The Pigs timer when chasing you in stealth should be paused.

EDIT: Apparently this explanation of the predicament was still not clear enough so I will reword all of this completely.

Key: TRB = Trap Removal Box

The main issue is: the PIG chasing you in stealth with an active trap on your head does not delay the timer and this SHOULD be paused, this is a design flaw.

With an experienced killer you are most likely dead due to this. Once a trap activates as soon as you've had it placed on your head since you've been left on the hook (and in soloQ this will happen OFTEN), not only do you have the TRB to rush towards, you now have a pig chasing you in stealth with your trap timer still not paused. You can run to any of the 4 out of 5 boxes on the map, all it takes is the killer to know your direction usually and they can almost guess which TRB you are going to run towards, they lose line of sight? No problem at all because they can hear a pinging sound from your active trap AND they can see the aura of the TRB and with certain addons your TRB timer can take anywhere from 16-19 seconds, this is more than enough time for the pig to catch up to you and most likely hook you a second time (practically for free).

The Pigs addons are NOT the issue, her trap timers are NOT the issue, your TRB being interrupted by screaming is NOT the issue, the slow speed in general of TRB's are NOT the issue. These following **paragraph** were possible ideas by me to remove the oppressiveness of how oppressive it is when being chased by the pig with no trap timer delay IF the dev's did not want to pause the trap timers while she chases you in stealth.

"The Paragraph" = Either reduce the time it takes to interact with the trap removal machine, increase the time for traps in general, remove the ability for screaming to affect trap removal interactions, remove the ability for traps to stay active when a killer is in your radius/following in stealth, or increase the trap removal process by 5x the speed if a killer is within distance of you and walking towards you to ensure the trap is removed before they grab/melee you.

I want you to understand the following:

    • These scenarios always happen in SoloQ so I want you to understand that there is zero communication when going for a trap removal box in any given area
    • I also do not generally fail skill checks
    • Just because you did not understand my reasoning behind how I explained something, that does not instantly make something factually wrong. I assumed the majority on the forums would be experienced players with hundreds, if not thousands of hours, so at times I do not feel the need to paraphrase

    A pig can see:

    • 5 Trap boxes
    • When a survivors trap is active because of the survivors banner Aura turning RED from white

Now as a killer what would you do next? you'd keep a mental time memory of the trap activating it for later. The killer would then play the game like normal.

The survivor on the other hand has the following constraints:

    • Has to remove the trap in a very tight timeframe and reach all 5 boxes if RNG is not on their side
    • Usually by this point a gen is almost done and will be popped just as a trap is placed on your head after prolonging a chase as long as you can, depending on how bad the loops in an area are, so you haven't got any trap boxes done yet but your trap timer has instantly become active
    • Experienced Pig killer mains clearly understand the trap is oppressive so they'd add major delay addons to trap removal (can be up to 16s per box)
    • Has to traverse the map in general, avoiding the killer as best as they can

    I said:

""Pig speed does not make a difference when in stealth because your timer is still continuing" and then follow it with "She can let the timer continue by following you in stealth while still chasing you". "

    In other words:

    • Your destination is known because the pig can see box trap auras
    • A pig in stealth can still follow you without pausing the trap timer cooldown, you have no choice but to go to that trap removal box in that area because of bad RNG, both trap removal locations being so close together on some maps (for reference, yes I know there are 5 trap removal boxes), as well as lack of trap time and a heavily increased delay in general from trap box addons, and the obvious killers' memory from earlier knowing your trap has been active for a while now
    • The killer usually switches to you when she see's you, again the oppressive trap timer forces you to act hastily and go directly to the trap removal box (if you delay this she will purposely just stalk you in stealth regardless of slowdown speed because she knows where the trap removal auras are and if you're in that area with an active trap it's obvious you're heading there)
    • She can wait at the box and count down the trap removal timer (with her addon extensions and lets use the 16s as an example) while you're trying to remove it and knock you off it before the 16s have elapsed, you have no time to delay and if you're still in the trap removal animation it will still blow your head off
    • I'm also not talking about crouch following you around the entire map obviously, she can walk at a certain range before it becomes a chase and then she enters stealth when within chase distance

This can be seen as tunnelling but it can also be seen as a design exploit.

