  • Things I enjoy playing as Survivor:

    1. Being chased! The best part of the game by far. 1v1ing the killer and trying to outsmart each other is so fun. I enjoy having a fair showdown with the killer.
    2. Cosmetics. It feels good putting an outfit together like a fashionista, and getting a compliment from teammates or the killer too!
    3. Maps. I love new maps and seeing you guys rework old ones after a period of time has passed. It really keeps things fresh and entertaining.
    4. Being scared. I don’t get scared often on this game anymore, but a good Ghostface or Myers… LORD HAVE MERCY!
    5. Playing with intelligent teammates that actually do the objectives, and do what is necessary to keep the team afloat and on track to escaping. That can mean taking hits for a tunneled teammate, even so far as going down for them to buy more time while the other two teammates split up, one gets you up while the other takes another hit. It could mean pressuring a Gen even when somebody is getting chased nearby, or sacrificing a hook state to complete a crucial chokehold Gen. Intelligent, compassionate plays. I am impressed whenever I see someone actually using their brain. I am also impressed when someone KNOWS that I have been carrying, and they risk their own hook states to save me. I appreciate them going out of their way to show their own appreciation.
    6. Goofy teammates. I love them. I will sacrifice myself for them.
    7. FUN perks. CHASE perks. Gen perks are mind-numbingly boring.

Things I DON’T enjoy playing as Survivor:

    1. Camping.
    2. Tunneling. I don’t need to explain these two. They NEED to be tackled as problems and punished. We need to get these methods as close as possible to removal from the game.
    3. Unintelligent, selfish teammates who don’t play at my skill level. I play to win. It’s how I have fun. We can joke around in-game and still stay focused on winning.
    4. Bitter killer mains who decide to tunnel me out of the game, hit me on hook repeatedly or camp me to death because I ran them, and now it’s a 3-man out. I’m not going to BM you; I don’t go out of my way to make the killer’s experience miserable either. But I WILL sweat if need be to survive. It’s not personal.
    5. Terrible unsafe pallets or pre-existing dead-zones. I understand a dead-zone created by the fault of the Survivors. I do NOT understand a naturally existing dead-zone. There should be no reason an area of the map only has 1 or 2 pallets, and cut off from the rest of the map. Those are going to be used up fast, and we’ll need to do that Gen stuck right in the center of a dead-zone. If the killer knows about this, it’ll be the first spot they go to exploit and defend. As for the terrible unsafe pallets, a great example is Garden of Joy, where there is a pallet in the center of the road with hardly any space to loop it. Why does this pallet exist? Only an amateur killer would fall for that joke of a pallet. I get making pallets more risky, but pallets like those are just ridiculous. That’s not risky, that’s plain foolish to even ATTEMPT to use. I’d be better off just holding W.
    6. PING. PING. PING. I don’t know if the dev team has noticed, but the ping has been AWFUL lately. I don’t know if it’s because individuals are abusing lag switches or VPNs, or it’s something to do with your servers, or even both. But it HAS to end. I’m tired of getting sucked back through a window that I’ve fully vaulted with feet on the ground, hit through a window when my feet are on the ground, hit when I’ve vaulted over a pallet already, hit when I’ve slammed a pallet down before the swing was supposed to connect. It is incredibly frustrating. I don’t experience lag spikes or anything except on this game. I have great internet. I know it ain’t me. Hit detection NEEDS to be made neutral and not favor any side. Please look into this.
    7. Killers like SM, Knight, Blight, and Nurse are boring to go up against and need to be either nerfed, or reworked. The fact that the community knows how busted these killers can be in the right hands, and just says “Against a good ____ there’s not much you can do” is bad game design. There should ALWAYS be balanced counterplay. I should not be having to dodge a Blight bumping SEVEN times, when he can just break pallets anyways with his rush. Remove that ability! He shouldn’t have BOTH. SM should NOT be able to hold a 3-gen. She should be able to put a maximum of 2 drones on Gens. Knight should not be able to patrol hooks at all with his power. Period. There is NO reason a killer like Knight should be able to sit right by the hook, place a patrol down in front, move back and forth at the hook, rinse and repeat. This is trolling, because it is extremely unfun for the Survivors to go against.
    8. Lockers next to window vaults. Why? Garden of Joy has this. Why are the lockers incredibly close to window vaults at jungle gyms? There is no logical reason for this. This needs to be removed. I was looping today and got caught trying to vault a window, and ended up jumping in a locker instead. I got downed because of this. Stop putting lockers too close next to windows please. The distance of the killer shack lockers next to the window is PERFECT. That is how it should be.

