As far as i know he ranted for a while how it was the most toxic game ever and even made a follow-up video. My guy plays overwatch by the way, that game is not toxic at all. /s I don't start drawing a comparison to mobas and cs.

He only did a follow up after a streamer (sorry balrog I forgot not to drop youtube names) used his picture in a thumbnail with the words "entitled" and never played his video

  • He didnt flame it for no reason a super chater mentioned dbd was having its 10th aniversary and he said "That game has be haunting people for 10 years" Then said it wasnt for him. It was the dbd community that made it a bigger deal as always

So your complaint is that they made a different character do horror stuff this time? You know that the heroes/victims of a story being corrupted is doing messed up stuff to survive is a trope in horror, right? Oooohh, so terrible, a video game character on a horror game game with a literal multiverse where characters have multiple versions of themselves has a temporary game mode where you can play as a cult instead of just the victim. This is a NON-ISSUE, dude. You are complaining because the ice cream didn't come on a flavor you particularly like, but your tastes aren't everone else's. In case you haven't realized, most people don't care about that at all. If anything, survivors being the ones having to do horrifying stuff now is a nice twist. Plus, there are multiple of them, a killer can't represent a cult alone.

Also there were 4 twisted masquerades 2022-2025 learn to count.

That was edgy, but isn't making you look any mature, my guy. If anything, it makes your point even WORSE. Four years of events of the same theme and aesthetic and similar abilities just shows the theme was overused as hell and needed to change.

the 5 first aniversary events mostly gave out free items and bp then moved to crown pillars that gave the crown halo cosmetics. There was no particular THEME till the masquerade.

Do you realize you straight up described a theme that was a change from the initial anniversaries? The THREE first anniversary events didn't have a theme, the 4th and 5th did with their consistent aesthetic that went for items and cosmetics, and the crowns where a part of it. Then the devs changed it to shift things up, they are shifting it again now just like they had already anounced they would do.

How many horror movies have you seen where the cannibals are the good guys/final girls?

There is a bunch where the protagonist or other characters, initially not the villains, is tricked, forced or lead to commit cannibalism. They are either horrified or become the villain, sometimes both.

That's the whole theme of the single most iconic cannibal character in all of fiction, Hannibal Lecter. In Hannibal Rising, he becomes a cannibal after being forced into it the first time. In most of the movie he is an antihero hunting the monster who wronged him, but eventually he turns himself into the monster he is famously known as. In multiple media, Hannibal is a guy who who tricks other people into commiting cannibalism all the time with the meals he prepares for them, and both in the "Hannibal" movie and the TV show he forces someone to eat. In one of the cases, it was the main hero, Will Graham, who slowly starts becoming sorta evil too.

That is quite a trope in fiction. Sweeney Todd has it happening by a lot, The TWD Telltale game has it too. It literally has been a trope since Shakespeare.

In Resident Evil VII, the TCM-inspired villains try to force-feed the main character. In the movie Ravenous, the main character does it to survive. The same thing happens in the Netflix movie The Platform and the 2009 movie Hunger.

Finally, there are those who are not exactly human to be considered cannibals, but fall into the same trope of the main character starting to eat people, like the horror comedy Revenant or Jennifer's Body.

"Oh, but they are not cannibals, most of them are forced into it!"

Read the flavor text of all of the rewards in the event. It heavily implies the survivors are being forced into it by the Black Talon and the Entity and have no choice. Again, characters being lead to commit heinous stuff is very common in horror. That's an important part of Saw's premise.

Look at any of the promotional art of the survivors for this event. Do any of them look forced? Other than being in the entities realm none of the survivors display traits of fear. They are wearing a mask yes but they are holding a drinking glass or leaning over a table with corpse parts on it. They look bored/larping as high society. Do any of them look forced? No.

    canibal survivors.png

if its edgy to crrect your mistake ill be edgy my guy. If anything proving you wrong about the number of events shows me you dont remember your dbd history, also tells me you cant handle being told your wrong if it "makes my point worse". If anything 4 years of a solid theme that made more sense than the black talen throwing a dinner party (dont worry I'll get to that.)

    dbdtheme.png

Since you are too lazy to google I did it for you. Huh, whats that highlighted by google? No Themes? Wow. Its so edgy being right.

Also there is a big difference between a protaganist and antagonist just like theres a difference to choose to be a cannibal and being forced to consume flesh.

