  • Love it when my thing double posts

  • Loaded means the game has successfully taken data from long-term storage (either from the user's hard drive or the BHVR servers) and put that data into the short term active memory (RAM is the technical term) that computers use to store data from actively running programs

Ranking I'm not 100% on, but I believe it refers to the matchmaking rating system that is supposed to determine the skill of players you get matched with

So, in this case, "Loaded Ranking" means "We needed to get info about your skill ranking, and so we did that"

  • i'd love to see stats not only on the percentage of people at/above the MMR cap, but the percentage of games played at the MMR cap. If MMR-capped players make up a majority of the games played that could change a whole lot about... a lot of things. one might want to look at raising the MMR cap and making it easier to lose MMR if that's the case - the reason being, if a majority of games are played in that MMR bracket there is more need to have greater distinction between skill levels for more consistently balanced matches.

if there is a more equal distribution of matches by MMR, however, moot point but still information worth having

  • Ok, but counterpoint from the survivor perspective:

you work for 45 seconds on a gen, then spend 15 seconds going to rescue and 15 seconds healing, before taking 15 seconds to go back to a gen - 90 seconds of time spent, 45 seconds of gen progress

you immediately go for the unhook, taking 15 seconds to unhook and 15 seconds to heal. You both then go to separate gens, taking 15 seconds each, and then work 45 seconds on two separate gens. The same 90 seconds, 90 seconds worth of gen progress.

survivors prioritizing fast unhooks ultimately brings better gen speeds. the efficiency slowdown for hitting gens before getting unhooks is itself a punishment

  • The hook doesn't yeet you the instant the bar fills - the bar gives you one free charge of deliverance that you can use at any time (until you are unhooked)

  • I know how much it sucks to have killers be toxic when on surv, so I try to not do what I would see as toxic; similarly I know survivors being toxic can be annoying when playing as killer so I try to not be a dick when playing survivor either

Its part of a new system I think where they just dumb everything down. New SM is much more dumbed down version of old one if you play her as chase merchant, new Sadako is a much more dumbed down version of old Sadako, Hag had to be nerfed because new players just couldn't figure out to crouch or use flashlights on her traps, they clearly don't want anything to be too 'hard' on players so they're focusing on making everything so simple a 5 year old can play idk why

You need to crouch to disarm the traps. The reason she got nerfed was a byproduct of the Wraith buff

When did I say it was one time? I have over over 4000 hours in dbd and that has happened numerous times. Like how ignorant can you be to assume that it only happened one time? Think about the absurdity of what you said about chases. Most of the cast can’t physically catch a survivor in that time, which is why they have no chance.

I was being intentionally dismissive of what you said because you have been saying random arbitrary stuff with little to no relationship to what I'm saying. I talk about how nurse with ideal play on a good map with unrestricted perks can destroy even a coordinated SWF with ideal play, and you dismiss the idea that a nurse could achieve ideal play while assuming survivors can do the same. I point out the double standard and you start waffling about how technically a perfect nurse bot doesn't exist. I point out that by the same standard a perfect survivor bot doesn't exist and you start talking about the theoretical possibility of a perfect survivor bot, once again ignoring that a perfect nurse bot is equally hypothetically possible, and also wandering further from the original point.

I cannot possibly hope to fathom why it is you keep going on these tangents that get wildly further and further from the original point. It certainly feels quite disrespectful to try to respond to the point that we should either compare theoretical flawless play on one side against flawless play on the other, or assume both sides are equally capable of making mistakes; by talking about the theoretical capabilities of creating AI players on only one side (???). I know if I, personally, chose to do that, it would be out of a desire to convey that level of disrespect.

  • Survivor and killer progress are not linear. As the game goes on, the killer forces survivors to use more and more of their resources, making subsequent hooks come easier, and the survivors become less and less safe doing the remaining gens, making those later gens come slower. Also, when you hook someone, that's at least two fewer people working on gens (1 on hook, 1 going for rescue, even more if you then subsequently start another chase). Getting hooks and going for more chases slows down generators.

This isn't hockey despite what the developers have said in past, the team that gets the first goal or two done is not necessarily at an advantage.

  • oh yeah for sure, imo all maps should have a couple variants but only 1-2

given how many maps are one-sided, however, i would prefer they focus more on rebalancing the ones we have. good thing they're doing that for borgo at least

Uh, still. I hate that there are like FIVE freaking Preschool maps, and are they different? You claim they are by their names, but honestly I can't tell the difference between them. Why can't it just be "Badham Preschool" and then a more varied tileset that includes other things? Why does it have to be FIVE MAPS THAT ARE BASICALLY THE SAME? Please, explain to us what the difference is between variants of the majority of maps and variants like the Badham Preschool maps that you can't just... make them a single map?

