These titles are getting ridiculous
-
Yes but the risk is FAR greater than the reword. While all the other survivors are doing gens you're chasing just the one.
-
Because a lot of people believe it is an issue, and will dodge SWF, which would then be an issue.
-
Because that's the nature of ranked modes in video games. It's lonely at the top. The higher the rank the less people will be there because only a few people will have the skill to be there. Survivor is easier to climb if you care about climbing.

I mean, ruin was nerfed because it was "overused" because when they see a bandaid being used, it's obviously a bad band-aid and not being used to cover up a percieved problem.
So by Dev logic, these survivor perks that are used a ton also need nerfed, right? :P
Like, seriously, these devs seem all over the place. At this point imo the one big fix is to give all survivors coms at base then you can work on balance, as right now they are trying to balance around SWF come squads and solos, who are on such different levels it's just not gonna happen.
No. It was nerfed because it was a perk that was unhealthy. It had no interaction on the killer's end, and it required survivors to be bad at skill checks. And if they WEREN'T bad at skill checks then Ruin was basically a dud. It was oppressive against survivors who weren't as good at skill checks and it was annoying for them to deal with. And according to the devs, when they tested the new Ruin changes even if they lost to the new Ruin it was a lot less aggravating to deal with. And the devs are trying to go for a more fun casual orientated game. If you are mad about the Ruin changes while gens are being done lightning quick then that's fine as long as you don't pretend that the perk was healthy.

World of warcraft and Hearthstone are both RNG based and are both compatative.
What people don't understand is that skill is required for this game, and there's a Meta to compensate for lack of skill. Even if it is RNG you can certainly bring things in your favor by simply being better than the killer or better than the survivors. And by bringing the best perks, items and add ons possible.
-
Is the game Competative? Yes
Would it make it to a serious esport league? Doubtful.
-
To say it was because of the % of people using it is a blatant strawman. That's like saying looking at kill rates alone to determine balance holds weight. It was a stupid and unhealthy perk.
-
Calm spirit really helps against tracking. Crying like a punk is really easy to hear, and I know cuz I use it all the time to find survivors.

It's interesting cuz Killer players claimed they were going to bring Eboni Moris, NOED, slug, camp, etc.
But in the 10 games I've played since the Ruin change, the game has felt less "annoying" when going against a Killer with a Ruin perk. If people are getting hooked within the first few minutes, the suiciding and DCing doesn't start. I remember with old Ruin, if the Killer had 2+ hooks and Ruin wasn't found and destroyed, people would suicide or DC.
With that said, the Hex Ruin regression really does a number on the gen... There have been times I've had a gen at 70%-80% and a Killer chases me off it. I come back to see just the gears spinning and sparks.

Honestly, I love this change. I feel like I can contribute without pulling my hair out looking for a Ruin. Especially on a map like Hawkins.
Honestly those who were THAT upset and vindictive about the Ruin change are probably in the minority.
-
If there's no incentive to play nice....don't
-
Hooks get changed so SLIGHTLY that no one even knows it exists until someone points it out and everyone starts losing their minds? Tfw you're too sensitive with nerfs

Here is my trend of Dead by Daylight. 😎
Seems about right

When someone calls Ruin a crutch perk it's like Goliath calling David's slingshot a crutch weapon.
-
Ghostface. I stop taking the game as seriously in order to cool off and just Teabag around the map, on killers just being an epic troll.
-
Neither. I find it funny how no one said anything when survivors were getting nerfed back to back some time ago. There was no mobs or angry howling people.

It's a trade off for closing the hatch. Closing Hatch>Hatch Grab

Right, because it is fair for a survivor to have 60 seconds of invincibility, yes? It seems giving survivors a broken perk to abuse seems to be your goal.
Yes it is fair. This game is far too momentum based for the neutering of perks like decisive strike and NOED. Though I agree with 3 and 2.

You started talking about Mori in a thread about something that is not Ebony Mori. People should really stay on topic in these discussion threads, they derail way too often.

Its a good thing this thread isn't about ebony Mori! :D

Can They apply pressure? no they can´t well at least they can´t apply pressure well. With the New ¨Buff¨ they became the third worst killer in DBD and not the worst. They should be grateful that I put there ass at the beginning of the DISGUSTANG tier
They do indeed apply pressure with the help of mending and Thanatophobia.

His power is fine when you know how to effectively use it in chases.
The problem is he doesn’t have much going for him outside of good chase potential. He isn’t great at applying map pressure or juggling multiple survivors.
Having quick chases isn’t enough to win the game. You need ways to keep the other survivors occupied even if your chases only last 15 seconds.
Having fast chases are enough. Downing and hooking a survivor is pressure all its own. His chase potential isn't fast enough though, like Nurse, Spirit, and Huntress.

Just a friendly reminder that most red rank matches are by far too easy as killer and the Ruin change is for the better.

