As someone who plays on both PC and mobile regularly, could you explain how you see mobile as being more full-featured? It's missing a decent chunk of the killer roster, Coldwind's been disabled for something like six or more months (think it's coming back with the next patch), many more maps aren't available. The only chat feature is pre-selected responses such as "GG". The only thing I can think that it has over the base game is showing all survivor's each other's loadouts.

Mostly the fact that you can play with bots, something that's sorely lacking the the PC version. I haven't played the mobile version too much, but it was fantastic to be able to try out a killer with bots. I'd take bots over any of the missing feature you mentioned any day.

  • I just don't think it's a matter of motivation. Looking at BHVR's history of games makes me think DBD was just a fluke. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behaviour_Interactive

Looking at the recent non-mobile games, we have Deathgarden (which was shut down after only a year) and Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade (also shut down). The vast majority of their games are licensed tie-ins and I think licenses are basically keeping DBD on life support right now. BHVR also clearly feels much more at home on mobile than on PC. This is pretty well evidenced by the fact that the DBD mobile game is already more full-featured than the PC version.

not a coincidence at all, I locked it when my shift finished yesterday as I was the only one around to deal with the comments on it.

Fair enough, sorry for jumping to conclusions. Please make sure the devs take note of the responses though. I really want to see this game improve to the point where people would be happy to vote for it. The devs need to know the game is not in that state right now.

She literally said that's what they do to all the announcement threads.

    Selective hearing, much?

Can't check right now if they actually do, but I full-on believe Mandee offhand--I sincerely doubt she'd lie about something that disprovable.

The previous news post had the comments open for days. This one had the comments open for an hour. So yes, I have selective hearing when it comes to misleading information because I choose to ignore it. The comments in all the news posts I checked have been open for at least a few hours, this stands out as an anomaly and I'm willing to bet that isn't a coincidence.

  • @Mandy said:

I'm the one that actually locked the thread - as we lock all announcement threads. Plus deleted a lot of abusive comments...it's not negativity that we avoid, it's the insults, abuse and death threats.

So rather than continuing to delete comments, you just completely stop all discussion? That seems like a really lazy solution. Delete the death threats and abusive comments, sure, but there's no reason to lock the thread other than to avoid the negative PR.

Did you at least bring the valid criticism to the attention of the devs?

  • @jesterkind said:

Were they all legitimate complaints pointing out extant bugs, or were they people making hostile, aggressive comments about how the game is trash and the devs are incompetent?

The one to one you're trying to draw doesn't really exist, this community has a bad habit of behaving in a manner that would warrant barring them from commenting even when they're mad about something that is a problem.

They were mostly complaints about the bugs and the fact that BHVR doesn't listen to its playerbase, both valid points. A lot of the comments just said no. Very few of the comments were actually hostile or aggressive, although I won't deny there are a couple of those in there as well. And unsurprisingly, there were almost no positive responses.

  • Cool, I wonder what the NFT will look like.

  • Did Atari also blatantly lie to their community about their involvement in NFTs?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

As a killer player, I feel like the hatch change is a tad bit overkill? Still, really good changes across the board.

I like how much they nerfed the escaping aspect of the key, but they should probably buff it in other ways to even things out. I like keys being on the same level as moris (basically just a cosmetically different way to kill / escape), but since keys are an item and moris are only an offering, keys should probably get a little something to keep them relevant.

  • @Salty_Pearl said:

Oh boy, that's a lot of addon passes. I can't wait for those killers to have the useless *insert disadvantage for double bloodpoints* addons.

Spirit nerf is interesting...they say within 24 meters but isn't that the entire range of her terror radius? Why wouldn't they just say "in her terror radius" then? I'm fine with Survivors hearing when she's phasing but there should be no directional sound, that kinda ruins the whole mind game aspect of her.

Also, can't wait for Pig to get nerfed!

They probably don't want it to be affected by things that change a killer's terror radius.

  • So a survivor hitting a pallet stun and then holding w beats a killer eating a pallet and then also just holding w?

Sure, the survivor play isn't some high level MLG stuff, but you're also assuming the killer has no power or brain, of course they're going to have a rough time.

  • The latest chapter was kind of the last straw for me. We've had broken chapter after broken chapter, the anniversary event's "extra effort" was non-existent and the game is now leaking licensed content with BHVR refusing to comment on it. I feel like BHVR is trying to attract new players with shiny content without caring about the existing playerbase. If the bugs aren't bad enough to stop someone from buying the game and a few DLCs, why fix them?