Things I enjoy playing as Killer:

    1. Killers with a lot of mobility or speed. It’s fun. I like playing as Wesker. I see why Blight is fun, I don’t play him though. Bumping/rushing more than 3 times is way too much alongside being able to use one of the rushes to break pallets.
    2. Successfully defeating a team fair and square, no scummy tactics used. It is very satisfying to know I outplayed 4 other humans and was honorable about it too.
    3. Chasing Survivors. I love the thrill of it, where I can say “come out come out wherever you are!” Or “one way or another, I’m gonna find ya. I’m gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha!” To myself.
    4. Baby Survivors. I often have cuteness overload and pity them, and let them go after hooking twice.

Things I DON’T enjoy playing as Killer:

    1. T-baggers. There needs to be a cooldown on crouching, at least 3 or 4 seconds from the time you stop crouching (aka lift your finger off the button). You can crouch for AS LONG AS YOU WANT… BUT, you’ll now wait 3-4 seconds to be able to crouch again. This is fair. It also increases the risk for Survivors.
    2. Feeling powerless against a thousand-hour, sweaty SWF squad because they have all of my movements monitored and countered via voice chat before I can even ACT. This is also because I play fair and don’t want to rely on scummy tactics to force a win. I want them to have fun too.
    3. The lack of fun killer perks. Survivors have more fun perks to use while killers don’t really have any fun perks to use except NWO, sometimes NOED for the lolz, and Blood Warden. Again, Gen perks are boring.

    Thanks for listening! ❤️

The killer tunneling at 5 gens or when all gens are done are the same. The amount of gens done is dependent on the survivors, because a tunneling killer is not pressuring gens.

Complaining about killers tunneling at 5 gens is just saying that you and your team failed to work on your objective.

"Complaining about killers tunneling at 5 gens is just saying that you and your team failed to work on your objective." -- This is just a gaslight of the Survivor experience. If you were talking to someone less nuanced than I, they would tell you the same thing about Killers. "You can't be gen-rushed, you're just not good enough at chase."

A Killer tunnels at the start of the match, chooses the wrong Survivor and ends up still chasing the same Survivor for 5 Gens. Then they rage when they all get out. Then hop on the forums and complain that they were gen-rushed by an SWF. It's just not rooted in reality. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The game has problems right now, but tunneling is just as abusive and unhealthy to the game as camping is. I understand perfectly well why both playstyles are being done. That doesn't mean I think they're OK.

  • The game just needs to be balanced around spreading hooks and encouraging the fun (albeit challenging) part of the game, which is the chase.

Toolboxes need to be nerfed or reworked into primarily sabotage. Gen perks on BOTH SIDES need to be removed completely from the game, other than something like Technician (haha). Using Resilience while working on a Gen is fine, since it requires the player being injured to get that 9% boost. A lot of killers run Thana and Sloppy Butcher, so it will offset the boost anyways. That's my suggestion.

The only way a killer can tunnel a survivor out at 5 gens is if the survivors literally do not touch gens at all. The idea that the killer should wait for survivors to do gens before they can kill is simply survivors pushing their issues on the killer unfairly.

I don't understand where this hyperbole is coming from. Who is saying to wait for Survivors to do gens? Where are you getting this from?

Your first sentence is just incorrect. That simply just does not happen. Have you played solo queue? Do you know how many times a skilled Survivor will be trapped playing with random casuals who have less than 100 hours in the game? I myself have been a victim of witnessing my entire team being slaughtered in minutes, while I am still working on the first gen on the other side of the map.

How can you troll? There is no collision and you cannot do anything. You cannot really troll the killer. The only people you can troll are your teammates. However, that is something you can currently do.

That's an odd thing to say. You can definitely troll a Killer. Head On combo? Flashlights and sabos? T-bagging? Body-blocking doors with OTR? I think I'm missing a few more methods.

  • Let's say this would happen. I would TOTALLY buy Cordelia and Fiona Goode legendary skins on Mikaela since she's a witch, or Elodie as Marie Laveau.

  • I do think excessive slugging as in trolling should be stopped. Slugged Survivors should have the option to let themselves die if everyone else is either downed or hooked. Anything else I do not agree with. Slugging is fair. It's a fair way to build pressure or even end matches for Killers. Survivor mistakes should be punished and exploited by the Killer.

