I used to run Clairvoyance a lot to hedge against useless solo queue teammates, but I found its usefulness declined after the devs nuked the s*** out of stealth playstyle and also the introduction of the finisher mori which seemed to incentivize more slugging for 4Ks. Before these changes, it was much easier to stay hidden in unwinnable situations with only 2 survivors remaining. Even if killer was bent on the 4K, often times they would give up if you could stay hidden long enough. Now, with stealth no longer viable, killers can find that last survivor much more easily and quickly. The only way you can hope to get value out of Clairvoyance for hatch escapes now is pray that the killer isn’t going slug for the 4K and come looking for you, which doesn’t seem to happen that often anymore.
honestly, slugging for 4k isn't as big a draw back as you may think. clearly it didn't hurt my escape rate (much). it is a factor but if you're willing to actually play stealthy (hide in lockers, use Fixated to move around easily) it's not a big deal. in the time it takes a survivor to bleed out you usually get 1 crow. on larger maps you can literally just destroy a totem if you get a crow and it ends your afk timer. and while it's obviously a memorable experience to be in one of those matches, at the end of the day it doesn't happen as much as you think.
-
i play about 20-30 games a day and lately (when the anniversary event ended) it seemed to only start record 2-3 of those matches per day in the recent match history. not sure if anything else is being effected.
-
i could be wrong about this so someone from BHVR might need to comment for clarification (or not if it's a secret) but the survivor incentives may not be uniform for everyone. for example, if you have two people on the same server and one is in low mmr and one is in high mmr they might get different incentives depending on what the game is looking for. there may even be more nuance to it than that but i know people on the same servers have compared their incentives before and have seen very different numbers at the same time.
-
idk based on my stats kindred has a 54% escape rate. that's pretty good. but clairvoyance has a 74% escape rate so i run that instead.
-
luckily 2v8 is coming back soon

Great for you!
Someday i want to learn the trick how you gain so much BP to get this as most normal players are nowhere near that amount.
I got around more or less 200k BP most matches and played so 3-4 per hour.
I haven´t counted but overall i may have like 500 or so.
Got like 1 cake for 50.000 BP - at the end i tried the bulk spending an it seems you got more with it. One time 1 got 11 cakes for 250k.
i was averaging 219k bp/per game and always bulk spending because yes it did seem to guarantee a higher number of cakes. i played around 1000 matches over 28 days so definitely atypical of the normal player to achieve this although someone who was only pumping cakes into p100s or killers could do it in far fewer games.

How did you get so many on P100’s when they offered less? (Or you got them to p100 during the event?)
1000 on Houndmaster.
350 on Jonathan and Nancy.
150 on orela!
This will last me till next year!ada started at like level 3. rebecca was around level 10. sable was already p100 and was the last one i pumped pies into. honestly, sable gained pies far faster than ada and rebecca. ada and rebecca were getting about 26 pies per prestige whereas for the same amount of BP spent sable was getting around 40. at some point they patched the p100 bloodweb to give more pies than they were getting than in the beginning when everyone was complaining.
-
for a survivor who is not p100 you should get 26 cakes per prestige. or, better stated, 26 cakes per 1.2 million bloodpoints. for a p100 survivor spending 1.2m bloodpoints you'd get quite a bit more upwards of 40.
-
i don't think he's boring to face but he's stressful to face. the below average or average ghouls actually fine fine to play against. but man the really good ones really make me believe ghoul is S tier. the constant free hits, and free movement, and just a lot "free" mechanics where the killer doesn't really give anything back to the survivor i think is problematic.
-
i'd say ~90% of the ragequiting i see is against ghoul. the other 10% are from the usual causes (people getting downed early, tunneled, double-hooked, etc.)

I don't think the unhooker needs to be punished to bring in safe unhook perk. We need to understand that to replace current meta we need game changing perks. And if they have downsides it will remain unused, like invocations.
yeah i mean i agree with that but at the same time it's not an issue with deliverance which is still a very strong perk despite the broken status. i think the perma-broken status is no fun on any perk though and something they should move away from.

