Thank you BHVR for the worst aniversary event ever
seriously no one likes the larp as a cannibal event. What was wrong with the masquerade and Tryksz? Was this a chat gpt ai idea because I cant imagine why you would break tradition on your 10th aniversary for the most universally hated event youve ever made.
Comments
As long as people keep playing the game, BHVR probably doesn't care. Not the people that actually make the decisions, anyway. They have no real reason to actually improve.
I don't think it looks good if a bunch of youtubers, the biggest youtubers, are saying how awful the balance of this event is. I mean like, imagine you never played dbd before and watched one of those videos, you probably wouldn't play dbd.
Why didnt those Youtubers talk about the past Anniversary Events being unbalanced?
I think the ones I watch did but I watch most of the both side creators like otz/scott/hens/mint so cant speak for all. Just at least the others had something for both sides not killer gets poison and survivors get invincibility, invisibility, haste, map wide heal, endurance, elusive. Unbreakable pallets, rebuildable pallets. Ect.
Oh, I know that Otz also did a video. And it will probably be posted here, because it is SO IMPORTANT to have another Thread about the same topic.
The reality is that none of the Content Creators said anything about the unbalanced Anniversary Events before, because they were killer-sided. And the Forums also did not really care. For some reason "You dont have to play the event" and "They are not supposed to be balanced" is only a thing when the "right" side gets the good stuff.
At this point I am wondering if this keeps up until the last day of the event.
Ive just been normal queing. I did for last years. They just cant get a event fun for both apparently it always has to be such a shift. "Survivors get fragile pallets. Killers get instadown on command,tp hook, and tp pallet break" then this year. See above lol poison vs 10 survivor effects. (Though the poison if I play billy i see the effectiveness. Just poison them and free insta down). Only thing that sucks this one is the cake nerf. I have all characters at least p6 with like 3 p100s so bp is a meme but I still just like to see big cake number. And with most offerings being bad I run it to help the less fortunate to catch up to me hopefully eventually.
The thing is, the poison is not even bad. It guarantees a Hit, there is no way the Survivor can avoid being hit after being slowed down so much. It is just boring. But then again, Remote Pallet Breaks or Exposed were also not really exciting, but at this point Survivors got garbage, so Killer Mains did not care for their abilities being boring.
Yeah I mean if its supposed to be unbalanced from the way last and this year's are it woulda been more fun probably to just give both sides their insane stuff. Killers get remote hooks and pallet breaks. Survivors get all the stuff from this one. Just embrace the chaos
I've actually enjoyed this event.... More than I thought I was going into it. Love the BP. Yeah occasionally you get the sweaty killer (or team though I've been Playing mostly survivor). I think Bubba def needs kill switched. I mean I had one poison and easy down with he chainsaw. Then post EZ. Lol. I hope his life gets better but for the most part it's been fun and epic BP.
I don’t like the event either, but the player count is at a historic high right now. Despite the seemingly widespread dislike of the event, more people than ever are playing the game, so can anyone explain why BHVR would do anything differently?
Cuz they were fun as hell, both sides got really fun stuff. Also making this excuse is just in bad faith like… and? Does that change how poorly balanced this anni game mode is?
In terms of unbalanced we didnt have such unbalanced event in past, none was so one sided as this one.
Killers poison isnt bad but its just one effect compare to what survivor gets and it lasts to 2 gens left then you will loose it on 1 gen left or in endgame while survivors still keep cakes they had took before it and can get effects like endurence. Poison mostly works with instadown killers because m1 hits are totaly nullyfied by some effects survivors get like global heal.
Even top tier killers can get overwhelmed by survivors strongest effect with invincibility plus unbreakable pallets that can be vaulted and survivors can rebuild any pallet back, this effect has no equel basicaly guarantee old dh with no drawbacks (cooldown, one less perk in slot, exhaustion addons and perks working on it) and global ablity that gives survivors ability to create basicaly infinites.
There was no event like this in past even when they were shifted more to killer like halloween one two years ago etc.
Most survivored one was before this crap the bloodmoon with first blood gens where single gen was done in 40 seconds and kiler couldnt regress it or block it, bloodpumps spawned super close to blood gens and hooks spawns were totaly messed by blood pumps spawn some were even shifted sideways so you couldnt even hook on them like one in top floor on rpd.
For anyone else who strugles as killer and you dont want to get crap on just because you picked weaker killer the solution is this, grab strong killer who has good power in this mode which is great in general and combines well with poison like billy, ghoul and play them and you will get results becaues your character isnt some weak pig who cant take it.