However, an example of a Survivor mistake does not entail camping or tunneling, perma-slugging. That is purposeful trolling and should be punished. For example:

"You let yourself go down near basement, so now I'm camping you."

"You took a protection hit for your teammate earlier when I was going to down them, so now I'm going to make sure to get you out of the match as fast as possible by tunneling you."

"It's your fault for doing gens incorrectly, so now I'm locking you into an excruciatingly long 3-gen until I kill you all one by one."

"You looped me too well, now I got pissed and so I'm camping you on hook until you die."

"I'm slugging all of you on the ground until the timer runs out."

These are NOT fair and are NOT fun.

I understand the confusion, my bet. Tunnelling is repeatedly going for the same survivor. They get unhook, and the killer goes for them again immediately actively ignoring other survivors.

I once proposed a very simple system here to counter it: When a survivor gets unhooked they loose collision with the killer. This loss of collision remains until they perform a conspicuous action. Basically, the survivor cannot be tunnelled but at the same time is also not contributing to the advancement of the game (not doing generators and so on).

The Survivor in me loves this idea, but the Killer in me does not. Having essentially perma-invincibility is just grounds for trolling. I can't agree with this.

Not bad idea but you can't tunnel gens remember literally the definion of tunneling got nothing to do with gens. The word you're looking is gen rushing. That is problem but not as big as tunneling which happens nesrly every game but both should be solved. Just repairing gens is not gen rushing but using perks, toolboxes and swf to coordinate and make them faster is. But problem also is right now gen repair times are too short they should increase them to 100s and nerf toolboxes and Bnb. On big maps gen could be increased to even 110s.

100 seconds? Are you serious? That's 3 minutes and 10 more seconds. That's boring. And then on top of that, you want to nerf toolboxes/BNPs. I agree. I can get with that. But not the 100s. No way.

i got an RTX 2060, all of my games run smooth asf but dead by daylight? i got play on high settings, edited my game user settings to uncap the fps, update my pc, update my drivers, verified my game files, i did everything, and yet the game is STILL dropping to either 60 frames or even 30 frames even tho i updated every and uncapped my fps???? like why isnt there a patch where they focus on performance issues and optimization cuz i been dealing with this since the hellraiser chapter and its still not sorted out, even when i play on low the game still drops to probably 40-60 frames, i even have vsync off yet it still drops frames

It may be your NVIDIA settings.

    1. Open NVIDIA control panel, click on Manage 3D Settings. Next to Global Settings, click Program Settings next to it. Find "deadbydaylight.exe" in the drop-down.
    2. Now in the box below, find Max Frame Rate. Change it to the maximum frame rate of your PC or 120fps, it doesn't really matter.
    3. Next, find Preferred Refresh Rate. Change it to Highest Available.
    4. Find Vertical Sync. Make sure it is on Global Settings (Use 3D application...)
    5. Apply all these changes. Boot up DBD and see what happens. Good luck!

Both are the problem, not only players.

If the devs took away the possibility of genrushing from the survs and gave incentives to the killers not to tunnel (rewards in game, that is), without punishing the tunneling too much, you see how all the possibilities of being toxic and break the game decrease.

How do you take the possibility of gen-rushing away from Survivors? I am genuinely curious about this. I don't know if they even can without outright pulling Gens as a game mechanic out completely.

They've given killers incentives before. We seem to have this same conversation every thread. Incentives do not work if the player is toxic.

made for this just needs to not stack with anything else and it will be annoying but fair.

    scavenger needs an entire rework.

I don't think that would solve the issue. I think buffing lower-tier killers to be faster/improve their powers would change that. Made For This is really not the threat it's being made out to be.

  • Camping and tunneling singlehandedly drove A LOT of players away from the game. Especially casual players who were trying to play it and have fun for the first time. I have about 5 friends I've tried to get into this game, and they deleted it after a few awful matches where they were tunneled and camped. They called it boring. Unfortunately, they were right. The reality is that newer players have no patience for toxic playstyles like camping and tunneling.

But the Devs are aware of these problems and have already begun taking steps to correct them. Patience, my friend!

  • @dgbug said:

I've been getting the feeling that BHVR's been intentionally making worse killer perks as opposed to survivor perks. Let's look at the Skull Merchant's perks vs. Thalita's perks, for example.

