It would just make wait times even longer and most killers would play the swf servers. It would kill the game.

I have started a discussion on this to get more feedback and if you head over there you will see that I have already addressed this.

Survivors get 50%BP, not the killer. This would incentivise the killer to play casual more often. He wouldn't be risking his rank and he would be getting the same amount of BP so it's a win-win for the killer.

Also, I don't know what skill level you are but for me personally after I have destroyed a few easy teams I am up for the challenge of a good SWF team.

I have to ask, do you think that all SWF teams are too strong?

I don't and just because you are playing casual and up against SWFs doesn't mean it is always going to be a sweaty game. I just feel like this is a good response to all those people who are complaining on the forums.

I have to agree with some killers who thought that at those higher ranks it is a little unfair to give a team of already amazing survivors the extra advantage of telepathy. This would solve that issue because those high-rank teams would never be competing for rank.

The devs know who play SWF and can collect data from them. They're stubborn though and refuse or take their slow ass time to add QOL survivor buffs that help close the SWF-solo gap. They're stuck on this original vision of survivors not acting as a coordinated squad but instead being mute strangers who switch between teamplay and self interest.

All they need to do to is the following:

    1. Survivor loadouts and groups can be seen by all survivors in the lobby.
    2. Survivors can invite other survivors in the pre-game lobby or the endgame into their group.
    3. SWF groups all have in-built VC for crossplay groups.
    4. A totem counter is added to the UI.
    5. All survivors get a chase indicator, with the obsession having a unique looking one.
    6. Little icons for cleansing totems, repairing gens, healing, and searching chests, etc. appear next to survivor portraits in the UI when performing said action.
    7. When a killer is camping a hook, an icon appears next to a survivor indicating this.

With the gap now closed, the devs could then radically alter generators:

    • Generators now only take 50 seconds instead of 80 seconds to complete.
    • But now survivors need to find 1-3 parts for each gen before they can repair them.
    • The parts are hidden around the map. This would encourage more interaction between killer and survivors.
    • Killers kicking a gen now removes 5% progression.

I really love the thought you have put into this Okapi.

I have to say though that I disagree with all of those changes.

You are focusing on the problem being the difference in skill level between solo survivors and SWF survivors.

And your solution is to radically change lots of UI aspects of the game. Can you really ever see BHVR adding even one of those things? Never mind all of them.

My solution is simple. It takes little effort on their part and would massively improve the quality of gameplay. No longer would I queue for 20 minutes only to get red-rank SWFs one after another.

Solo survivors aren't really that bad either. It comes down to player skill. I have been run about by a team of rank 1 solo survivors. I am not even saying that SWF is a problem. People should be allowed to play with their friends.

I will say that if you are going to play with friends and give yourself that advantage of comms, then you shouldn't be able to negatively affect killers and their ranks. You are essentially giving all survivors a free 5th perk; Telepathy.

This game doesn't have comms built in so people use third-party services to give themselves an advantage. COD doesn't have a built-in aimbot so some people use third-party services to give themselves an advantage.

One of those is cheating so why isn't the other one? Especially in a ranked environment. Seems unfair.

I think it's fine right now. The reality is the people complaining about it either are not that good and think every team is a swf or are just salty that they had a hard time and lost that 1 game out of the 10 they played that night. Adding a casual/ranked mode will not change this. "Bully squads" will show up in both.

People can still go into the current system and just mess about. It's just that most people have a competitive mindset. Like i said earlier, that 1 OP SWF game doesn't negate the rest of of games you played that night. If you are having trouble with all your games, maybe look at your own skill and realize it's you and not that full solo lobby that you think is a swf. Trust me I understand the idea behind getting to rank 1 (atleast for the first time), but once you've been there once (and hopefully realized it wasn't that big of a deal) your games seem to be more chill.

My biggest thought about swf is that it provides a greater challenge and shows how I need to improve upon my skill if I have a rough game.

There is no point in having a discussion with you about this because your input is that anyone who complains about this is bad at the game.

I am a rank 1 Hag main and I hate how often I come up against red rank SWFs that I have no counter to.

I have said before that this is not every single SWF just the good ones.

When you come up against a GOOD SWF, then you really have little to no counterplay.

That is just my opinion and I know that your opinion is that it is perfectly fine. So can I ask you to post a link to a video where you take on several red-rank SWFs and destroy them. I would appreciate it if they aren't cherry-picked. According to the way you said that before I have to assume that you have no issues with these groups and can destroy them match after match with little effort.

I just have to say I really don't appreciate anyone who comes in with little to add to the conversation other than "Get Gud"

I am no world-class player but I evaluate and try to take something away from the games I lose. It's when I have several matches in a row (one the other night where I got the exact same SWF team 2 games in a row) that I lose because of really good SWFs. I do not hate them for playing together and playing well. Good for them. I am also not saying that every single SWF team you come across is OP.

I am, however, pointing out that there is a solution to minimise the amount of bitching that goes on on this forum. No more arguments about balance or unfair SWF teams.

EDIT: As I said above as well. This change could help to collect more accurate stats on the game. Ethan the dev thinks OoO is perfectly fine because the stats say that people who run OoO don't escape that often. What he isn't taking into account is that in most of those games the other 3 SWF do escape.

It's these kinds of misconceptions that could be debunked if they had proper SWF data.

Killer mains are so cringe with their assumptions, I play solo almost exclusively, when I stream I sometimes team up, but I don't use comms, and when I play off stream which is incredibly rare I only play with one other person.

Here is dozens of hours of me playing solo or queued with 0 comms - https://www.twitch.tv/senzuduck/videos?filter=archives&sort=time

Honestly so embarrassing how killer mains always make these wild assumptions, sorry I don't follow the "killer is hard" trend that the forum likes to push, I don't find killer hard, not my fault.

Try again though, maybe your assumptions will be right next time.

Do you know what is super cringe? You saying that you play almost exclusively solo survivor but then the in same post saying that you don't find killer hard.

Well isn't that funny. So which is it? Do you only play as solo survivor or do you also play as killer? Is killer really that easy? So why do you only play solo survivor?