I would really really love that system as would many but many will say including me that this will be the death of queue times and playerbase will split making you search for games really long.
it doesn't have to affect queue times at all. it really just depends on how aggressive you choose to make the system and knowing bhvr they'd make the system as least aggressive and cumbersome as possible.
-
it's definitely quieter BUT it's taller. there are some loops where its ears comically extend above the walls so there's no way he can mind game you.
-
the funny thing about people acting like the medkit + botany thing is overpowered is that botany always applied to the syringe heal speed. thus you could always get a fast normal heal with botany using the charges on your medkit+any charge addon, then syringe yourself for an extremely quick heal while in chase or doing a generator anyway.
-
ghoul is kind of a culmination in all of the killer balance changes we've seen. like the reason hillbilly is listed as the 3rd strongest killer currently is because they just took away 90% of the the counterplay. like he can chase you down while revving his chain saw and what this means is that if a survivor is not immediately at a strong area of the map then the killer has no excuse not to get an insta-down. ghoul is no different honestly. its just be at a pallet or vault you apparently deserve to die. that's not fun. that's not what dbd is about. dbd is about mind games. and the more you take away the mind games or push the power too far into one direction then it no longer becomes a fun game.
-
seems like a lot of bad takes. for one, anyone who plays this game consistently has a healthy stockpile of the best items and add-ons.
secondly, self-healing has been gutted so substantially over the past few years that it's odd to be complaining about it.
third, are we really gonna act like franklins is supposed to be meta or that killers should just be able to freely invalidate items? its never been fun to play against but its never been the strongest either.
fourth, a lot of the perks introduced in TWD seem like they'll be best in strong coordinated groups. so yes, it may become more frustrating for killers at the very top end of the game but thats such a small segment of the overall player base.
five, killers are feasting and have been feating for a few years now. if he thinks the matches are going to get more difficult for killers on the "top end" then that's actually a good thing for the game and not something to be worried about. its a welcome change.
-
i'm completely convinced that the developer has given up on the survivor experience. like the game unfortunately is balanced around having at least 3 competent teammates if you're going up against a competent killer. but the MMR system seems to really enjoy thinking 1 or 2 competent teammates is good enough; but this is why even a complete fool like myself has a 75% kill rate across basically every killer in the game. on average I should not be winning my games but i am and honestly that's nonsense. the game used to be funner as a killer when it was more difficult because now so many games are just free wins, so many games are against just horrible survivors that you can't lose. and yeah, you'll go against good teams from time to time and of course i'll lose badly but i know in my next 3 games i'll just an easy win. it's kind of the same situations on survivor except inverse, 1 good game for every 3 horrible games. they've made the game less fun for both sides i think over the years.
-
always be at a strong part of the map where there are multiple vaults/pallets. some maps are pretty desolate and there's not much you can do. some generators are also in large dead zones and again, there's not much you can do when he shows up. that's kind of the problem with ghoul as he invalidates distance and just forces you to be at a strong area of the map at all times.
-
i knew this would be a controversial post but didn't expect a perfect 31/31 split in upvotes/downvotes.
only way to settle these heavily divided disputes is a trial by combat. the ye's select their finest warrior, the nay's select theirs.
(and imagine if they removed the ability to upvote and downvote posts.. we wouldn't know what the community sentiment really was..)

if there is any factor, it will be the one, that manipulates u into playing the game more.
because thats what generates money. but i see through it and im sick of it.
I can tell that the matchmaking is rigged. I can feel it. And it doesnt matter to me what u say because i have experience to back it up.well you've said a few different things now. you claimed it was random initially, now you're claiming it's rigged and designed to make you play more. so which is it? lol
-
nah, definitely not a lie. but i'll say that i have days where the matches are easy most of the day (usually over 40+ matches/day). in fact one day i escaped 40 times - that's my record. and most of those matches were playable and easy; any decent player would have been able to match that. then the next day came and every single match was horrendous; it was like highly skilled killers all day long and every person on my team was less capable than a bot. this was over 50 matches and i only escaped about 10 times. i'm not sure how often they adjust your mmr up or down; maybe it's every few hours, maybe it's once a day, maybe it's based on the number of matches you play, but it's definitely there.
-
no one cares if you're tunneling against a good team and at some point in every game it is often what you need to do to slow the game down. but it's the low mmr games where it's really too effective and if you do it in a few games you can easily find yourself in high mmr where you're suddenly playing against good teams and you're freaking out because you can't really compete against them in the way you feel you should so you use the only skill you've developed (tunneling) but maybe it only results in 1 or 2 kills. so then you're in this awkward spot as a killer where you're not very good at the game but you know how to tunnel so you're ping ponging between low and high mmr. then you come to the forums and say, "i deserve to win so i tunnel!" but the reality is you wouldn't feel the need to say that if you were a high skilled player.
-

