The other thread from that Scott guy is right. There are too many variables for any sort of skill based system to work. Ranks are also mostly useless, but they're better than nothing.
I had three killer matches this morning. I got a bad map as Wraith against gen jockeys. I got seven hooks, one kill, three escaped. I feel I played as well as I could without resorting to douchebaggery and the game depipped me. Too many pallets. Too much sprint burst. All three remaining survivors had Adrenaline. Then I was doing an Oni ritual and again got a bad map (his map, bad in both design and it's just too god **** dark). Got two hooks before getting stuck in a pallet and had to quit. Wonder what MMR would say about this game?
Last match was against a sweaty four stack but they were too altruistic and could have easily gotten all the gens done but were too focused on healing and saves and bodyblocking. Got a 4K with 30k points. Got a pip, but I played much better in my Wraith game where I lost a pip. The variables are just too large, there's too much RNG.
This just seems like a stupid idea to hide how bad matchmaking is.
-
I for one have the utmost confidence that a developer who years later still has an unoptimized game that runs like poop on consoles, still has broken maps, still has worthless perks on both sides, still has loads of glitches in their game (literally got stuck in a pallet as Oni as I was typing this) and a dev that couldn’t handle a simple ranking system based on multiple failed pipping guidelines, can handle MMR in a game with tons of RNG and variables. Sounds legit.
I totally don’t think this is just yet another band aid being slapped on the game to hide another broken element, this one being their trash matchmaking.
-
A competent developer could do it. BHVR couldn’t handle a simple MM system based on simple rank. How is this supposed to work 😆
-
It doesn’t matter if he’s overpowered or not. If he has legitimate counters or not.
Do the cosmetics buying, rift pass buying survivor mains find him frustrating? Yes? Welcome to Nerfville.

I did read the entire thing. And it's complete opposite from what we were told about a week ago regarding ranks in the endgame screen. Also how would players be aware if they're being matched with an opponent of an equal skill, except your word that the system is working as intended?
Obviously, players don’t know if they’re being matched with equally skilled players or not. It’s hidden which absolves BHVR of any blame for their horrid horrid matchmaking 😆
Gotta wonder when the band aid box will run out.

You can still win at this point. There is no reason why a game should be lost when 2 or even 3 gens are done. This is the problem, people think they lost at this point, meanwhile they still 4K.
When someone thinks it is bad when the first Gens are done fast, despite ending with a 4K, this person is just outright stupid. There is no other word for that. Especially with the adjustment to Gatekeeper it should also not be as punishing as before.
I see it problematic when 4 Gens get done with still 4 people alive. THIS is where a game might become a loss. But not after 2 or even 3 Gens done.
The problem with games like this where the gens are popping like crazy is that how the game goes is entirely reliant on the survivors. The killers skill plays absolutely no part in it. As the Depip Squad showed, survivors who pound out gens are almost impossible to beat. The maps are too big, the loops are too strong. Outside of using only the most powerful killers and most “scummy” tactics, you will lose in very quick fashion, no one will score many points, and the game is boring for everyone.
And when you start using the meta killers and “scummy” tactics like setting up three gen strats and slugging, survivors will complain about that and send hate messages and DC. It’s a lose/lose for killers.
-
They’ve had years to fix gen times or give survivors another objective. I don’t get the optimism people have for this company sometimes.
What, only now that Ruin is poop will they finally understand how ez survivors have it? They’ve said they want to address perks that affect gen times and that hey if you’re a slow M1 killer on a big map just ignore your objective and accept defeat. Doesn’t sound like they really plan on using the Ruin change to address anything.
Heres what is actually happening. They got GamePass money. They got PS+ money. They got Stranger Things fandom money. They see this influx of new players and they want to keep them. They understand they can make more money placating casuals than the hardcore. Casuals will buy auric cells and pay stupid prices for cosmetics. Buy DLCs. A hardcore player owns the DLC already and buys cosmetics with shards. So they’re catering to these potatoes. It’s just typical greed.