You must be absolutely amazing at this game. Could you post a link to a video on your twitch where you play as killer against red rank SWFs so I can pick up some tips. I mean you must obviously be amazing if you only play solo survivor but find killer easy.

  • @Seraphor said:

As I mentioned in your other post where you suggested this:

Why would killers ever bother playing on the 'Casual' mode?

This would be 'tougher' for killers, because that's where all of the SWFs will be. But you'd only gain half of the reward for going against tougher teams?

It seems like this is splitting the game up into a 'Killer sided' mode with full bloodpoint gains, and a 'Survivor sided' mode that only has half the bloodpoint rewards... and no killers to match against.

Could you do me a favour and wait for a reply before continuing to ask the same questions across several discussions. I have answered this question but was halfway through typing it when you posted here. Cheers bud :)

Thank you for your reply, it is appreciated. I have thought about this already though.

You could continue to offer full BP to killers. This along with the fact that rank won't be affected should lead to killers wanting to get most of their practice on Casual. There is no drawback for killers on casual, except that you may end up in a sweaty game.

I do think this would help to balance the game more though. The Devs would then have stats that reflected more accurately the current state of the game and of SWF perks, e.g. Object of obsession.

I don't know if you heard the dev Ethan saying that he didn't think OoO was that OP because according to the stats, players with OoO don't escape that often. It's these kinds of misconceptions that could be overcome if they had accurate data from those who play SWF.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2133180#Comment_2133180

Splitting up the game modes in any way gets a big no from me.

Survivors will mostly play 'Casual'. I won't play survivor at all unless I'm playing with friends.

But why would killers bother playing Casual? They'd only end up with "tougher" games as that's where all the SWFs are, but only get 50% of the BP for it...

The survivor queue times for SWFs via 'Casual' would be insane.

I appreciate your suggestion and I have thought about this.

You can still award the killer full BP but with no rank change. This would incentivise them to continue to get practice playing casual mode.

Only talking from my experience but after getting some wins against noob players I am usually up for the challenge of red rank SWFs. Yes, I may only get a 2k on average against them but at least it's a challenge.

This is you average red rank SWF team. You're discounting the majority on non-red rank players.

Oh for sure I am discounting them because no one is on here complaining about green rank SWFs.

The issue is those teams that do run all the meta perks and completely bully some killers. As I have said before, certain killers just do not stand a chance against those try hard red rank SWFs. No matter how well you play, they just don't stand a chance.

But where is said "good way"? I didn't see anything good in OPs post lul

Heres a way to balance SWF. Three game modes:

Ranked - Solo queue survivor or play as killer. This is ranked

Casual - Here you can SWF but you earn 50% BP and your rank won't change.

KYF - Keep this the same, it is perfect.

    Thoughts?

  • @Stryker said:

happend to me today, i went against a SWF(3 people), 2 of them were 3-4 red rank, and 1 rank 13 (with good addons), and yeah, it was extremely painful and unfun(...was using a trickster with 3 bad perks...).

SWF is unfair, because this game isn't balanced at all and it can't be competitive due to many, many problems( such as lightining that changes when you lower the graphic, and putting it on the lowest setting, the game becomes very bright, and not everyone knows this thing, so, if you play a sa killer without knowing this, you basically get a minor handicap.....)

remove SWF? no....but make an option that allows the killers to avoid SWF players.

My solution is simple. Three game modes:

Ranked - You solo queue or play as killer. This is ranked.

Casual - Here you can SWF but you earn 50%BP and your rank wont change

KYF - Keep this the same, it is perfect.

    Thoughts?

SWF only provides a greater capacity for coordination via communication.

It's still up to players to use their skills and utilise that coordination.

While they have an unfair advantage over solo survivors, it doesn't make them "overpowered" unless all 4 SWFs are also tryhard PC players running gen rush builds with all the second chances thrown in.

Until the recent patch I couldn't tell you a time when I didn't come across a red rank SWF team running all DS at least 2 BT, usually with soul guard as well. There would be at least 1 prove thyself and 2 tool boxes, 1 med kit and a key.

This is your average SWF team. You're trying to tell me that this team also having extra coordination is totally fine and doesn't in any way affect the gameplay or the experience for the killer?

    Agreed.

A lot of people lack the ability to see their own mistakes and like to blame other things for it.

The only thing that it does is preventing you from improving yourself.

    Quite a dangerous mindset.

I agree that people make mistakes but you have to admit that you basically have to play a perfect game to beat a good SWF. It just seems a little messed up that you can condone that kind of gameplay.

I know when I have had a bad match and usually take the time to try and figure out where I went wrong. I do still find myself asking "What else could I have done?" against SWFs. I feel like I play really well but maybe I picked someone up when I should have continued to chase the second person or whatever. When that is your only mistake in a game but you still lose, that's the frustrating part. When you see game after game like this, it gets worse.

I don't want to play this game to be a sweaty ass killer all the time, it's stressful. Sometimes I just want a casual game but instead I get try hard SWFs.

I main Hag btw. I find that a good SWF will basically always have someone following me around triggering my traps from a distance. I teleport and give chase only for one of my traps that I set chasing the last guy to be triggered. I ignore it though because he is just trying to steal my attention. I chase the current survivor to a loop and trap it to lock down the loop. The survivor I am chasing moves loop, as he should, and as I am chasing him the previous trap I have just set goes off. Even if I know its about to happen and I insta teleport they are already too far away for me to hit them and chasing them is just wasting even more time without getting even a hit on someone.

This was something that would happen a lot to me as Hag against a good SWF. So I had a think about it and tried a couple of different strats to try and get the upper hand. Truth is that there is nothing that you can do against this. They can trigger your traps from too far out and you will never get the insta hit from the teleport. The hag is slow so if you try to chase at that point you are going to be wasting a lot of time. If you leave traps anywhere to try and catch a survivor they will be triggered by someone else.

Point I am getting at is that against certain SWFs, there is NO counter. If they are a good SWF team then certain killers just dont stand a chance.