Leverage: S##tty anti-heal perk that won't even work most of the time due to people healing before hooks happen.

Game Afoot: Situational chase perk that is rarely usable, due to you dropping chase when you try to use it. Only even makes sense on certain maps like Dead Dawg. However, when this does work, it's crazy good.

Thwack!: Probably the best perk here, and that isn't saying much. It's a decent info perk held back by a hook requirement, and Infectious Fright, BBQ, Lethal, and Floods Of Rage are all better perks for aura reading.

Now, let's look at Thalita's perks.

Friendly Competition: Makes PT even better, with incentives to work on gens with others with 5% gen speed buffs. This with PT, Overzealous, and any other gen speed perk of your choice goes crazy.

Teamwork: Power Of Two: This is just Blood Pact on steroids. This, Hope, Dark Theory, and Blood Pact are an unholy combination from the pits of BHVR.

Cut Loose: Probably the worst of the three, and it's still decent. It's basically just quick & quiet with a weird restriction. Can be used to juice killers, but is situational at best.

Now, do you see the problem? It feels like Survivors have been getting much better perks as of recently, and the good Killer perks are unhealthy for the game (Looking at you, Old Ruin, Eruption, Etc. Etc.)

So what's the problem? Why can't DBD give killers the same type of perks they give survivors? This game doesn't have to be perfectly balanced, but I'm just noticing some fundamental design flaws in the perks they've been releasing.

Personally, I would opt to use none of these for either role. They're just not good in my opinion. I feel like Forged in Fog and Tools of Torment were transitional chapters to begin introducing sweeping changes and reworks to DBD's gameplay. It seems like they were just put out there to prevent the game from getting stale, while in the background they focused on planning out their roadmap. I am excited about the upcoming chapter and changes they've been making for lower-tier killers and survivors as well. It's a bit rough right now, but I am confident that DBD will end up being in a better place than it's ever been as time rolls on. I do think that Nemesis could use a better buff than the one they just did. I don't feel like it's enough for him to perform better.

  • @brokedownpalace said:

Because every single chapter there has to be at least one perk that everybody cries about, saying it will be OP and ruin the game and then 1 month after it's released nobody talks about it anymore.

I agree and it's starting to get embarrassing. Some players are so bored they are creating drama by hyping up certain perks that 95% of casual players will not even be aware of, nor care about using. I think they do this to hype themselves and others up for the chapter.

  • @KateMain86 said:

I think its time for survivors to get a more effective way to dodge killer attacks. Spin dodging is difficult to do against players who are half way decent at the game and even when you do dodge an attack you gain almost nothing without there being something very close to block the distance between you and the killer such as a window or pallet. When you're out in the open in chase with the killer, evading attacks feels impossible and you hardly feel like you get much distance especially after interactions such as getting tunneled.

I think its time survivors get a dash ability. Not a perk, but a basekit move that will allow us to perform a dash action similar to that of what the old dead hard did. It would be conditional and have a cool down of course because being able to unconditionally dash would be too powerful. Perhaps a certain number of uses each survivor can do it during the match, and it being more effective under certain conditions such as being tunneled or in chase with the killer for prolonged periods of time. If you're being tunneled off hook then you would be able to use dashes more often inbetween uses than a healthy survivor would. Survivors would need to manage their dashes because once they're gone then they're gone. I think a dash like ability would help survivors better deal with chase encounters other than just being able to run and hope a pallet or window is nearby.

If dead hard wasn't changed to what it is now I probably wouldn't be suggesting this. It was the closest thing we had to being able to do something like this and it was effective when used with proper timing. I'm still seeing too many killer players hard focusing and tunneling survivors out of matches. Even with the basekit speed and endurance effect we get after unhooks now it still doesn't feel like enough to deal with the situation. I would be fine with it even if a dash was implemented as an anti tunneling ability. We have to rely way too much on perks and even still our options feel very limited in so many situations.

How good are you at playing Survivor? Because there is no way you are asking for a dash ability when we literally have SB, Lithe, Smash Hit and even DH still. We just nerfed DH. I suggest you watch great loopers on YouTube because there is seriously no way anyone would think this would be a good idea.

  • I'm curious about a lot of you saying camping isn't as common. In my experience, camping happens in 3 out of 5 games whether it is proxy-camping or just straight up camping. Face-camping is rare, but the other two methods are extremely common.