Hannibal is not a hero he is a villian. Sweeny todd is not a hero, he kills people and has there bodies made into pies where they were fed to the public. Not heroic. IN TWD it is discovered (the telltale game) Without knowing, Lee's group is invited to the farm and fed "dinner," unknowingly eating human flesh. Not by choice. In RE once again they are trying to FORCE it on some one else. Not a choice. Ravenous and the platform I had to look up both and the only one I can say congrats you might have found one is ravenous where the main character does it twice. The platform however is another instance of forced cannibalism by another person in the movie. Revenant is about a vampires. They drink blood and it is a form of cannibalism but a vampire isnt exactly human anymore are they? And Jennifers body is a demonic possession. A demon eating people is not exactly cannibalism either.

After reading the flavor text of the aniversary items btw all it says is a thankyou from the dbd devs for 10 years of dbd. Theres no lore anything in this years batch of items. If you mean the cosmetics, the only three survivor items that seem to say anything about the event are the masks that talk about how afraid they are. So now we have conflicting feelings from the description of three masks and promotional art which brings me to my final point.

WHY does the entity need a human cult based in the mortal world where Taurie Cain was from, to host any sort of banquet? We already know the enitity takes people from different worlds and timelines, it doesnt work with anyone or anything else. It takes what it thinks will intrest it or feed it. It doesnt need humans to do anything in its realm for it. Thats why It doesnt work when Trykz was actually created by the entity in the lore for just this reason. The entity doesnt care about the Black Talon Cult. They worship the entity but have no clue how to access its realm. Thats why Taurie was a sacrifice to it in her lore. They tried to make a connection but the entity just wanted Taurie for her ability to suffer more than the average person.

seriously no one likes the larp as a cannibal event.

Because god forbid we have a HORROR element in a HORROR game, right? Talk for yourself, because I like the whole cannibal theme and I'm sure many other players like it too. The community has asked for YEARS for the devs to bring more horror to DbD, and this is one of the few times they actually did it. The problem of this event is on the gameplay mechanics, not at all on the theme and aesthetics.

Just a reminder: the MAIN inspiration for DbD was a movie about cannibals (Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That's why killers place survivors in meat hooks, because Leatherface does it in the movie)! Two killers are cannibals (The Hag and, look at that, THE CANNIBAL), and other four have moris where they either eat survivors, part of them or do something akin to it (The Unknown, Dracula, Demogorgon and the Dredge). Cannibalism has always been very on-theme for DbD and people always enjoyed it.

What was wrong with the masquerade and Tryksz?

We already had three anniversary events with the Twisted Masquerade. DbD always changed the anniversary's theme after every 3 years, so it didn't get too repetitive. Plus, this is the 10th year anniversary, OF COURSE it needed to be different from everything so far. Plus, a cannibal cult is far more horror-themed and far better for the game than a colorful masquerade ball with a funny-looking lady with a Harley Quinn voice.

so why are the SURVIVORS the cannibals? Why are the killers not the ones eating feet hands and eyes?

Also there were 4 twisted masquerades 2022-2025 learn to count. the 5 first aniversary events mostly gave out free items and bp then moved to crown pillars that gave the crown halo cosmetics. There was no particular THEME till the masquerade.

How many horror movies have you seen where the cannibals are the good guys/final girls? Name one or two movies Ill wait. Till then this event is still a dumpster fire from design to execution.

  • meanwhile my Taurie will be getting all the bp from this event for the black vale themed items

  • I will say the devs tried to do something "unique" but it feels very one sided as far as matches go. Survivors (me) have no problem hiding or getting away in the desert phase but I just have a problem with the larping as cannibals that the survivors are doing. I guess it would make more sense for killers to do but this just feels weird. It feels ghoulish for the wrong reasons. The event feels backwards. I miss the old event colors and flare, I missed the powers to both create and destroy pallets mid chase not this eat a foot and you are elusive crap. The old event felt more alive. This feels like a funeral and a all you can eat victorian buffet at the morgue.

And dont even get me started on how nerfed kilers are for this event. (Im a survivor main with a history of survivor main posts)
they can what, poisen food? WOW SO ENGAGMENT. The trickster I just went up against in SOLO q could barely keep up because he just couldnt find anyone because you can keep chain stacking buffs at the carts

the scream bypass calm spirit and Lara’s perk is actually intended believe or not. Confirmed by the devs.

It’s a unique scream and doesn’t follow the norm of knocking you off things/interrupting actions either, this is also where the screaming locker bug comes from because Jason’s jumpscare scream is unique to him.

