Proxy camping now???? You mean when you know there's survivors near by and you check round to find then. Survivors will call anything camping or tunneling.

Absolutely agreed, this is not camping, I've literally seen survivors hiding near by as I hook, if you dare look for them and don't immediately cross the level you are a camper.....

True camping is punishable, even if one survivor might be doomed, but the word gets thrown out for any killer that doesn't run away as soon as they hook.

Or worse, you do leave and have barely started on your way to some gen when the unhook happens, i.e. an unsafe unhook, if you dare turn around and attack these people then yup you're a camper too....

I wish someone would make a definitive video explaining what tunnelling/camping really are, as opposed to being the words just thrown out by people who made a bad decision.

  • One thing I think I've always found weird is what constitutes true tunneling, not that I don't get it but sometimes I don't think it applies.

If someone is hell bent on just removing you and tunnels, truly ignores better options, then that's obviously really annoying.

However if I am on the hook, maybe very recently hooked, then my teammate unhooks when they haven't given much time for the killer to go to check other gens/survivors then I am not surprised when they immediately return, and further I am not surprised or even annoyed at them for chasing me the injured one over the uninjured.

This is the key part, people seem to imply the killer has to chase the healthy survivor or else its tunneling. To me that's them picking the obvious choice and not ignoring better options (i.e. having tunnel vision). I don't blame a killer in that situation, I think the blame lies with the teammate who did a bad unhook.

What do people think about this? I don't think this is tunneling, as they aren't ignoring better options with tunnel vision, but it gets thrown around all the time.

  • It seems lots of comments saying "Netflix won't care, they have plenty of money". Which is true but seems to miss the point, having ST in DbD doesn't seem to me to affect anything, no one is going to buy a ST game because it's the exclusive place to use Steve/Nancy/Demo in a game.

Must be that the license had a set time but I don't understand why they wouldn't just OK a renewal, perhaps they wanted more money and Behaviour just didn't think it was worth it, especially as they can just collect sales money with a big incentive for players to grab them now.

  • It can be absolutely horrible, but I still believe that most people are decent, the vocal minority dominate the narrative of this game.

SWF red ranks is just an unenjoyable experience, taunting, clicking, and the rest, then they whine about queue times.

Really nice to see someone trying it, I wish more people played at least a bit of both sides for perspective. This can be a great game and the division, whilst understandable, is unnecessary.

  • Good to have humour on aspects of the game, this doesn’t play, I’m all for humour but this does cross that line and kind of disappoints.

  • I would love post game chat, has been surprisingly positive with same system people recently.

Mostly I just want to explain something and it’s not people being toxic to each other.

    Should definitely be a thing

  • Yea, my issue is even before understanding what this means as someone who has never really played trapped.

Why is this blocking the killer only route to the end?

I will play the survivor stuff but man, I love these challenges and the tree, but then so many odd decisions made in it.

Yeah right. And those with a bad internet that don't necessarily rage quit? What about them?

Ah yes, "get a better internet" or "play offline games"

That's a different aspect, again the devs will have to account for people's internet issues, happens to everyone at some point. Of course if it happens repeatedly soon after each other then either yes you shouldn't be playing at that moment because you are going to keep ruining others' games or they are just shutting down their system/game to get out of the game.

This is standard stuff in lots of games, but here it's the end of days despite us knowing next to nothing about it.

Your answer to what I was saying is "yeah right" and then you put quotation marks assuming my response.

If people are DCing repeatedly they should get bans, I wish they were longer than they currently are.

  • The stream said "Boon Totem Perks will give a brand new interaction to survivors standing next to a Dull Totem in a trial".

Interaction; So it has to be a perk that allows you to activate a dull totem into a boon totem, granting you your perk. So I don't think it will automatically activate, and I don't think it's proximity based, you'll have the choice to Boon or cleanse. Whether a Killer can get rid of it or if things like NOED would overwrite it we can't know yet.