The Pig is weak at the moment when compared to other killers so that would naturally assume only experienced killers would play as the pig. This would also assume that they know exact trap removal timers with their chosen addons like the back of their hand. I am also not talking about a scenario of them finding you randomly on a box and waiting it out to hit you, I am talking about a scenario of you being forced onto the trap removal box while they are still stealth chasing you and you're unable to lose them because of time constraints, trap removal auras being shown to the killer (this is what I mean by they know your location) and they are behind you in stealth with no punishment while your timer still ticks away.

    Now you would ask:

    • So why wouldn't you lose them first?

My reply would be, "How? Time constraints". With addons trap removal timers can take up to 16 seconds as someone stated in this post, more than enough time for a pig to run/stealth to you on a trap removal box, hook you once and then come back a second time once you've been unhooked and knock you once for a guaranteed kill. And thus the reoccurring, repeating dilemma we have in this post.

@UndeddJester Usually SoloQ teammates unhook you asap, finish gens without caring about inactive traps. The killer tunnelling me would just destroy me even faster due to it as he's not even left the area or purposely proxy camping in general. I haven't used plot twist much but I'll give it a go. In a SWF this wouldn't have been as much of an oppressive issue but in SoloQ it's so bad.

@LapisInfernalis 240s sounds good in theory but practically, the last 60 seconds is what screws you over when there's screaming perks, extension addons that purposely interrupt you and then the killer coming to you at least once and forcing you away from that trap removal location. That is usually more than enough to delay the trap on your head to blow up. The killer is usually happy to throw the game to get that TTV kill.

Then please complain about Ultimate Weapon (or screaming perks in general), not about Piggy.

Toxic players are everywhere. It does not need to be a TTV.

You might not want to hear this but if you put TTV in your name you need to accept that some idiots will target you to feel better. (I don't think it's OK, but what can you do about these idiots)

I don't stream, but having almost 7k hrs combined with a P100 makes you an automatic target.

This is a completely different topic and still no need to nerf her timer. The killer player would still tunnel you without them playing pig, if they really wanted to.

Yes it is not fun if you can't to anything in a match besides solving boxes, but these are edge cases. At least in my games.

  • How in the hell trap timers are to low? Maybe with 2 timer addon it can be problematic. But otherwise all you have to do is stay low, and go to the boxes.

If your teammates not help you at all in those "chases" while the pig crouch, also finish a gen at the worst time etc it is not the Pig's fault and not needed to nerf. People should use their brain in scenarios like this.

My mind is blowing that some survivors think that every killer's power and perks should favor THEM instead of the killer. What would be enough? Every survivor should get speed and endurance every time a killer uses their power? Maybe also some progress in a random gen.

  • Because head traps are fine and no one with more than 5 hours legitimately thinks there's an issue with them.

In a perfect scenario there's always enough time to take off the trap, but with a little bit of resistance there just simply isn't.

I do think that from what you said what I stand the most with is your complain about her being able to follow you in stealth when you have a trap and it stays on. It does not make sense at all gameplaywise (boring, there is nothing to be done against that and it’s a secured death if paired with deadlock and other passive slowdowns) nor in actual lore of Saw. Saw traps are meant to give a chance of survival to those who are tested, so you are not suppose to make sure somebody dies like she can do in the game if played like that.

I really hope and wish she will get changed to buff her chase potential and remove her ‘me puts trap me follows this person crouched until head blows up” gameplay style.

The thing is, Amanda didn't care about them being able to succeed so if you think about it that's actually lore accurate cuz she rigged the games she set up much to John's dismay

  • @SimpleSage said:

Face the Darkness does make searching the boxes harder, but its not impossible when you look at the numbers.

    Base search time: 12s

Longest base search time possible with add-ons: 16.68s (Both gear add-ons decrease the speed by 39% total.)

Missed skill check: -10% progress and a 1.5s pause on progress = 3.17s added to search time

So, if Face the Darkness makes you scream every 25s as long as you don't miss too many skill checks and time your search well, you do have plenty of time to search the box before getting kicked off. My best advice is to wait to search until immediately after you scream, this will give you the most time possible and means you can miss 2 skill checks before you scream again as this takes about 23s max.

