Because if they don't, they get accused of not being transparant enough.
As Peanits once stated on this very matter, they just can't win.
I do think they could "win" and be both transparent and communicative by discarding the AMA on reddit format and just do a more regular Development blog-type thing instead.
If the majority of questions they pick to answer from an AMA will get a response like "soon", "in the future" etc. while staying very vague, it is very unsatisfying for the community and I don't know what Bhvr thinks they are gaining from this. I don't think the questions asked are to blame here because I saw plenty of questions that were quite specific that weren't answered at all.
Not a lot of people would praise them for their great transparency on the recent AMA, instead the community gets frustrated or loses more faith in the Devs. This could be mitigated.
I wasn't around for the frequent developer videos that I've read about here but exactly this type of format should be brought back with the same frequency as the AMAs. Bhvr could pick what they want to discuss, get some inspiration from social media or the forums about popular topics and would hopefully be able to share more specific details.
-
The AMA was extremely disappointing, especially when you think about them talking about how they want to be more transparent towards the community. Why not pick questions beforehand and give the team time at least some time to craft an answer properly?
Some responses gave me pause: "We will pass the feedback on" - So, you are not already aware?
Q&A sessions can definitely be good and increase the trust/faith into the dev team but this definitely wasn't one of those.
-
I also experienced this today, the player disconnected when they were about to be put on their second hook and the bot just didn't hit any skill checks and died soon after. What is the point of replacing the player with a bot if they just give up on hook?

Even if thats true i dont think BHVR would see it the same way. They'd see "blight has most votes for nerfs? ok 3 rush tokens..." and so on.
Luckily they gave an opportunity to explain "how" the killer should be nerfed (e.g. add-on nerf) in the question after that so hopefully they would also take that into account since they put it in the survey after all.

Can confirm, PC Steam

It also covers other yellow auras like Blast Mine.

Regarding the localization to Arabic it might just be a matter of costs. If BHVR does all translations and QA in-house they might not have an Arabic linguist and editor and they would have to hire them permanently since all new content would have to be translated as well. If they don't do it in-house the company that handles their localization might not have Arabic translators either and they would have to find a whole new partner only to be able to include this language.
Additionally, it could also pose an issue for special characters that might just not be able to be displayed. Sometimes when usernames contain certain characters they only display as squares or question marks in-game so they might not be currently supported. Again, they would have to spend money and resources to make that possible and they probably decided that it's not worth it for the company.

I don't know is agree. I agree that what you said are parts of game sense, but it's all relative to your current match, and telling someone to look out for that isn't game sense building.
Like let's take an example - end game face camping so a killer tries to secure a kill. There's multiple pathways to forming a decision, right? If you're attempting to save alone and you're fine with a hook trade, does that killer have stbfl? It's almost so subtle during normal gameplay for people unfamiliar with it or timings.
"oh if the killer has 8 stacks it's near impossible because they will recover in X amount of time quicker" but only if you're not the obsession where they lose stacks is so loaded, and if you have dead hard active be sure to use it on time, and watch out for the bait. What's this mean to 300 hour joe schmoe who didn't even notice stbfl in chase. Game sense in general is something you build up over time, and too complicated to realistically ever teach someone because they need to experience something themselves to actually put into practice.
The students obviously would have to learn other parts of the game themselves such as recognising perks and yes, that will come over time, no question, and the game sense itself will also become better over time, especially if there is some sort of understanding or foundation in the first place.
Teaching the decision making process for scenarios might not cover every possibility but it will still improve the game sense massively when starting from zero.
-
@KingFieldShipper said:
I don't know if it's realistically something you can ever "teach". You can't teach game sense, which people, including your teammates often lack, which is THE most important thing in the game.
I think it is definitely something that can be taught, for example by pointing out the things they should pay attention to and explaining the thought processes that go into the decision making of what to do next.

I would love to see a tangible reward for getting a "thumbs up" from the other side. To reinforce this it should also be tied to a few achievement/trophies so that people actually become more aware of it, both for giving and receiving the endorsements. I don't mind what the reward is but it would be nice to just see a bit more positivity all around.
-
I also dislike map offerings by both sides and wish they would be removed. With the new map repeat prevention system there should not be any reason for them to still exist in the first place. And the common excuse "I only used the map offering because I just got map X 5 times in a row" is not valid anymore.
@gnehehe said:
Devs should just give us green ward back if it was not used to explicitly block a map offering during loading ; so more opportunities to use them
I really like this idea and it would be an acceptable alternative if Bhvr doesn't want to get rid of map offerings altogether.

