It's not OP or even strong at all, its exactly like you said and I agree.
The rare time someone decides to troll around and finally bring a flashlight instead of only toolboxes/medkits and the killer has Lightborn it just leads to never wanting to bring one again which is pretty crappy.
The takeaway isn't that Lightborn should be nerfed however, its that survivor items shouldn't be so worthless.
I remember one survey asked which survivor items needed improvements and I chose maps and keys without hesitation. Medkits also need to be reworked so that their rarities actually matter instead of insignificant tiny improvements to heal speed. While I agree with the medkit nerf a while back, they've been meaninglessly homogenized for too long now.
-
I just took the survey and it didn't ask me anything about the survivor or killer roles at all.

You moving the goalposts on the topic of my comment to frame it how you want isn't good for the discussion.
I have been talking about perk balance and how much power one perk should give. Responding to my comment means you'd be working with the same topic as I am.
No, you were just making up arguments about why killers shouldn't use Lightborn, blabbering about what's "optimal" or "competitive" in some elaborate attempt to convince killers to stop using the perk you don't like. And when called out that these arguments mean nothing because killers use Lightborn for personal convenience and not for any hardcore competitive advantage, you shifted the goalposts yourself to Distortion and aura-reading when it was originally about Lightborn and flashlights (i.e. whataboutism), and making false equivalences and hyperbolic suggestions that mean nothing.
If anything isn't good for discussions, it's derailing them with irrelevant nonsense that has nothing to do with the original point.

So bringing up a perk in a discussion about perk balance is whataboutism?
🤣
How else would you call a perk that is only brought because someone doesn't want to deal with a mechanic? Training wheels? Hand holding? Entitlement?
Yes, talking about one killer perk that negates a niche mechanic and then bringing up a completely unrelated survivor perk that negates a different and more significant mechanic is whataboutism. These things have nothing to do with each other, it's not a real argument so I don't care.

Welcome to the thread! If you read what I've written, then you'd be able to answer this: if lightborn is okay, then why isn't distortion that is permanent okay? What if I find aura reading annoying? Killers can still hook without aura reads. You can argue until you're blue in the face about how aura read is "useless" but it's more for convenience and a little more.
If killers want "annoying" things to stop, then I'll defer to my previous comment about how some killers mains want to load in and auto-win a match. Everything an opposing human player can do to prevent you from winning can be seen as annoying. At a certain point, you have to tolerate mechanics you don't like instead of outright wanting a crutch to fully ignore them.
if lightborn is okay, then why isn't distortion that is permanent okay?
Whataboutism. Don't care.
Also calling LIghtborn a crutch. lol

The killer chose to pick up with a flashlight in play, it's a skill issue if they didn't make sure the coast was clear…
I'm not going to argue semantics over an analogy that you appear to have a bias in downplaying. Many people consider flashlights a main part of the game. Are they all wrong because you said so?
Did you know that killer perks on average are 4 times stronger than survivor perks and have way more sway on the state of the match? I'm sorry you have to dedicate one perk slot, which you can see whether or not you have to based on the pregame lobby if there's a flashlight or not, to lightborn + 3 other slowdown perks vs running all 4 slowdown.
Killers also fail to realize that even one survivor off a generator going for flashlight saves is magnitudes more slowdown than any 4 slowdown build. If I see 2 people going for saves, I know I've won the match because it will take that other survivor who isn't at least 7.5 minutes to do all 5 generators alone. The flashlight survivors only need to make 1 mistake for the game to be over. Lightborn actually hurts the killer here because after seeing it in play, the other survivors won't bother and start gen rushing. Which would you prefer?
Also, if flashlights aren't that big of a deal like you claim, then why all the fuss about lightborn staying as it is?
No one who runs Lightborn cares about playing optimally. They just want the annoying blinds to stop. You and every other angry survivor can argue until you're blue in the face about how Lightborn is a "bad perk" that no one should use but no one who uses it actually cares. It is a convenience perk and little more.