If you have any suggestions that would be helpful that would be awesome. However, I have been noticing that the majority of people who disagree with me are the ones playing spirit and nurse and they are filling this forum with, what is essentially, "Get Gud"

My solution to all of this and to stop the arguments is a simple one. Three game modes:

Ranked - You queue as a solo survivor or a killer. These games are ranked

Casual - Here you can play as a SWF but 50%BP and no rank changes.

KYF - Keep this exactly the same, it is perfect.

    What do you think?

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2126162#Comment_2126162

Then show some gameplay footage of you going against those groups.

I'm sure we can spot some mistakes you did in those matches

I'm sure you could spot some mistakes. Do you really think it is ok that a SWF team wins should you make the smallest of mistakes?

I know that I am not the best killer in the world but I am certainly not bad. I have maintained myself at rank 1 as hag for ages. I don't anymore because I don't enjoy the sweaty gameplay and constant sweaty SWFs.

The game ceases to be fun at higher ranks, why? .......SWFs!

There is no other explanation. SWFs in general are not a bad thing but a team of highly skilled SWF is almost impossible to win against. (A win in my eyes is at least a 3K) Even the smallest of mistakes and that is you done.

My solution to all this BS arguing is to have three game modes:

Ranked - You queue as solo survivor or killer. This is ranked.

Casual - You can SWF but you will earn 50% BP and will not be ranked.

KYF - Keep this the same, it is perfect.

What do you think? Any suggestions?

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2126156#Comment_2126156

It's far easier to blame something in game than admit you might not be very good at it, which is something a lot of people that play this game lack, the ability to admit they had a bad match.

You're really painting with a broad brush there.

You are implying that anyone who struggles against a SWF just did badly and they can't admit to themselves that they played badly.

I have to strongly disagree. I am a killer main and have hit rank 1 before when I was try harding. However, it was no fun. Once you reach red ranks you are matched against red rank SWFs whose whole purpose is to destroy the killers as quickly as possible. In those scenarios, even the smallest of mistakes can lead to a loss. Which as a killer can be pretty frustrating game after game.

I mean you are giving SWFs telepathy. No perk needed, they can talk to each other from across the map without conscequence. I have to think that anyone who can side with that being a fair advantage is just plain wrong or a paid actor from BHVR.

My solution is a simple one that would take very little effort on BHVR's part and would stop all future arguments about SWFs and balance.

There should be three game modes:

Ranked - You queue as a solo survivor or killer. This is ranked

Casual - Here you can SWF if you like but you earn 50% BP and won't change rank.

KYF - Keep this is the same, it is perfect.

    Any thoughts? Suggestions?

  • @ad19970 said:

It's a necessary feature in this game, without it many people would stop playing this game.

The only solution to this is to buff solo survivors as close as possible to the level of swf survivors via information, kindred as base kit and a totem counter being the main contenders here. And then buff the majority of killers that aren't top tier yet.

But I do also sometimes feel like some people exagerrate a bit how much stronger swf is. There certainly is a fair share of killers in this game now that can deal with good swf teams as well.

I have suggested it before and will at every single mention of other options because I feel like your suggestion makes little to no sense.

Instead of buffing solo survivors or giving them base kits we should just have 3 game modes:

Ranked - You queue as a solo survivor or a killer. This is ranked mode.

Casual - You can play as a SWF but you earn 50% BP and you will not change rank

KYF - Keep it exactly as it is, It's perfect.

Do you not think this will quell all future arguments on rank and SWFs?

  • @Seanzu said:

You know the majority of people don't actually struggle against SWF. The ones that do just seem to congregate on this forum and create a huge echo chamber, I would suggest putting more hours into killer, it's not that hard.

I am a killer main. I have been rank 1 and found that the game dies in red ranks. If you want to be a top-notch killer you have to tunnel and camp. You have to be ruthless. It's really no fun whatsoever.

I still have trouble against SWF's and I think anyone who says that they never have trouble against SWFs is straight-up lying.

Not only that, mixed with the ranking system and the comms, this game becomes near impossible for killers.

IMO they should have three game modes:

Ranked - You join a solo queue survivor or play as a killer. That is ranked gameplay.

Casual - Here you can SWF but you will earn 50% BP and the games will not affect the ranking

Kill Your Friends - This doesn't need to change. This is perfect the way it is. Just a total mess about.

I think that with these simple changes there would be no more discussions about SWFs or ranking. If someone complains about being run about by SWFs then you can say to them "Just change game mode" without sounding like a Dev.

But this will never happen because the reality is that BHVR doesn't actually care about the game.

They appoint "Fog Whisperers" and then ignore their suggestions.

They get their balancing from someone who doesn't play the game.

They tell us not to make judgements using statistics but then in the same breath defend not changing certain perks because of statistics.

It truly is a shame because they have an amazing product. It's just a shame it is broken and no one at BHVR is willing to take any responsibility for it, instead, saying that the community is wrong.

When will survivors get their pallet stuns back? When will you fix the number of keys in chests at the moment? (I haven't played a game in over a month where the last two survivors don't escape with a key they found.)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1605135#Comment_1605135

I am a pompous ass because of what? Buying the DLCs? Are you drunk?

If you want to have something, buy it. If you dont have the money for it, safe it and work for it and dont blow it out for whatever stuff.

When i was a kid / young adult back in the 80s and 90s, videogames for console costed about 100 Dollar where i lived. The value of this would be more then 200 Dollar / Euro nowadays. I worked for a single game during summer just to be able to buy this for my 8 or 16 bit nintnedo. A normal walkthrough was maybe a few hours. Was i complaining? Heck no, it was awesome.

Today you get a game you can spend thousends of hours for almost free. Dead by Daylight costed a few $/€ on sale ... and DLCs are the same. If you get them all on sale, you spend maybe 50€ for a game+DLCs... and you can play them for YEARS and devs still deliver and update content. Even if it would be 200 € Its an absolute joke to complain about.

And on top of it, you can even get perks and DLCs for free on the shrine. You can even buy most dlcs for free, so again whats the problem mate?

And to talk about "advantage" because the better perks you have to "buy"... so when they rework some perks what they do right now and all the best killer perks suddenly are "free" and for all the good survivor perks we have to spend money on suddenly... are we then complaining about the same but this time survivors are the kacked? Just pointless, sorry.