My two takeaways from the Developer Update blog regarding the limited time cosmetics:
"As the game has grown, hundreds of outfits have been added to the store. Where one outfit used to be a major addition, these days it is just one of many to choose from. By vaulting these holiday themed cosmetics, we hope to simplify the store and make these seasonal offerings more meaningful when they return each year. "I'm sorry but this is just a sad excuse. Let's assume this was actually true - some characters barely have five outfits, how dumb does BHVR think their players are that they can't navigate a shop interface? If they really think the shop needs to be 'simplified', introduce categories and more filter options. The last thing that would come to mind if this was the actual motivation would be to remove the items from the store for a year.
"When the event period ends, these outfits will be vaulted (removed from the store) until they return the following year. The next time they return, they will be available with both Auric Cells and Iridescent Shards (excluding licensed characters)."At least something positive that the outfits will be also available to buy with shards from the second time they come around.
-
I use Distortion regularly when playing in a 4-man team. It's great to call out the killer's perks for the rest of the team and figure out their full build to avoid surprises. I am also not the best runner so it helps to play to everyone's strengths/avoid weaknesses.

I was a level 100 prestige on psn. I only played Feng because she was by far my favorite. I switched to PC a week ago and this might be a waste of my time because I doubt I'll even download dbd again. As a survivor main the game is just depressing anymore and all of my friends have quit because of it. The idea of starting over with nothing in the current state dbd is in actually makes it sound horrifying, just not in the fun horror way. But anyways, every single ttv I came across always mentioned how I had no life to be that high of a prestige and how I was a tryhard. Before the match even started. There are ALOT of ttvs on dbd. I would get hate messages after games simply over prestige as well. I do not ever play toxic. I would get tunneled immediately and hit on hook for literally no reason...over and over and over. Theres only so many times you can be degraded every match but also be helpless to stop it and still want to play the game. The killers would join our lobby, see a high prestige and leave over and over until we finally got one brave killer who stayed, and more often than not they had brought a black ward and were extremely toxic. This happened EVERY game. So the skill based matchmaking becomes useless. There is literally no use for prestige. It only encourages lobby shopping and bullying. People interpret high prestige as sweaty players. Why would you add a feature that adds a target on the back of those who actually play this insufferable game? I know its not just me either because twitch streamers and tik tok creators talk about how they have to hide theirs as well by playing different characters than the ones they love. Trust me, there's no need to add any more reasons to ditch this game right now. I'd add a hide prestige feature.
From the start I thought displaying prestige in the lobby was a mistake and I hope highlighting this issue again will make Bhvr notice the issues it can cause. I have noticed people with high prestige being targeted and tunneled as well as people with low prestige being singled out for being the perceived weakest link. On top of that the lobby dodging you mentioned. And no matter if it is a true representation of the player's skill in those cases, there clearly seems to be a psychological effect attached to the prestige level either way.
I think the suggestion of making the display of your own prestige level optional in the lobby and only show it in the post-match screen is great and wouldn't hurt anyone.

I'm not saying anyone shouldn't leave any type of review they want, I respect others' opinions very much. They just shouldn't make it while attacking forum moderators, who more than likely has no say in when the cosmetics leave at a particular time, they are just the announcers. That's what truly bothers me. I am also voicing my opinion how it may be a good marketing tactic for them that leaves customers wanting to come back eventually for that cosmetic. "I have to come back next year because I really want that outfit!", that's what the developers in charge of these decisions want people to think. They probably continue to use that 'scummy tactic' because it works. I have no statistics to prove this, this is just my thought. Do I think they're really worth waiting a whole year for? No. Not unless outfits were given a slight buff to the character you're playing instead of purely just cosmetic. Which would never happen because that really is unfair. I just wish people were nicer when asking for changes instead of being so aggressive and immediately threatening to give the game a bad review over something so minor.
Also, what is an example of dishonest messaging? They surely did give a message how they would be back next year and a time frame on which the limited time cosmetics would be available. (I'm not being rude, I'm genuinely curious if they did deceive us and I didn't notice.)
(For some reason my post was deleted so I am trying again)
Regarding the dishonest messaging, I am referring to this tweet from September 2022:
https://twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1569702463309074434Starting today, we’ll begin adding Shard prices to outfits previously only available with Auric Cells. This will be done in batches of a few characters at a time, starting with the original Survivors: Dwight, Claudette, Jake, and Meg. (2/4)
Going forward, new non-licensed outfits will release with their usual Auric Cell price, receiving an Iridescent Shard option 4 weeks following their debut. (3/4)
If you have Iridescent Shards burning a hole in your pocket, we hope you’ll find no shortage of outfits to spend them on! (4/4)