Plus I'll say this in a survivor perspective I hate people who bring flashlights since they'll follow you around till you go down just to blind the killer instead of taking a protection hit or just doing a gen I get you want the flashlight save but just do it when the killer is near you instead of follow them.
I can't count the amount of times I've gone down just to realize a teammate is standing around the corner waiting for a flashlight save they will never get because the killer is smart enough to face away or just straight-up finds them hiding (poorly) and starts snowballing from there.
-
Survivors will always be upset about Lightborn. It's a perk that eliminates something really annoying and it will always be valuable for that alone.

I personally find healing is really undervalued against him as a way to stop him getting quick downs (but its map dependant if it has lots of LoS blockers), I've started bringing bond and empathic connection to heal others and get healed faster and also know when I can take a hit for someone who is injured by him to waste more time.
I also used vigil and sprint burst so I can get rid of his hindered faster and get to cover faster if he catches me working on a gen to force LoS.
Of course, it's easier said than done, it's very easy for the Ghoul to just use their charges to get better positioning and this just relies on a very inexperienced player and also getting a decent map too.I've been running Resurgence for quick heals under hook. And considering how prone Ghoul players are to returning to hook, I've also been trying Blood Rush with Sprint Burst to try to make better distance.
-
It's certain players upset that their perk that is only good for pubstomping will now be less good for pubstomping, because BHVR realized that a perk that lets the actions of a single survivor wreck the whole team is actually stupid perk design and rightly needs to be thrown out of the game.
Every complaint boils down to "SoloQ will be able to play against it now" and certain players can't tolerate that idea.

skill to play.
what skills does survivor have other then looping and sitting on a gen?
Because it's a video game you play against other human beings? You should have to put in effort to win? Is this a serious question or are we at the point where killer mains are offended when DbD demands they need to try to win instead of having it handed to them?

The nerfs barely changed him at all. Maybe after the next round of nerfs he'll finally require skill to play.

I really want a perk that allows killers to start the trial with Undetectable. It would either go away when you start your first chase, be on a timer or until survivor loses a health state, i'd go for the first option since that seems the most balanced. As for a secondary effect i think you could make it so 5 seconds after losing a chase, you become undetectable for 3/4/5 seconds.
I feel like this perk would really fit the FNAF killer 😄I've wanted to see Insidious reworked into this, or have this effect added onto it. First 30 ~ 60 seconds of the match, you're Undetectable.

General Killer Perk: Just Leave
Effect: when lingering in the exit gates area for longer then 40/30/20s The Entity blocks the exit gates for that survivor, they become exposed and their aura shown to the killer for 6/7/8s. The block and exposed status effect persist till the survivor moved away 40m from the exit gates. Survivors leaving before their timer has filled up gain a +5k BP score event "Awesome person!"
A slightly more reasonable perk idea, a perk that applies a 50% Hindered to survivors in the exit gates area. As an additional effect, maybe 10% Hindered after finishing a generator, for maybe 15 or 20 seconds.
-
I'm not bringing anything to give more points to all these Ghoul players. Plus, my cakes and party streamers will still be here when the event is over, but these eyeballs will become useless, so I may as well use them while they're still worth something.
-
I played against Arinad once. I was playing in a soloQ match. He ran a full meta build, camped every hook and stomped us all. I'm not sure if we got more than one generator completed before the 3K.
I bet he wasn't complaining about the game's balance then.

^ this. It just makes sense to remove Haste-/Hindered-Stacking. Yes, players say that this limits build variety, but IMO something like stacking several Haste-Perks to be faster than the Killer should not exist. 9 out of 10 games it does not work anyway and in that 10th game a Killer has a miserable experience (and before 9 Survivor Teams had a miserable experience because of two people trying a gimmicky build).
It also helps with future Perk Design. The Devs should not have to balance with old Perks in mind. They should not have to create a Haste-Perk and then have to make it weak because the Survivor could pair it with Power of Two or something like that.
That being said, they can certainly buff more Perks when they remove the Interaction of Hindered- and Haste-instances.
I do agree a lot of the current Haste perks should be buffed after the no-stack rule is implemented. They put forth a few in the PTB but there's more that could use more boosts. These perks should be useful enough that they can function properly in isolation without needing to be combined to be effective.