People saying Killers don't need something else to hunt are correct, but also survivors with this sort of perk on would probably prioritse finding a totem in early game, which may give the killer a little extra time to get things rolling.

  • They aren't the same.

Visionary helps you find gens near you.

Deja Vu shows the three that are closest to each other, not you.

It's a good idea to get gens that are close to each other done, because if you need one last gen at the end and all 3 are together the killer can easily patrol them and keep you from finishing.

So i had balanced landing with it and i think its bugged because i got balanced landing and it got activated and it didnt count.

I think balanced landing can activate without the height being enough for the challenge.

Dead Dawg Saloon also a great level for it, either inside the saloon or off the balcony is definitely good enough, did the challenge last night.

Remember when they first tried MMR how bad it was? People with a few hours in game getting matched against people with thousands of hours? That was easy to solve: public outcry on every social media and it was just disabled.

Now, the *same* people who came up with that MMR are developing a system that will automatically ban players. I don't need any explanation, I don't want any explanation or guarantee. I just don't want an autoban system. Because imagine having to write a ticket to the support because you were unjustly banned, waiting for either a copy/paste reply that *might* say you got unbanned. No thanks.

Also imagine if it does work well, and those that DC selfishly and ruin other people's experience actually got punished as they deserve.

OP is correct, let's see how it works before flipping out, if it's exploitable it will indeed be terrible, but they will have factored that in. Personally I am all for a system which actually works, it's pretty normal in an online multiplayer game to be able to stop people abusing the game.

Yup, I don't even use Twitter really, but check this every so often. Always sorts it easily, though info on expiration is pretty unknown normally it seems so best to get it done as soon as possible.

A shame that the anniversary codes expired so quickly, have managed to get a couple of mates into the game, they could definitely do with 250k as the grind for newbies doesn't help the steep learning curve.

    Hey everyone,

Probably a stupid question here, but I’m very new to the game (got it like last week but I’ve been playing a lot and ranking up fast), and I’ve been watching the forums and subreddit for a while now and I read a LOT of posts about toxic/mean survivors. So, to kinda combat or balance out the ######### people, I’ve been trying to send every killer I play against a nice message. I’m not able to message everyone since I’m on console, so when I can’t do that I try to friend them to show that I like/appreciate them.

My question for the forum is; Do killers enjoy being nicely messaged and/or befriended?

I’m doing it to try to spread positivity, but if it’s actually just annoying or an inconvenience to people I’ll have to reconsider.

    Some context info:

sometimes killers message me back and then they’re always nice, but mostly they don’t reply.

I send messages like: “Thanks for the game! :)” Or “You really steamrolled us hahah. Good job!”

Absolutely, you never know when your message might be restoring their faith in the community after possibly receiving absolute vile for previous games.

Not sure which console you are on, but on Xbox the messages won't go into their normal Chat inbox unless they know you, so sometimes that could be the reason for the lack of reply, I normally check it every so often but I am sure lots don't.

The Greeks and the Romans didn't accept homosexuality, that's one of the biggest misconceptions about those people

It's not quite correct to say it wasn't accepted, they actually didn't identify sexuality in the way we do in modern times, the genders were irrelevant. It was active/passive roles linked to status and age, and they were very wrong by modern standards but not due to the gender of your partner; men with young boys, adult males taking teen wives were the norm.

But in term of "acceptance" of homosexual sex it was absolutely normal because there was no difference in their view between heterosexual and homosexual desires.

The vilification of homosexuality was not a thing in ancient times, it is a development over time, and pretty intrinsically linked to religious doctrine.

Wait until it's implemented? How about getting it ironed out before it's implemented? That's one of the concerns. We know how cryptic these devs are.

That is somewhat ignoring my point. You are assuming it will be implemented badly, as that is an assumption and not confirmed it seems pointless to me for people to flip out.

Once it is implemented we will know if it is done well, if it can be exploited then obviously it is a bad thing, but we simply don't know.