Tunneling happens in almost every single game. It's gotten to the point where I am prepared going into every match to keep a chase going, if need be, by connecting TLs with jungle gyms. When I am being tunneled, I will greed and mind-game on pallets as much as possible by vaulting windows. Too many people pre-drop on safe loops without even risking it.

You're literally not reading what I'm saying and are making your argument into something completely different than what it was. Unreal. You literally claimed that what people say doesn't matter, the devs have decided it's happening and told someone their opinion and voice on it doesn't matter. I'm telling you that isn't true. It doesn't matter what their plan is right now, that has nothing to do with what I said and the fact that you were wrong.

It’s not that deep. Calm down. You’re taking this way too personal.

  • @MrPeanutbutter said:

Keep sticking with it. You’ll get better. These have been my key learnings in my experience playing killer:

    1. The matchmaking system does not work. It might as well not exist. every match I get is completely random in terms of skill level and play time of the other players that load in.
    2. The game is heavily, heavily balanced in favor of 3/4-man SWF squads. Everyone knows this, and those who say otherwise are not being honest. It just takes simple math to understand this. A coordinated team on comms who have halfway-competent loopers will get all the gens done by around your third hook +/- a hook unless they make huge mistakes or purposely screw around. In those types of matches, you will need to camp and tunnel to at least some extent to have chance. But due to survivor whining, BHVR are slowly eliminating your ability to use these tactics in matches that require it.
    3. You’ll have much more fun against solo q. The game feels much more balanced and I enjoy almost all my matches against solo q. I’m fine getting beat by a team that has some really good loopers as long as I know the deck wasn’t stacked against me because the team can constantly call out my location to each other or tell each other who should work on gens and who should go for body blocks/flashlight saves/hook rescues. Just try to dodge 3/4-man SWF if you can
    4. Play however you want to play. Don’t feel bad about camping or tunneling if the survivors are clearly going to sweat as hard as they can and give you a really tough match. You have just as much right to try hard to win as they do.

This is setting you up for failure. Camping is about to get heavily nerfed. It will be even harder to use this tactic to win, unless it's at endgame. Do not camp and tunnel for pressure. The more wins you secure, the more your ranking will go up and you will lose against even more sweatier opponents. Play normally, take Ls and learn where you can improve. If you're a Trickster, try getting some sick trickshots with those knives or hone your Huntress hatchet throw skills. Get better at forcing Survivors into a position where they will get hit with your whip as Nemesis, etc etc. Don't coddle yourself.

  • @MrPeanutbutter said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3436668#Comment_3436668

This really isn’t true, though. We all know through experience that the matchmaking systems functionally does not work because it heavily prioritizes speed over fairness. Lots of people on this forum, myself included, are constantly going back and forth between matches filled with noobs and matches filled with 5,000 hour+ sweat lords. Doesn’t matter how many matches I win or lose.

You literally just said why though. It is because of the declining player base numbers. The matchmaking system will just throw you in with whoever is queueing because it doesn't want you waiting forever for a match.

  • This is just marvelous. I hope everyone gets a chance to read this. It is what Killers need to know. Camping and tunneling cripples you. It does not make you better at this game. If you want to be seen as a legend, you're going to have to struggle against more intelligent, knowledgeable survivors. This is not COD where you load up and mindlessly rack up kills and rank up. It gets harder and harder the more successful you are.

  • @NekoGamerX said:

funny survivors want chases but after chasing one survivors 3 gens are done and by time you chase/down/hook the 2nd survivor all gens are done after this no more chases.

so does survivor want chases or gen sim?

because after this buff to Déjà Vu all gens be done by time you get your first hook.

Deja Vu has not and will never be meta, it is still a situational information perk. If a Killer is 3-genning and somebody is running Deja Vu? Great. You still have to do those gens. The survivors will still have to strategize and coordinate as a team, which is extremely hard with solo queue teammates. They are lowering the effectiveness of this unfun tactic, not removing it.

Note I didn't say they were fun, just valid. I don't even think necessarily they are unhealthy, but I wish they weren't as viable in the game as they are now. I think most (keyword most, there are outliers!) people understand that these are just valid things that can and do happen in the match, find them unfun but just hit next. Keep in mind, people here/twitter/reddit/steam forums/wherever are just a fraction of a fraction of the playerbase.

