  • "Second chance" perk is largely a rhetorical framing designed to disparage survivors, and by extension, BHVR for "coddling" survivors.

  • Oni is the problem, not legion. Giving him +15% speed, +20% turning speed, and the basekit flick buffs make him essentially uncounterable beyond camping a pallet and hoping your ping beats his.

This gets pointed out every 2v8 but BHVR can't/won't do anything about it.

  • I don't know if it's "invisible" or just "can no longer target generators in search mode", but it appears in 9.3.0 that you cannot send snug to generators except by targeting the ground and guessing the distance.

    Azarov's Resting place, PC

Edit: This is in 9.3.0, using ultimate houndmaster skin, and also noted this happens at any and every distance - no generators are targetable, anywhere.

he's barely any different than in normal games

Have you read the tool tip for his innate skill? +15% movement speed, +20% turning rate (plus other buffs)

  • What do you mean, on 4 wall tiles he can demon dash down one lane, then turn down the next.

ranked mode has never fixed this behavior in any game. it just makes the game more competitive and they go to "casual" mode to stomp on people after ranked mode hurt their ego. The only thing adding a ranked mode would do is make this well and truely a competitive e-sports type of game. causing a further influx of "I have to be the best" players, influx of cheaters to show off their rank, and the mass exodus of "I just wanna have fun" players.

The issue isn't the game or lack of ranked mode. Its the hyper-competitive mindset and the absolute desperation for dopamine and external validation of being really really good at a video game. The type of kids who turn mario party into a tactical strategic game where not having the most stars means theyre a failure to their entire bloodline. Like no…you can have competition and stil be casual and fun. Comp kids are generally incapable of it and mask their anger through disingenuous "gg" at the end of a match.

I see two pathways here. The ones who sweat so hard and play so toxic that noone else is allowed to have should go to therapy and take to heart the "winning isnt everything" philosophy. Or the devs need to figure out the identity of DBD. Do they want this to be yet another competitive game with an insanely toxic community like valorant, marvel rivals, LoL, etc. Or Do they want this to be a game only focused on mutual fun and enjoyment.

Back when i first started DBD in 2017, I played to win and often went too hard on the survivors. It only ever left the end game chat with hate. I got bored of that because its been almost a decade and I grew up. Now I play, yes to win, but also with humor and personality. The vast majority of survivors are goobers and will joke around too if you let them. Heck I was doing scratched mirror Myers on a 4 man swf streamer. I was DOMINATING them. But i also played with personality and humor where the end game chat was hilarious and wholesome. One of the streamers was laughing so hard at the match they were weazing. This is what DBD has the potential to be. Funny and Positive but also PVP. Not this "Us vs Them"..""show me your stats or your opinion is invalid"…"Im not responsible for your fun", crap that this game has become.

I realize this comes off and aggressive and rude. Sorry for that. But i have seen too many games lose its spark and joyful community after the competitive e-sports community claims it as theirs.

Very much this. The people who slug and tunnel do so because they aren't able to get kills playing any other way.

  • Killers are leaving the bots alive because keeping them alive prevents the hatches from spawning. Once you are down to 1-2 survivors and 1-2 bots, you can then use the bots to find hiding survivors. You can injure the bot and then follow it from a distance, the bot will run to a survivor for heals. It's basically a free whispers perk.

  • Same, playing Nemesis on nostromo map, PC, doing haunted by daylight mode, about halfway through I realized there were no scratch marks anymore. I thought this might be perk related but although an Alan Wake had residual manifest/champion of light, I don't think that gets rid of scratch marks, and there were no scratch marks for anyone for the entire rest of the match (another 5-10 mins). Blood spots still appeared. This was true in both main map and in void submap.

  • Just noticing that in all posted screenshots people are holding flashlights.

  • Same, PC/Steam, playing as Lara Croft vs Lich on Forsaken Boneyard.

I was holding an item (purple flashlight) and had boots/gloves. I also noted Lich had both No Way Out and Remember Me (two gate perks) but based on other reports this seems common enough that probably doesn't matter.

    20240722230812_1.jpg
  • Same, happening as of June 24, legion (susie) on eyrie of crows.

    20240624185013_1.jpg
  • The disabling after a kill is more of an anti-tunneling fix. It's up to you if you want it to last for up to 9 hooks.