For the strongest effect the invincibility from cakes I heard range attacks bypass them its certainly bug but if it works atleast you have some solution to this crap untill they fix it.
I like the concept but the execution is meh, I don't really enjoy it from either side. As survivor I'm just playing Plate up! For the most broken buffs imaginable and as killer I get to be Plague/Clown. It's not particularly inspired although I will say I like the banquet tile and that looks nice.
I think the reason for the much larger outcry is because of the power gap. In the masquerade, the main things killers got were remote break, which was very strong, and remote hooks, which was a really nice time savor. If I remember correctly, survivors got the party pallets and the ability to block windows. The remote hooks didn’t help in chase, so it’s basically remote breaks vs brittle pallets and block windows in chases. This is still in the killers favor, but at least the survivors end didn’t feel like an afterthought. I also enjoyed the mind games with the party pallets too, for both sides imo. However, for this event survivors get a plethora of busted abilities. Global heals, UNBREAKABLE pallets, party pallets that will become regular pallets during the dessert, dead hard on crack, invisibility, and budget sprint burst. Killers get a side graded clown bottle. The power gap is much larger than it ever was for the masquerade. When one side literally feels forgotten, that’s when it becomes a problem.
Because god forbid we have a HORROR element in a HORROR game, right? Talk for yourself, because I like the whole cannibal theme and I'm sure many other players like it too. The community has asked for YEARS for the devs to bring more horror to DbD, and this is one of the few times they actually did it. The problem of this event is on the gameplay mechanics, not at all on the theme and aesthetics.
Just a reminder: the MAIN inspiration for DbD was a movie about cannibals (Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That's why killers place survivors in meat hooks, because Leatherface does it in the movie)! Two killers are cannibals (The Hag and, look at that, THE CANNIBAL), and other four have moris where they either eat survivors, part of them or do something akin to it (The Unknown, Dracula, Demogorgon and the Dredge). Cannibalism has always been very on-theme for DbD and people always enjoyed it.
We already had three anniversary events with the Twisted Masquerade. DbD always changed the anniversary's theme after every 3 years, so it didn't get too repetitive. Plus, this is the 10th year anniversary, OF COURSE it needed to be different from everything so far. Plus, a cannibal cult is far more horror-themed and far better for the game than a colorful masquerade ball with a funny-looking lady with a Harley Quinn voice.
so why are the SURVIVORS the cannibals? Why are the killers not the ones eating feet hands and eyes?
Also there were 4 twisted masquerades 2022-2025 learn to count. the 5 first aniversary events mostly gave out free items and bp then moved to crown pillars that gave the crown halo cosmetics. There was no particular THEME till the masquerade.
How many horror movies have you seen where the cannibals are the good guys/final girls? Name one or two movies Ill wait. Till then this event is still a dumpster fire from design to execution.
The whataboutism doesn't work here because at least two of the mentioned content creators actually DID comment on Anniversary events being problematic and unbalanced before.
https://youtu.be/cbvQs46aLE8?si=8je-wMdPpWFJ9oEMAlso, "the forums did not really care"? Based on what? Because I remember tons of complaints showing up on the forums back then just like they always do. Just because there wasnt'a consensus, which almost never happens in this very divided community, it doesn't mean people didn't care.
I agree the poison is not bad, but it's still a bit weak in comparison to all the stuff survivors have at once, some of them triggering globally, and there are situations where it isn't that useful due to it having a little delay until you actually have value from it. A very mobile killer can certainly make it work everytime, but an m1 killer? One of the morsel abilities give survivors a free speed boost. By the time the poison triggers, they will already be far away, and sometimes it's not even worth chasing them after such speed boost. So it's basically an ability that can be insanely strong consistently on already very strong killers and far less on the weaker ones.
Plus, remote pallet breaks where still an unique ability unlike any killer power just like survivors creating pallets (before a perk for it was made) and blocking windows, not to mention it was one of the many abilities killers had. All that together was still better than poison, which was the ONLY ability killers got this time and is basically a stronger clown bottle. Finally, global effects in that event affeced both killers and survivors, and one of them was an instaheal, not everything survivors got was "garbage".
