"leave a loop or get hit" really sounds like no gameplay to me since looping is a core interaction between players. what do you have left to do as survivor, hide? i guess, sure.
People complain about survivors hiding too. When I see the argument that survivors basically exist to die I wonder if the people making it understand that there are gamers playing as survivors. Few people want to play a murder simulator. Even fewer want to play a game where their entire presence is to entertain some random other person with little reward for themself.
-
Honestly? He’s right. When he said if two gens aren’t finished by the time the killer gets their first down the game is pretty much over for survivors he was saying something. At the start of the game both sides are basically in a mad dash for the end. Good survivor teams will send a sentry (hopefully a good looper) to find and distract the killer with the understanding that survivor may not make it to endgame, but three others might. And it’s a byproduct of anti-play killers who are a byproduct of poorly designed maps.

"You just obviously dont play against good Survivors since you don't know what you're doing."
Debating that person seems like a waste of time.

If you want to win, then best advice is to get a swf. Solo queue isn't going to get any better, especially as a dev all but said in the recent AMA that they're not really sure what they can do for solo players anymore.
This is all a symptom of a larger problem with the game. Most people will say that removing the ability to 4% or harsher DC penalties might help, but honestly all that will do is drive people away from DBD. Forcing people to remain in game won't force them to participate. I think alot of solo players are feeling apathetic towards the game and simply don't care anymore. You know when the game is over pretty quickly. I find just playing for dailies or challenges or bp helps.
@Vlarian I second this. If you’d like to improve your chances of escape as survivor either join a SWF or play with endgame escape in mind. That means your build should be…
wake up, sole survivor, distortion, alert (or some other killer tracker) or some variant thereof.
You’ll want to do just enough so the other survivors believe you’re contributing but not so much that you attract the killer’s attention. When you’re down to three survivors left, if there are 3 or more gens remaining you should start hiding. Depending on the map I’d say avoid searching for hatch and just wait for the gates.

I feel ya. Had a TTV off himself on hook at 5 gens last night because 'apparently' the Doctor ignored everyone else to target him.
Which in turn was false. He used his Static Blast already and couldn't find me so he just followed the guys scratch marks. OK bro gg go next.
It’s not uncommon for killers to target TTV players, and if the guy said the Doctor was essentially harassing him (which again is common for TTV survivors) then maybe that one time you saw when the Doctor couldn’t find you but found him wasn’t the only time it happened. Sometimes people actually are tunneled/harassed by killers.

Does is? we have pulled this off with only 1 survivor + 1 on the hook, the one not on the hook was on death hook. So at that point, following your logic, the we should just have die because the killer have the upper hand, do i have that part right?"The we should have just die"
No, I never said that. You're misrepresenting. There is a massive difference between "has earned an advantage because of what has happened in the game" and "just win".
If the killer has one on hook and only survivor left to rescue, the killer has a significant advantage. Nearly unstoppable to get at least one more kill if they camp the hook. Slightly less of an advantage if you are on comms. Much less of a an advantage if the killer plays nice and refuses to camp.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with them having an advantage, even a monumental advantage, because of what happened in the game up to that point.
The unspoken point to their argument (briefly hinted at when they said the game should favor killer as it goes on) is that killers deserve to a kill at any stage of the game but especially late-endgame, while survivors should certainly fail at endgame. It’s why they’re avoiding your, my, and Firellius’ point that if the survivors play really well up to endgame they should rightfully make it out alive; they outplayed their opponent. Because for OP, that’s not important; it shouldn’t turn the game. For OP survivor death is an inevitability that should not be mitigated by playing well.
-
@Green_Sliche Every killer prioritizes tunneling an survivor out ASAP and Sadako at every iteration was doing that.
@Chocolate_Cosmos Sadako plays better IMO but it depends on which version of her you liked more. Some preferred the original, some liked the changed version. This one feels like a good middle ground.

That’s not true. Lol. Killer ping actually determines if a hit lands at any vault junction. The devs has said this a few times. It’s a well-known fact.

It works every time for me tho... but its still a free escape if my team know what they are doing, and the do (in most cases).
They split, so if the killer push one out, the other one unhooks me and we go for the safe exit. So there is really no choice for the killer than to camp the hook im on, and that goes as i previously explained. Im sure you already know this too.
It’s not a free escape. They had to survive the entire match up to endgame and outsmart/evade the killer to escape the trial. If they’re coaxing the killer away from the hooked survivor that’s sort of a mistake on the killer’s part. It’s gonna depend on the killer of course but could just use Blood Warden to stall or simply not leave the hook to push other survivors out. With the gates open their time is ticking down anyway.

