It was probably me praising it. 🤣

I did a pretty massive write up on it once.

It’s been given an unfairly bad rap. It behaves so differently than Surveillance and Discordance that it’s foolish to actually compare Gearhead to those other 2 perks.

Actually now that i think about it I think it was you yea LOL.

Agree, it does it's job far differently to that of other gen info perks and it seems alot of ppl go: is this better than thrilling or bbq? If not it's garbage.

    M1 killers don't need gearhead c mon.

M1 killers against looping simulator genrush survivors does ABSOLUTELY nothing.

Just you get rekt while you have equipped......GEARHEAD. RIP.

Who's getting "rekt" everygame playing m1 killers? I'm certainly not.

"the survivors" with 4 keys one survivor needs to be in a decent position to use it, everything carries everybody keys and moris are just at the front

Survivors have to do most if not all of the gens still, they need to find the hatch and they need to asemble everyone to the hatch without the killer noticing as they will just close it, all whilst the killer is chasing and hooking survivors.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

The problem with a perk like Gearhead is that it's conditional on a very crappy bit of RNG. While I was doing those "great skill checks" challenges, I noticed that a lot of times I'd repair an entire generator, get one or two skill checks, and then for the rest of the generator... nothing. The skill checks just stopped coming. Two skill checks for repairing an entire generator.

Have I mentioned lately how much the RNG in this game can freaking suck sometimes?

    @MythMage said:

The thing is, Gearhead is not only conditional as all hell, but also RNG based, because it relies on skillchecks. Not JUST skillchecks, but also hitting specifically good skill checks. Furthermore, it's hard know what exactly it's telling you, which makes the info itself very inconsistent.

It's not underrated. Just really, really, bad

I agree the rng part about it is a but frustrating. Although more often than not you will get a few skill checks in the span of 30 seconds and chances are you aren't going to hit all of them as greats. It would be nice if the perk included great skillchecks though, I don't see why it doesn't.

  • Agreed people have been calling for more balancing around swf so now that they are getting their wish, solo is being left in the dark as usual.

My advice? Don't play solo unless you're doing it solely to get better or for the chases.

single mori vs single key mori is worse

except for the fact that you can have 4 keys and find them midgame, but in scenarios like that moris are worse

4 keys is hardly better than one key.

Like others have said, gens still need to be done and the survivors need to be in a decent position to be able to use it. Keys don't carry people like moris did, they just allow people to dip towards the end of a game instead of playing it out.

  • There are over 40 killers and survviors in the roster now, statistically some will get left out if they aren't releasing cosmetics every couple of days.

  • I believe almost any killer is underestimated when you chuck a good player to play one of them, especially people who main killers know how to use them well.

Although if I have to say, doc is very underated for me, his antiloop is insanely strong, his terror radious is very misleading, his addons are strong and the ability to find people and chuck them into madness three adds HUGE amounts of pressure.

  • @Sonzaishinai said:

It is better then people think but the fact that you can trigger it and not get a single generator revealed cause the one skillcheck within the short time frame was a great really makes it inconsistant.

And with the basic attack requirement it really depends on killers too. Some killers just don't basic attack often enough for it to be worth it.

That is true, I wish they got rid of the basic attack requirement along with surge, might be quite a popular perk then.

  • @Demogordon_Ramsay said:

Gearhead doesn't last long at all, is reliant on Survivor luck, can be countered by Survivors who are good with skill checks, and is much less useful on Killers who are special attack-reliant in a chase.

Surveillance works when you want it, where you want it, and synergizes excellently with all gen regression Perks, especially Ruin, Surge, and Oppression.

I feel that's the tradeoff though for a perk which is far easier to activate and use consistently than others.

  • @Warcrafter4 said:

Its an Mindbogglingly strict conditional perk:

    1. It has a get 2 hits
    2. With a basic attack
    3. Then while within 20-30 seconds
    4. A SURVIVOR must get(Condition as it requires the enemy team to complete)
    5. A skill check which is random.
    6. The skill check must be a good skill check.(Great skill checks don't trigger it)
    7. On a generator.
    8. While that generator is still being actively repaired

This has 3 conditions to allow its other 5 conditions to even be considered and one of which IS RANDOM.

