They’re more likely “sweating” for escapes by combining wake up with sole survivor, and deciding before the game has even started that they are going to selfishly sandbag the team.
Sole survivor wouldn’t have such a high escape rate if survivors were just “playing normally” and “using it as a backup”. And the fact that both these perks are both near the top of the escape rate list is because they are being used together.Sorry, you've provided no evidence, while ignoring and failing to disprove mine. This alongside your history of absolute contempt for all survivors in every post you make on these forums leads me to the conclusion your theory holds no merit and is based entirely in bias with no consideration for reality.

Sole Survivor and Wake Up are in the top 5 escape rates, because so many people are specifically using them in selfish builds.
Nightlight perk escape stats only count the escape rate of randoms using those perks.
If an escape with that perk made it into the Nightlight escape stats, it's either because the person who uploaded the match was a killer player (20% chance due to 1 killer vs 4 survivors), or more likely, the survivor who uploaded and the random who brought the perk both escaped after powering the gens
To me, this goes to show that people who bring those perks are more likely to be sweating for escapes, and that they're bringing those particular perks either for endgames or as backup should their teams decide to throw despite their best efforts.

for the who knows which time, pickrate of perks isn't only thing that determines if they need changes or not. On top of all, Wake Up is part of Nightmare on Elm Street chapter, which was basically struck by balance changes as a whole.
wake up didn't need changing, or if it did it needed a buff. feel free to search the name of the perk on the forums, you'll see a bunch of people shocked that it got nerfed, and then a handful of people from several years ago remembering it exits just barely long enough to suggest a buff.
although it's not the most thorough proof of it, posting a screenshot of a 1% pick rate and 33% win rate was just the funniest and most succinct way of making that point
-
Yeah it doesn't at all surprise me that there's a very limited pool of survivor players to match against & that they've decided to SWF and bring map offerings, given the state of the game rn.

F13 was a special case due to the lawsuit, i never actually played death garden, but it was definitely true for evolve. I have the limited edition one that i bought on Xbox back in the day and was playing day 1, and 100% that was true for evolve.
CoconutRTS said that Deathgarden failed because it was too easy for the hunter to eliminate one of the scavengers early & no reason not to do it, and he played Deathgarden before ever touching DBD. I trust his judgement, especially since I see him as someone who favors the killer side but is generally able to come up with balanced takes despite that.
My takeaways from that are that BHVR need to do a better job of both incentivizing spreading pressure and making tunneling less feasible.

Because they spent dev time on it and usually wouldn't do that for a feature that won't be used on live servers. Because they previously tried pushing this in feedback survey questions. And because they have a history of implementing "features" no one asked for, and in some cases, were vocally against.
I wouldn't put it past them, but also they did specifically say "PTB lobbies" in the post. I'm not going to assume they're *that* tone deaf. At worst this is a good opportunity for us to give the feedback "please don't push this to live."

Wave Dashing was not an intended mechanic and it is considered core tech for most characters

Most likely this will be added to Live and event gamemodes like 2v8 to help reduce the extremely long queue times.
Based on what evidence? To me this looks like they're saying this is a PTB only feature to make sure everyone gets a chance to play the new killer without having to wait 20 minutes

Why is it the killer’s responsibility that the survivor has “the opportunity to play the game”? Sure sounds like survivors want free escapes.
If a survivor feels like they don't get a chance to play the game, they have 2 choices: Queue up for a bunch of DBD matches and spend an hour or two not getting to play DBD, or don't queue up for DBD matches and spend zero time not getting to play DBD. The solution is obvious: if the survivors feel like they don't get a chance to play the game regardless, they won't queue up for the game, they'll save the hour or two of their time doing something else, and you won't have anyone to play against.
So yeah, I agree, killers should totally not care about the other side having "the opportunity to play the game." In due course you too will get to experience what that's like
-
@ponzukun said:
On the killer side, I'd like to say that
the "survivors" stick to the "generators" that are about to be "fixed", right?
Few would go to a different "generator" that has never been "repaired" because they were "driven away", right?
You can apply each side's term to the separated word places.
So, when you get right down to it, both are essentially doing the same thing.
So I will continue to work hard on tunnel construction!
I've had gens regress from 90% to 0% in games I've played. I've never had a survivor regress from 2 hooks to 0 hooks based on ignoring them. If there was some mechanism that prevented gens regressing past a certain point I would absolutely spread pressure across gens.

