Someone explain how Freddy is a skilled character?

Can someone explain how a killer where he doesn't need to do anything to get his power. An anti-loop that is drop snares all around. That makes Doctor and Clown laugh at how simple it is. A good detection tool since for some reason you can't crouch over it. A teleport that can reach any gen no matter how far a generator is make Oni, Billy, and Blight jealous. A character with little to no difference between a god tier Freddy and average Freddy. Freddy is the lamest simplest character in the game. He doesn't need to time or reload his anti loop no Cooldown and always has it. Doesn't need to do anything to get his power. A gen teleport where he doesn't need to find an angle around objects. Someone somehow explain if Freddy takes much skill.

Every single bad Freddy my friends and I have played against either doesn't use their snares for some reason, or uses dream pallets. This is also what I did back when I myself started playing Freddy.

And also, I agreed with OP that Freddy doesn't take much skill to play.

Have you looked at their ranks? I've never seen a Freddy not use snares.

My point was looping m1 killers on most maps takes minimal skill. This is how most survivors want the game, with the calls for destroying any killer than has control or input in a chase.

Why is it then only an issue where killers dont take too much skill? A lot of the game doesn’t yet only certain killers seem to be held to that standard

Hes definitely overrated we’ve seen many a good freddy struggle against teams that play safe and do gens. Just because you see him a lot doesnt mean that isnt the case. Just because hes overrated hes still better than half the roster. Main reason freddys win is because the game is plentiful with survivors who want to do anything but generators.

Any killer bar Nurse can be beaten by “rushing gens” i.e jumping on gens early and staying on them unless absolutely neccesary to leave. Many survivors dont play this way though. Some like to raid chests, some like to meme, some play cautiously, Blendettes like to hide in bushes and Bill players tend to wander around aimlessly. The game is in survivors control and the killer community is just lucky that not all realize this

Most survivors actually want killers like Billy and Huntress, but okay.

Yeah, ever since his rework anytime I faced a Freddy they've all been using snares. Then again I don't face him often either.

Freddy's input to output ratio is bonkers compared to pretty much every other killer.

Pretty much this. You get twice as much out of Freddy than you get out of Wraith, Myers, Ghostface, Pig, etc, and they're just as easy to use, if not harder. Freddy rewards enormous value, but he's absolutely braindead from a skill perspective. People wouldn't have nearly as big of an issue with it if his power level was more in line with similarly skill-capped killers.

  • Teleporting to the survivor objective using auras, and then having no cooldown to stop loops is overkill. What really pushes him over the top is perks, perks like Tinkerer, BBQ, PGTW, and probably even Ruin shouldn't even exist when a killer like Freddy exists. It's an unfair advantage that doesn't take any skill. It's overpowered and its why it is so rare for a Freddy to lose, even a bad one.

They should revert Freddy completely, the old one required more skill and effort and he needed to put in some effort to pull people into sleep.

  • i have sworn off lies for my new years resolution

I don't know if his view has changed by now, but I remember Tru3 saying (I think in the past 12 months) that Freddy should be able to teleport to a generator at the start of the match... always disagreed with him on that, it's like resetting your start position every trial and choosing where you start pretty much.

I'd say Freddy has more skill than say, Myers for example. With Freddy you kinda have to figure out good spots to place snares at loops, with Myers you just stare at a survivor then get your ability and one-hit down with M1... Myers has to have the most plain and boring power in the game.

Haha, it was possible for a little while (maybe for longer, idk), do you remember when you could tbag and use a flashlight at the start of the trial when the camera was spinning around your character as a Survivor? Well, when this was happening with Freddy you could hold the Teleport button before you were allowed to move and it would teleport you lol.

Maybe I have a video of this happening somewhere.

You mean Billy....an M1 killer where survivors control the chase. That was my point, thanks for proving it.

Also survivors don't quite want those killers like that do they? they wanted nerfed Billy which they got, and now they want nerfed huntress which they will get.

  • They made a simple, versatile kit but effective killer. I don't see the problem with making an entryway killer other then the fact that he is purchasable dlc only. I want all of you to take a step back get off your ivory tower's and examine the following question? How do I make the killer role approachable for newcomers bar telling everyone who's struggling to suck it up and "git gud". You can hand them guides you can give them tips but trying to convey how to create pressure and apply it effectively will take a good deal of time. Let's not forget community behavior is so disgustingly toxic that asking them to bare with it is terrible for newcomers, I don't see a problem with having a strong versatile killer that has a low skill celling. I'm not against toning him down that is reasonable. Lets hope behavior doesn't botch it and end up sending him to the trash tier. Never forget OG Freddy and never forget the nerf the applied shortly after his release.

