  • I've been playing without regression / slowdown perks for more than a year and I can see where you're coming from. It's definitely rough. However, I think the healing nerfs will have a bigger impact than we might think. This overall is a greater change than even 6.1.0 and I cannot predict how I will perform as a killer or survivor in the near future.

I personally think that these regression nerfs are horrible, mainly because all these perks are dead. No amount of "but they could be useful, if / when..." is going to change the fact that these perks don't fulfill their 1 purpose anymore. CoB doesn't make any sense and OC is a risk with too little payoff to be considered an option. Pain Res is not warranted to be a scourge hook perk.

This doesn't change a lot for me but why would we need even more useless perks than now? We already have Furtive Chase, Calm Spirit, No Mither (given it has niche, but it's still a meme), Territorial Imperative, Beast of Prey and more. They should be reworked to do something different at least.

  • This happened back when SpaceBilly was still a thing. I tried a jump I knew on Ormond and well...

    steamuserimages-a.akamaihd2.jpg

    That happened.

Around the same time I found a way to escape the entity:

    steamuserimages-a.akamaihd3.jpg

No matter how long I fell, I wouldn't come down. When I went for another chainsaw sprint, however I suddenly found myself in the middle of the map again.

  • Boons are inherently flawed because like hexes they need to provide a strong effect, that isn't game breaking. Currently they are balanced around the idea of being reusable. If you take that away they become pretty much useless. If you buff them, so that they would be strong enough to be usable once only, that creates issues for low mobility killers that cannot traverse maps quick enough to even afford going out of their way to snuff boons.

Balancing boons is a finicky thing.

  • We'll see how it turns out. I agree, that all 3 regression perks that got touched are pretty much dead but the medkit and DH nerfs are a big deal. No more third health state in the first chase and no more 5 seconds self-heals will have a big impact.

I do believe BHVR will closesly monitor the kill rates and make adjustments, if necessary. Especially since this has a bigger impact than 6.1.0.

  • No offense, but the best thing you can do for now is take a break. Remember, this is a game. Games are supposed to be fun and enjoyable.

See how you feel in a week or two and give it another go. I've done that multiple times and it really helps.

  • For most killers the only real way to build pressure is by hooking survivors. For now an injured state doesn't matter. You need to get a down and a hook.

This requires you to end chases quickly. When playing a weak killer try not to chase a survivor in a very strong set up. Instead take a free hit and let them reset somewhere else. At the very least they'll use up some charges on their medkit. Don't waste your time trying to outplay stronger pallets. If you cannot get a hit using a quick mindgame, break it.

Do not try to defend every single generator. There are gens that are so out of position that you cannot patrol / hold them. If you see survivors working on a gen you cannot defend, let them do it and focus on narrowing down the playing field. You don't need to solely focuse on a 3-gen but if you can force survivors into 1 part of the map and destroy its resources, you'll have a much easier time.

Do not be affraid to play efficient. A survivor that bodyblocks you with OTR is basically asking to get hooked again. If you find yourself in a position where there are only a few seconds left on a survivor's hook stage, then that means the survivors screwed up and you can use that. I'm not saying you should tunnel and camp the hell out of survivors but if they put you in a position where it's the most effective thing to do, why wouldn't you do it?

Most importantly, play to your killer's strength. Each killer offers an individual power that excells in certain situations. You can learn how to use these tools to their best capacities and profit on that.

  • The nerfs to his map mobility hurt. It's unnecessary and basically removes some less viable but creative and fun play styles. But it's likely the closest thing to a QoL improvement this killer is ever going to get. At least you won't overheat in chase anymore. Didn't happen all that often before either but now you really don't even have to consider the possibility.

Also, you can now camp pretty much just as good as before overheat was introduced. Yay?

  • @LooeDbD said:

I just see the best billy players just spinning their camera a thousand times around a loop and landing the hit, like anyone can do that and people say its a high skill killer?

Yeah Billy is easy. Hitting a curve, that requires perfect timing and perfect execution in a fraction of a second (max 0.75 sec) and that punishes you for even the smallest mistake is no problem at all.

It definitely doesn't require you to have a feeling for the turn rate, know the exact timing, calculate your own position in a loop, perfect positioning to not bump because you turned to early, knowledge about each tile's geometry and hitbox as well as survivor movements and positioning.

Seriously, play him and try to do it yourself.

  • Honestly, I cannot predict how this will turn out in the long run. Self-healing gets a massive nerf and there's almot no gen regression left. CoB and OC as well as Pain Res are all pretty much dead. This will lead us to a gen rush meta, no doubt. However, some killers can build insane pressure against injured survivors especially without DH, so I'm not yet sure how the balance might shift.

  • It has been a week and we can still only speculate on the how the changes many people think are unjustified came to be.

BHVR, please give as a bit of insight on why exactly you nerfed the Engravings, especially in the way you did. These are massive changes, that from my perspective as a Hillbilly player do not make sense.

  • Maybe if they added a different game mode. It's a nice thought but probably would be a balancing nightmare and also survivor characters would end up powercreeping each other sooner or later.

  • I'm not going to mince words here. They butchered his Engravings and even most of his other addons (even though they didn't touch them). The increased overheat kills the turn rate addons and the iridescent addons for the most part as well as running halfway around the map will make him overheat already. Junkyard Airfilter and Punctured Muffler are now useless in loops and won't help with map traversal (20% is not enough to compensate this). The Pighouse Gloves and Big Buckle, which were already quite bad to begin with, got nerfed passively as well, since you can't overheat on command anymore without wasting 15ish seconds.

I said before that no matter what, people would still run Engravings over anything else. Seems I was wrong. They take forever to charge (yes, 6% more is a lot) and the payoff just isn't there anymore. His Doom Engraving is now worse than the old Death Engraving. What kind of joke is this? He had 3 genuinely good addons left. Now it's 1 1/2.

To top it off the overheat change allows him to rev his chainsaw for an entire hook stage without overheating! Wasn't this the reason they implemented the overheat in the first place? If we no longer care about that, why should we care about him being able to run across the map? This is the healthier alternative after all.

TL;DR: Rest in Peace, Billy. You will forever be remembered as a killer that was fun to play as and against.

