Legion mains, a quick word?

Not afraid to say this but I suck as killer. The Ghostface is the only killer I can do well with. However I've recently picked up Legion and he's alot of fun. Does anyone have any tips for playing them or even any good builds?

I'd appreciate any advice, thank you.

PS, please ignore my name it's a joke

  • I like ruin, surveillance, Thana, and sloppy

  • My build with them right now its

    • Thanathophobia
    • Discordance
    • Enduring
    • BBQ (i occasionally switch it to spirit fury)

try to cancel your power as you get pallet stunned, base stun after frenzy is 5 seconds and getting stunned with a pallet is just 2 seconds, so it really saves you time.

  • I have one fun build, M&A, Bamboozle, Fire Up, Thanatophobia.

For that fast vault speed, also it block windows, so no going back through the window until your power runs out, M&A for even easier first hits and thana for slowing the game down.

  • Before I use to run

    • Ruin
    • BBQ
    • Thana
    • Sloppy

It was a good slow down build but now ruin is gone and sloppy doesn’t work with legion’s power I had to change it sadly. Now what i’ll usually run is

    • BBQ (for location)
    • PGTW (gen pressure)
    • I’m All Ears (ending chases faster)
    • Enduring (to not care about loops)

For tips i’d say only use frenzy when you know other people are around, to get a hit and block pallets, travel faster, and to get a hit before someone gets to a pallet (your lunge is longer in frenzy so if someone is running to a pallet use it to try and get a long distant hit.)

  • Monitor and Abuse is a very strong perk on Legion. Not only does it give you a bigger detection range with killer instinct, but it also helps prevent survivors from running away when you're still 32m away. I suggest running it all the time on Legion and Plague

You will pretty quick realize, how bad this killer does in games.

  • Stolen sketchbook+legion pin with thanataphobia, pgtw, enduring, dying light works well. You can swap out dying light for ruin if you want. The point of this build is to discourage them from healing and play in a similar fashion as plague. Stolen sketchbook will help you to injure more people during 1 frenzy and then get back to the first person if they started mending right away. Enduring will punish injured survivors who stun you with a pallet during frenzy - just run straight through the pallet and you'll be next to the survivor after the stun.

  • I play more with the hit'n run tactic in the early game. Just to slow the game a bit down.

Later after a few minutes have gone I usually try to tunnel a survivor down. For 2 reasons:

-To lure more survivors in a area I know (because people will try to rescue this one survivor)

-To slow the game even more down, because even in the worst case 2 guys can't do gens in this time. Sometimes even more, if more as 1 trys to rescue the hung up survivor.

While the survivors trying to sneak in to the hooked survivor, I usually try to damage the gens and hunt other survivors down that not try to safe the one survivor.

After the hooked survivor is rescued I turn back and try to hook either the unhooker, or the hooked one again - depending on which one I see first.*

*However, if the survivors rescue the hooked one really fast in a few secounds, I try to patrol the area with a bit of distance, next time. Far enough so that they doesn't hear my tr and hopefull not see me.

But that I only do in the rar cases where this happens because it hurts also my map pressure.

    ------------------

That's my playstyle of the Legion.

I do it with all of the Legion perks and Stridor (a Nurse Perk) since my sounds are sometimes a bit messed up and so I am happy to have a bit of help there.

Edit: But I am not sure if that is something a beginner should do, since I don't use any slow down perks.

I would advice you to throw either Iron Maiden, or Mad Grit away and use instead Pop goes weasel (Clown perk if I remember me correctly) to slow the gens even more down.

    Edit²: Before I forget it:

Raging_Ryuga is a YouTuber. He has a lot of Videos about the Legion. So maybe you find there also a little bit of help by watching his videos.

  • I had made a long post about new Legion with some useful info, you can see it here:

Dev stream made this official: this Legion is here to stay. In this case, let’s throw out the window all the negativity and try to learn how to proficiently play them and have some fun - this post will be very long and go in great details on what, in my opinion, is one of the best play styles with this killer.

    Disclaimer: an exception

Ok, let’s get this out of the way immediately: while what you’re going to read is a general guide proven right in the vast majority of games, you can always find a super organised swf team in a very survivor sided map - in those cases yes, you could fail, but that’s ok - if you really expect to play a killer that can win every game, what you actually want is a very unbalanced and broken game, so move on, this topic is not for you.