Yes you are still a pompous ass. Once again you talk about saving money when you were a kid and suggest that I am blowing my money on other things.

What I am saying is that you are obviously privileged if you think everyone is in the same situation where they blow money on things.

I make sacrifices so that the people I love can eat and have some of the nice things in life like internet and mobile phones.

I don't have money, not because I am blowing it, because I spend every penny looking after my family.

I play video games occasionally to de-stress. So when I see that a game gives out the best perks for free for one team, while the other has the best perks hidden behind a pay wall, I would consider that an advantage for one side over the other.

Can you honestly say that this isn't the case? Can you honestly argue that this isn't a blatant advantage?

If so then there is no point in continuing this discussion. You will always believe that the game is perfectly balanced because you had money to 'blow' on DLC.

Just so you know. I have so little money I didn't even buy this game, my friend bought it for my birthday so we'd have something to play together. Not everyone has the same opportunities as you. Suggesting that a game is balanced because you can just spend more money on it is stupid.

By that logic Battlefront 2 by EA was a perfectly balanced game with all of its loot boxes and micro-transactions.

If they increase the cancel time, they need to decrease the attack time of his ability. You literally can't hit a survivor who is not locked in animation or stuck in a tight space with his ability.

If survivors want to increase the CD, then his ability needs to be instant damage.

That's just not true. The increase in cancel is to stop the constant fakes that leave survivors unable to do anything.

If you can't hit people with PHs ability it's because you are bad at the game. His attack speed is fine. It's the fact that he could stick his sword in the ground, not be slowed at all, then if you wiggled to avoid his ability he would just cancel and M1 you. I think the cancel on his ability should be 3 seconds. If you have stuck your sword in the ground it's because you want to scrape the ground or use your ability. No more PH chasing me with his sword in the ground.

  • I think they should increase how long it takes to exit the power but not how long it takes to enter it. I also believe he should move slightly slower whilst transitioning between the two. At the moment he seems to be able to fake his ability with no loss of speed or distance.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/188952/how-can-some-people-call-this-game-killer-sided

All in all íts your opinion and I disagree a bit with what you say.

    Perks:

Who cares if they are DLC or not? Get them from the shrine or buy the DLC.

    Items:

There are tons off extremly powerful addons for killer and not just Iri head. Iri head is extremly broken and by far stronger then any addon for an item survivors have tho.

Survivor have Spytic Agent, key and well.. thats about it... i dont know why you even mention Commodius toolbox, Toolboxes are useless now.

Then you say killer only have Ebony or Ivory mori... you know, offerings which are more powerrful then all the items and addons survivors have.

    Maps and Tile Spawns:

Alone that you generally put autohaven as survivor sided gives me a good insight how much you care to look at both sides equaly. It is true that indoor maps are usually more killer sided, but those are definitly not the only ones. Just look at Saloon, Sanctum of Wrath, Shelter Woods, Chapel, Azarovs etc all killer sided without a doubt.

And about tile spawns.... lol icould also say deadzone after deadzone after deadzone... what you are talking about is rare. Safe loops into safe loops are really not that common anymore.

Ormond is true tho i give you that, they should remove a few pallets.

    Bugs: For both sides...

You will make a follow up on the history of things being nerfed? Great, this might open your eyes a bit ;)

You are a pompous ass. If you don't have the DLC just buy them...

Not everyone has a mummy or daddy to step in when they need money. Some of us have to work and have people to support. So maybe don't have spare cash for a video game.

You completely missed his point though. Some of the best survivor perks are free from the get go, whilst the best killer perks are all locked behind a pay wall.

So survivors get the advantage of headsets and always knowing when it's safe to do gens/unhooks, as well as the best perks from the offset. Whilst a killer who doesn't have rich parents or lack of responsibilities has to cross his fingers that it shows up in the shrine?

    Yeah, definitely balanced... (<Sarcasm)

I can feel that and agree with you. But I do not think dev will support 2 queues because it will split the player base. And no killer wants to against sweaty SWF, especially there is no reward after all.

Well I was thinking about that. You could give a 50% boost to BP for survivors who solo queue and a 100-150% BP boost to killers who choose to play against SWF by choice. This might seem steep but to be fair killers have a really hard time against good SWF and I think it would be good encouragement to do so.

I mean yeah with perfect play you could have beaten this team but who plays perfectly every single game. I played against an entire team of megs the other day who really messed me up as I was playing as ghostface. Trying to remember who I had stalked was impossible. I ended getting a 3k but that is just because they were super altruistic.

I still advocate that there should be 2 queues, one solo and one swf.

    it got encrypted today's patch...

so the other day, sure. Not supposed to be doable anymore

YEah someone mentioned that. I thought the encryption was with the last patch, totally my bad.

  • Agreed this perk didn't really need anything done to it. Now though it is harder to get off if you are using any killer with an m2 attack. I think it should keep first part but then make it so that the survivor cannot crawl at all. They are supposed to be knocked out so how about they recover 50% slower, cannot crawl and their aura isn't revealed to other survivors outside of the specified ranged. Nothing wrong with that.

That's not true anymore. The log file is encrypted.

I was playing with someone the other day who said he was using a program to read the log files. I am aware this is cheating but he was accurate with his predictions so I have to believe he had a working program. It sucks but people out there are still doing this.

For your own sake - stop. This will only end badly for you. You don't have what it takes.

Even if it is slang. It's better than your slang, and it generally accepted.

That is a completely different meaning of cause. Just saying. Because and cause are different.

  • The only problem with this is that survivors check log files to find out which killer they are against and I used to switch killers last minute to try and negate that unfair advantage.

BHVR really need to think about these sorts of things when making their decisions. This is another in a long line of updates which have been nerfing killer abilities whilst ignoring the basic abuses of the game by survivors.

I see they are trying to make cannibal stronger but tbh he was already strong enough. If you came across a semi-decent cannibal he would just one hit everyone and slug them then win the game. I dont know ######### they are discussing over at the BHVR meetings but it obviously is out of touch with the community.

That's good to know buddy. Thank you for the feedback.