This is one of the single most restrictive perks in the game

None of these conditions require you to go out of your way or play the game differently though unless your not playing an m1 killer, which same can be said for surge.

Even pop requires you to go out of ur way to kick gens.

  • @Demogordon_Ramsay said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/213100/gearhead-is-massively-underated

Yeah but why justify any of that when you can just, you know, run Surveillance?

Surveillance requires you to actually kick gens which can waste huge amounts of time in some situations. Gearhead just activates as your playing the game and hitting people.

Surveillance also doesn't tell you when they get off the gen.

  • Agreed, people complain about swf's but immersed survivors are far worse and uninteractive.

  • She has counterplay until you get zoned. Basically if you're in a good spot, she has plenty of counterplay. If ur stuck in a corner or you get pushed into a corner, ur screwed. I wouldn't mind them reworking maps so you can't get zoned into dead areas as much but oh well.

This man just made a post talking about how swf is busted (which it is) and you telling him to stop whining lol can't wait until someone says ruin undying op so I can say stop whining

They aren't comparable. One you vs almost never and still can be countered 80% of the time, the other is seen in every second game and destroys playstyles.

  • Here we go again

Quit whinging about the good swf which you vs maybe once in 20 games at most because they are better than you and it isn't a stomp fest like it would be against solo players.

  • I would like to see more survivor perk buffs ngl, the survivor meta is kinda stale at the moment because perks that aren't bt, ds etc are generally just awful.

    @Chilli_man2400 said:

There going to buff blood echo, gearhead, fixated in the next patch probably.

Camping is an entirely different issue. Sometimes it’s simply a scummy thing to do. Sometimes it’s the right thing to do. If I’ve had 2 or 3 immediate unhooks within about 5 seconds of hooking someone, I’ll camp the next hook because it’s abundantly clear I don’t need to waste time looking for other survivors if they’re already there.

Right, but what if you slugged someone near a hook and used that to justify a proxy on the hook/slug. Is that scummy?

  • No point complaining it's going to be heavily nerfed like Ormond was most likely, along with haddonfield and mothers dwelling.

  • I think base regression is fine as it is. I mean look back in the day you weren't even able to regress gens at all! Now you've got perks which do it for you.

If you kick a gen, go chase the survivor who was on it, down them, hook them, they heal up and then they go back to the gen, by then the gen woulda regressed way over 25%, pushing 50%.

Another problem is it would be a hard nerf to solo q but wouldn't do much to swfs who would make sure no gen stays regressed.

  • Solo just isn't worth it these days unless you're coming in with a mentality of "I'm going to loose but it doesn't matter."

Whilst killers complain about swf and the game gets balanced around it, solo is left in the dark to pretty much crumble.

Also doesn't help when you've got a ruin undying killer in a solo match, those games make me wanna just killmyself on first hook.

  • Hm nah I'm very happy with where sabo is at currently. KIllers can bypass it by reacting intime and taking survivors to different hooks but at the same time it's useable in both solo q and swf. Also doesn't take the whole game to set up like old sabo did. They've designed it very cleverly and I think it's actually a good change to something many ppl always thought would be unbalanced.

Old sabo was useless unless you were in a stacked swf so I imagine if they add it back, you'll see no-one using it exept for sabo swfs, which ngl gets boring after a game or two.

  • BBQ only blight, try it it's alot of fun.

Also how I play blight :)

  • Banning people for camping and tunneling would just be daft ngl.

There should be punishments for camping, a sort of tradeoff maybe in a way, because currently it's the go-to tactic when you're loosing a game or want an easy win.

  • Almost any killer if you've had practise with them.

Only killers who you would probably need addons or you're goign to have it pretty rough is wraith (movement speed addons), hag (range addons), billy (for engravings and cooldown so you can actually flick) and trapper (for sack).