Only against potatoes, SWF know how to counter 3 gen strats. Survivors 3 gen themselves, otherwise they make sure to complete 1 or 2 gens in your 3 gen area.
Like most of the advice given by BHVR people here, this seems to be catered to very casual players.
Do any of these people on the forums stream? I'd love to watch them play.
-
I agree with the killer. I wouldn't have face camped you, but I would have made sure you did not make it out of the match. Keys suck.
By the way, are keys glitched now or something? Are there certain David King outfits that hide keys? Yesterday I had the same guy in two straight games bring in a No Mither David King and both times he had a purple key and I didn't notice. He died game one and waited around at hatch for me to close it so he could run by and open it with his key and escape game two. Like, what the ****? I don't remember his outfit though. And another match I know someone last second switched to a character with a key, I saw them carrying the key in game, they had the key when I mori'd him like he deserved for bringing a key in, but on the post game screen, nothing. No key.
-
NOED works better than ever because survivors are all too happy to just blaze through the gens now that Ruin is gone. I suspect soon we'll see NOED revisited because it's "frustrating for survivors".

Hold up there bud, a pot of people are more upset over the fact that we have to give up on a percentage of our "objective" atm, where is this sudden thing coming from now? Not all killers wants a 4k some of us want a chance at protecting all of our objectives in the begining
God forbid a killer doesn't want to have to sweat every second of every match

Survivors aren't the ones with power over where gens are done. That wasn't an opinion piece. Any other questions?
Yes they are? There are perks and items that let them avoid a three gen. Not to mention, on the bigger maps there typically isn't a viable three gen strat for a killer to set up. Furthermore how long do you think killers constantly setting up three gen strats will last before BHVR would tweak them? lol
-
MP4 File
There is a game I just had on Lery's. I don't usually run Discordance but I ran it this time. I went to a gen highlighted by it and ran two people off a gen, injuring one. While chasing the other, we ran by another gen that was about 40% done. I chased this Jane off of it and got in a chase with her. It wasn't a very long chase, she used a couple safe pallets. The massive frame rate drop killers get when Bloodlust kicks in really cucked me once but I got her relatively quick. By the time I had her hooked, three gens popped LOL.
For all the "pressure" I'd put on earlier in the match, all that happened is the injured survivor healed and got back on their gen. The second survivor I chased off the first gen just hopped on the other one I'd chased Jane off of. And this third, a Bill IIRC, just stayed on his gen the whole time. I guess I could have slugged the Jane, but even by the time I'd made it to another gen, the same three would have popped. And then all I'd have is a downed survivor probably being picked up, and one or two survivors plowing through the two gens left to do. I didn't check if there were SWF, but I wouldn't doubt it.
As one of the worst characters in the game balance wise, exactly what am I supposed to do here as Bubba? I can't get around the map quick enough to apply any real pressure. Without open spaces, my power is worthless which makes me a basic M1 killer. The Jane did a good job of using all the vaults she found and pallets so there was no chance to chainsaw. The other survivors did not totem hunt, they did nothing but gen jockey. This is the type of match where my skill is absolutely irrelevant, I am at the mercy of the survivors. They have to play bad for me to have a chance. They have to be walking around looking for totems to cleanse, looking for chests to search, crouching in a corner trying to make a flash light or pallet save, etc. They have to not be playing optimally for me to stand a chance in this match. If they stick to knocking out all the gens, which they did, there is simply no time for me to get the hooks needed to "win". I got two real chases in this match and the gens were popped. Two. And this isn't even the worst of the maps, there are maps with way worse in terms of safe pallets, t-walls, jungle gyms, etc.
But hey, letting the first two gens go will fix this issue, it's not the maps themselves that suck. All that letting two gens go will do for you on these maps is leave you with only three gens needed for survivors to escape, which gives you even less time to work through all of the pallets and exhaustion perks you have to work through to get a hook. The only solution is to play like a jerk, tunnel and slug and three gen when applicable. Can't wait for all of these to be tweaked as well since hey, they're pretty frustrating for survivors and that's the only experience we care about lol