At least Blight's speed addons, Alch Ring, C33 and Adrenaline Vial were left untouched. Good to see that nerfing Billy is still a high priority even after 4.1.0.

    True,

I have spent roughly 500 hours on Billy and i still feel like an absolute noob against most survivors on difficult loops, however the satisfaction of a perfectly executed curve around a well trained loop is immense. There is not a single other Killer whch brings me this Kind of joy.

Agreed. It's uniquely satisfying to hit a chainsaw. If it was just about speed and insta downs I'd have switched to Oni a long time ago but Billy feels like a killer that can, if played well enough, use his chainsaw anywhere while still providing sufficient counterplay. I have played countless games of chainsaw only Billy and I can say that this is not really viable. But it's so fun that I continue doing it. With roughly 600 hours on this killer I can see myself getting better playing around "easy" loops and dealing with survivors spinning but nothing about this killer comes easy (at least to me).

I still get destroyed by many survivors that I know I could catch, if I played a different killer. But because Billy is fun and allows me to go for a million different mindgames and plays I don't care about that.

I still remember when I started playing this killer and had to force myself to chase survivors around shack so I would get better at it. The countless times I bumped into the doorframes or barely missed a survivor that was running around it. But seeing how much better I've become at dealing with those makes me want to play Billy even more, get even better, learn more angles and mindgames.

  • I doubt it. The game can't even handle more than 2 zombies at once. Complex weather effects would be nice to see but probably not manageable.

  • Some killers aren't desgines to have mobility. For example Trapper, Hag, Doctor, Nemesis, Pig and Deatslinger. Giving these killers more mobility will not fix the main issues. Instead this would create new issues. Mobility is not the kind of fix you might think. There are very good killers in this game that don't have mobility like Plague, Pyramid Head and Artist.

I think most weaker killers need indivudual buffs in their powers and chases as well as some reworks (Freddy and Myers).

  • We'll see how it does on the PTB but I think 75% would be ok. 100% really don't need to come back. We've seen how ridiculous that could get and really don't need to revive those days.

OP said that they have 20-25ms ping, how is that bad ping? The fault lays with the servers/game that pits people with fastly different pings together in one lobby.

The change to PR, COB, Overcharge etc. is mostly because of the massive nerf to base healing time and the medkits in general. You cannot expect survivors to do 5 gens, with nerfed healing, no CoH, and have the PR COB and Overcharge as they are now. That would obliterate SoloQ. Good swf players will probably be fine.

SoloQ will be obliterated anyway. Just as killers. We're probably going back to where some top tier killers and high level SWFs are dominating everything.

In my opinion the healing nerfs were too heavy. Altruistic healing was never an issue and shouldn't be touched but making perks completely useless cannot be the answer.

I disagree, if an addon combo in particular is causing a high kill rate bHVR needs to bring out the hammer.

If not by that logic no addon could ever be nerfed.

That's exactly the issue! Billy doesn't have a high kill rate. If he did, we'd have seen that. Since the last kill rates things only got worse for him. So his kill rate suddenly rising wouldn't make any sense. And even if it did, that would have nothing to do with Engravings because they weren't touched in nearly 1 1/2 years. If anything it would be more realistic for his kill rate to have fallen. Every new map screws him over, every reworked map becomes horrible for him and he got nerfed multiple times (base kit). If his kill rate did miraculously sky rocket however, wouldn't it make more sense to instead revert the changes they made to his Engravings in 5.3.0? Because back then they were considered weak enough for a buff. Instead they bring out the heavy weapons and butcher him yet again.

Your speculations are based on Hillbilly being too strong with these addons. How would you even know that? BHVR NEVER said that Hillbilly was overperforming. LITERALLY NEVER. Not even when they reworked him.

There were never official stats where we could see his kill rate being too high. And since he didn't get any buffs in 1 1/2 years even speculating in that regard makes no sense.

This is the last I'll say on that matter since we're talking in circles. There is literally no base to your claims other than "BHVR wouldn't nerf him, if he wasn't too strong.", even when they did so before.

  • That is not the full picture. There are situations where latency works in the survivor's favor. Mainly grabs. Grabs often get validated into hits that will miss their target. If your ping is bad, don't blame the killer for that.

I've seen some weird hits happen and I'd be happy to see those dealt with as long as it doesn't make survivors completely unhittable near pallets and vaults (I don't want to go back there, horrible times!).

DH is different from that. It's a meta perk that made this game incredibly stale. It took years and several killer meta perks to even get some changes to it. Now they change it again at the price of Pain Res, Overcharge, CoB and it's still not even a dead perk. Unlike these 3 killer perks. They aren't worth a perk slot anymore.

Honestly, there does not need to be a post of someone complaining about an addon for bHVR to nerf them. bHVR are perfectly able to see which combo of addons the best performing Hillbillys are using. I think they stick out like an infected thumb.

I can complain plenty about Hillbilly if you ask me.

Funnily enough, in the case of Hillbilly these statistics wouldn't tell you anything. Why would a good Hillbilly run any other addon? Engravings at least provide some consistent value even, if they're not as good as they could be. Also they provide the exact value Billy needs. More speed. Even if they only added 5% speed they'd still be his best addons (right after LoPros of course). His other addons are all worthless. Literally worthless.

I've played douzens of games with each addon, even committing full builds to getting value out of them and I can tell you; it doesn't work. Name 5 Billy addons that would actually give me an advantage. Something useful. Something that I'd need. You're gonna have a hard time with that. Higher turning rate only works on specific maps, so I'd have to burn a map offering as well and be lucky enough for the survivors not to send me somewhere else instead. Overheat addons don't help me out in the slightest, since I don't overheat anyway. His green addons are all incredibly gimmicky (besides Doom Engraving and Low Kickback Chains, which only help when you mess up). 3 of his purple addons are either bad or gimmicky as well. His iridescent addons are the definition of gimmicky and don't help you at all against survivors that have the power of 2 human eyes and a brain. Only one of his brown addons is somewhat useful and that comes with a massive downside (Heavy Clutch). 2 of his yellow addons are completely pointless. The only generally good addons he has are the Engravings and the LoPros. His other somewhat useful addons are still weak af and too situational to be good.