So yeah, it's entitlement mentality.
"We should be able to do or inflate kill rates so killers I don't like get nuked"
That's the essence of what you said. Skull merchant 2.0 was fine but survivors wanted to keep whining until she was executed so nobody plays her. And there are people on this forum who explicitly said they want the same to happen to Ghoul. It's fully entitlement on survivors part.
That assumes BHVR is stupid which they are not. BHVR themselves deflates stats they release to the public by removing games where a player disconnects. Of course most of those games are 4ks for the killer so it's easy to see why.
-
well, the problem is there was a time when only nurse and blight and spirit were good killers and the rest of the killers in the game were actually really bad and underperforming.
then in BHVR's infinite wisdom..
they decided to make all of these m1 killers stronger by rebalancing the game in their favor (patch 6.1).
but this really pushed the strongest killers in the game to being even more powerful and it's why we're seeing players go on 500+ winstreaks with these killers. the game is not balanced at the top end of play at all and BHVR won't address it.
it's actually pretty disgusting when i think about how lopsided many matches are nowadays compared to how matches used to be a few years ago. but w/e

How exactly are you meant to create a competitive environment for everybody when less then 1% of the player-base even considers playing the game competitively, let alone actually engages with the competitive scene?
If a overwhelming majority of a game's player-base is either apathetic or outright hostile to the idea of a Competitive scene, then what incentive does BHVR or any company for that matter have for making a Competitive scene? It's a niche subset of the player-base that everyone else looks with either mild amusement or outright contempt, it would be a waste of time and money.
so basically you match the apathetic players you speak of… together.. that didn't take much thought on my end

I will forever be against comp kids in DBD and in most games I play. Comp mentality is the death of laughter and casual enjoyment. The “winning is everything” and “I have to be the best” ruins the vibe for anyone who simply wants to have fun. It’s like being at karaoke bar with your friends but you got one guy screaming that you’re not hitting your notes. It takes away the ability to have fun by simply partaking in the activity.
You see it in the comp dbd community already. Taking “meta” builds and top player words as scripture rather than embracing their own play style. Parroting words and ideas like tunneling is the only way to win. It isn’t. You’re just so obsessed with the win that you can’t risk not winning.
competitiveness is not about "comp kids". competitiveness is about parity. parity applies to everyone. parity means that low skilled players play against low skilled players. it means that average players play against average players. it means high skilled players play against high skilled players. it's striking that people seem to not understand that competitiveness applies to everyone. a competitive environment should exist for the lowest skilled player in the game, and the highest. if you don't understand this i don't know what to tell you.
-
@Coffee2Go said:
Long story short.
Dbd is a mix of comp and casual players.
Adding a ranked mode would be really really bad as it would split the playerbase and increase queue times for both sides.
So its generally a 50 50 when you click play as a killer or as a survivor
well, i didn't say anything about a ranked mode and i agree with you.
other games that have divided their player bases into separate queues (or even into separate games) have suffered for it.
we need everyone in the same queue as much as possible. i think if i were to argue for anything it would just be that players should be playing more frequently with others who are in their skill range; right now you can be playing with literally anyone. one game you'll be playing against a new player, the next you might be playing against one of the best players in the game. it's ridiculous.
-
@MarbleThrone said:
DBD is not a competitive game.
The fact that some people want to go out of their way to make it one in a sandbox environment with all sorts of made up rules is nice and all, but that should not be the standard whatsoever for the regular, actual game of DBD that 99% are playing..
Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. That's how it's supposed to work. Yes, the matchmaking generally is atrocious but let's hope the tweaks to that will alleviate some of the frustrations we have with it.
If you go into a match with the intention of "I must win / keep my winstreak" I think you are in for a much worse experience than if your goal is to "do my challenge, get points, level up my favourite character" or something along those lines. Mindset matters. Similarly, if you go into a game with a meme build or something that you know is not the best, and you set low expectations for the outcome, then getting a good result feels much more rewarding.I agree with you actually. I don't think it's a competitive game either. But then we'd have to ask - is it a party game? To which I don't think it's a party game either. I can't think of a worse game to ruin a relationship than trying to play DBD with your friends. It's a game that if you're just trying to play for fun you're probably not going to have a good time either.
It's a game that demands in many cases a very a high level of skill to have success. Yet we'll both sit here and say - it's not a competitive game. Which also doesn't make sense.

