"Honest question: WHAT do survivor mains want?"
50% average kill rate
-
BHVR is scared to make 2v8 permanent because they know most players would never touch 1v4 again.

This is actually very surprising to me. I always assumed chat was a universal no-no on console because of the strict code of conduct that can't be enforced outside of in-platform messaging.
It's probably because of Nintendo's chat restrictions, so BHVR decided to just exclude all consoles when it should just be Nintendo. So I'm being punished for playing on Xbox because of Nintendo's draconian rules.
-
@brewingtea said:
I guarantee the lack of chat is due to Microsoft policies. No dev is going to intentionally create extra work for themselves by removing a feature for no reason. Plenty of other PvP games have the same "no chat on console" as DBD. It's not BHVR.
Every other crossplatform game I played on Xbox has chat enabled. Even Rocket League lmao.

i first started playing dbd on xbox and it was great. Never even knew chat existed. But every match felt like i was playing bots, play the match, win or lose the match ends with nothing post match. Then i started playing on PC gamepass and i never looked back. As solo survivor i found i was able to say things like "running gen build" to let others know what perks im running in pre game lobby and post matches became more interactive. True, toxicity is rife and very often people will vent but for me, its mildly amusing to get survivors saying "git gud" and "learn to play noob" after they have just lost the match. i mean, i won…looks like they need to learn to play but ok. Just adds to entertaining interactive value of the game.
Wow I didn't even know pre-game chat exists. This makes it more unfair.

You can still add them tho. Just send a request through the game. Half my friends are random adds from different platforms.
I tried it, but you can't even send messages to people on the friends list so no way to communicate.

@Nun_So_Vile said:
Console not having chat is a blessing in disguise. Trust, you're really not missing anything and it keeps a lot of players (like myself) from the temptation of saying something they will regret later. It's not worth the toxicity.
Either everyone should have access to chat, or no one. It's not fair that pc players get this feature only when console players pay the same price for the game.

Its happening. Killers days of bypassing hook states is over. 90 seconds is plenty of time for slugging. Its about time this broken mechanic is addressed.
Other killers can handle the change, but Twins is different. Twins can't win at high mmr without slugging.
-
@BbQz said:
Annnnnd the point? And your post is very lacking in exact detail just generalization that could have been sumed up in a few lines.. like obviously a S tier killer will out preform trapper. But buffing trapper would require a rework similar to what we are seeing with myers Behavior realizes that a lot of these older killers are outclassed by newer Killers which is why their are quite a few of them on a rework list for road maps.
But the game is killer sided they are balancing it to be 60% kill rate on killer and 40% for survivors this is by definition an uneven playing field by design.
60% kill rate means the killer has a win rate under 50% still. The kill rate should be around 65% to aim for the 50% win rate. Also keep in mind that killer is supposed to be the power role because it's an asymmetrical game.
-
The game has always been extremely survivor sided when survivors are playing to win and not just goofing around like what happens in soloq.
-
@Alicia_Tried6041 said:
..is just miserable these days. Killers are still way overpowered especially the newest killer which makes huntress obsolete. Unlimited hatchets, teleport and built in tracking. Really BHVR? Then when word gets out survivors get a little help via tunneling and slugging its the end of the world. Ignore the killer mains on the update. There is no reason to ever leave a survivor slugged more than 90 seconds.
False. As a Twins main slugging is absolutely necessary.
-
If tunneling should be punished so should gen-rushing.
-
They need to just make it permanent already. Surely they csn see the numbers that most players prefer it.
-
The devs said tunneling is fine, so you can't blame players for playing to win.
-
The casual survs all quit.
-
Because killers found it annoying, like every other survivor nerf.
-
If 2v8 becomes permanent I would never play 1v4 again.
-
Killers better get ready for very long queues even after 2v8 ends, because survivors are boycotting the game until the devs make it fair like every other pvp game.

