Software and Driver Update Questions

"we are unable to provide a spesfic list"

It would be nice if where able to know some sort of a list, otherwise people are just going to booted from the game and not really understand why or what to do.

Like RGB is included is this anything on my computer that has RGB such as my keyboard ?

does this include motherboard updates needing to be done?

Also will this have any effect on how we have to boot our system, I know some games such as LoL and Battlefield require the pc to load in some specific order, are we going to have to do that for Dbd?

Edit: if people cant get on after the date will they also then be told what is needing to be updated to be able to get into the game or will it just be a generic error message?

  • This is so vague and ominous.

"Important Developer Update" from the "Security Team" but gives us no real details or specifics to work with.

Yeah like if we need to do motherboard updates, what if its a older motherboard that has no updates are you just not allowed to play anymore? most people are not updating their motherboards especially people on lower end / older pcs.

  • There's probably some signed driver being exploited to gain ring 0 access bypassing EAC. So DBD is going to not launch if that driver is loaded. I doubt it will have anything to do with hardware like motherboards or keyboards. It would be the software and drivers.

  • With this, it means that software that you have on your system so things like software that controls RBG lighting will need to be updated, the older versions are vulnerable which cheats piggybacking off them (so to speak).

If you do not update, the game will not start and you will get a message telling you what needs to be updated / removed.

The list is extensive, depending on the software, manufacturer etc so we're unable to provide a full list.

Thank you for update! glad to hear we get notification of what will need to be updated / removed when trying to launch the game rather then trying to find the one thing it wants updated ❤️

  • Either this all goes smoothly or become an absolute nightmare.

we hope for the former, but prepare for the latter!

  • just because this list is big doesn’t mean you shouldn’t provide us with as much of it as you can. It is kind of absurd that you’re not going too, why even announce it at all with a vague list if your not willing to actually be helpful to the community?

I advise anyone right now to not make any purchases for this game until after the 30th because you do not know if you’re hardware will become obsolete. I believe the devs know this but won’t say anything.

  • So much for inspiring confidence, eh? 😥

Oh well. Gotta wait and see. I have a pre-built PC that does have software on it that came with said PC. I keep things updated wherever possible but I don't feel like tinkering with the BIOS if it comes to that. Praying that, indeed, it won't come to that.

I'm not really worried about this, but:

If you have the list, what prevents it from being provided? You don't have to do it in game, a simple searchable file online would do the trick.

this is what i mean, they already have a list. They should provide it.

I have 0 confidence in bhvr at this point.

I’m not going to update my BIOS if they require it, I’ll just uninstall the game and that’s it. Why should I have to solve their cheater problems? Plus I use win10 pro x64 and older nvidia drivers works well on it, new ones makes dbds fps 10 for some odd reason

nvidia has really been awful with their drivers of late. I will not be surprised if a lot of their drivers are blacklisted by eac. Drivers before may 2026 have massive security vulnerabilities in them.

my response was very tongue in cheek. Not meant to convey there will be issues at all.

The reason why the list would be problematic is that its every different manufacturer under the sun so we'd never be able to cover every possible one and every possible driver in a public list - there'd always be something left off, which is then more problematic.

Its very much about making sure your software is up to date as the drivers to these things are the ones likely to be flagged the most as they are the most vulnerable to attacks.

  • Oof.. Got a feeling all this might kill the ancient potato PCs I use to play this game way before we get any fancy pants graphics update. I guess I'll find out.

At least I'll still have my Switch to play on (for now), but it's not looking good for my ability to keep on playing this game.

I'm Just looking for clarification if possible on the thing I'm most worried about.

    - Will motherboard updates via USB drive be needed or anything in the BIOS? I think the though of needing to do this has some folks worried, I know it does me as I have no idea how to do that but the message mentions motherboards and BIOS.

I'm fine with updating programs / removing them if needed. but stummped when it comes to that sorta stuff.

Well, considering my motherboard has the latest BIOS available from the manufacturer it better not be what keeps me from loading the game after that date.

Yea, this. Even if I was comfortable flashing my motherboard BIOS, I am not able to do it.

Most likely they do not wish to share any extensive but specific lists so the cheating community does not know exactly what's being looked at and work around it accordingly. Same reason they ban in giant waves periodically. That's my guess.

Pretty funny how this game still does not have server side checks for impossible actions. Cheaters can add haste, teleport, bypass game rules like cool downs with no challenge from the server. It literally accepts anything the client sends. You could not pull this off in any modern PVP game.

Yeah, what was the point of servers if things like this can't be flagged for investigation?

Main point of them was to make matchmaking more consistent as having killer as host could cause really bad latency issues.

  • Damn, even BIOS needs to be updated

It was a double edge sword. While it made the killer roll less abusive when it comes to introducing lag it also forced some regions to connect to servers very far from them to actually play. Even with the servers, complants about lag and lag switching haven't stopped and IPs for players were still leaked.

  • Hey, thank God there is actual effort combatting cheats and that's all I can ask for. Balance and content be damned, if there are no hackers, I could never complain again

we will never be rid of cheaters. Even the games with the strictest anti-cheats and with proper server-side validation suffer. They infest every game. Even cozy games like phasmophobia have cheaters man. Don’t get your hopes up.

    AMEN to THAT!

  • There was a recent vulnerability in MSI Center, so if you have an outdated version, you should update it or uninstall it. This should be done not just to play DBD, but for the overall security of your PC.

A lot of software have vulnerabilities depending on the version. Here are just some of the likely programs on the list:
Asus Armoury Crate, Gigabyte App Center, Ryzen Master, MSI Afterburner, HWInfo, CPUz, GPUz, Intel PresentMon, and Corsair iCue. Also, utilities that come on your computer from HP, Lenovo, and Dell, such as Alienware Command Center.
I doubt anyone would have to update their BIOS, it's just software that has permissions to update the BIOS that is a potential issue.

If you look something up on https://www.cve.org/ and it's listed, it may need to be updated.

Their Partner here is probably EAC. A lot of people say they are using the "free version," but it's likely BHVR is still paying for support, there just isn't a license fee anymore.

Here's an example of the pop up you could get. If you do, just update it or uninstall the software. Some other games have the same checks.