You'd think that, but 2 people slamming out gens and you never getting hooks is certainly not a win. Not sure who you are watching, but I see upper echelon players hit by background player all the time and it's almost always a visible frustrated look because they know it was entirely unavoidable.

Game sense can't predict someone is half a map away and will suddenly zip into your face the moment you pick up. As for walls, I already said that walls are the only counter, but survivors going down at a wall or not is entirely in their control. Higher mmr, all survivors have to do is if they feel they sre going down, go down at a pallet or run out in the open and get downed. 100% guaranteed to be saved if their teammates had BGP.
If you two are never seeing this situation, then yall are at an MMR level that's not relevant to what I'm talking about. Granted, the game is balanced around average players, so there is that, and average survivors don't utilize BGP or think to go down out in the open or at a pallet. If yall are talking about average players, then yes, you two absolutely have a point. I'm not talking about average players, however.
I seriously doubt you’re a high MMR player. You just don’t give off that vibe. 🤷🏽♀️

So what happens if survivors accidentally make a 3 gen, and then decide their strategy is to purposely repair the 3 gen in short bursts of time, and excessively hide, until the generators become damage immune?
It’s still a 3-gen and that is going to require some degree of commitment & risk to break through. The success of breaking the 3-gen at this point depends on how many survivors are left, who the killer is, their level of skill, and a few other factors.

I personally think Nurse, Dredge, and Skull Merchant are fun to face. Wraith and SM are killers people sweat with. Nurse you don’t need to sweat with, she’s gamebreaking and can pretty easily 4K even played casually. Dredge you can’t really sweat with, Spirit you can sweat with.

The thing they've deserved for a while actual communication via pings, preset messages, and basekit aura reading perks. Considering the roadmap survivors will be getting needed buffs like the mangled rework, anti 3 gen system, and more. Hard to tell if these changes will actually solve issues with the game, but killers not getting powerspiked too much from gen perks would be a good change.
So BHVR pretty much said they are not creating any kind of ping system nor are they giving survivors basekit aura reading perks. They’re content with the HUD when it comes to providing survivors with a basekit communication feature and encourage survivors to use perks that help bridge the gap (like Kindred). Personally I think that is very fair.
The 3-gen and haemmorhage change responses aren’t buffs for survivors; they’re changes that break even. And the only reason they’re happening is because killer mains abused the features (mangled/hemmorhage, games that were timing out due to impossible 3-gen scenarios). They break even because before these strategies were inadvertently buffed by nerfing survivors (via healing and shrinking maps), they weren’t really issues. They became issues because survivors were nerfed.
-
I like Nostromo when I play killer. It reminds me of Rancid Abbatoir, which is like—as killer—for similar reasons.

Yea I'm good with gen kicking coming back probably lowest of lows for the game. I just wish perks were less impactful to match outcome . Gen perks could receive nerfs/reworks and basekit killer gets some of that power with shorter corrupt & a mini pop or something similar.
So what do survivors get in exchange for this? They got nothing during the extremely oppressive gen kick meta which was partially why it was nerfed to begin with.

Frankly, there aren’t enough asym games to compare. The same principles apply regardless if a game is asym or not. Things that affect high level play don’t matter that much for low levels, since most players lack basic game knowledge.
Decisive strike is a perfect example: it doesn’t matter how long the stun is because the average person isn’t good enough to really exploit it and run the killer. The same goes for killer: the average killer lost games even with the strong gen regression durimg 6.1. because they lack macro and tile knowledge of the game. Balancing for a casual base doesn’t solve problems for most people, and only makes high level play miserable.
You don’t need a lot to make the comparison—just one. I can think of four off the top of my head.

I mean the basekit BT is incredibly strong because it means survivors can't just be immediatly downed after their feet touch the floor after an unhook. Before they added it BT was basically a required perk, I even saw people say if you weren't running BT you were outright throwing the game and should NEVER unhook anyone ever. Now people don't have one of their slots always filled with BT and can actually pick something else. It also now adds 10% Haste for the duration as well which helps ensure you can reach a vault/loop even if the killer tries waiting it out.
Yes the killer can just hit you right after the unhook but then you get a speed boost and can try getting somewhere to loop. Before you may well have just immediatly got downed and put back on the hook with nothing you could do. How anyone can say basekit BT is useless and does nothing, just seems incredibly disengenous. That or some people just wont be happy unless they make an unhooked survivor outright invincible.
Tunnelling is a big issue, yes, and I do think they need to do more to help weaken it while buffing spreading out hooks. However, basekit BT was a BIG buff to survivors.
Basekit BT wasn’t even a buff. It just helped survivors break even for an awful game design oversight.

