Artist PLEASE
No not artist, buuuut notice how Spring Trap doesnt have to reload and gets 4.6 when hes empty basekit? Plus Jason has more accuracy and can hit you faster than huntress? (nerf them or buff huntress)

Problem is if you go against a SWF you sometimes have to tunnel to make a come back, yet if the other players are on coms stopping the tunnel is really easy.

I mean there are P100 rewards coming up, they were just delayed to make room for all of the upcoming improvements due to the recent buggy releases.
I'm not sure where the argument that Tokyo Ghoul doesn't fit in with DBD comes from. There's a good amount of horror in it, and I think people are quick to discount that just because it's an anime. He absolutely fits into DBD imo.
Nic Cage is probably a more decent argument but considering Survivors are literally just people, it's kind of whatever. Horror and comedic relief go hand in hand a lot of the time too, I think people tend to forget that.
I don't consider the anime horror, for an anime it's just got some dark horror elements. I know Kaneki is also dark but he's an anime protagonist for crying out loud. Him in DBD is like a bad fanfic.

it seems people will always try to gatekeep what is classified as horror and what should and shouldnt be added to the game unfortunantly. I dont care at this point who or what gets added at this point i just want them to be fun true to the character and not buggy.
Understandable. I am glad for you if it's only about the fun. I care a lot about atmosphere.

A new legacy cosmetic would be pointless because it would be super common, which would defeat the whole purpose of having it in the first place (wanting to show off something super rare). Nobody would use it after a couple of days.
Less pointless that a portrait, besides I think we'd see less than you think with the new characters.

We should absolutely get rewards for things like hitting p100, I agree. The licenses are the lifeblood of DBD so I'm not really bothered by those. One thing I really despise however is how common Very Rare cosmetics are. Every new set releases as one, even if it's broken. The rarity is so high that you're unlikely to get it without AC and I think that's really crappy to do to the audience.
I get why they have so many licenses (basically just money and new players tbh) they should be prioritizing the games actual health tho.

BHVR you are just shooting your own game in the foot by rolling back the anti slugging / anti tunneling changes that non-biased players have been wanting for YEARS. Why roll them back because of a loud minority of doomer killer mains crying who are too bad to win games skillfully? Survivor is becoming increasingly frustrating with bad killer design (clown, kaneki, nurse, blight, etc), lack of tools given to solo queue, and overall balance clearly shifting in favor of killer even though killrates are already high.
How do they expect to sustain the game when survivors aren't given incentive to play? I imagine killer queue times will skyrocket 2v8 style because nobody will want to play survivor.
Such a knee-jerk reaction by the devs to rollback these changes when it would benefit the majority of the playerbase. It's truly a shame.
The only thing making me not wanna play survivor is BHVR treating their game like a walking ad/cash cow where the genre and atmosphere don't even matter. Every killer is just a mixture of a former killer and some popular franchise being treated badly. Getting tunneled isn't a bad thing, it's a strat, and its fun if you know how to loop.

ah yes... 2.7.0... the introduction of Ghost Face- I mean the Endgame Collapse.
I wouldnt mind it, but I feel like theres a lot of things at this point that are still fairly modern. I would say 1.9.3 or 2.0.0 would be better picks since theres a lot of things from those patches that simply arent in the game anymore.
I wouldn't mind if they did some mixing and matching as well as like I said, balancing. Just trying to start the conversation, but the old maps with old lighting, and older killers IMO would be nonnegotiable. Thanks for sharing ur thoughts ^^

I just wanna point out that you'll be punished for accidentally running into the survivor multiple times, or they keep testing you.

Uhm I just want to tell people this actually has nothing to do with the patch notes or what's going on in the game this is actually a personal thing
Quiting DBD and gaming in general.
The reason is that something in my personal life outside of DBD has made me in a possible homeless situation and this could be my actual very last post on the website.
I want to say before I go is that thank you for giving me a game to get my mind off the world that's been crumbling down around me.
This does have something to do with me becoming homeless very soon and will most possibly never be able to play again.
Regardless of the games problems its a amazing game
I started playing sense The Lichs release and I Main The Unknown P33 which this means im canceling my road for P100 and this is where ill stop playing 100%
I know most people don't care but I do have a very strong bond to DBD because of the years I spent on the game. Just seeing the game go just breaks me as I speak.
Im now going to step into the Fog where I belong.
Thank you all for everything.
To : The DBD community and Devs
I'm not sure what's going on, but I've faced homelessness and stuff b4. I hope you'll be alright, and that you may return. I'll add you to my prayers. Thanks for updating us.

When have we ever had another killer that can transform into a demon? A killer with a gun? An entity that can shoot sludge grenades? I get what you mean, but each killer truly is unique in some aspect. M1 killers not really, but even they have their own identity.
This wasnt about Unknown specifically or anything, that was just the timing.
@Aven_Fallen said:
With your logic you can say that every Killer is the same because they all can hit Survivors with their weapon when you press M1.
With 35 Killers (and many more in the future, since the Devs will probably not change their release schedule), it is bound to happen that there are some overlays here and there. But honestly, Killers are usually really unique, even if they share features. E.g. Billy and Bubba both have a chainsaw, yet they playstyle or way of using it is way different.
Playing Huntress is totally different from playing Nurse or Trapper even if they both hit you tho. I feel like killers are losing that distinction and we don't need 35 of them.