What I'm sort of more or less trying to say from my post though is I feel like posts like that are often over-exaggerated and people are probably not thinking about that much, and just click next. I think you should constructively criticize tactics you find unfun like those things, on either side, and post them, say, on this forums, but the post I replied to was not that, and is completely reactionary and is just as bad/ridiculous as reactionary posts of the survivors he are trying to mock.

They are valid in specific scenarios. At endgame, I'm not bothered by those tactics. I get a Killer trying to secure kills if they can. However...

If you are camping/tunneling at 3-5 gens, it is wholly unnecessary. You still have a bunch of time left to apply map pressure, make wise decisions concerning which generators to place as a patrolling priority over others. The only reason they are doing this is because they are either trolling or raging, which are both toxic.

"No one truly cares how you play!"

They say, knowing the Survivors care and the devs caved and are forcing Killers to play like NPCs to make Survivors happy:

    • Regression nerfed, so the devs cared about Survivors whining that they could not 4-man-escape all the time.
    • Tunneling not allowed, so BT became basekit, and Survivors started abusing it to bodyblock. Now they cry that BT did not fix tunneling, because they weaponized it.
    • Camping is soon not allowed, which will force Killers to 12 hook. And yet genrush perks are not only not even mentioned, but Survivors are getting a new one to replenish their purple toolbox charges after they use BNPs!

I fully expect something to become basekit to counter slugging, too. You know, since Survivors are being told through developer actions they get whatever they want if they yell loudly and long enough.

Oh yeah, and there's the guy claiming Killer regression perks should not stack, because them being nerfed was not enough. They need to be 100% useless.

And here's the thread where someone was saying there should be a perk to 'punish' Killres to hit Survivors on a hook: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3433908

    • Killers complained about Dead Hard. Dead Hard was nerfed several times, with the final nerf here completely rendering it a fraction of its original power. It was fair. Dead Hard's fall from grace helped killer mains a lot, and yet it still did not help to stop camping and tunneling. Big L for Survivors.
    • Gen time was bumped to 90s after killers complained about fast gen speeds. Surely you are not proposing Survivors stay on a gen for even more than 3 minutes?
    • Devs have begun map balancing updates and have made some maps a lot fairer for killers overall. In the roadmap, they have said it is one of their priorities.
    • Ghostface just received a good buff. More lower-tier killers are sure to follow in the coming updates.
    • Nurse can't be prevented from blinking anymore by flashlights, which was in my personal opinion an absurd change.
    • Wraith can't be flash-burned anymore, which was fair.
    • Overall, I think you are underestimating the level of work the Devs are putting into the game right now. I would suggest being patient. Trust me. This new generation of killers are NOT in a tough spot right now, a lot of them are just stuck on bad habits like camping/tunneling and are not used to using their brains to get kills. I don't know if I'm missing something, but I think I am. Let me know if you guys have anything else to add!

That isn’t in any way related to the argument I am making here. Obviously baby rage is whatever. My point is that playing to win is not ego-driven or toxic. It’s a pvp game

It is related. I gave you a real life example of how a Killer player’s ego affected the outcome of a match. He played how he wanted, he was playing to win. He was using a toxic playstyle too.

And then raged when it didn’t work. Therefore, just slapping “play how you want” does not make for a healthier game experience. It is good to show them where they can improve, not encourage lazy thinking.

Literally just play the game how you want. No one truly cares if you camp, tunnel, slug, don't 12 hook, 3 gen (with the intent of holding the game hostage), or you hit the survivor on the hook (which who actually is saying killers should get stunned or teleport for hitting on the hook lmao). Most people just shrug it off or get frustrated for the match, vent, and forget about it cause it's not that deep.

Except they do care. They really, really do. It blows my mind how one can play this game for years, even a few months consistently and say this. Everyone who plays DBD knows camping, tunneling, and 3-genning to a lesser extent have been controversial HOT topics, and both sides are fully aware that they are unhealthy and unfun.

Thankfully for the majority, they will not have to worry as much about the worse aspects of camping anymore after this new system comes in. Perhaps we will even see some people returning. As for the toxic killers that leave because of it? That’s fine.

Wanting to win isn’t an ego issue. Everyone is entitled to play how they want

No, they’re not. *They are “entitled” to follow whatever the devs/game decides is fair to play.* I just had a Ghostface ragequit because he failed to properly camp on me on the hook at endgame, and we all got out. He got mad because he was not good at chase, got a down and decided to take the stress of failure out on me by hitting me on the hook. They got the save and got me out, but before it could go through… he d/c’d. This is why camping is being nerfed. As killer, you don’t get to throw a tantrum when you get outplayed by indulging in cheesy unfun tactics. You *will* take your loss.