The ptb changes were in no way fair. . I had 2 matches against bully squads and it felt like 2017 again
So you lost 2 games, and you think that's abnormal in a pvp game? So it's "fair" when you win most games?
-
@Pulsar said:
Delayed, not canceled thankfully. Canceling would be a massive mistake.
Needs some number adjustments and the whole PTB centered around it, but the system was well-intended and easily fixable.
They'll keep the killer buffs, nerf the gen speed increase to 5%, and remove the penalty for double hooking. Then kill rates will go up even more and the devs will call it a success.
-
Because killers win 3 games in a row, and then go up against a really good swf and because they lose one game they think the game is balanced or survivors are even op. Then a killer main streamer makes a video with a million views and devs cater to them. They want the game to be ez mode for killers so that streamers don't complain. The biggest nightmare of the devs is killer main streamers complaining. For example Otzdarva thinks it's normal in a pvp game that he can go on a 30 game win streak on every killer and no balance changes are needed.
-
With the game in this state killers do not need any more buffs whatsoever.
-
It's not a "punishment". The gen speed increase is meant to give the remaining survivors a chance, so the game isn't over as soon as it's 1v3.
-
@MechWarrior3 said:
Plain and simple. It was way too punishing for killers. I spent hours on that PTB being punished when I wasn’t even tunneling. Hours. Let’s be so for real. Even the survivors AGREED with me in the PTB itself.
Go play killer on there for a day or so. Then come back to me
So, what was your kill rate on the supposedly survivor-sided PTB?

Theres nothing easy about tunneling if you actually help your teammates, which is exactly what this update was making unnecessary. You could've just left your unhooked teammate to fend for themselves the entire time cus they can last ages now, even when almost all gens are done. No need to hittake or shoulder them or anything, cus basekit anti tunnel was buffed far too much and killers get punished when they finally catch the survivor when they desperately need someone out. This update should've only prevented extreme cases of tunneling, peoppe who do it before 2 gens, not because they need to, but because they want to. That just hurts killer as a whole, not just people who extreme tunnel.
Enjoy your long queues.

BHVR has to make balance decisions based on what is going to please the largest number of people on both sides. There are always going to be extreme opinions on both sides who feel like they deserve to be winning every single game. Fortunately those are the minority and honestly the game would be healthier and less toxic if they weren’t playing.
Except this isn't a "both sides" scenario. Only killers want the game to be unbalanced in their favor. Survivors are simply asking for a more fair game, which means a kill rate closer to 50% than what it is now.

I don't want to, I play pvp games like overwatch and league because my chance of winning is close to 50%, DBD is actual dogpoop the strongest killer mains easily win 70-90% of the time it's ridiculous, right now multiple streamers have winstreaks in the hundreds
it's proven you can literally win 1900 blight games or 1000 nurse games in a row if you tunnel hard enough, the crying from killer mains is genuinely insane… am i the only one who see this or what ?!
Because the devs don't understand this is a competitive pvp game where balance should be 50%, they think it's a role-playing horror game where survivors are supposed to enjoy dying most of the time because it's scary or something.
-
Kill rate: 65%
Escape rate: 36%
-
The average kill rate is 65% (including games with a dc) and killers say "the game is the most balanced it's ever been". Completely warped mentality about what balance means in a pvp game.
-
Time for a survivor boycott.
-
The mentality of killer mains
Win 3 games in a row: "Those survivors just sucked and need to learn how to play"
Lose 1 game against a high mmr SWF: "See, the game is survivor sided when survivors know how to play"
The killer has a 70% kill rate but thinks the game is balanced right now, no changes needed.
The worst part is, this is who the devs listen to and obey.
-
These changes would have brought me back to the game. Guess I'll quit until the next 2v8 because I'm not playing a game where one side has a massive advantage with 70% kill rates.
-
It makes sense if 2v8 is more popular than 1v4.
-
He's an EX-dev for a reason. Also confirmed killer main lmao.