  • He's not he rewards you for looping the wrong way and free map pressure not to mention addon slowdown because wakeing up is pointless he hits you and you are asleep again but at this point I'm about ready to start playing him because people either just want to do 4 gens in like 200s or DC so I will give them a reason to dc while stopping the gens form popping in 40s

What? Literally like no survivors asked for a Billy or Huntress nerf. The only "nerf" I've seen survivors want to Huntress in particular is improved hitboxes and changes to outdated addons. But not a straight up weakening to their base kit power. As for Billy, the overheat mechanic was something that almost nobody asked for. Stop saying sUrViVoRs aSkeD foR thiS and acting like they're the ones who got Billy nerfed, when in reality it was just a questionable, odd choice of the devs.

A lot of survivors don't give a flying ######### if the killer is strong or not. They just want a killer who is fun to face. Fun doesn't always mean weak either, like some biased people love to think. Killers who are strong but fun like Oni, Blight, Huntress, or Billy are almost never complained about by the majority of the survivor playerbase.

Contrary to what you think, a lot of survivors don't give a flying ######### if the killer is strong or not. They just want a killer who is fun to face. That's why you hardly hear strength complaints about the stronger killers who are fun like Oni, Blight, Huntress, or Billy.

Plenty wanted the Billy nerf and plenty want an add on nerf for huntress. I'm not talking about iri heads which, I mean exhaustion. Considering you can tap E to dodge a hatchet at any point, and as survivor you dont need to DH until AFTER shes thrown means you cant bait it out as a huntress vs good survivors, so essentially huntress will need 3 on point hatchets to down a survivor after her add on change

What is your definition of plenty? Because clearly it's different than the actual definition of the word. There were hardly any threads asking to nerf Billy back then. The consensus around the community back then was that he was a fair and fun killer, but only had a few outdated addons. Of course you'll always have a few outliers who want everything nerfed, but to say there were plenty of players wanting a basekit nerf to Billy is just flat out wrong.

As for Huntress, the community asking for outdated addons to be changed, not for the devs to weaken her basekit power, which is still very strong. Once again showing that survivors don't mind strong powers as long as they're fun to go against.

Arguing with that guy is like talking to a brick wall. His thick killer main skull won't receive any of your information.

  • m1 basically means loopable, can not get htis at pallets. I get what you're saying but generally m2 killers are killers who predominantly get hits on their M2 ability which is used to counter looping, nurse blinks, spirit phase, hag traps, pyramid head POTD etc

But Billies use their chainsaw constantly.

  • When I was a noob I placed snares at generators at the start of the trial....I never used them in chase and i rarely teleported. Faked it constantly tho. Now I never spam snares but I will place them in loops and T/L and survivor will leave or get hit that simple. If he leaves the next survivor that comes to that loop will be hit or downed because my snares are already there. Traps and trails there would be nothing you could do if not for crouching but snares all you have to do is be awake so they already have a counter. No need for another. Dropping pallets early is a known help reason my current build is BBQ, Disco, Brutal, and POP.

That's it, that's the pinnacle of his skill ceiling and floor.

It takes you 1 minute to pick freddy and win nearly every match.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1951477#Comment_1951477

You people keep throwing survivor gameplay into everything as an argument, can you stop being like that and bring something constructive instead? Just asking.

Why are you asking them to elaborate beyond survivor play and are massively shortlisting all of the tasks required for Freddy to win. Yes he dosent have as dense or janky gameplay but you still need to know how to pressure the map. You need to teleport and apply pressure to gens being pushed and you need to still mindgame loops as simple hold w killer gameplay as freddy will lose you the game. Yes by other killer standard's he is simple but again as I have stated above he makes for a good entry way killer which dbd desperately needs considering how hard it is to pick up and continue playing the role.

  • It would be pretty awesome if he could maybe lose the snares, but bring you to an altered version of the map that's like an actual DREAMWORLD. Like having dream pallets spawn sporadically or obstacles shifting around.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

if someone can explain how pressing space to vault/drop a pallet, running around in a large circle and then pressing space to vault/drop a pallet again is skillful then I'll explain how freddy is skillful.

this is the stupidest thing i’ve ever read. looping has so much mind game to it and is literally the only way to hold off the killer. if looping took no skill barely anyone would ever get hit. let’s also not mention that when looping with windows you have so much more to predict and the killer has a lot of input in chase. not to mention the killer is in control of the direction the chase goes and can push it anyway they please.