Either way, it's clear those events where killer sided and people DID talk about it, as much as you claim they didn't. But this one is getting a particularly heavy backlash because the imbalance is far more obvious and blatant now. On the Twisted Masquerade there was at least an intention of giving matching sets of abilities to killers and survivors: global effects affected both and the number of activated abilities was equal or similar, the problem was that the killer abilities ended up being stronger while the survivor abilities where situational… and one of them straight up countered one of the survivor's abilities. Still, there was enough for each side to feel they were playing a different game than normal with new resources and abilities available.
That was something the devs usually atempt in events, give an equal or similar number of benefits to both sides. This 10th Anniversary completely broke it. Survivors are the only ones benefited by global effects except for the portals, but they HUGELY favor survivors anyway. Survivors get 9 different abilities divided in 3 sets that are randomized each game, killers get ONE ability that is the same every game. Survivors' abilities are hard to keep track of and sometimes unpredictable, the killer ability is a projectile that needs to be dodged. That is a HUGE disparity and it should be very obvious one side was getting a lot while the other was getting barely anything, the devs could easily have predicted it was hugely unbalanced and killer players wouldn't like that.
So your complaint is that they made a different character do horror stuff this time? You know that the heroes/victims of a story being corrupted is doing messed up stuff to survive is a trope in horror, right? Oooohh, so terrible, a video game character on a horror game game with a literal multiverse where characters have multiple versions of themselves has a temporary game mode where you can play as a cult instead of just the victim. This is a NON-ISSUE, dude. You are complaining because the ice cream didn't come on a flavor you particularly like, but your tastes aren't everone else's. In case you haven't realized, most people don't care about that at all. If anything, survivors being the ones having to do horrifying stuff now is a nice twist. Plus, there are multiple of them, a killer can't represent a cult alone.
That was edgy, but isn't making you look any mature, my guy. If anything, it makes your point even WORSE. Four years of events of the same theme and aesthetic and similar abilities just shows the theme was overused as hell and needed to change.
Do you realize you straight up described a theme that was a change from the initial anniversaries? The THREE first anniversary events didn't have a theme, the 4th and 5th did with their consistent aesthetic that went for items and cosmetics, and the crowns where a part of it. Then the devs changed it to shift things up, they are shifting it again now just like they had already anounced they would do.
There is a bunch where the protagonist or other characters, initially not the villains, is tricked, forced or lead to commit cannibalism. They are either horrified or become the villain, sometimes both.
That's the whole theme of the single most iconic cannibal character in all of fiction, Hannibal Lecter. In Hannibal Rising, he becomes a cannibal after being forced into it the first time. In most of the movie he is an antihero hunting the monster who wronged him, but eventually he turns himself into the monster he is famously known as. In multiple media, Hannibal is a guy who who tricks other people into commiting cannibalism all the time with the meals he prepares for them, and both in the "Hannibal" movie and the TV show he forces someone to eat. In one of the cases, it was the main hero, Will Graham, who slowly starts becoming sorta evil too.
That is quite a trope in fiction. Sweeney Todd has it happening by a lot, The TWD Telltale game has it too. It literally has been a trope since Shakespeare.
In Resident Evil VII, the TCM-inspired villains try to force-feed the main character. In the movie Ravenous, the main character does it to survive. The same thing happens in the Netflix movie The Platform and the 2009 movie Hunger.
Finally, there are those who are not exactly human to be considered cannibals, but fall into the same trope of the main character starting to eat people, like the horror comedy Revenant or Jennifer's Body.
"Oh, but they are not cannibals, most of them are forced into it!"
Read the flavor text of all of the rewards in the event. It heavily implies the survivors are being forced into it by the Black Talon and the Entity and have no choice. Again, characters being lead to commit heinous stuff is very common in horror. That's an important part of Saw's premise.
Look at any of the promotional art of the survivors for this event. Do any of them look forced? Other than being in the entities realm none of the survivors display traits of fear. They are wearing a mask yes but they are holding a drinking glass or leaning over a table with corpse parts on it. They look bored/larping as high society. Do any of them look forced? No.
if its edgy to crrect your mistake ill be edgy my guy. If anything proving you wrong about the number of events shows me you dont remember your dbd history, also tells me you cant handle being told your wrong if it "makes my point worse". If anything 4 years of a solid theme that made more sense than the black talen throwing a dinner party (dont worry I'll get to that.)
Since you are too lazy to google I did it for you. Huh, whats that highlighted by google? No Themes? Wow. Its so edgy being right.
Also there is a big difference between a protaganist and antagonist just like theres a difference to choose to be a cannibal and being forced to consume flesh.