So why not assume they will have accounted for this and wait until it is implemented and we know.

People who selfishly DC need bans, the current system doesn't do anything.

  • @AngryKiller said:

Nah, there is no compromise. All survivor players are evil and have zero respect for the killer both as a person or as a player. They don't care about our fun or what's fair. You can even see it in this forum, survivors make everything about themselves. BHVR spat on us, called Moris toxic and they are gonna get nerfed again, while at the same time adding A HUGE indoor maps with god pallets, and what are survivor players doing? "Oh gee i wonder how pretty my LGBT charm will be!".

Survivors never asked for a key nerf, they got Mori nerfed so they put the issue to rest

Survivors don't care about the hatch being unfair for the killer and project how they think they are entitled to win because their team is bad onto the killer saying we're the ones entitled for wanting a reward for playing well

    Survivors. Are. Evil.

Which is hilarious because when Legion came out, even killer players were crying how OP he was, and now he's complete trash because of all of you. But god forbid a survivor will ever not be self absorbed and thinks for a second that keys might need a nerf.

That's quite the over generalisation in my view, do you only play killer?

  • I would guess it's unfortunately just about the next chapter DLC. If it was Resident Evil related and big they would probably have showed it because they generate more hype and had a keen audience there watching.

I think if it is related it's likely only cosmetics.

Would be very happy to be wrong and it's actually something big.

  • It isn't just this game, it's common on any social media, vocal minority of morons. When a sports team changes their pic to support pride you see horrifically ignorant comments, almost makes you ashamed to support the same team, before remembering these people are simply narrow-minded intolerant #########.

If anything it makes me want to use the charm more to show support for the community even if not a part of it, and bonus of annoying them because if any DbD player deserves true toxicity on them it is those spouting that bigoted small-minded rubbish.

  • Yea I agree with the other comments; why DC even at the end? You are affecting the fun of both the killer and the other survivors. Because you aren't there you are reducing the chances for the other survivors even if it's minimal. You also could likely affect someone's challenges/daily rituals, there's just no need.

Any DC is selfish in my view, impacting others for the benefit of what? A minute of extra wait. "there was little fun left to be had" this only applies to you, so yes it is selfish.

If someone has an internet issue then that is one thing but to purposefully DC is just obnoxious, no reason to do it, at any stage. I would be in favour of larger penalties for someone who DCs often.

Just because you don't care about your bloodpoints at the end, to me just giving other's a chance at more is reason enough, they might actually need them.

If you are on the hook it is particularly absurd, you should try and buy your teammates any amount of time, even if minimal it could make the difference. If you are slugged then hide/recover, someone might get to you even if it takes them a while.

If it annoys you to be punished, then don't do things that cause it.

  • I like the look of the perks in general, maybe they aren't the best ever but should be fun.

Mainly I am happy it's Leon, and Nemesis as he seems interesting.

For anyone who is playing the PTB; Can Leon do multiple flashbangs per trial? I would assume so after getting another 50% done, but thought I would check.

    Cheers

K well I'm just saying if it goes live, it's gonna be a disaster you watch.

We have no idea how it will work yet it's already going to kill the game?

If it is exploitable then they will have messed it up and will revise it or scrap it completely. Why not wait to see how it works before jumping to extremes.

If it leads to people who selfishly DC then I am all for it, the current system does nothing.

I mean, they LITERALLY said "if you get a certain amount of reports, we'll take action"

It's not an overreaction. They LITERALLY said it.

Yes, but they didn't elaborate. We do not know the conditions needed for a ban. So the hysteria is unwarranted at the moment.

If it is implemented and leads to unfair bans then everyone will be up in arms and it will be revised or scrapped. They will have of course seen the potential for exploitation and presumably planned around it.

But why can't we all just hope it is done well, the current system does nothing and in my view people who DC should be banned as they are selfishly ruining multiple people's experience for the sake of a couple of minutes, it's pathetic and needs addressing.