Something performing the best does not mean it's overperforming. Billy isn't overperforming. Period. If he was we'd have seen that with the last kill rates or the ones before. Because since he has not received a single buff. Quite the opposite in fact. It's been nerfs and shadow nerfs as well as reworked maps, which are all horrible for him, no exceptions.

By your own words it should be quite ease to hit these curves because you just 'slide off' of cars.

Never said it was easy, they are using an unintended mechanic that bHVR has left in.

You are one of the very few people that don't like Hillbilly. Otherwise we would see some more people complaining about him. I think this is more of a you problem than it is a Hillbilly problem.

Nah, he is so rarely played and when hes played, they don't play that way. People have just unfortunately accepted it and that's the reason. So I might as well take it to bHVR, raise the concerns and have them take a good hard and honest look at the Killer and fix the issues they have neglected.

If it was unintended, there wouldn't be an increased turning rate to begin with. That is not a bug and it's not useful for anything else. For mobility you don't need it, for running in a straight line it cannot help you. This is intended. That is also the reason why they take shorter chainsaw sprints into account. You will never go for a 10m sprint otherwise because it wouldn't not provide any value.

Most people, that play Hillbilly will play him that way. Newer players don't pick him at all because he is so punishing. And the people that play him, play him for exactly that mechanic. He is mostly played by people that either main him or are naturally (for example Otz) good enough to do well with him. Not going for curves means you can only use the chainsaw for back revving and mobility. His mobility is overshadowed by many other killers and back revving is boring for one and not really possible against good survivors.

Fortunately for you, BHVR will continue to butcher this killer. I guess the few people that don't like him are more important than the people that do like him. Back when there were way more Hillbilly players, most people agreed that he was fun to go against (with the exception of insta saw) as well. This has nothing to do with his currently abysmal pick rate. But here we are. A killer nobody complained about in that way, not even you as far as I can tell (didn't see any posts about it and doubt I would have missed that), is getting yet another nerf.

  • @Emeal said:

You sound like Im offended a Killer would hit me with their Power, but in reality those killers have nicely balanced power.

But none of these Killers slide off a car and gallops me down a Mach 2. That is the stuff that makes me want to go to bed.

Friend, this is a discussion about Billy. The guy with the chainsaw. Not the guy, that injects himself with whatever that is in his vial. Billy can't hug tech. He needs to curve around objects. Otherwise he'll suffer a 3 seconds stun. Billy is (for the most part) completely unable to slide off an object. There is, I believe, one exception left (that I won't name, sorry not sorry devs) but all other tiles have either hitboxes that are somewhat ok (these are very rare and far between) or absolutely unfair (invisible hitboxes, little twigs or things he can't see even with Shadowborn) or completely unmanageable with his power (certain trees and bushes come to mind).

Just do me a favor and play 1 game of Billy. By your own words it should be quite ease to hit these curves because you just 'slide off' of cars.

It sounds like you have no idea what to do against a Hillbilly so here is some advice: You can use hitboxes, mindgames and also his own lack of speed against him and just go ONE SINGLE STEP out of the way to make him miss. Damn, this is so bad you can even bodyblock some chainsaw sprints (though I wouldn't advice you to do so)!

You are one of the very few people that don't like Hillbilly. Otherwise we would see some more people complaining about him. I think this is more of a you problem than it is a Hillbilly problem.

  • Most people (by a huge margin) like Billy and agree that he needs buffs. You see countless people saying they like to go against this killer or at least don't mind but almost none say that they don't like him.

As 1 of their 5 poster children he really shouldn't be treated this bad. But for some reason the devs seem to hate him. He isn't even on the official DBD artwork anymore but is replaced by Hag. This is cruel.

Billy has been the reason I still play DBD for over a year now. This nerf, depending on how bad it will be, might actually get me to stop playing. Billys have been putting up with his rework (one of the biggest flops in this game's history), countless nerfs through maps, addon changes, shadow nerfs and even the removal of Skybilly. This might be the last straw for some of us.

Good work, BHVR. You might have done it. I hope you're proud.

Spirit, Plague, Wraith, Dredge, Nemesis, Sadako ,Demogorgon comes to mind.

With the exception of Spirit, these are all killers that require you to loop and mind game. Spirit is a bit different since you play more around her power than you play around loops. I had some trouble following you when you said that you "want to sleep" when a Billy is going for a curve. That is literally picture perfect material of mindgaming and looping, much like the other killers you stated. Demogorgon and Nemesis will also try to hit you with their power and that is best achieved by mindgaming and getting you out of position.

  • @Emeal said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3384653#Comment_3384653

The main point I disagree with is when you brought up the whole 'walk back and forth revving and then boom insta-down'. I don't think like this about that. Most people would be impressed or caught in shock from the Billy downing them in that way (I've literally seen a compilation of great Billy mains who did this against Twitch Streamers to see their reaction) and almost all of them were surprised, shocked, impressed, etc and none of them were salty or mad they just got downed.

That isn't going to make me find it impressive, shocking. mainly I feel a sense of wanting to sleep.

lucky Billys are dying out. vause If I had to endure that more often idd go harder on bHVR for it. its absolute bull.

May I ask, what are the killers you like to against? Because mindgaming and looping seem to be the opposite of what you enjoy as a survivor.

  • The perk nerfs are more or less fine. Though, if we're going to nerf perks this bad, wouldn't it be better to rework them instead? We don't need any more useless perks.

The healing changes are probably a bit overtuned. I'm not sure altruistic healing nerfs are a good idea but here we are.

The map reworks are going to be horrible. Everytime they touch an unbalanced map they somehow manage to make it even worse. Just look at what they did with Red Forest.

The killer changes are mostly negligable. Besides the Pig buff, which is nice and the Hillbilly nerf. This is the worst part of this whole patch, if you think about it. Because it once again shows how out of touch the devs are. They have no idea what they're doing. Absolutely none. Looking at numbers will not give you an idea of the actual situation. That is how money laundering works as well. Someone one the outside will look at the numbers and think "Well, this is fine.", while people on the inside will know exactly what's going on. There is 0 reason to nerf a killer that is already in shambles. Billy feels awful to play (that's why you don't see many Billys to begin with), is not all that strong and overall suffers from more things than any other killer. He doesn't have one or two problems but a million.