Can they make it dark again? It was so much better

With Bodyblocking - it's the definition of the term which confuses people, in your example re Sadako blocking someone in the corner - that's holding the game hostage because that player cannot do anything to progress the game, it's irrespective of whether others are alive to do generators.
Exploits that are bannable are normally listed on the forum page - currently there are no exploits that we are actively banning for. And that happens less these days as we have the kill switch so we're able to switch off something that's exploitable.
Facecamping etc have never been considered as exploits, nor AFK Pig was either...it was a playstyle that we didn't approve of, but it wasn't an exploit, so it was something that we addressed. None of what you list there are actual exploits so nothing is reportable.
We are looking to update the game rules and make things clearer.
Ah okay, so holding a player hostage is still holding the game hostage. That makes sense.
It's good to know exploits are listed on the forum page and that for the most part things just get kill-switched.
I would look forward to the rules being updated to be more clear. Thanks for responding.
-
Say what you will about making the game fun, but that's not really what the question is about. Ofc there is something to be said about treating people how you wanna be treated, but at the end of the day unfun shouldn't mean reportable.

I didn't say they would like it "most" I said it was an important aspect of DBD becoming popular in the first place. Aesthetic is important for media, but I think most people would say that gameplay is more important. Anyways, the most common opinion I've seen about the aesthetics in my experience is most players miss the old look.
Of course the people who miss the old aesthetic are the most vocal ones, the people who already enjoys the current aesthetic have no reason to speak up.
It looks to me to be more of a vocal minority.
Halloween really let DBD take off, and Idk if they would have gotten the license if they didn't play their cards with horror.
If dbd wasn't horror, they most likely would have gone for a different license that fitted the genre the game would be in instead.
I think there has to be more than intent involved, otherwise, no one would fail at art and storytelling.
That's why you have the story itself to back that intend up with, Trickster's story is no more horror than ghostface's is.
Trickster IMO is a failed attempt at horror. He doesn't belong in the category.
and IMO, Trickster is more horror than Ghostface is, if a story is solid, it can back the design up, something Trickster's story very much is.
So if the DC universe stayed the same, but the writers came out and said their intention was to be scary, or horror, by your logic Joker would be a horror villain. Since we can't read minds and good writers don't tell you how to interpret their characters, they let you figure them out for yourself by their writing skills, I'm gonna be honest and say Trickster is just as horror as Joker IMO.
Thing is, you can have the writers come out and say their intention, you can have a scary batman horror story, but that wouldn't change Batman IP from a superhero franchise into a horror franchise all of the sudden.
Same way that Dead by Daylight doesn't suddenly stop being a horror IP since that is what it is officially established and classified as despite making something like Hooked on You or bringing in non-horror related cosmetics.
But then again, where does it end? Don't gatekeep what's scary. I think the ghost house music in old school Mario is terrifying, and some of those ghosts were unreasonably creepy. Should Mario be a DBD survivor? Is having standards gatekeeping? I do like some niche horror movies, doesn't mean I think they should be involved with DBD.
I've haven't gatekept what's scary, but there is still a difference in something that is classified as a horror IP and something that isn't.
You can have horror theme'd things in a non-horror IP, but that wouldn't make it into a horror IP all of the sudden.
Dead by Daylight is officially classified and labeled as a horror IP while Batman is not. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.
Having a niche horror movie added to an officially classified horror game such as dbd still fit better because they're both officially classified as horror.
It's reasonable that you don't wanna see old DBD come back, but then I could turn around and say "You're gatekeeping what the best version of DBD is and not supporting people who want the option!" sharing opinions on what is and isn't horror isn't gatekeeping any more than that is.
It may not be gatekeeping, but thinking something that has an officially recognized title within the horror genre as not being horror wouldn't make it any less part of the horror genre.
You edited it. It says on the comment when you edit things. I saw what you put before you edited it.
Fine, that one is on me.
I think it would make sense, not for all of them to look the exact same, but to have a dark and hopeless feeling. This is a game called "Dead BY Daylight" and the entity feeds off your suffering. Mostly I don't like the looks of corn maps, Eyre, or Ormond. Ormond looked so dark and cool. The graphics look better, sure, but the actual aesthetic is kinda gross.
Okay, and all the maps are made out of the memories, which means the time of day doesn't matter to the Entity when it feeds on more than just the suffering of both the killer & survivors.
Dead by Daylight is no different than Dead by Dawn, which is just a saying and not an actual literal meaning.
The sun on daytime maps isn't real
Ormond looked just as awful as old MacMillan did, Coldwind is a vast improvement as now it actually feels like something from Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Eyrie is still a better looking map than any of the old maps did.
The current aesthetic is 10x better than the old washed out boring ps2 graphics that was disgustingly ugly to look at, especially the blue tint on MacMillan maps.
They could update the graphics, but to make maps so peaceful and bright IMO is too far.
The maps are no more peaceful than what they were before.
IMO bright maps are still fine because it adds variety to the game, if it stood to some people, they take it a step further and add different times of day to each map.
Fair enough. I would still say if Trickster is horror, Joker may as well be.
And i would still say that Trickster is a horror character while joker isn't.
In the game from years ago. Dredge is alright tho. I look at Knight, SM, Trickster, and I don't think "horror genre!" I think "Fantasy RPG? Fallout? Dating sim?"
No more than i look at Deathslinger or Legion and don't think ''horror genre'' I think Red Dead Redemption & Payday 2.
DBD was never scary IMO, but the aesthetic was still horror. Scary doesn't = horror.
Never said it did, that's why i called horror universal and scary is subjective, because they're not one and the same.
The new aesthetic is also still horror, just a more vast and expanded one.
I would say after looking at aesthetics and lore my points still stand. Huntress was my example. Was it a bad one?
Kinda, because the people saying Huntress has the mind of a child is incorrect.
The original aesthetic is too limiting for how vast and diversed the horror genre is and how many different types of horror that can be added to the game, the new aesthetic support the inclusion of them easier, which is a good thing.
Sorry for late reply.
It could be, but I kinda doubt it. There are a ton of videos on YT talking about how they liked the old aesthetic better, and they get tons of likes and comments. I don't think it's always something people who miss old DBD go searching for either.
DBD is still horror IMO, but less horror, and I don't like the path its going down and I don't think they are meeting the horror genre with some killers, as mentioned before. If they don't play their cards right
Agree to disagree on that.
Okay but again, if Trickster is horror I don't see why Joker isn't. He has a higher kill count, more evil ideas, and I'm sure some of these were meant to be scary, but again, we should be able to understand genre aside from creators coming out and stating their intentions with their story. It's a principal called show don't tell. If you didn't tell me DBD was a horror game, I'd have no idea Trickster, Skull Merchant, and in some ways Knight and Artist are horror characters. So to me, they are simply failed attempts at horror even with their backstories.
The time of day would matter more to the killer and their memories, survivors would be more scared in the dark. Besides, Billy lived in Coldwind, he saw it dark. I don't like the verity. Coldwind, Ormond, Toba Landing, Garden of Joy, Eyre, SM's MacMillan I think none of these feel like horror. Like yeah, "scary the inside of main is upside-down" and "cow tree has big dead animals" but throwing in a few horror elements doesn't make the whole map scary.
I can't argue too much about the graphics. As charming as they were in many ways they were ugly and I can understand why they changed, but it's not just the graphics, it's the whole map design. I still prefer a muddy dark Coldwind than a sunny peaceful one.
I think that's an unpopular opinion, that it's no more peaceful but to each their own.
Slinger would be like an urban legend in RDR2 that you do to do a ritual to summon. He would be very out of place. I guess you have a point with Legion tho. Legion to me feels like a 1999 Ghostface so I can forgive them, I still can't forgive how the new killers have a pattern of drifting away from horror.
This conversation proves horror is subjective, but there is still something to be said about the version of horror DBD built it's legacy on, and how many fans don't like this new direction it's going.
I totally disagree that the new aesthetic is horror.
Unsocialized people can be quite child-like even if she is sadistic and great with survival.
I'm gonna be honest I don't think it should be vast and diverse. If I wanted to play Fortnite I would.

