To be fair, the big numbers are because of the Resident Evil-DLC.
And compared to the years before, there are still more players playing.
42k player for 24 hours. And that's just on Steam. So this looks good to me.
@Aven_Fallen is right. Resident Evil is great license, so it came with so much new players. So people looked game, some of them loved and still playing. And others left.
If we get another big license with next anniversary, you will see bigger numbers again.
dunno man, seems alright to me.
How do people misrepresent these stats EVERY time.
They either compare current average to the peak highest, or ignore all other info and look at "currently Playing". It's literally 11AM in the UK, and early morning in the US / Canada, the numbers for the time that you posted are obviously going to be low, you're completely ignoring the "42K 24hr Peak" that's the most amount of people it hit in that last 24 hours, so at some point in the last day 42 thousand people were online on the game at the same time.
Yeah, exactly. Many players were new, some probably returned as well.
And some already left and probably old players left as well. I would not deny that players left because of SBMM or other things, but with 42k players playing at the same time, the game is far from doing bad.
When you consider the fact this game once had like 16K players, today's numbers are pretty damn good.
There arnt many big horror licenses left to obtain aside from F13 a few in adverage popularity but RE was a big deal due to it being the number 1 horror game franchise
Nah, they still can get big licenses:
FNaF, F13, Child's Play, Tomb Raider, Last of Us, The Walking Dead, It (Pennywise), Scooby-Doo etc. All of this licenses are pretty big as like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Halloween etc.
Let's hope the next big license chapter isn't a disaster like the RE one (with the map being deactivated for several weeks) and manages to contain more of the hyped playerbase.
Yeah we all BHVR'ed and RE is probably biggest license DbD has. At least last 2 chapters were okey, game had not any big bug. Do you remember pallet bugs with Trickster chapter. And RE chapter broke game for old gen consoles. They did not do same mistake with Pinhead and Artist at least.
Comparing numbers to years ago makes no sense. Years ago this game did not have RE, years ago this game did not have Silent Hill, years ago this game didn't have hellraiser and I could go on.
What does it say when instead of retaining new players by bringing in big new licenses they retain basically nobody even lose a couple core players? Is DBD dying no ofcourse not but being unable to retain players no matter what license you get is unequivocally a failure.
thats a good number right , but the decrease over time is not good they have hard time to keep players atm
Overall numbers are still pretty good for the game historically. The big concern is if this negative trend will continue. Through current the game is on a 5 month straight player losses.
The RE chapter did bring in a lot of new players but they ######### the game up for 6 weeks on last gen console players. At the time I was on ps4( i scored a ps5 in Dec). Killer was unplayable until the mid chapter due to latency issues whenever the survivor did anything or any killer power activation. The fact that bhvr just sat with thumbs up their ass for 6 weeks while console had so many issues really irritated me. I haven't spent any $ in this game since.
Recently turning the nurse off and saying "maybe in the next release" tells me they still don't prioritize things properly. Credit to them for adjusting boil over in 2 weeks. But the general attitude of bhvr seems to be against hotfixes.
Next anniversary we get a new influx of players, so dont worry.
My biggest issue has always been that BHVR seems to have not realized that 6 weeks between fixes isn't good enough anymore.
That made sense when there were 4 Killers. We have hundreds of perks and tens of Killers. A change every month and a half isn't cutting it.
As long as it works and earns money there is no need to change something. This playercount seems to be fine for that.
We have to see if the playerbase manages to rise as the new player experience is not the best right now.
I don't care about the current day numbers, all I care about is the trend. Currently, we're in (almost) our 5th consecutive month of decline. This has not happened since the beginning of the steam charts.
Another troubling issue is the gain of 13k players and the immediate loss of 11k players the month after. This speaks to a very poor player retention, and I could ramble on for hours how this game is absolutely the least attractive game any prospective new player could pick up and start playing in its current state.
DBD grew nicely from April to July, then come september 2021, SBMM was announced and implemented. And it's all downhill from there. I know correlation does not necessarily point towards causation, though it makes me wonder what could lead to 13k players disappearing since September 2021.
To get the full picture, I'd like to see metrics from other platforms like PS and Xbox as well as EGS, but I don't think those platforms publish their playerstats.
Because people say the game is dying when it is maintaining.