  • I had to quit and restart to get them to show up. For the record, I bought Hunk, Sheva, and Carlos skins.

  • Same, I did it at first using the brown +evil gained addon and thought that might have been the cause but tried again with no addons and same result, 0/4 despite getting at least 4 level ups of EW per match.

  • I've been trying for about 8 hours on this challenge and I give up. I tried for about 3 hours interpreting it as within 5 seconds after being in a chase, and for about 5 hours interpreting it as within 5 seconds of a chase starting.

I know some other tome challenges are bugged right now (the shout ones) so I'm calling the past 8 hours a loss and chalking it up to typical BHVR buggery.

BHVR, if/when you decide to fix your game, please fix the ambiguous wording of this challenge to indicate whether "within 5 seconds of being in a chase" means 5 seconds after it starts or 5 seconds after it ends.

  • Same problem, only on Tome 3 Level 1 terrified. Multiple attempts, nothing works, not doctor, not downing, not hooking; challenge is bugged.

  • This should be submitted as a bug, I'm on Tome 3 level 1 Terrified and having the same problem. Downing, hooking, using doctor abilities, nothing works.

There's already a bug report here, I'd suggest you add any additional information.

Detective Tapp, Kate Denson and Quentin Smith all have their charms mixed up.

That makes sense, they're all next to each other, someone probably messed up the Guids.

  • So I had the opportunity again to test this out, where my hook progress was about to transition from first hook state to second hook state, and I initiated a self-unhook which ended up being successful. This time, it did not levy the cost of a failed unhooking and I escaped with only one hook tallied.

So, whichever is the correct way, one of these two situations was a bug.

This was prior to today's patch btw.

Remember, not everybody follows social media and news about patches. Some may have been unavailable to play the game.

It would have been much better for them to make the transfer fair, rather than justifying a poor transfer with "hey they posted about it".

I have played this game for many years now, and I have over 1500 hours of playtime. I never thought I would have to stress-grind 10 additional levels before a patch or I'd be set back 110 levels... I didn't find out about this until a friend asked if I wanted to come check out the new patch.

I 100% agree, I made the same points when I warned about this weeks ago. When I said "we could see this coming from weeks away", I'm referring to the unfolding disaster and community anger, not the arcane steps needed to forestall item and progress loss.

  • We could see this coming from weeks away. When they increased the bonus prestige levels for old prestige levels and didn't adjust the prestige levels awarded for number of perks unlocked, they set the community up for strife and discord

  • Yeah I was trying to convince some friends who've barely played that they should come back, but they asked exactly how the new system was better for them and I really couldn't explain it.

You might possibly earn 40,000 bp/match instead of 32,000, a 25% increase, but then you still have to do the same amount of levelling, if not more, you'll just not be getting any perks that way (on the plus side you'll get sick of addons and offerings).

So many people yelled at the top of their lungs that this update only helped the obsessives and did nothing good for new or casual players, but BHVR ignored this.

At least VHS launched yesterday, so there's that.

  • "Later this month" is vague enough that it could mean any day after the 15th.

Then wait at the exit gate that the killers not at, no need to rub in the salt on the wound

Why move to another gate and risk getting killed? The best choice is to wait at the gate you are already at. This is one of those things where you have to not take it personally, because it isn't always about you.

Sometimes they're doing it to get WGLF stacks.

Sometimes they're doing it to give you more BP.

    Sometimes they're taunting you.

Also, sometimes they're doing it because they are on a challenge that requires them to only escape after x number of survivors have escaped.

  • Feng with long black hair, day off wrap sweater, washed denim shorts and boots. The sweater is long enough to cover the jean shorts from behind, and the muddy black stockings are excellent camo.

Meg with teen angst hair, morra what? jacket, and fame maker dress. Meg's leather hoodie jacket has the same jacket model but has bands of white and yellow at the top and bottom that can give you away.

In general, dark hair, dark clothes that cover as much of the arms and legs, and skirts (which conceal geometry). Avoid any bright (especially fluorescent) clothing & accessories.

Obviously if you get tower of crows, this becomes a liability instead of an asset, but you can only predict that if you are using an offering.

I love the change, I can get maxed out quick. Prove Thyself op

Prove thyself is pretty much mandatory for maxing objective score in a competent group (the alternative is using a map to gain mapping points). Having a perk be mandatory is poor design.