What Legion does not do very well

There has been a bit of a misunderstanding on what Legion power actually does, mainly due to the different iterations of Legion. Basically, it seems a good bunch of the community thinks that Legion is a slow down killer because of the ease in injuring survivors and mending time after Deep Wound has been applied.

While those two things are undeniable, by themselves they are not enough to make the game slow down enough. In fact, the game could even speed up.

Simply imagine: you are a very good looper and you find yourself injured almost immediately against a Legion, what do you do? You heal yourself, wasting your time since Legion can easily injure you again, or just do the generators? Thanatophobia adds a 16% slow down in a best case scenario, that’s just a bit more of 10 seconds of a generator, which is much less than the time needed to heal yourself (especially if multiple times). So yeah, you can’t rely on people healing as a slow down.

You can slow down the game with Legion, but that’s not because of their power per se, it’s more because of map pressure and the perks / add-ons we’re going to see.

    What Legion actually does

Legion is probably the best tracker in the game, and one of the few killers able to preserve tokens of Save The Best For Last (STBL). Plus they have a very high mobility, which will be very helpful to move around in certain scenarios.

For who didn’t already know: hits during Feral Frenzy do not count anymore as Basic Hits, meaning that while one can’t apply any debuffs like the Mangled effect of Sloppy Butcher, you also won’t lose tokens of STBL.

With this in mind, let’s finally go into a normal game.

    The Build

Hex: Ruin - you need to have a slow down perk for at least a few seconds. The first hit is too important, and if gens are flying before you have found someone, and possibly broke a couple of pallets, you’re in for a very difficult game

Pop Goes The Weasel - you won’t have time to go around and kick generators, that’s why you need something to slow the game quickly and strongly. Also, in extreme cases you can even use your FF to quickly reach a pivotal generator to pop.

Monitor & Abuse - this is a controversial perk for Legion: FF heartbeats are based on your Terror Radius, and M&A increases it during a chase (while it’s reduced when not chasing). You have to keep this in mind, and use it to your advantage. In fact, this downside is actually what will make you quickly understand if and when to go for another survivor or just take the stun and continue the chase. The other reason why we’re going to use this perk is to simply close distance to generators before survivors run away from you.

Save The Best For Last - eventually, you’ll almost become a fully committed M1 killer, and that’s only because of STBL. Without it, your games will be much, much harder.

    The Add-ons

There are a lot of add-ons that you can use, not everyone is a game changer, but one that you should always use, if you are not going for a Iridescent Button game, is a Pin. The Legion Pin applies the Broken effect, while the Defaced Smiley Pin applies the Mangled one. In my opinion the latter is the best - as previously stated if survivors can’t heal, they’ll just do generators, if they can, well, that’s up to them. If they want to heal, they’ll be slowed down considerably, if they don’t want to, that’s fine as well, and we’ll see why.

If you want, use add-ons that increase your FF duration, they are very good, but in my numerous games I found out they are not that important, now that FF speed is increased. Also remember that thanks to M&A you’re going to chain hits only on survivors that are close by.

    The Goal

In order to win the game Legion needs three things (in order of importance):

    • as much tokens as possible of STBL
    • false sense of security for survivors
    • injured survivors

Everything else is the same as for every other killer: 3 generators close by, keep everyone occupied, don’t waste too much time in a single chase, bait pallets and so on and so forth - but since this is true for every killer, I’m not going to go too much into it.

    Early Game

Ok, we spawn and the first thing to do is to find a survivor. I usually go in a somehow distant area where there are a couple or more generators to check - if Ruin is not in my path that’s the best, but I leave it up to you on how to approach this. Once you find the survivor, there are two things to consider

    • is the survivor the obsession?
    • is the survivor on the very edge of the map? if so, how likely it is that there’s another survivor nearby?

If the survivor is the obsession, the smartest thing to do is to go into FF and hit her, if you see someone with FF go for it, it doesn’t matter if they are very far away, you just want their general position and M&A will help to catch them eventually. Downing the obsession at this point of the game won’t help you at all, so as a general rule, just use her to find other survivors.

