only Haddonfield is significantly nerfed from it's previous version, other maps are barely touched at all lol. I love exaggeration

Coldwind, yamaoka, borgos, haddonfield, red forest, some macmillan maps…

Yeah this is very true, I recall a game I had as Xeno quite a while back and beginning of the game I was getting destroyed like the team was very good at looping and I had keep abandoning chase to avoid wasting too much time but then I found the 4th survivor who was considerably worse and tunneled them out quite easily and the other three players couldn't handle the 3v1 afterwards and I won a game I probably shouldn't have. Survivor is quite unforgiving in that way where if you have even one mad teammate and the killer picks up on it that's probably enough to end the game there.

Most maps also got completely gutted. Spawning dead zones everywhere to "help" M1 killers but anyone else will just down you in 15 seconds.

  • Nurse and Twins are always a 4k.

  • The matchmaking basically doesn't exist so the survivor team will get screwed over by one survivor who is not good. Usually this was not a problem back then because the maps had way more resources and "wasting time" aka not doing gens was less punishing. Anyway, only a 4 man swf that wants to win should challenge you. Everything else is fodder

  • @UknownShredder said:

Simple solution. Force game to require 9 hook stages for the killer to win the game. And in return we want SWF banned from SoloQ, only being able to invite 1 friend, If you want to play with your friend then add another friend killer you can bully in your custom games.

Get better at the game instead of blaming your losses on swf

  • The more I escape, the more my teammates get worse.

  • I played countless matches with anon mode both as survivor and killer and I don't remember anyone getting mad just because I was anon. If you play in a toxic way while anon THAT triggers people

  • Who cares. You want the game mode that takes 20 minutes to find a lobby balanced when not even the main game is?

  • Probably not an exaggeration on some days. My games have been going well since the patch but during chaos shuffle it was truly helpess.

  • I have yet to see this rampant rat playstyle that's suddenly a problem. Useless teammates will be useless, with or without those perks. But yeah I'm sure all the complaints are for a better solo queue. Surely…

  • Streamsniping is useful if you want to know who the killer is, potential swf, killer/survivor perks, spawn points, where the survivors are, so important information that you don't get early. But of course you shouldn't look at the stream 24/7 or it'll just hinder you.

  • Ehh true. You are basically always awake.

  • They could nerf wake up and sole survivor as much as they want. "Rats" will still hide and wait for hatch/gate. If they die, oh well next game.

  • Do we get 2v8 on the 10th of february?

  • This is typical 3 men swf behavior. They will get mad at the solo regardless, especially if he escapes and they do not.

  • @UknownShredder said:

The second answer guy has lost his mind. SWF is incredibly OP and if evenly matched killer and survivals the killer has 0 chance. If you for example put the NIP guild from Counterstrike to play this game for 2000 hours in SWF, Do you think you would get a win? You wont even find anyone because everyone is gone before you even get there because killer is going to X lets gather here situation. SWF is better than all perks combined in the game.

DBD is not CS. DBD wasn't made for e-sports. Public games are not comp

  • Killrate is definitely closer to 70/30 without swf. Any decent killer at minumum just wipes the floor with solo queue.

  • 3rd party apps lol. You do realize you'd have to ban Steam as well for example?

I've seen people call things by names they don't understand. It's always this that or the other. If I'm a piss poor player who could't win a game to save my life then I'll just cry about it on a forum because that is what I am used to, it's the easiest thing to do.

None of these things happen to players who can actually play the game. Not my responsibility btw.

I mean yeah it's BHVR's responsibility. But you like the attention with these posts don't you?

  • @Mr_K said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3875782#Comment_3875782

I'm not saying that because I don't believe it's made up. You believed that you or someone on your team was tunneled. I just want to know what you personally consider tunneling so I can compare it to what I believe to be tunneling.

The dbd community does not have a single definition of tunneling so to understand each other's point we must have some reference to go by.

To answer your question, not at all. If the unhooked survivor tries to bodyblock he's provoking the killer to go after them again. The same thing if the unhooker hides by not taking chase. What I'm talking about is the killer going after that unhooked survivor even if other survivors try to bodyblock/the unhooked survivor starts prerunning away and not healing under the hook. It is a problem in chaos shuffle because the survivor has no anti tunneling perks

  • @Mr_K said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3875767#Comment_3875767

So by that logic the killer must ignore the last survivor that got unhooked. Even if that survivor actively impeeds the killer from hunting other survivors.