My point still stands though about my comment, and it's my opinion. I'm a bit disappointed that's the point that people noticed and no one gave me a good argument about my important points... such as, no needing to bash the forum moderators so harshly about simple... mediocre cosmetics that gives no one any stat boosts or possibly not complaining that the same tactic is used in other games but this is the game that is being threatened with negative reviews and horrendous treatment of the moderators. Pity. Says quite a bit about who these game developers are trying to keep satisfied. (Of course they will never be satisfied with anything...) If it is a cosmetic that drives people over the edge to downvote this game... then I have no idea what to say.
1) I completely agree - nobody should attack forum moderators or anyone else for that matter.
2) Personally I don't play any other games where this specific tactic is used so there's nothing to complain about. Also, this is the DbD forum, so I am not sure what other games have to do with it necessarily.
That said, I used to play a game that had purchasable cosmetics and limited-time cosmetics from the start but that company never promised players anything else and then went back on it or added exemptions and loop-holes so they didn't have to stand by what they said. If a company starts with scummy tactics, that's one thing - you can choose if you want to support that or not. But if a company is descending into scummy tactics later on, of course people who love their game are going to give feedback on it because it feels like a betrayal of their good faith.
3) People can choose what type of review they want to leave and what's important to them. I would say the first step is to voice your dissatisfaction on the forum or social media. If there's enough backlash they might reconsider as they do take community feedback on board from time to time. If they stick by this decision, then they know what they are doing and that a lot of people will be pissed off and they will have to deal with the consequences.
I think for a lot of people the issue is not the cosmetics themselves (although limited-time stuff is annoying in itself) but the tactic of preying on FOMO and dishonest messaging towards the community. So it's more a matter of principle and I do think that's something worth speaking up for.
-
I just wanted to add my voice to the ones of other disappointed players. I am extremely disappointed, especially by the act of retroactively removing cosmetics from the store that were previously available for shards. The messaging comes across as dishonest - I am referring to the announcement that ALL non-licensed outfits would become available for shards after 4 weeks and then adding countless exemptions and loop-holes.
-
I'm having the same issue on the survivor side where the first challenge of the Halloween Rift page 2 just stopped counting the progress after 1 match. So it could just be altogether bugged.
-
I would love to play Haddie more but her base cosmetic does not look good at all. The prime cosmetic plus the anniversary event tome cosmetics are cute but months have gone by without any new cosmetics for her and it's very disappointing.
I had high hopes that she would get some love for the Halloween event since her character is connected to spirits and such through the lore, which would really fit the spooky season but nothing...
-
According to the patch notes from the recent PTB it depends when the characters reached 50/P1/P2:
"Inclusion of Stage 2 of our Prestige Catch-Up. Characters which were level 50 and prestige 0, 1, or 2 as of the 6.1.0 release will receive 2 bonus prestige levels, as if they had been prestiged."
-
I am doing the exact same. I check in the morning, switch one and then most of the time still have 3 killer dailys left and log out....
-
Yes, I just checked and you are right. I also got the extra prestige levels already today.
I think it only counted for the characters who were 50/0/1/2 before 6.1.0 came out. So I think any prestiges done now wouldn't have counted anyways.
"Inclusion of Stage 2 of our Prestige Catch-Up. Characters which were level 50 and prestige 0, 1, or 2 as of the 6.1.0 release will receive 2 bonus prestige levels, as if they had been prestiged."
-
Yes it still bugged. PC/Steam
-
I think it would be amazing if the daily rituals had a flip-side, one survivor and one killer. It would definitely encourage me to play more.
Currently, I log in in the morning before work where there's no point to queue for killer since the queue times are crazy long at that time (understandably). So if I don't get a survivor ritual I just don't play, especially in between rifts.
By implementing a flip-side so the overall number of available rituals stays the same, it wouldn't impact the "BP economy" that Bhvr references sometimes but would encourage to play more games.
-
Yes, I had the same issue.
-
Especially when someone only has limited time to play per day it would be nice to keep the bloodweb-level-up time to a minimum.
20 minutes might not seem a lot to some people but for others it's a big chunk of their game time.
For the people who enjoy the bloodweb levelling, adding an optional auto-buy feature would not hamper your boundless fun.
-
There was a bug reported that the incentive bonus doesn't seem to apply when Anonymous Mode is enabled. Maybe it has something to do with that?
-
I was really looking forward to it and planned on buying it on release but after seeing the nerfs/buffs of the developer update I think I will at least wait a while or not buy it at all.
-
It didn't sit right with me how the threads were merged. I will give the benefit of the doubt in that it was well-intentioned but then it could have been done a bit better as Seanzu said.
It definitely didn't sit right with me that the prime skin was an old rift skin, not even recoloured and without any compensation for people who already own it.
I also do hope that the community will not just forget this topic. I saw over 700 comments on that twitter post by Bhvr just shortly after the skin released and I saw a few negative comments on the prime gaming twitter post as well. Which is good. This laziness towards the players should not just be swept under the rug but highlighted as the embarrassment it is.