  • You sound so bitter about it. That’s too bad that it’s being nerfed then. Roadmap says anti-camping. I don’t know what to tell you. It’s trolling.

  • @Steakdabait said:

This is literally a killer buff but killers rather take any and all opportunity to complain than to see that. Facecamping will just result in you being able to tunnel them extremely quickly now that the survivor can self unhook instead of waiting 2 minutes for them to die on hook.

I agree, but I also disagree if that even makes sense. It depends upon how lucky the survivor is, how skilled they are at looping/mindgaming, and if teammates are taking turns with hits/working on Gens. It also depends on the type of killer and the amount of good pallets available to use. I’ve come back from being tunneled and lived with a combination of some or all of these things.

I'm talking about when 2-3 gens pop during your first chase. If the game is gonna be remotely competitive after that point you're going to have to force a trade or two or secure second stage. It punishes killers without mobility or an instadown especially.

I think their next thing should be to figure out ways to buff lower-tier killers instead of nerfing this mechanic before we even see its effects.

16m is not facecamping, directly in front of hook, or immediate vicinity by any measure unless you're actually on drugs.

If a killer is further than 10m away, that's more than enough distance to successfully unhook.

Deathslinger anyone? Nurse? Blight? Victor? Demo?

  • I have been saying this for years, and it is like a fever dream now that BHVR is actually implementing some kind of solution to camping. It is NOT a strategy. It is trolling. It might as well be considered an exploit, like infinite looping was. You are FORCING the match to grant you a high chance of an inorganic 3-4K victory, meaning you wouldn’t have obtained said victory if it was not for your refusal to patrol Gens and chase. It’s boring and it’s high time they took measures to stop this toxic behavior once and for all.

  • Genrushing does not exist. I don’t care how much you want it to. If you can’t generate and control map pressure, then that’s a skill issue. Do Gen times still need work? Yes. But you can only get “genrushed” if you tunnel, or stand still and do nothing. Camping defeats the entire purpose of the game. Chase, down and hook. Not hook one and stand still for 5 minutes until the others come to save.

Cool you play Spirit and dont camp, congrats on effortlessly winning your matches.

Other killers dont have the same amount of pressure and shouldnt be forced to play a stronger killer.

Camping is a strategy in a lot of games, yes it can be boring but you will live and move on to another game.

Why would you use this post to bring up an entirely unrelated issue? I understand that some killers have better mobility such as Spirit, but that is not the premise here. You could camp with a Trapper or a Doctor and still be just as deadly. Explain to me how camping is a legitimate strategy at 5 gens. Go.

Why would it imply that? Survivors hovering near the hook is a reason to camp, because they're on the timer, not me. And I'm going to burst your bubble, but even the world's best players need to camp in some situations.

That's not camping. Recently placing somebody on the hook and stopping them from being taken off within seconds is not camping, that's playing the game. Camping is intentionally refusing to leave one survivor on the hook for an extended period of time. Also, that wasn't a bubble to be burst. It's quite obvious that sometimes you'll need to camp, and those exceptional reasons were already mentioned in my post. This might burst your bubble, but most of the world's best DBD players/streamers have all come out against camping and tunneling.

If it wasn't an intended feature wouldn't they just remove it from the game instead of making perks around it?

Looping wasn't an intended feature either but they decided to incorporate the strategy into the design of the maps and perks.

Where did you learn that? How can looping not be an intended feature in a game of cat-and-mouse? Looping is a part of chasing, we do it in real life in a game of tag. I think you mean infinite looping.

If it was an intended feature, then it would have been announced to be officially a part of the game. However, with the inplementation of 6.1.0 there was a section literally called "camping and tunneling" which the devs themselves acknowledged as problems in the game.

Obviously. They. Don't. Find. It. Boring. Or. They. Wouldn't. Do. It

What. Does. That. Have. To. Do. With. Addressing. Camping

It's about balancing the game to ensure the quality of a game remains consistent and enjoyable to play for everyone to some degree. That is why the gaming industry exists, right? No one wants to play a boring game.