No dude as a Killer main this event is 1000% Killer Sided. Remote Pallet Breaking alone makes this event Killer sided. It makes getting downs as Killer braindead easy. Then there's also the time saved and guaranteed Scourge Hooks with the remote hook. Like there is actually 0 way to argue that the event isn't Killer sided.
here's my stats from this morning (they update at 6 am eastern). Gabriel has never played in the anniversary, and Ada has only played in the anniversary. Ada's escape rate is 70%. clearly survivor sided.

Nope, you are right. The Stats provided by BHVR are without any events or modifiers.
this is simply not true. this is my first time playing ada wong and plus you can see the amount of bloodpoints she earned, over 200k average over 100 games.
-
no fun allowed until 2v8 is back unfortunately. until then its just the same meta perks, same meta killers, same camping and tunneling nonsense. i swear every game feels the same it's tiring.
-
why don't you post a screenshot of your escape rate/stats?
-
@Garboface said:
60% escape rate? This must be with a mic. I am at about 2 escapes in my last 50 games playing solo. Much of that due to randoms. Sorry, no level of skill is going to plausibly get one past the killer AND 3 other dread randos. I'd post stats but I can't get the account to work.
i don't know. my escape rate apparently at 65% right now. a lot of survivors just don't play very smart. maybe they don't try to maximize their time on generators, they can't survive in chase for very long, they don't heal when they need to heal or they heal when they need to do gens, they make unsafe rescues, they don't lead the killer far away from generators being worked on, they don't scatter from their teammates when the killer comes around and instead choose to do all die in the same area, they don't crawl away from their hooked teammates if they get downed, they let themselves get downed when someone else is already downed, like its just a ton of little mistakes most players make that you're intimately aware of if you've been playing this game forever.
-
honestly, 2v8 feels more like a "real" game than 1v4 does. because in 2v8 momentum never really just stops. you never really feel the effects of camping/tunneling. often at least a few people escape and a few people die. its fast paced. far more saves happen. far more chases happen. generators speed is quick so you don't feel like you're just wasting your life sitting there doing nothing. and hilarious things tend to happen in 2v8 that would never happen in 1v4 just due to there being so many people/killers. 1v4 used to be so much fun and feel actually pretty accessible to new players. but now they've streamlined the game so hard towards high level play that its sucked a lot of the soul and life out of the game. i used to play WAY more killer back when killer was actually difficult because it's genuinely not fun when half your games are literally just free wins because the matchmaking decided that me, a player who has played 15,000 matches of DBD, should be matched with new players.
-
i mean it's obvious that BHVR has been gaslighting us around this issue
we know survivors d/c at high rates. these games are often 3/4ks for killers.
we also know that BHVR removes these games from their stat totals
they tell us averages but they don't tell us is what we really want to know - just how effective are the best killer players in the game?
we can watch twitch and see it for ourselves. lillithomen loses maybe 1 game with blight per 1000 games. onepumpwilly just goes on a 210+ winstreak with trapper. at the very top of the game the best killer players are just rampaging and feasting >99% of the time and it's clear. when the ceiling is so high that you basically can't lose if you know how to play it does show just how poorly balanced the game really is.
-
@MrOogieboogie said:
For ghouls insanely low skill floor (NOT ceiling…), he should not be as effective as he is. Dude is being commonly placed in S tier with the likes of nurse and blight, or at LEAST strong A tier, while being 50 times easier to use….
Along with Wesker, my most hated killer in the game by FAR. (Wesker isn't a matter of OP…I just think he was a crap choice for a horror game killer =X )
i love playing against wesker, honestly. if every game was against a wesker i'd be pretty happy. tons of counterplay against him. even when you lose you genuinely should feel like you at least had a chance. against ghoul its just like playing against a toddler most of the time that has a free "i win" button because you weren't near a pallet or vault the moment he decides to be within 60 meters of you.
-
it's probably by design.
despite the game CLEARLY begging survivors every single moment of every single day to play survivor by offering incentives sometimes reaching 250% they still find ways to insult us.
they literally give us like 1/4 the cakes as killers. it's laughable.