- Is an emotional argument. You are using shame to stop someone from tunneling.
- It can be argued that many factors lead to that 60% number. One being the high rate in which survivors give up over the smallest inconvenience. Leaving teammates with the aftermath.
- Emotional argument. Sure, games are played for entertainment. But how someone enjoys the game is subjective. A 10% win rate. For every win streak there's a lose streak to balance the numbers. Note every killer wins 60% of their matches. It's an average where the center of the bell curve is 60%.
- Do you know what game you are playing? The very existance of DBD being around this long is the counter to this argument. You think any of this is new? It's the same regurgitated complaints year after year. Even when bhvr tries and does something, it's never enough, doesn't go far enough, and is now worst than it ever has been.
- There's no slider for balance. A 4v1 is inherently nearly impossible to perfectly balance. Tweaks to one killer only affects that killer. Tweaks to survivors affect every killer. What is too strong or weak varies by player region, time of day, and skill level of the players.
If you may, give a logical argument why someone shouldn't tunnel someone out in a match from a killer's point of view. Provide an alternative strategy that provides better results in a match.
Way back when, one of my roommates genunely asked the question "what is the reason to not just take advantage of people and not care about their feelings? Don't you just maximize your own pleasure by acting like a paychopath?" I want to emphasize that it was his choice of words, not mine, to emphasize the idea of psychopathy as a good idea and relate it to acting in your own self interests.
Anyway funny story, he got kicked out of our substance-free apartments for vaping, decided to break into a city work van instead of sleep at the shelter, got arrested for trespassing, then a couple months later was picked up with a parole violation after he was found with a gun in his new apartment, and last I heard he started selling hard drugs when he got out of prison. Not sure why I remembered this story other than what you said about not caring about other people's experience in a video game reminded me of what this guy said and what happened to him

The survivors certainly don't. Most of them use it to make "content" of them bullying killers and laughing when they make them DC.
Yeah man IDK what comp matches you've been watching but I've never seen one that looks like that
-
@Reinami said:
The problem with arguing about "public matches" vs "comp play" for example, is comp players often play in public matches. Hell look at all the youtube content creators and streamers, Hens plays in public matches, Ayrun plays in public matches.
The problem with that is, you can't know what kind of team you are going against until it is too late. If you "play nice" at first, and it turns out its a team that is playing at that level, it is now too late, and you lose. You need to be starting the match from the beginning with this mindset, and then back off once you realize what kind of match it is. The problem there is most survivors "go next" before you have a chance to back off, or of course there are people who don't want to do that "back off" part.
comp players are also perfectly capable of telling when they're in a public match, though, and I've often seen Knightlight and Zaka get their first kill after 7, 8, even 9 hooks with multiple gens left. they recognize the social contract they signed when playing comp matches does not apply to pubs
-
not sure exactly what everyone else is talking about here, but these are the stats according to Nightlight:
56.9% kill rate, 51.8% rate of killers getting a 3-4k.
If the survivors are playing as a team, survivors have a 36.6% winrate (0-1k). If their results are considered individually, they have a 43.1% win and draw rate (escapes counts both gates, which are wins, and hatches, which are draws for the survivor.)
although kill rate is not win rate, by looking at stats, basically any reasonable metric we can choose still indicates a game that favors killer. definitely good to not lie to ourselves and claim the killer has a 60% win rate, but also good to not lie to ourselves and pretend that killer winning 50% of the games means that survivors win 50% of the time as well
it would be cool to get more in-depth stats from official sources that have the same format as the Nightlight data (as the nightlight data is skewed towards showing a disproportionate number of 4 outs) but for now this is what we have

