Meta shake-ups are good. Seeing the same perks every match for 2 years has gotten pretty boring.

In any game, there is guaranteed to be a "meta"-- this is inevitable. You cannot prevent some strategies being slightly better than others. This is because developers are trying to balance between two different things with perks: diversity and strength. Developers want maximum perk diversity to make the game interesting, but also want minimal strength differences so that all perks get used.

However, these two ideals are impossible to achieve in tandem. They are somewhat oxymoronic with each other. The fact that perks do different things means that they can never truly be equal in strength. Even if you took precise, surgical care into trying to make every single perk exactly balanced with another, some superior strategy would eventually develop. After all, there will always be some situation out there in which one perk beats out another. The best the devs can do is make each perk /approximately/ equal to each other, which is what they have been attempting to do by nerfing the strong perks & buffing the weak ones.

Mixing things up brings new life into the game and introduces entirely new scenarios, which I'm definitely looking forward to.

We are all think a meta shake-up is important, but the way to reach this is different. You also say bringing perks on a similar level/strength is good, but how is a 35% selfcare equal to inner strength, coh or something like that? That doesn’t make sense to „remove“ a perk from the viable options… or now everybody will run otr instead some run otr, some bt, some ds, that would be a shake-up to not see every match the same perks.

    No.

The previous meta was insanely stupid and it needed to die. It's not just about a new meta, the old meta was broken and it had to go. Especially Dead Hard and Iron Will, perks that fundamentally altered the base fabric of the game.

I don’t say that nothing has to be changed, especially dead hard. It’s important to make tweaks, buffs and nerfs here and there.

But fact is that in longterm they have to do this meta shake-up over and over again…

Requires being and staying injured for any value, doesn’t stop scratch marks, doesn’t stop blood trails, doesn't stop running sounds, doesn’t stop killer instinct, doesn’t stop screaming, doesn’t stop aura reading, doesn’t stop eyesight. Doesn’t work while infected against Plague or Nemesis. It literally only stops groans of pain. For that one effect, it better be good at it.

It was balanced, minus stopping regular breathing sounds. Now we’ll probably never see it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3040880#Comment_3040880

Ugh, thanks for reminding us! Didn’t this last event one specifically require being injured close to the killer too?

    Yes, even more fun 🤣🤣🤣

  • Imagine the next archives:

stay 60 seconds within 10 meters to the killer 😂

  • In my opinion the devs should give outfits as a reward. Players invest thousands of hours in the past for prestiging and all other rewards are a joke

  • I think bbq don’t get a second effect cause devs want shake up the meta so they want players to use other perks. Now a days you see bbq mostly every match.

wglf isn’t that often so they add a second effect while remove the bp part so it’s fair compared to the killerside not to have a bp-perk.

I don't get what issue you are talking about even.

if the issue is power difference between killer roster, then it's more or less closer as all the m1 killers are much better at killing.

I‘m saying it’s not a surprise that people bring the same perks every match, because they don’t know how strong the other side will be. Would the matchmaking consider addons for example too, to find matches, games would be fairer and more balanced and player would be more open for meme builds, but now no one wants to run niche perks against a groupi-nurse. For example you would see no iron will, circle of healing or selfcare against a plague, fewer spinechill against a doctor or a trapper, no ds and bt when the killer will not tunnel.

  • @fulltonon said:

There definitely won't be complex MMR system, as there is not enough players to back it up anyway.

But you see the same issue or did I miss something?

    Eh...

On one hand, yes. I already dodge 'ready' lobbies, as these tend to either be full 4man SWFs, backfilled lobbies or backfilled 4man SWF lobbies. Too many bad, bad experiences where I'm put up against a SWF with over 10k hours between them who bring 3x further hook offerings and a map offering rather than flans.

On the other hand, nothing is going to make me play out a game with a 4man with names like 'usuckuninstall' 'toxicsmurf3' 'imakenubsquit' 'urbadlol'.