I'm sure that it does mention body blocking if you try to report someone for trolling. As I say though, I think they are talking about not playing the game properly and just blocking someone for the entire match.

  • You can apparently be banned for body blocking but I think they are talking about blocking a survivor into a corner and not moving for the entire match.

Stopping someone who has stepped into a stupid place, body blocking, then uncloaking to hit them is totally cool. I wouldn't worry about it.

It is an issue that players aren't taken seriously and the main concerns never even spoken about.

Buddy, no. Then you have the SAME PROBLEM YOU'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT with people who are repeating talking points (like the one you say you got sarcastic comments from and the one you said got banned which if I recall was another THEY NERFED BILLY Thread). You were originally complaining about mods/devs not responding to something ONLY A FEW DAYS AFTER the freaking PTB got released, one of MULTIPLE similar threads, yet want BHVR to immediately respond to your specific thread. Hell, the community managers are PROBABLY ALREADY DOING what you're now suggesting (Used for Talking points for any streams), it's just that time is a factor.

And when you say that the "devs" will pick those topics, you're likely far, far, far off base. Jobs are role based. So if someone is filtering through the forums as part of their position, they're going to be specialized for that, like a community manager with PR, or you know, an unpaid volunteer who presents their consolidated talking points to the community manager, who presents it to the community manager, who has the devs give it a once over in maybe a once a week/month 1hr meeting where the talking points are read out and maybe only a 3rd are discussed due to time constraints/discussion. And basically it just becomes a list item on some Living Document that Devs might comment on (probably anonymously) and that document is then presented in the forums during updates rather than live because most devs don't want to take additional time to go present to a live audience and get #########-talked to their face for why they're taking so long to do something.

If you want it to be more personal, and not as detached like you originally are complaining about, you're going to need specialized forum zones, with people specialized to aggregate complaints/suggestions to cut down on the influx of content per 'data collector' (And these people are likely be unpaid volunteers), You'll need to realize that the Devs are likely not the ones who will respond to you (but someone with an official handle will occasionally, which will make you feel good, if you're on-point and well spoken), and that given the likely fortnight sprint based nature of things, actual pertinent dev responses might take Weeks to come out because for the most part, part of their job is to wait it out and collect data on their changes, because sometimes the majority have knee-jerk reactions.

Well done on going into my profile and reading the last few things I've posted. Really diligent work. Maybe you should work for Behavior!

According to this forum that PTB was released 6th July. I made my initial complaint on the 4th before that Topic was removed and a few days later replaced with this one. So PTB is not really an excuse for the lack of engagement.

I didn't ask that DBD respond to specific threads, I just asked that they respond to genuine gripes that the community has been complaining about for years. The lack of response in the feedback section concerns me.

When I say "The Devs pick" I am not actually talking about specific devs taking it in turn to pick out topics. I am suggesting that the Community manager could do that. Then he could take that topic and discuss it at a meeting with the Devs, exactly how you have described it above. Then as a whole "THE DEVS" could discuss it and think about it in their own time. And then a meeting could be held at the end of the working week to gather feedback from them. Then on the Sunday, with a list compiled by the devs themselves or by community moderators working on instructions from the devs, they could deliver an AMA type of thing.

Now I understand that you see problems in this and I am hearing that you have preconceptions that I am some toddler just throwing his dummy out of the pram. Instead I am just trying to spitball ways in which you could appease large groups of the player base who have actively voiced concern over their feelings of being "Ignored". Feeling ignored is perfectly understandable when you consider that these gamers have put money towards making this game what it is. They have supported the game through it's early years and held on for initial issues to be resolved and this has never happened. Instead they hit with new content with a price tag but no news of what they plan to do to remedy problems that have now been there for years.

Instead of just saying that this can't be done, have you ever considered making a suggestion of how this could be dealt with.

Or maybe you just don't see it as being a problem at all. Which is fine because that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. However, it is the opinion of a lot of other people that this is a problem and I agree with them and want to do something to help fix it.

Can't say for sure, but I think they're pointing out how annoying it is when you have people nagging for constant replies to every little thing.

I get that, I just wanted to start a discourse with them. Which if you read down I did.

This person has taken my argument to the extreme and argued that it is unfeasible for the Devs to reply to everything. I pointed out that there is a way that the Devs could appease the community whilst also fixing issues with the game that have been complained about for years.

It doesn't take them hiring anyone new or spending loads of money on their forum or game. I was just suggesting that the devs do a sort of AMA type thing, once a week, on just the most popular Topic from the feedback section of the forum.

They can tell the most important by checking forum stats which I imagine they will have, if not I'm sure they could program some. They then just need to discuss among themselves for a week and then let a dev respond to community questions regarding that issue.

Just a thought. Anything is better than the current system for getting feedback to devs.

This would also alleviate the issue of repeated questions and complaints as you could just direct people to the AMA transcripts.

I was never trying to be an asshat about this. I just wanted more awareness and hopefully support in getting something like this put in place.

I love this game, I want to help to make it better. Nothing more, nothing less.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this topic :)

I have another forum suggesting a way that they could better engage with the community. If you could comment on that, that would be great. Mainly because the more comments a post gets the higher up the forum it will be and hopefully, they will take the suggestion and maybe roll with it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1427083#Comment_1427083

So basically you want the Devs/Moderators to comb through and 'validate' every comment and post, no matter How Repetitive on a subject and irregardless of any volume, so all users get to have the good feels that their comments were heard, rather than consolidate threads by closing duplicates and not bothering to touch on topics that generally are out of the realm of possibility?

Damn, almost sounds like The Elder Scrolls Online Community Ambassador Program, where the company delegated that responsibility to unpaid volunteers with different views/roles who also played in the game, relegating it all into multiple MASSIVE threads on topics thousands of comments long (Much like a feedback thread, but on a single post that, some of which might be: Feedback regarding Killer [X], Feedback regarding Survivors, Feedback regarding Maps, etc.)

I can see unpaid volunteers with a passion for the game doing it, but no way in hell is a company going to hire enough moderators to do something like that (though this game is smaller), I mean hell, are these moderators paid (I don't actually know)? And anything from the devs side will purely be on their off-time, and if they actually make Forum rules/regs/structures on their off-time, HR is going to bring down the NO hammer likely because of grey areas they wouldn't want to get involved with regarding overtime.