These numbers obviously change based on the add-ons. If you run Crate of gears with Razor Wires (makes skill checks harder (25%)+injures survivor), search time is 15s and gives you 1 more chance for a skill check (3 total), however you only have a little under half a second of wiggle room to start the search.

Yes Impossible Box Pig is a pain and not fun to deal with, and other perks can also make this much more challenging. Fortunately, the name of this play style is misleading and it is NOT impossible, you just have to be cautious and take your time even when you want to rush.

And obviously there are some tweaks that can be made that could make Pig a little more bearable in general without rendering her traps useless like:

    • Search Progress doesn't reset it just de-pleats slowly.
    • Trap timers stop when within a specific distance of the Pig not when in chase.
    • Survivors cannot die to the trap while in the act of searching a box, or the timer has a significant slowdown during search.

That is just an overall nerf 💀 you'd have to at least give something to compensate like be able to re use traps or something

There's a clear difference between a "tough time" and "guaranteed death". There is zero counter play and that's the issue here.

Any Killer can tunnel. Had a Wesker and a Xeno today who tunneled everyone off hook. Only difference for Pig is if you run her the entire game you have to take hatch to escape instead of an exit gate.

  • A second hook option like Pyramidhead has, would be nice. Like the challenges in the movies.

The downed survivor get a black out and finding themselves in different situations.

This is literally ruining my experience right now. Its shocking how bad this is and how it's not been addressed yet. IDC how she feels "weak" when compared to another killer, that is NOT THE ISSUE. The issue is ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE TRAP WHEN BEING TARGETTED. Another teammate had a trap and couldn't even take it off either, they died, I had TWO traps and got lucky by removing a random one, then once I got knocked for the first time she proceeded to tunnel me with ZERO repercussions, my timer only stops in chase. How is that fair???

You DO NOT HAVE TIME, either reduce the time it takes to interact with the trap removal machine, increase the time for traps in general, remove the ability for screaming to affect trap removal interactions, remove the ability for traps to stay active when a killer is in your radius/following in stealth, or increase the trap removal process by 5x the speed if a killer is within distance of you and walking towards you to ensure the trap is removed before they grab/melee you.

And for those going to comment "oh he's slow" or "you cant outrun or lose him?", explain WHERE are you going to run with 30s on the timer before your head explodes and what stops the killer from checking all traps in close proximity? Yes, NOTHING.

I personally disagree with this topic. She doesn’t need a nerf. The only suggestion is timer doesn’t keep counting down while she chases you in stealth. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    My humble opinion.

Again, I think you would notice that if you would put that TTV away from your name for a week you would notice that the timer is not as bad as you think it is. Trust me. I get tunneled my fair share (P100 with almost 7k hrs, like I said).

Because the problem is tunneling and not the timer.

Some folks also say that Wesker's infection is bad because it makes tunneling easy. Same thing. Tunneling needs to be addressed, not killer powers or addons.

  • I personally never face pig, like very rarely do I see her, and even more rarely do I have a tunneling head trap pig. So it's not too much of a concern for me but in solo q it is unfun for that player, as there's not a lot you can do, you can't tell your teammates to wait to pop gens or get them to takes hits, or tell them to leave so you can escape through hatch. Especially with screaming perks it can be a nightmare, so I can see where you're coming from. But because she's so rare, I don't know that it's much of a priority or necessity rn at least.

Amanda's main arc in the films is that she's an addict who traded drugs for obsessing over John. She does not actually care about his legacy and fundamentally did not understand the purpose of his tests which is displayed by the fact that every single test she personally setup was impossible to survive. This is even something John figured out about her and on his deathbed essentially placed her in another test without her knowing to see if she could actually stop cheating. She fails and gets shot as a result of not changing her ways and robbing others of their chance to learn from the tests.

She gets the beartrap as her power because it's the most significant test to her as it was originally the test she had pass which led her to become one of the apprentices.

pig's traps should be death sentence that has high probability to kill. i think issue that most people have with her head-trap is how cheap the kill is. what I mean by that is there is no back and forth with her traps when trap is active. your forced to search the boxes and if you run out of time, your dead. when people die to her reverse trap, they feel cheated in the death because they couldn't change outcome of trap kill. the gameplay design is trying reflect the lore of character where once experiment begins, your dead. the character design is cool but it is little bit.. i don't know, brittle? the design works but the gameplay towards trap is a bit dry.