As much as I hate that it was split into two, at least the Raccooon City East and West maps I can tell the difference between the two.

they have different footprints (the shape of the outer wall is different) and the layout of all the buildings in relation to each other and the road is different. 1-3 are square, but 5 is two overlapping rectangles and 4 is like 5 but with a corner cut out - it's kind of hard to explain

  • IMO we should let people refund stuff they don't want for a fraction of the BP back (even 5-10% would be acceptable)

It really isn’t, SWF beats her regularly. Nurse is far and away the best in the game, mainly because she can force survivors to guess, unlike most of the cast. Most killers are predrop pallets into safe loops into GG. The problem is that the playerbase is so entitled that they expect weak killers to be the norm. I’ve had Nurse games in which all chases were 30 seconds or less and the gens still got done.

"I had one game where I lost therefore nurse isn't super strong and capable of winning by default" lol? even if you only took 30 seconds per chase that doesnt mean you played perfect, you could have taken 25 or 20 seconds per chase. you could have started the next chase more quickly. maybe it did happen to be one of those games where the map RNG was in survivors favor and gens were spread in a way to let them do that. The fact that you are only able to name one time it happened speaks volumes. One time in which you did very good in one element of your gameplay and still lost proves nothing about the vast majority of gameplay cases

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3545717#Comment_3545717

Do you not know how bots work? Obviously the bots could play perfectly if they were programmed to. The CPU in games is programmed to have weaknesses. And no, I think a survivor team that plays well will win most of the time. Even with optimal chases, the gens go too fast.

That's a very interesting word, "could". I wonder if it describes a hypothetical scenario, instead of the practical scenario of what currently is available in the actual game. Very weird to switch from what does or doesn't exist (nurse bots) a mere 1 post ago, to what theoretically could exist (survivor bots with perfect play) in this post.

I never thought I'd see the day where people would say that nurse is underpowered compared to survivors, even just a couple months ago her most fervent defenders would argue that it's OK that she's super powerful because she's hard (while admitting she's still extremely powerful). That people are so boldly saying she's weaker than a SWF now is something else

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3545708#Comment_3545708

There is no point in mentioning that scenario since we don’t have AI playing Nurse. My point is that survivors have a fair chance of winning against Nurse since the mindgames can go either way.

The AI we have for survivors is also far from optimal and frequently (but admittedly not always) plays worse than humans.

A fair chance is not a guarantee; I'll take this as a concession from you that a survivor team that plays perfectly can still lose, which was the entire point

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3545575#Comment_3545575

That isn’t true. If survivors play flawlessly, they outread nurse and win. This mindset that good Nurses never miss blinks is absurd and toxic.

When you say "the mindset that good nurses never miss blinks" it seems like you are saying in your hypothetical scenario that the killer is making mistakes. This sounds like a case of the killer making mistakes and losing because of it, which is what should happen. The killer makes mistakes, the survivor does not, the killer loses for their mistakes. Why you think it's a good argument to take it for granted that a killer player makes mistakes as you build a hypothetical around survivor players never doing the same is perplexing to say the least. If you want to assert that we must assume that the nurse player will make mistakes, I will similarly counter that it's "absurd and toxic" to assume that survivor players will never lose a 50:50.

In any case, I am asserting that in a theoretical world where a nurse player always manages to blink exactly where they want and always makes the optimal choices given the information she has, vs survivors who always make the optimal play given the information they have, that the nurse not only can win but has a greater than average chance of winning (given the variability in map RNG and information a player can process), and in the correct circumstances can even be guaranteed a win.

I don't think they do anything to stationary survivors either. So if you are on a gen, it won't pick you up.

Good. That extreme gen pressure part of her kit is bad and should be removed. I just think the rest of the update goes a bit too far in nerfing her other gameplay elements

  • oh that is stupid, i didn't fully read the changes

...reading the alternative, i don't think that's horrible, the drone still forces survivors to leave a strong loop and get hit or stay at the loop and still lose a health state, but i think it does seem disappointingly weak

  • @awustzdn said:

There's years upon years of proof that top-tier SWFs with flawless play have a 100% winrate against top-tier Nurses also playing flawlessly. Why do you think items/perks are limited in the competitive scene?

except they don't have a 100% win rate? every SWF win streak based around getting 3+ escapes has ended far before the current win streak records for many of the top tier killers.

comp also bans certain perk combos and add-ons for killers and forces them to play on certain maps. why is it that certain things being limited for survivors proves that survivors are OP, but limiting killer perks and maps doesn't do the same for killer?