Hannibal is not a hero he is a villian. Sweeny todd is not a hero, he kills people and has there bodies made into pies where they were fed to the public. Not heroic. IN TWD it is discovered (the telltale game) Without knowing, Lee's group is invited to the farm and fed "dinner," unknowingly eating human flesh. Not by choice. In RE once again they are trying to FORCE it on some one else. Not a choice. Ravenous and the platform I had to look up both and the only one I can say congrats you might have found one is ravenous where the main character does it twice. The platform however is another instance of forced cannibalism by another person in the movie. Revenant is about a vampires. They drink blood and it is a form of cannibalism but a vampire isnt exactly human anymore are they? And Jennifers body is a demonic possession. A demon eating people is not exactly cannibalism either.
After reading the flavor text of the aniversary items btw all it says is a thankyou from the dbd devs for 10 years of dbd. Theres no lore anything in this years batch of items. If you mean the cosmetics, the only three survivor items that seem to say anything about the event are the masks that talk about how afraid they are. So now we have conflicting feelings from the description of three masks and promotional art which brings me to my final point.
WHY does the entity need a human cult based in the mortal world where Taurie Cain was from, to host any sort of banquet? We already know the enitity takes people from different worlds and timelines, it doesnt work with anyone or anything else. It takes what it thinks will intrest it or feed it. It doesnt need humans to do anything in its realm for it. Thats why It doesnt work when Trykz was actually created by the entity in the lore for just this reason. The entity doesnt care about the Black Talon Cult. They worship the entity but have no clue how to access its realm. Thats why Taurie was a sacrifice to it in her lore. They tried to make a connection but the entity just wanted Taurie for her ability to suffer more than the average person.
Yes, they DO! Are you going to pretend you're not seeing it now? They straight up look scared. Claudette's mask in the art is made to reflect that expression, but in Kate's case it's not even the mask: her mouth open, the hand on Dwight's shoulder, does that look like someone who is happy about the whole situation? They are not doing it willingly. And trying to claim that is a BORED expression, on an horror-theme image, is just funny. You are literally LOOKING straight at very obvious stuff and claiming they are something else.
You are not just correcting. First, you went angrily saying "learn to count", which is edgy teen behaviour. Nitpicking a small number mistake and making a big deal out of it to turn into a petty insult is edgy and immature, simply as that. Now you are doubling down on it, nitpicking harder and trying to claim I "can't handle" something when you literally started with petty insults here. The fact that you are focusing on something that changes NOTHING about my point or the whole subject just tells me you don't have anything better to say.
So you get called edgy and your response is talking like a duke nukem meme? Sure… Dude, if you have to CLAIM you're right instead of showing it, you're probably wrong, just saying it. You typed a prompt to try to lead Google AI into saying what you needed, it DID NOT say there is no theme and yet you are claiming it did. It says it FOCUSED on something else instead of a NARRATIVE DRIVEN theme, not the same. And you know it, but you are being dishonest just like every troll in this forum.
On all the rest you are literally just missing or ignoring the point entirely
On Hannibal Rising he starts as the victim, then becomes an antihero, and then a monster in the end but not even the villain of his own story. Plus, older Hannibal tricks people into cannibalism, people who aren't villains like him.
Which was literally my point. How clever of you to notice that. I never claimed he was a hero, I claimed people being tricked or forced into cannibalism is a trope in horror, you straight up admited to that now.
Which was my point. Are you even paying attention? They were unwillingly lead to cannibalism. MY WHOLE POINT IS THERE WASNT A CHOICE, MY GUY! Just like in the survivor's case!
You are literally agreeing with every point I already made while pretending you're countering them. Keep going. Both Revenant and Jennifer's Body include people who started as the "hero" of the story but then become human-looking man-eating monsters. It still falls into the trope.
[Sigh]. Okay, I will repeat myself: read the flavor text of all of the REWARDS in the event. I said REWARDS, not items. You are misunderstanding or ignoring everything I said. You are doing it on purpose, right?
Yeah, they are afraid because they DON'T WANT TO BE THERE. Other people are eating and they are afraid and unwilling to eat it themselves. Plus, one banner straight up says there is NO CHOICE but to indulge, and the entity's limbs are surrounding Dwight in the art.