  • @Peanits said:

If you only buff weaker perks, you end up with power creep. Each perk needs to be better than the last in order to dethrone the meta, and so over time perks would become stronger and stronger. Eventually you'd reach a point where perks are ridiculously strong and have far too much impact on a match, making skillful play less important than the perks you brought.

Even beyond that, this simply is not feasible. There's 228 perks in the game. Even if we assume that 50 are in a really good spot (already meta in this case) and don't need any changes whatsoever, that's over 170 perk updates that need to be done just to balance things.

Instead, we do a bit of both. Most perks are already in a decent spot and see a good amount of use, but there's a few outliers that either don't get used enough or are used way too much. Bringing the top few down and some of the bottom few up is a lot more manageable. You pretty much answered yourself with your example. With Dead Hard being weaker, suddenly there's a lot more reason to bust out Lithe, Sprint Burst, or another exhaustion perk instead.

I agree in theory. Though, if you don't think about why some perks or addons for that matter are overused it's easy to miss when other things are so bad that they aren't really an alternative, which leads to players equipping things they know they can get value from even when they're not all that strong to begin with.

Much like what I assume happened with Billy. The Engravings are used more than anything else because they are fun and you literally don't have any alternative (besides Lo-Pros, which are kind of a crutch). No, I do not consider my TR shrinking by 8 metres but only when overheated (Big Buckle) an alternative to 2 addons that actually give me something useful in nearly every chase. Something I'd actually need.

  • For so long we've heard that killers had to know when to leave a chase instead of overcommitting. Now you are literally complaining about killers no longer getting punished for leaving a chase. What exactly is it that killers are supposed to do?!

  • I'm not sure how significant this change will be. Depending on how long it takes for a survivor to even remove one trap this might be a slight buff. I'm not a Hag main, so take this with a grain of salt but I don't think this will be a horrible nerf.

Protection hits happen whenever you take a hit for an injured survivor. It still doesn't encourage you to tunnel, but it doesn't incentivize you TO tunnel like the current DH does.

If that happened all that often MoM would be one of the best perks in the game.

A more healthy option would be to activate DH when taking a protection hit but giving the survivor you took the hit for benefit of your exhaustion. That would make it a decent but sitational anti-tunnel perk.

  • DH needed a nerf or a rework. This nerf doesn't kill the perk. Instead it makes the perk unhealthy for the reasons you stated above. Not a great plan. I can only hope nobody will run it anymore so this becomes insignificant. A rework would have been the better option but here we are. Though, if it activated upon taking a protection hit wouldn't this incentivise tunneling as well? Protection hits only happen when a killer is already tunneling. If DH activated on a survivor that took a protection hit I would still go after the other (from a logical perspective).

Pain Res, CoB and Overcharge are all getting killed. Jolt will be the new king of regression perks. Wow. That hits hard. Though, as I understand it Pain Res will only work for each individual survivor's first hook stage. So it doens't really reward tunneling. Camping, yeah because an exchange will still trigger it but tunneling? No.

  • I do not think DH is useless with this nerf. It got another condition to activate it, making it much less annoying to deal with and considering how long this perk has defined DBD's meta I think this is fair. Possibly not even enough. We'll see how it works out in a few months. I hope it's not gonna be a repeat of the 6.1.0 phenomenon where people switched back to DH after 2 weeks.

The regression perks have probable gotten the hardest nerfs in this game's history. Pain Res, CoB and Overcharge are all pretty much useless with these nerfs. 60% regression at max is nothing and does not warrant a perk slot. CoB gives 25% extra regression setting it at 0.3125 c/s. Combined with Overcharge the maximum possible gen regression will be 0.40625 c/s. This is 162.5% of the normal 0.25 c/s regression speed. Old Ruin gave 200% and it was 1 perk slot (2 with Undying). So, yeah... Seems like after this patch Jolt will be the strongest regression perk. Never thought I'd see the day.

I agree 100% on the healing part. Self-healing was an issue they needed to deal with. Altruistic healing however was not really a problem.

CoH seems to work just as intended finally. Survivors will actively need to think about when and where to set up a boon to get value out of it, instead of just placing it wherever they find a totem. Overall a good nerf.

It's funny how all the killers they looked at in this update got buffs. With the exception of the Hillbilly, one of DBD's poster children and Clown. Instead they nerf Billy! BHVR, if you're not going to buff him, then just leave him the hell alone! Billy has suffered more than any other killer and now you're back with yet another nerf?! Even Billy's parents didn't treat him this bad! This killer is literally the reason I stood engaged in this game for more than 1 year now and depending on how bad this will be I'm going to quit. Guess I should have invested all this time (600 hours) on Blight or Nurse instead. No matter how much feedback we give them on a Hillbilly nerf, they will still go through with it. All I'm hoping for now is that these nerfs will be insignificant.

The Lightburn changes are a bit weird imo. I would understand, if they did it for Wraith since he isn't all that strong to begin with, but everything else was a pretty cool interaction in my opinion. Well, at least they didn't buff Nur - Wait a second! Why are we buffing Nurse?!

  • @Trollinmon said:

It was a slap on the wrist for a nerf. People said the same thing about the other DH change except this time DH isn't head and shoulders above the other exhaustion perks. All the change really seems to do is make DH not do anything early game. Perk should be either number 2 or 3 for power. Certainly is still worth running but will not be the top exhaustion next patch.

Can't wait for the 6.1.0 phenomenon to repeat where no one will run DH for 2 weeks before it becomes the most used perk again. I hope BHVR are ready to nerf it again, if necessary.

  • Incredible how the devs managed to get almost everyone here to agree on something. Billy didn't deserve this. I have very little hope that they'll actually listen to us but at least they get enough feedback to know we're not happy. The overheat change won't do much for experienced players and probably make Billy even harder for beginners who have rely on his map mobility above all else.

The changes to his Engravings are going against what they did in patch 5.3.0 (Billy's last buffs, only nerfs since then), where they removed the extra overheat from his Engracings. To top it off they are even nerfing the speed! There are some speed addons in DBD that are problematic. But it's not Billy's Engravings! Why would you limit this killer even further?

Billy is one of DBD's poster children. Yet he gets nerf over nerf over nerf. First, they removed the ability to hit someone at the end of a chainsaw sprint, then he got reworked and his addons killed, his FOV got significantly worse, Skybilly was removed, maps are created without him in mind and then invisible hitboxes added to prevent him from jumping over obstacles and now this. How can they be so cruel?