How about just having fun, instead of making it to a "Us vs. Them" it gets booring when its brought up like that at every single event.
Why is winning so important? try to have fun instead.
you can pretty much say that as a response to anything. a meaningless response.
-
i mean every killer makes a different amount of sound depending on how close to you they are. its like pyramid head is very audible when he's near you. and nemesis sounds like godzilla stomping nearby. various killers make all kinds of sounds. and some others are actually very quiet. its just the design choice they made for him. he's a teleporting killer, with a ranged attack, with undetectable, so they gave him loud obnoxious footsteps. he's probably not gonna be grabbing many people off gens and there's nothing wrong with that.
-
i mean i have a 75%+ kill rate across almost all killers and i let survivors play for hatch in almost every game. my wraith actually has an 86% kill rate. and i'm not even a great killer.
i think the truth is that killers think they should win every game. i certainly think this way when i play killer. because it feels so bad when 3 or 4 survivors escape. but at the same time i don't really value most of the wins i do get on killer either because of how easy they were earned. it's a lot of black and white thinking as a killer player and i don't think it should be that way.
honestly, my perspective used to be different. there was a time when the game actually was survivor sided and when nurse and blight and spirit actually were the only good killers in the game. you kinda knew you were gonna have a hard time every game and because the expectations for success were so much lower losing didn't feel so bad.
and i think it's the combination of so many games being "free" as a killer, coupled with getting occasionally bullied by real teams, that makes losing feel worse.
-
it probably spawned in the basement
-
well, i have a ~75% escape rate on that map after playing 150+ games. it's really survivor sided if you're aware of how strong the stage/ballpit area are. it's a large map, with many strong pallets and strong vault areas. it has a killer shack. honestly i wouldn't be surprised if it's the most survivor sided map in the game right now. but then again, most of the killers i've been playing against are springtrap and it may just be that he's not that strong of a killer.
-
one thing i'll say is that i don't believe that the stat system is under-counting time played.
it is in the sense that it's not counting the matches from all of the events which can be substantial.
but the average DBD match only takes 10 minutes.
and when i multiply my total matches (about 15,000) by 10 minutes i get the time it says i've played (2500 hours).
i think the truth is a lot of us actually do spend a lot of time AFK, spending bloodpoints, waiting in the queue or lobby, and even the time it takes just to load a match. all of this counts towards our steam time but not in-game time. this is the part we're under-estimating.
-
Event: 2 survivors are alive but one of them is downed
Recommendation 1: downed survivor has the option to abandon
Recommendation 2: the hatch immediately opens when the survivor is downed. killer can mori, hook, or play for the hatch.
Goal: expedite the end game, no more slugging for 4k nonsense that everyone hates.

Well at least now I can prove to the nay-sayers that I have 60% escape rate in solos… I've been saying for years that 40% average is extremely low… They have been lying to us for so long. I refuse to believe the average survivor is THAT bad, cause I'm not even that good myself and I escape well over that… 40% or lower is what you would expect from a brand new player. And all the survivors I see in my killer lobbies have 3-8k hours on their steam profiles, so… Explain that one away, please :)
40% escape rate is the average. that's not low. it's literally the average. half of players are below 40%, the other half are above 40%. we don't really know what the exact spread is but i imagine it's pretty tight; having an escape rate above 50% likely puts you in the top 85% of players. at 60% you're likely nearing the top 98% of the player base.
