I tried it and first game the Oni just let us pallet stun him and we all escaped. Second game killer was taking it very seriously and I was expecting to get hooked… turns out he just squashes you like a bug and the match is over for you immediately lol

Yeah one down then your killed. Only three Gens to do but that still seems kind of too quick of a match. Also I played three matches of this and gotten under 10,000 blood points each match. Maybe this mode is fun for killer like trying to find little survivors but the giant oni walking around the map makes it not scary. It's interesting. But it's just not as engaging as lights out was. Did someone vote for this in that survey? Or is it just a one day only thing because it's April fool's Day?

I have read many times that survivors do not want their prestige to be revealed in the pre game lobby. The reasoning behind it is that killers seem to tunnel P100 survivors quite frequently. I personally don't have a P100 survivor, so I cannot speak on this. However, it seems unintuitive to me because we also have people dodge lobbies with P100 survivors.

This would imply that some killer players are intimidated by high prestige survivors. If that is the case though, why would they tunnel them instead of the low prestige players in the lobby? Is that really a common thing?

Another question I have is how people typically react to your P100 characters in the end game chat. I have seen everything from people being happy to play against me to prestige shaming but it's mostly positive reactions, if at all.

If you had the option, would you hide your prestige in the pre game lobby? Would you do it in the post game lobby too?

Yeah I would hide it. I got a p69 that took me 17 months to get. Prestige means nothing. It's the Steve's at p1 you got to be careful of.

I would think Maiden and BHVR would want to make as much money as they can. It would make sense to have them available always.

People coming into the game later down the road who are maiden fans will snatch them up. It just makes monetary sense to me.

    But, never can tell.

Heck yeah. I want an Eddie skin for Legion 😭

  • Lol. The players who start their posts with their in game hours will have more.

Yes, as a lifelong Iron Maiden fan, this is one of the most exciting things to come out for the game. I honestly hope this collab does well so we can get more Legendary Eddie skins, 4 Eddie's is too small, at least a couple more would make the collection feel more complete. There's so many Eddie's to choose from and I am personally wishing for the first album Eddie for Legion and Killers Eddie for Huntress. Piece of Mind would be awesome as well.

Title, ever since the beginning this has been one of the worst parts of Solo Q and there hasnt been any hint of the devs doing anything about it. Worst part is it goes around the disconnect penalty, and doesnt even leave the rest of the team with a bot which is without a doubt better than nothing.

Making it reportable would not only deincentivize people from dcing, but also punish repeat offenders. I cant see how this is a bad thing

Now before you all say "but there are certain times where its the correct play!!" and to that I say bodyblocking. It is also a punishable offense, but only if it holds the game hostage. It is VERY clear when it is used strategically and to hold the game hostage. Killing yourself on hook is also VERY obvious when it is done to throw the game.

If its not made to be reportable, then come up with a solution.

Report for not engaging in normal gameplay

Survivor players shouldn't get DC penalty anymore anyway because of bots. And if intentional dying on hook is bannable maybe tunnel/camping/slug or AFK be bannable. The devs stated that defending gens is not normal gameplay. Bannable? Complaining on forums bannable?

  • Me too! When I am totally trashing survivor team I take a minute and just run the walls and let them recover and at least try and have a little fun in the game. I usually don't go for sacrifice unless I didn't see that somebody had like gotten themselves to struggle phase on purpose. I try not to chase the same survivor twice or hook the same survivor twice in a row. If I catch somebody trying to hide I give them chase just to see what they can do and give them a little experience learning how to loop. It's an experience for me as well. I usually try for two hooks per survivor and if they want to be killed in the end then I do it, and some of them actually do. Winning is oh so much more than a 4K.

Oh yeah i know killer players are super ecstatic about this new mode

So, was this a marketing technique to appease killer players who aren't able to play effectively in normal matches?

  • @EvilSerje said:

Btw, what was the idea behind it? Some counterplay, or tactic, or whatever?

Now it looks boring from either side.

From survivor side, you just die, because you cannot anticipate killer approach in any way, you don't see him or hear him, he just appear beside you. So, no chasing, no hiding. What then?

From killer side, you don't need to do anything, you just walk along conveniently higligted red spots aka gens and kille anyone near.

And with all of that, some still camp and tunnel.

So, what was the idea? I'm trying to find, but obviously missing the point.

Yeah I guess they wanted to coddle killer players.

  • @Xernoton said:

You are not supposed to wiggle off on your own. If you could wiggle off that easy, wouldn't that be pretty unfair? I mean, the killer first had to find you, then injure you and get the down. That is a lot harder and takes a lot longer than wiggling off.

The wiggle mechanic comes into play when your team plays around it. Meaning, sabotaging hooks, using perks for you to wiggle off or taking hits. It also prevents the killer from carrying you around indefinitely. If it were to be disabled, you would see a rise in basement camping.