The best outcome you could hope for is an Expansion of the Fog Whisperers program on the forums where you have 'Whisperer' Users that might be a spokesperson for a given subject, where they (just themselves and/or others) are tasked with the maintenance and data collection of a specific post that pertains to a specific part of game-play. This in turn is converted into weekly/monthly "reports" from these "Whispers" in a consolidated format that is "presented" to Devs/Mods which might be spoken about in something such as a DEveloper Update (or a Monthly Feedback thread). But these Whisperers will likely take some of the flak that the moderators will do, and overtime the entire program will be jaded to a point of being just another feature with the problems regarding a feeling of importance. But at least a feature that makes the company look like they're interacting with their community more, and can be a 'scapegoat' for "developer responses". I would still support something like this.

I understand the logistics of trying to co-ordinate a feedback system for this forum. It could be an arduous task, however, I feel like it doesn't have to be.

There are systems in place that means that Topics can be tracked to find out how popular they are. The Devs would just have to pick the most popular from that week and discuss it among themselves. Then they could take part in a weekly AMA regarding that one topic.

I don't think this would take any more than a couple of hours of the devs time per week. It would consolidate a lot of these repeated topics into an easy to read AMA transcript.

Then Mods wouldn't have to settle arguments or post in unanswered feedback topics because they would just be able to direct people to the AMA transcripts.

You make it sound like it's mountains and rivers in the way when actually its speed bumps and puddles. This is not an overly difficult thing to implement.

  • @Seanzu said:

    Yikes.

Ok, let me explain a couple of things to you, the blue people you see are Moderators, they are volunteers and not developers, additionally, if Peanits responded to you, he also isn't a developer, he's a community manager, and I suspect the reason he has "Developer" attached to his forum account is because it has higher permissions to do things on the forums than the Community Manager role.

Also, the forums are mostly meant to be a user to user conversation place, not a user to dev conversation place, the reason for this is this community likes to widely speculate and take things completely out of context which is why I assume most devs just read the forums and take in information rather than discuss it, but that's a symptom of the toxic community this game unfortunately has.

You didn't bait anyone, go look at any of the devs accounts and see that they have responded to several people, the issue is mostly people argue here, it's hard to have a conversation when the devs likely know the outcome which is usually some conspiracy theory about the devs hating killers, people rarely post good suggestions and instead post their hot takes and get into arguements over it.

I understand I probably have more time to respond than devs.

However, saying that, I take the time to try to respond to all the people who are nice enough to contribute to my topic.

I have read your comment and I must say that you make assumptions that my previous posts have had no merit or coherent suggestions, but rather my hot takes.

I didn't join this forum just to get into arguments with people. I joined because I love the game and would love it if any of my suggestions could help in any way.

I did post that bait post, purely as an experiment. One which worked perfectly.

I had noticed a distinct lack of responses from Devs or Community managers in the "Feedback and Suggestions" section of the forum. I went through post after post looking for some community engagement and was unable to find any.

After discussing with some other people they also voiced their concern at the lack of care from the Devs.

I then posted a topic to try and bait someone into responding.

It only took 20 minutes and I had my first Dev comment. Another 20 minutes after that I had a different Dev comment on my post.

So within an hour 2 separate Devs were able to post on my nonsense topic and yet they were letting real concerns fall by the wayside.

I won't lie, this incensed me. I couldn't believe that the people with DEV tags on their name were willing to come to my topic to post sarcastic, unprofessional replies but were unwilling or unable to respond to genuine problems within the game.

I have suggested it before and i will continue to suggest it, in the hope that it is echoed by others who think it is a good idea: The Devs should pick one topic a week from the feedback and suggestions section of the forum. They should then discuss that topic among themselves over the course of a week. Then on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night they should have an open discussion with the player base regarding that topic. Like a Reddit AMA but for one particular topic.

The Devs could let the community know what they think about these issues and how important they are in comparison to other issues they face. They could also gather feedback from users, maybe to impact on future decisions.

I know this community can be toxic, trust me, but that doesn't condone them being neglectful of genuine queries.

Last note: The community has been crying out for some SWF balance for years.

The Devs responded in Jan 2020 by nerfing Hex:Ruin and now they have nerfed Billy. That seems like the exact opposite of what is being asked for. How are we supposed to feel as a player base when our concerns are not only ignored but actively worked against.

  • @MegaWaffle said:

I agree completely that BHVR needs to figure out a more transparent way to communicate with the community.

Back in the time tunnel when DBD was really gaining traction I felt BHVR was doing a great job at talking with the community, keeping us updated on plans in the works and bringing up some of the bigger community asked questions. Even if they couldn't always provide an answer you wanted to hear they were at least talking with us.

I can understand with the community having grow much larger at this point we would inevitably see a decrease in the more "personal" feeling discussions, but I am disappointed to see many major issues discussed far less.

If BHVR just came out and said "Hey we see many people concerned about (insert topic) we are looking at it, in fact here are a couple of spitball ideas we were tossing around. we would also like to hear ideas from the community" - Not only would this show that they are actually looking into the topic in question but also make the community feel like they are contributing in some way. Sadly as things currently stand most responses feel more "Corporate / Generic" rather than from an actual human who enjoys playing/making the game.

You really hit the nail on the head in that last paragraph.

If they could even say, "We've heard you. Here's what we might be able to do, what do you think?"

That is all I ask. That's all the community asks. Just a little bit of back and forth.

I didn't join this forum just to insult people. I am here for the same reason a lot of people are here. I love the game and I want to help suggest ways that it could be better.

Yes, that was my point. The devs were willing to respond with sarcastic comments to my, clearly bait, post but they weren't responding to anything of real value.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/168593/devs-censoring-those-topics-they-dont-agree-with

If you go to the front page of “general discussions” right now you’ll find post after post disagreeing with the devs and their decisions. Some of them are polite disagreement and criticism, and some of them veer off into conspiracy theories, insults and people pretending they’re oppressed victims because they play one role and not the other in a video game.