If you genuinely think standing 16 metres away from the hook is 'standing at the hook' then I don't really know what to tell you. I guess people have different definitions of what facecamping is but it seems clear that BHVR used the commonly held belief that's it's standing right in front of the hook.
Standing 16 metres away from the hook isn't standing 'at the hook' and no amount of being pedantic makes it so.
It’s standing up to 15.9999999+ meters from the hook according to BHVR but as Dogma said it’s just splitting hairs. For the sake of my opinion of you (which is positive right now) I’m going to disengage. We disagree, it’s fine.

It's standing at the hook. I don't know why you're being like this. As I already said if you don't like proxy camping or the killer just standing outside the AFC range then make a thread asking for BHVR to do more to combat that.
As it stands the AFC mechanic is a complete success, if the killer hooks someone and just facecamps, the survivor can free themselves before going to second hook.
If the killer doesn't do that, then the AFC doesn't kick in, which is intended. Still confused why people don't understand.
I asked for a specific numeric measure because “standing at the hook” means different things to different people as evidenced by our disagreement. You avoided providing ann answer because you know the distinction is ridiculous and irrelevant. By BHVR’s metric standing at the hook could be a distance of 1 or 15.99999999+ meters. The difference between the latter and an ‘appropriate’ level of distance (16 meters) is so minuscule it’s essentially irrelevant. But you won’t say that because it invalidates your point.
-
@Krazzik said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3620704#Comment_3620704
No it isn't, it's standing right there at the hook. Standing at a distance is healthier as it gives survivors a better chance at saving the hooked survivor without having to trade, which is much, much harder when the killer is at the hook.
They're two different things and BHVR was only addressing one of them. If you think BHVR should do something to stop more forms of camping then feel free to ask BHVR to do that.
So what is “right at hook”? Is 4 meters? 1? 3.7? 8? …15.999…? 😏
I personally couldn’t care less about camping. It affects the player retention negatively which hurts the game in the long run so it’s a problem that solves itself in the end.
-
@Krazzik said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3620313#Comment_3620313
No, face camping if when you're right up in their face, camping them. It's specifically when the killer is right at the hook and it makes unhooking much harder and a trade almost certain.
Even if the killer literally stands just outside the range of the AFC mechanic, it still gives the other survivors a better chance to get the unhook without having to trade, and is thus much healthier for the game.
A killer who is hanging around the area and goes right back to the hook to tunnel is something completely different and is not what the AFC was made to counter.
It’s not though. There’s really no need to pontificate or overcomplicate it. Face camping is just, well, standing still and watching the hooked survivor from a distance at which you can easily hit or down them again.
-
Probably because you need 3 other people to queue as survivor before you can play a trial.

What does it matter if the killer hits me immediately or later as long as I remain protected from that hit? With borrowed time, sure the Killer can count and then hit and still get fooled by borrowed time, but the end result is the same, is it not? The only difference I see here still is that OTR protects you way longer. So even if the Killer knows this, you still ensure some level of enhanced protection over Borrowed time.
I wouldn’t say OTR protects you longer. Either BT or OTR will insulate you as long as the killer allows. If you’re being tunneled and hit right off hook, neither perk is protecting you. And it’s not like you become invisible once you’re in deep wound. So that little ‘protection’ you got from being hit once isn’t going to do much as most killers can see (your blood trails & scratch marks) and hear (your grunts of pain). Like the protective feature of both perks is invalidated after a single hit. And BT makes you faster and can be used during endgame, while neither is true for OTR.

SWFs are more likely to stay in a game after they die... since they're waiting for their team. The test was centered around the chat, not so much the win/loss rate. It was stated that he wouldn't hit an unhooked survivor, even if bodyblocked and would instantly pick up no matter what the situation. TYPICALLY people would hesitate to do that if surrounded by flashlights, lol.
The point this test showed was that no matter how much tunneling/slugging/camping is avoided... ppl will still toss insults and make those accusations.
I understood full well what he tested. My point stands.

Then it's not face-camping.
I mean face camping is just standing still watching a survivor on hook from a distance where if they got off hook you could still hit and/or down them again. 16 meters doesn’t create some magical barrier of protection between a killer and a hooked survivor. Lol

well, because it wasn't anti-camp mechanic

Could be that the person had to go. People don’t always quit or give up for nefarious reasons (I.e. to ruin your personal gaming experience). The best solution would be to design a game that doesn’t fall apart for one side or whatever if one person leaves prior to that side reaching an unspecific threshold.
-
This is dubious. The player had all that ‘data’ and yet no where does he state how many players were belligerent or how many were kind—except when he points out that he reported 10/12 ‘known SWF players’ for violating TOS. There are no numbers for that; only his wins & losses (and he considered a 2K a loss so he probably broke closer to even). So his results appear skewed and like they’re presenting an agenda.