Very weird decision from bhvr, idk why it’s not just a regular scream.

and OE isn’t exactly map wide, yes the range is very big, but the amount of fog is notably increased when’s he actually close to you. When he’s in OE the fog sits at about waist level and is mildly thick, when he’s actually in TP range the fog is usually at about chest height and very thick. That’s just what I noticed and I how I decide whether to commit to gens or start crouching away.

I know the screenshot you saw but it was later revealed that it wasnt intentional and the dev that responded didnt know what they were talking about

  • My problems with jason are this:

He can cancel survivor vault animations if he just so happens to OE at your vault. Ive had it happen twice where I went to vault while in chase and was a 1/4 to 1/2 through and it put me back on the other side just to be m1'd through a window. I was held in place while my vault was canceled just to then scream on his jump scare.

He reloads mid chase with no animation lock or recovery, not only that he reloads both inside and outside his power and can reload off a hook that a survivor is already on wether you get hits with the spikes or not hes to forgiving to killers mid chase with no downsides. His slow while aiming seems to be agreed by the community to be one of the faster aim movement speeds with no real downside. After throwing his projectile he also seems to recover faster than other ranged killers. Springtrap still has a cooldown and just like all other ranged killers has a recovery animation from using their powers. (like wesker while hitting or missing a bound essentially the weapon wipe)

His jump scare is bugged and bypasses perks like calm spirit or hardened even while in a locker. I understand the killer instinct baked into jason and thats not what im talking about, no other perk or power in the game lets you scream in lockers and every scream perk thats come out in the past immediately was hotfixxed while his has stayed since the ptb.

His power has no cooldown or limit and is heard by EVERYONE on the map. I think his power should work more like the spirits where you can only really hear her using it if shes close. Having the whole match hear the power just has too many people urban evasion in fields not working on gens artifically inflating his kill count and match wins. I think this was done by design and aside from how long he can stay in his power everyone just stops what they are doing even if he isnt close because they hear the power and dont want to be the first to go down. The spirit is forced out of her power to give survivors a chance to locate her. The nurse screams while using her power, billy has a loud chainsaw you can hear even when hes undetectable. Ghoul makes out whooshing noises and you know when he is close or far, blight also has the same mechanic where you hear him bounce off objects and you can tell how close or far he is. All these killers love them or hate them have very obvious counterplay that works in a satisfying manner and agreed on by both sides. Jason has all of the benifits with none of the downsides to a chase or teleport power.

This last one is just a personal, I think he should be able to break pallets with his spear.

I played a match a little bit ago and I was running Inner Strength. So at one point when injured I stepped into a locker to heal. It was the one and only time I got into a locker the whole game. Apparently there was another survivor nearby that I hadn't seen. But shortly after I stepped into the locker I did notice a survivor that fast vaulted the window next to me twice. Of course he drew the killers attention. The moment the killer showed up this survivor started pointing at the locker I was in. I just figured it was one of "those" survivors that play to sabotage the others rather than escape.

But no…… 5 minutes or more after that match ended I got a message from this person. It was a long dissertation. But the short version was they said they get sick and tired of survivors that just want to hide instead of play the game so when they see survivors hiding they intentionally get them killed.

What an arrogant, pompous, self-aggrandizing moron. Apparently not only did this person lack the requisite brain power to realize someone can go into a locker for reasons other than to hide, but they actually view themselves as some sort of DBD police that has the right to sabotage others because they are supposedly breaking DBD law.

I swear this game has way more than it's fair share of self righteous players.

BTW, if you are one of those type of people just know this. No one else thinks you a hero. No one is applauding you for your efforts. Everyone else sees you as sad and pathetic and they would prefer to never have to play with someone like you.

ok for starters, why did you even accept the friend request??? why not ignore it and move on you knew what it was going to be you had to

Nope that dev or mod using dev account clearly did not know how his power works in game. I had this argument earlier in this thread with someone who did not want to believe that the dev could be wrong in their statement. I assure you Calm Spirit stops the screaming you can even test it yourself by playing Jason against bots equiping them with Calm Spirit and do jump scares around them they will not scream even if you get the killer instinct on them.

it does not stop screaming, I had it and was even in a locker and im still screaming

You still won't get it until you watch it. You claim that i should have chased off a 5th survivor - bizarre suggestion. I guess thats what happens when your defense is based off of ignoring any and all evidence presented to you.