I very like the idea of this post to optimize lobbies for mmr.

your point to dodge toxic swfs I can understand but on the other side why should a survivor wants to go against killer with names like „bleedout forever“, „tunnler no.1“, „toxictrash“, „endless thana legion“, „afk“, „makesurvsdc“ or „facecamping bubba“…

Your post is about specifically camping and tunneling this update and how they "didn't address it." I said that they have addressed camping and tunneling. Maybe my comment came off a little too "BHVR can't do anything wrong" oh trust me I know they can do PLENTY wrong and I don't entirely think that they did the best job with addressing it. However, like @C3Tooth said in their response to me, killers tunnel through BT and DS even now. So honestly, they can address camping and tunneling all they want, but they will still happen. The issue is people who say they didn't address it when they did. There is nothing BHVR can truly do to stop camping and tunneling because they can't control their player base. Camping and tunneling aren't like cooldown times or gen speeds where they're embedded in the coding of dbd. They are strategies that come from people's brains.

Also, I genuinely want to know, from you. What do you think the devs SHOULD do to address camping and tunneling? Like you said, killers already wait things out like BT anyways, so what does it matter if BT is 5 seconds or 3 minutes? The killer will just wait it out if they're serious about tunneling you.

It’s just stupid to reduce the ds stun if they want to avoid tunnling! They easily could make the stun 10 seconds to hurt tunnler, but hey: „this perk is overused“ 🤷🏼‍♂️

All these upcoming changes do nothing against camping, cause for that it’s needed to have a chance to unhook. So why not simple: if the killer is in totale 30 seconds near than 24 meters near the hook while not in chase, the hooked survivor can selfunhooking (in stage 1&2) and get bt for 15 seconds.

  • same here!

after a pallet stun I switched sides with the killer, crazy hits and yesterday i saw my alltime favorite again: get hit over a dropped pallet…

I would say that I was kinda surprised by the buff to Thana, as its not a bad perk, especially with someone like Legion, the nerf to PGTW, though, is rather substantial. Many only skim over it and think "oh, it got reduced by 5%. Ok", when actually its now "20% of the current gen progress". So if you kick a 99,9% gen, then it instantly drops it by 20%, but if you kick a gen thats 50% done, it will only drop by 10%. Its still working great in giving the killer some breathing room when he happens to interrupt a gen thats nearly done.

That all said, I went back and re-read your original post and yeah, you are mostly right: camping and tunneling, much like using NOED, just artificially inflate several killers MMR and will only throw them befor bigger and badder SWF groups, who will eat them for lunch, camping and tunneling be damned. And then they will need a few extra rounds of bitter losses, before they reach the MMR regions, were they can somewhat perform again, albeit now with pent up rage that will let them go ham on the next baby survivor group. A classic vicious circle.

What tilted me, though, was your last sentence, in which you mostly put alot of blame on the killer side. But whatever, all that is moot by now, because I think we came to quite a good understanding here. Sometimes the internet still manages to surprise us, can't it? So cheers and lets all try to be a bit less toxic to the other side.

    👍🏻

Its definitely ok to lose a few matches, but just to talk in absolute numbers: in my 1k hours of dbd I have been offered countless hatches, been granted countless mercies by crouching and laying low my items, but only 6 mercy kills. Its just such an alien concept for most survivors that the killer is just another player, and if you are winning, it ain't necessary to utterly stomp them into the ground, not even getting them one successful hook of, yet you see this all the time.

Both side have their very fair share of toxic players and participants, but the toxicity in the survivors camp is often of a very different quality. I don't doubt you that you might give the killer the occasional down or even kill, but that is very much the exeption, the norm is that the killer has to show you some kind of mercy if they are dominating. If you can do a 4k, its quite universally accepted that you can at least expect that the killer might give you the hatch. Not ONCE has a team, that utterly dominated me, said "you know what? Leave that killer his 1k, we won't swarm the hook and go for the save".

Contrast this behavior with your claim in your original post, again and think, if the ball really is in the killers field? It definitely ain't 50% of the time.

In my original post I said it’s not a good move from the devs to hope for a friendly playstyle… You can‘t say „hey, now people don’t need genregression perks cause gens took longer and chases will be shorter“ and on the other side make a minimal change for pgtw or buff thana for plague and legion. We all know, on both sides will always be player which will obuse stupid mechanics and try to create horrobile matches for the opponents…

  • @Akumakaji said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3016645#Comment_3016645

Just answer yourself this: how often did you get gifted a hatch by the killer, because they were totally dominating and just felt altriustic? And how often have you given a mercy kill to a killer that was either new or clearly struggling? Is it close to a 50/50 ratio? Even 30/70? Playing killer is already very stressful, the clock is constantly ticking and if you then deny them their every single hook with flashlight saves, bodyblocking and saboing, thats the equivalent of tunneling.