If I'm purposely doing strategies for the intention of winning the game, that is 100% acceptable. I tunnel because it helps me win, and that is acceptable.
What is not fine, is when people do things with the intention of making other players miserable. Yes, there is a big difference here.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3864920#Comment_3864920
My argument is the perk isn't anti-tunnel, because when SWFs bring multiple copies of this perk, tunneling and not tunneling leads to the same outcome (the hook states being spread out). The killer isn't better off if they avoid tunneling, with the only exception of quickly throwing someone else on a hook and then immediately going right back to the tunnel.
My argument is the perk shouldn't be allowed to daisy chain, which means that if a survivor uses the perk on someone else, then they should be ineligible on having someone use the perk on them. If this change was made, then a killer would actually be better off targeting a survivor that used this perk, instead of continuing to tunnel the same survivor over and over.
My argument is the perk isn't anti-tunnel, because when SWFs bring multiple copies of this perk, tunneling and not tunneling leads to the same outcome (the hook states being spread out).
Interestingly enough, the fact that it causes (attempting to) tunnel to not have the advantage tunneling normally would have, is exactly what makes it anti-tunnel.

Good?
That sounds fine to me. Tunnelling and not tunnelling lead to the same outcome, which is that survivors aren't taken out of the game early. That sounds like it's working.
If individual players get annoyed, that's on them, it's not a flaw with the perk.
As an aside, you "might as well" just focus on spreading your pressure instead, since you can't get the benefit of tunnelling. If you can't take the shortcut, honing your fundamentals is a good idea. There's no real incentive to keep tunnelling, it's just what you personally prefer doing.
Still haven't made the "don't make me tap the sign" meme, but there's now two evergreen posts of mine that are relevant to this thread.

If you didnt tunnel, and they used the perk spreading hooks, which also lead to no tunnel, then you lost nothing and they gained nothing. The perk worked, yes, but in the long run it did nothing. If where able to get an insta down, it was even detrimental.
Overall, the perk punishes tunneling. Tunneling is strong but awful to play against. A game is supposed to be fun. The perk is a win in my book.
Just chiming in to agree, and say that once again my take that "some people play with the mindset that the other team getting to use their perks/items is a lose condition regardless of it actually affecting the match" is being vindicated yet again

Think of your GPU like Goku. Each time your GPU draws a frame, it's like Goku fighting a new enemy. If the enemy is weaker than Goku's max power level, it means he doesn't need to go all out, so he's only going to use 70% of his power (why use 100% of your power when only 70% is good enough? You're wasting 30% of your power).
Basically the fact your GPU is only working at 70% is because it's strong like goku and can handle anything you throw at it
Edit: no clue why I explained it like this I'm tired as heck

no.. movement speed doesn't matter, you still can't predict where hatch appears. it can spawn righ behind you or next to killer's location so how movement speed matter?
ok nvm …. here's situation. you hide in a locker, on the other side of map i hook 3rd guy, he dies instantly because it was his 3rd hook. but you can get out of locker the moment you saw i picked 3rd guy so you have advantage already because you can start moving away from me or towards me, but i can't because i have to hook that guy so you won't cry about slugging… you have few seconds to start looking for hatch or just change place but i can start moving only when 3rd is hooked. ofc you won't find hatch before 3rd guy dies but it doesn't matter because you can already start moving because you know where i am and i don't know where are you or even if i knew you have time to move away from that place. The hatch spawns after the animation plays for the 3rd sacrifice. It doesn't matter that the 4th survivor is free to "search for hatch" while the killer hooks, because they are searching for a thing that does not exist yet, so they cannot find it.