If it’s not the obsession, the second point applies: if the likelihood to find another survivor nearby is not the best, you should consider hitting the survivor with a basic hit - it’s 1 token for STBL in your pocket, and you don’t risk missing your FF hit, which would hurt you a lot. However, don’t waste time - if you can’t hit them quickly, you need to go into FF and close the deal.

In any case, let’s assume that you used your FF - what you want now is to lose the chase to decrease your Terror Radius, and go for the nearest survivor, rinse and repeat. If the first survivor is running toward the center of the map then you can consider not losing the chase, but just keep following him - even if you can’t find another survivor to hit, you’ll be in a better spot once your power ends, and you will still have a survivor to chase anyway.

As always, don’t overcommit on a single survivor and cut your losses - if you can bait a couple of pallets but you still don’t see the second hit nearby, just take your loss and move on.

During your first chases try to create a mental map of the generators which are being worked on - if you can interrupt and hit someone that’s terrific, but otherwise don’t bother too much kicking generators: what you really want is your first hook.

From 1-2 tokens to Mayhem (a.k.a. Mid Game)

After your first hook you’ll have gained 1 or 2 tokens of STBL. That’s not a lot, but from now on everything will become much easier.

Recollect your mental map of the generators worked on and get there as quickly as possible. In this early phase I suggest to just walk there and preserve your FF: not only M&A could help and scratch marks will aid you find survivors, you can also expect a very quick save in the early game. That’s what you want, and this is time to get back very quickly.

In any case, if you are not at FF distance from the hook (meaning: you can't reach the hook without going into fatigue with FF starting from your current location), the best thing to do if you find an outpositioned survivor is to basic hit them.

This also applies if you are very near the hooked survivor - you will trade tracking and injuring potential for STBL tokens. Also you don’t really care if the survivor is getting saved under your nose, since a second hit on one of the two survivors is basically guaranteed at this point (3+ tokens).

On the contrary, if you are at FF distance from the hook, consider hitting with FF, and immediately run back to the hook if you see any heartbeat in that direction. If you don’t hear any heartbeat end your FF immediately, you absolutely don’t want to have it on cooldown while a survivor is still on hook.

Quick reminder: before you have maxed out your STBL tokens, always hit your obsession with a FF hit, no matter their distance. The only exception is if the obsession is already injured and a hit will result in a downed survivor.

    A brief Chasing Tip

Once you realise the looping skill level of every player, try to use the strongest looper for your first FF hit - he would most likely be able to escape from a chain hit anyway by running away preemptively, and you don’t really want to waste time. It will also help your confidence and decrease the team morale. Plus, when eventually you will strike him, he’ll probably not see that coming.

Considering that this also applies to the obsession, if you think you are in a good spot, consider wasting the strongest looper Decisive Strike. He’ll become the obsession and you will catch two birds with one stone later on.

…and a couple of Feral Frenzy Tips

As said, we want to chain hits only on survivors in our TR while M&A is lowering your TR. Sometimes what will happen is that you start going toward a heartbeat, the chase with the previously hit survivor ends (thus lowering your TR) and the heartbeats will disappear. That’s where you want to make a play: lose sight of the mending survivor (yeah, they will most likely mend right after you hit them…), find the right angle to approach them and end your FF. Most of the time they won’t realise immediately what’s happening, and you can hit them a second time very easily. However, don’t abuse this too much; in fact, try to use it only after you already run away a few times in the past - this will give them a false sense of security, and that’s where punishing them becomes easier.

Another very situational scenario is when you are able to chain hit 3+ survivors: by the time the fourth survivor is going to be hit, the first one will likely have already mended. If you hear his heartbeat, go back to him but end your FF before he can see you. Your goal is to not let them realise you are going again for them, since most of the time Legion will commit to a chase of the last hit survivor - certainly not the first one! You have their general location, they will feel somehow safe, it’s time to strike.

    Mayhem (a.k.a. 6+ STBFL tokens)

At this point of the game it is expected that a couple of survivors are constantly injured, maybe because of previous DW hits, maybe because of recent unhooks. In any case we don’t really need them injured (…aside for the obsession): with 6+ STBFL tokens once we hit a survivor there’s a very high chance of a second hit in a very few seconds. This is always true when more than one survivor are grouped together, but it’s invaluable when they are cornered.