Yeah, its a 4v1, and both side should try to win. But there is winning, and there is crushing the other sides confidence and then dancing a t-bag dance on their corpse while doing a flashlight show. So the altruistic streak in the survivor community is way, way more under developed then in the killer community.

I feel often bad for killers, which are clearly not on the same level and give them a down or a kill and on the other side some killer give me the hatch. I think on both roles are good, nice, friendly but tryharding and bullying players to. Surely toxiness is more visible on survivor side, you see every match four of them and just one killer. I find killermatches more stressful too.

But the point which I want make is that these scenarios where one side dominate so hard are in my opinion mostly matches, where the matchmaking doesn‘t work well.

Maybe both roles have to accept that it’s okay to loose matches and give the mmr the chance to adjust.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3022054#Comment_3022054

no it wasn't. It was available only until November 2016 - so players had only a few months from release of the game to prestige, and prestiging back then took much longer as in game BP was less, less bloodhunts (in fact only one from memory right before legacy was released), plus the bloodwebs were massive and took a lot more BP than they do currently.

so they had to care about 8 characters (4 killer + 4 survivor) and invest a few month. Now we talking about the grind and effort for 31 survivor + 26 killer and a timeinvest of years and thounds of hours… before the announcement of the devs it wasn‘t clear that we additional get the prestige Level and so we waste all stuff like addons or items while we go for prestige and that's the big point! Some of us have done this for 57 characters so it’s massivly more effort than at the beginning.

  • @Mandy said:

We announced a long time ago that no form of Legacy would be returning...we also made this very clear here on this forum, when the discussion around the P3 reward started, that the reward would not be a cosmetic one.

Sure the devs communicate that the reward will not be a cosmetic. But for the longtime player who have already prestiged and lost their stuff and millions of bp the announced reward is sad…

  • On two killers?? stbfl is insane on Demo, Pig, Leatherface, Deathslinger and also on m1 killer like Clown, Doctor, Myers, Trapper

  • The point is in the past you had to prestige for the bloody outfits without knowing there will be a change. And now this playerbase, mostly longtime players, get a wet handshake…

  • Yes and it’s now a days clearly a very strong meta perk, which will make it even stronger

  • Please, no bp 😭 I have all on p3, so if we get this bloodpoints back this would be hundred of millions and this with a bp-cap from 1 million, so we wouldn‘t need to play until you spend this bp what will took weeks of time

  • @Omans said:

If they did that then people like myself who kept all their characters at level 50 without prestiging would be rather upset. If they were to include players who will have a very high prestige level on every killer after the change, then okay.

Prestiging was always rewarded with the bloody outfits, so players who didn‘t prestige decide to not get this. Now you get the bloody outfits automaticly without have lost anything, so you are fine.

other players who grinds for the p3 have invest a huge amount of time and bloodpoints and have lost hundreds of items and addons inclusive eventitems from the past…

  • @SimplyPixelated06 said:

An icon is not worth the effort, it's extremely disappointing and underwhelming.

Please considering adding onto the reward with a ton of bloodpoints and some shards.

The reward is worthless in my opinion. It’s just disappointing! We loose a lot of addons, items and offerings and getting nothing back.

I have all characters P3 50 (only haddie and dredge just level 50). With the new prestige system bloodpoints not needed, only for new chapters.

I'm aware this will come as a surprise to you but most killers don't actually enjoy camping, they do it because they feel currently it is required to even have a chance at higher MMR, if they had the option to not do it and still have a chance to win they would. You're problem is you assume the worst about Killer players and that they just want to ruin your experience, in all honesty the killer playerbase is a lot nicer and more wholesome than the vast majority of the survivor playerbase. Either way it doesn't matter because apparently the devs disagree with you.

Maybe the killer who needs to camp is caught by the mmr… if he would play „fair“ maybe he will loose a few games, but than he goes against survivor on the same skill level. With 2-3 kills with camping and noed his mmr goes up and he will even more feels he need to camp.

And if the killerbase is this nice not to camp cause they have it easier like you say, whats happen if they camp further? ez 4k always

  • @Thusly_Boned said:

Fixing something so future players don't have to suffer isn't some kind of injustice to those who came before.

By that logic, improving anything anywhere ever is unfair.

