Thoughts on Blight tech

Do you consider blight tech (ie. moonrushing, hug tech) exploits? If you do think they are exploits, why?

    @MandyTalk

I strongly oppose robbing blight of hug tech. Originally, it is a killer with a large performance difference between PC users and consumer machines. PC users don't have a big problem without hug tech because of the DPI shift, but not so with consumer devices. If even hug tech is lost, there is no point in using blight. For that matter, once hug tech is gone, I'll never play Dead by Daylight again.

You gonna start uninstalling now or are we waiting

  • Why are you trying to wind people up

  • Am I winding people up if they've already wound themselves up? Person just proclaimed they're never playing DBD again if a bug gets removed from the game like c'mon now I can't be the only one who finds this funny.

idk it's not about finding it funny, like there's humour to be had.

I remember when the whole jflick situation happened, some people def overreacted and threw a bit of a tantrum over it but at the same time I don't think it's a good idea to further wind those ppl up bc otherwise they're never gonna change their perspective

Maybe I just got the wrong impression, if so that's mb.

  • The tribalistic/gloating attitudes of some of the people here is pretty cringeworthy. Why not actually discuss things like a normal person instead of "lol haha get rekt"? What are you, a child? You can discuss things with people of opposing viewpoints without being a poor sport about it.

I'm still waiting for evidence from anyone here that hug tech was overpowered/broken/uncounterable/etc.

  • Hug tech needs to be left in the game its not overpowered and it takes skill to do. Now things like the shack or short and long pallet walls are going to be a lot easier to loop against blight. I love looping a good blight and this is going to make them a lot weaker. If your mmr is working as intended low level survivors shouldn't even be worried about facing a blight that can do this consistantly.

It doesn't matter if it's overpowered/broken/uncounterable/etc. It's a bug. Blight is not intended to do that.

Whether it's fair or fun is irrelevant now.

And bugs have regularly been incorporated into games as accepted features/mechanics to be balanced around instead for years. Removal is not the only option, and it is disingenuous to liken a bug that betters experience versus something like crashing a game/being unable to pick up a survivor/etc. So, no, it's not irrelevant.

Shack, no. Long wall. Yea a little bit. But that's whatever. Long wall jungle gyms are terrible map design

Depends on the map tortured creek with no shack hugging sucks cause there's not much to bounce off of which goes back to your original response of map design.

There's several ways to deal with shack. Without hug tech though. That includes that particular cold wind map

I know just makes it less fun imo. Love looping against blight the way he is. Taking away hug techs just makes it a little easier.

Why back up your statements for wanting for something to leave when it's already confirmed to be leaving.

Cause my point is I think it would be better for devs to rescind their decision to remove it and instead turn it into an intentional mechanic they can balance around, since it’s not problematic as is, it just wasn’t originally intended.

  • The closest to this scenario that I can imagine in analogy is Mercy's superjump in Overwatch and other situations in MMO's I've played (like ottoshot in grand chase).

But even in those games where the bugs were "built into/standardized in the gameplay" because they had been around since the launch of the character/mechanics introduced, note that these are multiplayer games where both teams have equal chances and skills can be reproduced or countered equally.

Here at DBD it's simply a role with more power, mobility and map control against one with more players and weak by nature.

Simply anything that isn't programmed to work as intended, significantly increases the chances of any little thing going right or wrong for either side (especially if it benefits the survivors) generating false stats and easily increasing or decreasing kills/escapes.

I can imagine a similar post with a lot of criticism and people calling the bug fix a "nerf" when devs give the same treatment for the nurse range addons that have been glitched since sadako's release.

Both sides do have equal chances though. Survivors have their own strengths and killers have their own weaknesses. Bug fixes aren’t nerfs or buffs, but when the bug’s been around for a while, it will nerf or buff the average power level potentially. That in of itself is a non-issue. My contention is that this current bug isn’t overpowered in the first place, and actively makes mindgaming more interactive.

People said the same thing about Billy in 2016 when you could chainsaw and then at the end of a saw sprint you could make your saw hit left or right 90 degrees from the direction of your initial charge.

Blight will still be an A+ killer after this change. He will no longer be an S tier killer. This is good for the long term health of the game.

Removing hug tech reduces interactivity of mindgaming as and against the Blight though. There's nothing wrong with being an S tier killer, Blight himself is balanced outside of stuff like Alchemist Ring/C33.

  • I don't particularly get some of the pushback against the removal people are acting it'll lower blight to a B tier killer

He’d still be strong, low S/high A instead of high S. But it’s unnecessary to remove it in the first place instead of turning it into a mechanic and working with that in mind for any future balance updates. Hug tech as is, makes chases more mindgame interactive and is simple to mindgame.

  • Dear SuzuKR in 5 months went from why It’s not a bug and It’s intended to saying that it should be intended.