Knowledge of looping, efficiency, time, prediction, outplaying, savouring and avoiding all take skill to do. looping is possible the most skilful thing in dbd for both killer and survivor. (except freddy and spirit cause they take no skill at all)

Also what do you mean billy is an m1 killer? he literally has a chainsaw that can be used at loops, as mobility, as velocity, insta down and patrolling. if anything he’s the most m2 killer you can get.

Talking to you is like arguing with a brick wall, just another whiny entitled killer main.

No, M2 Killers are killers who are relying on their Secondary weapon / attack more than their primary. For example, Huntress is an M2 killer, she can be looped but she is going to rely on her hatchets (her M2) for hits and downs.

  • My heart sinks when I come up against a Freddy cause usually they always annihilate the team with very little ease. For starters I think there needs to be more time between automatically going into the dream state or just make it to where Freddy has to hit you. It just feels like it’s a forced mechanic to make the match longer and more grueling. Not to mention freddys extendo arms are awful. He can hit you around the corner, over the hill and through the woods, all the way to grandmas freakin house.

  • And yet playing survivor is even more easy and many more plays survivor.

  • The fact that he doesn't have to do anything to get his power is what makes him great!

Out of all the killers there's only about 1 in 5 whos power isn't controllable by what the survivors do, which is sad tbh

If anything he's incredibly weak without pgtw, surge or some other gen slowdown perk as long as you have someone on your team good at chases.

However if you give him a decent aura reading perk and pgtw or a decent gen slowdown then it's pretty much a guaranteed 3k.

Used to run pgtw, bbq, stbl, and nurses on him and there was maybe only 2 matches that stand out as frustrating 1-2ks but it was against all rank 1 survivors on comms and they were in it to win it like nobody's business.

I think they just need to adjust the passive sleep timer, that's the only thing I find annoying about playing against him.

  • @WishIcouldmain

True since pallets are a resource the whole team manages. If nothing is in reach though, that falls on the survivors for not recognizing they are out positioned and acting accordingly. Choosing the direction to break away mainly rest with survivors if they played the loop properly and gained some distance.

  • I cant wait to find you in a lobby and devour/undying you out of the game on first hook!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't mean Freddy is skilled. I don't want to play someone with a lame and easy playstyle. I want to face Huntress's and Pyramidheads instead of yawn Freddy.

Well, that's you. Remember, it's a casual game. Survivors, more often than not, aren't skilled, but what's being done about that? Nerf undying because they can't let go of meta perks or get off gens.

actually I don't even want to discuss with him anymore, talking with him is always same, survivor bad killer rules, survivor whine killer never whine.

while majority of players agree that Freddy and Spirit needs nerf / changes into how they play, some loud minority keep saying how balanced and how skillful that killer is.

  • @GannTM said:

I mean, you pretty much just broke it all down there. He’s not very fun to play as well to me. I hope his upcoming rework makes him more skill based without gutting him. I haven’t played DBD long enough to know how it feels to play as and against old Freddy, but he seemed pretty interesting. Maybe bring that back while giving some tweaks to keep him a fairly strong killer.

Old freddy had to put you asleep and you get hit by a penalty slow down until you messed up a skill check. He can see you outside of his terror radius as if he has every aura reading perks on. I main him at that time but now not anymore.

I like to run pallet freddy with blood favor just for fun.

  • I think the reason why you can't crouch over the snares is the idea that if you wanted to avoid it you can wake up and now you can run, walk, crouch, teabag whatever you feel like over it and nothing is going to happen until you fall asleep. That being said, he isn't a "skilled killer" he's a basic killer. He doesn't take hardly anything to learn, just map awareness which is a basic skill everyone playing should know.

Yes its a very hard skill to master that is not picking any of the dream pallet addons.

  • He isn't. He's a rework that was phoned in with the sole intent of making him viable while neglecting to keep him fun and interesting and he needs a fat revert.

  • Freddy isn't OP. People just like to suicide against him. Just like they liked to disconnect against him, back when he was released 2 years ago and when he effectively was the weakest killer in the roster.

  • He is very easy to use, i don't think you need much effort to play as him. Who said he requires skill? lol

In any case for me every killer that don't demand skill at nurse lvl are easier to play as or at least more chilled.