  • @ThePolice said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1811964#Comment_1811964

So it’s objectivley worse than ruin? Plus it has a stupid long cool down,, it doesn’t take any effort to kick a gen btw

It takes effort to use it and time it right. You can't just kick a gen whenether and expect to get results from it. That's why I like it as opposed to ruin. Makes me think about how i'm using it rather than just chucking on ruin undying which allows me to not worry about gen regressions or anything. Literally makes me loose brain cells running it.

  • @bjorksnas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1813728#Comment_1813728

well there are plenty of survivors who chuck on keys 24/7 for no reason

keys are used as a way of bm, taunting the killer and exiting the game early is toxic. You see keys being used to bm the killer

Show me one game of someone using keys to bm.

Have you not noticed that toxic/good survivors don't run keys? Because they'd much rather enjoy tbagging and messing around with the killer than leaving the game early.

I can't remember the last time I saw a survivor chuck on a key that wasn't for a challenge. Almost everytime a survivor runs a key in one of my games, they tell me how bad they feel in endgame and that it was for a challenge. I don't see nearly as many killers saying "sorry for the mori".

  • @onemind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1811964#Comment_1811964

You hold 1 button and it triggers every 80s ruin you have 2 juggle 3 or all survivors while getting hooks and hoping they dont find your totem but oppression is better

Why would you not have to juggle two or three surviovrs when not using ruin? And you don't need to hope no-one finds ur totem when you have undying, the odds of a team even good ones popping all the totems before you've snowballed is very very low.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1813705#Comment_1813705

And sometimes I don’t need to see or hear evidence of another survivor nearby.

If I remember there was someone in the lobby with a Flashlight, and that isn’t whoever who was hooked or slugged, you’re damn right I’m leaving someone slugged to go look around for them nearby because those sorts of survivors are stupidly predictable.

That's totally understandable when someone with a flashlight is nearby and you go and chase them, but say you smack the flashlight survivor and then you come back to the hook and then wait until the hooked person either second stages or dies, that's just scummy.

Once again it's situational, taking advantage of an opportunity to force someone out of the game by camping or proxying is not skillful.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1813705#Comment_1813705

If there was clear evidence that a third or fourth survivor was in the area, yeah, what’s the problem?

The killers goal is to chase, down, and eventually hook survivors. If the killer has no need to leave the area because the survivors have already come to the area, then the killer is stupid for not leaving that slug on the ground and searching the immediate area for those other survivors.

Once again it's situational. If it's endgame or ur in a terrible position sometimes making those plays and find a third or fourth survivor is the thing to do. When people do it at 5 gens and force the hooked person into second stage, it's literally just an excuse to soft camp. Not mentioning names but there are a few streamers who do this and claim it's "tactical". No, it's just finding an excuse to force someone out of the game.

At the end of the game, the entity is pleased by hooks, not if you can 4man slug everyone at 5 gens.

and are you forgetting that 90% of killers do the same, I have probably a 3% kill rate with moris / devour hope out of all my total survivors killed

Well there were plenty of killers who woud chuck on moris whenever they saw survivors with half a brain.

Moris were also used as a way of bm, to tunnel and kill people the killer may not like or to be toxic. You don't see keys being used to bm the killer.

  • @MichaelAMyers said:

Survivors=Multiple ways to Rush their Gens both Add-Ons/Tools/Perks

Killers=Perks only (plague is good at Anti-Gen but can still be stopped.)

Because survivor supplies outnumber those of killer......

Survivors have two perks, prove thyself and resilience, which affect gen speeds.

Killers have pop, corrupt, surge, thrilling, dying light, thana, ruin, overcharge, huntress's lullaby, opression,

Then there are others that don't directly affect gen speeds or apply regression but still help to prevent gens from popping by providing info such as tinkerer, bbq, trail of torment, discordance

THEN almost every killer power applies a slowdown in some form of another. Stealth killers make survivors wary, likely to jump of gens earlier and more inclined to heal. Oni makes survivors waste time healing. Pig has slowdown. Trapper, hag and demo make survivors go out of their way to locate and pop traps and portals. Nurse, spirit and blight down ppl at insane rates that it's hard to even find time to do gens against them. Doctor makes you mad, Legion makes you mend, Plague makes you one shot and need to cleanse, one shot killers significantly reduce chase times, deathsligner has a perpetial 18m threat range forcing you to be outside of it or out of his LoS.