This spreadsheet is neat. But a few questions:

    1. I have 120 perk tiers on Claudette. Why does it say she would be prestige 1? Shouldn't it be prestige 2?

    2. Why does is say none for Claudette with 120 perk tiers, but "spend bp" for Dwight with 121?

Good catch on the greater than /equal to error, please forgive me, it should be fixed now.

The rationale behind the recommendations are that

@119 perk points you lose 49 perk points worth of potential progress, so you can spend 28k BP to convert to another prestige level

@120 perk points you are at a break even point so no action is required

@121 perk points you lose 1 perk point worth of potential progress so you can spend 1.35 MM BP to convert to another prestige level.

The decision of whether to spend the BP is left to the user based on their own judgment and priorities.

  • Calculator Character,Perks,Perk points,Result,Worth improving?,Current posted conversion,Counting Help Survivors,Tier 3,Tier 2,Tier 1,Total,Prestige,PP to next,Approx BP,Action,Prestige,Min PP,Max PP,Killer Max,Tab,Total Perks,Killer Max Dwight,0,0,0,0,0,70,1,925,000,Prestige,1,70,119,1,15 Meg,0...

I've created a spreadsheet to help people with the decision on whether to prestige or not. This tool will calculate the number of prestige points you have per character and let you know how close you are to the next prestige level and about how much it will cost in BP. Note it is based on characters being level 50 and no current prestige levels.

To use the tool, simply count how many perks of each tier you have on the character and fill them in the listed columns.

As you can see in the example, Twins will be converted to Prestige 1 but are only 1 perk away from having enough perk points to be made Prestige 2. Blight, on the other hand, would be Prestige 0, but is only two perk points away from being converted to Prestige 1. So the cheapest option is to prestige now, but I might want to go ahead and spend the 55k BP if I wanted to keep his addons and offerings.

One thing to note is that the average character who just had hit 50 had only 58-59 perk points. Since BHVR wont do anything until you have at least 70 perk points, the best option for fresh 50's seems to be to prestige before the patch hits.

Least you did it. I didn’t like the “reward” and so didn’t bother to prestige the killers and survivors I don’t play often. I now won’t have access to my computer before the update goes live to log in a click everyone over to prestige 1.

This is the very problem I am trying to point out to BHVR in this thread:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/334188/clarification-needed-asap-to-avoid-disaster#latest

  • When I posted about removing BP bonus from BBQ & WGLF, I suggested moving the bonus BP to devotion levels.

They could easily scale it to ensure it was rewarding, eg.

    Devotion 1: +25%

    2: +25%

    3: +20%

    4: +15%

    5: +15%

So at Dev 5 it would be like always having 4 stacks of BBQ/WGLF

After that they could just add +1% per devotion level so it doesn't get too powerful.

EDIT: Full disclosure, I'm at Dev 6 with ~1750 hrs played, but I'd be fine if newer players got back to 100% bonus BP faster.

if you start the unhook yourself action and it hits struggle phase during the action, your hook phase will change no matter if you unhook yourself or not

It would not have hit struggle phase based on time alone.

  • @Tb2k said:

no, this is not a bug. in general getting off the hook you get put into the next unhook state, getting off the hook via a successful unhook is no different.

unless i'm reading this wrong, this is a base game mechanic. maybe you mean it has even though you get unhooked via self unhook it triggers the 2nd state and keeps you on the hook?

No, what I meant, was, if anyone other than myself would have taken me off the hook, I would have had 1 hook tally mark. Because I did the self unhook, I had two hook tally marks, because the hook meter cost of a failed self unhook was subtracted even though it was a success.

  • Get rid of green keys in chests, or make them have one usable addon at a minimum.

  • @BearMerchant said:

I think they should've made the bloodpoint bonuses a base part of the game. It would encourage healthier playstyles and still help out newer players — because while a 75% reduction to the grind is great, there's still a flat 100% nerf to actual BP gain.

Agreed. I'm glad I won't feel like I only have 3 perks to choose because BBQ and WGLF are effectively mandatory, but I wish they would just permanently double the bp/halve the cost of items in the web.

  • I'd imagine I made this post too late for it to have influenced the changes posted today, but thanks all the same!

  • I noticed this also, on ormond map. I thought it was lightning that I hadn't noticed before because it went from pitch black to a flash of white then back to black. But this explanation makes more sense.