Someone at BHVR really hates Billy it seems.

  • I think the DH nerfs are justified. It's about time it got removed from the meta. If it still remains the most used perk then I hope they'll nerf it again. This is a pretty harsh nerf but it's nowhere near as bad as what they did to CoB for example as it can still give you value.

Pain Res is hit pretty hard. I don't see why anyone would run it now. It will be weaker than Pop, Jolt and even Ruin in my opinion. Overcharge and CoB are pretty much useless with these nerfs and while I can't say I'll miss them, wouldn't it be better to rework them instead? We don't need more useless perks.

The healing changes are a picture perfect example of 'balance by sledge hammer'. Healing definitely needed a nerf but all of this combined is probably too much. I'm all for nerfing self-healing but altruistic healing didn't deserve to be hit this hard imo.

The killer changes are mostly meh. With the exception of Billy, who once again got beaten down by the devs. The overheat change is redundant (since it didn't really affect good players anyway) and punishes newer players, who rely on his mobility. If it really is a 'non-factor', then why not remove it? The worst part is the nerf to his Engravings. The last buffs the Hillbilly got were all the way back in patch 5.3.0. That was one and a half years ago and this buff was to his Engravings. They removed the extra overheat from Engravings by reducing the overheat while charging with them. Now they're going back on that change and on top of that nerf the speed! With all the nerfs he got since then and all the new maps with invisible hitboxes that were put there to stop Billy from jumping over tiles this just adds insult to injury. Someone at BHVR wants this killer dead. I have no other explanation for this. Maybe it's because they have Bubba and don't want people to play Billy instead of buying the dlc. At least poor Blight didn't get nerfed. Imagine nerfing some actual problematic addons.

Yeah except the problem is that after the last overheat changes they did it become irrelevant. Rarely would it ever affect most Hillbilly players and whenever it did the overheat meter would go down fairly quickly. So the changes that they made here aren't even going to do anything besides making it more annoying to get around the map, and that's not even talking about the changes that will kill Hillbilly, the engraving addons.

No offense, but from your comments I can tell you either don't play Hillbilly or don't play him much, because if you're defending the nerf to his most important add-ons, then you don't understand the issue. You need to understand that the engraving addons are borderline necessary for good Hillbilly players because the speed difference will always mean the difference between being able to just barely pull off a curve on a loop and scoring a hit or missing the survivor. And for a Killer who gets gimped hard on most loops nowadays, every curve can mean the difference between winning a game and losing. So now that he's had his most crucial add-ons nerfed, what's left for him? Genuine question. Excluding the gravings all of his brown add-ons suck, the only good yellow he has is Dad's boots, all of his green add-ons are extremely gimmicky and rely on bringing perks for them (like how mothers helpers needs enduring to work effectively), his purple add-ons suck ass except for lopro which isn't even that strong and spiked boots which are a huge risk, and then his iridescent suck ass and even when combined are still really gimmicky.

So after all that he only has....3 add-ons which aren't even amazing, just decent. So what was the point of these changes? They just drove off any remaining Hillbilly mains whilst also attempting to bring in new players by making the overheat less punishing ignoring the fact that he is the most punishing Killer to learn, meaning that even after these changes no new player will pick him up, and even if they do once they get better with him and start facing stronger survivors they'll realize that he doesn't have the tools to deal with them effectively. Seriously answer me this, why would anyone want to play Hillbilly after these changes and not play Leatherface or Blight who are by far much better Killers than him? Who will want to play a Killer who is both extremely punishing to learn and won't have the tools to deal with good survivors?

Literally, 99% of the community from what I've seen agrees with me on this issue, you are the one outlier on this issue. In feedback and suggestions, there is a 4500-hour Hillbilly main talking about how bad these changes are, and many, many more doing the same. How are you going to tell me these changes are good for him despite people who are dedicated to this Killer saying otherwise? When huge content creators with thousands of hours in DBD are also saying the same thing?

Exactly. The overheat changes I don't even really consider a buff because an experienced player didn't overheat anyway. His 2 most crucial addons get nerfed. It really seems like they want to finish what they started in 2020.

The funny part is that no matter how hard they nerf these addons, they will still remain the most used. Because everything else he has is so much worse.

It's cruel how they can treat one of DBD's poster children like this. Nurse is the strongest killer in the game. Wraith got buffs over buffs as well as Trapper (besides maps) and Huntress is in a pretty good spot. But Hillbilly gets beaten down with every new map and every change they've done for 4 years.

They have been moving further and further away from what makes this game fun for a while. All because of power creep. Each side has been getting more and more efficient tools with which to complete their objectives, which reduces the number of viable counters the other side has.

The main dichotomy is healing vs gen regression. These are two sides of the same coin, as they're both rolling back your opponents partial progress.

The more effective healing is, the less effective pressuring survivors are, the less effective chases are, the more relative effectiveness of camping and tunnelling. For example, Circle of Healing single-handedly deleted hit-and-run playstyles, and turned Inner Strength from an A-tier healing perk into an F-tier healing perk through relative power creep. This forces killers to bypass the opportunity to heal by tunnelling, or even camping, as this doesn't give survivors the chance to heal.

The more effective gen regression is, the less effective it is to not focus on the main objective entirely, and the more effective it becomes to gen rush. Killers have been getting more and more efficient gen regression tools, like trading Pop for Eruption or Call of Brine, which were much easier to use for greater effect. This forces survivors to rush gens, because if they leave a partially completed gen, all of their progress could be lost.

Both of these need to be nerfed, to bring the relative power levels of each side and their most effective meta tools down closer to the base level. Because if running CoH is so much more effective than not running CoH, it becomes necessary, and inversely, tunnelling becomes necessary, and if you don't bring CoH, you get obliterated when the killer tunnels. If running CoB is so much more effective than not running CoB, it becomes necessary, and inversely, gen rushing becomes necessary, and if you don't bring CoB, you get obliterated by gen rushing.

