you get?

I used several perks but refrained from using Eruption since I get very little value out of it due to gens popping before I'm even able to down someone. Here's a list of the perks I used on my killers in various combinations:
- Call of Brine (never took it off)
- Corrupt Intervention (only on Plague)
- Deadlock
- Nowhere To Hide
- Brutal Strength
- Enduring
- Bamboozle
- STBFL
- Rancor
- Sloppy Butcher
- Shattered Hope
- Terminus
- No One Escapes Death
Regarding the perks used by the survivors, it was all meta as I said before. A ton of Dead Hard users coupled with Adrenaline, also a couple of Sprint Burst users who 99%'d their perk just to abuse it midway through the chase to waste even more of my time. My hookcount remained low as you can imagine, infact most of my hooks were from camping during endgame and trading with survivors.

You didn't even once get 3 kills and 4 out of 18 games you drew, it seems to me that you are the problem here.
Are you sure you know how to play killer?
As I said before, that argument does not fly. Matchmaking/MMR is supposed to adapt to these things, yet it doesn't. The game is fundamentally broken in every way. And I'm pretty sure I know how to play killer after 2600 hours. How about you try to put yourself into my shoes?

In 18 games there was one constant factor - you. If you manage to get less than 1 Kill on average over 18 matches, you are probably not as good as you think you are.
Have some records of your gameplay?
Furthermore, this is not the first thread were you reveal that you struggle with the game...
The matchmaking is supposed to adapt to the level of each player over time and yet that hasn't happened.
I also don't have any recordings since my potato rig wouldn't be able to endure it, infact it would only handicap my performance.

So it happened with your games as well? If you don't mind, what perks were you using. I had a very similar experience of me getting curb stomped by default but figured it might have something to do with me bringing no gen defense and playing nice (no tunneling / camping). I made a post about it too and it seems that this is a trend for quite a few players. I'm honestly curious what killers will get in return because this HUD change clearly happened to have a much bigger impact on the game than (at least some of) the devs expected.
I don't think killer is unplayable, though. Just a whole lot less fun. Hopefully BHVR won't take too long to think of something for killers now that SoloQ got their 'QoL' improvements. Base kit Lethal Pursuer would be nice. Maybe even 50% base regress instead of 25%?

I play both roles and i can tell you I still 3-4k as killer
Im main Spirit only using Corrupt as my slow down, OP just needs more hours to learn how to play.
FYI i occasionally do get my faced kicked in by 3-4 man SWF but that is like very rare maybe like once a day.
most are here just to have fun and Im not here to ruin my and their experience with an unfun 3-4 slow down build, i like chases
I already have over 2600 hours on the game and you're telling me I need even MORE hours? Are you joking?

Show us your build and your gameplay.
I've been cycling through multiple builds for various playstyles but all of them still kept Call of Brine in them. I did try things like Terminus and Bamboozle to deal with Adrenaline and various obscene loops but it hardly made a difference. I tried everything, I went as far to bring Rancor and STBFL along with a mori offering for maximum lethality but it hardly amounted to anything.
I even attempted to stall as Knight by setting up a 3gen but the guards never were able to hit anyone, that's how worthless they are. So all I could do was walk from gen to gen to delay the inevitable.

@Piruluk said:
I think they cannot revert it, for example on EU despite the HUD-changes, the survivor role has queue of 5-10 seconds, and only few hours since switched to killer incentives. Without the HUD-changes noone would play as solo survivor, before it was completely hopeless without SWF, now its a little better, SOLO still very weak, but at least I know how to play based on my team. If they dont want to play, then I play for escape, this makes things lot more clear.
The changes buffed survivors far too much, there's no sane reason why survivors should even be able to see the precise progress of a gen that's being worked on by a teammate. The fact that they even were able to see ANYONE working on gens was already too much of a buff but this change made it even worse. Never before has genrushing been this easy to coordinate, it's completely absurd.
-
I'm not sure how you're having a good time with this killer but he's still superunderwhelming to play as. His guard AI remains questionable and mostly unreliable. Survivors still are holding W to get away from his summon circle, he's pretty much unplayable without the map addon. They need to make it basekit so that he finally can pick something else.