I think they're just tired of giving away free, unique cosmetics and want to see how little they can get away with. Expect 50k BP for September's Amazon Prime reward.
I completely agree. Hopefully more people will voice their disappointment both on the forum, the Dbd twitter and the Amazon Prime twitter. I'm not sure if it will do much but it is better than staying silent and just putting up with stuff like this.
-
I think a lot of people will do that because otherwise it is absolutely useless and maybe someone doesn't have it yet.
I am really disappointed and hopefully more people will open threads or comment on twitter and everywhere else to voice their frustration, because this is just so frigging lazy and they will just get away with it. I can't get over the fact that it's not even a recolor, just the exact same outfit from the rift!
At least give the people shards equivalent to another outfit so people who already own the cosmetic and redeem the code actually get a prime reward too.
-
I was really looking forward to the new reward... what a disappointment. How lazy.
-
I got 50k BP on Day 1 and the 5 Rift Fragments on Day 3 but nothing on Day 2...
-
I also didn't get any reward yesterday. I got 50k BP on the first day and the rift fragments today I assume since I got a notification that I unlocked a new rift tier when I logged in, so the 50k BP that were supposed to be given yesterday are definitely missing.

FYI people were ASKING for BP incentives. This is what the community wanted. You can't blame BHVR for a bandaid fix when you all asked for it.
I don't think people were asking for the BP bonus to be removed from BBQ/WGLF at the same time.
I think it's understandable that people want short queue times on whatever role they are playing and if the MMI will provide that - great. They are a good thing, but not if the BP grind without them is unbearable.