@CLHL said:
So, if the killers throw a tantrum now, changes should be made to please them?
I think we all agree that tunneling needed to be addressed, slugging is more debatable in my opionion because you can tell that is up to survivor to help each other, but from there to introducing such drastic changes that will have a profound impact on part of the roster is a stretch. Some killers are going to become unplayable, those "buffs" after a hook doesn't help them at all… What can a Hag do with an aura reading on the other side of the map? How can she stop now an unhooked survivor from triggering all her traps? If the slugging meter is cumulative, won't all survivors get up before Charlotte arrives to take them? These, and many other situations, were not considered.
I can think of better ideas than introducing these underlying rules and active punishments. They already have the cages that transport the survivors to a location unknown to the Killer; they could have applied this for the hooks. Punishing players for how they play is not good game design; it is, in fact, a confirmation of the failure of their design.
This is not "punishment" for tunneling someout out at 5 gens, its a catchup mechanic.

Just FYI, hatch escapes and DCs dont count towards escape rates
Source that hatch doesn't count in thrir stats? I never read that anywhere.

Just to confirm, the people we've got working on the Game Design section have been there for a very long time, most over 4 years, some as much as 8. Some people have moved to other projects but the majority is still in situ.
Do you know if the balance team consists of mainly killer mains or survivor mains. Imo it should be an even split.
-
"Gen rush" doesn't exist, it's just a term made up by killers when survivors do their objective faster than the killer, which is the goal of the game.
-
@crogers271 said:
Its fine, good even. If it means it discourages slugging for the 4k, great. And while just 'hide in a locker' is way overrated on the value of dodging out BBQ, this is one of the occasions where hide in a locker is completely worthwhile.
I'm afraid that the tuning is going to make this patch a huge buff to killers. The 90 second slug limit doesn't affect most games. Imagine the increased gen speed is just 5% while killers get bbq.
-
They're doing this because of how many survivors are leaving the game with how killer sided it got.
-
@Nazzzak said:
Yeah, i dont think it'll be as bad as people think. The devs still want a 60% average killrate (and let's be honest, most regular players have higher than this - new players who try a killer once or twice then give up likely bring the overall average down) and that wont change. This will give them the opportunity to better address individual killers and adjust as needed. Some people claim they "need" to tunnel, well, if that's universally true then the devs will see the falling kill rates and your killer of choice will get buffed. That's a win.
I think they're backtracking on the 60%.

And you have a source for that data? Or are you just making stuff up?
Actually the kill rate last year was 57%, but remember killer mains complained so much that it was too survivor sided so these devs kep nerfing survivor and aim for 70% kill rate now, but are too ashamed to show us the new 2v8 stats.
-
@NekoGamerX said:
I feel like people want all killers to be an ez win for survivors.
Survivors want 50% kill rate. Killers want 60-70% kill rate. Tell me who wants ez wins.

@4thdslip said:
Did they show it while the event was going on last year???
Yes, the official kill rate was 55%. Now it's closer to 70%.

Weren't that things always shown after the event ended? I think 2v8 is still opened.
They did not show it after previous 2v8, unlike the first two iterations last year. They are definitely ashamed of something.
-
@Mandy said:
That would definitely not help with the problem of queue times unfortunately, the multiplyer is there to encourage players to play in the role where more players are needed, and as is often the case with 2v8, that role is the survivor one. It's not a lack of players, it's the draw of having 2 Killers playing together, so encouraging some of them to play the Survivor role, even for bloodpoints can help to reduce the Killer queue time slightly.
It's also because you keep buffing killerz and nerfing survivors, guide class gutted.
-
Yup the more killer sided it gets each time the longer the queues.
-
What do you expect when they kerp nerfing survivor with every iteration?
-
@OrangeBear said:
Previous guide was really unhealthy. Especially the unlock skill, it was only really usable by coordinated groups to instantly complete gens. New guide fits the idea of 2v8 being a party mode much more imo, i think old guide needed to go.
The official stats after second 2v8 said guide had 45% escape rate, how is that unhealthy? It seems killers don't think the game is "balanced" unless the kill rate is reaching 70%.
-
It was great the first two iterations last year. It was the fun chill mode with catchup mechanics, so it never felt like a stomp. Then they made it completely killer sided of course and ruined it.