Ignoring the bizarre suggestion of yours that there are 5 survivors in a match, your ultimate solution is to....slug the person and go chase someone else? Isn't slugging what youre upset about to begin with? You're solution to "slug is bad" is to slug?

That being said, at least they added a last survivor mori option so the issue happens less. Still a problem when the other survivor is still in play.

I will not give any clicks to videos that might give support to 4 slugging for no hooking. if you need a video to say it for you its not worth saying yourself

See video. My options are the survivor escapes or I bleed them out (unless they crawl away from pallet - entirely up to the survivor).

if you are going up against a power struggle user just let some one waste the time to pick them up while you run another survivor off a gen. Pallets are not endless despite what you are going to imply in your next post I'm sure. That said that is still not a valid reason to leave some one on the ground for 4 full minutes with no intention to hook them. Im not clicking your video

Power struggle would like a word. Unless the surviv9r crawls away from the pallet, it makes grabbing them literally impossible.

Prime example (time code skip, so it should jump to relevant part). Also note this predates last survivor mori.

    https://youtu.be/8zVrpuZrlBM?t=491&is=JMt4jP303G41h28x

1 perk is no excuse. It has a cooldown it has its flaws. But there is no excuse to bleed some one out on the ground for 4 full minutes.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/468653/if-slugging-is-not-toxic-neither-is-teabagging

Slugging isn't toxic. Sometimes you have to slug. Sometimes the survivor goes down right at a pallet and you need to check for a save. Sometimes the other survivors are about to finish a gen and you need to stop it. Sometimes a survivor is already on the hook, so you slug that survivor to go for the rescuer and create tons of pressure.

you never HAVE to slug some on to death. there is no excuse for leaving people on the ground for 4 minutes to bleed them to death and not hook.

Another is a tactic and another is just survivor being annoying.

both are both roles being annoying, the killers just try to lie and say it isnt griefing

  • @Wezqu said:

Two totally different things that are not comparable in anyway. If you would compare killers humping downed survivors and t-bagging you would have a comparision.

"X is killer is literally Y killer" as a shorthand to write off new releases is getting extremely old. When Springtrap walked in as a Bunny killer with a throwing axe, it was a given that people were going to make surface level Huntress comparisons.

Jason has literally nothing in common with Springtrap aside from "projectile that sticks in you" and "mobility tool" which I guess also makes these killers Deathslinger 3.0 and Wraith version 17 or something respectively.

now that the dust has settled do you still think jason is not a springtrap clone?

  • hes just a reskin on springtrap tbh. Same power same status effects just wow he can pick up a projectile from hooks and go invis while teleporting

  • He is literally springtrap 2.0

Changes for game health and player experience are not beholden to equivalent exchange. On top of that, you're starting from the premise that as few killers should be affected by anything designed to mitigate slugging, and vice versa, as few survivors benefit from it as possible, only the most egregious examples, while simultaneously, want to giga buff every single killer in every single game, from Nurse to Trapper, whether they're slugging, tunnelling, camping, or even AFK. This is not "trying to be fair." This is a figleaf.

    @cogsturning said:

I don't see this as a fair trade-off at all. There are two main types of slugging that I see. One is what I'd consider normal in typical gameplay. Chasing, hooking, gens getting done, and the killer gets into a situation where multiple people are injured or out of position in the same area and multiple downs are easy. I do this as killer, particularly if I'm desperate and there's only one gen left. I don't think this is an issue. The other kind is the trend that's going on recently, with killers bringing slug builds and going solely for slugs without ever hooking anyone until they're all down. This I think needs to be stopped.

Your solution gives killers who don't slug or who slug occasionally a big buff while not really doing much about the other version. They'll just slug you again when you stand up, and get another read on your teammates with Infectious when they do. I'm not sure why I, as someone who rarely slugs, I should get such a buff.

But if the gens are "going too fast" because of survivor efficiency maybe the answer instead could be that the entity slows down the progress?

The reasons being given for why this is happening aren't gen speeds. It's that it's easier and faster, and that perks that activate upon hooking don't get to be useful.