You know you could just say I'm making that list up instead of this

  • @Interrupt_Vector said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3875767#Comment_3875767

Well, no killer will care about the excuses you come up with. Back to the hook with you :)

Ah yes finding 1000 reasons to say the killer is not tunneling, then play "it's not my responsibility" card.

  • @Mr_K said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3875337#Comment_3875337

That can still mean many things. What if the killer goes off and tries to find other survivors and the one that got unhooked last happens to cross their path. Is it then tunneling to go after that survivor?

I really don't care about what excuses you come up with. Focusing on a survivor until they're dead is tunneling by definition

  • @Rudjohns said:

So DBD needs to be killer sided by default because it can't lose killer players

But what about losing survivor players?

The solution is adding survivor bots… oh wait

  • @UndeddJester said:

The real reason people give up on hook is they aren't enjoying the game, for whatever reason, and would rather prioritise and value their own enjoyment and time, and make the conscious decision to put themselves ahead of anyone else who is affected by that decision.

Sometimes people quit because opposing players are doing something completely obnoxious; other times (and often) it's because of shame at a bad play on their part or because of prejudice against a particular killer/loadout.

Its a slippery slope, cause obviously "fun" is entirely subjective, so taking the stance a player should be able to quit just cause they don't find something "fun" opens a can of worms where basically someone should be able to quit for literally any reason. "Survivor is wearing orange, and I don't like looking at orange". As asinine as this is, it satisfies the condition of "I'm not having fun", so it's a problematic point of view.

Regardless, the quit epidemic really kicked off when they removed depipping from the grading system and personally I believe depipping should be brought back for agregious cases of DCing and SoH.

    • DC you lose a pip, derank if at 0 pips.
    • If you reach DC tier 3, derank a tier regardless pips.
    • Die within 3 minutes of the start of the match, lose a pip, derank if at 0 pips.
    • Die within 3 minutes of the start of the match 3 times in a given time frame, lose a pip regardless of pips.

Innocents maybe caught from time to time, but anyone genuinely playing the game will very rarely fall afoul of these, and there is some argument to say, it's kind of fair enough to lose a rank in these scenarios anyway.

Brother depipping does nothing. People used to mass dc on sight of old legion, skull merchant and other stuff which was basically every game. That being said 99% of people that give up in my survivor/killer games is because the match is already lost so there's no reason to drag it further which I agree with.

  • Actually it's TOP 1% High MMR. High MMR is for casuals

  • They probably didn't adjust the knives animation to the buffed speed. Another case is Nemesis tentacle.

    How do you define tunneling?

    • Directly off the hook
    • After unhook, found working on a gen/ healing with another survivor(s) and the killer goes after you.
    • Hooked twice in a row regardless of time.

Going after the unhooked survivor no matter what

Wow… thats a lot of games in a row for me lol. I can do maybe 3-4 solo'Q before Im just done lol. Quite envious tbh, but not of your matches. Chin up, champ!

I have found the more party members I have and on coms with, the more fun the game gets. I literally lose aspects of the game that comes with Solo'Q such as no hookicides, someone hiding in a corner all game (Not really an issue, but still a possibility!), overall new player, and more. They just get deleted as things that throw matches from the get go.

I got to thinking, and I think by design, good SWF's would naturally move up the MMR ladder. Killers will mow through new players, and generally start getting SWF's sprinkled in. Eventually, top killers get SWF's often since that's the challenge they need.

Like this… things make sense. Praise the Entity! Hmm..

Tbf a few bad solo queue games are enough to tilt me too even by playing once a week at best. I kinda kept going just to see how much worse it can get and I was definitely not disappointed. I had swfs to play with years ago but everyone quit (I did too for a few years). Killer gets boring.

  • From this post you can definitely tell why DBD has turned into a tunneling/slugging simulator. My god

Alright first of all thank you for the effort, I do appreciate it.

I will now simply narrate what I think about your points and maybe then you can see how I see it.