It's hard to say. I think if it wasn't a dark scary asymmetrical horror it wouldn't have gotten this far. Aesthetic matters a lot when world building. I think now that it's gotten this far they can get away with changing up the original aesthetic, but I don't think it's a smart move in the long term and I don't think its good for the people who liked DBD for what it is.
I have never seen a single person praise or note the old graphics for being an aspect they like the most about dbd, most people didn't even talk about it until the realm beyond happened.
I think the game would have been the same regardless if the game started out with the reworked graphics since most people play the game for the gameplay and the licenses.
Again, what are we gonna consider horror? Intense action movies are scary to some people. Murder is scary to people. Is the joker and Harley Quinn horror villains? Is Die Hard a horror movie? Sure, I don't wanna sit here and dictate what people do or don't find scary, but DBD was built on a certain vibe that honestly, I don't think is scary, but I would still call horror.
The intend is what matters, what is intended as horror is what is considered to be horror.
Trickster is a horror character because he was made with the intend as a horror character.
Joker & Harley Quinn is intended as supervillains for a comic series that isn't horror intended, therefore they are not horror characters despite doing bad stuff.
My previous point was that things which are intended as horror will always be horror no matter what, regardless if people don't those parts of the horror genre or think it's not valid in comparison to the conventional horror parts of the genre.
The fans called it Smash Bros of horror to roast them, at least that's the impression I got from the community. If the devs are doing it I'm assuming it's taking a joke the community made and owning it, like "pretty good job so far"
I'm pretty sure the people in the community calling the game the smash bros of horror is not meant as a roast since most people say it in a positive manner whenever there's a topic about how big dbd has become with all it's collection of licenses.
In fact, i have not seen a single soul so far in this community use those title in a negative way.
Eh, gatekeeping is a non-issue 95% of the time. I agree snoppy elitist behaviour like saying "you can't be a real fan unless you know these facts, or look like me, or aren't an icky girl!" is really cringe, but original fans making points about how the game is changing in ways that don't fit isn't gatekeeping IMO.
I see it as gatekeeping when people refuses to recognizes more niche or unconventional parts of the horror genre as being just as valid parts of the horror genre and that only conventional horror to them is seen as true horror.
Also you're writing with an original fan who don't think the game is changing in ways that don't fit.
Didn't I make a post about missing old DBD and wanting to see it come back as a game mode for the people who would want that, and you commented something like I must be blinded by nostalgia, then you changed it to say OPTIONAL OR NOT you never wanna see old DBD again? That's a respectable opinion, but don't then turn around and say I'm coming off as a gatekeeper.
Me saying that i don't want old dbd regardless if it's optional or not is not meant as gatekeeping, it just means i won't support the idea no matter what, however that does not mean you're not entitled have that opinion or want to see it added and if some old dbd thing does get added to the game, i'll simply just accept it's existence and just not touch it.
I can't find anything from your previous threads of me saying to you specifically you're blinded by nostalgia, so i'm not sure what you're referering to.
But maybe the realm should still be dark and grim. I agree that it isn't anymore, but I think it's worse for it.
I think it's for the better, variety is better than having all maps have a consistent grim dark theme across the board, it would make it all feel very samey and imo boring.
I personally always found the old graphics really ugly with props that basically had no shadow and was too bright in a dark night setting that had some badly colored filters.
The Trickster is a pretty k-pop murderer man. Maybe that's scary, but I think he would fit in an anime style dating sim about a girl who falls in love with a charming psychopath than a horror game. That's just me and I know I'm not alone, but I understand a lot of people really like Trickster.
You're entitled to your opinion, but your reasoning behind why you think that is something i find to be just very shallow.
Danny and Doctor aren't innocent, that's not what I meant. I meant they come off as functional and even successful people like Trickster does, but done well IMO.
I wouldn't qualify Doctor in that regard.
I'd also say Trickster is done better than Ghostface IMO.
A few horror elements shouldn't qualify you to be in a horror game IMO. You might as well make Joker a killer.
Except there's still more than enough horror elements in the game.
There might have been some that have disappeared as the game have evolved, but it's far from few.
Also all horror games stops being scary eventually, especially multiplayer ones.
Huntress is not a big woman in a mask, some would call her a feral woman with a sadistic childlike mind in a creepy mask. Slinger doesn't look normal at all, he looks deformed and nothing about him is appealing. Again, killers can be appealing but it should still fit the original aesthetic IMO. I never liked Chucky, but I still think he's a creepy doll.
I know but this is what i mean, if you're gonna compare characters, at least do it equally cross all characters you're comparing to each other, instead of going ''this killer doesn't fit because of his aesthetic, he's hot and is k-pop related'' while with other characters, you go into more details for why they fit such as parts of their character, lore or personality, instead of just surface level stuff only.
At least that's what it comes off as.
I didn't say they would like it "most" I said it was an important aspect of DBD becoming popular in the first place. Aesthetic is important for media, but I think most people would say that gameplay is more important. Anyways, the most common opinion I've seen about the aesthetics in my experience is most players miss the old look.