They threw the rift challenges that you have to throw games for and dailies that are weighted to be disproportionately killer oriented and decided that was enough for universal extra gains. It feels greedy to ask for more until you feel how awful gains feel now, like you mentioned. Now i just don't feel like playing at all unless there's an event.
I completely agree. Most players log in during the anniversary event when the BP bonus is through the roof because of cakes/flans and the BPs per match feel amazing. Do we get tired of bonus BP? NO! People were even begging for the event to be extended.
Also, the reason why BBQ lost its BP bonus was due to its high pick-rate because of the BP bonus. People love gaining BP, plain and simple. Depriving players of BP for some made up reason is not giving them more incentives to play, it's the opposite.
-
In my opinion implementing this feature is way more important than for example the planned Mori rework. SoloQ has been suffering for a long time and now would be a great time to give them more tools for overall balanced gameplay.
-
Not so long ago they sent out a player satisfaction survey with a lot of questions regarding what the players want. I am pretty sure the result overall was "BP/currencies and cool cosmetics", it should be pretty obvious what would motivate players to log-in and play the game.
The BP gain feels so bad currently and the matchmaking incentives apparently are only really there to fix queue times and have nothing to do with the grind according to a post here on the forums. They might be available, they might not, they might be only a 25% bonus.
So what is going to be done to make the game feel more rewarding? Are the amount of BP we get for score events going to be looked at so we can actually get to the 40k max BP per match? They haven't really mentioned it anywhere as far as I know. Are we going to get anything that will give us a bonus to BP at all apart from offerings? Probably not, because of the "BP economy"... it's absolutely ridiculous.
Double BP weekends should be a thing or a Bloodhunt for a week once per month, a daily log-in bonus calendar, just... something. This would be such an easy way to show that the devs actually care about player satisfaction.
-
It is extremely disappointing that the matchmaking incentives are not going to be enabled with the next patch. It is the feature that everyone universally could agree on and now we even have to wait until the next chapter which is scheduled to release in September...
Ok, fair enough if there are technical issues, but at least please give the players some sort of bloodpoint bonus... log-in rewards, a blood hunt, BP codes - just something to make the grind more bearable. Or something to compensate for a feature that was announced, immediately disabled and is not going to be fixed for another month or so.
I know it was said previously that the matchmaking incentives are not primarily there for the BP but to fix queue times, but surely they can see how everyone is longing for more BP.
-
People on both sides decided to spend 100s if not 1000s of hours in this game, no matter which role, and they enjoyed themselves (If people say that they were miserable pre-update then I don't get why you would still play).
Now the game balance has changed drastically and as a survivor you have to play very efficiently if you want to escape and there is not much time to "mess around". On top of that the measly BP you earn per match get you nowhere with the new progression system. It is a big change from casual to competitive and I think it is very understandable that people are not happy. It is quite a shock to the system and I can't imagine how people feel who come back to this game and didn't follow the forums or social media etc.
I do not condone DCs and if people are not having a good time currently I would just suggest to play something else until some of the issues are addressed instead of making your team mates miserable as well.
For me, it would really be a shame if the game was left in this state. So for the moment I am just waiting and hoping and not playing Dbd.

Sure but what if one role has long queue all day long?
I used to play survivor in the morning and killer after work, best queue times for both
That's exactly what I used to do and I really enjoyed the variety of playing both killer and survivor.
For some people it might be absolutely fine to wait in a 5-10 minute queue but for me as a working adult with limited game time it doesn't seem worth it to try to queue for killer anymore and just playing survivor just gets boring after a while. So I just switched to playing something else in the evenings now.
Hopefully the queue times will balance out once the matchmaking incentives are back. I know not everyone will be swayed to switch sides because of a BP bonus but some will.

I agree with you to a point. The positives of the progression rework have unfortunately been overshadowed by the prestige cost (which was not even there during the game update showcase on twitch) and the loss of any sort of bonus BP.
Since they increased the maximum BP you can earn per match, it seems to me that they at least wanted this to somehow offset these things. Without an update to the amount of BP earned from score events though it does not change anything for the average player who is not farming and seems like an oversight from the devs (Yes, I want to give the benefit of the doubt here.) and should be pointed out more until they fix it.
-
I think this topic should be talked about much more.
When discussing the grind and how BP gains don't feel good at the moment - especially for soloQ survivors - people often mention that you can now earn a maximum of 40.000 BP per match.
At least in my experience as mostly soloQ survivor I don't even come close to that cap and looking at my team mates' scores on the post game screen it is the same story. On the average winning game scores are usually somewhere in the 20ks, bad matches can be as low as 5k. So the new 40k cap does basically nothing to improve the grind.
On killer side and maybe SWF survivor the scores usually look better but it also depends on which killer was used for example.
So please, Bhvr, look at the score events for all roles and also specific killers and adjust them appropriately. It would really help so much to feel playing a match much more worth it again.
-

Oh no. You’ll have to wait longer for your easy game of free bloodpoints. Boo f Hoo.
I don't think that's the whole reason why people are frustrated with the longer killer queue times.
First of all, people who were killer mains before the update will probably still like to play their usual role and are suffering from extra queue times. Not everyone likes to play survivor.
I personally liked to play Survivor in the day time and Killer in the evening time because I enjoy both roles and like the variety it brings. On top of that there are daily rituals and archive challenges that are killer-only.
Also, Bhvr clearly does not want long queue times for their players, otherwise the matchmaking incentives wouldn't have been killswitched due to long queue times that occured as a result.