But don't killer players hate organized SWF with comms?

  • Also, someone got tunneled and really didn't like it. What matches are short anyway so what's the use in getting upset? I got upset and I still get upset but I just play on.

This game mode has succesfully allowed us to witness DBD's issues in an amplified manner, as someone mentioned here on the forums. With multiple discussions being formed regarding the unpleasant experiences people have encountered, one thing seems to repeat the most - tunneling. Who would've thought that in a game mode where anti-tunnel perks are non-existent and killers are ENCOURAGED to tunnel (thanks to survivors being stealthy, the whole point of the game mode) that this would happen? Proxy camping is a whole other issue I'm not even going to go into here because it's self-explanatory with no terror radius presence and goes hand in hand with tunneling. Tunneling has stained every experience it touches and nerfing Onryo's tunneling potential does not compensate for this stain. Something more has to be done about this playstyle or there needs to be a new matchmaking system that provides reliable teammates to have games not end up in 3v1's at 3-4 generators every couple of games. I understand that it's a strategy and necessary sometimes, but it shouldn't feel necessary. Mitigate tunneling so that it doesn't ruin just 'one' person's experience (when it affects the entire team) and compensate for it. I don't have a specific idea in mind, but I really want to play old DBD again, where different playstyles were encouraged and it didn't feel stale and mind-numbingly dull to play. Being happy that I'm not getting tunneled or proxy camped shouldn't be a thing, I shouldn't feel forced to run anti-tunneling perks to have a chance at countering such an obnoxious playstyle, I shouldn't be punished for spreading hooks, etc.

Incentives can only do so much so I really don't know what the next steps are here. Tunneling isn't going anywhere until something sufficient will be done. I'm glad this isn't a permanent game mode, but a little reality check where you play a couple of games and then never want to play again since it's that bad. Had high hopes for this game mode, but here we are.

I think a lot of killer players who thought they were actually good at this game are going to realize how much they rely on scratch marks and perks. And I think a lot of survivors that could pull off those flashlight saves and jump through windows and drop pallets realize that without their perks they're just like the rest of us.

I'm curious about people who say they haven't heard of the game. Are you not into horror games? Only asking because if someone was into horror games I would be surprised they haven't heard of the game.

I'm pretty old. I know Resident Evil 1 and 2 on PS1. And Parasite Eve. Silent Hill 2 on Xbox. And DBD. Movie tie in dlc is what I'm into. Except Chucky.

I can't be the only one who had never even heard of Alan Wake prior to his release announcement.

I didn't hear of Alan Wake either.

  • It just looks like they're trying to find a way to nerf skilled players and buff unskilled players. The data was so different. Skilled survivor players lose to Nurse and Blight. Unskilled survivor players lose to Sadako and Freddy. Unskilled survivor players have no use for Adrenaline. Unskilled killer players desperately need NOED. But they're never going to be able to balance every player's skill level, and they shouldn't bother trying. Queue times won't skyrocket either. Backfilling will keep the times low. It's also a good opportunity to see how you stack up as a player. Unskilled survivor players will complain about the game. Skilled survivor players will complain about their teammates.

In the end, it's about opening new revenue streams. New player sounds of joy need to drown out old player sounds of anger.

Yes, it's solo queue. We're at 5, soon to be 6 stages with 4 gens remaining against a Nemesis, a killer who needs 3 hits to down with his power. I've been chased twice, but not downed. I've also done the only gen between 4 players.

Where is my agency as a player in all of this? What am I supposed to do? Do I just lose the second I queue up? What is the selling point here gameplay-wise? There is no "escape enough and you escape these lobbies". When players have my experience level, we generally have 2+ escape. But I generally don't get matched with players near my experience level. I wouldn't be posting this if this game was irregular. I've put 4500+ hours and easily hundreds of dollars into this game while trying to be good at it, and these are my lobbies. Surely one can understand why that would be very frustrating for a player.

I'm not asking for free escapes. I'm asking for the game to respect the time I put into it. I don't think that's an unfair ask.

    Edit:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/0985SRI2BSZA/screenshot-2024-01-27-00-24-35.png

And lest someone accuse me of being a whiny survivor main, I present my most recent killer game from tonight. At this point, I need proof that matchmaking is even turned on, because I straight up don't believe it.

It's you, man. You're getting in those lobbies and giving those poor survivors a killer above their skill level. Make some friends your skill level and SWF. Leave those newbies alone. And don't sneak in on some poor killer who has low skill.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3634383#Comment_3634383

I mean, there *should* be a point where the killer at least considered switching targets, especially if a chase lasts 4 gens. If 3 survivors finish 4 gens, that chase is lasting several minutes and the killer is getting drastically outplayed in chase by their current target or they're making a large number of mistakes themselves.