These changes ARE taking us back to a more balanced playing field, that's more similar to what the game was before everything got out of control. With less efficient healing, chasing and pressuring survivors directly becomes more worthwhile for killers, and with less efficient gen regression, the urgency with which to complete a gen before a killer can interrupt you is decreased. Killers won't need to tunnel because the injured survivor is still working in your favour, and survivors don't need to gen rush, because the partially completed gen isn't a lost cause.

All that said, I mostly agree with the OP. These changes are all good in principle, but the healing nerfs, particularly Altruistic, may be a bit too much, as these have a compound effect, particularly with perks like Sloppy, Coulrophobia, and Self Care. 20 second base heals would probably be more balanced, with slight nerfs to Sloppy and Coulrophobia. Jolt is my favourite regression perk, so no complaints there, but slight trepidation it could be next on the nerf block, which might not be terrible, but would affect me more than the current nerfs. And the Billy changes defy all logic.

Agreed. You said it better than I ever could. Although, I'm not yet sure how the new balance will look like. I expect at least some extremes that will need to be dealt with.

Why does otz opinion matter more than most? He is a fogwhisperer. He actually job for behavior is keeping the game healthy, half of his recommendations have gone into the game already? That's why he is not just some streamer. If anything your just some guy on a forum.

"He is the King, so he must be right" Biggest elitism energy here mate, that is all I can say.

you shown with evidence you simply dismiss it

You mean when Im shows non credible evidence. Some Youtuber isnt a good enough sample size.

when people give valid reasons for why billy does not deserve this nerf you either default to the addons are overperforming without even consulting why that is the case( not seeing the big picture)

I am yet to see a valid reason besides hearsay about those two addons, I even addressed that in my response. But I dont think bHVR even wants it that way. Addons being essential to usage of a Killer is just a bad idea.

or simply ignore it in your response. You cherry pick what you want to argue against and your ego simply ignores the rest.

If there is something you want me to address, simply @ my name and say "I want you to address ... "

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3382517#Comment_3382517

From the looks of it, it seems like they only judge add-on usage and performance relative to that killer's other add-ons. So if a killer only has a handful of add-ons that do anything, of course they'll be picked more than the rest of that killer's add-ons, and look like they're overperforming. This is the case with Billy.

You cant really have an addon be that essential. Ill bet you half a camel that isnt the intention or public policy I think bHVR is fully aware that most people dislike Hillbilly's addons, if not then they can survey for that information (which maybe they should) but keeping an overperforming addon in the game, just because you guys feel its the only addons you got is not gonna fly I think.

Nearly half of Blight's add-ons are ridiculously strong, so it makes sense that there is more variety in add-on usage rates, but it's possible the skill required to play Blight depresses their performance stats.

Now I have seen whataboutism on this forum, and ofc some systems are related. But Blight is 100% not related to Billy, and yet he has been brought up again and again. Some other killer's addons not being touched isn't an argument for not touching a completely different killer. I really don't know why you guys try that. Blight will get his nerfs for sure, bHVR isn't a hypocrite for washing the floor when the hedge needs trimming too. Those are unrelated.

They're obviously balancing based off of stats that look like outliers without asking why they're outliers, or in the case of Blight, why certain add-ons aren't outliers despite being oppressively strong after a player reaches a certain skill level.

If those addons are outliers in every billy build that overperforms, they still need to be toned down. I dont see how saying "they didnt ask why" is even a good reason, first of all you assume they dont know how those addons work and second it disregards the question if its intended for those two addons to be essential. which I dont think is a train bHVR is running on.

Idd like for you to adress if you think those two addons are intended to be essential high mmr enabler addons.

This is why I and so many others refuse to give BHVR the benefit of the doubt; not only do they not release the data, they don't bother explaining why the change is necessary, especially after Engravings have essentially done the exact same thing for 7 years. But now they're suddenly too strong? That just reeks of incompetence.

Oof thats is rough Sailor. But I actually think the engravings have just risen since the last rework, slowly becoming part of overperforming billys again and again. idk how that is incompetency. Seems like a timely reaction to me.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3382548#Comment_3382548

BHVR don't nerf overperforming addons. They never did. Instead they nerf addons with high pick rates. Also let's not pretend that Engravings are overperforming. They aren't. Because Billy isn't overperforming. If they were really after overperforming addons Blight would have gotten nerfed a long time ago.

I don't see how you can demonstrate that bHVR does not nerf overperforming addons without access to the stats which you don't have. So how exactly do you know this besides your opinion? Also you might wanna look above about that Blight argument too.

BHVR are either trying to end what they started nearly 3 years ago (killing Billy for whatever reason) or they once again do random stuff that no one asked for. Have you ever heard someone call for a nerf to Billy's Engravings? Because I haven't.

Someone being mad about an addon is not required for bHVR to nerf it, like can you imagine. "Sorry, we cant nerf something because we have not received a complaint." Like come on. There is no way in Hell bHVR operates like this.

You are right that Hillbilly is overdue for some changes and I think most people agree with that.

This is why I advocate for a full Billy Rework, I think bHVR is just doing some routine maintenance on a Killer that really out to get a rework. But really they are not working hard on it, they just tweak a numbers that are overdue. I think if Billy needs some changes, but that requires an entirely diffrent campaign and as we seen in this thread. People dont want him reworked in case they lose the last 7 years of their life.

You're telling us you spoke to a former designer at BHVR? How is anyone supposed to believe that? Until you can back up that claim everyone will just take it as made up, no offense.

Yeah, its just an tidbit. This is why I believe it, I don't expect you to take that reason as justified.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3382592#Comment_3382592

Addons can also be OP without overperforming compared to the rest.

OP in a certain situation are SITUATIONAL then, not OP. Even so if that was true, that means those situations happen far too often and that would still justify them being toned down. There is no way bHVR is gonna rework all maps just for one Killer to make sure those situations dont happen as much.

The "hard gameplay" we love is curving, and without these addons the survivor needs to make significant mistakes to get curved. So if we nerf the good curving addons, we wont curve nearly as much. Which is sad, because most billys and most survivors like curves.

I don't think sliding around a Car like it has butter or soap on it is what bHVR was going for. Neither with Blight. I have never had a Billy do that to me and felt, wow great design, really fair and balanced. I don't recall seeing bHVR putting out a statement on that. if you can find me one Ill accept it.

About the people and polls that are not official, I really think you ought to do a really big poll to figure that out, but I don't think bHVR will release the polling.

