I hope DBD won't turn into fortnite.

Often on the internet I see demand of franchises/characters such as Chainsawman, Hatsune Miku or more anime show characters to be implemented into the fog.

Look, I am all for creative ways to include new characters into DBD, but I personally just don't think those franchises belong in the fog. I hope we get characters that actually fit the theme of horror.

I understand we have Kaneki, which to me is the only exception because I can justify him being scary with his Kagune, and his lore in the fog makes sense somewhat.

I just really don't want BHVR to put out skins and characters just for the sake of being cool, and then lose their horror element.

  • Anime can be horror, horror belongs in DBD. Hatsune Miku I get, but Chainsaw Man is as horror as Saw or Terrifier; it being animated doesn't change that. A more fitting example would be something like the R6 Siege collab or if we were to be very pedantic even Tomb Raider or Witcher that can be seen as scary situations if we were in them but aren't explicitly horror media.

Tomb raider has always been horror adjacent, look at tomb raider 1's flesh factory atlantis and the likes of 2013's prequel (the one she was taken from lore wise). I mean it comes with the territory of tombs too lol

Anime is definitely horror, they should explore it more.

The only Tomb Raider I've played is the 2013 one and I saw a bit of one from years ago that was on the Wii, I do think she belongs even if I would rather her as a legendary than full character, it just still feels weird to me seeing her run from Freddy Kruger in space when I still associate her with the likes of Uncharted so that's probably bias on my part.

I do need to see this flesh factory now…

Honestly, the part of "only Horror deserves to be in DBD" died when Nicolas Cage was added. At this point basically everything can end up in DBD.

Does not mean that I want that, but people saying that things are not "horror" enough just has no basis anymore.

the level is named atlantis, it might not look scary coz its old graphics but back in the day it was pretty scary LOL

  • There is horror anime they're just not as popular or well known like shiki, another, higurashi, corpse party, etc.

  • We already have cosmetic collections with Attack on Titan and we have a few with bands. We're getting scooby doo. DBD is already past the point of becoming fortnite.

  • Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world, it has way more players than DBD. They must be doing something right. Imo, DBD has a problem with it's playerbase being all veterans. It's working for now. But will DBD really last like that? I think they understood that even though Tokyo Ghoul isn't directly horror, it's still a franchise that would bring in new players.

if it was someone who had never been in a horror movie before I'd understand but Cage has, regardless of how good or bad those movies are (Wicker Man remake…)

Tomb Raider is more dark fantasy than "horror adjacent". If Tomb Raider is "horror adjacent" then so is Harry Potter. And I have a feeling the DBD community would hate Harry Potter being added to DBD.

AoT and Tokyo Ghoul are both still horror, even though I disliked AoT there was still parts that were genuinely terrifying. Metal bands have been linked with horror for a while through their imagery and lyrics. And Scooby Doo may be children's "horror" but it still deserves representation in the game, same with the others I talked about. All but TG work best as cosmetics though

Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy, not horror. Meaning it's dark, but it's not scary or horror.

  • Chainsaw Man is definitely horror enough for DBD, but honestly, I think after how well Dungeons & Dragons was integrated… I'd be open to BHVR pulling more from things that aren't explicitly horror, up to a point.

They can clearly translate things well, if something has horror to be teased out I think this studio can do it.

There's still a line, of course, but I think it's further back after that demonstration.

  • I don't know why this sentiment only comes up for eastern media.

Where are all these complaints about Nicolas Cage and Wesker?

  • Dbd is already the fortnite of asym horror.

We will get more and more licenses and collabs softening the line what goes and what doesn't. And thats okay for our silly tag game.

I wouldnt say people see it not being a horror when survivor was added like we had feng skins that are more controversial in this game then nick cage, with survivor its more open I would say as option but what more people look at is killer like imagine if trickster threw squeaking chickens instead of knifes that would be end for me.