I keep coming back here because I want the game to improve, but I have a bad feeling that they'll just keep churning out DLC until the game is unprofitable and then shut down the servers, rather than dealing with the bugs. I really hope I'm proven wrong.

Hard to claim BHVR is lying if they would be more open, though. If they had simply stated they were sorting out a licensing issue then the fake tweet would have been impossible. Yes, they would have more egg on their face - but they should - it was a screwup.

Yup, by refusing to say anything, they're encouraging people to wildly speculate on the reason. And if they're not saying because of a contract, well, they signed the contract knowing this could happen. I'm also pretty skeptical that they HAD to remove them so close to the release of the DLC and that the contract has a clause saying they can't mention whether this change is temporary or permanent.

This all depends on when they figure out what they can do, so they dont break a promise or something.

    We need to Chillax.

They haven't even said what the situation is yet. Until they say they are working on something (or say the voicelines are gone forever), I'm going to assume they're hoping people just stop talking about it.

  • Was really hoping this would have gotten a response from the devs by now. Should we just assume this is the new norm? I wonder what the next thing to get removed is going to be. My money's on Pig's Jigsaw boxes, that killer hasn't been screwed over in a while.

  • Yup, it could be a voice actor thing as well. But for now, I guess BHVR just wants to encourage wild speculation.

Makes perfect sense. Pinhead never speaks THOSE EXACT WORDS. Not counting any variations of the same sentence. If he never speaks the exact phrase. Meaning EVERY WORD in that EXACT ORDER, then it shouldn't be there. And now it isn't. Everyone just needs to get over the voice thing. It is NOT coming back so deal with it.

Then BHVR should say it's gone permanently. Until they do, people will be right to keep talking about it.

I'd read up on Clive Barker before making assumptions. Also, have you.. SEEN WHAT HE CREATED? More importantly, consider the time period he created Hellraiser in. Granted the 80's were very metal/cocaine fueled times, but that was on the more extreme/entertainment end. The majority of people were still far more traditional than not.

Clive Barker doesn't get the rights back until December.

    https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3643180/clive-barker-regaining-u-s-rights-hellraiser-legal-battle/

  • Assuming the MMR system doesn't take SWF into account, the SWF groups will be put at the appropriate place eventually. They'll likely be higher MMR than they would be if they were playing solo. It's pretty pointless to try and target SWF specifically, there are a wide range of people that play in groups. A killer would have a tougher time against 4 solo survivors who take the game very seriously than they would against a group of friends playing casually.

Not just training, but he also likely killed THOUSANDS of people in his lore, pretty scary opponent in a duel.

And Oni was also going after people who were really skilled fighters themselves, a lot of the time.

  • If anyone's curious what the catch is, they want you to download an app and do a survey (and then will probably never give you the cells anyway).

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2487044#Comment_2487044

So you think a single voice line potentially being removed (something that BHVR probably didn't think would ever happen, like how some medications say they "may cause sudden and unexplainable death", even though that's never going to happen) is enough of an issue that BHVR should just toss out any potential licenses and essentially hand them to other companies?

No, I think BHVR's giving away their ability to talk the situation is enough of an issue though. I wouldn't be nearly as annoyed with the situation if BHVR could communicate a little bit. They haven't even stated whether the changes are going to be permanent or temporary and have refused to do so when asked. If they can't even say that much, I have to assume they signed a bad agreement.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2487013#Comment_2487013

It's sad that BHVR gives the license holders so much control in their agreements.

Pretty sure that's how all agreements work - no license holder wants their license degraded.

An agreement is negotiated. Not all licensing agreements give the license holders the same amount of power, I think BHVR is giving too much. And if they can't negotiate better terms, I would rather have them stick with original killers. This license has taken away BHVR's ability to be transparent with their playerbase and I just don't think that's worth it.

  • @Mr_K said:

Bet it will be back in 5.2.1 and will be the same as it was.

I don't really think it's that serious tbh

DbD itself might as well be one big meme.

Exactly, if the license holders got bent out of shape, it's pretty pathetic on their part. Let's face it, Hellraiser is a franchise that had one good movie over 30 years ago, if anything the jokes will help people remember what the hell it is. It's sad that BHVR gives the license holders so much control in their agreements. Currently, DBD is far more popular than the Hellraiser franchise, BHVR should have the power in those negotiations.

I get them having complications with Stranger Things, but Hellraiser? That shouldn't happen.

If they didn't, we wouldn't have the characters in the first place, do you not know how licensing works lol

Contracts are negotiable. If they were okay signing a contract that prevented them from having any kind of transparency with their consumers, then that's on them. I'm not necessarily saying they shouldn't have signed the contract. I'm sure a lot of people are still really happy to get Pinhead, even without voicelines. But if they want any of the praise from signing that contract, they deserve to get the criticism as well.