Forest & swamp are the only realms left that haven't been graphically updated yet so they will be changed eventually,
As to what those changes will look like (other than a couple of obligatory breakable walls) is anyone's guess.
Personally I think while graphically better looking almost all changes have been overall less appealing.
Finally purely from personal experience as a killer & a survivor killers tend to do better on forest map than is generally noted on these forums.
I've started stat collections again with the new solo survivor hub changes so i'll be dropping reports on that after every round (game played with every survivor using adept perks) 20 games in though forest kill rate is 75%.
Judging by the way they handle map reworks these last couple of years they will definitely turn swamp and forest into the next Garden of Joy. Their map balancing has objectively gotten a lot worse, it's like they didn't learn anything at all from their past mistakes. Maps are getting more and more survivor sided with every single release.
-
It's crazy how they're literally cheating their own iridescent shard policy which states that og skins need to be sold for shards after a month has passed. However if you treat said skins as seasonal ones that one month instantly turns into TWELVE separate ones. This is so unbelievably dirty, especially since older skins are affected by this FOMO-practice as well.
-
I'm bumping this because the bug is STILL in the game. I'm using the Silent Hill skin as well, the yellow rabbit costume to be precise. I'm on pc/Steam by the way.
I attempted this mission few times so far and despite drawing out matches as long as possible with even going as far to frenzy people who are already injured I still can't complete this mission. It's clearly bugged.
-
Wait, you actually get hooks? SEVEN of them? Meanwhile I get games with only 3 hooks on average, 2 of those during endgame usually.
On a sidenote, I haven't touched this game since two whole weeks. There's hardly any reason to; rehashing old content as login-rewards doesn't do it for me and celebrating the chinese new year event one week in advance doesn't seem that thrilling to me either.
Everytime I look up DbD content creators I'm instantly reminded of why I stopped playing this game outside of tome related events. There's no casual enjoyment to be extracted from playing DbD, at least not for me. Abyssmal map design has to be the main contributor to all my frustration.

No, having a reliable "get out of jail"-card that activates in situations in which you most need it, ie wounded and cornered, is the problem. All other exhaustion perks can be annoying in the right situation, but only DH can be used in any situation, be it in the open, or in a strong loop, greeding a palette to the max. The short time after 6.1 was such a giant bolder taken of my broad killer shoulders, when I had a survivor cornered, outplayed and closed up to them after a tough chase, I could just swing without second guessing, no strings attached, no "fufufu if you outplay them, but they DH, did you really outplay them?". It was such a novel concept and exhilarating ... but sadly it didn't last and now we are basically in the same situation as before.
The perk is nominally more fair then before and its grosses and most agrevating uses have been cut out, but now that survivors learned how to use it, its again the most used survivor perk and you have to take it into account in each and every chase, "baiting it out" instead of swinging. And its so tiering.
Also don't forget subtle cheaters/hackers who use Auto DH scripts to always use it perfectly, they basically gain a guaranteed third health state. It's downright despicable and makes you question every single survivor who runs the perk.
-
The best way to balance/buff Myers would be to replenish the evil within survivors who are advancing the objective aka doing gens or gates. Afk/trolling survivors wouldn't be affected by this so Myers wouldn't really be able to exploit them after they were fully sucked dry already.
-
@Phasmamain said:
I’d gladly lose DH if it means eruption also gets removed
I don't even use Eruption so that's a win-win for me.
-
Eruption is horribly overrated since it requires for the killer to get downs to get the effect to even proc which is incredibly hard on most maps (at least the modern/reworked ones) due to featuring so many goddamn pallets that you'll lose 3 gens before the first survivor actually goes down. At the level I'm playing survivors do not make mistakes anymore, they will flawlessly chain loops and tiles and always get to the next pallet to waste as much of your time as possible. It's absolute hell.
Dead Hard meanwhile is among the main contributors to why it's so damn hard to get downs/hooks as a killer.
-
Getting the first hook is by far the hardest part of the match since there are so many friggin pallets available to survivors. I usually have to munch through half of them before I actually get to down someone, at that point at least 3 gens are already done. And you can't even call this tunneling since I haven't downed ANYONE prior to that. Switching targets doesn't make a difference, they will all abuse and chain these loops/pallets perfectly together. No exception.
-
I guess he ate too many sweets during the last winter event.
-
The game is going to get even more unbearable for killer players. I don't even play this game if there are no events or time-limited tome missions available, DbD as a whole isn't worth playing for casual enjoyment. It's far too stressful for that and I'd much rather keep my sanity intact.
-
I don't believe Ruin can even work with Deadlock, entity blocked gens are usually immune to regression. But I can see your point about PH being an effective tunneler capable of circumventing most survivor perks, that's nothing new however.
-
BHVR in general are pretty bad at making balanced maps, the vast majority of them are survivor sided and can waste enough of the killer's time by predropping every single pallet you come across. They need to drastically reduce the overall number of pallets across all maps, halving their number should be the bare minimum.