Most of these threads don’t get deleted. Believe it or not but the devs and mods here are actually pretty forgiving when it comes to how people word their criticism. But they shouldn’t and don’t have to put up with insults or time wasters because people don’t like some decisions they’ve made.

I’m someone who is pretty critical of the devs, I don’t agree with some of the things they do and I’ve voiced those criticisms here. I’ve never been censored though because I’m able to voice my disagreement without talking ######### about people personally or breaking the rules of the forum. Maybe you should remember that the people you’re talking about are human beings with different opinions, not evil overlords, and try to do the same.

At no point did I ever point out any particular dev and insult, neither did I insult them as a group.

I would like to think that my criticism of them was articulate and well thought out and devoid of profanity. Yet, it was still taken down after only one day.

Now I cannot say whether every single post in there was polite. Then again, even if there were some bad comments in there, why should my entire post be taken down for it?

I am not trying to veer into conspiracy. I am merely stating that one night my post was up and there was plenty of discussion about the absentee Devs in the forum. The next morning "This page cannot be found"

When I look back through the feedback, on the 4th of July, I had to scroll back an entire month just to find one Dev reply. The reply was asking for suggestions to a problem stated, then after that, nothing. No response to the suggestions made and no Dev comment for the rest of the month.

This shows a lack of interest in the concerns of the community, in my opinion. Which makes me sad because I really love this game. I think it could be even better with a little bit of elbow grease.

One last thing before I talk too much. The devs have been getting the same complaint about SWF for years now. Instead of ever addressing the problem, they have stayed very quiet. They will release new content, with a price tag, but they won't fix years old gripes that the community has been very vocal about. It just goes to show where their priorities lie. Which I don't grudge, they are a business after all. I just think that fixing the game should be a very close second and it just doesn't feel that way.

  • This is the kind of attitude that leads to nothing ever getting changed.

Instead of having any constructive input you thought you would spend your time slinging insults. That is ok though. It is your right to say what you feel and no one should be able to take that away from you.

I will stand up for your right to say what you like to whomever you like.

I would like to know if you do have anything about the game that you would like to see fixed or changed.

Is there anything at all that bothers you or that you have seen being asked for that you think would be a good addition?

And that "role" is exactly what the Community Team does, that's their job - Peanits is incredibly active and has the Dev tag for that purpose, as he can speak for the team that he is part of.

Moderators are here on a volunteer basis and also carry back information and feedback as well as myself. We all have our jobs to do here, Developers are here during their free time, and most read without commenting due to time - when you've worked on something all day, it's pretty tiring then to spend your free time doing the same thing.

I am not trying to kick up a fuss here for no reason but the truth is that your "Community Team" isn't enough to deal with the volume of feedback that you get.

I think @coppersly made a very good point. The lack of comments or engagement does leave us in the dark on most issues. Your response was to tell him that people are people and they are tired after a days work. Well if that is the case then maybe you should rethink how the forum is managed.

It is not enough to have a "Community Team" whose job is just to make sure people are conversing nicely and that no one is breaking the rules.

We the community need people to read our suggestions and then take action on them.

I have said it once and I will say it a thousand times if I have to.

Once a week the devs should pick a topic that is most discussed in the feedback and suggestions. They should take a week then to discuss that subject. Then once it has been discussed you could have a live or not so live AMA, say every Sunday. This would open up the forum to discussion of just that one particular topic.

The Devs should never feel put on the spot by this as they have had a week to discuss. They should know by that point what they can and cannot say during said AMA.

It wouldn't even need to be held by a Dev on a Sunday. It could be that the "Community Team" is briefed with what has been discussed and one of you guys could answer questions to the best of your abilities.

All I am saying is that there are solutions to this. But at the moment it feels very much like we, the player base, don't matter at all to you guys.

Because it wasn't related to the Q&A. The Q&A was for the most recent chapter and the mid chapter patch.

Also as @LetsPlayTogether mentions, what are they meant to do? Stay quiet and harm their teams chances?

You are aware that the game comes with no in-game chat. Do you think maybe you were never meant to talk to other survivors?

The Devs really should have anticipated this to be honest. Now that it is up and running the only thing they can do now is try to balance it.

My suggestion is that if an SWF group is playing then the killer gets 2 extra perks.

When teams talk they are essentially giving themselves extra perks. They don't need to use things like kindred, object of obsession or other aura revealing perks because they have team mates telling them this information.

So my suggestion is that SWF gets its own lobby and if a killer chooses to play against SWF they get 2 extra perks.

    Full article on Ruin:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/117488/designer-notes-doctor-gatekeeper-hex-ruin

    Short version:

We took a close look at the perk to identify what makes it so frustrating to play against. Three key issues were identified:

    1. Its punishment of new players or those who can't hit Great Skill Checks. Newer players trying to help veterans with generator repairs tend to make the situation worse rather than better.
    2. The passive nature of the gameplay pressure it provides means that there is a huge amount of potential with very little effort or risk on behalf of The Killer.
    3. Its inconsistency due to the random nature of the appearance interval of skill checks.

    Are you being serious?

The totem placements are absolutely stupid so hex:ruin is normally cleansed within the first couple of minutes of the match anyway. So the fact that you are saying that it is more useful late game doesn't make sense. I think I will be lucky if my hex:ruin is still up end game in 1/30 matches. I had a game earlier where both of my totems were right next to gens. As in, you could be doing a gen, turn your head and see a totem. Maybe there should be a line of code that means that live totems are never placed directly next to gens. Just a thought.

There are perks that you will come across most survivors running. Almost every single game. Have you taken a look at any of those and if so what plans do you have to remedy this.

Have you guys come up with a plan regarding SWF balancing. As I am seeing it, you are making the game easier and easier and easier for survivors whislt taking away a killers best tools. Any thoughts on what could be done to limit the usefulness of having a full squad.

Maybe have a separate lobby for SWF teams. Make it so that survivors can join 2 queues? One where you can play with friends and earn limited bloodpoints and a solo lobby. The solo lobby would have be devoid of the plus symbols or friends list. Making it impossible to add friends.