The fact that this is coming directly after the Stranger Things content just concerns me about the type of contracts they're signing.

BHVR can't just do ######### they want, like legally, with licensed characters. We were lucky pinhead had voicelines at all and we still might get new ones. But yeah, this time it isn't actually BHVRS fault, it is the license holders

BHVR signed the contract. It's their fault.

Yeah, the patch notes were out prior but a lot of people don't read those. I understand BHVR is totally legally protected by that and it's not a total bait & switch situation but it is extremely disappointing & frustrating.

Yup, it's not actually fraud, but it's as close as you can get without technically crossing the line.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2482466#Comment_2482466

If it's a licensing issue, they likely wouldn't be allowed to discuss it legally.

Then they need to think twice about signing contracts in the future because this makes them look really bad.

  • @Hex_Llama said:

Feeling disappointed doesn't alays mean that someone else did something wrong. Misunderstanding something doesn't always mean that someone was trying to mislead you.

When I read the patch notes, I inferred that the voice lines they recorded were probably not coming back, since the context made it seem like it wasn't a technical issue -- but I could be wrong. And I can understand how other people might read the notes and not see the same context.

But I think the important point is that, when you buy something, you either need to be willing to accept it as-is, or have a very clear promise for when and how it's going to be changed. TBH, I bought Trickster thinking they were obviously going to update him after release, and then I was disappointed that they didn't, but that's on me. I should have waited to see if he would get the features I wanted.

Patch notes shouldn't rely on you inferring what they mean. Transparency is not that difficult and if BHVR made it difficult by signing a contract, that's on them.

  • Not really. I've been taking a break from the game since the RE launch, waiting for things to be playable again and at this point I'm just not sure that's going to happen.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481474#Comment_2481474

If you really want BHVR to do better, accusing them of "misleading buyers" is NOT the way to go. You're free to do criticism, but the way you guys are doing it isn't meaningful in any way, in fact it hurts the game on the long run.

If BHVR's action cause people to think they are misleading buyers then it is something they are bringing on themselves. If they are not called out on it, they'll continue to behave this way. More likely than not, they'll continue to behave this way anyway, but at least more people will know how they operate. They still haven't even said outright if the changes are permanent or temporary. If they just had the slightest amount of transparency, no one would accuse them of being misleading. Until they provide that transparency, I'm going to continue thinking that they are misleading buyers by having the PTB not be representative of the final product.

If you have a different definition of what misleading buyers means, that's fine. But what BHVR is doing meets my standards for it.

And I doubt a forum post will hurt them much in the long run. Definitely less than their own actions. They're hurting themselves.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481367#Comment_2481367

"People go to the patch notes expecting things like mechanical changes" which is wrong. Everything can be changed from the PTB.

"I do think this is misleading buyers since the main exposure people have to the killer is what was seen on the PTB". Then that's the fault of those who don't know things can be changed from PTB and bought the chapter on day 1 without reading the patch notes. I don't know why BHVR should be responsible for bad buying practices.

"If BHVR doesn't want to be accused of misleading buyers, it should be on them to provide proof that that wasn't the intention" No it isn't. The one who accuses should be the one to provide proof, and until now you haven't proved anything that it was their intention to mislead buyers. Again, the DLC never stated "this killer is going to have voice lines".

If you don't approve BHVR's attitudes, stop buying things, especially on release day. I'm not satisfied with the current situation on consoles, so I didn't buy neither the RE or Pinhead chapters. If you're going to complain about BHVR misleading buyers and you still buy them on release day without reading patch notes, you're not really making a point.

    Way to make assumptions.

I didn't buy the DLC and don't intend to if this is the way BHVR is going to operate. I'm not complaining because I feel cheated. I'm complaining because I WANT to be able to get excited about future DLC. If BHVR is going to give players the bare minimum then I'm not going to buy any more DLC. The issue is that I WANT to WANT the DLC. I like this game and want to continue liking it. That is why I want BHVR to do better.

Doing the bare minimum does not make them immune from criticism. The PTB created expectations and BHVR knew those expectations were going to be broken, they could and should have handled this better.

  • @Jasix said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481341#Comment_2481341

I said "just" $5 - because that's what people are saying.. the amount is irrelevant because $5 to one person is nothing whereas to others it can be a lot of money.

I said "doing their part" because you keep saying they are only doing what they HAVE to do etc and that action will upset players.

Again you continue to completely absolve the buyer who couldn't be bothered to read about the product they were buying.

Anyways this topic is inane and ran its course - have fun - I'm out.