@Lucama said:
I wonder what the response from survivors would be if there was a situation in the game where every survivor goes straight into struggle when hooked, and the devs said "just don't not having the first hook, focus on not getting hooked twice".
And for the record, that's less % of the Killer's objective than 2 generators are for the survivor's objective.
I was just reading another thread and a BHVR person replied saying to apply pressure you just hook someone and when another survivor sprints past you then well duh you just down them too! He said survivors will just sprint past you as if you don’t see scratch marks.
Are BHVR designers all rank 17 killers? Honest question, because these changes they’ve made and the advice they give apply only to casual players who don’t know how to play the game. They can’t give veteran players who know how broken the game is any solid answers because there aren’t any.
And again for people replying telling me zoning the gens is a smart strategy, yeah, I know it is. The problem is they brushed off legitimate map complaints during the Q&A and offered this is a blanket answer. Even if you zone off gens, good survivors will still burn through them. On most maps you can’t end chases quick enough to prevent gens from popping unless you’re using a meta killer.
Another reason I don’t think they really play their own game much and are out of touch with high rank play, they recommend things like three gen strats and slugging, both things that survivors hate and will DC and/or flood you with hate messages for doing.
RIP

Letting the outer gens go makes the map smaller in a way
Being mindfull of wich gens to patrol is actually really good advice for killers strugling with pressure
The only reason to go to the outer gens is at the beginning of the match if you think survivor spawned there
You are not giving up 40% of your objective. Your objective isn't defend 5 gens it's sacrifice as many survivors and that works best if you make your patrol area as smal as possible
Once again really good advice that killers actually should listen too
It’s not bad advice if coupled with admitting that some of the maps in the game are cancer in this meta. But a blanket “deal with it” is pure nonsense. There are maps and gen layouts in the game where even if you just give survivors a free two gens, the rest will still be too spread out. Plus when you start chasing them off the closer gens, nothings stopping them from running away into the far edges of the huge maps. Only now you’d be chasing them with only three gens left instead of five 😆
BHVR sucks

No. My little brother has inquired about it as we play Apex and PUBG together almost nightly and I told him not to bother a week or so ago. Queue times for survivor is too long, killer is too sweaty. Most of my other friends have already tried it a year or more ago and quickly moved on.

Your entire post is invalidated by the fact that it's a hex perk, and those are usually gone 60 seconds into a game. If it wasn't a hex perk, I'd agree with you 100%. It being a hex makes it beyond worthless, and the designers of this change should be ashamed of themselves.
Exactly this. It is absolutely worthless as a hex perk.

So.. stealth isn't a skill? This is one of the playstyle of survivors, and you shouldn't call them potatoes
Sure, they may not last long in chase, but they avoid the chase to give killers fewer chance to apply pressure. Yeah, they get fewer points than you, but that doesn't mean anything since the game didn't account the fact you avoided the chase
IMO every playstyle is good as long as it works
Depends on your definition of stealth.
Sneaking past a killer who came to check on a gen you’re working, nice. Losing a killer in a chase by breaking LOS and leaving no scratch marks, clever girl.
Urbaning on the outside of the map while someone is hooked, waiting for them to die? Trash. Hiding all game doing nothing while everyone else does gens and takes chases etc? Doodoo. Have you ever seen VincentVega play Scaredette? Imagine even worse than that because he’ll at least make somewhat risky hook saves etc.

New ruin is trash. I would pick monsterous shrine or territorial imperative in a bloodweb before this garbage. It gets cleansed before you get any value. If the devs are indeed removing the band-aid to see the wound, how long is it gonna take bring balance. How many rank 15 killers are gonna face a red rank SWFs because nobody wants to play killer.
I don’t think you understand that it’s now a late game perk, it’s insidious, the survivors won’t even know you have it until they’re dead.

I don think pipping requirements have changed. Did I miss something?
You get less of a chance to do anything. One good chase can wipe out three gens. Killers are getting 3-4 hooks maximum. I’ve also been watching streamers, some of them have actually started seeking out the killer to initiate a chase just to get points.