This is where you will basically stop using FF to injure survivors, and will start using it to move around and Pop generators or track where survivors are located when someone is hooked (reason being: there’s a high chance more than one will be nearby, but if they aren’t.. you can commit to the chase!).

If you have 8 tokens of STBFL you can basic hit your obsession even if she’s not injured if you are confident you can chain a second hit: yes, you’ll lose 4 tokens, but having someone on hook is a good enough trade-off. Plus, 4 tokens are enough to quickly recover the lost ones from other survivors.

    On Borrowed Time

When you are still striving for 6+ tokens go for the hit: it’s better to gain a token now than to maybe down them later but still be unable to hook them due to Decisive Strike.

On the contrary, never ever ever ever hit an Obsession with a basic hit which was just unhooked. Losing 2 tokens to borrowed time is the worst thing that can happen to you. Just do what you are supposed to do: hit your obsession with FF and go for someone else.

    Late Game

Actually there’s really not much to say here. You should always have between 5 and 8 tokens of STBFL, survivors are being hit left and right and there’s no peculiar tactic for Legion at this stage of the game, so just do what you would do with every other killer: kill at least one survivor, have a couple of them on death hook, patrol generators and.. just play well :).

    On Killing the Obsession

Remember that before the death animation ends, you can still gain tokens for STBFL - you know what to do.

    Conclusion

Even if this post was very long, there are a lot of subtleties that I left behind, but you will figure them out as you go. This being said, if something doesn’t sound right to you let me know and I’ll try to explain it better, if I’m able to.

I really hope someone will find this post useful and will be able to have fun with this very controversial (but, in my opinion, very undervalued) killer. Yes, they still have some issues that I hope someday will be fixed, but please leave those considerations for other threads - this is the Legion that we have, and that’s about it for now.

P.S. I'm tagging a few people which may find this post useful, I apologise if that's not what they wanted :P @Sonzaishinai, @EleaticStranger, @Brucecastro81

Note that in the post I suggest to use Ruin, but this info is now outdated. Try BBQ instead.

  • Use your power against injured survivors ONLY if they're close together.

  • For some Legion gameplay I'm not familiar with many streamers who play Legion a lot or are actual Legion Mains, but you might want to look at Otzdarva's videos (both his Twitch stream vods and his YouTube uploads to his secondary channel, "not Otzdarva").

While he's actually a Trapper Main, Otz plays Legion quite extensively and you can learn a lot by watching him. He often experiments with different builds and explains why he picks this or that Perk, etc, and his strategy.

I play Legion sometimes (Susie), but I think overall Legion could definitely do with some buffs or even a complete rework from the ground up - however, the Legion is definitely playable and unless you find yourself up against some depip squad wannabes, you're probably going to have a fun time.

  • Sometimes is better to injure someone without Feral frenzy, depends if the surv is on the middle of the map, is hard to get the hit or if you don't need pressuere

  • Feral Frenzy

Feral Frenzy is a fairly simple power. It increases your speed, lets you fast vault pallets and windows, and gives Survivors Borrowed Time the Deep Wound effect when hit.

It only lasts 10 seconds at base, but it's power meter refills entirely after hitting a Survivor. Hitting a Survivor also reveals the location of other Survivors within the range of your Killer Instinct, as long as they are not downed or already afflicted with Deep Wounds. The location revealing 'heartbeat' effect will work on Survivors within lockers, and you can search lockers while using Feral Frenzy.

When the power ends it darkens and narrows your POV while slowing you down for about 4 seconds.

Feral Frenzy is best used around groups of healthy Survivors before ending the power to chase one Survivor.

    Legion's Add-ons

The best all around add-ons are Stolen Sketchbook and Mural Sketch, which increase the duration of Feral Frenzy by about 4 seconds. This can make a difference in any number of situations and makes it significantly easier to chain Feral Frenzy hits as long as Survivors are within range.

The rulers when stacked can be very helpful, shortening the time to recharge Feral Frenzy to about 15 seconds, down from 20 seconds.