Unfortunately, this post won't gain any traction.
It doesn't push the majority's narrative here.
2.5 minute game as Killer? Seems fine!
Most commenting on this are going to do anything to discredit you or the Survivors in game.
"They made so many mistakes, they didn't do x, y or z!"
As some people have said, Survivors are easier to rank up than killer, because of SWF and the emblem system being very forgiving. So a good killer in Red Ranks will more than likely have the skill to take out the survivors, which is also probably the main reason the stats are what they are. Sprinkle in the fact that there are far less killers than there are survivors, and you have the majority of Red Rank killers making it look easy. But this is irrelevant. This post is irrelevant because Ruin was changed for newer survivors. If you want to say killer is dirt easy at lower ranks than I completely agree it is. Because that's what Ruin was changed for.
As for Gen speeds, I think they're more fine than most people would believe, but in the same umbrella Ruin was, it's frustrating. It's unfun. Losing like this as killer is a far more miserable loss than any as survivor and the difficulty that comes with playing killer is more than likely the reason why you don't see many of them.

Videos were already posted and dismissed. Why would they put in the legwork to get you more evidence just to have it disregarded and ignored like the previous ones were?
Those same videos weren't ignored. It was explained why the reveal didn't work. And then gantes ignored this, and maintained their stance. This is called arguing in bad faith. And then gantes had the gall to call someone out for sealioning, which is a form of arguing in bad faith.

A partial irony of the ruin nerf is that as a new player, you're much more likely to get ghostface every 4th or 5th game. He's that common. GF just absolutely destroys new squads.
Every killer destroys new squads. Killer is stupid easy in the low ranks

I get a strange inkling that the only reason this thread is up is to further vilify BHVR for the change to Ruin.

Yes they can power through it and yes its not an all mighty perk that stops gen progression. There will be teams that make Ruin look like its not even working. Its not even consistent, you are right that there are a lot of flaws to Ruin, even more than you mentioned. Ive seen killers complain about how bad Ruin is more than survivors.
Yet its used in 80%+ of games, dont you think that speak volumes about how desperately killers need/want ANY kind of perk that applies even a slight amount of pressure early game? Ruin wasnt good because it had some game breaking effect, Ruin was good because it patched a flaw in the game.
I don't think we disagree on anything. The fact that those teams exist is my issue and why I say it's pretty weak. As far as gen speed is, balance wise I think it's more fair than people believe however I still think it needs to be dealt the same hand Ruin was. Gen speeds are horrendously frustrating and make the overall killer experience downright miserable.
-
@Quol said:
The reason Ruin was so good was because it applied pressure at the very beginning something killer sorely lacked and desperately needed. For example, look at Corrupt Intervention, a lot use it not because it has a fantastic effect (in fact i would call it average) but because it has an effect that applies pressure right at the start.
Killers need perks that place pressure on survivors right at the start. This is why Ruin is used.
You also shouldnt assume Ruin is useless on veteran survivors. While it definitely had less of an effect, when you get a good skill check it pauses gen progress which means unless you AND whoever is doing the gen with you can hit 100% great skill checks you will get screwed over to the constant pausing.
I'm sorry but with the use of toolboxes and add-ons ON TOP of skill, it's too easy to just power through Ruin and gen rush anyway. I'm not saying it's useless against veteran survivors I'm saying it's useless against survivors who are good at skill checks and there's nothing that the killer could do about having a pause that's less than a second is nowhere near enough to be counted as good. If people really think this pause and a 2% bonus prevention is enough pressure to warrant it being top tier than, the standards are TERRIBLY low.

He's way too powerful and easy to play, he needs a nerf. Saying an overpowered killer that was made into a meme beforehand is reason as to why he should stay overpowered is ridiculous.
I disagree he's only very strong if survivors are asleep
-
@Dreamnomad said:
"But in order for something to deserve to be top tier it has to come into account of the highest of play possible."
This is an absurd assumption. The vast majority of players don't qualify as playing the highest quality games. If a perk is effective against the vast majority of players then it is top tier. Popular things are popular for a reason.
That's not how tiers work AT ALL. Just because someone refuses to adapt to a perk doesn't make it good. It only means people refuse to adapt despite being able to eliminate it entirely.
-
@Xerge said:
It denied progression bonus, that was good enough against survivors who are good at hitting great skill checks.
Also; if we are gonna nerf perks because they have a passive effect that doesn't require any effort, then more perks would need to get nerfed on both sides.
I forgot to mention that progression bonus. It's only 2% progression. That is not at all enough to make the perk strong. Especially with a toolbox, or gen speed perks.
It being passive wasn't a problem, it's the fact that it's a passive that requires players to be bad at skill checks. It was a passive that was solely in the survivors control.
-
@Hex_KillerMainBTW said:
The reason ruin was needed for the game is so that you could find survivors before the first generator was completed and hopefully down one person and put them on a hook. If you have three survivors working on one generator while using a slow moving killer such as huntress, by the time you get to the first generator it was completed. AND that's still going to be the case.
However, if you run iri head with soldier's belt, then that huntress is going to be called a try hard. It's unfortunate but true. So with the new ruin you'll probably be seeing more Freddy's, Spirit and most likely Hill Billy.
Do I like new ruin? Yes to a degree. But there needs to be an address on gen speeds and how easy it is to get the first gen out before first chase happens
The reason for this post was not to talk about Gen Speeds but Ruin alone. One thing at a time.