This is the problem with this game's community. If something is killer-favoring, it gets changed. If it's survivor-favoring, we leave it as is "because you just can't have survivors not having fun!" But you CAN have the killer not having fun. I see how it is.
For no reason whatsoever I'm remembering there was a controversy a while back because BHVR tried to do a bug fix that made vault hits match their animation in a way that favored survivors. It got reverted within a week because of all the killer complaints. Just like, random instance of a survivor-favoring thing that got reverted. Wonder why that popped into my memory just now.

i rarely find hatch before 4th guy if i make that mistake and kill 3rd instantly instead of slugging for few minutes. when i slug 3rd guy i win with 4 kills, not every time ofc but mostly. and i could bet that most 4k games are won by slugging 3rd guy.
I've seen maybe 10 killers slug for the 4k in my ~1,200 hours on survivor. Maybe 20-30 if we include the ones where the 4th survivor was right there. I think you're the exception here.
I don't think slugging is a problem because it's ubiquitous(because it's not), i think it's a problem because it's not engaging

but you understand that hatch spawn is random so it doesn't favour anyone unless offering is used? killer closes hatch because 4th surv didn't even try to move until hatch was already open, it's choice to not look for hatch and stay in locker… in every other case it's killer's luck if they close before you
According to nightlight, 2/3 of the games that end in at least a 3k, end in a 4k specifically. That suggests that the killer has a significant advantage searching for hatch

Perks shouldn't ever have special custom effects like that, especially when it's literally "I want endurance but with 0% downsides".
Mettle only has the current effect because it was created a very long time ago, and people aren't complaining that it's too powerful. But giving the perk "endurance but with 0% downsides", would just open the floodgates for people to ask for special exceptions for other perks.
The downside is you need to take 3 protection hits, which is like 45 seconds healing bare minimum, plus all the time getting into position for those hits, all of which is time not on gens

I invoked the comparison because they're both decisions that are made from a desire to flaunt one's own ego ("I'm so good that only a 4k will do and these peon survivors will have to waste their own time for my sake or hand it to me on a silver platter" in the former, "This loser baby killer didn't stand a chance against my greatness" in the latter)
alright, let's compare technical aspects of getting a 4k that have no connection with ego flaunting to exit gate tbagging ones.
Slugging for 4k
- securing a double pip;
- securing an adept;
- higher MMR gain.
Staying/tbagging at the gate:
- resetting teammates for a potentional endgame save (which is the worst decision for an endgame save since killer could just force you out at the gate and completely secure that kill)
Btw, you will notice quite often that survivors who are slugged for 4k willi intentionally try to deny you 4k by hook and force their own bleedout. No, they won't try crawling to the nearest possible hatch spawnpoint, they will crawl to the random spot so that they can be sure killer will waste time trying to find them before them bleeding out. So, why does a survivor slugged for 4k that wants to avoid their time being wasted decide to further waste time by doing this? Ego is the nasty thing.
I'm not interested in the technical aspects behind those things tbh.
A bunch of killer mains on these forums who aren't you love making the comparison between teabagging and slugging for the 4k, and that note was made for them.
You're wrong about which of the two is worse for the game overall, but at least you understand that they're different, so that note wasn't for you.

Indeed.
There is nothing wrong with trying to 4k every game, slug or not.
Regarding streamers, it is beneficial for them to move from one match to the next as quickly as possible to keep their audiences engaged/provide dynamic content.
Disagree. Going for a 4k by slugging every match is bad for the same reason streamers don't do it, it leads to unengaging gameplay and wastes a bunch of people's time for no real practical change in result.
-