I am really questioning myself sometimes if i am playing same game as others. Because i am winning games as even weak killers like Nemmy and Clown. Sure, time to time i am facing with very challange teams but most of times teams are just not that good. And it ends with so much wins.
Any killer who has good chase + anti-gen perks can win most of matches.

If you're attempting this thru 4 pallet stuns then yeah it's unlikely against any Killers that aren't new to the game.

Using Kindred isn’t a bad thing (I like it too) and honestly? more survivors should run it. That perk and the HUD basically provides the most valuable information a SWF group has. I don’t think kindred should become basekit in any way, shape, or form.

I don't want Decisive Strike buffed unless it has restrictions like disabling end game. Prior it was absolutely stupid where people would try to abuse it to aggressively defend teammates. Unfun perk to deal with when it's strong.
Not against buffing it - Just not to the OG timer unless it disables when all 5 gens are powered. Should be similar to Off The Record and other stuff designed to protect you when the killers objectives include both protecting gens and killing survivors.
When all that's left is survivors you shouldn't get a free unhook out the gates. Guarantee if you return it to 5 seconds with no restrictions you'll see a rise in slugging again.
DS isn’t going to return to what it was at release, and I don’t think anyone should have a ‘free’ anything during endgame. That goes for survivors and killers. FYI the killer’s priority is always survivors—never gens. Survivors aren’t suddenly your mission when the gens have all been finished.

Same for me. I don’t use it and I do fine. I’d even suggest using LP and UW over it. You’re gonna tunnel out the first survivor anyway and even if you don’t, you’ll find one person to hook and then have two survivors occupied. You can return to that hook (proxy camp) and injure the saver, now you’ve got two injured or potentially one down one injured and a third survivor will need to help reset things. So that’s three survivors off gens at probably 3-5 gens remaining.

Pallets can now spawn LESS than 16m of another pallet. Making chaining tiles hella lot easier than it should be,
Certain Set ups CAN be Infinites, I.E Main Buildings connecting to other tiles With Windows from one another, or Vice Versa)
One chase can still be Equal to 3 gens IF the survivors know what they're doing (Yet again i will bring this up to Prove a Point,)
FTP + Buckle up Combo Still Exist
OTR + MFT is Now Better than Before, (Or the classic DH + MFT. Ain't Picky)
Killer is Reliant on Survivor's Mistakes which is starting to show Less and Less with the Classic "Hold W and Prethrow" which can still work to this day,
And before you say "YoU gOt NoEd!1!" Endgame perk, 100% you can counter it by doing "T o t e m s" cause if you got time for 5 gens. you got time for 5 totems, nuff said.
Most of this is all wrong.
1.) Pallet spawns are equally likely to produce dead zones or extremely weak tiles. With maps shrinking (see Borgo) and tiles being reworked (see Coldwind ) is more likely.
2.) There are no infinites left in this game. Not even the best loops are infinites.
3.) Three gens popping during one chase may happen but it’s inconsequential. It takes five gens to escape and even getting three done at the start doesn’t really prevent a killer from winning the match.
4.) This exist but it’s mostly like old BT. Not exactly game breaking.
5.) Not at all.
6.) See point 1 & 2. Additionally, pre throw and run is common because many killers now possess some sort of anti-loop ability.
7.) Not really. A killer can camp-tunnel their way to an easy victory regardless of what survivors do.

I’ve seen plenty of Horror and the protagonists don’t win as much as it would seem. Sometimes they do, but a lot of times they don’t. That’s kind of part of the horror genre, a sad ending where the bad guy wins.
I too have seen a lot of horror and I disagree with you. More often than not a final person remains because 1.) most audience members root for the protagonist at the end of the day; 2.) cinema / story-based media is immersive; 3.) cinema / story-based media with a doomed outcome often performs poorly when compared against the opposite (which is why the final girl trope even exists while there is no everybody dies trope); and 4.) it sets up the potential for a sequel.
Not saying you’re doing this, but I am saying it is disingenuous to pretend that somehow everybody dying is at all anything but anomalous. That person you’re replying to is correct. If DBD should mirror horror in cinema and other content one survivor should almost always—9/10 times—live. That is the formula.