It will be quite common to tap the gen and check, ez reveal. And an even bigger problem with SWF again, as the Surveillance combo would reveal all the gens but only needs one person to do it to inform the comm mates
You’re talking about big brain survivor plays. DbD is being balanced around the new survivors and potatoes now.
-
Um, didn’t you know New Ruin is an end game perk? Don’t worry about what it won’t do early game. It’s insidious, not to be confused with the actual perk Insidious. These survivors won’t even know what is going on when the instant they step off a gen it sparks and smokes and starts to regress.
-
I had a match a few days ago where I took off Ruin as Trapper, got a huge map, got gen rushed, and still played nice. Hooked a David as the gens got done, didn’t camp him even though I’d only got five hooks all game. Chased someone else, David gets rescued. He has Adrenaline. I hooked the other person I was chasing, before I can turn around to go towards the exit gate, David is there. I hit him, he unhooks, I hit him again. I go to pick him up, he dstrikes me and runs off to a now open exit gate as I was playing a four stack.
How does that make any sense? He wasn’t camped, he wasn’t tunneled. He rushed back and made a bad unhook because he knew he had a get out of jail free card. Idk how people can play survivor this way. The game is ez enough as survivor. Ever since then if I get hit with DS that person gets camped and tunneled out of the match. It’s extremely rare I get hit with DS because of tunneling. It’s always survivors using it to be toxic.
As for when it will get changed, uh, never? BHVR is all about stroking the egos and feelings of SWF and baby survivors now.
-
Are you new to BHVR? Watch the Q&A this week, the thread is chock full of important questions and they’ll be ignored for some stupid lore question or something they can use to twist the narrative.

It's not just because of the matchmaking. Even though it is a big problem at the moment.
Ruin is much less used at lower ranks, but it is still used, and it's just too good at those ranks. Ruins power does not depend on the skill of the killer at all. Which means no matter the skill level and rank of a killer, it will always be the same. But it depends on the skill level of survivors at hitting great skill checks. So it scales with the skill level of survivor, but not that of killer. Which is why Old Ruin is a problem. That and because it's insanely RNG based.
Of course you could argue that people need to get better, but hitting great skill checks should not be one of the most important skills to learn in a game like this. It definitely drives some players away. Heck you could argue that even at high ranks, Ruin made too much of an impact solely based on if survivors were good at hitting great skill checks or not. I don't think that should be such an important skill, and should have such an impact on the outcome of the match.
I'd rather have that bandaid fix removed and the game balanced better at base. It's just a shame map reworks have been so incredibly slow, and adding a second objective would need so many other changes to happen alongside it.
Of course the problem is matchmaking. As the video points out but also logically, newer players shouldn't be running into Ruin much at all. Newer survivors should be playing with newer killers who simply won't have Ruin unlocked yet, because it's locked behind DLC. The only way newer players should be running into it mostly is playing lower rank killers who simply aren't very good at killer and thus can't climb ranks.
And of course skill matters on the killers side with Ruin. A crappy killer is going to have gens blown through on him whether Ruin is active or not. As a killer you still have to find survivors, chase survivors, down survivors, and hook survivors while Ruin is up. The issue is for the slower killers, Ruin buys you time to do all those things a couple times before it gets cleansed and gens start popping.
It's piss poor game design to have a game where over 80% of killers at high level play feel they need to have a particular perk in order to stand a chance, but that's the BHVR world we live in. But it's even worse to take that one perk away without even trying to address the reasons why over 80% of the players use it. That's not removing a band aid fix, that's more like taking the cast off a broken leg but the doctor knows the bone hasn't healed. So cool, the cast is off, but the leg is still broken. Nice, Ruin is gone. Hooray for trash survivors who can't hit skill checks. But the core game is still broken.
Maps are still way too big. Maps are still chock full of way too many safe loops, jungle gyms, pallets, etc. Gens still pop way too fast. Speaking of band aid fixes, that's all killers have been getting to fix these issues. Perks that are mostly useless. Broken gameplay elements survivors can easily exploit. It's a 4v1 game where one of the four side can hold the killers attention for way too long considering how fast the matches go. Imagine playing Evolve where one hunter could go toe to toe with a monster. It just doesn't make any sense lol.
-
I play a lot less. I used to be able to sit for an hour or so a day easy and play killer. Now one or two matches and I’m done, usually one. And I usually quit out of at least one match a day because I’m not playing Ormond or another corn map in 2020 😆
Ive been playing more survivor but the queues are too long and the game is too easy.
-
How long Ruin stays up is irrelevant. What matters is per BHVR a majority of survivors are potatoes who can’t hit skill checks. They tried to sell those potatoes a perk that makes great skill checks free and they still can’t hit them. So even a couple minutes of uptime means a couple minutes of gens not popping, enough time for a chase or two.
Now it’s time for two gens to pop.
-
Man I forgot about that piss poor attempt at spinning the Ruin change.
“new survivors don’t even know what’s happening!!” 😆😆😆😆
”they’re too scared by the T3 heartbeat” 😆😆😆😆
”Ruin is a great end game perk” 😆😆😆😆
I also didn’t catch originally that they said Ruin is used in over 80% of red rank games and 45% or whatever overall. Which means it’s usage is way way down outside of red rank. Which means the only reason new survivors would be experiencing Ruin is because of their laughably bad matchmaking. I guess that explains why they’re just going to hide matchmaking.
Imagine being so incompetent as a developer that you have bad matchmaking causing new players to be teamed up with veterans against veteran killers and these veteran killers are using a perk vital to red rank play so you nerf that perk into oblivion rather than oh idk... fixing matchmaking 😆😆😆
I’ve been saying this for months... they don’t care about the core experience anymore. They care about the SWF buddies having a good time and buying cosmetics and battle passes.