The first two images tell me you are playing on a Badham Preschool map. Amazing map for survivors, arguably one of my favorite Realms for both roles. Just a personal. There are many, many tiles and resources for survivors to waste tons of time against a Pinhead with little to no effort if you don't make any major mistakes like running into walls, running into a deadzone, giving away free hits. My personal recommendation is to hold W and book it whenever he wants to get tricky with his chain. It is really difficult to aim it and this map in particular is very difficult for him if he is not a decent Pinhead player.

Only looking at the first two images right now, there is obviously some time in between those two points, depending on conditions maybe 2 - 5 minutes, impossible to tell so this is just a guess. In that time a generator got finished while he was probably searching for the third survivor to down. Seeing that the Kate is reviving you and the Alan got injured in the meantime I assume that you got downed in Main, he left you for reasons I can only speculate about, downed Player 3 and went on to find the next player. At that point you were crawling out of Main and got saved by Kate while Alan finished a generator, which probably got the Killer a hit.

The Kate already has a hook state and seeing that the map is generally considered Survivor favored, since it is rich in resources, coupled with the fact that Pinhead is basically an M1 killer with a really difficult to control Power for many players (especially controller users) I can see that he probably tried to do the best he can to get Kate out, he just couldn't find her while accepting any and all free hits that were presented to him. In your second screenshots I see Pallets that aren't terribly weak if used well so in order for him to build effective pressure is to get one guy out.

Slugging you isn't really doing him any favors as there is very little difference to you spending your time on the ground or on the hook. In fact you still got 2 entire hook states you can work in your favor. So after getting a full heal from Kate, Kate should go work on a gen while you work on resetting Player 3. The gameplay is the same thing. Except when you are down you can actually still move around, recover and get picked up really fast. It takes longer to bleed you out then to just hardcore tunnel you out, even with crutch perks.

with 3 gens remaining after which we were basically just trading who was on the ground while trying to crank the generators

Yeah this is how it goes, but you actually managed to trade you way to 0 gens and that isn't even bad at all. You almost escaped.

So I go down and instead of just hooking me and ending it, Pinhead decides to stand over me swinging and launching his chains at me right up until I'm 1 second away from bleeding me out. At which point he picks me up, hooks me, and proceeds to hit me on hook.

Alright yeah that can reasonably be perceived as BM. If it was somehow provoked, I don't know since we only have hand picked screenshots. Maybe the match was stressing him out, maybe he perceived something you or someone else did as BM, maybe he's a genuinely bad person, maybe he is a hardcore Hellraiser fan and wants to role play lore accurate Pinhead.

these people feel the need to drag it out as long as possible and rub it in the whole while

Yeah they really do, absolutely. I'm the last guy to deny that there are people out there that actively use this game as a bully simulator. And trust me they get bullied themselves too, just in lobbies that you're not in so you don't see it happen. Believe me I've seen all of these things happen. Damn I did them myself just for the fun of it.

Hostage Doctor is by far my favorite method to show newer players just how bad things can get. When I play a hostage doctor you'll beg to get slugged so you can at least bleed out. The bleedout timer is much, much shorter than the maximum match duration. I tried it.

I won't hit you, you will not get insured for the entire match. But every second you do not spend in Madness 3 you'll get maximum difficulty skillchecks that just keep getting worse and worse. Go ahead, do your gens and you are free to leave.

Hilariously free win for anyone who just hits the skillchecks. This has been way more effective in the past and this too got addressed by BHVR in a sensible manner by adding a kick limit to Generators.

Alright so what I am going to need is somehow proof that every game of yours is like this, filled with people who just slug and BM.

How common is this really because this happens very rarely to me and if it does I just laugh about it. It's just a game.

"Maybe the match was stressing him out"

    "I play hostage Doctor"

    "It's just a game"

    Wall of text

I don't quite think even that explains the softcap thing, if everyone really IS at the softcap that would mean the MMR is completely broken. I really don't believe most people are at softcap at all.