I wrote that I‘m agree with changes needed and important. The point is the loss of all the items and addons for nothing. I think it’s the Job of a buisness to find good solutions for their product AND ALL their customers.

btw with this prestige change i only need to play/farm bp when new contents will be released, so I will miss the grind in my case

  • @MissKitty95

with the new system you don’t need bloodpoints, cause all perks unlocked on all characters… just for new addons or items or when a new chapter arrives

  • The devs seem not to rember issues from the past

  • I had very weird matches last night too. Played survivor (5k hours) and have newbie teammates with less than 150 hours and they played like this… and the killers I go against were new players too.

  • @supersonic853

I hate this challenge too, because I feel like a useless teammate.

But I made it in the second try:

use a map offering like the game or midwich and empathy, so you can follow the person who is in chase on the other floor and so you near the killer without being spotted.

If you want to support your team run breakout, sabo and/or something for the rescue.

    good luck 👍🏻

  • It would be an absolute cheek, all players who have taken so much grind on themselves, with a few shards, bloodpoints or some meaningless lobby symbol or something to fob off!!! Who has brought characters to p3, lost thereby massive items, addons and offerings. And in contrast to this, those who have consciously decided against prestige are rewarded and get this retroactively credited and receive the bloody outfits.

  • I think it generally depends on how seriously someone takes the game and how much they want to get into it and if they want to get better at it. You can quickly have several hundred hours in DBD without really playing much (leveling, store, q-times, ...) or the hours are spread over many years, ie the player starts DBD every eternity times for 1-2 hours. The hours say nothing about the skill of the survivor.

In addition, the play style of the player (sneaky, swf, only m1) or an offensive play style, which influence the learning curve.

Often skill is equated with how good someone is in the chase, I would also partially agree. But for me it is more important what decisions the player makes, for example when to take a hit, when to save, when to commite to a gen, when to let a teammate die (especially in the endgame or when facecamping)... in my opinion there are many situations where a quick "right or good" decision shows the true skill of a player. So it's not enough to be "only" good in the chase, if you make the wrong move in the game deciding situations.

  • I ignore palettes by put a trap if the survivor drops the palett so you can avoid the stun and make the loop unsafe at the same time. The best choice on trapper is the yellow trapperbag, so you have more traps.

For perks I run stbfl, surge, corrupt and as fourth I switch between devour, ruin, pop, hunted ground, noed, sloppy...

  • In general, I think the huntress is one of the best characters in the game: I really like her looks and she is very balanced. Her hitboxes are sometimes a bit frustrating, which the devs should maybe try to optimize. Against the huntress, similar to pyramidhead, you should not pull the palette, unless you are guaranteed to get the stun or to bring something between you while looping. The most annoying thing about the huntress is when she proxy camps, go up a hill near the hook and use her hatchets to prevent the survivors from saving.

  • Maybe some here should just understand that most perks in dbd have hardly anything to do with skill. It is simply a selection of skills that you take into the game, no more and no less. These can be coordinated, should be fun for the user, compensate for the weaknesses of the player and provide variety. Of course there are perks that are used more than others. BUT: perks do not have to require a certain skill! They should only correspond to the conditions of their strength.

  • First, I would like to address your shack scenario: I honestly don't quite understand the problem. The survivor ignites i.e. so you can just relaunch the trap and wait for him to trigger the next trap or drive him in that direction. As a hag you have a certain area trapped anyway. If each triggered trap would be a free hit, the survivors could also give up immediately. In addition, after triggering a trap, the pov is changed, so that dh is often uncontrolled.

And on the subject of "it doesn't need a skill to press E": I see that differently, because you have to use dh at the right time during a chase.

Counter question would also be "what is the skill that gives a killer an instadown at noed, make your choice, devour?" just because you go off hook or survivors don't make totems? That sounds really hard and difficult. Or bamboozle? Spirit fury? Pop? Ruin? Nurses? Sorry, but I just find it funny and also a bit one-sided when killers whine about survivor perks, although there are plenty of comparable ones on the killer side.

  • @51uk4y

for me it feels a bit weird to have no indicator after the match about the skill level of the other players.

Of course ranks are not the best way, but when I see a rank 1 killer he couldn’t be a full potato. Only if you see someone between rank 4-13 it could be the player is normally better but maybe he plays not that much.

  • @lemonsway

    That‘s so true.