I think people (some) stop seeing it as horror when anime things got added even the fact that in anime theres lot more horror sometimes or horendus things then in some horror movies but opinions are different o this.

i’m fine with anime being DBD just as long as it fits the tone of the game that’s why I don’t really have too much of a problem, Tokyo ghoul being in it and why have strongly advocated for characters like Dio and Kira from JoJos bizarre adventure, and now Alucard now that I finally started watching Hellsing and oh my why didn’t I watch this sooner. But but yeah I’m fine with anime in DBD just as long as it’s not a massive tonal shift for the game.

No. A lot of you are just hypocrites. Tomb Raider is not horror. That’s fact. I was seven playing Tomb Raider on my PS1 because ITS NOT HORROR. And here comes the “horror adjacent” nonsense which is just trying to mask your hypocrisy.

I assure you there was pushback against Cage. It just got drowned out because of the meme-value that came with Nicolas Cage.

Wesker I think gets a pass 'cause he's from a franchise that definitely has its roots in horror.

Are you okay? Coz I'm pretty sure:

    -Gore
    -Horrifying deaths
    -Jumpscares (traps etc)
    -Paranormal
-Mutants (TR3 antartica) which literally references John Carpenters The Thing which shocking I know… IS A HORROR FILM

Which is just scratching the surface, someone doesn't know what they are talking about tbh LMFAO.

dark fantasy can be horror too, TG has body horror and cannibalism, along with psychological with Kaneki trying to balance remaining as human as possible while forced to be a half-Ghoul, which is especially present in how DBD integrated him.

  • Can we get Sam and Dean Winchester from supernatural? I think they'd fit pretty well in dbd

Chainsawman is a bit of a personal one for me, given it's my own favorite anime show and I've not liked anything else since it's release. It just doesn't make sense for Reze to be chased around trials you know? Or even Denji, canonically they are super over powered compared to the settings in the fog. Makima wouldn't be suitable as a killer either, she doesn't go out of her way to target randoms in her lore, she doesn't have that kind of bloodlust.

I guess I should've worded it better, it's not about horror and the scare factor, but rather whether or not the setting fits DBD, even when manipulated to fit, I wouldn't want it to feel forced.

I agree with this somewhat, for AoT I don't mind, given that they are skins for the already existing characters, plus with the whole titans eating civilians thing, it fits. The same goes to Scooby Doo which if I remember correctly was announced during the anniversary live, so I count that as just a silly outfit to thank and celebrate that, not to mention Scooby Doo is kinda horror(?) but more on the silly side, don't quote me on this my knowledge of Scooby Doo is a group of people investigating the supernatural, which to me is a fun skin collection idea.

So maybe I stand corrected here, I don't mind silly/cute/cosplay skins to an extent, but I don't want to see silly characters that don't fit the theme being implemented into the game as a playable character.

Just because something brings in new players doesn't mean it should be done. I know I know, Fortnite is incredibly popular and has a big player base constantly, but it doesn't have what DBD has, to me anyway, and that's a soul. Fortnite is different from DBD, one is a battle royale game and the other a horror asymmetrical game.

Sure, Fortnite is doing something right selling goofy emotes and any character skin under the sun as long as they can get a hold of licensing, but that doesn't mean DBD can, it simply does not fit the fog.

I'll be honest I know nothing outside of the basic premise for Chainsaw Man but I think it could be cool in theory, how they could make it work while being faithful I don't know or can't speak on because all I know is the name Denji

  • If the skins/characters have authentic dbd style textures instead of looking like cheap ebay cosplays, you'd even take a detective conan skin for dwight, shorts and bowtie included.

I think its just harder to translate human designs, especially faces from animes into dbd's style. I think for example A Denji-skin for hillbilly would be harder to make it look like "yup thats denji" (remember quentin?) than creating a chainsawman model from scratch to make it look like "dbd chainsawman".

As for what IP to actually crossover with? Well if the character fits it doesnt have to be a strictly horror IP.