  • @RaSavage42 said:

    I won't camp unless:

I see a couple quick saves (that means there was another Survivor around)

    I see scratch marks nearby

3 Gens are done and I haven't gotten anymore then 1-2 hooks

Or if 2 Gens were done back to back (cause that would mean that 2 Survivors did one and the Solo finished off another Gen)

Like honestly I've only started to use Call Of Brine... but I haven't played since before the Dredge was released (So yea... chuckle)

So, then your version of camping falls within the reasonable range I already clarified above. That's good. If you continue to play like this, then you are contributing to a healthier game.

There is the Kinship and Reassurance perks that are designed to counter camping. Therefore, it's not appropriate to consider it an exploit.

They are designed to counter camping. Counter camping...counter camping...counter camping. So I have your consent then, OrangeBear, that camping is not an intended feature and is abusive? It is very appropriate to call it an exploit if more than two perks have to be designed to work around it. It's the same with gerrymandering in politics. Does that make it okay? No. Should more be done about it? Yes.

  • @Marik1987 said:

    Stop.Gen.Rushing, seriously

    Its broken.

Doing the objective in the game is not toxic. That is what survivors are supposed to do; it is the crux of their escape plan. I'm not sure what you are requesting here. Are you demanding that survivors not escape by doing Gens, stand by and let you kill them instead? On the other hand, there are no specific add-ons, offerings or anything else that is specifically designed to enhance camping. There may be some by side effect, but that was not their intended purpose. Therefore it is abuse of the game mechanics and should be punished. Bringing in a BNP coupled with a toolbox is not abuse, it is a literal item in the game. Camping is not an item, nor was it an intended feature.

  • One of the better killers, like I said? Lmao.

  • @Damarus said:

Posts like this are useless. Don't get me wrong, I hate campers and tunnelers, and I think they shouldn't simply be allowed to play, on any game, as the only thing they can do is going the cheesy easy no skill way and ruin the fun of everyone. But they don't care, because they are self-absorbed, because they are noobs, because if you take the easy way out of the game, they end up doing nothing even when facing bots on easy mode who are also afk. That's the truth. They are the reason why this game's commuity is so toxic, the reason for you to have the most fun on DbD when you turn it off, and there is no denying that. If and when BHVR will finally balance the game properly, these people will, more than likely, rid us of their unneeded presence.

I don't post for usefulness. I post for me. But I very much agree with what you've said.

  • @Yankus said:

when survivors stop clicking and taunting after every pallet I'll stop camping them

Did you read my post? I said toxic play warrants toxic play.

  • @SuzuKR said:

No thanks. If it's the situationally best play to camp and I feel like playing efficiently, I will camp.

"Situationally best" would imply that you are losing, which is why I mentioned certain situations that would be efficient to camp. As I said in my post, if you need to camp then you need to improve as a killer. A 4-man SWF that knows what they are doing renders camping utterly useless. It hurts you more than it helps.

  • Welcome to the DBD forums! Plenty of these lurkers are extremely snobbish, rude and cynical. I guess their lives suck or something, but they are always looking for something to argue about. In your case, they've chosen the way you've typed your post. They'll choose something else to be annoyed about on your next post. The only proper response back is to embarrass them in the most "civil" way possible.

  • @ImNotBobDylan said:

That was not sarcastic, I don't think you reach more than 20% with this build.

If you make an absurd claim, don't expect everybody to react nicely. Solo queue is bad enough right now, I don't need my teammates to run Deja Vu instead of OtR because they have read it on the forum

So you admit it then...that you didn't react nicely, but rather with attitude. That'll be all, your honor.

"The amount of "braindead teammates" crouching around the map, working on Gens while all 3 of their teammates have been downed is bot behavior."

In your first post you called pretty much any new person braindead. And I'll admit the pacifier comment was a bit much, so I apologize. There was no purpose to this thread other than complaining. There was no discussion to be had since you were rude to those who disagreed with you. So all I can take from that is you don't want a discussion and came here for an argument.

Talon, respectfully, my comments were not meant to be taken personally in any shape or form. I called them braindead because their actions in game are nonsensical, it was a harmless rant. I did not call out anyone specific, I am allowed to make these kinds of judgments based on how my teammates play. It's not like I verbally harassed them after the match. I do want a discussion and the purpose of this thread is my own. It was also to discuss how unbearable playing SoloQ has become, but your reply was not constructive and was very offensive. I was rude to one person who replied because I misinterpreted their words; they cleared up the confusion themselves. You don't need to take it upon yourself to speak for them when they did it themselves. You can accept responsibility for how you jumped at me without trying to place blame on me where there is none.