I would agree that yes, perhaps it has branched out, but in doing that they have kind of backtracked on what made the game popular in the first place. I would argue it's less horror now, and more Fortnite.
Compared to all the other things that made dbd popular, the aesthetic probably the aspect that has affected the game's popularity the least.
Just because it's branched out, does not mean it's less horror now, if anything it's still just as much horror as it was before, it's just not one type of horror like it used to. Also you don't get to dictate what is or isn't horror because what may not be scary to you is scary to others.
Also it's been labeled by people and the devs themselves as titles such as (Fortnite for horror, The Smash Bros of Horror & The Hall of Fame of Horror) Last one by the devs themselves, the reason they call it that is exactly because it has branched into other types of horror, including the niche and unconventional ones that Trickster & SM is part of. You not thinking that is horror does not change that it is still seen as horror officially.
I'm kind of over "horror isn't supposed to be scary. Think of all the monsters walking around in day-to-day life" and BHVR already did a good job portraying characters like this, while changing them to look like they fit the aesthetic in the realm. I think of Herman Carter, Danny Johnson, some innocent characters driven to immoral actions.
Horror is universal, scary is subjective.
Again, just because you don't find something scary does not mean it isn't horror, since other people might find it more scary than what you think horror really is. I'd advice you not to play gatekeeper on what is or isn't horror, it is gonna make you look like a snobby elitist who thinks his definition of horror is the only correct one.
The realms isn't dark and grim anymore, so the whole fitting the realm argument doesn't work.
Also funny how you focus on lore and personality for characters like The Doctor & Ghostface, yet when it comes to Trickster it's just ''hurr durr killer bad because k-pop and bright aesthetic''
Lastly there is nothing innocent over Doctor or Ghostface, Danny killed his dad in a fit of rage and decided to keep killing for fame in secrecy. Doctor downright believes himself superior to his peers, thinks morality is for the weak minded and will torture others to his heart's content. Claiming that Trickster (Who probably have just as much of an evil lore as those two) is less of a killer because he doesn't dress all dark and spooky like ghostface or has damaged skin with electricity running through his body like Doctor comes off as a really superficial reason.
I would argue a lot of "bubble gum horror" doesn't fit in alongside Chucky, Myers, Hag, and Spirit. Characters like Trickster and SM are skirting the line of thriller and action. At this point, Harley Quinn might as well be a horror character.
Harley Quinn & Trickster differs from each other in character, something that is more important than their visuals.
Also alot of Batman villains have horror elements over them without being horror characters, that still doesn't compare to Trickster because he is written as a horror character.
I wouldn't compare any of these characters to SM or Trickster. Legion, some of their cosmetics do them no favours but their defaults are fine. Huntress is this isolated homicidal woman who wears an eerie bunny mask, that's the type of thing I think bubble gum horror should mean. Slinger and Chucky are both creepy af. None of these characters look like Hag, Twins, or Doctor, but they work and some are horror icons.
Again, if you're gonna judge characters, at least do it fairly across the board, otherwise i can just do the exact same thing you do, here just watch.
Huntress is just a big woman in a mask, Deathslinger is literally just a cowboy & Chucky is just a doll. None of them are even remotely scary.
Meanwhile you have Trickster, a famous person who can get away with murder to advance his work because nobody suspects a person like him to be a narcissistic cold blooded psychopathic murder who think of himself as a god while everyone else is beneath him, he may not be like Spirit, Hag or Twins, but he still fits the bill of being a cold blooded serial killer and the closest to a real life one we have.
-
Just because you're biased towards conventional horror, does not change the fact that it is not the only valid type of horror and DBD is no longer that kind of horror only, the game not being coventional horror only anymore does not make it less horror just because you don't like it.
It's hard to say. I think if it wasn't a dark scary asymmetrical horror it wouldn't have gotten this far. Aesthetic matters a lot when world building. But maybe the realm should still be dark and grim. I agree that it isn't anymore, but I think it's worse for it.
The Trickster is a pretty k-pop murderer man. Maybe that's scary, but I think he would fit in an anime style dating sim about a girl who falls in love with a charming psychopath than a horror game. That's just me and I know I'm not alone, but I understand a lot of people really like Trickster.
Danny and Doctor aren't innocent, that's not what I meant. I meant they come off as functional and even successful people like Trickster does, but done well IMO.
A few horror elements shouldn't qualify you to be in a horror game IMO. You might as well make Joker a killer.