And you continue to completely absolve the seller of providing information in a visible way. I just think BHVR can do better and am really hoping they strive to do so in the future.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481277#Comment_2481277

Why should they have to make a huge announcement out of this? Patch notes as I stated are everywhere, and the information isn't "buried", it's in the official way of BHVR communicating updates. I don't see why making a huge fuss out of it. The only things they should communicate are changes/bugs that weren't listed on the patch notes, like disabling RPD.

You can complain if you want to, I never said you can't, just don't go accusing a company of "misleading buyers" when you have no proof it at all.

Because a company should want to be transparent with their consumers. People go to the patch notes expecting things like mechanical changes, not changes to the theme of the character. I do think this is misleading buyers since the main exposure people have to the killer is what was seen on the PTB. If BHVR doesn't want to be accused of misleading buyers, it should be on them to provide proof that that wasn't the intention. If they do the bare minimum to get the information out, they're covering their asses legally, but misleading buyers from every other standpoint.

  • @Jasix said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481277#Comment_2481277

When I make a purchase I do a modicum of research beforehand... even if it is for "just" $5. You keep criticizing BHVR for not "doing their part"... guess what - consumers have a part to play as well - be informed on your purchases otherwise you just come across as a petulant entitled Karen.

Why do you keep using quotations marks for things I didn't even say? Is that the only way you can make your point? Putting words in people's mouths?

I saw a post on reddit about the change and didn't buy the DLC because of it. That doesn't mean that I can't complain about horrible business practices when I see them. I'm not complaining because I want a refund, I'm complaining because I want some transparency from BHVR in the future. I like this game and want to continue to like it, but if they are going to do the bare minimum for their player base, I can't really justify buying more DLC. I'm complaining because I want them to do better.

But I guess this is the precedent we're setting. Players will have to go into every DLC purchase with the assumption that BHVR ######### it up somehow and they'll have to go into the patch notes to see how. The trust is gone.

  • @v4lor said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481274#Comment_2481274

Will BHVR be releasing a statement about this? I'm sure there are many people who bought the DLC under the impression the voice-lines were a definite part of the package, and would appreciate some communication/transparency on the matter.

I would also like to know the answer to this. "Complications" is super vague and the moderator posts about the voice lines have been vague as well.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481245#Comment_2481245

Every game includes its changes on the patch nothes, and those are put everywhere. Twitter, Facebook, Forums, Instagram and even when you open the game it's literally the first thing you see. They have no obligation of making a huge post on Twitter saying "hey guys sorry but we removed the voice lines!".

If you still buy the chapter without reading the patch notes, then again that's on you. Make it a lesson for anything you buy on your life.

You're talking about obligation again. I'm talking about what they SHOULD do if they care about their customers. You seem more concerned with what they HAVE to do to avoid a fraud lawsuit. Legally, they have no obligation to keep the game running at all. They could shut it down tomorrow like they did with Deathgarden. Are you saying people wouldn't have the right to complain if they did that?

It would have been extremely easy for them to send a tweet or make the information more visible then burying it in the patch notes, but they didn't. They deserve criticism for doing so.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481219#Comment_2481219

Fog Whisperers are not part of BHVR. They have nothing to do with advertisement. Their main way of advertising a new killer is through trailers, official streams and official social media, and none of those said "hey this killer is going to have voice lines!!!". Everybody should know at this point nothing at PTB is final, it was your choice to believe it was going to be.

Right and that's why BHVR is not legally responsible. But they know that people watch those streams to see what the new killer is like and they decided to do the bare minimum to inform the playerbase of the change.

This isn't fraud, they are allowed to change things from the PTB. But if they make a controversial change that the know players are going to be annoyed about and then hide that change away as one line of the patch notes, they deserve the criticism they get for that decision.

Now the players will have to check the patch notes carefully every time there is a release to see what was removed, the trust is gone. BHVR could have just been a little bit more transparent, but they decided not to be. Probably because it would hurt sales.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

How did they mislead buyers? When you read the description of the DLC in the store, it clearly states the only thing it has is "New Killer - The Cenobite". It isn't stated anywhere that the killer would come with voice lines.

The main advertising DBD gets comes from the streams and videos of their fog whisperers which show a killer with voice lines. That's how they mislead buyers. More people will watch those streams then read the patch notes.

If they cared about transparency, they could have sent a tweet about the voice lines. Putting it in the patch notes is doing the bare minimum to not be on the line for fraud and that's it.

  • @Jasix said:

Did you just visit thesaurus.com or something?? Your past three posts you keep saying "unequivocal" like that somehow "wins" your argument.