Why do you assume it NEEDS it? The cult might as well be doing it by their initiative and the entity is feeding on their dread and hope as always. We will only know EXACTLY what is happening when the new tome's lore comes, but things happening in the fog don't contradict the entity in any way. Hell, your "final point" could be equally said about most if not all other events,. Do you realize that even though the entity doesn't WORK with people, she still has killers doing their bidding to feed off the trials, right? The same thing that applies to the Legion might as well apply to a cult. The vast majority of playable characters in this game are or were HUMANS at some point too, so your "final point" makes no sense whatsoever.
Remind me then, according to what lore entry? Because as far as I remember, Trykz origin was never confirmed, and some of the canon speculation about her was about her coming from a world outside of the entity's realm, which means she could have been a human who ended up in the Entity's realm and learned how to get some control over it.
And yet other arms of the Black Vale are already in the realms. Saku literally hunts them down there in her lore.
For someone who likes to make a big deal of small mistakes, you surely miss a lot. I assume you're just ragebaiting, but whatever, I don't care.
On the other hand, an overwatch content creator flamed dbd a few weeks ago for no reason. People will always hate.
He didnt flame it for no reason a super chater mentioned dbd was having its 10th aniversary and he said "That game has be haunting people for 10 years" Then said it wasnt for him. It was the dbd community that made it a bigger deal as always
As far as i know he ranted for a while how it was the most toxic game ever and even made a follow-up video. My guy plays overwatch by the way, that game is not toxic at all. /s I don't start drawing a comparison to mobas and cs.
He only did a follow up after a streamer (sorry balrog I forgot not to drop youtube names) used his picture in a thumbnail with the words "entitled" and never played his video
In times like these we must consider Cote's advice. Play something else. Really good advice rn
Where’d this larp term come from? I know what it means, yet it’s gained popularity out of nowhere.
Is it another 4chan word?
A few big names used his name and picture, i don't think that's really a reason to make a specific follow-up.
And the content creator you mentioned who answered to him usually talks about topics while citing sources in the video description. There is no need to actually look at the source itself while talking about it.
And the entitlement mentioned in the reaction clearly does not refer to the original content creator.
So yeah, in conclusion, the original content creator had no point at first except for personal dislike for dbd. In his second video the original content creator did not have a point either, because he did simply not understand that he was not the main topic of the reaction.
yeeeeaaaahhh
it comes from the before times
Nothing was wrong with Twisted Masquarade, that's why this Event was going for 5 years. I'm glad we got a fresh new Theme.
The theme of the event is not the problem. I think k it's perfectly fine. The twisted masquerade just felt phoned in and lazy the past two years anyway. I think the art and cosmetics for the new theme are pretty cool.
The problems are with the gameplay. Hopefully they work on making it a bit more balanced if they keep the same theme for next year.
Ridicoulus and they don´t care.
Yeah, the poison is highly effective, really (on certain of killers, anyway). For example, Bubbas and killers with insta-downs are wrecking people in this event. But like you said, it's just boring AF; I have no real desire to play killer this time at all even though I know I could win. I'd rather lose having fun than win a snoozefest.
Heck, I don't even mind dying as much as a surv in this event because there are a bunch of new mechanics to just goof around with.
I do disagree that no creators talked about past event's being imbalanced, though. A lot of people talked about how imbalanced the remote hooks/pallet breaks were, at least among the creators I follow.
"the current rate is slightly higher than for last year's Event"
Ignoring the massive spike in players showing this is the most successful anniversary event in history. I gotta ask, what do you want from an event? Same garbage as the halloween one where the payoff from interacting with it is so garbage that it's not worth doing anything with?
PLEASE don't mention Tryks. 😭 They really thought the game needed a "we have Harley Quinn at home" quirky girl. I prefer the theme of this event to whatever she was. But the execution is a lot less fun for sure. The roulette style felt like it kept the ball rolling (regardless of the abilities themselves). The table mechanic doesn't do much to compensate for the effort required to pop it off. While the "busted" (don't agree) abilities seem enticing, they're not really so different from a flashlight squad that falls apart without an undisturbed gen jockey. I would've preferred to see something that requires a more balanced interaction versus something that encourages griefing and sweat.
Am I the only one who really disliked Tryks? Like she was so annoying 😭
I'm fine with them switching up the theming of the events, but this one was executed horribly.
No, you are not the only one. I find it funny how i remember tons of people saying that "pls just mute Tryks she is so annoying" or "pls delete Tryks for next events" and now of all sudden everyone is like "Why did they remove Tryks?? Bring her back!!".
Couldn't stand her lol
She kept inviting me to come ‘roast a crow’
>:(
