New voice lines for old characters. Optional please.
Please make this an optional feature. I like how some of the characters are now, and I don't want new voice lines potentially affecting them. Like if the new voice is annoying to me, it would just kill the enjoyment of my main. Some of the old sounds and grunts of pain have charm for me.
After investing tons of BP, shards and money into characters for cosmetics and add-ons, I really don't want them to suddenly feel different to me.
Asking for this feature to be optional should not be a controversial request nor should it be hard to implement.

Oh god, who thought this was a good idea?
I thought it was a joke, is it not? I don't want them giving dwighticus the nerd voice.
Yeah same reason I'm cautious because what if they just give a character I like a goofy aa voice.
Idk i'm just replying to the original post. What "old characters" are being changed?
In the dbd 10th ani stream, they announced they were going back and adding new voice and lines to old characters that don't have them. They suggested it would be a slow process to update all of the old survivors and some killers.
I'm not against it for those who want it, but many of us also like the silent characters we are used to.
After years of playing a character, I don't want them to suddenly sound different or have a completely different voice to what I imagined. Even worse if I don't like the new sounds/voice.
A huge problem with this is what happened with Steve and Nancy, where not only were new spoken lines added, but all the old screams etc were changed too. I know multiple friends stopped playing Nancy / Steve because they didn't like the new voices.
I don't need Kate making some stupid comment every time she gets unhooked sounding like Sandy Cheeks or some #########.
Exactly. I understand them updating them with the license to increase quality, but as you said there are many who played them because of those old character sounds.
With original killers and survivors, there is no reason they need to impress other companies therefore no reason they can't have a toggle for the older sounds.
It can just be client side only where everyone else hears the new voices. I just want the option to keep characters the way I have enjoyed them for years and come to love them as they are.
They can add some quippy one liners to the older characters if they want to. But I really, really, really hope they don't touch the screams and grunts. The sounds of Dwight and Meg are iconic at this point, they've been in so many trailers for the game I think even people who don't play DBD know what they sound like.
I've not played Steve much since they took his goofy screams away from us. I'm begging you BHVR, please don't take Meg away from us too.
I generally don't play Survivors that have in-game voice lines. In the menus and lobbies is fine, but I find in-game lines kind of distracting. It's not a total dealbreaker, I do still occasionally play Orela. But I would prefer to be able to disable the in-match dialogue.
They announced they'd be doing this for killer chase music like seven years ago.
They announced the Realm Reborn initiative to update all the maps I think six years ago.
Those going great? Finished up on time? Or did they do one or two and then gave up except for a token effort once every 16 months?
Honestly, I hope this will be the case.
I do not want all my survivors to become one-liner generators.
I love the idea personally as someone who enjoys the stories and characters of DBD, there is a lot of casual players who love them.
I just think a lot of people on here love to complain.
I do not understand why do we have to now put up with every character spouting grating, cringe one-liners any time we select them or try to play them.
Plus, this will almost certainly come at expense of their original voices.
It being optional will happen if we ask for it, I just don't understand why y'all have to deny everyone else the chance to have stuff they enjoy.
I'm getting tired of the negativity of people on here, this has to be the best anniversary in the whole 10 years of playing this game, like freakin scooby doo, I'm so excited to meme with friends, and as a fan of diablo 2 I can't wait to have Mephisto.
Survivors need more to them, voice lines is definitely a step in the right direction to give them personality.
Omg most whiny commjnity ever, waaah my Dwight has different grunts how now I am going to play 😂
I do think it'd be a no-brainer to make them optional for all characters. It's supposed to be a big step forward to make the game better for people, and a toggle probably doesn't represent so much extra work that it isn't worth doing for the parts of the community who prefer their characters not talk.
Hopefully if they don't already have it planned, it's something that enough feedback will have them add partway through.
but its not really mature to respond like this either…
Hence the toggle. Then both parties can be happy.
what this has to do with my comment lol, whiny=immature?
Good news for you, there are plenty of new characters that have all the annoying millennial writing voicelines you could want. So we can leave the old characters as they are for the people who have enjoyed them that way for years.
yeah. That was my implication. Good catch, well done!
jeez, someone had a really bad day
yeah probably.
Can you lighten it up and show me those whiny posts in this thread you were referring to?
Edit: yeah, as figured, not able to.
Maybe read the post saying "Who thought this was a good idea" etc, it's the phrasing.
I am all for the toggle, I just don't know why we have to be negative about it.
Bro's fulfilling his daily internet debate quota 😂
I hope they make it an option too. I'm nervous that my favourite survivors will suddenly sound different and the new sounds/voices will feel like a downgrade. That's what happened with Jonah a couple years ago (even though his voice was changed for a good reason). I eventually got used to the new voice, sure, but I still preferred the old one.
On the other hand, if Behaviour is intent on doing this, I hope they take the opportunity to equalise survivor sound levels like they talked about doing a few years ago but never did. It would be nice to play Jeff without being loud as hell.
Meanwhile I hope they change some voices like Claire's the moans are really excessive compared to others. So more improvements are always welcome. I like Steves new voice over his old one for example and Nancy's they are well done.
Oh I didn't realize we were supposed to be grateful for the devs randomly changing the most nonproblematic parts of the game on a whim.
I still remember the completely pointless rarity switch. I still remember Autohaven being changed for no reason.
I'm not against the change but I feel it's going to be one of those things that if they do wrong everyone will hate it. For Ace who is the main guy I play it would probably make me quit playing him if his dialogue was annoying or felt off. Admittedly I'm still in favor for new voice lines (Just at a minimum).
I don't see an issue for it being optional for survivor players personally - at the same time I'm probably neutral on the subject.
i cant wait for Bill voice lines
Oof - I'd forgotten about that. Those are pretty big shoes to fill up.
I cant wait from him to throw insults at every killer,
I suppose i'm one of the lucky ones in that i only had any interest in licensed characters aside from skull merchant. Though Shane Wiigwaas might be my first original survivor main.
We have yet to see what their next stream covers in the summer. Supposed to be more depth about the voicelines / graphics overhaul / weather effects / quallity of life improvements for the year / and other changes being planned for the game. Maybe we will get stuff like a badge/banner store, legendary customisations, voice toggles, auto bloodweb improvements etc.
I've not even been playing the game that long and I already have certain sound effects/voices burned into my head. While I love the idea of hearing Dwight talk and have actual personality beyond the lore description and player stereotypes, I fear any changes to the screams and grunts.
Hearing a Dwight go down across the map is almost a comfort noise to me. Makes me feel at home.
You are so bent out of shape over colours, can't you mod them yourself?
Also we're getting a better looking Autohaven, let them experiment.
As long as there is a toggle option, everyone could be happy.
I'm personally looking forward to everyone having voice lines. Adds to the characters instead of just a skin
No, because I am not a programmer and because Nightlight mods do not solve the issue entirely.
Could always ask it to be included in the modding tools I suppose
The mod for it is a bit scuffed and it doesn't change all the rarity-based colours present on the UX, which is jarring.
It is all we are really asking for. I don't want BHVR to not update the voices for those who want new ones like you.
I just want BHVR to respect those of us who have been playing for a long time and are attached to the old sounds. I think it is a reasonable request for them to add a toggle so we can keep the characters we love as they are now. Especially given that many of us have put decent time and money into said characters.
Yeah, I don't think that's too much of an ask. I don't get why anyone would be unhappy if everyone is catering
Bills here!
