Will dev's EVER fix the gen speed?

FFS this has been a huge and apparent problem that has been given bandaid fixes that fixed NOTHING. Will they ever actually fix it? I mean, unless losing a gen for every chase is still fine and 'We need to snowball'. Spoiler, it isnt and it's about the same level of fun as getting facecamped by bubba

You don't balance a game around the top 5% and screw over the 95%. That literally is the worst way you could possibly balance a game like this.

Yeah well most game developers and gamers alike disagree with you. Its not about "accomidatiin" its about having a game thats fairly balanced. Balance is not about outcomes, its about what is possible. They didnt balance monopoly and set game rules around which piece won more often, thats stupid. They set tge game rules in a fair way and who ever wins wins. Right now it is possible for you to go into a game as survivor and win 100% of tge time based on your skill level. Right now it is not possible for me as a killer to go into a match and win 100% of the time based on my skill level.

And I dont mean that killers have to win 100% of the time for the game to be balanced, what I mean is the absolute best survivors will always beat the absolute best killers unless RNG seriously screws them. That is not balance.

Why would you ever balance a casual game around the best players? Great players are very uncommon in this game. If you were to balance around the best of the best you'd throw the majority of your playerbase out the window to accommodate the small number that are very good. If you balance this way in a casual game, you lose most of your casual players, the ones who make up a massive chunk of your playerbase. This is a fantastic way to kill your game.

For the majority, the game is well balanced.

Gen speed isn’t a problem. It’s already been nerfed please stop complaining. Killers have access to quick easy downs and kills via abilities, Mori’s, tunneling, camping, slugging, exposed, traps, high mobility. Why would anyone want to stare at a progress bar longer? How is that fun for them? Think of these things. Work on improving your skills as killer. In red ranks against good killers even without Mori’s (sometimes even perks) have done exceptionally well keeping survivors off gens. Why can’t you?

A lot of this is because many people usually have to play the meta killers in order to have a chance or use meta perks. That or they are someone like otz, but otz is a dbd god and asking people to match his skill is just near importance. So what your suggesting is that we all need to be dbd gods or just play the meta everygame and never do anything else. Why do you think someone like bubba gets his ass handed to him constantly? He isnt a meta, hes more for trying builds and casual games. Those are scarce. And I agree with your points (except gen speed), when I do play survivor holding r1 gets boring quick and some new objective should be added, like themoonrise. Ebony mori is a big problem and needs to messed with, such as activating on death hook or when all gens are completed. Slugging does get annoying but its countable with perks. You may say to use a perk is unfair, but someone detested that in this thread already. Camping is rarely acceptable and ruins games for the other team, like tunneling, but DS helps a little at least, not saying tunneling is ok tho. And the nerds. I brought that up in my first statement, they have been nerfed yes, but it was bandaid fixes that have done nowhere near enough. Maybe around 5 or so extra seconds of gen repair? wooooow so helpful.

This is just so weird of a complaint. Watch any good killer's stream and they 3-4K 95% of their games. That indicates if you're having an issue you're just not as good as you think you are.

  • Look guys, the thing is, when Pop is a MUST perk in any killer when you're playing in the purple/red ranks, it's really telling something. Just saying.

And how many of these streams are the survivors absolute potatoes, because every stream I watch they get survs that cant loop and cant do gens. Also, these guys are playing this for a living, they are obviously going to be better than the average player, like I said earlier, asking someone to play as good as otz, tru3, etc. Is absolutely foolish and is not a valid arguement

Nope. Wrong. Theres nothing casual about the skill gap required, theres nothing casual about the grind, and theres nothing casual about the messages people send when they lose. Any game that requires literally hundreds of hours to get good at is not casual. Claiming otherwise is just simply disingenious af

"Casual is when you hop on to a game to chill with a bunch of mates and just have an overall enjoyable experience. I think Competitive play comes in when you want to win your next game to “rank up” or improve your stats. The drive to improve and get better with every match you play."

This is the first thing that comes up when you type casual vs competitive. The majority of DBDs playerbase doesn't have a drive to improve in every match they play. Hence, why the majority of the playerbase is bad at the game. The game isn't as competitive as you'd like to think it is. Just because there are a few here and there who get salty at the game doesn't mean it's a competitive game.

Oh, this is also another good one.

"A casual gamer is a player who enjoys any video game without investing significant time to it, playing it spontaneously, irregularly, or infrequently. The term casual may also be used as a derogative noun, to describe a player who is not fully committed to playing a video game at a high level"

The majority AREN'T invested into playing this game at its highest level. Which is why many are bad at the game. They play it casually.

Bruh a fair amount of players play a lot to try and reach rank 1 so they can be among the best. It's a competitive game with POSSIBLE casual aspects. 9.9 times out of 10 there are more competitive aspects

Many players could care less for rank. It means nothing. It proves and shows nothing. Rank 1 doesn't mean you're among the best because many there are very bad at the game.