  • I think a lot of people are fundamentally misunderstanding the point of this update

Face camping happens primarily at the low skill bracket, where survivors aren't experienced enough to coordinate a save against the strat. It leads low skill survivors to make bad decisions and to be frustrated with the game, and it boosts low skill players kill rates until they get into games where they're hopelessly outclassed, which ultimately gives them a bad experience as well since such killers don't know any other aspects of the game and they end up with many back-to-back no-hook games.

The point of the update is to force new killers to learn how to play without camping, and to allow new survivors who go against that strat to have an opportunity to play the game.

To that end, disabling the feature while there are still gens left would be a mistake, because you should be trying to prevent the gens from being completed. Chess Merchant is a playstyle that's based around assuming 4 gens will get done and you'll protect one tiny area of the map. I've had several games just today where the killer had 1-2 hooks in the first 3-4 gens completed and ended up getting a 4k - without face camping.

  • I do hope they extend the haste to 7 seconds and buff coffee grounds to be the same. having an extra couple of seconds of haste to make up for the time spent placing a trap would be great. As it is, you lose 10m of distance during the trap animation and make up only 1.5 m from the haste they're adding (on top of the 3 you get from being naturally faster). That, or giving a bonus to trap placing speed while in chase. Or both!

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3545060#Comment_3545060

Basically they removed the only good thing about her (regardless of whether or not it was fun for anyone) and the "chase buff" they gave her isn't good, because you have to hit them with 3 drones before you get the benefit. So have fun not doing anything to survivors for 30 seconds in a chase.

same drone can hit them 3 times. seems you can use them to force a survivor to either stay at a loop and get exposed, or leave a loop and get insta-downed

  • I think the logic is thus:

-at the top level, starting with all your traps AND being able to pick them up & relocate them is too strong

-at the bottom level, placing your traps and then not being able to relocate them is too punishing on people who don't know how to play just yet

personally i do think trapper needs quite a bit more to become viable and i agree he should be given more; i'm simply trying to fathom their reasons for keeping it this way

  • @awustzdn said:

One of the two sides CAN play flawlessly and still lose. That side is called Killer.

Sadly, that's just the reality of asym game balance. One side being guaranteed victory if they play flawlessly means that the other side can play equally flawlessly and still lose.

survivors can also play flawlessly and still lose. see blight, nurse, spirit, etc. with the right add-ons and map. the point is that 1) right now the game isn't fully balanced but devs should work towards that as a goal, and 2) that wanting to be able to win despite your opponent making no mistakes is incredibly selfish and shortsighted

that doesn't matter though because 99.99% of the games where either side thinks they "played flawlessly and still lost" they simply weren't good enough to recognize the mistakes they made.

  • some people are just looking for an excuse to be toxic. i had someone leave me to die on first hook because "i led the killer to their gen." the killer had lost track of me a full 30 seconds before finding the gen in question.

shack pallet is a very strong resource, so a lot of people like to save it until later in the game when the killer is their strongest. in your case though it seems like you used it to maximum effectiveness

  • Aha, the missing comma is what confused me, I just couldn't unsee "chase killers" as in killers that are Good at Chasing

  • @Seraphor said:

I think it's more like, when you see a survivor dancing around a strong loop and refusing to budge from the point precisely opposite you. Do you commit to the loop and spend the 60 seconds it takes to gradually close that gap until the 50/50 at the pallet where you find out if that 60 seconds was a complete waste?

Wild, if that's what they meant, that's not at all how I would have described the concept. Goes to show how vastly different people express ideas using words

  • what do you mean "playing into"

do you mean like "choosing to play against"? we don't have an option of what killer we go against

do you mean "playing in a way that lets the killer take advantage of their strengths"? so, in the case of chase killers, that would be... just not running away from them. yeah somehow i think that's worse

do you mean "playing as"? because chases are fun

Sadly this is something I learned fairly early on in this game. killers only win if survivors make mistakes (or you the killer is way too good)

Well, yeah, good. Imagine if that weren't the case, if killer could win despite the survivor team playing flawlessly; or imagine the other way, imagine not making a single mistake as killer and still losing. The game would be pretty poorly balanced if one of the two sides could play flawlessly and still lose

  • game's in a relatively balanced state minus one or two exceptions so now all the people who normally would dedicate themselves to ruining people's evening on the game are dedicating themselves to ruining peoples mood on the forums ig

But it IS ironic. Just as this whole thread. Asking to kill switch a killer just because she is annoying. Devs can´t do that. Because then you´ll see kill switch requests for half the roster. Bubba did Bubba things? Kill switch! Nurse downed me in the first 30 seconds of the match? Kill switch her! And so on.