Why do you think he needs a rework and not a Buff?

    1. Clunky and unwieldy to play.
    2. Terrible addons.
    3. Curving (which I don't think is intentional.)

it would be easier to address all this in a new Power, rather than repurpose the repurposed Power from 2016.

Are you suggesting that Blight's addons are not overperforming?! I don't need to prove it to you. That should be obvious. If it's not to you, just tune in to a LillithOmen stream and you'll see exactly why Blight's addons are overperforming. No stats required. Besides, BHVR did never state that the Engravings were overperforming.

What most people want for Billy are flat out buffs. Buffs to his base kit. Buffs to some of his untertuned addons and a rework to his useless addons. Some small QoL changes don't outweigh this nerf, however. So, as long as they don't do more this is completely unjustified.

As long as BHVR don't show us any numbers, claiming that he is overperforming doesn't make any sense. I could also claim that I escape 100% of my matches as survivor without ever getting hit. How do you proof this is wrong? Obviously this is untrue but it's the same as with the Engravings' performance. Neither of us has anything to base their claims on other than experience and opinions. And since there seem to be very, very, VERY few people that think these addons are overperforming and a lot that don't, I'd say you are the one that would need to prove anything.

  • Billy. He might as well be a survivor with the devs seemingly trying to kill him.

Jokes aside, I would love to see him carry a Feng Min to safety while in the chainsaw sprint.

  • That's hard to say. Some of his addons could maybe use some slight nerfs (the ones that spawn more blood orbs) but other than that I think he'll be mostly fine.

  • @Dddtp said:

From someone who plays both killer and survivor, this game seems geared more towards the killer.

You mean this patch. Over the last 9 months survivors have only received buffs. I don't see how the game would be "geared more towards the killer" when survivors only receive buffs while killers get nerfs (and a lot of them at that).

Both sides will be significantly weaker than before. I think the healing nerfs are a bit too heavy but everything about self-healing was necessary. OC and CoB as well as Pain Res are completely worthless, if this goes through. A rework would be the better option. The DH nerf was a long time coming and I hope they'll nerf it again, if it doesn't disappear from the meta now. There are other exhaustion perks. It doesn't have to be DH.

We'll see how it goes. This could change the game even more significant than 6.1.0, so I'm not sure if any of our predictions are anything more than that. Predictions.

yes? simply put would their be this much backlash? would said streamer and otz say this is a dumb decision? from what i can see no body has made a post saying this is a welcome change? nor videos or discussions. you are the only one for this change?

Well its funny isnt it, bHVR is the only ones who have the numbers that show that addon overperforming. So what does it mean when Otz or any streamer comes down to say its wrong, How do they know anything? They don't. So what makes their feedback more useful than others, than mine? It does not, its not even an argument, its a fallacy, argument from popularity.

I am willing to take bHVR's side, if the addons are overperforming then they should be nerfed even if I rather want the Killer Reworked. I have no reason to believe bHVR to be working maliciously here. Sorry if you find that strange.

finally if we talking about evidense here what besides your personal opinion is billy unfun to play against? or badily designed? give me that evidense

I like when I ask for evidence, you don't provide me some, you ask my for evidence of my opinion. That is Rich. Idk if it was not clear its my opinion. Like I don't claim every user thinks Hillbilly should be reworked. But some definitely claim like 90% of players have no issue with Hillbilly, only pleasant experiences.

You made a big response here and ill show you the time, which you show me. Now you don't use quotes here on the website so I'm unsure what each section is in response to.

The difficulty with billy directly comes from the movement speed. It's mechanical and mental difficulty from having to time everything right ON TOP of correctly guessing their actions.

This change doesn't make billy harder, just weaker. The interactive part of the power in chase is the high movement speed, high sensitivity window. Any slower directly hamstrings both the difficulty and strength. He won't have the ability to curve to the same capacity, and just have to use his saw for backrevving/zoning.

Sounds like more bad design to me, a set of addons should not be essential to his power on higher mmr. but to me, these points only show major issues with Hillbilly, which a rework could rectify. It does not really convince me to think that bHVR should let you keep an overperforming addon anyway. I talked to one of their former designers today, the guy who did those addons today, He says he knew they would come for those addons eventually.

Now if I understand that correctly and you believe those addons have that purpose, then perhaps those addons should be reworked into the Killer's basekit=? Then you have your own rework idea. But I am unsure how you can convince people of this because to anyone looking in, it just looks like everyone who plays billy at high mmr uses those addons cause they are best. You would have a good argument if this will cause a significant drop in Billy's Kill rate. But I would think bHVR could call that bluff because I know they can see the Killrate with/without those addons. I do get you I think, but its hard to confirm.

About the whole Hard part honestly you kind of just replied to a quip rather than my point on overperforming addons. Not really sure we will get anywhere discussing what is hard and what is not, pretty useless to talk about something so subjective. Weak or mechanical difficult makes it hard in like every dictionary. I do get you want a mechanically difficult Killer here.

I am also glad you agree Billy could use some changes, at least we agree on something now.

And the evidence for the last point you mentioned will never be enough, you're clearly discrediting that purely off of what you see as ego. You're not looking to have a conversation. And that's fine if you don't like me because you think my word may have some inherent bias, but let's refocus on the main point, alright? The mention of me streaming has zero relevance to any point in your eyes, but that's no reason to make snide comments. It shows nothing but bad faith.

No literally, if we could make bHVR put in a part in the next Survey that asks what is your favorite Killer to go again and if Hillbilly shows up as significantly well liked Killer to vs then I literally have to eat my words. Its rather rude you think me that dishonest.

I have no problem with you, only the arguments you have chosen to bring into this thread. That is why I quipped it.

Now weather you think Im bad faith or not means not much to me, but I do think im atleast responding directly to your replies and that isnt exactly how bad faith works mate. Maybe its an elaborate smokescreen or maybe Im here because the subject is just interesting to me.

You forgot something.

BHVR are either trying to end what they started nearly 3 years ago (killing Billy for whatever reason) or they once again do random stuff that no one asked for. Have you ever heard someone call for a nerf to Billy's Engravings? Because I haven't.