1 down is 1 kill. that is why i think pig's chase is very bad because of how one dimensional the trap towards the kill. my guess is counter-play is suppose to be that you don't go down to the pig... so pig cannot put reverse bear traps to mori you. It seems that with me being frustrated by being followed in stealth for at least 5/6 games in a row almost; multiple people trying to get their points across and making this post feel more like a chore to reply to, I have also come to realise that I somehow forgot to actually write the exact nerf clearly that I wanted fixed which should've been in the OP. That was her timer pausing while you are being chased. It's funny because I'm PRETTY SURE I DID add this in at one point but I guess describing fixes to a problem rather than explaining what the problem actually is is definitely a male trait... or someone deleted it.

I have amended the OP, hopefully it makes a lot more sense now.

@LapisInfernalis The point I was trying to make with the "TTV" comment is that the killer does not care about protecting gens to get that TTV kill. and again mate, I do not care if I get tunnelled by any killer because I have TTV in my name, I don't care if it's any killer in the game, tunnelling has been happening almost 9 months to me now, I'm used to it.

You can try your best not to go down at all or your team can trade speeding through gens for overall safety by stalling gen completion to let a person get their trap off without being pressured. People forget that by default the traps aren't immediately active and pose no threat to you until a generator gets completed while it's on your head. The trap wasn't meant to kill as consistently as it does as it's primary function is to make survivors slow down on progressing their objective to circumvent the instant death risk. People tend to just try finish games as fast as possible though which makes it more worthwhile to force head pops.

The trap wasn't meant to kill as consistently as it does as it's primary function is to make survivors slow down on progressing their objective to circumvent the instant death risk. People tend to just try finish games as fast as possible though which makes it more worthwhile to force head pops.

i fully understand that. I just think that people complain about pig head-pop don't get that. whenever i play vs pig, i tend to want to get chased first because i don't want my teammates to fail chases early vs pig. in my subjective experience, if pig chases me, i can loop m1 killers easily for 3-4 gens to pop. after that. her traps are no longer threat when 1 gen as long your team does not just suicide and get a bunch of helmets. if your teammate take chase and they're bad at looping than those pig games tend to be hard due the fact that she makes your teammate useless for like 50% of the match with slow gens.

I think pig does need major buffs however i think she is pub stomper from my subjective experience.

Then why do you care if piggy does so?

  • Either way the fact that she can find you, follow you, and ensure you never get your trap off while its going to kill you, is a 100% free kill with no downside other than possibly losing everyone else out the gates. All shed have to do is watxh you at the machine, pull you off when ur almost done, and carry you somewhere elae and drop you again till you fall out. The only counter to the trap whatsoever is a hatch escape, which is very unlikely if ur trap goes off by the first generator. Then again myers can just 1 shot the whole team by staring at them, and lockers just give him free hooks that he can camp go death

I must be the only Piggly Wiggly that has never used the scream stuff

Trust me it's hella annoying, especially if you're being tunnelled in the process lol., imagine a 19s timer to remove the trap and then it interrupts at the last second and the killer is just teabagging behind you watching it all unfold lol

  • Stop telling me what I should or shouldn't do please. Removing TTV from my name does not stop the killer chasing me in stealth without pausing the timer.

I know all of this and none of these are issues, it is the trap timer not pausing when being followed in stealth.

Having the trap time not tick down while being followed in stealth would be dumb and completely remove any threat the power has which removes its entire point.

  • Pig wastes so much time following you in stealth. Everytime she does that it‘s a free win for the survivors and if your teammates have some honor, they will distract her before the head pop happens. Also you can just run away and in the end she has to go out of stealth, because she is too slow, then she chases you and the timer is paused. You could prevent this situation most times entirely by searching the boxes before the timer even starts.

  • You say that you don't care if you get tunneled.

So why do you care if piggy follows you with an active trap, effectively tunneling you? Your logic does not make sense. Either you don't care about tunneling or you do, but not by deciding from time to time.