Just the beginning of pushing for good game health overall, and just bad for individual creativity and certain niche builds, but it's necessary.
Half the time it's like:
BHVR buffs something → "Ugh, too strong now!"
BHVR nerfs it → "They're killing my build"
BHVR reworks something →"Why fix what isn't broken?"
People constantly ask for changes, and a quality of life update. When introduced into the public testing phase people just complain as if it will kill the game. They just can't win no matter what.
Players demand better game balance then change their mind when it means losing their overtuned toys in the process.

The only change I think No Mither needs is that it starts the trial deactivated, then becomes permanently activated the first time you become injured.

Lately, the lag has been very bad. As someone from the central U.S., sometimes I get matchmaked with people from the UK. I'm thinking their internal logic regarding what region you're assigned to is broken.
I'm also in the American Midwest and I end up in the weirdest matches. Had what seemed to be a Chinese survivor in my match the other day. BHVR doesn't have enough servers for NA, on top of their weird matchmaking algorithms.

My strongest opinion on the map is that it tanks my FPS to 20 or less so playing it is extremely unenjoyable.

THe list goes on and onI'd love Shattered Memories Cybil as well, especially the brunette version with the police jacket and tie.

What annoys me about the voice-acting is consistency. Licensed characters speaking is one thing because they're all from games with voice-acting so people expect them to talk. But then they started doing it with their original survivors as well so now it's inconsistent. And I still want a toggle to make them stop yapping.

Crazy how we’re being downvoted for saying that players should be on equal footing and not disenfranchised based on whether they’re solo or coordinated lol
Heavens forbid the most neglected role in the game get any kind of consideration.
They pretend it's a SWF problem but the reality is some people can't handle having their pubstompers taken away from them. They'll scream about SWFs when Ghoul gets nerfed too despite him destroying soloQ players harder and more frequently.
-
Fully deserved in every way. You try playing against this perk in a build designed for it while in a soloQ team. It's like having your teeth pulled.
They can make it -10% repair and healing speed for each Pentimento, that's fine. I'm happiest with the aura reveal change.

But you see, he's not Nurse, so you can't complain about literally anything ever.

I'm sure they worked very hard including one of the worst killers ever designed along with one of the worst events ever designed.
But that doesn't make anything better.
-
Pull out your gun and shoot him, obviously.
-
Just play a strong tile bro. What, you can't teleport yourself to the strongest tiles on the map the moment you hear the Ghoul's terror radius? Sounds like a skill issue to me bro.
-
So not only is the event a Ghoulathon of an endless tunnel, the event itself is bad with mediocre bloodpoint rewards, an offering that doesn't do anything valuable, and new generators that don't work like generators so anything involving generators is useless.
Somehow it's turned out even worse than I thought. But even without the Ghoul problems, the event would be boring anyway, so I can't blame all my disappointment on Kaneki.

I will say, Wraith has no reason to kill any survivors, Spirit has no reason to kill any survivors, Artist has no reason to kill any survivors, but they do anyways. Hell, in their lore 2 of those killers never killed anyone prior to the realm. It wouldn't be anything new for the devs to pull something like that since they seem to love doing that with their original killers and then just be like "yeah now they're either brainwashed or just super bad now that they're in the realm trying to kill everyone."
Those are all original characters that BHVR can make however they want. We're talking pre-existing characters that have fans who have expectations of who they are and how they should act.
-
How does this negatively affect you? You still won.