It does work, because this game has evolved past it's grim dark aesthetic and slasher + supernatural horror direction a long time ago, it has branched out into other horror types and niches, it's now more of an amalgamation of all types of horror to exist in the same space, such as the Bubblegum horror niche Trickster is part of.
Horror in of itself is incredibly diversed and comes in all shapes and forms, including hot conventional horror villains or even mediocre everyday normal looking humans.
Also if we only judge by appearance, then Legion, Deathslinger, Chucky, Wesker & Huntress doesn't work either.
I would agree that yes, perhaps it has branched out, but in doing that they have kind of backtracked on what made the game popular in the first place. I would argue it's less horror now, and more Fortnite. I would argue a lot of "bubble gum horror" doesn't fit in alongside Chucky, Myers, Hag, and Spirit. Characters like Trickster and SM are skirting the line of thriller and action. At this point, Harley Quinn might as well be a horror character.
None of these characters look like Hag, Twins, or Doctor, but they work and some are horror icons.

i think trickster fits pretty well and one of dbd's most creative designs
a kpop artist who leads a double life but his second life is that of a serial killer? that's brilliant
he's the killer you never notice who shows you something but is entirely another thing
he doesn't hide behind a mask he thrives for attention he even leaves clues for the police for fun. arrogant but smart.
i think trickster's lore was handled very well and is so underrated.
dull merchant tho is the worse design bhvr ever made in every way possible.
It's not a bad idea, but it's not scary. If he showed up in the realm looking more like Doctor or even Trapper that would work better IMO. Even then it kinda screams of trying to appeal to the K-pop community cuz that's popular rn. He seems like he'd be more in place in an anime-style dating sim, you know, like the ones where an innocent girl falls in love with some homicidal but charming man?

@Smoe said:
Trickster fits dbd way more than SM does in every single way and even then i wouldn't say she doesn't fit dbd.
Also there's nothing wrong with having human/conventional looking killers or even hot looking human killers, not every killer needs to be a masked axed wielding murder or some monsterous abomination, best thing to have is variety and there's room for it all.
In another genre I'd agree, but not for horror. More human killers like Legion and even Plague are fair enough, but SM and Trickster IMO don't work.

They were a really annoying reward for many reasons. I wish we had some distinct reward that we could show off in game. Until then, this is what we got for now.

I dont think they will bring any legacy stuff back.
Other than that, i like the idea of including devotion. Having high devotion seems like an afterthought at this point.
They would never bring back the cosmetics, but since we got the portraits I don't see an issue with special badges.

I've got a better idea.
Make WoO basekit.
Finally solo queue survivors will have the same knowledge regarding resources on the map as SWF, without needing to equip a specific perk for it.
This is an interesting idea, what if it was basekit at the beginning so you could see the layout, then whenever a pallet is dropped you see its aura for a few seconds?
-
I want a legacy badge for the characters I hit P3 on before the prestige rework. Others can only see the characters I grinded back then if I'm streaming, so it's a bit inconsequential imo. I want something that'll show up that other players can see.
Maybe a special badge for hitting prestige milestones on different characters.
Perhaps a badge for devotion levels, but I kinda hope they do something more interesting with devotions.