Infact there's often slowdown going on in games which you woudn't even realise. Just because you can't see a gamechanging effect doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  • @MythMage said:

Slugging is not scummy or annoying. It's literally just an alternate hook. No idea how people get upset over it.

To OP, I completely agree. Slugging is kind of a necessity nowadays just because how much time you waste hooking people. Hell, Pop doesn't even buy you time. It literally just makes up for the amount of time you spent hooking someone in the first place. 25% of a gen is the same time it takes to hook someone and get to a gen. That is crazy, that is absolutely nuts.

People who say it's scummy or people who slug just want to play like ######### are delusional. Survivors cut corners to do gens, Killers cut corners to apply pressure. Literally no different than refusing to heal to slam out a gen.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1812388#Comment_1812388

And it sucks for Killers when they just want a chill match and chase some survivors, have a little fun, and 3 gens pop, game is halfway over, midway through the first chase. "DoN't BlAmE tHe DeVs FoR tHe ChOiCe YoU mAkE"

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1812394#Comment_1812394

Translation: I like games ending in 15 seconds after a 15 minute queue

Seriously, SLUGGING IS NOT SCUMMY! If it bothers you that much, bring Unbreakable+Soul Guard or just run No Mither. Slugging is a necessity in the game at the current moment. If I had my way, gens would take twice as long but slugging becomes 10x weaker.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1812390#Comment_1812390

...You do realize you can crawl away, right? Also, if 1 person is dying in ~4 minutes and the other is gonna die in ~2, someone is going to have to come get them. Only a moron leaves the hook in that situation.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1812416#Comment_1812416

If the Killer is obviously winning, the only time I would slug is if people are just unhooking, then hiding, getting caught, unhooking, hiding, etc. Like, I get it. Bloodpoints. But come on. The game is over. ~1000 BP isn't worth an extra 3 minutes of our time

So if you downed someone near a hooked survivor, you would slug them and then proxy until someone comes in the for save? Rather than just hooking the downed survivor and playing from there? What is this some sort of esports tournamnet where you have to force death on ppl?

  • @bjorksnas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1804199#Comment_1804199

keys are not a counterpart to moris but moris are a counterpart to keys, the reason you don't see keys 24/7 in lobbies is for a few reasons

    1. players are stockpiling
    2. players are scared there is going to be a mori for bringing a key
    3. people see someone else with a key and don't want to bring another to basically guarantee a mori

and now that 2 and 3 are compromised you bet your sweet bippy that keys are going to be more prevalent

Are you also forgetting that 90% of survivors also don't run keys because they know they are stupid and game breaking? I didn't see killers holding themselves back nearly as much when it came to moris.

  • More exhaustion nerfs? Are the previous ones not good enough because the perks are still useable?

Sure nerf exhaustion perks once you add a downside for using gen regression perks.

The only exhaustion perk nerf i'll ever consider is dh, the rest are fine as they not only are situational but need you to actively do something in a chase to proc them. Learn to play around them. If some has dh don't lunge, learn when they will dh through a pallet and expect you to lunge through so that you are able to just walk through and smack them. Proc sb's, go away and do somethign else and then come back. There are plenty of counters to exhaustion.

  • I feel like killers are just getting lazier and slackier every day, not all, but a fair few.

Back in the day when killers had to deal with all the bs of 2016, they complained no where near as much, they just got the job done. Now that changes have been made to make the game balanced, instead of embracing the changes and accepting that the game is far more balanced now, they want more. It's like someone who's greedy for more power. Many people are trying to tilt the scales.