The biggest issue with the ranking system/ rank based matchmaking is that it’s to easy to rankup. As they changed the emblem system a few years ago, all survivors were crying „I can’t pip anymore“ and so the devs make it easier for survivors again and so we get all the boosted players. The result was to many player are in higher ranks as they deserve and this brought us this rainbow lobbies and „unfair“ matchmaking like a yellow killer against red rank survivors. In my opinion the devs should make piping harder and then work with the rank based matchmaking instead of a weird mmr

  • @Tsulan

Same here: I saw a lot of smurfs too and some troller which have bullied killers on green/yellow ranks before and for those player I really love the mmr^^

And on the other side it seems that boosted tunnelkiller get now death squads and they realize now „oh, I‘m not as good how I thought“

  • I think player dcs in the loading screen cause of different reasons. Both sides expect a difficult match if the other side drops specific offerings and both sides don’t like to deal with them.

    survior dcs:

    1. mori
    2. lerrys or the game, cause it’s mostly mirror myers, doctor or legion
    3. black ward

    killer dcs:

    1. haddonfield
    2. corn maps/ red forest
    3. reduce hookspawn (and saw toolboxes in the lobby

    both sides dcs:

    1. no bloodpointofferings during the events
    2. rpd
  • On purple/red ranks you need at least one gen regression perk, unless you play one of the top killers that are very mobile like Nurse, Blight or Oni with infectious fright. With all the others it's really hard to keep the gens. What speaks for you against a slowdown perk?

If you definitely don't want to take one, I can recommend the ones suggested above or a good snowball killer with a 3gen tactic like Trapper or Hag. Also extremely fun is Plague with lethal presuer, then you can super at the beginning, depending on the spawn of the survivors, infect all and make pressure.

  • It's true that most bloodpoint offerings aren't very worthwhile, but I'd rather take the few extra points instead of having to take some fog vial on the bloodweb.

In general, we all know that the grind is mega much. I think the devs should rework the bloodweb and/or the prestige mechanic. Theoretically, you could just level up a character:

    Level 50 = P1

    Level 100 = P2

    Level 150 = P3

You would complete and level up your perks and also keep your inventory. This would reduce the grind enormously. Personally, I do not really care, because I have almost all the characters on P3 50, but for new players I think a change would be very good, because the grind certainly discourages many.

  • Very cool setting :-) Also always prefer to take lichtgeborener than franklins, although it is also always funny when survivors run directly again panic to their flashlight lying on the ground^^

And by the way, with four flashlights you also don't need an anti-gen perk, since such survivors hardly adapt generators anyway.

  • @Tsulan

But you always have the chance to defend these gens and get hook after hook... surely, there are games you get 0 kills, but that’s few. For me it’s the same like on survivor side: I want good chases, make bloodpoints, and have a nice time. If I get only 1-2 kills I still have my 25-30k bloodpoints and I don’t need always 4 kills and I never slug the last person for that. On survivor side I‘m happy to do a bit of everything: a gen, unhook, healing, chase... it’s fine if I don’t escape too. I make always 16k bloodpoints or more and that’s it. It’s only annoying to get hard tunneled or facecamped on the first hook, can’t play the match and end up with 2k-5k points to wait in the next queue for a lobby.

  • @Tsulan

As trapper or hag you always should have an eye on your 3 gens

  • @ciara1999

I love dance with me very much too, works perfect with lithe, quick and quit and iron will :)

I play dbd for over 3 years and have more than 4000 hours 😅🙈

  • @ciara1999

Thanks for your opinion, it’s nice to see/read this. Personally I prefer ds, cause it save my life in endgame so often

  • @Tryandstopme

Don‘t get me wrong but I think it’s a interesting theme that has to be discussed and when I see that you are new I ask me why you were here? Only to leave salty comments?

  • @ciara1999

I wrote it before in this post. I personally haven’t a problem with getting tunneled, I love chases and I think I‘m not that bad ;)

I‘m more interested in your real thoughts about the effect of ds and bt, do you think it prevents survivor for tunnling and it gives them a real chance to escape from a chase after the hook?

  • @Tsulan

    I have copy my answer:

I love to play trapper and hag, so in all my games the first 2-3 gens pops before I have my first hook and I still get 2-4 kills. Or with my plague I use lethal pursuer, see all four survivors spawn together and go there and infect 2-3 of them and chase the fourth one... it’s a dream <3

1 2 3 4 … 7