There is nothing wrong with people trying to 4K every game.
Some people also consider a 4K/Merciless as their only win condition - there is also nothing wrong with this.
Mentioning streamers and/or providing anecdotal evidence doesn't change this.
People are free to pursue their goals in the game however they want to within the established ruleset.
If you want to reread my post, you'll notice that I also said there's nothing wrong with having an ego and playing for a 4k every game. I was saying that it's inaccurate to say that hatch causes slugging for a 4k when plenty of people are able to not slug for a 4k despite the hatch, and that "having an ego" seems to fit as a better explanation because that particular barometer seems to divide the camps of "slugs for a 4k consistently" and "doesn't" better than the barometer of "hatch exists"
-
@Raccoon said:
People really need to check their own sense of entitlement.
Personally, I realize that the killer may try to 4K/wholly complete their objective using anything the game allows them to do. Even if they slug for the 4k, they are still just playing the game within the defined ruleset and mechanics.
I also realize that the last survivor(s) may try to get hatch by any means necessary as it may be their only viable option to escape. If they hide during a slug or do a 'drive by' on another remaining survivor, they are also just playing the game within the defined ruleset and mechanics.
I know that these actions can occur any time I queue up and don't expect otherwise.
I certainly understand that actions like these may not be fun for the people on the receiving end, but trying to maximize your own results does not equate to ego issues.
I didn't get a psychology degree from DBD University, though, so my expectations that people try to kill/survive to the best of their own abilities within the game's rulesets may be out of touch.
Is this meant to be a response to me?
Yes, trying to always go for a 4k when a 3k is clearly a win, is self-evidently ego driven. There's nothing wrong with having an ego per se, but I've watched Skermz, Alby, Zubat, Otz, Hens, Nightlight, Zaka, Xeno, Swarm and Tofu all choose to not slug for the 4k in killer games I've seen of theirs recently, and I never slug for the 4k except if I catch the last 2 survivors in the same position and I'm able to get both knockdowns within 10 seconds of each other or so.
It's clearly wrong to say that "hatch causes killers to slug for the 4k and that's that" because all those players demonstrate the ability to not slug - clearly hatch isn't the deciding factor in whether someone slugs because those players aren't playing some version of the game where there's no hatch. There's clearly some other factor at play, and you may choose to call that "wholly complet[ing] their objective" but when, as I said, a 3k is already clearly a win, it's hard to see wasting several other peoples' time to go from "win" to "win" as anything other than a self-serving ego play.
It's like how it's considered rude to try super hard in baseball when you're up by a lot of runs in late innings and the other team calls a position player to the mound.

Anytime someone slugs for the 4k to try and maximize their results for whatever reason, it's an ego thing?
The more you know.
Not every time. If they know where the last survivor is and the killer is going for adept or some tome challenge that requires a 4k, it can be more time efficient to slug for the 30 seconds to get the additional down, instead of risking having to play the extra game. I don't personally do that but that specific scenario is one I can justify as not being about ego
However, caring enough about the differences between a 3k and a 4k when a challenge is not involved is indeed an ego thing.

comparing slugging for 4k and tbagging at the gate is comparing apples to oranges. One is literally securing 100% of your objective, other is just plain attempt of "dominance asserting" by wanting your opponent to come and look at their defeat. Slugging for 4k is only lowkey comparable to saving a survivor in endgame for 4-men escape

My response to this…vanished for some reason, but short version:
- Survivor BM contributes to killers having pressure to 4k.
- Some of this comes from the developers' attitude towards toxicity, with Mandy going on record in the past as saying that anything short of slurs is completely fine and another developer post I cannot locate talking about how (after an animation rework AFAIR) they wanted teabagging to remain as satisfying for survivors.
- BM slugging is more analogous to BM hiding. It's rare, there are outlier cases who do it all the time and it should probably be fixed, but that's a complicated proposition.
Yeah, there's an auto filter that sometimes auto-removes posts. Not sure what the criteria is but there you have it
I think it's what's known as a positive-feedback loop. Killers sweat and BM, which leads to negative survivor attitudes, which leads to survivors sweating and BMing, which leads to negative killer attitudes, which leads to killers sweating and BM'ing, etc. Which side started it? Whose fault is it? It doesn't matter, because both sides are doing it now, and the best thing you can do is try to break the cycle (or just not play if it gets too much for you).
Definitely agree with you on the third point.