It also doesn't help that many killers come in with the mentality of "I need a 4k or this game is unbalanced". You should be getting a 2k on average if balance means anything. (that is provided however you are vsing survivors of equivalent skill level, something matchmaking skews alot)

  • I'm fine with slugging one or two people in situations to gain pressure etc, the problem i have is when people start abusing slugging and get 4man slugs and slug someone near a hook in order to proxy the hooked survivor.

I think people need to be more clear about these two very different types of slugging, because one is tactical whilst the other is just downright scummy.

  • @Rebel_Raven said:

My problem is we don't know when the key adjustments are coming. It was supposed to be coming for years. It could be years again.

If they were coming in, say a month or less, it would probably have just been smarter to let them come together since the mori fix was so easy, so the wait is probably going to be even farther out which is not something to crow about.

If they were concerned with mori spam, they could have given super little warning, if any for both fixes.

Patches can't just happen with consoles from past experience, they have to go through a stricter application process. There's just a lot to prevent the level of optimism you have about keys being fixed on my end.

It doesn't help that the mori nerf comes while killers are being kicked in the ribs while they're down.

It's a huge betrayal, and it makes sense to me that people are angry about it.

Keeping everything in one thread means people are going to be drowned out, and quickly. Especially if they aren't on the last page, so they want to be heard. Makes sense to me.

How on earth are killers being kicked in the ribs atm? Killers have never been more supported and helped than they are now

  • Devs are survivor sided because they did something you didn't like is what i'm hearing....

Like others have said, key nerfs are going to be far more complicated and will require much more testing than just changing the amount of hooks needed before a mori.

Hmm,luckily i encountered different killers on console even though there were some days where you would see some more spirits and freddys.

I can definetely tell you that the only gamechanging difference between console and PC is FPS drops.

If you don't have a PS5/Xbox series x then you'll face FPS drops often times when somebody uses dead hard or sprint burst, you get hit with something like sloppy butcher/noed/freddy and whenever you get your first stack of bloodlust (this one is the absolute worst).

Frame drops could then look like this:

    https://youtu.be/W1TlMcbNT4s

Yea the frames are awful, even vsing console players on pc you see them spaz out and have the most delayed deadhards.

  • You can still physically hit them no matter how close they are, it's just a tactic which tricks most blights because it makes them panic.

  • How dare you put one of my favourite perks ,anymeans, in B tier

What makes you think that people play freddy more on console?

In my opinion the only killers that are a bit worse on console is Blight,Huntress (if you go for those long range shots) and Nurse (Turning speed still feels a tiny bit too slow at times).

    Other than that it's fine.

Except those damn FPS drops >:(

Many people I know have come over to PC from console because they are fed up with the freddy's.

I wouldn't know how hard all the killers are, I can imagine trying not to get spun and pathing to minimise distance would be harder, whether it's gamechanging I wouldn't know.

2 perks that can be rendered useless 30 seconds into the game vs 16 meta perks and comms

    which one is easy mode?

Because majority of games survivors just happen to find the two totems and pop them in the correct order...

At least you always get value out of ruin undying. DS unbreakable and bt all require the killer to be tunneling, slugging or camping. That's literalyl the point of those perks, to punish scummy plays. If you don't play like that as killer, you will run into these perks far far less, not saying you will never run into them, just the amount of damage they will actually do to you is far less than what ruin undying will do in an average game.

  • I understand that some of the recent killers might be harder on console, but they also can't balance for console without creating either really bland, boring or easy killers on pc. Why do you think alot more ppl on console play freddy?

  • "balanced around 75%". I'm sorry what????? The game is meant to be balanced around 50% not 75%. How does that not show you he's tremendously unbalanced?

Can you imagine a fighting game or a LoL character having a 75% win rate?

  • Because he puts the game on easy mode and some ppl can't be bothered learning the real game.

I find it funny when ruin undying swingy chain freddys get stomped by a 4man and proceed to complain about them for using meta perks and abusing coms, ngl one of my favourite things to see in this game atm.

1 … 11 12 13 14 15 … 26