I am hopeful for a system that actually punishes those who ruin a game, like in many multiplayer games.

  • @BenZ0 said:

It is not doing nothing, it does even the reverse.

What? I am saying the current "system" does nothing. I am not sure you understood my previous comment properly.

Not having a way to punish those that do deserve bans is not a good thing, they have announced they are trying to fix that. If that leads to unwarranted bans then all would agree it's a bad thing, but we have no idea as yet. So I agree with Jasix and the others saying that wild speculation does no good.

  • @Jasix said:

Yes I think completely overreacting with no information is the wise thing to do in this situation.

Well said, why not wait to see how it is implemented? If it is done badly and leads to undeserved bans then people can flip out as much as they like.

The current report system does nothing clearly, and it's not a good thing, if someone is ruining the game for others with DCs repeatedly then they deserve a ban.

  • Do we know how long it will be in run-time?

  • Do we know how long it will be in run time?

  • Not sure Quentin is even in the game if being honest.

    For Killer I'd say Clown.

  • Leon

    Nemesis

Not even sure which killer I dislike the most, probably Hag, barely have used her so will be a good excuse....though I hope not needed.

  • I am actually a bit more intrigued by the line "novel ways to sacrifice or survive inspired by the renowned franchise", maybe it's nothing big but could be a new mechanic which would be interesting.

Otherwise I am hoping for Leon, and for killer Nemesis but also fine Mr X or even Wesker.

  • Never face camp is definitely my primary rule.

If you are clearly newish or just bad then I almost always let at least one person go. Also let good players go if it was a fun and competitive match, challenge dependant though.

On survivor side it would be great to have a universally understood meaning for the arm movement on the hook, if a teamate is creeping in to get me and the killer is near or coming back to check I normally use it to try and warn them, but just as easily could be interpreted as "come get me now"....

  • PR = public relations.

As in the press release could just be using words to hype up the announcement, not necessarily thinking "well if we say iconic, then it has to be someone from the old games"

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather they are from older ones as I don't have RE Village but I think the focus on the word "iconic" isn't a completely solid argument.

  • @Avignon said:

uhm can that be a swf? there's 3 crossplay.

Also dono if you usually pack franklin's but yeah, a 3 flashlight lobby, just swap it in. Survivors tend to be lemmings over their dropped items. Even if they recover them safely you're wasting about as much time with it as a totem cleanse. Also slugging nobody was running unbreak-a-bill. Also hillarious when you're playing some kind of ranged killer versus those clickers.... or someone that can break pallets fast ala billy, bubba or demopupper.

Why can't it be SWF with crossplay?

Can have someone on PC, PS, Xbox, and all be chatting through Discord.

  • @onemind said:

The one thing I dont get is why do people think lady.d is iconic it takes months even years to be iconic she may be famous

Are they saying she's iconic? Or simply saying it can still be her despite the use of that word in the press release. Because those are quite different things.

I don't think the use of "iconic" is as clear an indicator as others' do, it just looks like PR talk to me.

  • Personally I am hoping for Leon and fine with any of Nemesis/Mr X/Wesker even.

However I think the debate about the use of "iconic" has gotten a bit warped, yes it does imply someone who is an icon of the series, so not Lady D, but also it's a press release and can easily just be PR hyperbole. So I wouldn't read too much into that, thankfully we will know shortly, then everyone can flip out about a known thing at least instead of raging at each other for interpretation of wording.

  • @Idontknowtbh said:

Would you know if it makes a sound when you're nearby?

I heard the sound it makes when it spawns, but I've also heard a little laugh when looking for it. I don't know if it's because I'm getting close or a random noise?

I am pretty sure it makes a noise when first spawning, but it's map wide so no indication that it's close, the next sounds are when it moves which happens every so often in the EGC.

  • Yea it can be very frustrating when you get a run of being matched with people who have way more experience. Just try and keep chill, maybe take a break from the game for a little bit.