SM will get her rework. If thats going to be an improvement is to be determined.

that's not what the word ironic means. there are many things you could rightfully criticize this thread for, being "ironic" is not one of them.

  • As others have pointed out, you don't lunge with mad grit, so spamming attacks with mad grit doesn't actually help you go any further.

Honestly I think Mad Grit could use a bit of a buff because it's underused right now and anything that encourages weaker players to realize it's possible to win without 4 slowdowns on killer or 4 greedy anti-tunnel/chase perks on survivor is a good thing

  • @Spirit_IsTheBest said:

Yes, I understand that kills witching is ONLY for bugs, but there needs to be an exception for Skull Merchant, she's growing in popularity ever since the teaser for her "rework".

Lets face it, no one plays her except to 3-gen. It's incredibly boring and games for me have lasted up to 40 minutes once, its DREADFUL, and I'm honestly over her.

I don't want to play anymore chess, checkmate, you win, I'm done, PLEASE just let me play normal matches.

My enjoyment for this game has decreased so much because of this killer, I just want to p100 my Thalita without versing her, I only get around 20k if I stay for a round of chess with her, or I'm stuck with BOTS that crouch the entire time.

Again I get that its only for bugs but you need to agree, 3-gen Skull Merchant is miserable and i'm sure you want it killswitched as well, right? This killer is not healthy for the game in her current state.

Devs, please make an exception. When the PTB comes out, disable her, because were going to have to deal with her for like another 3 weeks afterwards.

I hope her changes in the PTB in two days are good, I really do.

They've teased a rework for the mid chapter and that should be a few weeks away, I'd recommend taking a short break and waiting until that happens.

    @Tsulan said:

But she isn´t broken. She was just designed to be like this.

I have read your arguments before about oc, however my point is you play a double standar with your arguments, the same justification you gave for overcharge being too punishing to newer players could be applied to xeno, each time someone complains saying they fail tail attacks your reply is for them to get better, however you fail to use this same line of tought for things like overcharge, hell I agree with this xeno nerf, he needed it but honestly be consistent with critisims either everyone has to get good or none has to.

As a new player you have a choice what killer you play as but you don't have a choice what perks someone else brings in. If you had a chance to randomly load in and be forced to play a game as Xeno, or if survivor players could vote-ban certain perks to control what they go against, you might have a point, but as it stands, you can't compare two things when one is entirely self-imposed and the other isn't

I don't even necessarily entirely agree with Pulsar here wrt Overcharge, I think there should be different things that are strong at different skill levels and Overcharge is one that shines at low skill levels, but you have to acknowledge the difference between a challenge you impose upon yourself and one that happens as a result from other people's choices

  • We don't know if the things they teased are coming in this mid chapter or at some later point. I think BHVR get a lot of unfair criticism (their updates are generally better than people give them credit for) but teasing something and then not having it fully ready for the mid chapter does seem like something a lot of companies could accidentally do

  • if she only got condemn from hitting someone with a tape they would have absolutely no reason to grab tapes, cmon man

  • i think BHVR considers intentionally slugging for extended periods of time without attempting to advance other objectives (such as standing on top of the last survivor after they've crawled to a hook, or playing for 4 bleed outs) to be holding the game hostage, but even then they're unlikely to take action around it. chasing one survivor after seeing another is fine.

even i, who is one of god's strongest anti-slugging warriors, will admit that slugging one survivor to chase another survivor that you have seen, is a completely normal and acceptable thing to do

  • Devs have stated that hug tech was not consciously created *but* is currently considered an intended mechanic because it makes gameplay more interesting. It's like CJ techs

Nothing Skull Merchant does counts as an exploit, she just exists at the intersection of a bunch of individually fair mechanics that taken together, really suck. I think it would be very funny to killswitch her because it would upset some very silly people, but it sets a bad precedent.

    In short, git gud

  • BHVR: Actually it turns out the base kit original version of the killer we designed was fine, we're returning her to how she was in the PTB.

-has antiloop that feels powerful but not oppressively so, fair amount of counterplay on both sides

-has decent map mobility, feels good but again not too overly oppressive (maybe he could do with a slight buff to travel time out of nightfall but other than that)

-nightfall is a unique and very cool mechanic that can be scary while also being somewhat manageable if you know what you're doing