You are right that Hillbilly is overdue for some changes and I think most people agree with that. But all of these changes are BUFFS. No nerfs. This killer is already in a bad spot. He is way too hard for what payoff he offers (though it's already the highest possible payoff). If any of us invested the time we have on Billy on Blight, Oni or Nurse instead we would perform way better. Have you seen how Billy players perform on the new maps? Just take GoJ or Eyrie as an example. Both are horrible for Billy. The collisions and loop geometry make him feel clunky beyond reason. Most of us would be completely fine, if they nerfed the Engravings but compensated that by adding a bit more base speed. They aren't doing that though. Instead they flat out nerf him. They never stated that he was overperforming either. They just added that as if it was some minor change no one would care about.

You're telling us you spoke to a former designer at BHVR? How is anyone supposed to believe that? Until you can back up that claim everyone will just take it as made up, no offense.

The funny part about this is that no matter how much they nerf these addons, they will still remain the ones with the highest pick rates. Because his other addons are worthless. Literally. You have an addon that reduces your bump time by so little, that it doesn't make any difference, a meme addon that nerfs him, the Junkyard Airfilter that increases his overheat limit by 20% (I don't need this!) an addon that reduces his chainsaw noises by 30% (#########?), an addon that reduces his TR by 8 metres but only when overheated (Again #########?), Mother's Helpers, Leafy Mash and Black Grease are all way too gimmicky to ever be useful, the Low Kickback Chains which reduce the bumping time but don't help him otherwise (QoL as an addon, great), Tuned Carburretor which is too situational and comes with a heavy downside, Pighouse Gloves which will only give you value in a specific build on specific maps in a specific play style that would still be worse than playing normally without addons and his iri addons which could be combined to 1 addon and would still be mostly gimmicky.

  • @VoidOfMe said:

You know what I don't get? No one plays Billy and people are shocked and baffled about these addon's nerfs.

    Why?

Do YOU play Billy? Or do you know someone who does and the person got mad and you're complaining on their behalf?

I really don't get the commotion. We'll still be facing the same killers, the 4 billy mains are still gonna play him and it's not like Billy is the most fun killer to face, right?

BTW: About the nerf healing thing, we'll have to wait and see how it works on gameplay, I'm sure if it doesn't work they'll revert it back, so I'm not stressed about it.

Even the people that don't play Hillbilly know how hard that hits. The difference between Engravings and no Engravings is night and day. Without them a lot of plays you could pull off will just not work because he is way too slow. Curve Billy takes hundreds of hours to even develop a feeling for and thousands of hours to get good (I've been playing him for 600 hours and I'm still bumping a lot).

It overall shows that BHVR have no idea why certain addons are used. Double Engravings might have some of the highest killer specific addon pick rates. But that's because his other addons (with the exception of Punctured Muffler and Lo-Pros) straight up suck! They are horrible! So instead they nerf Engravings thinking that this will make people run other addons. The funny part is that no matter how hard they nerf them, the other addons will still be worse because you can't get any value out of them. Engravings get nerfed because they are picked too often while Blights addons are fine because most of them have a decent pick rate.

They committed unspeakable things (countless nerfs and shadow nerfs) against poor Billy. And instead of helping him by paying his medical bills (QoL improvements) they come to his hospital room with pain killers (overheat changes) and a sledge hammer (Engravings nerfs) to end what they began nearly 3 years ago.

But I agree that all the healing nerfs combined might be too much. Self-healing getting nerfed is a good thing and everything in that regard is fine by me. However, altruistic healing was never a problem. I don't get why they're touching that. It just shows that once again they have no idea what the actual issue is.

-Time your lunge to hit at the end of the DH, since they can't drop the pallet until DH is over.

-Lunge while looking up, so that you don't hit the DH, and likely end up blocking the prompt for them.

    - Don't lunge, follow them through the DH and then M1 them to take advantage of the lingering hitbox. You'll probably hit them and get the pallet out of the way at the same time.

Hope this helps. DH is incredibly easy to counter.

Thank you for the advice. How did no killer every come up with that? I guess we're all just way too entitled to consider something like this. Not.

    1) Good luck timing your lunge so that you can hit the survivor in the 0.1s (maybe less) window of time between DH and the pallet throw. This depends on distance as well as hitboxes and survivor animations. You will never be able to guess that reliable. It's impossible.

    2) Your idea is to lunge while looking up, so that the killer can shorten the distance. But without hitting the survivor you're still gonna get stunned by the pallet. This puts you in a lose-lose-situation again. You cannot lunge around the survivor and block the pallet. Not without Coup de Grace. And even then you'd probably fail.

    3) Ok. So I don't go for a lunge but instead walk behind them under the pallet and get stunned again. Great advice. Even if I could react the end of the DH right as it happened I couldn't hit the survivor before they stun me. Because the stun comes before the hit. The only possible way this could work out is by latency. And if I have to rely on latency, then there is something really messed up here.

Every decent killer knows how to counter DH. The problem is that it doesn't work. In theory that is so easy. Just like Blight, Nurse, Billy and Oni are easy in theory. Just connect point A to point B and hit. Easy. In practise however this is way harder than you'd think.

  • There are a lot of good things in this update but also a lot of bad things. The regression perks are basically useless now. Healing was nerfed too hard imo. I think removing the lightburn thing from Wraith would be ok but other than that I think it was fine before.

The worst part is the Hillbilly changes. How much can you actually hate a killer? Billy has gone through enough already. He doesn't need any nerfs. None! What he needs is QoL improvements but that isn't a priority as it seems.

  • I am all for nerfing medkits but everything combined is just too much.

    • CoH - Nice, I think the perk is still decent but now requires actual thinking about where to set it up and when to set it up.
    • Medkits nerfed so that you cannot heal more than twice. Fine by me. Good change overall.
    • An increase in base healing time. That hits hard. Like, really hard. I'm not happy about that. I think this is too much. Self-healing speed was the problematic thing, other than that healing speed was fine.
    • A nerf to altruistic healing with medkits. This is the exact opposite of what they should have done with all these other changes. If anything, buffing altruistic healing speeds with medkits would make sense to compensate for the other changes. At least slightly.

Nerfing medkits is not a bad idea but butchering them goes a bit too far imo.

    What did it cost?

Pain Resonance, Call of Brine, and Overcharge.

    Worth it.

    Well, maybe not. Idk.