The only reason for the equivalent exchange is that either community feels snubbed by any change in one way, base kit unbreakable activating only if a player has been slugged 2 full minutes (no pick up but pure slug) seems fair enough if killers get something in retrun, as you said it wouldnt effect killers that dont slug or dont slug very often, thats why I say being on the ground for 2 minutes and not just a collective 2 minutes having been downed and picked up multiple times. As for the base kit deadlock while it would buff killers at the highest levels it would help killers at the lowest to probably the same degree. At most survivors are pushed off a gen with the most progress to go work on another gen, it does waste time but it does keep the match moving and not stalemating out so the killer rank or choice is kinda irrelevant. nothing about them changes fundamentally they would all play the same. Just with maybe 2 1/2 minutes of breathing space inbetween gens. But those are just thoughts and ideas.

  • @Your_Dad_Playing_DbD said:

I’ve said this in lots of other threads already, but slugging is only a problem in the survivors don’t pick up their teammates. In fact, survivors should be glad killers are slugging and not hooking, because hooks mean that you’re closer to dying. I’ve only had a handful of matches ever where the whole team was slugged, and I was far angrier at my teammates for not picking anyone up than I was at the killer for slugging. If my teammates are actually picking people up, the slugging killer very rarely wins the match in my experience.

For the downvoters who disagree - go play some matches as killer, don’t hook anyone, and see how it goes. You might be surprised how ineffective it is.

you say the same thing in most other similar posts but your responses are very hollow and feels like a bit also it feels a little disingenuous to say the solution is to heal and pick eachother up when the 2 key perks to the "slugging meta" build rely on survivors healing within the killers terror radius. It feels like disinformation to steer from a current issue.

  • I figured I would post a sort of update to this thread, As of recently more of the new killer "The Judgment" has come out and it features a "sin" mechanic, one of these actions that will apply to survivors some sort of debuff is if the survivor crouches infront of the killer too many times. I just want to point out how we have "anti t-bag" before we have anti slug while people in this thread try to claim valid excuses for slugging, this is their opinions outside of the forums. I wont link his content because I dont know the forum rules for sharing youtube links, and I dont want to further promote the playstyle but Kestner1 put out another video today This video got 15k views in a few hours. For contrast another video about antislugging by OwlsFTA as of 1 week ago is only sitting at 5k views. The gap that is pro slugging and anti slugging is becomming less and less equal but in this video he doubles down, says he doesnt care about the effects on the other players and encourages more killers to do this, he states that even though the new fast track is "skill oriented" now its still not good enough and hes still going to slug. These changes to survivor perks mean nothing when the behavior of the killer player can still decide if they are going to play the game as intended or not. This sudo accelerationism is not just unhealthy for the games player retainment but reeks of killer entitlement for a win everymatch. There is no buzzword repeated argument I haven't heard before for why this level of slugging is ok for the game. If its to bypass perks you are just mad survivors have perks, if its a swf you could have dodged the lobby you chose to play against them knowing the odds. To say the game does not reward hooks is pure poppycock, rubbish,a delusion. There is no expression of skill with downing a survivor for a bleedout timer that is longer than the hook timer and leaving them on the ground with the intenetion to wait for 4 survivors to dc then hook bots. This comment sums it up for the real reason why.

  • I think the anti camp should be based off the killers power, ranged killers shouldnt have the same range on the anticamp as m1 killers. Likewise m1 killers should have the zone slightly reduced. Either tying it into terror radius or just straight up make hooks teleport away if a killer is too close for too long. Its why I like 2v8 no one accuses you of camping when the cage just leaves

As stated by the devs on multiple occasions.

Slugging IS intended play, their issues with it is, it’s not overly fun to play on the survivor end and takes away too much agency.

Just because you don’t agree with the playstyle doesn’t make it not intended, that’s like complaining about snipers in an fps because they’re not interactive for the opponent, but they’re still an intended feature to shake up the game so every game is the same.

Im pretty certain when they designed the game they never inteneded for killers to just leave survivors on the floor for 4 minutes. Slugging to secure a hook from a team of flashlight survivors or sabo squad? Kosher slug as you need to, secure that hook. But ignoring hooks entirely is not what I imagine the devs had planned when they programmed them into the game. And you actually get less points than if you were to hook so its not about gaining bp. This meta rewards some of the fewest bp ive seen killers get in a match. How is 11k-13k at the end of a match worth the queue time? 4 minutes of the match at that point at not even spent playing but waiting. Do you really think the devs intended for this?

I was thinking that the other day. So many totems around and no use for them. Maybe add a hex class for killers too.

Atm all they're good for is survivors killing time to pop them for bloodpoints.

They really need to either add a hex/boon build where maybe hex's regenerate after so long or something because right now dull totems serve no purpose and waste time survivors could spend on gens