Wow killers really can't cope with the idea of having one Gen regression perk being taken down a reasonable notch from a must pick perk to a perk you need to build around.
When there's a sea of other Gen regression perks there is to stack together on their blights and weskers.
It was a need that needed to happen.
I play both sides and lately more survivor. I miss old ruin because it was a really interesting perk. The only time I ever thought it was broken was when it was the swamp, tinkerer wasn't nerfed, and we really couldn't find the totem and the randos didn't split up. It's not like you could hit gens with ruin, basically you just had to find the hex or split up. It's a shame to see a once beloved perk become totally useless imo.
-
Of all the perks. Honestly windows is fine the way it is imo. Great beginner perk too. How would you even want it nerfed?
-
I thought most of the feedback was positive...
Well as someone who isn't a fan of Chucky he just kinda feels like a lot of recycled killer mechanics. He's too short. I was never really a fan of the movies either, they're a little too cringe.
I still welcome Chucky to DBD tho, he's an icon.
-
It's just cuz he's the new killer. It'll settle down on it's own eventually.

The only thing that was WAY better back then were the Aesthetics. You don't miss 90% of the broken mechanics/exploits, it's just nostalgia or you wanna bully some people that don't know how to do something against these exploits when it's even possible.
Of course, I think if they brought it back as a game mode they should polish up some broken mechanics, and obviously the exploits. There's a lot I miss about old DBD that I talked about, and if you didn't read that giant wall of text I made I don't blame you.
TLDR:
The familiarity of the perks and killers.
The perks having an impact on the identity of the game and the lore.
Obviously the aesthetics. Totally different vibe which imo was far superior.
More fun items.
Minus killers like SM, Trickster, ect. Now again, I don't expect BHVR to delete these killers, just again, the option to go back to better times.

Optional or not, i don't ever wanna see old dbd ever again regardless of how far back we go.

The problem with buffing perks is that it can lead to power creep. If each perk has to be better than the meta perks end up having way more impact than they should. Even then overzealous and Gearhead are getting great buffs
It feels like perks win games as opposed to skill
That's actually not a bad point, but I think buffs like Saboteur, and Light Weight were spot on.
-
Also Ruin is dead and I miss it dearly. Not even sure it's worth being a hex.
-
Camping Bubba is the easiest thing to counter. It doesn't have much gameplay but I really don't think its that offensive. You're only on the hook for so long. You don't have to like the play style, but I still like it for the memes. It's not like camping Bubba is a common occurrence. Not really an issue.
-
I find liminal spaces very comforting. I wouldn't be against a liminal inspired chapter, especially if they can make the killer creepy. I feel like a killer for a liminal chapter could potentially be iconic and meaningful for a lot of players.
Although Pyramid Head already gives me a liminal vibe, I wouldn't mind them taking it a step further.

Alright, my first discussion since serving my month in the hole. So there's this notion I keep seeing in the comments of the recent changes.
Apparently Hit & Run playstyles are bad? What? Why?
I'm hitting a Survivor, then LETTING YOU GO, and then finding another Survivor.
Isn't this literally the exact opposite of tunnelling? Isn't tunnelling "worse than ever" now? I'm letting you go and releasing you to still keep playing the game and people are mad?
What do you want from killers? If I hook you and stay and camp, that's bad. If I hit you and stay on you, that is tunnelling and I'm a scumbag. If I do nothing that is being an AFK killer and THAT is bad!
WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM US?!
Tunneling is not bad. Don't listen to people who make it out to be the worst moral failing of the game. Usually if you are even able to tunnel as certain killers, it's because the survivors are doing something wrong anyway.
Hit and run is fine too, but in the current meta it is a little weak.
-
To me the interesting thing is how hard they nerfed Self Care, and not CoH which is much more annoying, and it's stronger. Especially if you play a hit and run killer.

Weird sentence but ok, don't really know how a killer will know if someone is upset or not.
But that's not the point here. The point here is I want a streaming feature that's been in almost every single game since 2015. It's already on PC and it should already have been added on console too. I've listed my reasons for it happening to me, personally and if anyone has a problem with that then it sounds like a them issue.
They could be stream sniping, or getting a friend to do it.
I don't have an issue with adding more measures to make it so TTVs have more fun. At the same time, as a TTV who has been targeted for being a TTV, I'm not gonna put my Twitch as my name then complain that I got attention for it. As along as they aren't breaking the rules, they can have any playstyle they want. Just like how they can target the level 100, they can target the TTV, which they are more likely to do because they can watch from the other POV.

And your comment just reinforces my reasoning for the post.
If it upsets you they will obviously tunnel you more, and there is nothing really wrong with that.
-
As a TTV, if you have TTV in your name you shouldn't complain about being tunneled.