You can take off WGLF. You're prioritizing bloodpoints over utility there, that's your own fault.

Oh don't be so negative, new ruin requires killer interaction because old ruin was so good the killer didn't even have to do anything to benefit off of those average 20 seconds of perk usage
"old ruin was so good"
"20 seconds of perk usage"
Which one is it? Old Ruin gave the doodoo M1 killers a chance to get some momentum in early game before it was inevitably taken out. I was going to go more in depth here but I can't be bothered explaining basic game design and elements to these people. I hope they enjoy the new gen rush meta and 20 minute survivor queues.

What about gitting gud?

It is due to Red-ranked killers (and some survivors) intentionally demoting themselves via AFKing to stomp lower-skilled players - causing the matchmaking to force itself to put greens and yellows in a Red-ranked game.

Did you read your own first post?
“most killers are weak and most maps are survivor sided”
Thats the core issue right there. You just admitted that unless you’re playing one of the top tier killers and get a good map, you’re at a heavy disadvantage.
At high level play in this game, matches are dictated by survivors. You’re at their mercy. If they make mistakes you have a chance. If they play optimal, you’re toast.
This is only going to get worse and worse with Ruin gone because theres simply no way for most of the killers to apply pressure across the giant maps this game has.
-
“We’ve found its frustrating for new players and potatoes who can’t hit skill checks to be tunneled. From now on, DS is baseline for every survivor, has infinite uses, and lasts for 30 minutes after each time a survivor is unhooked. We’ll monitor the numbers on this and adjust if enough casuals are still dying”
-
Yeah, it’s about time we got a good end game perk to really slow gens down when they only need one more completed.
-
Yes, he’s even less viable than before.
Yes, he’s lost a lot of what made him unique and his power.
Yes, he’s even more frustrating to play than old Doctor.
Yes, he’s still complete doodoo in chases.
But, is he less annoying for survivors to go against? Can they urban around the map or rush through gens even easier now? Yes? Then mission accomplished