@Nun_So_Vile said:
Just to offer an alternate perspective without getting too deep in the weeds of horror, In my opinion, it revolves around the "horror hall of fame" identity BHVR always throw out in streams and wherever. People have vastly different opinions in the community of what horror is with some people having a very specific, rigid, solid definition in their mind of what horror is, the look of it, what emotions or feelings the characters and atmosphere evoke, respecting the tropes and techniques that go into making horror, and that it is classified in the horror genre regardless if the quality is good or bad. Then there's others who are much more liberal with their definition of horror, who are more open and receptive to licenses that push the boundary and even might be directly non-horror even. Heck, there are some that just want a cool character and don't care if it is horror or not.
Anime is just one of those mediums that violates those expectations of the "horror hall of fame" crowd and is a sort of sore point/line in the sand when it comes to maintaining an definite identity and image of "horror hall of fame". But, It's like after AoT was added and R6 the precedent was set for just how non-horror related something can be and still be justified to be included in the game by the community (I.e. "it's just skins"). Ever since then BHVR has pushed those boundaries, as seen with the release with Lara and DnD, which have blurred the lines even more. I think that sits in the back of some player's minds as a reminder that you really never know what they will bring or just how far out of non-horror something might be.
Maybe it's not Naruto, but is it really so unreasonable we could see JoJo, or Death Note, Demon Slayer, Hellsing, Full Metal, Evangelion? Considering some, if not all those titles have been in a BHVR official survey, I'm sure there's lots people who would love to see these titles added, and BHVR has recognized that. And if one gets in, well what's one more, and one more after that sort of thing. These all share dark themes, blood, death, horror elements, action, but does that inherently make them horror? and what if the MC is just a dude/dudette with a unique super power/quirk in a world with other people with powers/quirks? Is that horror when you have an ability/super power that helps fight back against enemies in that world, and even make lesser encounters trivial? I just think it mainly comes down to differences in expectations.
I would legitimately enjoy a Death Note chapter. You could make an interesting mechanic out of Light Yagami running around with Ryuk, gathering pieces of the survivors' names to write them in the Death Note and kill them. It would probably have to be gated by hookstates and take significant time investment so he doesn't just delete everyone effortlessly, but I think it'd be really cool if his endgame was writing a name in the Note and 40 seconds later the survivor dies from a heart attack unless they can escape the trial first. There's potential in there.
After all, Light Yagami is just a crazy serial killer, little different from any other killer in DbD.

@LockerLurk said:
Then why don't you just play Killer? There's a whole half of the game that isn't Survivor.
I think Blood Moon coming this soon after the Ghoul's release, a Killer that currently is VERY strong (too strong IMHO, he should be toned way down as should all S tiers because S tiers IMHO are not healthy for this game), is a big mistake. They need to patch Kaneki before Blood Moon but it doesn't look like that will happen, and it would be unfair to disqualify the Ghoul from being allowed to play the event…I'm still gonna have to do the survivor tome challenges. And playing killer is going to have long queue times, on top of playing against miserable survivors, because they've been facing Ghoul all day every day, who will also be taking the game extremely seriously because the Ghoul matches have pushed them to the extreme.
Things are going to be very intense, and I don't think it's going to be a pleasant experience.

I dont really think that you can say about anything that it would not belong in DBD. I think DBD as a Horror-games died with Nicolas Cage getting added (at the latest). With this, basically everything can be in DBD.
And I think Anime in DBD is completely fine. However, I really dont like how it is implemented. I did not watch Tokyo Ghoul, but from what is added to DBD, I would probably not want to watch the Anime. So much screaming and IMO The Ghoul is pretty cringe as a Killer. As I said, constant screaming, very edgy and an absolute cringe Mori (in general I dont like over the top Moris like Ghouls or True Forms). So at least the implementation made me not want to watch the Anime ever.
And in general, I like Anime, but not if it is added in such a cringe way like BHVR has been doing it. (Could also be the case that the implementation is very true to the Anime, but I would not know, since I never watched Tokyo Ghoul)
From what I've heard from Tokyo Ghoul fans, the anime isn't a very good adaptation anyway. Apparently it does that odd thing where it spins off into its own story that's completely different from the source material of the manga. I saw many fans insisting the manga is a serious and mature psychological horror and the anime turned it into an edgy shonen with a silly plot. I haven't checked out either to verify for myself but I'm inclined to believe the passionate fans.
Don't gotta hear Kaneki screaming in a book, at least.

Ghouls returning to hook is a Ghoul problem, not an anti-facecamp problem. It is a very big problem, yes, but that's like blaming tunneling on Sloppy Butcher.