Honestly though, doesn't all this basically mean that the term "smurfing" means nothing? If MMR is intended to shift around, then it going down on purpose whether you force it that way or it happens naturally really doesn't mean much because it's just gonna go right back up based on that phi value, if we assume phi is a rate of decay for MMR (how fast you gain/lose it). This is also why winstreaks ultimately mean nothing - you don't measure skill based on wins and neither does the game. That is, skill literally does not matter in terms of MMR, only wins do. Which is actually, kinda expected based on what we know about MMR in other games and how it works, especially ones using this system. Pretty sure Overwatch also uses this system for example.

In fact if we assume phi is decay rate, mu is mean MMR, and sigma is the standard deviation of MMR, it explains everything about how MMR works. You have a baseline average of all your games (mu), then you have a range that all your games can match within (standard deviation) from that average. THEN you have a rate of decay that determines how much you gain or lose each match. That's kinda how it works in other games with an MMR system, too

The average explains why some people get tougher opponents than others even below softcap - it's an MMR mismatch. That is there functionally is no MMR. Most people do not have an average MMR at softcap, because if they did that would mean every other data point is so skewed it doesn't really matter and therefore they wouldn't really have any accurate MMR at all. So basically, if you have really inconsistent MMR you may be at softcap already where you can match with anyone and everyone; the formula breaks a little bit.

The standard deviation explains why especially at the softcap, you get such an array of players - because once you hit the softcap anyone can match and the game does not care if you're actually skilled, just that you win by the definition it uses (3-4k or an escape through the gate). If you have a really wide one, that means you again have very bad matchmaking accuracy or no real MMR. If you have a really narrow one, you have really accurate MMR which means you probably also have very frustrating matches - the game is not easy when your opponent is at your skill level or a little above/below it. Most people saying they get comp SWFs and the sweatiest Killers probably aren't softcap, they actually just have a very narrow MMR standard deviation and just don't see much variance per round.

The decay rate explains why, even when people really suck as a Killer and lose a lot, or when they winstreak and still get weak opponents, they STILL get opponents outside of their MMR - because they can gain or lose rapidly and it doesn't really matter. For one person, a single loss or two (versus their average) might be all it takes to get them weak babies, while for others even one win on a Killer they do not play much might give them really strong Survivors next round just because the game thinks they should be more skilled than they really are (because according to other data, they are). This would also explain why you get really bad Survivors matched with you as randoms - because they lost enough and you lost too, so the game thinks you need to be with THESE guys despite you probably not losing because you suck.

Even worse this means that we can now figure out an exact formula based on this for HOW, on an individual level, to tailor your game to never ever get anyone you can't handle… for the most part. You can now use these data to force your MMR to "even out" for the most part by manipulating how much you win or lose. That's exactly what you are doing when you 8hook, or when you winstreak, actually. It's not exactly a complicated statistical formula… at all, and anyone can massage these data for them to get what they want and now, they can calculate exactly how many rounds they'd need to get a higher/lower MMR to do that. Basically, knowing this makes smurfing easier now.

I'm not sure therefore that knowing all this is gonna be healthy for the game in the longrun.

MMR is probably the old ranking system with a soft cap to leave out beginners which doesn't even work sometimes so it's exactly the same. I had 20 hours survivors one match, then swf with thousands of hours the next. Matchups were and are still random most of the time. I remember red ranks being paired with rank 20s if it couldn't find a similar opponent. But the criteria now is escapes/kills.

Showing our MMR when we get the monthly grade payout would be enough imo. At least we could gauge from month to month how we're doing, IF that's something a player cares about. It'd be a step anyway.

It would be nice to see more of your stats in game every month.

  • BHVR should just do it already. Make personal MMR available like grades and release an official bracket system. At least all the assumptions about high mmr and whatnot would cease.

  • BHVR should just show the magic MMR number

    Absolutely it is poor gameplay.

As a survivor you can play without perks and experience 0 downsides if you know how the movement system works. Funnily enough even veteran players have not realized the momentum based movement and regularly ######### the bed with their big goofy turnarounds that practically guarantee a hit.

The amount of whining is absolutely off the charts and to me it's honestly quite curious how a community can collectively drive itself against the wall like this.

Saying stuff like this while on an alt. How ironic

Sadly because a vocal group on these foums insist that it's just the killer "doing their job" and not a method of griefing their opponents. They resent the idea that they won't be able to annoy the other side.

The same killers that probably complain about toxic SWFs bullying them too.