I also know how irritating some players can be, gloating is very common as you match lower ranks. Nothing really to be done about it, if you are gonna reply it's best to flip it with some sarcastic comment rather than playing into their desire to make you salty.

Basically they are ######### and don't seem to realise that by pissing off killers by gloating and insulting they are increasing the chances of things they don't like; face-camping, true tunneling, longer wait times etc.

  • @El_Gingero said:

I pretty much never get tunnelled or face camped. Sure if a team mate unhooks me in front of the killer, they’ll down me again, but that’s to be expected and is not tunnelling.

I’ve honestly only been face camped a handful of times in the last 500 or so hours of gameplay.

Exactly, that's not tunneling and if I blame anyone it's my teammate doing the unsafe unhook. People throw tunneling out for anytime the killer re-hooks them quickly, even if they played badly.

Camping is rubbish in my opinion, you are just gifting loads of time to the other survivors to do gens.

  • @jester20k said:

Guys all these difficult killer challenges are very easy, just farm them. 95/100 times the survivors will work with you and they don't care if you hit them with corrupt purge

Out of interest how do you agree to farm with survivors? Is this easier to coordinate on PC?

I don't like the idea of this but I suppose to get an absurdly annoying challenge I would.

  • Camping I just don't understand, and trolling is obviously by definition a crappy way to play, never face-camp as it's a bad strategy and fun for no one.

True tunneling is very rare, people complain about tunneling when two survivors are running from the hook and the killer chooses the injured one, that's not tunneling. Tunneling in my view is only when a killer ignores all better options to just eliminate one player (tunnel vision), going past someone that would be an easy hit, is doing a gen etc. Again this should lead to gens being done and a bad time for one player but a win for the rest.

The only answer is people playing both sides to actually understand, but tunneling is thrown out all the time incorrectly.

  • @gibblywibblywoo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/250736/killers-lets-have-a-chat-would-ya

A lot of killers (and survivors) are brought into this game watching -certain- content creators. These content creators make excuses every time they get outplayed, the players that watch them almost universally do this too, and one look at their chat corroborates it. I've questioned plays by big streamers before when I KNOW they misplayed and their entire chat would jump down my throat and call me a troll ____ main.

They like to be victims and have something to complain about, they aren't actually interested in improving from losses.

Of course there's also players that just aren't used to playing Asyms or games where they are on their own and don't know how to cope with the loss being thier fault.

I think this is a very good point. There's also a "celebrity" fandom aspect, they won't want their favourite player to have messed up, just as fans of sports teams aren't unbiased about their own team's defects. This would naturally breed excuse making which then filters through to their play.

Playing both sides a good amount is the best way to fully understand what happened in situations where a one side main player might find an excuse.

  • Something I have been curious about since starting this game is tunneling and what it is actually defined as.

I have always thought it is fully ignoring more logical choices to hunt down and eliminate one particular survivor. Which of course sucks for that survivor.

However people seem to throw it around anytime a killer takes down the injured player after an unhook. To me that isn't tunneling to the same level of having tunnel vision. If my teammate unhooks me unsafely and the killer is coming back in and chooses me, the injured one, to chase rather than my healthy teammate then I understand that and if anyone is to blame it's the teammate for the bad unhook.

When playing killer I go for the one doing the unhooking most of the time because I want to get another survivor a hook state, but sometimes if they both bolt in different directions I don't really see any issue with chasing the injured instead of the healthy, you can quickly re-hook them and probably still have a chance to find the other. Is this really considered tunneling? Or is it just thrown around all the time?

I get that it's less fun for that survivor, I don't like it when it happens to me, but it's not the same as having true tunnel vision by ignoring other better options to just get rid of one player is it?

Face-camping I fully understand is just awful play, ruins the game for one player but the others should surely capitalize and get the gens done.

  • Seems terrible design as everyone is saying. Shouldn't force people to play in bad ways.