Legion Pin and Defaced Smiley Pin are good when combined with the perks Thanatophobia or Blood Echoes, since these add-ons ensure Survivors will be injured longer or more often. These add-ons actively work against each other, so they're best combined with Stolen Sketchbook to help ensure you can chain Feral Frenzy hits.

Every other add-on is barely worth using. Frank's Mixtape will actively hinder you if you try to make use of it and Stab Wounds Study is completely useless.

    Legion Perks

Legion cannot down Survivors with their power. As a result, you'll spend at least some of your time chasing a Survivor. Perks like Enduring, Spirit Fury, Brutal Strength, Bamboozle, or Fire Up can make this a bit easier. None of these perks are general Killer perks though, so you may or may not have access to them.

Legion's tracking ability is limited, so tracking perks like Discordance, Whispers, Bloodhound, Nurse's Calling, Stridor, and Thrilling Tremors can be very useful. Discordance in particular is very good as it helps you find multiple Survivors so that you can make use of Feral Frenzy and injure them both.

Whispers also deserves mention as it is the best tracking perk in the entire game. If the perk icon is lit up, a Survivor is within range. If the perk icon is dim, there are no Survivors in your area. Using it can save you a lot of time, and makes finding a Survivor after closing the Hatch much easier. It's worth noting that this perk WILL go off when near hooked or downed Survivors.

Legion's power helps them injure groups of Survivors very quickly, making anti-healing perks more useful. However, different Survivors react to this differently, so care should be taken when selecting anti-healing perks.

For example, Nurse's Calling and Sloppy Butcher both penalize Survivors for healing to full health, but some Survivors won't heal at all when facing Legion; making these perks useless.

Perks like Thanatophobia, Blood Echoes, Bloodhound, and Stridor will be useful against Survivors like these; as their refusal to heal will hinder them. However, if the Survivors heal often they can limit your usage of these perks.

Ideally, one of each type of anti-healing perk should be used in unison, so that Survivors are "damned if they do and damned if they don't".

Other perks can be used on Legion, of course, but the aforementioned will have special synergy given Legion's power.

    TL;DR

Legion have bad add-ons, make Survivors injured a lot with power. Have fun.

  • Awesome, thank you all for the tips. I'll try to utilise these in to my playstyle and I'll try out the builds.

    Thanks again😁

  • In case it wasn't mentioned yet, new ruin is devastating on them.

IMO his best build for newer players is: Thana, enduring, pop and BBQ

Once you learn how to track without BBQ his best build is: Thana, enduring, pop and spirit fury. I usually trade SF for brutal strength as it is nutty AF.

I've mained Legion since release and this is what works for me, of course try other suggestions out and see what feels comfortable and viable for you. There is a few things id consider though:

    • Monitor and abuse gives people you are frenzying towards an earlier warning so they might start running making you not get the hit
    • Its very useful to have at least one chase perk, even if it is something like blood echo
    • Never take thanatophobia Off your builds, like, ever. Of course unless you want to im just saying its easily his best perk

Of course this is o p i n i o n and you should see what works for yourself :D

That would also be a good build for getting bp as Legion.

Ive always wondered how spirits fury and enduring was on Legion, since everyone lovvves stunning him out of his power for some reason lol. How is it? Hows your games usually go? I just recently p3d legion, and my plan was to use Thana, blood echo, pop, monitor on him. You rely on any addons on your build? Let me know!

    Dang since release? Impressive.

  • Legion is a killer without a power. I would not recommend playing them right now.

  • I used thana, monitor, PGTW and nurses

I had made a long post about new Legion with some useful info, you can see it here:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/114017/new-legion-how-to-play-them-right-long-post

Note that in the post I suggest to use Ruin, but this info is now outdated. Try BBQ instead.

Actually, new ruin may be one of the best hex perks on legion, deep wounds keep the survivors off of the generators which allows you to make them regress greatly.