Just let it sink in, it will get fixed. You keep only writing the best scenario for countering the hug bug, it doesn’t have counter all the time. And on some loops you’ll get hit only because of this bug . I’ve been telling you for the past months that it’s a bug.

  • About time. Now BHVR only needs to delete Nurse and rebalance the maps/Killers so that we can have something resembling fun matches.

  • Just gonna refresh you, given you probably weren’t able to see since you were banned, but I had already changed my mindset after it being confirmed it was a bug. I have no clue why you’re still going on about this.

Why would BHVR delete a character? That’s just bad practice outright. And Nurse is balanced/well-designed with the exception of range addons and three blinks as well.

the best way to do it would be add a secondary collision system that is very sensitive but inactive for the first second or 2, that way it would allow for the same bump logic but if a hug exploit is performed it would activate mid rush and force a bump.

people would still be able to play blight with good bump logic

Those are two separate issues. Hug tech would most easily be fixed by having the secondary collision detection made inactive for a few frames each time M2 is pressed.

As a completely separate issue, Blight was intended to be able to bump off of short objects, which he can’t do. Playing Blight as intended would require BHVR to fix this major collision issue.

  • Doesn't matter if it gets fixed, Blight will the second best Killer regardless. What my issues are, is that removing it reduces the skill-ceiling, and that Survivors have yet another thing to complain about instead of acknowledging their mistakes

To be fair if a survivor isn't running a exhaustion perk they get killed for making a mistake where as a killer can make multiple mistakes in a chase and still win the chase and usually the game. Killers have basically 4 main things that give them a decent advantage

    1. they are faster by default
    2. they have a power that gives an advantage against survivors
    3. they have add ons that give them even more advantage over a survivor
    4. they dont have to worry about teammates that if they make mistakes effects you.

I mean I've watched top streamers like otz dowsey hell even survivor mains like ayrun say they are lucky killer can make multiple mistakes. Im talking more about in chase than the whole game. But 1 misplay by a survivor around a loop and means 100% they are going down vs where a killer can make a misjudgment on a loop and still get back in chase.

    Yeah but think about it

Due to the 4 v 1 nature of the game, 1 killer mistake is worth so much more than 1 survivor mistake time wise.

In fact one of the most common killer mistakes that gets made is over committing to somebody you just can't catch, that is a game ending mistake for many killers

Yea i know that but due to the 4v1 nature of the game solo que you are screwed since the game is 1v1v1v1v1 and as long as you dont over commit you still have the advantage in a chase. Its like me saying hey im faster stronger and better than you but you have the advantage the only thing a survivor can do is learn to loop which most people arent as good as they think at it.

There are absolutely problems with killers being S tier. On the other end of the spectrum we have C and D tier killers. Things would be different if we had A tier and B tier killers and no S or C tier.

You can't really hope to balance the game when there are two viable killers able to compete on all maps while most of the others are completely ruined on many tile sets (like playing trapper with no grass).

Also Blight will be just fine without Hug Tech. Sometimes you will just have to chase a survivor down without using your power (/gasp).

How is the conclusion you reach "Nerf the killers performing at the level they're supposed to be able to" instead of "Help the underperforming killers"?

Fun fact, bump logic is much stronger and much more reliable than hug tech. Just because it's unintended doesn't mean it needs to be removed. It adds mindgame interactivity to chase, and is simple to mindgame.

Huge tech is a bug that adds fun to playing with blight, one of the best things about playing with blight is learning to be able to make that turn that the bug allows, if it is nerfed this will affect the people that have fun playing with blight what it could do is that more players leave the game.

It's a good bug, in fact it should be improved to be a blight skill and stop being a bug.

There are two S tier killers. Blight losing hug tech will still be strong but not longer have an answer to every single little terrain element. He will have to "chase normally" sometimes. That is good for the game balance.

The quickest way to balance DBD is to :

    1. Nerf Blight and Nurse down to A tier. Note : (If nurse lost the ability to cancel long blinks by blinking into the floor, lost her "omega" addons, lose the ability to "look up" to get more blink, and one more minor thing I cant remember - and Nurse would have a LOT of ways to get countered).
    2. Nerf SWF ( example : you cant repeat any perk or item in a swf)
    3. Buff the 16/25 killers that are absolute trash.
    4. Give every killer some mobility option to move around the map or make maps smaller. In Monster Hunter world there were "holes in the wall" that only the monsters could use. Add these to certain map elements and bam all killers have "mobility". Or we could chop up all maps to be 9000m².
    5. Add server side checks to stop or highly limit the cheating. Had they done this two years ago the cheaters would likely not even be messing with DBD. Then again if they had thought about building the game with security in mind 6 years ago they wouldn't be in this mess either. (the game launched with the ability to edit your bloodpoints with : notepad.)