The problem here is that nearly all roads lead to tunneling:

    • Is the first chase short? Well, guess we've found an easy target, and the answer is tunneling.
    • It's the first chase long? Well, the killer invested too much time and had to guarantee a kill this game, and the answer is tunneling.

So if you're saying there's actually no point where the killer would ever consider switching targets if a chase is taking too long (which is honestly just good game sense) then quite literally tunneling is always the only play.

Gee, I wonder why this is such a common way to play the game.

Yeah. The game became so easy for new killer players and as soon as the difficulty comes in it's either tunnel and camp or go AFK a lot to try to lower your MMR. Shame, that. Chase them, hit them, kick gens, interrupt healing, sacrifice when necessary, but in the end let them go. Raise your blood points not your MMR. And don't watch DBD. Play DBD.

  • @okaayletsgoo said:

because every game is either tunnel or slug at 5 gens. Solo q is such a nightmare man. Every single game is either tunneled out in the first couple minutes or slugged and bled out. It's just not fun at all. DS is useless, off the record is cool but most killers can catch right back up to you in a few seconds, ftp buckle up is a good counter but requires someone to be literally following killer around and not doing gens or doors. So many killers have insta down mechanics that I think and insta up is a fair trade. The only thing survivor has going for us right now is gens speeds and that's IF you can get your solo q mates to do gens. 90% of my irridecent rank games (not that it means much these days) is over at 3-4 gens with 4 dead. Not sure how that's considered balanced.

I am so happy where I am in terms of MMR. This game sounds awful for high MMR players. Every match I have is either everyone trying to rescue in the killer's face or no one rescuing and not doing gens. But also we get really great games where everyone has about the same skill level and none of us are good. I love this game. I hate this game. I love this game.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

8 is good number because it gives enough rooms for gen kick builds. But 8 also good because it will actually punish gen camper killers. Like they will force to chase survivors and hook them. Because gen camping won't be effective as before.

So this new system is hardly will effect killers who was playing just normal game but killers like SM can't hostage people in game anymore.

Players who want to take a game hostage. Players. A person. They'll still try their darndest.

  • @I_CAME said:

No. It's just the usual suspects being dramatic as always. It definitely isn't happening in my killer matches and I run a lot of gen perks. This will be like the anti camp where it does absolutely nothing except in EXTREME cases. If anything they are being way too lenient out of fear of reddit killer mains losing their minds.

    Hehehe reddit killer mains 😂

  • NOED is annoying but hardly a problem. The real problem is sloppy butcher. That's the real hand holding perk. When running pop and sloppy, do you often get to endgame? If you're getting value from discordance, you're playing with amateurs. Change out pop for oppression, change discordance for gearhead. If you want. You could just try it out. A lot of people see NOED the way others see DS/Unbreakable. Don't worry about them. And turn off chat because people get ridiculous with anonymous poor mouthing. Any effective thing the opposing side does will be complained about by poor sports. People have sent me jerk messages from three matches previous. The stakes are so low. I never think, dying on hook, "That match before was so awesome. For a few minutes I was king of DBD." 😂 Play on!

Skull Merchant with the right shoes

  • When I play killer and don't down someone fast enough I hear the DC noise which makes me feel bad because I think that player quit because they felt I wasn't in their league. I wish killer didn't hear that noise. It's very insulting. Well whatever. I adjust my play style. Truthfully I tunnel out the bot and let the human players leave. I don't care about points or winning. I only care about fun and camaraderie among the players.

  • @apathyinc said:

I go with what the scoreboard says. Bloodpoints are the only real reward for playing a match, all the other crap is in our heads.

Yeah that's how I kind of look at it. The score, as long as I don't get fourth place or 5th behind the killer player then I'm fine and I don't feel bad like I could have done more for my team. I play Skyrim and Fallout 4 and when I get killed in combat and have to reload, I don't see that as a loss, and so that's where I'm coming from with playing Dead By Daylight---which is the only multiplayer "competitive" game I play.

  • @RpTheHotrod said:

Fairly black and white. The devs stated each survivor has their own win condition. That means if a survivor escapes, they got a personal win.

For killers, BHVR has not mentioned, but the community has widely accepted that 0-1k is a loss, 2k is a "draw" (though there is no draw since you cant draw vs 4 individual players with their own win condition, so this is essentially a loss), and 3k+ is a win.

Bear in mind, MMR adjustments don't necessarily reflect winning or losing. You can lose and still not go down in mmr, for example.