Well, you said it yourself- the Entity needs survivors to feel some degree of hope. Wouldn't it be more hopeful to be somewhere a little brighter?
Besides, like I said, the gloomy aesthetic isn't a requirement for horror. Brightly lit places can be foreboding and scary even in real life- ever been in a hospital long after dark? Empty, sterile halls, with harsh and unnatural lights making it impossible to tell how long you've been there or what time it is unless you get to a window...
Or, to repeat my earlier example, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Parts of that movie do take place at night, but parts of it take place during the day, and they all contribute to that movie's masterful horror tone.
The name is just a name, it's okay if not everything in the game follows it to the letter. Not every character in Overwatch is from the actual organisation Overwatch, for example.
As for Trickster, it doesn't really matter why they decided to make him, what matters is if he's a horror character- and he is, very much so. Same as Skull Merchant.
@jesterkind said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3370150#Comment_3370150
That's not the argument at all. The argument is, divorced from the popularity of k-pop, Trickster is still very much a horror character. He would make the perfect subject for a horror movie, his story and design are clearly a part of the horror genre, and so... he's just a fine character for DBD. It doesn't matter that k-pop is popular enough for BHVR to have tried making a k-pop killer based on potential profit alone... because they succeeded. They made a good killer that fits into the game, at least in terms of aesthetic and story.
Same with Skull Merchant. I think it's a giant "citation needed" to say she's a sex-sells type of character, basically the only thing you could fairly connect to that is her walk cycle and that's pretty tenuous evidence, but even if she were- the end result is very clearly a horror-appropriate character. She's just not a grimy slasher, she plays off different horror concepts.
One thing I find so interesting about the argument that Trickster and now Skull Merchant don't fit in DBD because of how little they resemble the archetypal killer, someone like Trapper, is that nobody complained when we first got killers that are as far away from traditional slashers as Trapper is. Blight and Demogorgon represent just as big a change in aesthetic design as Trickster or Skull Merchant, but because they differed in a way that still bent towards the visually scary, nobody batted an eye.
DBD is a game that is meant to celebrate horror, the "horror hall of fame" as they call it. Eventually you run out of slashers, and you start addressing other kinds of horror- like monsters, or rich people hunting humans for sport, or the horror of someone using their social status to get away with torture and murder. Those things don't test this game's aesthetic and concept, they're just already a part of it.
The realm was created by the Entity, it doesn't make sense for it to look like a real world horror movie. It should look like a place you hope to escape, not hope to vibe at.
Trickser's design and story are more like a K-dating sim, and that may sound weird, but this generation and especially anime fans (not the same as K-pop but they can overlap) love the whole scary sadistic romance. I can tolerate Trickster tho, but Trickster + Skull Merchant? I feel like that's too much to ask lore wise.
I think there's a citation needed as to why she could go to the library get millions and get away with murdering other millionaires. I think by ignoring that part, you're setting your expectations too low as a player and consumer. She's not like a horror character at all to me, I mean her weapon, fair enough, but she still is based off more of a modded Fallout 4 raider, there was also I think a DC comic book character with almost the exact same visual design. I think MintSkull said she looked like a merc who had some military background.
You do keep saying there are more horrors than just dark and gloomy ones, well there's more to horror than just slashers too, also thrillers, and actions movies are not always horror. Trapper does seem like a very typical horror character to me tho... I think he's based on Jason. Blight is like this body horror zombie creature, and Demodog is from an actual horror series. He's like this alien creature that opens his head. He is pretty cute, but I can see how he's scary.
DBD already has rich people hunting humans sorta, Trapper. Trapper is also rich for a reason, he didn't just walk into a library and become a Gary Stu.
@ReikoMori said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/367639/dbd-has-an-aesthetic-problem
The easiest answer is that generally speaking while people miss the more "moody dark" aesthetic of old dbd they also forgot how god awful playing some of those maps were. Now part of the issue is we're not even completely playing the same game as back then as the game did get an overhaul. So things like fog are kinda not as prevalent even after using murky reagents and moon offerings got totally deprecated. Though the game is much better to play and in a lot of ways more universally stable.
As for individual character aesthetics I feel people are too attached to pigeon holing horror into a "dark moody" box. Like dbd isn't hurting for a metric butt ton of classic horror archetypes and licensed marketable horror icons. What this game has a distinct lack of is representation of more distinct horror subgenre archetypes. Grindhouse, campy, high scifi, cartoon, asylum style etc. I think killers like Trickster and Skull Merchant lean more towards a bit more of the niche and even oddball horror motifs. It's different and I think it fits well even if the execution isn't great with Skull Merchant.
As for having a murderous cyborg hunter. BHVR literally made an entirely separate asym game where that was literally every single 'Hunter' just in different flavors. It was called Death Garden and that game failed not once but twice sadly. So I don't blame them if they are perhaps a little less keen on a full commitment to running that idea in dbd.
Aesthetics in dbd to me haven't really changed a great deal other than having more of a focus on being either highly playable or highly stylized. Also don't be so down on daytime horror, plenty of scary stuff happens under the sun. Hell Texas Chainsaw Massacre is primarily a day time movie, hell even Halloween had Myers ganking folks at lunchtime and being creepy generally the from morning through evening. It's easy to fear the darkness but until we get a vampire killer the entire cast can work just as well in the light. Well maybe not Wraith.
I guess I see what you're saying from a gameplay POV, but I still think there is no excuse to have relaxing happy daytime maps. I think people give the whole "It's normal from the outside, but when you look closer, it's scarrrryyyy" take when talking about DBD. Idc if there's a tree of dead cows, Coldwind is just not what it once was. It's just like a normal farm now. Rotten Fields doesn't look so rotten.
They could have had a really cool scifi killer, they had a cyborg! They could have done so much with it, but we really did get more of a Fallout aesthetic.
I am familiar with Death Garden, and I'm sorry to say it but that failed Bhvr game actually nailed the horror aesthetic better than Skull Merchant. It's not as flashy, a little more creepy, you can't see the faces as well, making them appear less human, which does add to horror. I would compare Joey from the Legion to Death Garden more than Skull Merchant, honestly.
As I mentioned in the comment, the realm is created by the Entity. I wouldn't compare it to a horror movie that is supposed to take place in the real world, even if our boi Bubba is included, in the realm it makes more sense for him to be in the creepiest darkest version of his home. Halloween's daytime moments were there as a build up, the climax took part at night.