What would be wrong with just making it once per trial, it's still a fun challenge and might happen whilst playing normally.

You miss understood I didn't DC that match I was all for giving them a chance but they left me to die

Ah fair enough, sorry for the misunderstanding. That is frustrating, some poor teammates then. Hopefully they learned from it and someone won't be left to die in the future.

  • I am still relatively new, early 2020, but I would definitely go back to darker levels.

It seems basically unfair when playing killer that I can see people through any line of sight from miles away.

As survivor I also love pulling some sneaky play mid-chase when they lose sight and you can double back and trick them, which is much harder when everything is so bright.

  • When I started I played Doctor almost exclusively, it's very easy to find people and especially if you lose someone mid-chase with static blast.

Basically guaranteed that the first gen you find which has been worked on you just fire it off, either it shows you where they are close by or if nothing then check the most likely locker and boom you've got yourself a hook very early. If you find multiple people at any time always fire it off.

I loved his illusionary pallets add-ons as even if people are running you and dropping them it will come back and bite someone else in the ass later as they suddenly realise they don't have it. Also on this note if you know they are going to loop around a pallet and drop it then it's a great feeling when you shock therapy them and lunge through as they can't drop the pallet for a couple of seconds.

The illusionary doctors can also be great if you need help finding people, especially if you don't have BBQ, at better add-ons you can see them across the level and likely it's a giant indicator if someone is healing if it's not by anything logical. At worst if they have moved away a bit by the time you get there then fire off static blast and off you chase.

Even when gens are popping as long as you are doing OK and maddening up people then you will turn the tide, especially as new players will freak out a lot and start messing up gens often.

I normally ran BBQ (obviously), Distressing (for the extra static blast range and more bloodpoints), Overcharge (as it's a Doc perk and will def mess up lower level players), and Sloppy Butcher. Probably far away from a pro set-up but worked for me.

How Doctor is rated Hard to play as is nonsensical.

  • @hex_uwu said:

I was injured and had a completely healthy Nancy healing me. She messed up a skillcheck and hid in the corner of the map (I assume her spine chill flickered for half a second). I literally just stood there, still injured, staring at the pile of garbage she was hiding behind for a whole 15 seconds before she came back out and tried to finish the job.

I also had a Claudette who got downed a minute or 2 after she'd been unhooked and the killer just left her on the floor. Instead of recovering she crawled into the basement. My friend and I (injured, as per usual) both ran down there to get her only to find she hadn't recovered at all. Neither of us really wanted to be risking our lives for someone who intentionally crawled INTO the basement so we just left her. Eventually the killer hooked her and she killed herself on hook. She then had the guts to come into my friend's twitch chat and complain about getting tunnelled. You weren't tunnelled, you were slugged, if you'd recovered we could've had you up in half a second but instead you served yourself up like a free buffet in the best place for the killer.

Respectfully I think you and lots of people on these forums forget what it's like for newish players, which is understandable as if you are visiting these forums you are likely to have played quite a lot and understand the game better.

But for newish players people should remember the game can be genuinely terrifying. If they messed up the skill check they probably freaked out and thought it better to hide behind something, which isn't exactly a crime. What I would wonder is why didn't you just go with her and let her finish the heal somewhere she felt safer, they clearly didn't know it would make little difference, but standing for 15 seconds getting pissed off seems bizarre, could have been done healing already.

Also to OP; I think DC'ing for any reason is unnecessary, sure they could be awful and all might be lost but just that little bit of extra time on the hook could have been the tiny bit needed for them to get someone off the hook even if it isn't you. Noob players need to learn and the game has a crazy learning curve. For the sake of probably less than a minute of extra wait DC'ing reduces the chances of any positive and learning experience. People complain about new players being awful yet act somewhat selfishly when a tiny wait could have at least helped them understand the game a little better.

  • You didn't like RE4? 5 I also enjoyed for the co-op.

Leon would be my pick for survivor and he was also in that just to clarify as you listed him for RE2.