A corporation has no DUTY to inform you WHY a product has changed from pre-launch to launch - PERIOD.

It was clearly stated that the product was being released without the voice-lines - the WHY has no bearing on the product. You have no right to know the WHY - seriously.. you don't.

Legally, BHVR could just shut down the game tomorrow like they did with Deathgarden. It would be a ######### move to do so, but they have no DUTY to keep this game up. But it would be ######### to do that.

They have no DUTY to give us more info about these voice lines and no DUTY to post about it in a place more public than the patch notes which not everyone needs. It doesn't mean that it's not ######### of them to do so.

If BHVR wants to set the precedent that they'll only do what they're legally required to for their customers, those customers won't stick around for long.

Assuming it IS licensing issues, they may be beholden to not say it is licensing issues.

Then that's their fault for signing the contract. If the contract had some term that may make them look very bad to their customers and they decided to sign anyway, that's on them. It definitely doesn't get them off the hook to just say their hands are tied. They tied their own hands on this one.

  • Yup. Guessing they ran into legal issues and made the vague comment about file complications so people would still buy the dlc. If it was a technical issue they'd be more open about it. If it IS a technical issue and this is how they've decided to handle it then they seriously need to work on communication.

  • @Mandy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2480389#Comment_2480389

Going to completely refute this one due to the wording you used! Patch Notes were out at 10.30am EST, the Chapter came out at 12pm EST - so there was plenty of time to make yourself aware of the the removal of the voice lines. So please choose your words carefully and do not make accusations of theft or fraud again.

The patch notes say it's due to complications with the audio files which would strongly imply they're coming back. Your earlier post about not commenting further strongly implies it's due to legal issues instead which would mean they likely aren't coming back. So are the patch notes misleading or are the voice lines coming back?

Also, an hour and a half notice is not very much. You're assuming that the person is going to check the patch notes before purchasing. Is that really where we're at now? People have to check the patch notes to see how BHVR gutted the new killer? Is that the precedent you're trying to set for the future?

  • It feels pretty dirty to remove them last second like this, almost a bait and switch. I really hope BHVR will give an actual answer about this. Between these voice lines being removed and losing the Stranger Things content, I'm starting to have serious concerns about any future licensed content.

What incentive would there be to play Ranked over Casual?

You will get one of those modes being an exact copy of what we have now, with the other being a ghost town.

We have Ranked and Casual. Public matches are ranked, and Custom Game is casual.

Otherwise, what's to stop bully squads from just playing Casual to continue noob-stomping?

Yup, exactly. I think what they'd need to do is have something more like a 'party' mode. Some people already claim this is a party game so might as well go with something that fits the bill. Basically, I'm talking about adding a lot of RNG that would make it less appealing to more competitive players, but more appealing to more casual players. Something like items in Smash.

A lot of competitive players would still play it and would still be better than casual players, but the RNG nature would even things out a bit.

There's other approaches they could take with the 2nd mode, maybe leaning into the horror aspect by making the game more immersive. Either way, a carbon copy of the normal mode with MMR removed wouldn't do much good for anyone.

Has nothing to do with 4K's and everything to do with not wanting to play sweats every game. You know there's this thing called...variety? right? I know you lack it just based on your comment alone but just remember if SBMM can take down a billion dollar company and game like COD with it's regular 6v6 mode which I would know because I used to play COD so it can most definitely do the same with BHVR just wait and watch lmao.

You'll only be playing with sweats if you're playing sweaty. If you don't care about 4Ks, then just play the way you want, no one is forcing you to sweat. But that's not what you want. You want to get paired against scrubs so you can 4k without having to actually try.

I don't think they will ever add a separate mode purely because it will split the fanbase.

That argument made sense when the game was small, but now it's regularly hanging near the top of the steam charts, ranked 11 right now for example. Plus, this game has crossplay so there's even more players on console in addition to the over 50,000 on steam right now. Plenty of games with less players have multiple mode. Rocket League is lower on the charts and they have at least 6 modes I can think of off the top of my head.

Queue times in this game are due to the imbalance of killers and survivors at an given time, not the lack of players.

So sure, it would split the fanbase, but that could be a good thing. If they could tweak ranked and casual individually, it could create a better experience for both types of player and hopefully draw even more people into the game.

  • Myers. It's not that he's particularly strong or anything, but for some reason my brain just completely turns off when I'm facing him.

couldn't clive take away the license then like netflix did with demo?

because that's what sounds like will happen when he gets the license back

I figure they either worked out a long term deal or just want to make money with it while they can. Copyright law is weird, so I'm just making guesses at this point really.