Or maybe make it so that if an SWF group is detected then the killer automatically gets the corruption perk on top of the other perks they are running.

  • Before any devs come and delete this post. I have copied it to prove it does not insult you and it doesn't use profanity. It falls within the rules and guidelines you set for the forum. So, if this is removed, you better have a good reason for it.

First if you admitted to using the post as "bait" then that explains why it got taken down.

Secondly simply because a Dev(s) commented on your post does not mean "they are not busy". They could have just happened to have seen it while they were on. While I did not see the original post IF what you said is true, that their responses were "sarcastic" in nature and not constructive, then I would say it was highly unprofessional for them to have done so. Provided the original topic of the post was a legitimate question and not sarcastic itself. This is of course all speculation as I've no post/comments to read myself.

The community in this game is toxic AF and I'm sure many Devs (who are all human too) have bad days and must get tired of seeing all the negativity day in/day out. So I won't fault them too hard for the occasional slip up on the forums. While I do believe there are many legitimate complaints to be had in regards to DBD and how things are handled, far too many people make things into personal attacks or nonconstructive "bait" posts that serve no purpose to the forums but to push this toxicity further.

Ideally EVERYONE would take a step back and try to find a middle ground (this includes Devs) in resolving DBD together, without the needless bias/attacks/name calling, etc, etc.

Dude I totally agree with you. I get that they are only human, and everyone has bad days. The real issue though is that I was pointing out something that is a real problem. The Devs only comment or reply to posts they have made, news and updates.

I asked someone if they could find a Dev comment in the feedback section at all. The nearest one they could find was from a month prior.

I then suggested that they take one topic a week from the feedback and suggestions section of the forum. Maybe the one that has had the most views or replies.

Now I did get a lot of what you are seeing above, people coming on here just to tell me that I must be stupid or a big baby. I am merely trying to figure out a was in which the devs could be slightly more active in the forum community.

I can't speak for everyone but a lot of people I have spoken to did feel the same. Like the Devs only comment on their own posts whilst completely ignoring ligitimate concerns about the state of the game.

The three big ones being SWF balancing, connection issues and the ranking system.

I'm not saying that I want a solution to any of these but an open discussion would be nice.

What we have at the moment though doesn't even come close to good community engagement. As I said before they have the time to make snide comments in response to me calling them out but they don't have time to respond to some genuine questions.

All I asked was that they maybe think about having some kind of 'Once a week' get together to discuss with the community some of the issues that are on their minds. Once a month just to a topic that no one cares about is just not good enough. I don't think I am out of line believing this.

Let me save you a lot of trouble:

If you continue jerking yourself to the idea of suing BHVR you're going to lose.

    ...

Yes, even more than you lose to SWF lobbies like me and my friends, cuck.

You are obviously a troll. And a Donald Trump supporting troll at that.

I feel nothing but pity for you.

I suggest you keep studying then because A) You're not a lawyer, and B) Aside from a whole lot of ineffectual wanking I can't see anything to suggest you'd have a case:

    • There are no terms within the EULA that could be construed as applying to Voice Communications. Even their cheating clauses are limited to modifying the game directly, so you might want to get your facts together before wasting your (non-existent) money on a cromulent lawsuit. https://store.steampowered.com/eula/381210_eula_0
    • Even if there was a clause that could apply, BHVR are not required to enforce any of the rights that it has under the EULA. That is written in plain text. This is also why they include Section D: Waiver, which essentially says that they don't waive a right by not exercising it. Hence terms within the EULA cannot be construed as a consumer guarantee because BHVR openly declare they they're not required to enforce any of the terms, but they reserve the right to do so at their sole discretion.
    • Big problem for you: BHVR officially condone using voice communications in SWF due to their Official Discord server having dozens of voice channels specifically for SWF players to communicate with one another. https://discord.gg/nMZKbh

Have fun with your lawsuit; Let me know when you end up bankrupt so I can laugh at you.

That's why I said I am looking to build a case. You could be one hundred percent correct and this could be an exercise in futility. I see that there could be cause for concern based on the user agreement and Canadian contract law. I am not certain, and as I say I am only studying it. As I say my lecturer was interested in helping me look into. Even if it's only for practice and a learning experience.

Then again, if we look into this and see that there might be a rock solid case to be made then I might just go ahead and file suit. Not saying that I definitely will.

I appreciate the input though as it does serve as food for thought. Sorry if I offended you in some way, I mean the tone of your reply was a bit agitated. Never meant to piss anyone off. Just broaching the subject as I think it needs to be discussed.

I am pretty certain that in the section regarding modding, it mentions using third party programs to gain an advantage. I would argue that discord and SWF are under that bracket of being a third party program and being an unfair advantage.

Ill let you know how it goes after I look into it more.

P.S. I'm not stupid enough to pour money into a lawsuit I don't think I can win, which, once again, is why I said I was 'building' a case. I didn't say I had one.

Fair enough. I saw the get gud part and got angry. My apologies.

If theyre running circles around you, hit them. I had a game once, i think i was purple, guy was doing the same thing. Running curcles and dodging. I said forget the match and just practiced hitting that guy. I only hit him once. We talked a bit after. I wasnt angry, it was practice. Couple of weeks i killed that guy and realized it after, we talked a bigmt again. I had improved drastically. This is what i meant by forget the W, just practice.

Perks arent going to help you if people can literally run circles around you. Worry about that, the perks will come.

If youre on console turn public messages off, if youre on pc close the box. Do this until you hit r1, and forget the complaints from survivors. They dont make the rules. You should be putting traps near important gens and hooked survivors. One of the most carthetic things in this game is killing some dude and then him complaining about camping or tunneling and responding with "and? Ill do what i want to do"

Lol, fair enough. I will try just hitting those dudes who always elude me.

I do appreciate the advice and I guess just keep practicing. I know it is a me issue a lot of the time and I need the practice. I just lose patience when I get loss after loss. As I say I was at the end of a 2 week losing streak. I got my 4k today with my first ever game as hag. No perks or add-ons and I killed them all. So shocked but it has made me feel a little better.

Cheers again for the advice and I hope you continue to kick ass.