I'm more or less of the same opinion, barring 4 toolboxes (often with BNPs). Same goes for tunneling as well. There's a difference between the killer choosing to go for the same guy and getting unhooked and doing a gen, then expecting them not to go for you. They both get thrown around a lot and it really starts to make them lose all meaning.
Please. It’s blatantly obvious you guys either don’t play the game or do so only in baby ranks against potato survivors. On most of these maps with most of the killers you can’t pressure seven gens consistently enough to stop gens from popping like crazy.
If I load into a corn map or Ormund as Trapper, even if I completely ignore my power and set zero traps, 1-2 gens can still easily pop before I get someone down because the maps are too big or too poorly designed with loads of safe pallets and vaults.
Imagine you have AIDS so you’re having breathing problems so your doctor ignores your AIDS and just gives you some nasal spray. That’s what you clowns did ignoring main issues with the game that causes a lot of killers to run Ruin and just nerfing Ruin. And yeah sure maybe you guys will look at gen times and map layout with Ruin and make changes but at the pace you guys work and change things the game will be long dead. Pretty good job.
-
Gen rushing: survivors ignore potential blood points and pips to rush through a game focusing only on the objective. Very boring for survivor and killer, hard for killer to counter.
Tunneling: killers ignore potential blood points and pips to rush through a game focusing only on the objective. Very boring for survivor and killer, hard for survivor to counter.
Theyre essentially the same thing yet for some reason people make excuses for it on the survivor side but still hate when a killer does it.
-
SOCOM went to **** because David Sears left, not because of money or Zipper ignoring the community.
SOCOM 4 was what it was because of Sony meddling in the development and demanding Zipper make the game more casual and make it more like Call of Duty. Back when GAF was good, multiple Zipper devs confirmed this.
BHVR doesn’t have a publisher to answer to anymore but they’re clearly still focusing on moves to maximize revenue at the expense of balanced gameplay. They want more survivors playing, they want more survivors in SWF escaping and ranking up and having fun because that’s more rift passes and cosmetics being sold. We’ll see how it fares for the game. Personally I already find survivor to be brain dead easy and queues are already super long on Xbox.
-
sorry but I disagree with that idea. Without Ruin, slower and weaker killers are already at a massive disadvantage early. Giving them a task they must accomplish to use their hex totem seems like overkill. What if you never find a decent totem spot?

The thing is, you don't know yet how nerfed Ruin is, it might not even be a nerf, look at Monto playing it with Surveillance, but the thing is that Monto is actually a good killer that knows what he's doing unlike so many of you crying after it...
Well number one, I have played the PTB. Secondly, you don’t even need to have played the PTB to know it’s a huge nerf. All you need is experience playing the game with the current meta. What you’re saying is like telling someone “hey did you try that diarrhea sandwich? No? Well then how do you know it’s not good???”
Also why do I care about what monto or any other professional gamer does with the game? I love how BHVR is admittedly balancing the Ruin nerf around potato survivors who can’t hit skill checks and yet killers are supposed to be ok with it because professional gamers and people who make DbD videos for money and play tons and tons of the game can play around it. Seems like an imbalance to me, idk.
-
Wait, they actually tried to say they think killers were using Ruin because they give a **** about emblems? Please tell me you're joking.
I have been shocked the last day or so at just how utterly clueless BHVR is regarding their own game. For starters you have a dev in this very thread trying to talk down to us about their ranking system when we all know how broken and worthless that system is right now. Secondly they talk about how strong this new Ruin is end game, ignoring the fact that Hex totems don't make it to end game. Not to mention that no, new Ruin isn't strong end game. Doctor, an already very weak killer, is getting changed NOT BECAUSE HE'S WEAK, but because survivors are frustrated by his power breaking stealth and making them scream. But now they're trying to make us believe players care about emblems? l o l
Monetization was the worst thing to happen to this game. Stranger Things chapter killed this game. PS+ and GamePass killed this game. There are so many new casual players and to BHVR they are just dollar signs to be catered to and make money off of. Sad.

Yeah sure, the reworked DS and Balanced are now so bad, no one uses them. Oh wait they’re still amazing perks. Meanwhile Ruin is now doodoo tier. Please don’t make dumb comparisons.

Grow up, while I don't have a problem with the current Ruin, this change might mean that something else will come in the game soon after this change, something like gen speed, they are planning things for the long term for a few months now, so chill.
I like how you listed a bunch of survivor perks that were supposedly nerfed as hard as Ruin is getting nerfed but in reality, outside of Mettle, everyone still uses those perks. Borrowed? Still incredibly strong and popular. Balanced? Still very strong and popular. Self Care? Still a complete waste of time but a popular perk loads of survivors use. Dstrike? Still incredibly strong and abused by many survivors and incredibly popular. The only exception is Mettle which was an outright broken perk.
So you brought up the closest survivor perks you could think of to this Ruin nerf and none of them are even remotely close, and that's not even mentioning that Ruin can literally be removed 25 seconds into a match lol.