Yeah, but sometimes I'm just not in the right headspace to eat 1000 teabags and 'hey have a free hit…NOT' jukes to BM.
Why can't survivors just leave?
yeah for sure I hate it too, I always make sure to call out my random teammates when they teabag in exit gates (unless I personally saw the killer do something super BM beforehand). it's almost always a survivor who did nothing all game, too, so it's really easy to call them out on it. hate survivors that do that. i personally only ever stay in gate when the killer's nearby if i think it'll give my teammates time to reset
i was just preemptively trying to head off the comparison between bleedout slugging and teabagging at an exit because although they're both BM and rude they're very different as far as core mechanics go

Yeah I'm pretty sure I saw Skermz get 8 in a row last week, one right after the other
Same happened with Alby and Zubat recently too

but they both have 40 second cool downs. These two would scream within 4-8 seconds. I can handle screams every half minute but under ten seconds? Made me want to homescreen (i didn’t because i did that against the first batch)
Scene Partner has the chance of screaming multiple times with only a couple second gap, and I think they've increased the probability of getting multi-screams because i've seen streamers be surprised at getting like 10 screams off one proc of SP

slugging for 4k is literally a problem forced by another problem, decision to punish it literally means full ignorance for the absolute RNG game aspect called hatch. Hatch was and will always will be the #1 and biggest reason why killers slug for 4k
And deciding to slug for a 4k because of hatch is an ego problem.
The same could be said about teabagging by exits but that can be ended in a max of 5.4 seconds with 2 basic attacks so there's less of an urgent need to address it.

They did? I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure they didn't. Not going into details but it's a back room in main structure where, if you have BO, you absolutely cannot be hooked, especially if there's a bodyblock.
They've been doing a really good job of putting second floor hooks in buildings that used to be unhookable
It's the two rooms over the bar, right? Next to the long balcony?

How do you hook a survivor with Boil Over who sits up in the (not going to specify for obvious reasons) on Ormond with Boil Over?
Previously, you'd just slug them.
They added a hook in the place you're talking about, there isn't anywhere on Ormond where you can't get to a hook even with Boil over

Only now killers that don't slug for the 4k are going to suffer, and unhookable squads are going to be impossible to deal with.
And before you say 'oh that's rare'…remember the Boil Over buff patch?
Shudders.
Hook the third survivor because I don't slug for the 4k
Survivor never gets to use their basekit UB
Game is not prolonged any more than it would without basekit UB

i thought Chess Merchant was very boring to vs. exactly because matches were prolonged into oblivion this way, how exactly does basekit UB for last 2 survs change anything for the better?
- it will unnecessarily prolong matches, especially in cases when there are 2+ gens remaining and 3-4gen has been established
- it will make RNG factor even more prominent in matches.
Only if killers continue to slug for the 4k despite basekit UB. Which would make it exactly the same as it already is.

True we're on the internet, it's not like people would write sarcastic messages
I was assuming sarcasm as part of their message - that is, that they meant the clearly sarcastic interpretation of exactly what they typed

He just meant that survivor complaints can be unreasonable sometimes.
There are cases where slugging is problematic, like toxic bleedouts etc. But Slugging in endgame to attempt more kills with NOED is not toxic, it's normal gameplay. At this point the killer would be shooting themselves in the foot by hooking you.
I'm all for removing unfun instances of slugging, but calling everything "slugging" is counterproductive and just confuses everyone. No serious player complains about killers slugging in endgame with NOED.
in my opinion they probably meant the thing that was in the text of the post they made

Never heard of tilting at wildmills
It means "the enemies you think you are attacking, are imaginary."
It comes from a classic novel written in the 1600s called Don Quixote.

killers are so evil. they are downing survivors. report.
OP very distinctly said "slugging" not "downing"
i think a break from this forum would be good for your mental health you're tilting at windmills here