  • for legion you always - ALWAYS - want to run Thanatophobia (teachable Nurse perk).

the idea is to force them to heal, which, given that you play a killer that can injure multiple survivors extremely quick, is going to be extremely helpful to you, as they now spend most of their time healing instead of working on gens.

and if they work on gens? you are a 115% mms killer, you can hunt them down normally and basically instadown them.

thats the other part you want to buff with perks: the chase.

i would recommend Brutal Strength (teachable Trapper perk) to get rid of pallets faster. some survivors will try to stun you with a pallet to get rid of your frenzy, which is a serious misplay on their part, as they've just wasted a pallet to get rid of something you passively get back over a short periode of time, aswell as having themselves outpositioned and being the target now.

a great combination for this would be Enduring (teachable Hillbilly perk), as survivors who pallet stun during your frenzy actually get you out of it faster than when you would cancel it, therefore you'll want to get pallet stunned. enduring buffs this effect and allows you to attack a lot faster now.

another great one is Discordance (teachable Legion perk), as it gives you the location of multiple survivors, allowing you to frenzy in and get more usage from your power and Tanatophobia.this is especially helpful during the early game.

other than that i'd say all the basic perks, such as Barbecue & Chili (teachable Cannibal perk) for long distance tracking and double points or Pop Goes The Weasel (teachable Clown perk) to fight generators that are progressed.

the only type of perks i would not necessarily recommend you to use would be tracking perks, as thats something you can easily and very effectively do with your power already.

  • Blood echo very underrated perk on legion

  • tl;dr

Perks: Ruin, thanatophobia, pop, monitor&abuse, nurses calling, discordance, bamboozle, bbq

never pick sloppy butcher as one of your add ons already has its effect

    Add ons:

first slot should be duration add on

second slot should be iri pen or one of the 2 pins (legion pin, decarved smile pin)

never run killer instinct add ons

There is multiple ways spirit fury works, it can beat low skill players that love to stun him (for some reason) and high skill players that get greedy or another loop. Assuming you have a very optimal team, your spirit fury will proc like once or twice but then they drop pallets early. Making them create more dead zones and if they don't heal (which is likely the case) they become a 1 shot down with also a bunch of pallets wasted.

Once again i'm personally not a fan of monitor at all, but that's just me and I've seen people say it works for them.

In all honesty i'm against add ons, I just don't see the use in them not saying their completely useless but they don't have a big enough effect on FF for me to use them. If i were to use them though i would run blades, fatigue reduction and recharge. Hope this helps :)

  • if you have Iridescent Button add on for him I would recommend trying this loadout-

Colorphobia, Thanataphobia, Unnerving presence and Pop

also use the Legion Pin add on as well to keep them injured for longer.

When I use this build I find people very rarely heal due to my map wide terror radius slowing down healing + thantat + being broken for 60 secs. Plus you still have gen pressure with Pop and missed skill checks thanks to Unnerving

Its not a usual Legion build but It makes nice use of his add-ons and slowing the game down

I get not everyone likes monitor, but I love sneaking up on survivors with it

Oh thank you very much for the response, sorry if my replies are short, this site on mobile makes it so hard to type for some reason.

Anyways have you tried blood echo on Legion yet? Its super good keeping people almost always exhausted.

Ok you have convinced me against moniter, I didnt think of it that way, it does give them a early warning to run during frenzy.

So you use brutal over spirits fury? Why is that, to my understanding brutal barely increases pallet breaking time at least from what ive seen in comparisons videos.

I understand the enduring tho, it has good power synergy bc you can just take a stun faster then frenzy heart attack lol

Im the same, i want to use no addons so i can learn the killer and stock up on addons so if i want to tryhard ill bring out addons.

Im in agreement tho, never gonna take off thana on him, so easy to keep people injured.

Oh short replies are fine, i like short posts anyway :D

I have not actually tried blood echo yet, but i know its good and another Legion main (Ryuga) runs it on some on his builds and he seems to do pretty well with it, utilising it well. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work anyway.

You should try monitor when you can, even if you think the negatives outweigh the positives everyone has different experiences. In fact to be honest id recommend trying a bunch of perks that you think might not work and try them. I was doing that and i found mindbreaker to be good against teams that love running sprint burst (obviously its still situational but its effect was noticeable).

I really shouldn't use brutal over spirit fury, I just run it because the kicking animation looks nice and i can kick generators in frenzy more efficiently, especially if i'm using pop. As well as im completely addicted to it, its like some people with shadowborn, they just cant take it off because it feels weird. Other than that SF is better in pretty much every way.

  • I'm a bit late to this party but here's my build.
