The direction many of the actors had seemed to allow for long, drawn out screams. Not sure if they had animation times in mind while doing so, etc, but I hear what you are saying and agree. If I'm being perfectly honest, though, I think the screams that get cut off right as they go limp (let go of hook and let legs down) are more realistic than continuing to scream while totally limp.

Nothing is perfect, but I personally think the screams are more logical and sound better pre-patch. Some survivors have screams that match with the animation time and sound much more natural, while others (RE characters especially) are cut off mid scream to match the animation. On the contrary, however Nicolas Cage has a few screams that I personally think are a bit too short for being hooked (they're really realistic, just short). They sound more like an ever-so-slightly, drawn out "just got downed" scream. Nothing wrong with it, per se, but it did catch my attention. I think the audio individuals at BHVR did a good job of seamlessly cutting some screams short. Not ALL of them sound odd, however, but I won't dismiss your valid points that some don't align. In this case, I doubt they will rerecord, so it's probably a matter of the lesser of two evils.

Ultimately, though, the current screams just don't seem to fit.

thats on point yeah they can still revert it back and i am totally okay with it but make the screaming animation longer if they really wanna make them realistic

yeah thats actually what i was talking about i was just not a big fan of them being cut off and then this update came out even tho re survivors screams still cut off even with this version lol a lot of the survivors full screams can be played through this animation but again they can revert it back and add a longer screaming animation if they really wanna make them realistic also yeah nic cage has some of the shortest screams ever

While that may be true, I think the issue is more that the entire rest of the "hook animation and audio" does not seem to naturally sync with that moment. I am not a neurologist or medical expert, but from a typical "viewer" standpoint, the original audio seemed to align with the idea of a slight delay of initial shock from being placed on the hook, then the wailing/shrieking after the signals hit the brain. It matches with the body writhing and the chime of a survivor being hooked. It all just felt correct.

Lol I'm not saying DBD needs to be more medically accurate to be enjoyable, but if a significant number of your vocal player base indicates something is off about a particular creative decision, maybe it needs to be looked at :)

i totally agree with you on that but with the previous one survivors screams would cut off so awkwardly and artificially not being able to hear the ending of their screams so now most the survivors screams can be heard as a full audio which makes it sound more realistic

What was the reasoning for it? They start screaming before they're even on the hook, so it's incredibly awkward and feels out of sync.

Tbf they dont actually start screaming before putting on hook they literally start screaming right at the moment their bodies get pierced by the hook if you look at the animation closely

Screaming before being hooked? I'd been calling it the Pain Resonance nerf.

They literally start screaming right at the moment their bodies start to get pierced if you look at the animation closely so it makes sense instead of starting with a delay which after a second of being hooked

  • just make it 4s stun i dont think ds deserved so many nerfs

Yeah, survivors are such a drama queens these days.

If you talk about long screams, they used to be in the game many years ago too idk if you played that time or not but i kinda like they brough them back

  • And i found out after the new update screams dont echo in outdoor maps at all like somebody plays the audio clip it sounds and maybe its bc of that issue that they sound way more loud

I forgot about the hook bubbles. TBH i hate them on survivor too. I think those bubbles are something everyone can agree needs to be changed.

plus, they were not as bad as now because they used to be transparent for auras which we could see auras through them now since dredge came out its been obsecuring auras too and they even said thats intended when everyone thought it was a bug

  • i just miss old night time coldwind like keep the textures but bring back the old atmosphere..

It's comically long though, some are like 6 seconds long.

i agree with that but at least make them like 3.5 or 4 seconds instead of just 2.5 which is the previous one and it was pretty short an sounded awkward being cut off so early bc some survivors screams usually last for like average 4 seconds and when it cuts them off in the middle it sounds unrealistic not being able to hear them ending in a natural way such as like voice cracking, fading away or runs

  • @Seraphor said:

I wish this was an optional setting.

I have to smack every survivor I hook to shut them up.

i don't think such a quality of life change will happen since this is the whole point of the game like they get pierced by a meat hook ofc they will scream for a period of time

  • i am really glad they brough them back they remind me of old dbd days

  • bubbles are even worse now because they also block auras now since dredge came out and they said they did that on purpose when everyone thought it was a bug...

  • i dont mind a crouch animation in a video game and plus its like lil dance if its only at the gates so

  • i still cant get over they said they did this on purpose, not a bug...

  • whats natural about this change is not how they are long it is how they end in a normal way instead of cutting off awkwardly so you can hear their voices crack or fade in a realistic way at the end but again no scream should last more than 4-5 seconds but should not be also 2.5 seconds like it used to be

  • exactly! especially RE survivors have pretty long screams and i really dont want them to cut them all off again just bc of those ones bc i really appreacite the meg, claudette and nancys screams theyre so cool

What are you playing on? On Steam, it is PERFECTLY fine for me

i dont think you got it right, the problem is on all platforms. No aura is visible through the hook bubble this is the case.

It's currently not listed as a bug, but listed as by design - that's not to say it was always like that, but the decision was made that it should work in this manner.

i get that but when nobody wants such a nerfish thing to many aura related perks this makes no sense to be in the game i bet every player would rather it to be reverted back to its original stage where we could see auras through hook bubbles and if thats intended i am asking why it was necessery to make bubbles opaque?

  • @Mandy said:

As far as I'm aware this is something that is by design, that teh black bubble over rides the aura perks of both survivor and killer.

no, hook bubbles used to be see through for auras but something broke them with the patch 6.0.0 i dont get how such a bug still exist for almost a year...

  • i saw in the video auras are not blocked by the hook bubble now they say thats a feature that it block auras like how such a thing be a feature when its literally bugged for months

  • i like long screams they sound pretty cool and natural but some screams last for like 7 seconds they need to be adjusted and also long screams were in the game back many years ago so i dont get why some people so mad about them being in the game again

  • they are still long if you are far away from the hooked survivor

  • it reminds me of old dbd i really liked long screams but they maybe should change the animation of being hooked so they dont need to start early and match the animation

  • well i sent a ticket about this issue and they said they did it on purpose as a way of suspending the situation (i dont get the point of this text btw) so hook bubbles got nerfed where they no longer show auras through it they now blocks auras and thats intended sadly

  • they responded my ticket about that issue with 'that's actually intented as a way of suspending the situation' so i guess thats not a bug anymore its on purpose and idk why

  • it's not the perk kindred that is bugged it's just the bubble that blocks any aura in the game. So bubbles just cause this issue