You can play a competitive game casually. That doesnt make the gsme itself casual.

Ill repeat myself for those in the back, no game that requires literal actual hundreds of hours to get good at is casual. Not 1.

  • So I've reached red ranks once again. And the thing I notice is that they'll get really good early gens done and die within 2-3 gens being completed.

Best way I can think of to fix the gen speeds is to make them go in regular speeds with the first 25-40% and then progressively slow it down more or have it the opposite, slow within the first 30-40% and then let it progressively speed up.

I've also seen killers complain about "gen rushing." Which, I don't really see as a such thing as gen rushing, just bad pressure. I think gen speeds are okay because killers need to learn when to leave chase to pressure gens. I had a game as survivor where we put in 3-4 gens before the killer got a single down. That's just bad pressure. Surprise surprise that he had NOED which only secured him a single kill.

  • Stop being a bad killer. Its as simple as that.

    1) Don't go after survivors that you find not on generators

    2) Don't over commit to chases

    3) Learn when to just hit and move on to another survivor

    4) Corrupt Intervention/Slowdown perks

    5) Play a killer that compliments your weaknesses. If you're trash at looping, play a killer that makes it harder. (Except Freddy. He's OP and Freddy shaming needs to be a thing)

    6) Slug if you need to pull people off gens in a bind

I don't like that argument. In reality, the chases are dictated by the survivor depending on what killer you are playing. All you can do is run the strong loops in the correct direction to deny as many vaults as possible. There are some mindgames by hiding your red stain, but an attentive survivor won't fall for them often and they can harm you more than they can help you. Against good survivors, all you are doing is encouraging mistakes. It is only a handful of certain killers that ignore the loops and allow you make plays on your own.

If you go watch some of the best SWFs in the game play on twitch, you will see them 4 man out killers almost nonstop. It's not rare for them to only give up a 1k for 8+ hours in a row, and they don't use items. A 12 hook game isn't possible at all with the majority of the killer roster into teams like that. High ranking survivors will frequently run 3-4x second chance perks each, which makes tunneling/slugging/camping much less viable, even though those are basically the only strategies to snowball at high ranks. Snowballing is required, because as I mentioned earlier, there is no time to do 12 hooks in game that can last 4 minutes or less.

Generator Repair speed is fine. It's gen regression speed that is a problem. If you don't have PGTW then kicking a gen is literally a detriment to you 99% of the time. 320 Seconds to regress a generator from 99% to 0. That's over 5 minutes. Solo gen repair speed is 80 seconds. That's ridiculous. I say increase gen regression from 320 seconds to 240 or maybe even 160. That's still a decent amount of time but it would allow Killer a lot more freedom in pressuring gens.

Agreed. I feel like I need PGTW in every single one of my loadouts as kicking a gen without it does nothing IMO.

  • @pseudechis said:

Gen tapping shouldn't be a thing you can stop the regression in a second without any animation. If they are going to leave gen regression speed where it is then a survivor should have to start repairing it to stop it. I don't think that will tilt the game. When was the last time you ran past something and tapped it with your finger and it magically repaired itself.

    Just a thought.

To further the gen tapping thing. I was playing Plague, I contaminated the gen they were clearly going for and kicked it. I figured I'd get to regress it a bit or they get sick. Turns out you can just tap it to undo regression and not get infected because it's so fast.

They mentioned in the stream today that they have a new feature similar to end game collapse for the start of the game to slow things down coming soon. So yes, they already said they are working on it.

If survivors actually got decent bloodpoints for games and had something else to do other than gens and totems, they would probably not just jump on a gen. Unlike killer, who gets to play the whole match, survivors can get tunnelled or mori'd out of the game early and not get the opportunity to earn additional points. There need to be other things that gave more points that would incentivize those other actions.

    ^This

Just because the survivors are really good and work 4 different gens from the get-go doesn't mean every survivor group does. You can't balance the game against the SWF-Seal Team 6. Killers already get more than 2 kills on average, according to the last time stats were release by Devs in November, so if anything, gen speeds need to be increased not decreased.

Ya must be smoking something. This has nothing to do with SWF, you just confirmed it yourself!! When the match starts, if there are 4 different survivors on 4 different gens, Most killers can only chase off one. If this survivor capitalizes on a few of the maps best loops (sometimes the killer has to oblige to take away that loop option if it’s a strong one)...that means the other 3 survivors will pop their gens in less than 1 minute 30 seconds. Looking at this mathematically, without even trying, 4 random survivors not SWF can have 60% game completion within the first 1 minute 30 seconds. This is NOT the fault of the survivors, they’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing. The problem is speed.

This. I showed this in another thread last night. These games were back to back, both groups were swf

    20200527_190510.jpg 20200527_190448.jpg

It should be pretty obvious which group was focused on gens and which wasnt. Its not about rank, its not about swf, its about gen speeds.

With that said I'll restate that increasing the base time of generators isnt a solution. The game needs non optional secondary objectives.