Switch is the worst. Screen is too small and controller is not great
lol I remember seeing the trailer for the Switch version of the game. They desperately tried to avoid showing off any violence, it was really pitiful to watch. Nintendo basically reduced the game to a Scooby Doo caricature with the killer chasing the survivors or pulling them out of a locker, that's all their audience got to see of the game.
-
They absolutely need to stop with these visual updates, they keep making things worse for everyone who's either stuck on a console or on a low spec pc. The least they could do is add another setting which reduces the visuals to potato level. After all most of us care for the gameplay and not for the visuals. Heck, I wouldn't mind playing the equivalent of a N64 version of this game.
-
There are some new subtle ways to cheat apparently, earlier this week I had a Nea wiggle free after merely SEVEN seconds of being on my shoulder while no one on her team had any perks related to wiggling progress. Now that is just blatant hacking.

It helps to have survivors that only listen for the bing bong or are only focused on skill checks. A lot about playing killer is capitalising on survivor mistakes.
Survivors with thousands of hours, aka the people I get matched with, do not make mistakes. At least not blatant ones which would enable someone like Wraith to sneak up to them. That alone makes playing someone like Wraith an impossible scenario. It's really awful how extremely outclassed various killers are.
-
She's still an awful killer to play as, the only thing which boosts her killrate is the usage of her two best addons combined with a specific playstyle. Beyond that she's sadly dogwater.

....you're playing sweaty comp players every match?
Right....
I have over 2500 hours on DbD alone, every single match is against professionals with a similiar hour-count. There's no room for relaxed play or mistakes, at least not on the killer-side. It's downright ruthless and very stressful.
-
This game IS survivor sided, there's no denying it. There's a reason why all of the tournaments come with severe handicaps for survivor builds considering how extremely efficient these veteran groups can be. Tunneling is the only choice if you want to stand a chance against these sweat squads. Anyone who tells you otherwise is probably at low MMR or mains Nurse.

I don't enjoy Genlock meta, making solo Q a prolonged chore.
I don't enjoy half of my killer games having DCs/people giving up for little to no reason.
I don't enjoy map offerings, of which I see constantly
And finally, most important of all - I don't enjoy BHVR releasing unfinished half baked content riddled with bugs and season locking cosmetics for no reason.
This is why I feel like the game is in a bad state, right now.
I can't even take solace in the fact that Eyrie of Crows might finally be getting changed because it's 1 horrible map of many. Cowshed probably won't be changed, nor will any of the Badham maps.
Wait, they're actually considering changing the godforsaken Artist map? Is there a source for that?
-
I do give up on chases pre-emptively when I see a survivor run off to a strong loop/safe structure however I can't keep doing this while the gens are popping one after another. I had a match at Garden of Joy/Pain end with literally zero hooks and only 9000 bp because the survivors kept abusing the map. There's no winning if all of the survivors are privy to unfair tactics and map techs.
I was trying a scourge hook heavy build and got zero value out of that. Just because the supposed weak link in that team didn't exist. Matchmaking keeps failing me and the abyssmal map balance is pretty much putting the nail in my coffin.
-
Eurption offers me little value since I can't even get downs quickly enough, I couldn't care less about the perk itself. Either reduce the average chase length or increase gentimes, those are the only things which would make the perk a viable pick to me.
-
Happens to me all the time. It has become the new norm and it makes playing this game as a killer an excruciating experience. Camping is the only choice.