If anything it is a strawman. There is no killer player screaming about not getting 4Ks all the time. When I play Killer I don't need a 4K. I want a competitive, fun game without survivors being toxic/bullying. Spamming vaults, tbagging at the exit gate, "EZ baby killer" in chat. Not high standards really and I highly doubt I am alone.
Also yes its an easy way to discredit someone in an argument by accusing them of only wanting an easy win.
-
Also for those who talk about the stats about red ranks getting more than a few kills there's a 2 VERY important things that aren't taken into consideration
1. Survivor is easier to Rank up in Red Ranks. A rank 4, or even 3 is about still on the level of purple ranks. A rank 1 killer at the very top will have far more skill than a rank 4 or 3 or maybe even 2. A rank 4, 3 or 2 killer will be better than survivors at those ranks, simply because of how forgiven emblems are to survivors.
2. There are far fewer killers than survivors. That's pretty simple.
Thank you for reading now NEVER use these stats in these arguments EVER again. There's a reason the devs say not to draw any conclusions from them, but people are doing their damnest to ignore it.

Honestly he needs a look at. Too many bad killers use him as a crutch, especially at ranks 10-20.
0 reason to balance out of the lowest rank especially since it's so easy to get put of.

They are a company that cares about their product and their customers. They make some pretty odd balance choices now and then, but from what I gather the team is as split in these choices as the community. More importantly, I'm still playing so they're definitely doing something right. I'd rate them high

Tell that to the dude who made a long ass post saying that this WAS in fact a competitive game and not casual. But alas people will never shut up and never realize that this game cannot physically be balanced, and that people might as well stop expecting it to be.
I still hold to that opinion. I like that it's my most liked post, and I like that it was the most liked comment there :)
-
They don't. There was a time where survivors were getting nerfed back to back. Just like killers are now.
-
Doesn't matter. Behavior wants to balance this game around fun, and playing killer is very unfun that's why queue times are long as hell. Losing as killer is 100001x more miserable than losing as survivors. Playing killer is just a miserable experience.
-
People want to play casually and casual players need dem crutches. That goes for NOED, DS, BT, Ruin, all of that.

I can't see him functioning the way people think he will - IE - Rework is meant to make him more fun to play as/against, so I can't see them making it so you can shock a survivor going for a vault/pallet, completely denying them the interaction, and then immediately swinging for a guaranteed hit at 115%.
It doesn't make sense in the rework's context.
I honestly feel like there is going to be a lot of disappointment in his future :(
I can definitely see it, it's much like the hindered status

No stance changing will make him a lot strongger on loops. Even if he still had the slowdown the fact that you wont need to fiddle with that damn meter should be a big help

They might have been working on lery's before haddonfield, and haddonfield is also gettibg reworked atm as you can see in Paulie Esther's video. As the same way they reworked freddy and his map, and Doctor was next, then the priority is doctor and his map. Also, at the same time they are making map reworks, they have to add new maps, and making a map from cero with only the texture prepared is hard.
Here's Paulie's video btw (it also includes a possible new variant of the swamp, so the work to do is even bigger):
I was thinking everything you basically posted. Basically re-releasing DLC. And I had a feeling maps were hard to redesign and rework. If they were they'd be done at a much quicker rate.

It just feels so damn frustrating playing killers at higher ranks atm Gen rushing, some loops being way to strong, bodyblocking, insta blind with flash lights SWF and much more. I would love to know why the devs makes such slow and small changes every patch instead of fixing the issues. It's almost just 3 perks that get changed every patch even tho there is so many of them that are underpreforming and that includes survivor perks. Do they not see how games go in higher ranks or do they not play the game. The only frustrating thing with survivor is getting camped or tunneld. Nothing else while there is a ton of other things that needs to get addresed for killers. Iam getting real tired of it. I dont want to play the best killers to always kill them all. All i want is for every killer to be good and fix the annoying things in this game but the changes are so slow that it might aswell take 3 years for half of it to be changed. For how long will example Plague, Legion and leatherface be terrible. My guess is a very long time since the doctor some how has a higher priority and even that will make him better to play vs as a survivor which means another buff to them. Alot of people are saying that que times for survivors take a really long time. There has to be a reason for that right ? Maybe because killers are unfun to play atm and things needs to get quicker. Since i saw one from the devs plays or atleast knows what league is why can't you just make a patch every 3 week. maybe not 2 weeks since you are a smaller team but that can't be an excuse forever. It should take 1 and a halv month just to get some small balance changes and then a ton of bug fixes.
Keep the test server up at all times or something to make changes regularly not just once in a while. You know a ton of the problems yet you blame it on time and changing whole perks. I dont know much about how hard coding is but since this is your job and you work hard. How come that there is little to no changes in 1,5 months just bug fixes, thats all the patches are starting to become.
Edit: I forgot to notice that challenges. The final ones, escape one time with Claudette, trap 6 people is aton harder than escaping once but ok i let it go. Heal 5 health states (not in a single trial) hmm way to easy to be the final challenge. kill all 4 survivors in the basement in one trial. How is this even fair.
The lack of high rank killers should be a good indicator already. It's a miserable experience.