That's why killer players AFK on weekday mornings. I see them. And when the killer is AFK and all we do is run and do gens, I just let the timer run out and get sacrificed because I'm not messing with my stuff if the killer player is just going AFK to have easier matches later in the week so they can just destroy noobs. And I wish everybody that played against an AFK killer player would just stay in the match and get sacrificed so that killer player got a 4K and defeated the purpose of AFK to derank. But that is a different thread.

  • Yeah. Sometimes it's kind of funny. 3 flashlights in the lobby. Gaudy cosmetics. Killer brings heavy determination and all survivors sacrificed at 4 gens without an ounce of flashlight spent. Sometimes it's so one sided I just want to give up. If the killer brings a mori, I do my best to take it in an open area. Or sometimes the killer gets a 4k at 4 gens with one yellow perk.

  • @savethekillerforlast said:

Survivors are not healing anymore. Everyone are tunnelling generators. They are hearing your terror radius and starting run away. You chase them, other generators will repair so fast. You leave, they will back and repair generator again.

Meg and Feng perks are not fun for killers.

Exhaustion perks are so strong. Why only nerf for killers? Why no nerf for survivors?

Just tell the devs to start survivors on the ground and on death hook. Survivor players will figure it out and then killers will have to be buffed even more. Are killer players lazy or bad? How many survivor nerfs before killer players are satisfied?

  • THWACK!

lol It's fun to make survivors scream after they drop a pallet on my face.

  • BHVR doesn't need Otzdarva. BHVR passed a point where they are established, DBD is established. These forums seem to be turning into customer complaint lines. Welcome to DBD. BRING MONEY.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Some of the answers were downright out of touch. Particularly their answer regarding solo. "Friends were together more than the average human" or something to that effect. Really? You think teamwork is the biggest issue in solo queue? Not the fact that one player in that lobby will go down instantly 3 times and the killer won't be able to down another survivor in that same lobby? That skill gap between teammates isn't the issue? It's...teamwork?

Yeah I heard they started back filling players in matches to keep queue time short because people were complaining about long wait times. Yeah so low skill players have to get thrown in front of merciless killer players who focus on the "weak link" and then take the group down. It's really not fair for low skill players to go up against high skill players just because some people complain that the lines were long. And it's the same way for killer players but at least they get to stay in for the whole match.

  • @UnknownKiller said:

Im my opinion event is not really good so i play as i usually do.You can keep throwing snowballs each other but dont complain if i hook you.I would like something more dynamic than get snowballs and throw it

But I NEED the cosmetics on characters I never use. DBD has me hooked.

  • Sorry for the complaining. It was a inexperienced nurse player who slugged everybody. I'm fairly low skill so I imagine I play with other low skill players. And it's the first day of the event. And my first event match. I just wanted to throw some snowballs. The next match Was a legion player that hard tunneled out a feng player and then memed. The feng player probably did bad manners idk. DBD is whimsical sometimes.

  • Most players I go against don't tunnel. But it is a pretty good strategy for winning. But winning raises MMR. Ultimately, the player will go AFK on weekday morning matches. I see a lot of that with Wraith and Cenobite. Even Mastermind. Artificially lowering your MMR like that is a workaround to have easy mode in the game. But these players come home probably from working all day and they feel like crap and they just want the high of winning in a match. Sometimes, the player just wants to lash out. Sometimes the player is just a child. Maybe later researchers might use the way people play this game as some kind of indicator as to how they were treated by their fathers. But they are just people playing this game and they bring whatever dysfunction they have with them. Matches are short. Play on.

  • The devs let us play survivor in their killer game long enough. Survivor bots will be the norm and killer players get their cake. At least we got a few years of playtime. Right?

  • Was it broken? I never saw anyone use it. My rating has to be low because I get sacrificed way more than I escape. Are good survivor players better than good killer players? It's a serious question. I don't care what happened in DBD 5 years ago. I'm talking about new players coming in right now.

  • Yeah. A 40 minute match? Forcing a 3 gen situation is viable killer player strategy. Holding the game hostage like that is poor playership. There's not really a good solution. I don't want to see match timers. I don't want to remove the 3 gen strategy. The random players you were with may have been new if they didn't know about the three gen strategy. Just like Windows of Opportunity, new players should use Deja Vu to help learn about 3 gen. It appears to have been the killer player's intention to hold the game hostage just for cruel giggles. Just like basement Bubba or AFK Pig were cruel strategies. Maybe when there's 1 gen left a 5 minute timer starts and the match ends in a draw if the killer player won't "participate in normal gameplay". Or hatch opens. But that might be as bad as the last survivor standing thing. Or maybe with 1 gen left there's no DC penalty.

  • Yeah just for your self. And bp bonus as incentive. I like that. Like a button on the load out menu

  • I totally understand. I hit 21 great skill wiggle checks and still got hooked. 21. 21 great checks. That's a long walk to a hook to not wiggle off. It should be rare but not impossible.