I can't disagree, but at least it doesn't feel like you're playing Huntress. If you're playing Skull Merchant, you could be playing Knight, or Clown, or Artist, or any zoning killer.

@jesterkind said:
I think the problem with this take is that it presents "horror aesthetic" as being one, incredibly restrictive thing: dark and gloomy and grainy. That obviously isn't the only aesthetic that a horror movie can have, so why should a game that's all about celebrating the horror genre stick to it obsessively without any room for variety? That's not to mention the gameplay requirements of a game like this which necessarily require certain elements be at least toned back-- while there's a lot of discussion about how the balance of The Game (the map, that is) changed in its update, it's undeniable that brightening that map up helped it immensely because now you can, y'know, actually see and navigate around it.
To pick another example, let's look at Coldwind. It's true that the maps used to be more straightforward in their atmosphere, very dark and foreboding, but they were also completely miserable to play on because you couldn't see anything, especially in the corn. So, they got brightened up, and now they function far better as gameplay maps - except for Cowshed, but that's balance, not aesthetic. Even with the new aesthetic, they didn't move away from horror in general, they moved to a different kind of horror; bright, glaring, sun-blasted, the new Coldwind maps look, fittingly, like certain portions of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I doubt anyone would put an asterisk next to that movie's horror atmosphere.
A similar thing applies to the killers. We do have traditional dark and gritty looking slasher characters, but we also have a few monsters and a few characters from other types of horror- like Trickster coming right out of a psychological horror movie, and Skull Merchant being an example of the rich hunting people for sport, a very classic horror archetype. That doesn't clash with DBD's aesthetic, it enhances it, allowing the game to show and represent more kinds of horror than just, Jason Voorhees number fifty-three.
TL;DR: Horror doesn't have to be visually dark and gloomy, so there's no reason DBD should have to be either.
I don't think you are wrong, but the game is still called "Dead By Daylight" and given the Entity feeds off fear, and hope, I think it would make sense to be as gloomy as possible. It's a nightmarish otherworldly place that's MADE for people to be hunted by killers. I see what you mean by balancing though, I just feel like literally making it daytime is too far.
Also Trickster was obviously just there to cater to the K-pop craze, not a huge fan of him, but hey, he does have a more interesting power than Skull Merchant.
@[Deleted User] said:
Why do you call SM a "Mary Sue"?
Putting the name of the game aside, there are plenty of good horror movies that take place (or mostly) during the day. Yes, it's a very common trope to have a night time setting due to our history wit the dark and the night but I'm happy for BHVR to explore more and break from common tropes.
She just became a millionaire who gets away with murder out of nowhere.

"Killer i don't like aesthetically" = "DBD has an aesthetic problem"
Kinda ironic saying that and posting pics of legion which are the most non-horror/anime/manga/fortnite/tiktok char in dbd
As I said, thought so for a while, but Skull Merchant solidified it.
Legion isn't that scary, and I admitted the game itself isn't that scary. Legion does have this gritty grungy feel to them though. I don't think they are very anime or Fortnite at all, I can admit Susie, and Susie only seems a little Tiktok. I don't think there's a lot wrong with the concept of Legion, they are an "edgy" gang of killers, it was gonna be added eventually, they are sort of in a way Scream rip offs. Scary? Nah, but to me it fit.
-
Of course I play Legion. The whole DLC is very metal, and dare I say edgy, yet Susie is stated to be shy, and she looks kinda girly, even with the more gungy aesthetic. I love everything about the Legion, especially Susie.
As for survivors I mainly play Cheryl, or Heather. Her lobby animation is just so relatable, and while she acts brave, Cheryl seems very timid and shy. I also adore Silent Hill, so there's that.
-
This is a good question. It could just be my imagination but I find I get more sound notifications against bots when I use overcharge, so I would say no, it does affect bots, but I'm sure someone else has a more technical answer. Mine is just a guess.
-
Try a pallet vacuum (there are tons of tutorials). You can also fake pallet drops so that when the killer gets tired of respecting you drop when they least expect it. If you're camping the pallets tho, the killer will likely respect, and you won't get the stun. :( Some killers just swing at every pallet and that makes the challenge easier, but most killers aren't like that. Maybe you can camp the really strong pallets, but I can't promise you won't go down for it, but for a challenge, maybe it's worth it.
